This article presents a stratigraphical and typological study, contextualizing the deposits within Crete and beyond. Reframing previous opinions on hoarding at Knossos, these analyses provide three new insights: first, they identify unintentional and intentional depositions of bronze objects; second, they emphasize that the intentional depositions (hoards) include the same vessel types seen in LM II-IIIA funerary depositions in Crete and the mainland; third, they suggest that these hoards are not Neopalatial, but rather Final Palatial.

The study examines the question of whether there is a connection between the Early Bronze Age Glazkovo Culture in Cis-Baikal and the Late Bronze and Early Iron Age burial traditions. For this purpose, first of all, the relationship between the Glazkovo Culture and the Neolithic Period cultures was tried to be revealed in the light of both archaeological data and genetic connections. The Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age were studied only on burial traditions and some grave goods. In this context, it has been questioned whether Glazkovo and the Butukhe burial tradition, which is considered to be related to it, contributed to the formation of the Elga burial tradition. Since there is not enough data about the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age, a short evaluation has been made on the known data of them in the study.

A chapter in the catalogue of the exhibition dedicated to a Chinese porcelain dish from the Al Thani Collection (Qatar) at the State Hermitage Museum. The chapter focuses on the object’s history in Iran and its owner, the Safavid princess Mahin-Banu.

The Sadd al‐Bint is one of the largest known ancient dams in Saudi Arabia, and yet, its construction date, function and collapse
remained uncertain. This study presents the first numerical chronology for the dam, integrating radiocarbon dating, Bayesian
modelling, geomorphological analysis and hydrological modelling to reconstruct its history. Results indicate a multiphase
construction, with initial building between 596 and 686 CE, followed by repairs or extensions between 725 and 907 CE, and a
final maintenance phase between 947 and 1015 CE. Structural and sedimentological evidence suggests that the dam's collapse
was not due to poor engineering but rather prolonged lack of maintenance, leading to progressive infiltration until a sudden
hydrological event triggered failure. Hydrological reconstructions confirm a maximum reservoir capacity of 12 million m³,
potentially supporting extensive irrigation at nearby al‐Thamad oasis. The study brings new insights on the dating of Arabian
dams, perhaps its most challenging issue, demonstrating a major hydraulic investment during the Rashidun and Umayyad
periods and its continuity into the Abbasid period. The dam's strategic location and its role in regional water management
suggest a broader state‐driven infrastructure policy in early Islamic Arabia. These findings enhance our understanding of longterm
water management strategies in northwestern Arabia and their socio‐political implications.

This paper examines the health benefits and environmental sustainability of storing and consuming drinking water in clay pots, an ancient practice experiencing renewed interest in modern times. Through analysis of scientific literature, this study demonstrates that clay pot water storage offers significant advantages over conventional plastic bottles and modern storage methods. Clay pots provide natural cooling, water purification, mineral enrichment, and pH alkalization while maintaining zero environmental impact through biodegradable materials and energy-free operation. The research reveals that clay stored water can improve hydration quality, support digestive health and contribute to sustainable living practices without compromising water safety standards.

