This paper attempts to describe how an ordinary city in Indonesia is evolving into more elaborate one leading to a sprawling megacity by the expansion of desakota. Desakota is a ‘becoming-city-space’ where transformation of rural to urban occurs marked by mingling characteristics of both urban and rural. By describing desakota located in northern part of Yogyakarta Indonesia as a case, this paper tries to unveil the some ‘formal units’ involve in the transformation process of a village into more mature-urbanised one by horizontal intensifi cation of space. This paper also argues that those units as a ‘genetic factor’ of urbanity, the village-ness which brings ‘spatial cohesiveness’ of the society remains a strong dynamic force in urban transformation. Nous proposons dans cet article d’explorer de quelle maniere la materialite est porteuse d’ambiance, en quoi elle participe a la definition du monde sensible. En envisageant certaines evolutions au cours de l’histoire des techniques, cette approche invite a montrer comment les facteurs d’ambiances peuvent jouer un role dans le design du monde materiel. Nous nous appuyons sur une investigation d’ordre documentaire et experimental en cours sur ces questions dans notre programme de recherche personnel.

In 2023, generative artificial intelligence (AI) emerged as a turning point in intellectual discourse, particularly in data analysis, data mining, writing, and composition (Campo-Ruiz, 2025; Wael et al., 2022). Generative AI refers to a broader category of AI systems that create new content, such as text, images, music, and videos. Large Language Models (LLMs) are a part of generative AI but focus specifically on text generation (Cummings et al., 2024). Unlike traditional automated writing assistance tools such as spell checkers and grammar checkers, LLMs-like chat generative pretrained transformer (ChatGPT)-demonstrated the capability to act as a rational agent, effectively creating text rather than merely assisting in its refinement.

It has been suggested that urbanization does not create ways of life but rather offers models that satisfy the expectations of public life. These models can result from the ways that architects, designers, artists, and social actors shape the urban atmosphere setting. In this context, this paper focuses on how São Paulo has worked toward designing a smart city with elements that advance complex issues and promote climate change solutions. This paper explores the processes of aestheticizing and expanding public spaces through an empirical qualitative analysis in which the visual value of a space is evaluated based on cognitive and emotional perceptions. The analysis concludes that aesthetics goes beyond visual and symbolic meanings. By incorporating sustainable and culturally diverse solutions, cities can showcase ethical and aesthetic values that go beyond just a “green image” associated with ecology. A sustainable city that promotes these values is what defines the urban atmosphere.

Landscapes are paradigm cases for a theory of atmospheres like that of Hermann Schmitz since there are several atmospheres which can be experienced in landscapes. Though, landscape is rather seldomly picked out explicitly as a central theme in Schmitz’s work. An exception, however, is his article Landscape as a Mode of Perception, in which he argues that something becomes a landscape not by belonging to so-called nature, but by a specific mode of perception. I will critically analyze his conception of landscape and argue that landscape is more than a mode of perception: the aspect of naturalness must also be given. Corporeal communication with vastness and, that is, excorporation (Ausleibung), is not enough to understand what is specificity of the landscape. The inclusion of the dimension of naturalness allows us furthermore to better understand one of the most important functions of landscape, namely recovery, and the often-associated transcendence of the subject-object-dichotomy.

Cependant La Tunisie tout autant que le contexte international, sont à l'heure de l'uniformisation des architectures, oscillant entre mimétisme formel et rupture totale avec le passé. Dès les années soixante-dix, Hassan Fathy avait fait le même diagnostic en Egypte , d' une appréhension de l'architecture en terme réducteur de « styles » (Fathy, 1976). Une conception contemporaine ayant recours à la réactivation des ambiances patrimoniales n'est-elle pas un moyen de marquer son temps dans une continuité par rapport au passé ? Notre recherche vise tout d'abord une caractérisation des ambiances patrimoniales de la région du Djérid. Le travail prend en outre appui sur une oeuvre architecturale récente, le Dar Hi , située à Nefta alliant typologies et formes contemporaines mais proposant aussi une approche conceptuelle basée sur la réinterprétation des ambiances passées. Afin de procéder à une lecture comparative entre les ambiances caractérisant l'esprit du lieu et celles du Dar Hi, nous avons eu recours à la transdisciplinarité et à une méthodologie d'approche multiple par croisement entre analyse de contenus de littératures diverses, des enquêtes sur site, et campagnes de mesures. C'est ainsi qu'ont été mis en exergue les modalités architecturales et effets ambiants, sonores, lumineux, kinesthésiques et aérauliques ainsi que les techniques, procédés et matériaux pouvant réactiver les ambiances spécifiques d'un lieu.

