The new technologies that emerged in the second half of the twentieth
century have reached the power to change the social and economic conditions
all over the world. In many parts of our daily lives, we live side by side with these
technologies, knowingly or unknowingly. One of the technological products
that has attracted great interest in our country in recent years is computers.
The word computer has become a lexis that is heard and used frequently in
our daily lives. Computers are a tool that many of us have come across for one
reason or another. They have increased efficiency in every field they are used in,
taking part in all commercial, industrial and educational activities of societies
and have become an important place in human life (Seferoğlu, 2005). They
have ceased to be an unfamiliar concept for many people. What is imagined by
computer is “electronic machine that accepts information as input, processes
it according to a program loaded in memory and transmits the result to
the user as output”. In our country, education has been handled based on
common senses rather than a scientific approach from the past to the present.
Education and culture have always been concerned with the establishment
and adoption of ideas rather than their changes. However, the era we live in
today has a quality that lacks continuity and stability and is characterized by
rapid change. In this environment, skills based on mechanization have given
way to skills based on information technology (Sharma, 2009).
The rapidly developing new technologies in the second half of the twentieth
century have radically changed social and economic structures (Seferoğlu,
2005:12). Computers in particular have become an important technological
tool that is effectively used in almost every field today and has a place in the
lives of almost every individual. Although computers were initially developed
as electronic devices for military purposes, they soon began to be used in
many areas such as trade, industry, education, medicine, social sciences and
mathematics (Stanley, 2013: 45).

Wordsmith, Heliograf ve Quil başta olmak üzere çeşitli yapay zekâ uygulamaları, rutin içerikler bakımından otomatik haber yazımı yaparak medya alanında yeni bir tür olarak robot gazetecilik pratiğini ortaya çıkarmıştır. Günlük finans raporları, skor tahminleri, hava durumu vb. konu ve alanlarda anlık ve hızlı bir şekilde içerik oluşturabilen otomatik haber yazım sistemleri, medyanın haber üretimini kolaylaştırmaktadır. Bu süreçte ortaya çıkan bir diğer gazetecilik pratiği de SEO (Search Engine Optimization) haberciliğidir. Haberlerin Google gibi arama motorlarında daha görünür hale gelmesi amacıyla içeriklerin belirli anahtar sözcükler ve algoritmalara göre hazırlanması sürecine karşılık gelen SEO habercilik pratiği, anlatıların homojenleşmesine neden olarak bu içerikleri takip eden bireylerin de filtrelenmiş içeriklere maruz kalmasına ve yankı odasına hapsolmasına zemin hazırlamaktadır.
Buradan hareketle bu çalışmada; öncelikle, yapay zekânın tarihsel yolculuğu ve yapay zekâ ile medya ilişkisine değinilmektedir. Akabinde, yapay zekânın medya alanında kullanılmaya başlanmasıyla gündemimize giren SEO habercilik ve otomatik haber üretim sürecine karşılık gelen robot gazetecilik gibi türlere dikkat çekilerek yapay zekâ ve medya ilişkisi üzerine bir tartışma gerçekleştirilmektedir.

El importante impacto del uso de las tecnologías digitales en las relaciones
sociales, y en especial de las redes sociales, hace que políticos y
administraciones estén presentes en ellas. La aparición de la web 2.0
facilita el acceso de los ciudadanos a la gestión de la administración y
permite la interactuación, algo que convierte a estas redes en plataformas
de comunicación política que cambian el concepto de espacio público y
cuestionan la hegemonía de los medios tradicionales sobre la información.
Por ello, desde 2011, los gabinetes de comunicación de la Diputación de
Castellón y de los ayuntamientos con mayor peso socioeconómico de la
provincia han pasado de compatibilizar la emisión de comunicados en la
web institucional a crear perfiles corporativos en las redes sociales, en
especial en Twiter. Este trabajo tiene como objeto de estudio el análisis
de la evolución y cambios de la estrategia relacional de los gabinetes de
comunicación para acercarse a los ciudadanos y recuperar su confianza.
Se hace a partir de la consulta de datos secundarios como la emisión de
comunicados de prensa desde 2011 hasta 2013 y del análisis de los
mensajes institucionales en Twiter con las herramientas Metricspot y
Brandtweet. Se constata el aumento de información institucional en sus
websites y redes

