This study examines the demographic and epidemiological transition of rape and suicide in Jamaica between 1970 and 2024, exploring how patterns of gender, age, region, and socioeconomic context have shaped the prevalence and characteristics of these public health and social issues. The analysis employed a mixed-methods design, integrating quantitative data from the Jamaica Constabulary Force, the Statistical Institute of Jamaica, and the Ministry of Health with qualitative insights from published research, policy documents, and regional comparative studies. Findings reveal a significant shift in both rape and suicide trends: rape incidents increased through the 1980s and 1990s before showing declines after 2010, coinciding with stronger legislative frameworks and advocacy, while suicide rates rose gradually across the decades, with higher prevalence among males and rural populations. Agespecific analysis demonstrates that younger females, particularly those aged 15-24, were disproportionately affected by rape, whereas suicide was most common among middle-aged and elderly males. Both phenomena were correlated with socioeconomic challenges, including unemployment, poverty, and community-level violence, underscoring structural determinants of vulnerability. Comparisons with global data indicate that Jamaica's rape and suicide trends reflect broader transitional patterns in low-and middle-income countries but are also influenced by unique historical and cultural factors. The study concludes that integrated approaches are needed, combining public health strategies, social support, and legislative reform to address the intersecting drivers of sexual violence and self-harm.

Against the propaganda that tries to legitimate the allocation of indigenous women, which used to spread the stories of favored “little Indians” happy in their captivity, different historical sources mention extreme needs, begging, submission, as well as rebelled individuals, successful and failed individual and group escapes, and at a larger scale, the fierce transgenerational fight to bring their people back together. In this case we analyze a suicide case, as well as cases of sexual abuse and exploitation. The main source for this paper is a file on a woman allocated at a personal residence in Buenos Aires who committed suicide. By contrasting her file with other documents, we learn the abuses these indigenous women were subjected to, the contradicting ideas around their motherhood at the public level and among the people promoting these allocations, and the existence of brothels these chinas were allocated to in the downtown area of the City of Buenos Aires in 1883.

En 1885 Pascual Coña formó parte de una comitiva de logko (líderes políticos mapuche) que viajó a Buenos Aires. Tenía entre otros el objetivo de pedir la libertad de algunas mujeres que habían sido capturadas por el ejército argentino durante la “Conquista del Desierto”. Antes de entrevistarse con el entonces presidente Julio A. Roca, los logko visitaron un domicilio cuyo propietario les presentó a una niña mapuche. Aportamos aquí algunos datos hasta ahora desconocidos sobre la identidad de los protagonistas y añadimos una reflexión sobre el mutismo de la niña presente en aquella ocasión.

Suicide among adolescents in Jamaica is a significant public health concern that extends beyond mortality statistics. Official death records suggest relatively low rates among individuals under 19 years; however, secondary data indicate that nearly one in four Jamaican adolescents report suicidal ideation, and approximately one in ten report suicide attempts. Gender differences are notable, with girls more likely to report ideation and boys more frequently using lethal methods such as hanging. Key risk factors include exposure to interpersonal violence, bullying, family instability, and poor sleep, while protective factors encompass parental support, school engagement, peer relationships, and community networks. Patterns of suicide methods reveal that ingestion of pharmaceuticals or pesticides predominates in non-fatal attempts, emphasising the role of access to means in shaping outcomes. Regional comparison demonstrates that Jamaica's adolescent suicide rate is moderate relative to Caribbean peers, yet rising trends, particularly among males, signal the need for urgent intervention. Schools emerge as critical sites for early detection and intervention, while community and faith-based networks provide protective support. Policy frameworks aligned with international guidelines, such as the WHO LIVE LIFE strategy, are essential to strengthen mental health services, promote evidence-based interventions, and implement culturally sensitive prevention strategies. Sustainable suicide prevention requires integrated approaches across clinical, educational, community, and policy domains. These findings underscore the hidden burden of adolescent suicidal behaviours in Jamaica and highlight opportunities for targeted, multi-level interventions to reduce morbidity and mortality.