Integration of sustainable project management into small business practices is seldom examined in architectural lighting design. One of the major elements of the sustainability of urban ambience entities and preservation of social, architectural and urban values is lighting phenomenon. Its significance is reflected in the aesthetic, as well as the functional qualities of safety and amenity for users. Usually, keeping the traditional types of luminaries (i.e. lanterns) in order to preserve ambience values lies in contradiction with the contemporary requirements, mostly because of the obsolete structural support which normally yields the application of the obsolete lighting technology. On the other hand, the introduction of contemporary luminaries in the urban areas of cultural and historical significance is often undesirable. Thus, the issue of sustainability of the historical urban ambiance entities in the context of the application of the contemporary lighting technical solutions is presented in this paper from the point of view of a project-oriented small organization, which holds in core business the philosophy of the confirmation of the existing lighting fittings to the users' space. This paper proposes and confirms business model which assures preservation of architectural ambient, with added value of the energy efficiency, functionality, life cycle savings, safety and amenity for the users, through the case study of Park vojvode Bojovica in Belgrade, Serbia by experimental collecting of model inputs, whereas the obtained results are verified by means of numeric simulation. Results of this case study make contributions to the domain of management of sustainable projects in area of architectural lighting design while exploring broader social context.

In the ever-evolving discourse of urbanism, particularly in architecture, urban planning, and urban design disciplines, the proliferation of near-synonyms has become a critical focal point, deserving of scholarly attention. This linguistic phenomenon, while enriching in certain contexts, often leads to confusion and imprecision, ultimately hindering the clarity and effectiveness of academic communication. The time has come to address this tangled web of synonymous terminology with a strategic and thoughtful approach, ensuring that each term used contributes unequivocally to the advancement of our field.

Perhaps no meteorological phenomenon has enjoyed more interest than the wind. Both mutable and ambiguous, it has been interpreted in many ways over the centuries. This is particularly evident in the graphic arts, which have employed different strategies of representation.

Taking the neo-phenomenological interpretation of the wind as a ‘quasi-thing’, this paper explores the most common ways of representing this particular phenomenon within the European iconographic tradition, with the aim of identifying those that can best depict it in its quasi-thingly nature. More specifically, this work aims to show that – under certain conditions – painting is not only able to express the particular meteorological and affective nature of the wind, but can also be a useful tool for shedding light on the so-called theory of atmospheres, which are themselves grounded in the thesis of the spatiality of feelings.

With the help of a few examples from modern and contemporary painting, in which the wind finds its place as an aesthetic phenomenon, this paper outlines the possible characteristics of an atmospheric art in which the phenomenon is represented in all its affective power. Such art discloses or emphasizes the affective influence that phenomena such as the wind can exert on us, radically altering our sensory relationship with the world.