During the last years we have been witnesses of a metamorphosis in journalistic products, in the journalistic profession and in the mass media-audience relationship.
People haven’t participated in the construction of the mediatic speech traditionally. Internet has changed that tendency allowing users to be emitters also. The reason of this change is related with the birth of a new communication platform, and setting up a new communicative rhetoric that arrives through cybermedia, where users’ participation has been accepted as a usual practice. Internet has changed the way journalists work and it has opened new possibilities to the citizens participation; and we have reflected and investigated about these two positive questions.
Our paper analyzes the participative journalism applied by the most important Spanish generalist television networks (rtve.es, telecinco.es, antena3.com, plus.es, lasexta.com) in their websites, focusing on weblogs, where tv famous faces extend their activities. This usage means that new media wish to be close to their audiences through different platforms,
looking for the creation of active communities, applying all kind of tools that allow to break the unidirectionality of the traditional mediatic messages. Although many televisions are redefining their website offer to include this kind of contents in a global bet to increase the participation and the interactivity, and without any discrimination between the public and the private spheres, there are still little studies covering this topic, probably because of its recent history.

We present a teacher training experience in the acquisition of new competencies to design educational proposals supported by the immersive virtual environments, aims to introduce teachers and stakeholders in higher education, the educational method incorporating the use of tools 3D digital. Their development was considered as a pilot for the implementation of the Diploma in Applied Virtual Worlds for Teaching and was named Pilot Course Introduction to Moodle and Virtual Worlds. The shared experience now shows that the potential of this tool is located in the "learning by doing" and the Pedagogical Mediation. And it highlights the importance and functionality to include such activities in the formation processes of the universities.

Esta dissertação aborda, de um ponto de vista crítico, a teoria do Conetivismo à luz dos seus princípios e das respetivas implicações na visão tradicional de aprendizagem e de conhecimento. A tese foi desenvolvida tendo em conta uma metodologia de revisão bibliográfica das publicações mais relevantes da autoria dos principais representantes do Conetivismo, nomeadamente George Siemens e Stephen Downes, estando sempre subjacente a preocupação em não apresentar apenas mais um estudo sintetizador da teoria, mas simultaneamente uma visão crítica do Conetivismo. Enquanto teoria de aprendizagem para uns, mera perspetiva epistemológica para outros, o Conetivismo tem assumido um papel crescente no debate acerca daquilo que entendemos por aprendizagem em rede e das suas implicações nos estatutos tradicionais do conhecimento e da aprendizagem e até do papel dos educadores e dos alunos. Alvo de reconhecimento para uns, de críticas para outros, o Conetivismo está ainda a dar os primeiros passos no desenvolvimento de uma visão epistemológica inovadora, principalmente no que diz respeito à partilha em rede, à aprendizagem centrada em comunidades online, regidas por interesses e objetivos comuns, onde a auto-aprendizagem é fundamental. Mas que consequências traz esta nova forma de encarar a aprendizagem? Até que ponto o Conetivismo é uma teoria que vai mais além das teorias de aprendizagem anteriores? Molecular biology offers a large, complex and volatile domain that tests knowledge representation techniques to the limit of their fidelity, precision, expressivity and adaptability. The discipline of molecular biology and bioinformatics relies greatly on the use of community knowledge, rather than laws and axioms, to further understanding, and knowledge generation. This knowledge has traditionally been kept as natural language. Given the exponential growth of already large quantities of data and associated knowledge, this is an unsustainable form of representation. This knowledge needs to be stored in a computationally amenable form and ontologies offer a mechanism for creating a shared understanding of a community for both humans and computers. Ontologies have been built and used for many domains and this chapter explores their role within bioinformatics. Structured classifications have a long history in biology; not least in the Linnean description of species. The explicit use of ontologies, however, is more recent. This chapter provides a survey of the need for ontologies; the nature of the domain and the knowledge tasks involved; and then an overview of ontology work in the discipline. The widest use of ontologies within biology is for conceptual annotationa representation of stored knowledge more computationally amenable than natural language. An ontology also offers a means to create the illusion of a common query interface over diverse, distributed information sources -here an ontology creates a shared understanding for the user and also a means to computationally reconcile heterogeneities between the resources. Ontologies also provide a means for a schema definition suitable for the complexity and precision required for biology's knowledge bases. Coming right up to date, bioinformatics is well set as an exemplar of the Semantic Web, offering both web accessible content and services conceptually marked up as a means for computational exploitation of its resources -this theme is explored through the my GRID services ontology. Ontologies in bioinformatics cover a wide range of usages and representation styles. Bioinformatics offers an exciting application area in which the community can see a real need for ontology based technology to work and deliver its promise.

