Genre detection

In this paper, we report on a preliminary study we carried out for identifying patterns that characterize the genre type of Greek texts. In the course of our study, we address four distinct genre types, we record their observable stylistic elements and we indicate their exploitation for automatic genre-based document classi-fication. The findings of our study demonstrate that texts contain lexical features with discriminative power as far as genre is concerned, however modeling those features so that they can be explored by computer-based applications is still in early stages.

To this end we present a platform called EINS Evidence Base (EINS-EB) which is developed as part of the EINS project. The EINS-EB also aims to empower researchers, academics, organisations and society to engage with Internet Science research independent of background. Currently, it provides for the collection and discovery of data resources, of analytic and simulation tools, and, in the future, of the methodologies behind those tools an of relevant scholarly activity. We explore issues of data representation, dataset description, dataset catalogues and method catalogues for Internet Science. The evidence base adopts semantic technologies to provide an interoperable catalogue of online resources related to Internet science. We also present activities on making the evidence base interoperable with related e-Science activities by communities engaging in relevant interdisciplinary collaboration.

Background In this paper we present a model of parameters to aesthetically characterize films using a multidisciplinary approach: by combining film theory, visual low-level video descriptors (modeled in order to supply aesthetic information) and classification techniques using machine and deep learning. Methods Four different tests have been developed, each for a different application, proving the model's usefulness. These applications are: aesthetic style clustering, prediction of production year, genre detection and influence on film popularity. Results The results are compared against high-level information to determine the accuracy of the model to classify films without knowing such information previously. The main difference with other film characterization approaches is that we are able to isolate the influence of high-level descriptors to really understand the relevance of low-level features and, accordingly propose a useful set of low-level visual descriptors for that purpose. This model has been tested with a representative number of films to prove that it can be used for different applications.

Au Québec, la pollution engendrée par les eaux de ruissellement s'apparente à celle des effluents des eaux usées et des rejets industriels, les zones résidentielles urbaines étant considérées comme étant l'une des principales sources. Pour répondre à cette problématique, les gestionnaires municipaux se tournent de plus en plus vers des infrastructures de gestion durable des eaux pluviales, telles que les jardins de pluie. Par contre, la décision d'implanter des jardins pluviaux sur des terrains privés résidentiels revient entièrement aux propriétaires québécois, qui sont d'ailleurs très peu conscients des enjeux. Dans ce contexte, l'utilisation de la réglementation pour forcer l'implantation de jardins de pluie peut être considérée comme une méthode coercitive impliquant un risque de non-acceptabilité de la part des citoyens. Ainsi, il semble pertinent d'adopter une méthode plus douce permettant d'éduquer les citoyens et d'influencer leurs attitudes de manière à ce qu'ils prennent conscience du problème, mais surtout de leur pouvoir pour mitiger celuici. Dans cette perspective, l'objectif de l'essai était de concevoir un programme de changement comportemental visant à influencer les propriétaires résidentiels québécois à implanter des jardins pluviaux sur leur terrain. Pour ce faire, une approche de marketing social a été utilisée : le public cible et le comportement cible ont été distingués ; les freins et les motivations relatifs au comportement cible ont été identifiés ; un choix des outils de changement a été effectué et intégré dans un programme ; et finalement, un outil d'évaluation du programme a été élaboré. Cependant, aucun projet pilote n'a été réalisé en raison d'un manque de ressources. En somme, l'analyse exhaustive de la littérature et la conduite de six entrevues auprès de gestionnaires municipaux et d'organismes de protection de l'eau ont permis de concevoir un programme de marketing social pouvant être utilisé par les municipalités et les organismes du Québec qui ont un intérêt pour la gestion durable des eaux de pluie. Celui-ci s'échelonne sur une période de 5 ans et croise les outils de communication engageante, d'engagement, d'incitatifs financiers et sociaux, de simplification du contexte, ainsi que des normes sociales pour influencer graduellement les propriétaires à construire un jardin pluvial sur leur terrain privé. ii REMERCIEMENTS L'accomplissement est une perception qui se forme lentement, à partir d'un très jeune âge, jour après jour, année après année, selon les personnes rencontrées, les évènements vécus, le monde observé, mais aussi les pensées que l'on y met. Au fil des expériences, la définition d'accomplissement devient relative à chacun. Pour l'un, devenir un homme d'affaires prolifique, pour l'autre, élever des enfants heureux et en santé. Dans certaines régions du monde, l'accomplissement est une luxure loin de la portée de la main. En ayant réfléchi à cette constatation, l'accomplissement est devenu pour moi une chose plutôt futile; les « deadlines » sont des illusions aux tons parfois forcenés et, ma foi, très angoissants. Sans buts distincts et exposé à un monde aux bouleversants effluves, j'ai trouvé refuge dans une pensée morale plutôt universelle aux actions concrètes : faire le bien. L'environnement s'inscrivait parfaitement dans cette maxime, puisque c'est un domaine qui cherche à réunir les gens et appliquer des solutions tangibles permettant d'améliorer de manière continuelle le bien-être des individus, et ce, sans arrière-pensées. Essentiellement, c'est un domaine où l'on cherche à faire le bien sur une grande échelle. Pour arriver à développer ma capacité à faire le bien, j'ai été chanceux de naître dans un endroit aux ressources plus qu'abondantes, exposé de manière constante à de l'affection et de la bonté provenant des membres de ma famille et de mes amis. Je pense particulièrement à mes parents, qui ont toujours été d'un grand soutien, compréhensibles et disponibles à mes besoins peu importe les directions que je décidais de prendre. Abstract: This paper exhibits the experimentation of partially replacing plastic coarse aggregates in the concrete, obtain the results and interpret it to get a generalized statement. This concept proposes an approach which can contribute towards nature by consuming plastic and serve the industry better as well as stay competitive in the market but its application is still not seen widely in general practice. Various causes and effects which are responsible for non-acceptance of this concept within the construction industry must be understood. The purpose of this study was to analyze efforts to increase the synergy between teachers and supervisors in improving academic supervision. This research uses qualitative research with a case study approach. The types of data in this study are primary data and secondary data. All that matters is being on the scene at the right moment. What was not recorded did not happen. The infatuated affection for Sally that befalls the hero of the story also makes Buster an amateur of film. It seems as if the innocence
of the amateur is needed to save the honor of the documentary. By throwing himself into a hail of bullets somnambulistic self-forgetfulness or by intervening in what is happening in front of the camera, Buster advances to become the real hero of the story and thereby wins Sally's love.
Keaton's Cameraman not only negotiates essential properties of the constitution of the cinematic medium, it is also an early lesson in the dubious nature of news images. Staging a permanent blurring of the documentary, the film seems like a harbinger of the discussion about the truthfulness of cinematic images and their manipulability within the context of fake news.