Designing digital interaction for people facing the end-of-life at an early or middle adult life is a challenging task. The user, who may be a person of similar age, culture and social status as the designers, is nevertheless living in a reality nothing short of alien to them. For the designer, approaching the users and considering their circumstances – their reality is extremely stressful. A theoretical framework is built to help the designers. Two psychological theories that address the end-of-life have been fused together through the Grounded Theory paradigm. The first theory is the Erikson’s Stages of Psychosocial Development, focusing primarily on the ninth stage. The second theory is the Kübler-Ross’s Five Stages of Grief, taken in her original, non-sequential manner describing a person’s grief over their own demise (preparatory grief) rather than more general grief. Bu makale, depresyonu bireysel bir patoloji olarak değil; geç kapitalist düzenin görünürlük, üretkenlik ve hız rejimlerine karşı zihinsel bir duraksama, duygusal bir çatlak ve bilişsel bir direnç biçimi olarak ele alır. Guy Debord’un gösteri toplumu, Bernard Stiegler’in epistemik proleterya ve Franco Berardi’nin iletişimsel kapitalizm kavramları çerçevesinde, depresyonun yalnızca tedavi edilmesi gereken bir bozukluk değil, aynı zamanda sistemin dayattığı normatif zaman ve duygulanım rejimlerine karşı bireyin son savunma hattı olduğu öne sürülür. Este trabajo analiza los principios de salud preventiva propuestos por Maimónides -centrados en la alimentación y el ejercicio-y los confronta con evidencia científica actual. A través de una revisión temática, se destacan las recomendaciones de no comer hasta la saciedad, mantener una actividad física regular, respetar el orden y calidad de los alimentos, y ejercitarse de forma moderada. Estas normas simples y atemporales muestran una notable coherencia con los lineamientos de instituciones científicas modernas como la American Heart Association (AHA) y del American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). Se concluye que los consejos de Maimónides conservan una vigencia sorprendente, y que la integración entre ciencia y tradición puede ofrecer una base sólida para una vida saludable, más allá de modas o recomendaciones contradictorias.

The threat of death hung over every aspect of pirate life during the Golden Age of piracy. They threatened governors and governments who dared to capture, prosecute, and hang their fellow buccaneers. They threatened their victims for running away, for fighting back, or for hiding their money. They even threatened death on each other should any of them suggest leaving off their chosen course or for betraying their company. Even the iconic skull and crossbones "Jolly Roger" pirate flag was a visible, physical symbol of a threat of death: for victims it was a reminder that surrender may mean mercy, but resistance would be fatal; and for the Pirates themselves, a grim reminder that capture or failure could mean their end. Many pirate crews in the Golden Age took this menace of death to the extreme by threatening to blow up their ship to avoid the noose, promising to take prisoners and pirates, captives and captors, and gold and galleon to the bottom of the ocean, going "merrily to Hell together". Yet despite their boasts and despite embracing the symbols of death, when the time came to make good on their oaths, few of these crews took that final explosive step and fewer still succeeded. This paper examines twenty incidents from the Golden Age of piracy in which pirates or their victims threatened or attempted to blow up their ships and themselves to avoid capture. Witness statements, period newspaper accounts, and trial testimony reveal that the threat was frequent but the attempt was not. In the end it was often prevented by the pirates themselves after a change of heart, despite promising one another that they would "live & dye together".

Wyoming Unite: A Study of Suicide in Wyoming Wyoming Unite is an interdisciplinary thesis project that challenges the conventional clinical approach to studying suicide by employing art as a catalyst for open dialogue and understanding. This research is not your typical master's thesis paper. Theory in action is used in this body of work as it builds upon the frameworks of artivism, art as intervention, and insurgent aesthetics to act as social praxis. Art is framed as both a means of healing and a vehicle for activism, transformation, and suicide prevention. This research suggests that artivism can deepen engagement with emotional and psychological challenges while also serving as a powerful tool for community transformation and mobilization for suicide prevention. Through a series of paintings, collaborative photo portraits, and oral history interviews, Wyoming Unite centers on the experiences of survivors of suicide, offering them a platform to share their stories and break the stigma surrounding mental health. By exploring the intersection of Wyoming's rugged individualism, vast landscapes, and mental health struggles, this project invites viewers into a deeply personal and evocative exploration of resilience, hope, and the enduring human spirit. The thesis exhibition fosters compassionate dialogue through local partnerships, inviting audiences to confront suicide's realities while honoring Wyomingites' resilience and making the invisible visible. In this thesis, I argue how artivism and storytelling can tackle suicide prevention from a fresh new angle-outside clinical frameworks-breaking stigmas, connecting people and fostering open conversations about mental health, sparking lasting change and driving momentum for a more compassionate and connected future.