The main objective of this course is to understand, analyze, and critically evaluate the contemporary challenges facing political science in today's world. Issues such as the crisis of democracy, authoritarian tendencies, migration and refugee movements, global inequality, identity politics, disinformation, artificial intelligence, and digital surveillance have become central to contemporary politics. The course aims to provide students with a foundation to approach these topics from an interdisciplinary perspective, enabling them to both strengthen their theoretical knowledge and critically assess current political developments. Students will be encouraged to evaluate the social, economic, and technological dimensions of political issues, compare different perspectives, and develop critical thinking skills. Thus, the course is designed not only to promote academic knowledge production but also to foster active citizenship and a sense of social responsibility.

The dark web is the hidden part of the internet that is not indexed by search engines and is only accessible with a specific browser like The Onion Router (Tor). Tor was originally developed as a means of secure communications and is still used worldwide for individuals seeking privacy or those wanting to circumvent restrictive regimes. The dark web has become synonymous with nefarious and illicit content which manifests itself in underground marketplaces containing illegal goods such as drugs, stolen credit cards, stolen user credentials, child pornography, and more . Dark web marketplaces contribute both to illegal drug usage and child pornography. Given the fundamental goal of privacy and anonymity, there are limited techniques for finding forensic artifacts and evidence files when investigating misuse and criminal activity in the dark web. Previous studies of digital forensics frameworks reveal a common theme of collection, examination, analysis, and reporting. The existence and frequency of proposed frameworks demonstrate the acceptance and utility of these frameworks in the field of digital forensics. Previous studies of dark web forensics have focused on network forensics rather than hostbased forensics. macOS is the second most popular operating system after Windows (Net Marketshare, n.d.); however, previous research has focused on the Windows operating system with little attention given to macOS forensics. This research uses design science methodology to develop a framework for identifying host-based artifacts during a digital forensic investigation involving suspected dark web use. Both the Windows operating system and macOS are included with the expected result being a reusable, comprehensive framework that is easy to follow and assists investigators in finding artifacts that are designed to be hidden or otherwise hard to find. The contribution of this framework will assist investigators in identifying evidence in cases where the user is suspected of accessing the dark web for criminal intent when little or no other evidence of a crime is present. The artifact produced for this research, The Dark Web Artifact Framework, was evaluated using three different methods to ensure that it met the stated goals of being easy to follow, considering both Windows and macOS operating systems, considering multiple ways of accessing the dark web, and being adaptable to future platforms. The methods of evaluation v included experimental evaluation conducted using a simulation of the framework, comparison of a previously worked dark web case using the created framework, and the expert opinion of members of the South Dakota Internet Crimes Against Children taskforce (ICAC) and the A digital component can be found in nearly every crime committed today. The Dark Web Artifact Framework is a reusable, paperless, comprehensive framework that provides investigators with a map to follow to locate the necessary artifacts to determine if the system being investigated has been used to access the dark web for the purpose of committing a crime. In the creation of this framework, a process itself was created that will contribute to future works. The core of the work described in this paper is a small-scale qualitative research project based on the classroom observation of rtudent teachers in England following a 1-year "PGCE" (postgraduate continuing education) course in 1992. This project was underpinned by an exploration of a theoretical model of the nature of the relationship between practice and theory and formed an initial attempt to develop a practical dialogic methodology for co-operative reflection on professional practice: in this case for both student teachers and their trainers. The classrooms under consideration were mathematics and modern language classrooms in British secondary schools. Part 1 of the paper raises issues about co-operative action and its place within educational research. Part 2 offers a brief discussion of the nature of the relationship tAween theory and practice together with an attempt to construct a three-level triadic model to show how this applies to professional training. This model is used later in the paper as a framework for discussion of students' practice and the theories and range of practices of teacher educators. Part 3 focuses directly on four student teachers' behaviors and their theories. Part 4 explores the processes used by the trainers to articulate their theories about their professional work. Part 5 looks directly at some of the hypotheses and questions about classrooms and about knowledge of the professional practice of teacher educators raised through the work of the project. Part 6 offers a summary of the hoc dialogic methodology employed during this work. Este ensayo reflexiona sobre la política estética en la producción iconoclasta desde los feminismos surgidos en el espacio público sobre intervenciones elaboradas en algunos puntos geográficos de México para elaborar una discusión sobre cómo la iconoclasia avanza como un acto de intervención performativa. Sobre lo anterior, consideramos que la iconoclasia es una respuesta a las gramáticas de la violencia contra los cuerpos feminizados, y en ese sentido es un acto restaurativo en el que la intervención se torna herramienta para la resignificación en las zonas del espacio y la historia. La materialidad de estas acciones se inscribe sobre la memoria de la lucha feminista en el presente, generando un archivo visual que, lejos de clausurar el pasado, lo tensiona y lo reconfigura. Es en este desplazamiento donde se gesta una nueva política estética: una que entiende la imagen no como representación quieta, sino como campo de lucha donde se disputa el sentido, la posición y la posibilidad de imaginar.