Nell'ambito del territorio dell'antica Veio (solo in parte compreso nel Parco archeologico-naturalistico di cui si parla da anni, ma che stenta a decollare) il Tumulo di Monte Aguzzo costituisce l'emergenza monumentale e visiva di maggiore spicco. Non sorprende pertanto che dall'unica tomba in esso contenuta provengano due reperti eccezionali: l'olpe Chigi, massimo documento della ceramografia protocorinzia, citato e riprodotto in tutti i manuali di arte greca, e l'anforetta di bucchero «rivestita» di iscrizioni, tra le quali due alfabetari, un testo di dono e una firma di artefice, che ne fanno un documento tra i più preziosi dell'epigrafia etrusca di vii secolo a.C. La monografia che ho il piacere di presentare, opera collettanea di più studiosi, curata da Laura M. Michetti e Iefke van Kampen, dà conto di tutto quello che oggi possiamo sapere sulla scoperta della tomba, avvenuta nel 1882, sul suo corredo, già appartenuto alla Collezione Chigi e ora per la prima volta interamente pubblicato, e sulle tombe «minori» messe in luce nel comparto topografico del Monte e delle sue adiacenze, dalle quali provengono i restanti reperti della Collezione Chigi e quelli conservati presso Palazzo Chigi di Ariccia. Un'anticipazione della materia trattata è stata data dagli stessi autori della monografia, assieme a Gilda Bartoloni, nel convegno internazionale L'Olpe Chigi. Storia di un agalma, tenuto presso l'Università di Salerno nel giugno 2010, i cui atti sono apparsi nel 2012 a cura di Eliana Mugione. Da parte mia vorrei sottolineare anzitutto la particolare situazione topografica di Monte Aguzzo. Esso si trova nel settore settentrionale dell'agro veiente, laddove l'itinerario proveniente da Narce e da Falerii entrava, a circa 3 miglia e mezzo dalla città, in quello che, sul modello romano, si può definire l'ager antiquus di Veio. Tanto la mitistoria -Halesus progenitore del re di Veio Morrius (Servio Dan.) -quanto lo studio del popolamento protostorico della regione -l'agro falisco tributario assieme al capenate del processo formativo della comunità villanoviana di Veio (di Gennaro) -additano l'itinerario in questione come della massima importanza per le fasi più antiche della città. Importanza non venuta meno nel vii- vi secolo, quando i Veienti, forse guidati proprio dai signori di Monte Aguzzo, percorrono a ritroso quell'itinerario, facendo di Narce e dintorni una sorta di «provincia» rimasta a lungo etruscofona (CIE 8899-8906). D'altra parte l'arrivo dell'olpe Chigi denota non solo il prestigio goduto dai signori di Monte Aguzzo ma anche la perdurante apertura di Veio ai contatti marittimi, già ampiamente dimostrata dalle ceramiche geometriche importate e imitate nella città, in stretta simbiosi con Roma, fin dalla prima metà dell'viii secolo. Apertura resa possibile dall'utilizzo comune della via fluviale del Tevere, venuto meno col regno di Anco Marcio, che estese il territorio romano sulla destra del fiume, con l'aiuto militare del futuro Tarquinio Prisco, fino alle saline veienti e a Fiumicino. The Caria region, located in south-western Anatolia, has had a rich history and cultural texture from ancient times
until the Roman Empire. Ionia and Lydia are located to the north and Lycia to the east. Euromos, located in the
Carian region, is located on the road connecting coastal Caria to inland Caria. The ancient city of Euromos,
located in the Selimiye neighbourhood of the Milas district of Muğla, was inhabited from the Late Geometric
Period until the Byzantine Period. In 2013, excavations in the South Necropolis revealed a monumental grave
complex and graves around it. Forty-five individuals were recovered from the graves dating from the Late
Geometric Period to the Roman Period. The skeletons are in poor state of preservation. Of the 45 individuals, 9
were infants, 10 were children, 11 were females and 14 were males. The sex of one adult individual could not be
determined. The community consists of 42.2 percent infants and children and 57.8 percent adults. Trepanation,
lesions and fractures due to cultural deformation, infectious diseases such as periostitis and osteomyelitis, porotic
hyperostosis and cribra orbitalia, which are indicators of blood diseases, were observed in the Euromos
community. The average height of the community was calculated as 154.78 for females and 166.36 for males. In
general, Euromos has a high infant and child mortality rate among the Caria communities. The average life
expectancy is also lower than the other communities. In addition, the high rates of infection and anemia in the
group indicate that Euromosans live a stressful life.

The excavations at Stanwick, Northamptonshire, were carried out by Historic England in advance of gravel extraction. Trenching covered over thirty hectares and the resulting assemblage of finds and bioarchaeological material remains the largest archaeological collection from the county. The fieldwork revealed a prehistoric ritual landscape and field systems succeeded by rural settlement dating from the early Iron Age through the Romano-British period. Activity at the villa continued into the fifth century AD. The site produced a nationally significant assemblage of 12 Iron Age and 3,730 Roman coins. This report places this assemblage within its wider landscape context building of the assessment published by the author in Research Report Series 37-2021. This is undertaken utilising a new corpus of almost 500,000 Roman coins recorded from Roman sites across Britain which stemmed from this initial research into the environs of Raunds (Henry, 2023a; Henry, 2024).