Im Auftrag der Schweizerischen Konferenz der kantonalen Erziehungsdirektoren (EDK) und des Bundesamtes für Berufsbildung und Technologie (BBT) wurde zwischen Anfang April und Mitte Mai 2011 eine gross angelegte Online-Umfrage zum Schweizerischen Bildungsserver durchgeführt. Mit der Umfrage sollte die Bekanntheit und Nutzung des Schweizerischen Bildungsservers festgestellt und der Grad der Zufriedenheit mit dem Angebot an Informationen, Online-Werkzeugen und Dienstleistungen ermittelt werden. Die Erhebungen wurden ergänzt mit exemplarischen Gruppeninterviews und mit Logfile-Analysen der Aktivitäten auf dem Informationsportal über den Zeitraum eines Monats. An der Befragung beteiligten sich 2433 Bildungsinteressierte aus allen Sprachregionen der Schweiz. Ein überraschendes Ergebnis der Umfrage ist, dass die meisten Angebote des Schweizerischen Bildungsservers einem grossen Teil der Befragten unbekannt sind. Nur 63% der befragten Personen kennen das Informationsportal www.educa.ch und nur 39% nutzen es zumindest gelegentlich. Verbreitet sind vor allem die Möglichkeiten zum Austausch von Unterrichtsmaterialien. Der Bekanntheitsgrad und die Nutzung vieler anderer Angebote des Bildungsservers ist beträchtlich geringer. Eine Ausnahme bildet allerdings die Lernplattform educanet². Sie ist 78% der befragten Personen ein Begriff und wird von 53% zumindest gelegentlich genutzt. Personen, die die Angebote des Schweizerischen Bildungsservers kennen, beurteilen diese überwiegend positiv. Dies gilt für praktisch alle Themen und Bereiche. Der neue Auftritt des Informationsportals seit Januar 2011 stellt zudem nach mehrheitlicher Meinung eine klare Verbesserung dar. Educanet² hingegen wird von vielen Befragten zwar als stabil und funktionsreich, jedoch auch als wenig attraktiv und eher umständlich eingeschätzt. Bei allen Einschätzungen gibt es aber auch viele Enthaltungen, insbesondere von Personen, die das jeweilige Angebot nicht oder nur selten nutzen. Bei der Bekanntheit, Nutzung und Beurteilung von Informationsportal, Online-Werkzeugen und Dienstleistungen zeigen sich eine Reihe von Unterschieden zwischen den Sprachregionen. Insgesamt sind Personen aus dem französischsprachigen Raum im Schnitt etwas schlechter über die Angebote informiert, nutzen diese weniger häufig und schätzen sie auch kritischer ein als Personen aus den anderen Landesteilen. In den Analysen der Nutzung des Informationsportals anhand der Logfiles zeigt sich allerdings annähernd die zu erwartende sprachregionale Verteilung. In Bezug auf die Schulstufen ist die Bekanntheit und Nutzung der Angebote vor allem im Bereich von Kindergarten und Unterstufe geringer. Aus den Ergebnissen lassen sich verschiedene Empfehlungen ableiten. Der Schweizerische Bildungsserver sollte seine Angebote deutlich stärker als bisher bekannt machen. Im föderalen Bildungssystem muss dafür eng mit den kantonalen Informationsportalen zusammengearbeitet werden. Die grosse Bekanntheit und Verbreitung von educanet² macht zudem eine bedarfsgerechte Weiterentwicklung dieses Angebots nötig. In vielen Kommentaren wird deutlich, dass die befragten Personen insbesondere bei der Einfachheit und Übersichtlichkeit dieser Lernplattform Verbesserungsbedarf sehen. Schliesslich wird angeregt, den Bildungsserver verstärkt von einer Informations-zu einer Austauschplattform zu machen. Mit neueren Möglichkeiten (Stichwort: Web 2.0) bestehen hier vielfältige Potenziale.

This research focuses on linear parks and its definition in terms of ambience, as a specific morphological typology engendering connectivity on spatial, social, ambient and ecological scales. This paper aims to investigate the ambience potentials of Al-Maryouttia Canal, in Cairo, imperiled by the urban sprawl in order to transform its banks into a linear park. Linear park concept targets to upgrade the threatened waterways located in the Cairene metropolitan context as a mean to renature the irrigation canals that shape the urban fabric in the city northern parts. The methodology depends on a photography exhibition and a roundtable session as main methods upon which different themes describing the ambience potentials were interpreted.