Türkiye'de tarih çalışmaları genellikle "büyük anlatılar" etrafında yoğunlaşmış olsa da son on yıllarda sosyal tarih ve kültür tarihi gibi alanlara odaklanan çalışmaların sayısında hızlı bir artış olduğu görülmektedir. Böylece akademik tarih literatüründe toplumsal ve kültürel yaşamın karanlıkta kalan pek çok yanı gün yüzüne çıkarılmaktadır. Ancak tarihçiliğimiz için bakir bir çalışma alanı olan intihar tarihi hala aydınlatılmayı bekleyen bir konudur. Türkiye tarihyazımındaki bu boşluğa karşın Batı tarihyazımında intihar hakkında kaleme alınmış pek çok eser bulunmaktadır. Avrupa tarihinde intihar davranışının izini süren temel çalışmalardan birisi George Minois tarafından kaleme alınmış olan İntiharın Tarihi: İstemli Ölüm Karşısında Batı Toplumu isimli çalışmadır. Bu yazıda intihar davranışının Antik Çağ'dan yirminci yüzyıla kadar Batı toplumundaki izini tarih metodolojisi çerçevesinde inceleyen bu eser değerlendirilmektedir.

This article describes the experience of General Sociology in Psychology Faculty in UNLP. It expresses the process of adaptation of contents of one of the classics of Sociology, Emile Durkheim -especially his work The Suicide- to the interests and the realities of the Psychology‟s today (2017-2018). Thus, within the framework of the adolescent suicides subject from a sociological and social perspective, the article links the teaching experience with the realization of a discussion that addressed this problem in an interdisciplinary approach.

Η περίοδος της βασιλείας των Πτολεμαίων στην Αίγυπτο χαρακτηρίζεται  έντονα από την επίδειξη πολυτέλειας, πλούτου και ευημερίας. Οι αρχαίες λογοτεχνικές πηγές μας αποκαλύπτουν μερικές από τις ιδιαίτερες προτιμήσεις των Πτολεμαίων: το κυνήγι ελεφάντων, τη συλλογή εξωτικών ζώων και αντικειμένων, την καταγραφή σπάνιων φαινομένων. Οι Πτολεμαίοι επιδίωκαν να επικοινωνήσουν τα εξωτικά τους ενδιαφέροντα με το κοινό, κυρίως μέσω της ετήσιας διοργάνωσης της Μεγάλης  Πομπής ή της δημιουργίας ενός ζωολογικού και βοτανικού κήπου στην Αλεξάνδρεια.  Με τον τρόπο αυτό, τα ξένα πολιτιστικά ερεθίσματα ενός κόσμου μέχρι τότε  ανεξερεύνητου ενσωματώνονταν στην ελληνική κουλτούρα, διαμορφώνοντας ένα νέο  πολιτιστικό και κοινωνικό πλαίσιο.  Με βάση αντιπροσωπευτικά αποσπάσματα, η ανακοίνωση επικεντρώνεται στη διπλή λειτουργία της συλλογής παραδόξων, αφενός, ως μέσου κατανόησης του πολιτισμού του «άλλου» - «διαφορετικού» και, αφετέρου, ως μέσου επίδειξης της κυριαρχίας των Πτολεμαίων επί των μη ελληνικών πολιτισμών. Τα
συμπεράσματα της ανακοίνωσης θα αναδείξουν την ενσωμάτωση των φαινομένων που αποκλίνουν από την κανονικότητα στη σφαίρα του ελληνιστικού πολιτισμού.

The book presents the dominant problem of the hinterland during World War I., the components of the development of food supply, based primarily on the records of the Public Food Department of the Municipality of Budapest, preserved in the Budapest City Archives and the contemporary press. In addition to the everyday struggles of the population, the reader is introduced to the multi-faceted tasks of the authorities, such as central distribution and the establishment of the rationing system.