Literary movements are generally shaped by the historical events preceding and/or occurring during their establishment. Features of an author's society find their way through a literary work and lie between the lines, even when not intended by the author. H. G. Wells' The War of The Worlds (1898) is a vivid example of this type. The novel is written during a time when The British Empire has invaded several countries. Thus, the idea of colonization has filled the British people with invasion and its consequences. The difference, however, is highlighted by Wells through depicting a reverse colonization of England by aliens from Mars. The Martins' representation portrays the justifications which imperialists and their proponents used in order to moralize and authenticate their actions .

Öz Güneybatı Anadolu'da bulunan Karia bölgesi, antik çağlardan Roma İmparatorluğu'na kadar zengin bir tarihe ve kültürel dokuya sahip olmuştur. Kuzeyinde İonia ve Lydia, doğusunda ise Lykia yer almaktadır. Karia bölgesinde bulunan Euromos, kıyı Karia'sını iç Karia'ya bağlayan yol üzerinde yer almaktadır. Günümüzde Muğla, Milas ilçesinin Selimiye Mahalle sınırları içinde yer alan Euromos Antik Kenti, Geç Geometrik Dönemden Bizans Dönemi'ne kadar kesintisiz bir biçimde yerleşim görmüştür. 2013 yılında Güney Nekropolünde yapılan kazılarda Anıt mezar kompleksi ve çevresinde mezarlar tespit edilmiştir. Geç Geometrik Dönemden Roma dönemine kadar süreklilik gösteren mezarlardan 45 birey ele geçirilmiştir. İskeletlerin korunma durumları kötüdür. 45 bireyin 9'u bebek, 10'u çocuk, 11'i kadın ve 14'ü erkektir. Bir erişkin bireyin ise cinsiyeti tespit edilememiştir. Topluluğun %42,2'si bebek ve çocuk, %57,8'i erişkin bireylerden oluşmaktadır. Euromos topluluğunda trepanasyon, kültürel deformasyondan kaynaklı lezyonlar ve kırıklar, periostitis ve osteomyelit gibi enfeksiyonel rahatsızlıklar ve kan hastalıklarının birer göstergesi olan porotic hyperostosis ve cribra orbitalia gözlenmiştir. Topluluğun ortalama boy uzunluğu ise kadınlarda 154,78 cm, erkeklerde 166,36 cm olarak hesaplanmıştır. Genel olarak bakıldığında Karia toplulukları içinde Euromos bebek ve çocuk ölümlülüğü bakımından yüksek bir oran vermektedir. Ortalama ömür uzunluğu da diğer topluluklara oranla daha düşüktür. Ayrıca toplulukta enfeksiyon ve anemi hastalıklarının yüksek oranlarda olması Euromoslular'ın stresli bir yaşam sürdüklerini göstermektedir.

The Yakut Method is a pottery-making technique that has been used since archaic times and is still used today by the Yakut and Shor Turks. This study identifies the "paddle and anvil" method in the region between the Yenisei and Lena Rivers in Siberia and shows how it evolved into the Yakut Method over time. It also proves that this method has been continuously used in different cultures. In the Early Neolithic period, almost all pottery vessels in the region between the Yenisei and Lena Rivers were made using "knocking out" method, a variant of the paddle and anvil method. The knocking out method, later spread to the Sayan-Altai region and reached Western

