O objetivo principal do presente trabalho é apresentar os resultados finais da pesquisa de iniciação científica financiada pelo CNPq, sob a orientação do professor Luciano Magela Roza, titular do Departamento de História da UFOP. A pesquisa investigou como a memória da história afro-brasileira é abordada nos recortes temáticos da Abolição e do Pós-abolição nos livros didáticos aprovados pelos Editais do Programa Nacional do Livro Didático (PNLD) de 2017 e 2020.

This study aimed to determine the applicability of western migration models to the movement patterns of foreign migrant traders at the Hartebeespoort Dam. After reflecting on theoretical dimensions of migration and the informal sector, an overview was provided of the historical development of migration patterns to and within South Africa. The complex nature of migration phenomena ensures the application of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. A snowball sampling technique was used to select 30 respondents for the purpose of the questionnaire survey. Information obtained from this survey was supplemented by five in-depth interviews. Descriptive statistical techniques were used to analyse the information obtained from the survey. The study concluded that western migration models do not offer adequate explanation for the migration patterns observed among foreign migrant traders at the Hartebeespoort Dam. The study also established the merit of the combined use of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies in migration studies.

Wenn wir Rassismus als soziales Verhältnis verstehen, dann gilt es, ein solches ebenso für den Antirassismus zu denken. Der vorliegende Beitrag stellt eine neue rassismustheoretische Analytik vor, in deren Zentrum die globalen Kampfzyklen des Antirassismus für antikoloniale Selbstbestimmung und Dekolonisierung stehen, aber auch seine Konjunkturen und seine transversalen Konjunktionen. Mit anderen Worten: Ich möchte eine Lektüre der Geschichten des Antirassismus vorschlagen, wie sie im Lichte sozialer Gedächtnisspuren erscheinen und die ich im Folgenden als Perspektiven eines gesellschaftlichen Antirassismus bezeichne und genauer auslote. Hierbei gilt es aber auch, den verhängnisvollen Zusammenhang zwischen Vergessen, Verleugnen und rassistischer Gewalt zu ergründen.

This article explores the underlying causes of conflict in Manipur state by examining Meitei's and Kuki's counterclaims. The Meitei and Kuki groups had multiple problems before May 3, 2023. The Nagas and Kukis organized a tribal unity protest in the hill districts to protest a proposal to add the Meiteis to the list of ST (scheduled tribes), which was the direct cause of the violence. Manipur has been a hotbed of contested assertions since ethnic flashpoints between the majority of Meiteis and the Kuki tribals erupted at the beginning of May 2023. The Meiteis called the Kukis drug dealers, outsiders, poppy growers, refugees, illegal migrants, and encroachers of statereserved forests. The Kukis oppose the claims that they are overpopulated in Manipur, recognizing their land rights and the existence of a historic Anglo-Kuki War, which the Meiteis and the government deny. The Kukis strongly denied that they were illegal migrants, refugees, or encroachers on state-reserved forests. The Kukis, too, said they were not the only ones running drugs and growing poppies. They also remembered the previous Anglo-Kuki War in Manipur and claimed the territorial occupation. Manipur's Kukis have been yearning to find out their past and ancestry for a long time. Therefore, this study explores the factors causing the conflicts claimed and disputed by the Manipur State Government and the two communities.

Temos assistido nos últimos anos na sociedade em geral e no campo da educação em particular a formulação de diferentes políticas afirmativas, e em especial a política de cotas para negros na universidade para inserção da população negra no ensino superior. No entanto, a presença cada vez maior de negros na universidade não ocorre de forma "pacífica", esta inserção é marcada por controvérsias, discussões e tensões raciais entre brancos e negros. O objetivo deste trabalho é mostrar que para além das cotas raciais, cujos objetivos são a inclusão sócio-educacional, e a valorização da identidade sócio-cultural da população de cor, ainda perpetua-se a discriminação e o racismo, como também o que Erving Goffman chama de "estigma", isto é, procuramos analisar as desigualdades raciais institucionalizadas. Assim, no plano subjetivo ou do imaginário dos sujeitos perpetua-se a imagem do indivíduo de cor como aquele portador de caracteres inferiores enquadrando-os nos patamares mais baixos da sociedade.

O artigo examina a política de cotas raciais no serviço público brasileiro como ferramenta  essencial  no  combate  à  desigualdade  racial.  Destaca-se  a  sub-representação de negros no referido âmbito e a evolução das ações afirmativas no Brasil dividida em três gerações: a primeira, iniciada em 2001, apresenta normas de menor impacto; a segunda, com a Lei n.º 12.990, estabelece novo parâmetro de reserva de vagas para negros; e a terceira é impulsionada por órgãos de controle para municípios e estados. Ademais, explicitam-se desafios como a baixa representatividade em cargos de comando e a importância de uma burocracia representativa ativa que promova mudanças estruturais. Ao utilizar uma abordagem mista, com estudo de caso e análise documental, conclui-se que as cotas são fundamentais para a justiça social, mas ainda persistem lacunas, como a falta de mecanismos que garantam atuação efetiva dos beneficiários, exigindo avanços para uma verdadeira igualdade racial no serviço público.