et mots clés : Dans cette thèse nous avons créé un test olfactif et vérifié son utilité pour dépister des troubles en lien avec la pathologie d'Alzheimer ou celle de l'apathie, ou encore dans la COVID-19. Après avoir recueilli l'avis des cliniciens et les recommandations des experts chimistes, nous avons ensuite sélectionné quatorze odeurs, mis au point un test olfactif informatisé qui permet d'obtenir automatiquement le score de seuil de perception et d'identification. Ce travail a permis le dépôt d'un Brevet d'invention pour le « Test Olfactif de dépistage de la maladie d'Alzheimer et de l'apathie », ou TODA. Nous avons vérifié l'intérêt du TODA en pratique de soins courants dans l'aide au diagnostic de la maladie d'Alzheimer auprès de malades d'Alzheimer et contrôles sains, en France et au Québec. Les scores olfactifs différenciaient très significativement les sujets, et étaient corrélés à la mesure cognitive globale. Le TODA permettait aussi de repérer une identification des odeurs différente en fonction de la culture et de la pathologie. Dans une population de sujets présentant un Trouble Cognitif Mineur avec ou sans apathie, les résultats au TODA permettaient de différencier les sujets très significativement, notamment dans la sous-dimension sociale des Critères de l'Apathie. Auprès de sujets présentant une post-infection à la COVID-19, le TODA a été utilisé en parallèle du Sniffin'Sticks Test, gold-standard actuel, pour vérifier la validité des résultats du TODA. Le TODA a aussi permis de mettre en évidence des confusions d'odeurs proches, révélant une atteinte de leurs propriétés olfactives. Son utilisation en cas de suspicion d'atteinte sémantique associée a elle aussi été concluante. La comparaison des scores obtenus au TODA par les sujets MA et par les sujets post-COVID-19 a révélé que les résultats étaient similaires. Seule l'étude des odeurs les plus significatives a permis de faire la différence entre les deux pathologies.

Developed within the framework of a French interdisciplinary research program1 and a design studio Master’s program of the Grenoble School of Architecture’s entitled Architecture, Cultures of the Senses and the Environment2, we have explored the notion of the “Urban Section” as a meeting-point between global environmental issues and situated, atmospheric qualities of space, as experienced through spatial practices. This initial idea was to develop the capacity of the urban section as a mode of representation allowing for the articulation of components of the urban milieu that are almost always considered separately from one another; built objects, the sensory realm and social practices. It was developed in the form of an exploratory, applied approach concerning specific environmental preoccupations; rising summer temperatures in the city of Grenoble (20072010) and the handling of solid waste in the city of Sao Paolo (2009-2010).

This paper reviews how excessive lighting in historical sites can negatively affect the enjoyment of social gatherings. Because light pollution has the potential to affect socialization negatively, we need the appropriate tools to handle these effects. As part of this research, three techniques were used to analyze these effects: a bibliographical examination of relevant concepts, field measurements of illumination levels at historical sites in Cairo, Egypt, as well as questionnaires sent out to users around the world to determine what influences their perceptions of historical sites at night. Based on the results of a systematic review, we developed the concept of toolkits for creating a lively ambiance for evening events. Furthermore, based on the spatial measurements made in the case study, it was determined that the challenge of visual pollution hinders creating a vibrant atmosphere at historical sites. An online survey that investigated the factors influencing the enjoyment of historical sites at night around the world found that positioning the lighting fixtures and illumination is one of the most critical factors. The results of the current study confirm that the urban form of the context provides a pleasant visual and perceptual experience at night as well. The findings of this study have led to three design considerations that can help urban planners and designers when it comes to implementing lighting in public spaces. As a result of these considerations, the historical site in the case study, Al-Hussein Square, Cairo, presents a livelier ambiance at night; hence they can be used by urban designers to enhance the ambiance in similar settings to the present case study. This toolkit provides valuable insights into how local authorities and citizens can work together to reduce lighting pollution by examining the causes of the pollution.

ZusammenfassungDer Artikel geht im Ausgang von der Leibphänomenologie auf deren Schlüsselbegriffe „Erfahrung“ und „Artikulation“ ein. Unter dieser Perspektive werden vier Paradigmata naturphänomenologisch näher betrachtet: a) die Einstellung der Biophilie, die sich eine naturgeschichtliche Mitgift, eine phänomenologische Aufgabe und eine Naturschutzperspektive unterscheidet, b) die Phänomene der gesundheitsförderlichen Wirkungen von Naturkontakten, c) Musterbeispiele deontischer Erfahrungen mit Naturwesen, deren Deutung für die Lösung des Inklusionsproblems relevant ist, und schließlich d) Versuche, Klimawandel in phänomenologische Erfahrung zu bringen. Im Fazit werden Überlegungen zu offenen Fragen und möglichen Konsequenzen angestellt, die sich für ein vertieftes Verständnis der Paradigmata ergeben könnten.