The economic hardship that has plagued Zimbabwe has led to a shift from the traditionally intact family to a singleparenthood family. Many factors lead to single parenthood including divorce, separation of all kinds and deaths. Single parenthood negatively impacts on students' academic development. Efficient project management can ensure success and reduce the impacts of delays and changes that occur during the execution of the project. For this, there are the Critical Success Factors, which are essential for the company to achieve its mission. The objective of this study was to verify the influence of experience and research time on the perception of FCS in project management in the civil construction industry with the use of Artificial Neural Networks. To achieve this objective, data collected by a survey which resulted in 191 valid observations. Relative and global indices of importance were calculated. ANN was used to assess the most significant success factors using Neuro4 software with the algorithm: Resilient Propagation in the process of obtaining satisfactory RNA. The FCS: Unrealistic inspection and testing methods proposed in the contract were the most critical in project management in both perspectives and in the times considered by each of them, for the projects to achieve success. The ANNs produce subsidies to know the adopted input variables, they are efficient to order and transfer knowledge and they constitute a precise means for modeling non-linear variables.

In future, research should focus on different single-parent homes to AP.

Seven years hence from now, the world would celebrate the birth centenary of a thought, an extraordinary thought in the history of cinema – to film Karl Marx’s magnum opus Das Kapital / Capital, or Das Kapital. Kritik der politischen Ökonomie / Capital. A Critique of Political Economy, to be precise. The thought, the vichār, occurred in the mind of Sergei Mikhailovich Eisenstein (1898-1948), one of the world’s most significant film directors and the pioneer film theorist, who has left behind an archive or a museum-full of work not only on celluloid but also on paper, in words, figures and illustrations. Sergei Eisenstein made only six finished films during his life time but wrote massive amount of texts and drew sketches, wrote notes and memoirs and letters, and unrealized monumental projects that he had dreamt to accomplish, two of them included filming Karl Marx’s Capital and James Joyce’s Ulysses; the thought that occurred and agglomerated almost at the same time, on parallel tracks!

One of the most complex works of recent cinema, Kluge’s film offers us a reconstruction of Eisenstein’s unfinished project of filming Capital; it is divided into three parts: (1) Marx and Eisenstein in the Same House, (2) All things are Bewitched People, and (3) Paradoxes of the Exchange Society; these works - the long film and shorter video installation aim to ‘cinematize’ (which has perhaps the embryonic elasticity to include video or its installation), For Kluge, Eisenstein’s phrase – to cinematize – conveyed his infinite confidence in film’s ability to translate Marx’s work into a compelling audio-visual, spatio-temporal narrative. In three different parts, Kluge creates his own sense of ‘montage’ interiorizing fragments from Eisenstein’s films, recitations from Marx’s Das Kapital and the Communist Manifesto, critical views from various scholars in different dialogic spaces and strategies. Within this ambit, Kluge, as the film’s / installation’s title News from Ideological Antiquity: Marx / Eisenstein / Capital suggests, seeks to constitute an antiquity appropriate to today’s challenges and complexities.

My contribution delves into the work of the pioneering German film critic Hermann Häfker, who dedicated an influential essay to the relation between film and geography (Kino und Erdkunde) as early as in 1914.  Häfker was active in the German movement for a film reform since the first decade ot the XXth century, and Kino und Erdkunde, on the one hand, represents a passionate  defense of an educational use of film in schools and public institutions, expressing the most progressive debates of contemporary cultural life, but, on the other hand, it shows the ideological limits and anxieties of a utopian and positivist “geographical” thinking just at the dawn of the WWI crisis.