The site of Çuka e Ajtoit is strategically located on an imposing hill overlooking the Pavla and Kalamas valleys a few kilometers from the present Greek-Albanian border. It is the main site of ancient Cestrine, the coastal region of ancient Epirus between Chaonia and Thesprotia. The site, noted since the beginning of the last century, is mainly known as a fortified center of the Hellenistic period, characterized by an imposing wall circuit
reinforcing the natural defenses of the impervious hillside. Since 2021, a new joint project between Sapienza University of Rome and the Albanian Institute of Archaeology has been active at Çuka e Ajtoit, aiming to shed
new light on the history and reconstruction of the site from a diachronic perspective. After systematic surveys during the first campaigns, excavation trenches in significant sectors of the site have been opened since 2022. Prominent among these is the so-called Palace, an imposing extra-urban complex along
the western slopes of the hill. This structure, consisting of multiple rooms and large open courtyards and already investigated by previous excavations, has traditionally been interpreted as a public building, a prytaneion, or a place related to the management of food commodities. Ongoing researches — both the updated survey of the site’s structures and excavations — increasingly delineate instead the complexity of its nature. In particular, 2023 excavations uncovered some stratigraphic contexts related to the abandonment of a Hellenistic nearby place of worship (3rd-mid-2nd century BCE). Based on the material it contained, its amount and characteristics, this deposit seems to be related to a public sacred space, rather than to domestic worship. The corpus of material is notable for the abundant presence of fragments of terracotta figurines, some even intentionally deposited in a cavity in the wall of the investigated structure. They are associated mainly with black-glazed pottery, together with other
ceramic classes (amphorae, coarse and common pottery). The paper focuses on ceramics from this deposit in relation to their specific context of discovery. When considered against the background of the repertoire of the regional Hellenistic pottery, some shapes found in the deposit are noteworthy for being attested elsewhere only in sacred or funerary contexts, or for the specific ritual use they may have had in sacred contexts. Moreover, many fine ware fragments, although attributable to a local production on the basis of their technical features, are distinguished from the regional morphological repertoire by some variants, details, and decorations not otherwise attested. Starting from the analysis of the votive pottery from the deposit found at Çuka e Ajtoit, the paper therefore aims to investigate the hypothesis of a local production specifically intended for sacred contexts, in an attempt to contribute to a better understanding of the material culture of this part of ancient Epirus.

Ceramics with 'corded ornamentation' became widespread in multiple cultural complexes on the territory of Ukraine in the 5 th and 3 rd mill. BC [Fig. 1, 5, Kotova. . . , in this volume; Fig. 1, Burdo, Videiko. . . , in this volume]. This research programme alone covered eight cultural complexes: from the Trypillia and the Sredniy Stog to the Yamnaya communities. This contribution interrogates the binary frameworks that traditionally underpin the analysis of tableware and
transport amphorae from the Late Hellenistic and Early Roman periods. Particular attention is given to ceramic
artifacts that, contrary to previous assumptions, cannot be confidently attributed to specific production centres,
but instead appear to result from manufacturing practices spread across multiple areas of the Mediterranean. By adopting an intersectional approach inspired by queer theory, the research moves beyond traditional typological
and stylistic classifications, questioning the rigid categories that dominate the study of ancient ceramics. The aim is
to propose new interpretations of ancient commercial networks and production contexts, challenging established
binary structures and opening up the discourse to the complexity and fluidity in the locations and workshops that
produced ceramics in the ancient world.

Il volume offre un’analisi approfondita degli aspetti tecnologici, morfologico-funzionali e crono-tipologici del vasellame ceramico rinvenuto nel sito di Monte Bibele.
La rara opportunità di confrontare i manufatti provenienti dalla necropoli di Monte Tamburino con quelli del relativo insediamento di Pianella di Monte Savino ha permesso di formulare osservazioni significative sulla selezione e sull'uso del vasellame ceramico in entrambi i contesti. La ricerca ha confermato che la facies ceramica di Monte Bibele è pienamente etrusco-italica. Mancano totalmente fogge riferibili alla tradizione celtica transalpina, anche nei corredi di Monte Tamburino con armamento latèniano. Le analisi archeometriche hanno inoltre evidenziato che la maggior parte dei vasi è prodotta localmente. Infine, lo studio crono-tipologico del vasellame di Monte Tamburino ha consentito di affinare le datazioni di diversi tipi ceramici, fornendo nuovi riferimenti e spunti di ricerca per lo studio della ceramica dell’Italia centro-settentrionale tra il IV e il III secolo a.C.