Vulnérabilité VS résilience urbaines et architectu-rales au Grand Tunis dans le contexte de changement climatique – Pr. Mahmoud Abdesselem – ENAU
‘Il faudrait adopter une politique urbaine basée sur le nouveau paradigme du développement durable qui répond effectivement aux Objectifs du Développement Durable’
Pr. Abdesselem est revenu, dans son intervention, sur l’évolution des usages des concepts de vulnérabilité et de résilience et sur la signification même des termes. Il affirme que l’on peut parler de vulnérabilité sur plusieurs échelles en partant de la vulnérabilité interne de la personne qu’à la vulnérabilité multidimensionnelle comprenant les aspects : physiques, socio-économiques, environnementaux et ins-titutionnels.
Il a par la suite évoqué la structuration spatiale de l’urbanisme du Grand Tunis et son impact sur la vulnérabilité de la région. Le spécialiste en sociologie urbaine a mis l’accent sur l’étalement urbain prononcé de la région. Il a surtout insisté sur la vulnérabilité des régions côtières de par la hausse du niveau de la mer et le risque accru d’inondations dans certaines régions proches des étendues d’eau et dans les bassins versants.

Purpose-Several initiatives have taken part in the sustainability assessment tools, especially on the neighbourhood scale. These tools have been developed as neighbourhood sustainability assessment tools (NSATs) in global and local settings. Despite the widespread use of NSATs over the last two decades, research on NSATs in Global South cities is currently limited. This review article synthesizes literature themes and provides research priorities for NSATs. Design/methodology/approach-This paper presents a systematic review of 48 research articles on NSATs in cities of the Global South, conducted and reported using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement. A thematic synthesis of 18 articles was reviewed using content analysis to provide a thematic classification and research priorities that outline approaches and actions for implementation. Findings-The results revealed five themes of NSATs for research tackling cities in the Global South, with one dominant theme related to case study-based frameworks and tools. The findings indicate a high level of affiliation contribution and research content focus within the Asian continent compared to the African continent and MENA region. Originality/value-This study contributes to the bibliometric analysis of where the current body of research stands in NSATs. The added value highlights research priorities based on themes, spatial regions and tools.

Seine Studien zielen auf die Begründung einer sozialen Anthropologie des Klanges, die sich weder den Diskursen über Störung und Belästigung noch den Diskursen zur Ästhetisierung von Geräuschen unterwirft. Doch stellt sich bald heraus, dass es dem neuen Forschungsfeld an deskriptiven Mitteln mangelt. Zwar vergrößert sich das klassische Instrumentarium der akustischen Messmethoden durch die Entwicklung digitaler Tontechnik und Informationsverarbeitung sehr rasch, doch betrifft dies nur quantitative Annäherungen und behandelt weder gewöhnliche Außenräume noch die Beziehung des Menschen zu seiner Klangumgebung. Zwar gibt es, was qualitative Ansätze betrifft, verschiedene Versuche, interdisziplinäre Untersuchungsmethoden zu entwickeln, doch insbesondere die Konzepte so wichtiger Autoren wie Pierre Schaeffer oder Murray Shafer bleiben hinter den Zielen ihres Vorhabens zurück. "Der Begriff der ‚Klanglandschaft' schien zu weitgefasst und zu unscharf zu sein, der Begriff des ‚Klangobjektes' (…) hingegen zu elementar, um damit sowohl im Maßstab alltäglicher Verhaltensweisen als auch im Maßstab des architektonischen und urbanen Raums bequem arbeiten zu können. In der Linguistik entspräche die Klanglandschaft der Ebene der gesamten Struktur eines Textes, das Klangobjekt dagegen den grundlegenden Bausteinen: Wörtern und Syntagmen. Es fehlt uns an Instrumenten, um die dazwischenliegende Ebene zu beschreiben: die Regeln der Grammatik oder, um nicht mehr im Vergleich zu sprechen, die Ebene eines Codes zwischen den drei Termini, die es zu beschreiben gilt: die Klangquellen, die bewohnte Umgebung und die untrennbare Einheit, die durch Klangwahrnehmung und Klanghandlung gebildet wird." » 2 Aus diesen drei Termini entsteht die grundlegende Definition des Begriffs des Klangeffektes, den Jean-François Augoyard mehr als zehn Jahre lang den Mitgliedern seines pluridisziplinären Teams einprägen wird. To this day, medical, biochemical and other scientists are concerned with the question whether differences of sex or ethnicity correspond to differences in body odor. In 2010, a discovery in the gene ABCC11 reinforced such considerations and once again drew the attention to the nexus between axillary perspiration and cerumen. This way, research from the early twentieth century imbedded in the ideological framework of »race medicine« found its disputable verification by modern genetics. Specific areas of research always reflect their own time and space. Keeping this firmly in mind, the essay tackles the question of which environmental conditioning, e.g., cultural and academic socialization, can be traced in scientific texts dating back to the beginning of the twentieth century and written in Bonn, Moscow, and Tokyo. This way, the essay aims to reveal both the transnational entanglements and the specific peculiarities and biases of this research.