Nos últimos anos, o contínuo desenvolvimento de plataformas de streaming transnacionais ampliou os canais de disseminação internacional das obras cinematográficas e televisivas chinesas, permitindo que histórias e vozes da China alcancem um palco global mais amplo. A difusão do conteúdo audiovisual chinês no Brasil é um fenômeno relativamente recente e ainda pouco explorado. No entanto, os telespectadores brasileiros têm demonstrado um interesse crescente por produções chinesas, e plataformas de streaming voltadas para conteúdos asiáticos vêm ganhando popularidade no país. Este artigo analisa a disseminação e a recepção das produções seriadas chinesas no Brasil, explorando de que maneira as plataformas transnacionais de streaming e as comunidades de fãs contribuem para a circulação internacional dessas produções.

Este projeto de Relações Públicas explora a aplicação estratégica da disciplina no contexto de uma campanha eleitoral fictícia, focada no Partido do Progresso e da Inovação (PPI) e sua candidata, a Dra. Ana Lúcia Siqueira. Partindo de uma análise detalhada do perfil do partido e da candidata, o trabalho define objetivos e metas claros, delineando um plano de comunicação que visa posicioná-la como uma líder qualificada e transparente. O projeto aborda a complexa "venda" do candidato como um processo de construção narrativa, utilizando uma comunicação segmentada e multicanal para humanizar a imagem e fortalecer a confiança junto ao eleitorado.
A metodologia proposta abrange a gestão completa da comunicação, incluindo o planejamento financeiro, a criação de uma rede de comunicação interna coesa e a elaboração de um robusto plano de relacionamento com a mídia. O estudo demonstra como a gestão estratégica de Relações Públicas é crucial para o sucesso de uma campanha, permitindo o controle da narrativa e a construção de uma reputação sólida. Em vez de se limitar a táticas de propaganda, o projeto enfatiza a comunicação bidirecional e a transparência como pilares para o estabelecimento de relações recíprocas com os públicos, garantindo que a mensagem da campanha seja recebida com credibilidade e legitimidade.