In the 2012 campaign have been explored five of the six small huts of the village, while the sixth (hut no. 2), entirely excavated in previous campaigns, has been the object of limited tests outside. In the hut 1, current excavation has brought to light a floor of rough stones of medium and small size, in which is embedded a small quadrangular stone structure, perhaps a hearth (?).The hut 3, also quadrangular, had a similar hearth made on the floor, and another elliptical structure realized with orthostatic stones partially sunken in a central area of the hut (a grave?). The hut 4, only partially preserved, also shows the presence of a small quadrangular structure of stones sunken below the floor level. The huts 5 and 6, contiguous, showed the presence of a pavement stones arranged with a certain care; in the hut 6 is present a probable posthole in a central position, while in the hut 5 has been brought to light the usual quadrangular stone structure sunken below the floor level. This paper focuses on the scientific characterisation of the copper-based archaeometallurgical materials found in the Recent Bronze Age layers (1350-1200 cal. BC) of the Nuragic site of Bia 'e Palma /Via Atene at Selargius (Sardinia). The characterisation of these materials was carried out using pXRF and SEM-EDS. The elemental compositions show the use of tin bronze alloys and arsenical copper. It was also possible to establish that one object (a bent awl) was produced out of a fahlore mineral with high nickel. Despite its singularity, the isotopic composition of this item was consistent with Southwestern Sardinian minerals. The co-smelting slag nodule analysed is also another exceptional case in the Nuragic archaeological record documenting local bronze production.

This study details an archaeological rescue excavation at a cemetery (BYB 418) located east of the ancient city of Byblos. The site contained 131 tombs dating from the 1st to the 5th century AD, which were found in an unstable clay layer. The burials included bodies placed in simple pits, stone sarcophagi, or stone-lined tombs often constructed with recycled stones from older graves. The research revealed a notable contrast between the simple burial methods and the rich funerary artifacts, which included items made of gold, silver, glass, and bone. The findings also include a brief osteological assessment of the skeletal remains and an analysis of the artifacts, such as pottery, glass, bone, decorated bronze vessel handles, and coins.

Türkiye'nin sonderece gereksinim duyduğu ve şimdiye kadar sadece batı ve kuzeybatıda (istanbul, Bilecik, Zonguldak) olduğu saptanan ateş kili (fireclay) sahalarına ek olarak orta Anadolu'da, Çankırı'da önemli ve büyük ateş kili sahaları bulunmuştur. Orta derecede ateşe dayanıklı olan killerle beraber bentonlt ve düşiük derecede ateşe dayanıklı niteliğindeki killerde bu oluşum İçindedir, Volkanik sahalara bağlı olarak organik maddelerle beraber üst miyosen'de çökelen killerden oluşan Korgun sahasının detay etüdleri iki yıldan beri devam etmektedir. Âteş killeri başta İngiltere olmak üzere bir çok ülkenin sanayiinde Önemli bir yeri olup aynı zamanda da büyük bir döviz kaynağıdır. Bu nedenle, Çankırı'da saptanan ateş kili sahaları orta anadoluyu ateş kili yönünden önemli bir sanayi bölgesi haline getirebilir.

U ovom su radu predstavljeni rezultati analize litičkog skupa nalaza iz špilje Zale koji je otkriven tijekom sustavnih istraživanja. Litički skup nalaza pripada kasnom gornjem paleolitiku i mezolitiku. Nekoliko artefakata pronađeno je u brončanodobnim slojevima, ali vjerojatno pripadaju mezolitiku. Između kasnoga gornjeg paleolitika i mezolitika vidljive su očite i značajne razlike u tehnologiji i tipologiji kamenih izrađevina kao i u iskorištavanju sirovine. Korištena sirovina ukazuje na razgranatu mrežu kontakata lovaca skupljača iz Zale s bližim i daljim područjima. Uočene razlike mogle bi biti rezultat promijenjene uloge Zale u sustavu naseljavanja ili tehnološke prilagodbe na iskorištavanje sirovine lošije kvalitete tijekom mezolitika. Tehno–tipološka obilježja litičkih skupova nalaza iz Zale pokazuju brojne sličnosti s kasnoglacijalnim i ranim postglacijalnim industrijama s drugih nalazišta na istočnom Jadranu i u njegovu zaleđu. Kasnogornjopaleolitički boravak, prema dosada raspoloživim podacima, predstavljao bi inicijalnu fazu gornjopaleolitičkog naseljavanja jadranskog zaleđa u kojem je smještena Zala.