Die Frage, inwieweit sich Differenzen mit Blick auf ethnische oder auch geschlechtliche Zugehörigkeit am Körpergeruch festmachen lassen, beschäftigt bis heute u.a. die medizinische und biochemische Forschung. 2010 erhielten solche Fragestellungen Aufwind durch die Entdeckungen im Hinblick auf das Gen ABCC11. Forschungen zu Differenzen im Geruch von Achselschweiß und der Konsistenz von Ohrenschmalz, die zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts im Zuge »rassenphysiologischer« Untersuchungen durchgeführt worden waren, fanden somit ihr lange gesuchtes Fundament in einem genetischen Nachweis.
Spezifische Forschungsrichtungen sind immer auch Kinder ihrer Zeit. Vor diesem Hintergrund frage ich, welche Prägungen, z.B. kulturelle und akademische Sozialisation, in den wissenschaftlichen Texten des 20. Jahrhunderts erfahrbar werden, die in Bonn, Moskau und Tokio entstanden. Dabei geht es mir sowohl um die transnationalen Verflechtungen als auch um die jeweiligen Eigenheiten, die sich in den unterschiedlich ausgerichteten »rassenphysiologischen« Untersuchungen offenbaren.

It presents an experimental process led by the author at architecture schools in France and in Japan.

The 2012 Internet mini-series The Beauty Inside and the 2015 Korean film based upon it, Byuti Insaideu, illustrate some crucial philosophical questions related to the body, our relationship to objects and the way we engage space. This paper discusses some of these implications in relation to the elusive concept of beauty in contemporary architectural practice.

Farbe ist kein eigentlich physikalischer, sondern ein phänomenologischer Gegenstand, der naturwissenschaftlich primär in der Biologie zu beheimaten ist. 2. Die oft vertretene Aussage, dass der Himmel blau sei, weil die Atmosphäre Licht bes mmter Wellenlänge vermehrt streut, greift darum zu kurz ("farbphysikalischer Kurzschluss"). 3. Die Frage, warum der Himmel blau ist, ist vielmehr primär eine biologische: Warum erscheint uns das so gestreute Licht blau (und nicht etwa grün)? 4. Um sie zu beantworten, ist zunächst die Physiologie des visuellen Systems zu betrachten. Schematisierend schlage ich hierzu das 3 x 3 der Farbentstehung vor: (drei Rezeptoren, drei Farbdimensionen, drei Transformazonen). Weiter wird ein Grundschema der Farbwelt vorgestellt und seine Plausibilität durch Permutationen gezeigt.

The New York Earth Room (1977) and Delcy Morelos' Earthly Paradise (2022) were executed 45 years apart, on different continents, in unrelated geo-political circumstances, stemming from distinct cultural and conceptual contexts. Even though they differ significantly in structural arrangement, the poignant materiality of these two works-a room-filled amount of earth-allows us to draw visual associations between them. However, what photographs fail to convey in both works is an invisible, yet essential component in which they happen to significantly differ: their odour. This essay takes the unconventional approach of smell as a point of departure to demonstrate how it can lead to nuanced understandings of earth as material, in a literal and metaphorical framework.