Films plays a vital role in providing entertainment for the public. Films the we seen in cinemas are ranging from independent films to Hollywood movies. Some of the films are start from scratch, beginning with a concept or idea to convey the film’s message. Other films will go in another direction, that is film adaption.

One of the film adaptation is literature adaptation, where the films are created and produced based on original literature works done by various artistic professions, such as poet, author or stage producer. Literature adaptation is a method that turns a hundred-page novel or other literature works into a movie.

However, there is some concerns on film adaptation, as directors and producers worried additional of scenes/plots to the adapted movie might lose its meaning and veered off from the original story plot. Following the entire original context will make the adapted movie boring and dull, especially the loyal fans of literature works and the people who first time encounter of this literature works.

Nevertheless, all of them (moviegoers) are expecting the movie to be more interesting by adding a bit of additional plots/scenes into the movie, that will make it more interesting; rather than a movie that is just dull and lack of creativity.

Further discussion on literature adaption will be done in this paper; with examples of literature adaption.

Meanwhile, Technological innovation is both concrete and historical, and abstract and evolutionary. 1 Introduction Technological innovation has entered into our social life through medical technologies, informative technologies, industrial technologies, experimental technologies and other approaches, and has deeply influenced the way people live, behave and think, when the first CT machine replaced a batch of traditional medical methods to diagnose diseases as well as when mobile internet, big data and E-business locked people's life to screens. It is a time when technological innovation has gone beyond the technology itself and has become a general human practice that can be spread and a way of behavior that is commonly recognized and utilized. 2 Results 2.1The cultural innovation brought by the demonstration effect of technology Since the industrial revolution, the huge value of technological innovation has benefited all areas of social life along with the popularization of technological innovation produces. An advertisement, a promotional activity to inform the target audience of the product / service, to persuade them to purchase it, to keep it alive in their memories, and to add value to it, is mostly transmitted to its target audience via television in order to make this product / service first choice of its audience in the market where the competition is harsh. Television as the primary choice of the advertisers to spread their messages thanks to its easy and fast access to the audience, and appealing to the visual and auditory stimuli is most probably the most substantial bridge between the advertisers and their audiences. Though appearing to be reliable, this bridge harbours many dangers for kids as well as the adults with its appealing sounds and various colours. The advertisements, sending their messages easily to the audiences including the kids, have positive and negative influences on the kids when the current conditions are considered. Both the kids acting for the advertisements and those exposed to them fall into the spheres of influence of the advertisements. With this regard, this study focuses on the negative influences of the advertisements on kids. Within this context, it analyses the " Koton Kids " advertisement screened on TV in 2014 which promotes the kids wear through child actors. The theme of the advertisement is that the kids behaving like the adults can make their images on their own, and the selected advertisement will be examined through a survey. The purpose of the analysis is to reveal the influence of the advertisement which has been widely criticised in Turkey after its screening. These influences will be analysed through some theories.

A colleague of Roland Barthes at the CNRS in the 1950s and co-writer and friend of Cornelius Castoriadis until the latter's death, Edgar Morin has until recently been too little known in the English-speaking world. In an oeuvre that spans half a century, attempting to combine in ongoing dialogue the 'humanities' and 'sciences', Morin has written on scientific method, fundamental anthropology, politics, contemporary life and popular culture. He is an advocate of 'complex' thought, thought which does not reduce, rationalize and mutilate phenomena under examination, which emphasizes the interaction between researcher and researched, and participation as a way of being in the world. This article particularly focuses on his work on death and cinema, suggesting a strong continuity between his early studies and his more recent writing on complexity and ecology. This radically democratic complexion of Morin's writings, his emphasis on a human empathy that can incorporate notions of unity and difference, make him a thinker of great relevance for today.

Poetry is a form of art that is used to express emotions and feelings. Humans can easily distinguish poetry without any sophisticated tools. This study is concerned with developing intelligent methods which can be used to distinguish poem from prose. The goal is to distinguish and extract effective poetic features with which poems/lyrics can be accurately classified from other type of texts. In this paper, we propose five different approaches to poem classification. In each approach, we extracted a different set of poetic features and evaluated their performances against each other. In addition, we empirically assessed the effectiveness of traditional text classification methods for poem recognition and compared it with the proposed poetic features. While all of these approaches performed well, some showed superior results. Findings of this study suggest that the proposed features generate highly accurate classifiers, which can be used for poem mining in large databases such as World Wide Web.

Literature is one of the most significant forms of human culture. It represents a high level of intellectual activity. Humans write, read, and enjoy poems in different cultures. The purpose of this work is to initiate research in the field of poem recognition, not to understand them by electronic devices, but to provide humans with modern tools to search for and work with lyrics. This study is concerned to illuminate the challenges of poem recognition from different perspectives. In this paper, various measures of poetry are introduced and their effectiveness are investigated in different case studies using fuzzy logic, bayesian approach, and decision trees.