Vorganjska peć is an important prehistoric cave site located on the slope of Organ hill above Batomalj near Baška on the island of Krk. The research of this site, as well as other cave sites on Kvarner islands, was initiated by Vladimir Mirosavljević in the mid-twentieth century. As the result of his research, Vorganjska peć, alongside Jami na Sredi on the island of Cres and Vela špilja on the island of Lošinj, became a significant
source of data about the Neolithic of the Kvarner region and thereby an essential part of discussions about this period on the eastern Adriatic coast. Since this research was never fully published, the site was re-excavated in order to review previously obtained data about the cave usage in prehistory. The research results provided insight into the stratigraphic sequence of intact prehistoric archaeological deposits with Early and
Middle Neolithic finds. The analysis of stratification and artefacts contributes to our knowledge of complex mechanisms of neolithisation of the eastern Adriatic and confirms the undeniable informative and interpretative significance of the site in the studies of the northern Adriatic Neolithic.

This paper presents the results from an archaeological excavation at the Neolithic site of Rašinovac, near Ždrapanj in the Piramatovci Valley (in the hinterland of the town of Skradin in Northern Dalmatia). This previously unknown site was test excavated in 2013 when a 2x2-metre trench was opened to determine the site’s stratigraphy and chronology. Excavations suggested that Rašinovac was a single-layer open-air settlement and subsequent analyses of the material culture (mostly pottery and chert)
confirmed that it was an Impressed Ware site. Two radiocarbon dates also reveal that Rašinovac is among the earliest known Early Neolithic sites in the region (first century of the 6th millennium BC).

The article describes the first results of a digital project dedicated to the preservation and systemization in the form of a dataset of crumbling reindeer rock carvings in the valley of the Pegtymel River for subsequent data development by other researchers. The collection, processing and cataloging of reindeer images were carried out, methodological aspects of clustering of features for the classification of reindeer were determined. The authors also attempt to solve the scientific problem of cultural clusters identification of Pegtymel petroglyphs based on the style of depiction of reindeer: by dates of creation, belonging to culture and people, differentiation of individual style and a single typology.

During the first century and a half of its history, archaeology had to rely on surviving objects – for example, jewellery items, weapons, and other tools – in drawing conclusions on the life of prehistoric people, since no
written sources are known from this historical period. Therefore, expanding and enhancing knowledge of one-time people and events by utilising state-of-the-art methods of contemporary sciences represents an exceptional opportunity for archaeology today. New branches emerged from the close collaboration of diverse disciplines. One of them is bioarchaeology, a science similar to forensics (more precisely, crime scene investigation) in many respects, and sharing its main data source: human remains. When completed with behavioural scientific, environmental, and social aspects, this study allows for the biosocial evaluation of archaeological remains, thanks to which one-time people, and not only their bare skeletons, can be the subject of research. This complex approach is adopted in this book: We look at history through a magnifying glass to bring the reader closer to the first half of the two thousand-year-long Bronze Age (2500–800 BC) in the Carpathian Basin. Who they were and how they lived emerges from reconstructed micro-histories of individuals dwelling in the territory of modern-day Hungary sometime during the thousand years after the 26th century BC and before the time of the Trojan War, when the pharaohs of the Great Pyramids ruled in Egypt, and kings resided in the palaces of Minoan Crete.

Located in the southwest of Anatolia, the Caria Region has long been considered one of the
regions with the least recognized prehistoric past. However, excavations carried out in the
Kumyeri Necropolis during the year 2009 suggested that, contrary to the available information,
there was a strong Early Bronze Age settlement in the center of the region. Offering a reference
to approximately 5000 years ago, this cemetery is marked with its ceramic art, i.e., an indicator
of a collective production process, as well as the innovations associated with burial traditions.
Accordingly, the vessels found in Kumyeri, which were considered as imports, constitute the
material remains of the relations established by the Caria Region with distant geographies
parallel to the economic power it had achieved. The wealth of Kumyeri pottery products, which
were especially known from the Yortan Cemetery Culture, is suggestive of the dynamic relations
of the Caria Region, which was actively involved in the trade/barter system with the northwest
Anatolia.