Menschen werden heute in vielfach vorstrukturierte, gebaute und atmosphärisch bewusst gestaltete Räume hineingeboren. Worauf aber beruht diese menschliche Fähigkeit zur Raumgestaltung? Dieser Frage wird mithilfe der philosophischen Anthropologie sowie mit Gilbert Simondons Technikphilosophie nachgegangen. Letztere postuliert in ihrem historischen Teil eine prähistorische ›magische Welt‹, die von ›begünstigen Orten‹ beherrscht gewesen sei, die dem menschlichen Milieu eine netzwerkartige Struktur gaben. Erst durch das Aufbrechen derselben seien die Bereiche der Technik und der Religion entstanden. Mithilfe des Atmosphärenbegiffs der Neuen Phänomenologie wird dies einerseits weiter ausgeführt, andererseits die zeitgenössische, tendenziell die gesamte Erdoberfläche betreffende Raumverfügung einer Kritik unterzogen. Als Schlüsselbegriff mit einem weitreichenden gesellschaftskritischen Potenzial erweist sich Simondons ästhetischer Begriff der ›Einfügung‹, insofern dieser die Grenze technischer Verfügung markiert. Der Artikel endet mit einem Plädoyer für die Stärkung einer Ortssensibilität im Umgang mit Technik und Raum.

Floral-scent-families and floral-odour-families, a classification for floral scents The classification "floral-scent-families and floral-odour-families" puts floral scents sharing the same dominant scent-component together into groups, named floral-scent-or floral-odour-family. Each floral-scent-or floral-odour family is clearly referenced by a common odorant of our everyday life. Floral-scent-families refer to odorants of plant origin and floral-odour-families to odorants of mostly animal origin. As the scent description shall be used additionally to pure morphological species description by amateurs as well as botanists, the instrument for the scent investigation is the human nose, since the human scent perception leads to the description of the dominant scent component. Up to now approximately 200 floral scents of the Austrian flora were grouped into 47 floral-scent-families and-subfamilies and 16 floral-odour-families respectively. During field work it was noticed that many species change their scent due to a specific parameter. Therefore the second part of the results and discussion introduces a new floral scent attribute, the scent-behaviour. It describes the scent-uniformity or scent-variability of a species. The scent-variability indicates that a species develops at least two different scents. There are seven groups of scent variability: five representing scent-switching species and two groups for scent-polymorphic species. Blütengeruchsfamilien, zusammen. Jede Blütenduft-bzw.-geruchsfamilie ist durch einen bekannten Duftträger der Erfahrungswelt eindeutig referenziert. Blütenduftfamilien werden durch Düfte pflanzlicher Herkunft und Blütengeruchsfamilien vor allem durch Gerüche tierischer Herkunft referenziert. Das Instrument für die Duftuntersuchung ist die menschliche Nase, weil die menschliche Riecherfahrung zur Benennung der dominanten Duftkomponente führt. Damit kann die Duftbeschreibung sowohl von interessierten Laien als auch von professionellen Botanikern ergänzend zur morphologischen Artbeschreibung verwendet werden. Bisher wurden etwa 200 Blütendüfte der österreichischen Flora zu 47 Blütenduftfamilien und-unterfamilien bzw. zu 16 Blütengeruchsfamilien geordnet. Da im Zuge der Feldarbeiten festgestellt wurde, dass viele Arten ihre Düfte einem Einflussfaktor entsprechend ändern, wird im zweiten Teil der Ergebnisse und Diskussion eine neue Eigenschaft zur Beschreibung von Blütendüften eingeführt, das Duftverhalten. Es unterscheidet zwischen duftkonstanten und duftvariablen Arten. Duftvariable Arten entwickeln zumindest zwei unterschiedliche, artspezifische Düfte. Die Duftvariabilität wird durch sieben Untergruppen dargestellt, fünf Gruppen für duftwechselnde und zwei für duftpolymorphe Arten.