Esta pesquisa empirica, de carater exploratorio, procura revelar os indicios de visibilidade vulneravel e de uma fragil interacao quando se observa a pagina de uma entidade estatal (Prefeitura) no Facebook . Por meio da analise dos dados quantitativos extraidos com o aplicativo Netvizz, percebe-se que: 1) a visibilidade presente na pagina e voltada preferencialmente para as acoes que a prefeitura realiza na cidade e informacoes que visam apenas a promocao de uma imagem que os proprios cidadaos questionam; e 2) a interacao da Prefeitura com o cidadao ludovicense e fragil, ja que nao aproveita toda a potencialidade da pagina enquanto ferramenta para construcao de pontes com o cidadao.

Baltic seminar on contemporary theory and methods in media research. The seminar for doctoral and master's students from several universities of the Scandina vian and Baltic countries was held from July 29 to August 8, 1996, in Estonia in the village of Pühajärve. In all, 39 students, teachers and re searchers took part in the seminar, which was sponsored by the Nordisk Forskerutdanningsakademi (NorFA) and hosted by the University of Tartu, Department of Journalism. This volume is a collection of articles based on papers originally pre sented at the seminar. Some of the essays are contributions by the profes sors who participated in the seminar as lecturers: Jan Ekecrantz from the University of Stockholm, Svennik Hoyer from the University of Oslo, and Kaarle Nordenstreng from the University of Tampere. Professor Marju Lauristin from the University of Tartu was course leader. Professor Nor man Fairclough (University of Lancaster) lectured on discourse analysis in media research. The essays in this volume provide an example of the topics and prob lems that are at the focus of attention in ongoing research; the essays demonstrate the current stage and quality of the studies in progress. The volume is so organized that the first few articles cover more general theme; the more detailed discussions that follow are clustered according to their themes (journalism, broadcasting, and media conversation analy sis). In this research-in-progress paper, we present a two-step approach to measure the impact of cultural values on organizational social media adoption. We build on the GLOBE framework to measure societal culture and the Competing Values Framework to measure organizational culture. We define organizational social media adoption as the use of social networking, blogs, and media sharing tools in order to communicate and collaborate with customers, partners, and organization members. Cultural values appear to be salient factors for the ongoing adoption of social media in organizations.

The article reports on findings from an anonymous online survey that investigates the functionality of two prominent review genres: book reviews and blurbs. Focusing on audience expectations regarding genre elements and trustworthiness, the study analyzes the results in the frame of the communicative situation involving the book's author, the review's author, and the reader. Three indicators are used for the purpose: the degree of criticism, proximity and trustworthiness. Results indicate that the book reviews are evolving, leading to decreased reader trust, whereas blurbs are perceived as more trustworthy due to their explicit promotional intent. Moreover, the research shows that critical evaluations are regarded as authentic primarily when they express negativity. A crucial factor in establishing trust is found to be the perceived proximity between the reader and the review author, in addition to the subjective proximity between the review and the book itself.

Cet article montre les résultats d’une enquête auprès de 35 professionnels de la donnée dans le but d’explorer leurs parcours, leur environnement professionnel et leurs perceptions de la profession après 3 ans de mise en vigueur du RGPD. À l’aide d’un logiciel d’analyse textuelle (Hyperbase) ainsi que par l’analyse de contenus des entretiens, qui cherche à « sociologiser les études sur le numérique », nous avons pu identifier des frontières poreuses quand il s’agit de décrire les limites du métier ; des définitions floues sur ce que c’est faire du big data ; et des rapports ambigus vis-à-vis du traitement de données personnelles.

e-Fungi aims to integrate sequence and functional data from multiple fungal species, to facilitate the systematic study of less well understood species with reference to model organisms. e-Fungi consists of a data warehouse and a library of bioinformatics queries and analyses, which can be combined in different ways to conduct studies of cellular processes, pathogenicity and evolution. Both the warehouse and analysis libraries will be made available within a service-oriented Grid.