In the years before the World War, Budapest had a network of public food supply institutions and factories under municipal control that was unique in the world. That was because Budapest, although the Capital City of an agrarian state, was experiencing a high rate of food price increases, forcing a growing number of city dwellers to cut back on their consumption. During that period, agricultural exports increased at the
expense of internal consumption, and Budapest did not receive extra goods to match its growing population. Despite rapid urban growth, there was no solvent demand with the purchasing power to stimulate the development of a capital-intensive wholesale trade specialised in supplying the capital city, so foodstuffs were instead channelled to the
markets of the other half of the dual Monarchy.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Budapest already had public slaughterhouses, market halls, a food inspection institute and a livestock market. A new level of active intervention in the economic process was marked by the establishment of the ‘Municipal Horse Meat Works’ in 1905, the ‘Municipal Bakery’ in 1909 and the ‘Communal Food Sales Company’ in 1911, unique in the period. The existence of those pioneering and, despite the initial difficulties, successful enterprises, was justified by history within a decade since, following the outbreak of the World War, the situation of the inhabitants of Budapest was relatively fortunate compared to that of the inhabitants of other European cities. The establishment of that network was a significant step not only because it enabled the Capital City to control a relatively large proportion of the foodstuffs arriving in Budapest (both in terms of the supply of the commodity base and of food
and health), but also because the municipality had already begun to produce long before the war. It was true not only for the Monarchy, but for all the states that switched to a restrictive economy during the World War, that the governments’ public food policy had failed to improve the food supply of the population beyond the function of collection and distribution, by producing new crops. Budapest, on the other hand, created something unique in its scale and volume.

The book focuses on the role of the Municipality of Budapest in the field of food supply. It provides an insight into the general issues and international context of the subject, the causes and course of the commodity shortages, and answers questions such
as why price increases could not be stopped by price capping or how effective the requisitions were. What was the role of the price control bodies and how did they operate, and what role did the new centralised forms of procurement play in supplying the population?

The volume deals in detail with the issue of the supply of cereals and flour to the population. A separate chapter discusses the meat situation, the reasons for the different price rises for beef and pork, and what the municipality’s management did, or could do, to reduce the price of meat. One of the main issues of wartime food policy was of course fat, which explains the strong official drive to regulate the pig trade, while the specific
economic role of the municipality was also manifested in, for example, independent fattening campaigns and efforts to introduce alternative fat types. Milk production declined dramatically during the years of the war, so milk shortage not only led to the introduction of milk certificates, but also to the municipality’s efforts to maintain its own dairy herd. The most important step in the milk issue was the establishment of the ‘Milk Office’ and the foundation of a new public enterprise, the ‘Fővárosi Tejcsarnok
Rt.’ (Budapest Milk Hall Ltd.) and the book also describes the steps taken to establish a national milk collection system, as well as the situation of milk distributors.

The topic of public food supply includes the presentation of the wartime difficulties faced by restaurants, catering stands and confectioners, as well as other forms of public catering. A longer chapter describes the factors that influenced the functioning of the market hall system, which also changed during the war. The controversial role and
situation of the market vendors are also discussed. During the war, Budapest continued to develop its existing public food factories, and also set up new public works to improve the supply of the population, such as the ‘Municipal Vegetable Plant’ and the ‘Kitchen Garden Farm’.

Thanks to its rich source material, the monograph adds many vivid details to the chronicle of Budapest’s everyday life during the World War. It is therefore an exciting read for both those interested both in the history of the Budapest and in the First World War.

Jason David Frank who committed suicide at the age of 49. He
was said to be a Christian and also a founder of Christian
clothing line named MMA clothing and fight gear line called
Jesus Didn't Tap. The question which should first be ask can you
be a believer in Christ and struggle with thoughts of wanting to
die? And the answer is yes.

In this text, we would like to discuss the way in which the relationship between the conceptions of divinity and mortality is reformulated in the final scene of Euripides’ Heracles. This entails a transformation of the virtues by which the hero decides to live at the end of the play. First, we will discuss the traditional heroic virtues and how they are reshaped in Heracles. Next, we will examine the relationship with the traditional conception of divinity as it is presented in Greek tragedy in general and in the work of Euripides in particular. For this, we will draw a parallel between Republic II and its criticism of the poetic representation of gods and of death and the way in which suicide is understood in this piece and in Greek tragedy in general. In this way, we will argue that, contrary to the usual accusation of atheism against Euripides, this play argues in favor of a more human virtue, which does not deny the gods but emphasizes the value of human philia.