This article focuses on the Chalcolithic finds uncovered at the Elmacıktepe Mound, examined during the archaeological surface surveys conducted in the Bafra Plain between 2017 and 2019. With its diameter and elevation, Elmacıktepe is one of the largest mounds in the Black Sea Region. The surface survey employed a restricted area method, which revealed that Chalcolithic ceramics and small finds were concentrated on the western slope of the mound. The ceramic assemblage is dominated by local characteristics, primarily consisting of dark-faced burnished and unburnished wares. These are followed by vessels with light/dark brown and red surface colors. Vessel forms range from bowls and dishes to jars, some featuring lug handles, short necks, or no necks at all. Decorations executed in white paint on dark backgrounds, as well as incised and excised relief motifs, represent the most conspicuous indicators of interaction with Central and Western Anatolia during the Chalcolithic period. This also suggests that the settlement may have participated
in cultural exchanges or shared production traditions. Small finds include stone weights, stone adzes, a marble bracelet fragment and blade, grinding stones, a chipped stone assemblage, and terra-cotta biconical sling bullets, all recovered from the western slope. However, the site’s location and the presence of stone tools suggest that a period of conflict may have occurred in the region. Together, these findings reflecting diversity in production, subsistence strategies, and cultural interaction demonstrate that Elmacıktepe was a significant settlement in the Middle and Late Chalcolithic periods. Given its potential for Black Sea and Chalcolithic studies, including Elmacıktepe among the targets of systematic excavation would be of strategic importance.

This article focuses the occupation of Crasto de Palheiros (Murça, Portugal) during the 1st millennium BCE, reassessing phases II (Late Bronze Age) and III (Iron Age). Based primarily on radiocarbon dates, stratigraphic analyses, and ceramic studies, it discusses the Late Bronze Age occupation of this settlement, which serves as the foundation for a reevaluation of the settlement patterns in "interior" Trás-os-Montes during the same chronological-cultural period (12th to 5th centuries BCE). Of particular signifi cance in this discussion is the comparison with the Fraga dos Corvos site, especially regarding the problematic transition from Late Bronze Age to Iron Age and, within this context, the establishment of continuities and changes in material culture. Título: Relaciones Estilísticas y Culturales en un Contexto Temprano del Horizonte Medio: Presencia Nasca en Huari

Esta ponencia analiza un conjunto cerámico excepcional —vasijas enteras y fragmentos— recuperado en Huari (Ayacucho, Perú) y fechado alrededor del 650 d.C. (±5), uno de los contextos más tempranos del Horizonte Medio registrados en el área. El estudio se centra en el análisis estilístico y tecnológico de la manufactura para reevaluar las atribuciones tradicionales a los estilos Huarpa y Chakipampa. Se argumenta que varias de las vasijas completas, especialmente unas copas de características únicas y botellas de tres cuerpos, presentan rasgos diagnósticos del estilo Nasca (como el uso de un característico marrón oscuro de acabado pulido, labios ojivales, posibles evidencias de uso de torno y un engobe naranja interno), en lugar de ser meros híbridos o variantes locales Huarpa Tricolor. Asimismo, se propone que los estilos Ocros y Negro Decorado en Ayacucho estarían vinculados a esta influencia Nasca. Se concluye que la presencia Nasca en la región es anterior a la llegada de las Series Iconográficas del Sur Andino (SAIS) y sugiere el posible traslado de alfareros especializados, no solo de objetos, implicando una interacción cultural más profunda y compleja de lo que se había estimado previamente.

Title: Stylistic and Cultural Relations in an Early Middle Horizon Context: Nasca Presence at Huari

This paper examines an exceptional ceramic assemblage—complete vessels and fragments—recovered at Huari (Ayacucho, Peru) and dated to around AD 650 (±5), one of the earliest Middle Horizon contexts recorded in the area. The study focuses on a stylistic and technological analysis of manufacturing techniques to reassess traditional attributions to the Huarpa and Chakipampa styles. It is argued that several of the complete vessels, especially unique cups and three-body bottles, exhibit diagnostic features of the Nasca style (such as the use of a distinctive dark brown, highly polished paint, ogival lips, potential evidence of turntable use, and an internal orange slip), rather than being mere hybrids or local Huarpa Tricolor variants. Furthermore, it is proposed that the Ocros and Negro Decorado styles in Ayacucho are linked to this Nasca influence. The conclusion is that the Nasca presence in the region predates the arrival of the Southern Andean Iconographic Series (SAIS) and suggests the possible relocation of specialized potters, not just objects, implying a deeper and more complex cultural interaction than previously estimated.