This study aimed to identify the extent to which faculty members in the Faculty of Education at Taibah University Employ Web 0,2 technologies and its relationship to their knowledgemanagement processes. The descriptive correlational approach was used, and the study was applied to  13 members of the faculty at Taibah University. The study yielded several results: the use of Web 2.0 technologies came with a moderate degree. The degree of practice of knowledge generation came with a moderate degree, and the practice of disseminating, storing and retrieving knowledge came with a high degree. Moreover, the practice of knowledge sharing and its application came with a high degree. In addition, there was a statistically significant correlation relationship at a level of significance of (0.01) between the faculty members’ employment of Web 2.0 technologies and their knowledge management processes.

Questa tesi nasce dalla volontà di approfondire come il marketing emozionale sia diventato una leva fondamentale per la costruzione del valore di marca e della fidelizzazione, con un focus particolare sulla Generazione Z. L’approccio utilizzato è di tipo compilativo, basato sull’analisi e la rielaborazione di testi accademici, articoli scientifici e report di settore, per comprendere le dinamiche del marketing emozionale.
Per rendere più concreto lo studio, è stato scelto di analizzare il caso del brand Rhode Skin, fondato dall’imprenditrice e modella Hailey Bieber, un esempio attuale di come la costruzione di un’identità di marca fortemente emozionale possa portare a risultati economici e reputazionali rilevanti in tempi rapidi. Per analizzare questa seconda parte applicativa, sono stati utilizzati siti ufficiali, interviste, articoli di settore, dati di mercato e contenuti social.
L’elaborato è strutturato in quattro capitoli. Il primo approfondisce il concetto di emozione e il ruolo che ha nei processi decisionali dei consumatori, utilizzando le
principali tecniche di neuromarketing. Il secondo capitolo illustra le strategie di marketing emozionale, come storytelling, brand attachment, emotional advertising e
cause-related marketing. Il terzo capitolo affronta i principali rischi e le criticità etiche dell’uso delle emozioni nel marketing. Il quarto e ultimo capitolo è dedicato al caso pratico Rhode Skin, esplorando le strategie adottate per la costruzione della relazione emotiva con i consumatori e i risultati ottenuti.
L’obiettivo finale è comprendere come le emozioni possano rappresentare un potente strumento di differenziazione e posizionamento, oltre a mettere in evidenza quali sono i confini etici entro i quali operare.

This article critically examines the use of facial recognition technologies in Brazil and the United Kingdom, focusing on regulation and the impact on fundamental rights. The objective is to compare legal frameworks, institutional practices, and control models of these technologies in both countries. Using a genealogical-critical method, combined with documentary research and comparative analysis, the study reveals that while the UK has more consolidated regulatory guidelines, Brazil presents a fragmented and unregulated scenario, marked by significant private sector involvement and a lack of transparency. It concludes that the diffusion of surveillance and riskbased technopolitics pose urgent challenges to the protection of civil rights.