The territorial palimpsest is a dynamic system of
relatonships evolving over tme that has seen
natural elements interact with those built by
man. If, on the one hand, it is therefore possible
to read the territory as an architectural construc-
ton, on the other hand, we have those econom-
ic, natural, and social forces that have infuenced
the events that transformed the palimpsest. The
method of archaeological analysis of the territo-
ry proposed by Ignasi de Solà-Morales helps to
understand how both collectve processes and
the radical formatve actons exercised by power
have contributed to modifying a place through-
out its history. The case of the area of the Sanc-
tuary of Hercules Victor and Villa d’Este in Tivoli
is exemplary in illustratng how a territory highly
characterized from a geomorphological point of
view has infuenced the urban transformatons
that have taken place since ancient tmes, main-
taining traits of contnuity with the previous
stratgraphies. In this sense, the archaeological
level has played a fundamental role in establish-
ing the genealogical link between the territory
and the transformatons that have overlapped
subsequently. In partcular, Villa d’Este is both an
example of architectural creatvity and an exer-
cise of power that is grafed onto the territory
in contnuity with setlement practces despite
its high-sounding transforming force. The study
proposed here intends to rework both the invari-
ants and the modifcatons of the morphological
structure of the study area by associatng them
with the type of force that generated them. The
aim is to highlight the relatonship between ar-
chitecture, heritage and local resources with the
possibility of making hypothesis for future pro-
cesses of territorial transformaton in contnuity
with the ways in which the previous ones has al-
ready have already taken place over tme.

This article describes the experience of General Sociology in Psychology Faculty in UNLP. It expresses the process of adaptation of contents of one of the classics of Sociology, Emile Durkheim -especially his work The Suicide- to the interests and the realities of the Psychology‟s today (2017-2018). In the Middle Ages, people expressed their social differences, positions and roles as well as religious affinities in various ways. One of them was the use of seals, and the present article analyses four recent finds of medieval seal matrices from Finland. Three belong to priests, and based on the use of heraldry, one to a member of the nobility. In terms of materials, one is of silver and the rest bronze alloys. As objects of identity performance, medieval matrices, archival sources permitting, can open large vistas on the genealogical networks of medieval society as well as individuality in medieval culture.

The article presents the results of mineralogical and petrographic studies of granitoids used to create samples of monumental sculpture and details of a tomb from the Early Bronze Age, discovered in burial mounds near the Lower Psel River and the banks of the Sukhyi Kobeliachok River in the vicinity of Horishni Plavni, Poltava District. These artifacts are part of the collection of the local lore open-air museum (skansen).
The research provides insights into the materials and origins of the stone used for these ancient structures, contributing to a deeper understanding of the region's archaeological and historical heritage.

Ibn Battuta, the famous traveler of the 14 th Century who is celebrated all over the world for his travelogue "The Gift for Viewers: Curiosities of Cities and Wonders of Travel'' where he described the cultural practice of Sati in India. During his travels in Malabar and Delhi, he witnessed the process of Sati and made a detailed description of how some widows were burnt at the funeral of their husbands. This study will examine Ibn Battuta's observations and descriptions to identify the contexts that could establish such a cruel practice of Sati from a viewpoint of the structuralism theory.

Lena Schützle, born in 1991, works as a research associate at the chair for intercultural social transformation and the Center for Social and Development Studies at Hochschule für Philosophie München. Her research focuses on the phenomenology of compassion, epistemic injustice and violence, and transformative research. Barbara Schellhammer, born in 1977, is a professor for intercultural social transformation and head of the Center for Social and Development Studies at Hochschule für Philosophie München. Her research focuses on peace and reconciliation as well as intercultural and transformative philosophy from the margins.

In this cross-sectional retrospective study aiming to assess the profile and dynamics of drug misuse over the past
5 years in the Ryazan region, the reports of the chemical-toxicological laboratory of the Ryazan State Narcological
Dispensary (for the years 2019–2023), case histories of patients with poisoning by narcotic substances (for the years
2022–2023) and data of death records of drug poisonings (for the years 2019–2023) have been analyzed. The total
number of positive drug samples was found to have increased 1.5 times (with a peak in 2022). There is a trend towards
the decline of synthetic cannabinoids, with methadone taking its place. Synthetic cathinones account for about
1/3 of all samples, natural cannabinoids for about 1/4. Only 1/3 of patients with suspected drug poisoning receive
laboratory confirmation of the narcotic etiology of intoxication. Every other one of the confirmed cases was taking
methadone, so naloxone can be recommended to all patients in the early stages of therapy. The total number of deaths
from drug intoxication equals 0.2% of all deaths. Among those who died, as among those who were poisoned, more than
90% were middle-aged men, and methadone and synthetic cathinones dominated among the causes identified.