Vor rund 60 Jahren ist das Buch Mensch und Raum von Otto Friedrich Bollnow erstmals erschienen. Der folgende Beitrag geht der Frage nach, inwieweit die Überlegungen des Philosophen (unter bestimmten Aspekten) noch heute aktuell sind. Bollnows Raum-Verständnis weicht in seiner phänomenologischen Orientierung geradezu grundlegend vom heute vorherrschenden sozialwissenschaftlichen Raumdenken ab. Umso mehr regt Bollnow dazu an, die Lehren des wissenschaftlichen Mainstream kritisch gegen den Strich zu lesen. Ins Zentrum der Suche nach heute möglicherweise bedeutsamen Themen und Methoden des Denkens rückt das Wohnen. Wie denkt Bollnow das Wohnen, und was sagt uns dies in einer Zeit, in der die Menschen ganz anders wohnen als in den 1950er Jahren? Brücken zu methodologisch benachbarten Theorien und Philosophen werden ebenso geschlagen (z. B. Heidegger, Dürckheim, Müller-Freienfels) wie zu anderen thematisch relevanten Arbeiten von Bollnow.

This paper outlines a new approach to measuring local quality of place. It uses a national database of some 500 types of local amenities to measure the local 'scene' in every US zip code. It provides a brief tour through the American 'scenescape' at the national, regional, urban and neighbourhood levels by outlining variations in types of amenities and the values they support, such as tradition, self-expression, transgression or local authenticity. And it shows that scenes with a strong self-expressive dimension promote growth and innovation while enhancing the economic impacts of technology clusters.

This book was born to home the dialogue that the neuroscientist Michael A. Arbib and the philosopher Tonino Griffero started at the end of 2021 about atmospheric experiences, striving to bridge the gap between cognitive science's perspective and the (neo)phenomenological one. This conversation progressed due to Pato Paez's offer to participate in the webinar "Architectural Atmospheres: Phenomenology, Cognition, and Feeling," a roundtable hosted by The Commission Project (TCP) within the Applied Neuroaesthetics initiative. Viele Zentren von Kleinstädten sind gegenwärtig mehr oder weniger dauerhaft von Leerstand im Einzelhandel betroffen. Er stellt für diese Städte auch deshalb ein Problem dar, weil er die Aufenthalts- und Erlebnisqualität der Zentren mindert. This research, which aims to improve the quality of urban hangouts to increase the quality of urban space on urban perception, originated from a basic ques‌tion which is to identify and prioritize the factors effective in improving the quality of the third place in urban perception, in this research artificial intelligence information by setting up a ques‌tionnaire The detailed influencing variables of the third rank of environmental perception have been collected. The purpose of this research is to inves‌tigate and identify the role of the third place in environmental perception, and since the research method is qualitative, it has been analyzed using research onion and MAXQDA software. In the end, by showing a map of the relationships between the influential variables of this research, it is s‌tated which includes: the sense of belonging, individual perception, experience and habit, and environmental perception.

Nous proposons dans cet article d’explorer de quelle maniere la materialite est porteuse d’ambiance, en quoi elle participe a la definition du monde sensible. En envisageant certaines evolutions au cours de l’histoire des techniques, cette approche invite a montrer comment les facteurs d’ambiances peuvent jouer un role dans le design du monde materiel. This paper presents a recently discovered episode in the intellectual history of urbanism. It concerns theory and practice in the field in the first decades of the twentieth century when it was in the process of establishing itself as an academic discipline and a profession. I will demonstrate how the idea of ambiance as we understand it today can serve as a point of departure for questioning certain ideas and developments of that time. In doing so, I will seek to contribute to current research on urban ambiances by addressing the question of ambiance as a subject of historical inquiry. I will present an archive of iconographic documents, photographed on glass slides under the direction of Marcel Poete (1860–1950), an archivist and historian working in Paris as of 1906 who soon became a central figure in the emerging discipline of Urbanism. Autistic children and presbycusis elderly are examples of ‘specific’ space users which altered perception of sonic ambiances in particular affects their relationship to the urban and architectural space. Our research is on crossroads of several disciplines. It focuses on analysis of stress levels for those particular populations in some daily situations in urban and architectural spaces, using Electro-Dermal Activity (EDA) tracking that evaluates the arousal via skin conductance measurements. The understanding of discrete situations of anxiety should be useful to find a balance between standard and quality in space design, taking sonic ambiances into account.