La biblioteca como una organización social se ve afectada en sus niveles organizativos ya que depende en la mayoría de los casos de una institución con una misión y visión propia. Simultáneamente se rige por principios teóricos y metodológicos bibliotecológicos que lo convierten en un sistema de información. En otro plano, los elementos intrasociales y extrasociales de una manera u otra modifican no solo el quehacer bibliotecario, sino también los planes de desarrollo bibliotecario, los programas particulares a implementar en los sistemas de bibliotecas y los procedimientos internos, para así contar con una organización dinámica y funcional, que brinde el acceso a la información que es demandada por los usuarios. Lograr una comunión entre los diversos niveles de organización y entre los elementos mencionados, lo transforma en una organización compleja. El objetivo que se persigue en este trabajo es revisar cuáles son las características de la biblioteca que la convierten una organización compleja; cuáles son las interrelaciones de la biblioteca con los elementos intrasociales y extrasociales identificados; y cómo se construye capital social en distintos núcleos de la sociedad a través del acceso a la información. This longitudinal ethnographic study involved a professional development project, Project Partnerships Achieve Literacy (Project PAL) in South Africa, with eight rural foundation phase teachers who taught Reception (kindergarten) through grade three (R-3). This Project was designed to support teachers in an under-resourced school as they learned strategic approaches to literacy teaching and learning with the aim to improve the reading achievement of their children. Located in aesthetics theory, researchers engaged teachers in aesthetic experiences, or experiences that were infused with the arts (art, drama, video, music, reader's theater), children's literature, and technology. Research questions were as follows: What can be learned from an aesthetic approach to professional development? What does engagement look like in aesthetic experiences in professional development? Do aesthetic experiences resonate with teachers and inform their instruction? Three findings emerged from an constant comparative analysis of classroom observations, interviews, teacher artifacts, researcher debriefs, video and audio recordings: 1) Feelings and the arts were significant in what and how teachers learned in professional development workshops; 2) Aesthetic experiences led to critical and democratic talk around professional development and issues of social importance; and 3) Aesthetic experiences informed teachers' in and out of classroom practice. Findings from this study suggest that professional development holds significant promise when it is sustained, imaginative, and relatable, and positions teachers to think differently about themselves as learners and teachers through aesthetic experiences. We suggest that drawing only from cognitive approaches and one-shot single-session professional development does not deeply address the qualities, feelings, emotions, and embodied responses that comprise the aesthetic experience in professional development, and argue for a deeper understanding of professional development, one in which aesthetic learning and experiences are central to teacher learning.

It is influenced by Halliday’s view of lexis and grammar as “complementary perspectives” (1991: 32), and his conception of the two as notional ends of a continuum (lexicogrammar), in that “if you interrogate the system grammatically you will get grammar-like answers and if you interrogate it lexically you get lexis-like answers” (1992: 64).

LxGr primarily welcomes papers reporting on corpus-based research on any aspect of the interaction of lexis and grammar — particularly studies that interrogate the system lexicogrammatically to get lexicogrammatical answers. Resumo: Apesar de permitir o acesso a quantidades inimagináveis de recursos, a Internet traz, na maior parte das vezes, grandes problemas em termos de selecção da informação, independentemente do tipo de utilizadores e dos objectivos que justifiquem a sua utilização. Na Escola, para fins educativos, uma das estratégias mais interessantes para ajudar os alunos a tirarem partido da riqueza de informação disponível são as WebQuests, também conhecidas, em língua portuguesa, por Aventuras na Rede. Muito embora sejam uma proposta de trabalho originalmente pensada para orientar os alunos na pesquisa, são bastantes os desafios que a sua concepção e desenvolvimento coloca também aos professores. Partindo das principais vantagens para os alunos, normalmente associadas à criação e utilização das WebQuests, pretende-se perspectivar também as suas potencialidades em termos dos próprios professores e da sua preparação para uma utilização mais esclarecida e crítica do uso do computador e da própria Internet para fins educativos. Embora permitindo o acesso a quantidades inimagináveis de recursos, a Internet traz-nos na maior parte das vezes grandes problemas em termos de selecção da informação disponível, qualquer que seja o objectivo que num determinado momento justifique a sua utilização. The curriculum renewal process itself ought to challenge existing long held ideals, practices, and sacred cows within the health and higher education sectors. There is much to consider and importantly curriculum developers need to be mindful of reform within the health sector and health workforce education, as well as the concomitant vision and requirements of the nursing profession. Curriculum must develop more than discipline knowledge and skills: it must provide an infrastructure for generic abilities both social and intellectual in order to better prepare students for the registered nurse role. This paper discusses a number of forces that are essential to consider in curriculum development in undergraduate nursing education.

Following several years in administration, I returned to teaching in 2010. My university has a strong commitment to technology in teaching and I share that commitment, but I was rusty. It seemed to me that if I wanted to stretch (and I did), I needed to start making use of social media. After considering some alternatives (Hunter & Austin, 2015), I concluded that building a course wiki would challenge my skills and those of my students. A wiki would also make it possible to maintain focus on the course content, which was “principles of learning.” I had not taught in this area for 20 years and I quickly realized how dramatically the field had changed.

This paper examines the uses of wikis in teaching in higher education. It was developed in support of a workshop offered at the Higher Education in Transformation conference in Dublin, Ireland, in March, 2015. The paper describes one author’s use of a wiki over a period of five years to support graduate students in their study of principles of learning, reviews some of the literature on educational applications of wikis and suggests directions for future research.

La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo evaluar la capacidad de los estudiantes de comunicación social de la Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos para valorar la credibilidad de noticias; así mismo, como objetivo específico es evaluar su capacidad por medio de la variable sexo, nivel de estudio y especialidad de la carrera. Acerca del método, fue de corte cuantitativo, alcance descriptivo, diseño no experimental y de tipo transversal, se usó dos noticias para la investigación, una falsa y otra real. This study aimed to assess the competencies of coaches in Area IV in Batangas province. This also sought to assess the level of competency of the teacher-coaches in terms of coaching experience, motivation, game strategy, technique, and character building. The researcher identified the constraints met by the respondents in developing coaching competencies. At the end of the study, the researcher was able to come up with a coaching activity that will enhance sports coaching. The study utilized the descriptive method of research with a researcher made questionnaire as the main instrument to gather data and focus group discussion to some of the coaches. The respondents of the study were the 67 secondary public school coaches handling athletics in Area IV Batangas Province. However, the analysis has mainly been based on British and American English, and differences can be expected if turn-taking is studied in varieties of English as suggested by anecdotal evidence. The present book, Conversation in World Englishes: Turn-taking and cultural variation in Southeast Asian and Caribbean English by Theresa Neumaier, sets out to fill this research gap by conducting an empirical analysis with the aim to describe, analyse, and compare turn-taking patterns in Caribbean and Southeast-Asian English face-to-face interactions. The major research questions are whether the turn-taking conventions in these two varieties correspond to those that have been established in previous work on turn-taking and whether there are differences between the varieties in terms of culture. The book contains eight chapters. Chapter 1 is the introduction where the author describes the aim of the book and states the research questions. In Chapter 2 the author provides an overview of Conversational Analysis (CA) and of the field of World Englishes catering for the needs of scholars in both traditions. Following Sacks et al.'s seminal article (1974), turn-taking is described as a two-part mechanism consisting of a turn-constructional and a turn-allocation component. The former deals with the construction of turn-constructional units (TUs) defined on the basis of syntactic completion and a variety of prosodic and lexico-semantic devices. The allocational component is split up into three hierarchically ordered rules describing how turn-taking is locally managed through techniques such as next-speaker selection, self-selection, and current speaker selection. Although there is some evidence that turn-taking strategies differ across languages, research on turn-holding and turn-claiming has only been carried out on few languages and "the question whether the turn-taking system might be culturally sensitive is still unanswered." (p. 10). World Englishes are chosen as the ideal candidates to display if "the turn-taking system is fine-tuned to local cultural preferences" (p. 12). If there are differences in the patterns between the varieties, they will be explained as culturally conditioned, and the patterns will be compared with regard to the cluster of context-sensitive features associated with each variety. One reason why CA and World Englishes have not been merged before has to do with "differences in their respective epistemologies" (p. 15). The CA approach calls for 'theoretical indifference' based on the observation that "anybody who looks for differences hard enough will eventually find them in the data" (p. 16). Combining "CA's fine-grained bottom-up analysis of interaction" with the study of World Englishes means that "only those contextual factors that show to be locally relevant for the interactants will be considered for the interpretation" (p. 17). Studies of World Englishes, on the other hand, are based