RESUMO Muitas dificuldades são encontradas no processo de titulação de territórios quilombolas no Brasil, incluindo as dificuldades de regularização de áreas privadas. Por conta de tais dificuldades, o Estado brasileiro propôs simplificações para regularizar territórios localizados em Terras da União. Frente a isso, a proposta principal deste artigo foi a de realizar uma análise qualitativa da legislação e de algumas políticas de regularização fundiária de territórios quilombolas em terras da União, cuja gestão é feita pela Secretaria de Patrimônio da União (SPU). Para isso, foram realizadas pesquisas bibliográficas e análise de materiais institucionais e normativos encontrados sobre a caracterização, definição e atual legislação de regularização fundiária em territórios quilombolas, incluindo as políticas voltadas para estes territórios. Ao analisar a legislação referente às comunidades quilombolas, em especial no que tange à regularização fundiária de seus territórios, foi possível observar a existência de importantes avanços nos processos de regularização fundiária.

Resumo
A dissertação investiga o conceito de fracasso como uma chave interpretativa
para problematizar as promessas de progresso linear e racionalidade que
estruturam a modernidade ocidental. Ao abordar a falha como motor de
reinvenção, a pesquisa enfatiza o potencial crítico da arte em tensionar
dicotomias fundantes, como a separação cartesiana entre mente e mundo,
evidenciando as hierarquias sociais e raciais que sustentam o sujeito moderno
transparente. Mobiliza-se o arquétipo do Trickster como figura que
desestabiliza ordens estabelecidas e revela contradições do sistema.
Elementos como a arquitetura de vidro e os chamados “grandes projetores” são
analisados enquanto símbolos de vigilância, controle e disciplinamento social.
A reflexão propõe ainda a noção de museu-fábrica como metáfora de uma arte
viva, relacional e situada, que rompe com a lógica produtivista e
institucionalizada. Nesse sentido, a atuação do artista enquanto educador e
mediador de saberes localizados emerge como prática emancipatória, capaz
de valorizar processos coletivos e territórios de criação que resistem às formas
hegemônicas de representação, como exemplificado no projeto “A Fonte”.
Assim, a pesquisa articula arte, educação e crítica social, defendendo o
fracasso como estratégia política de fissura e possibilidade de transformação.

Abstract
This dissertation investigates the concept of failure as an interpretative key to
problematize the promises of linear progress and rationality that structure Western
modernity. By approaching failure as a driving force for reinvention, the research
highlights the critical potential of art to challenge foundational dichotomies, such as
the Cartesian separation between mind and world, exposing the social and racial
hierarchies that sustain the transparent modern subject. The Trickster archetype is
mobilized as a figure that destabilizes established orders and reveals systemic
contradictions. Elements such as glass architecture and the so-called “great
projectors” are analyzed as symbols of surveillance, control, and social disciplining.
The reflection further proposes the notion of the museum-factory as a metaphor for a
living, relational, and situated art practice that disrupts the productivist and
institutionalized logic. In this sense, the role of the artist as educator and mediator of
localized knowledge emerges as an emancipatory practice, capable of valuing
collective processes and territories of creation that resist hegemonic forms of
representation, as exemplified by the project “A Fonte.” Thus, this research
articulates art, education, and social critique, defending failure as a political strategy
of rupture and a possibility for transformation.

The editorial introduction to the special issue on researcher positionality and race in color-evasive Nordic educational contexts frames the necessity of this inquiry into historical and contemporary forms of racism and current discourses of Nordic exceptionalism. Reflecting explicitly on researcher positionality with respect to race and Whiteness can be seen as an act of interrupting the silence and avoidance that tends to characterize Nordic educational research. The articles in the special issue are summarized and connected to these overall aims.

Apesar do discurso das autoridades que gerenciam o futebol no âmbito global contrários a qualquer forma de discriminação, sobretudo as de cunho racial, a reincidência de casos prossegue. Embora se caracterize como algo singular por parte da maioria dos pesquisadores, o racismo no futebol apresenta elementos gerais que, por vezes, são ignorados. Vide exemplos das ocorrências com alguns jogadores brasileiros, como Aranha, Arouca, Daniel Alves, Tinga e Roberto Carlos, bem como do árbitro Márcio Chagas da Silva. Vários destes casos foram pesquisados academicamente, porém, como são análises pontuais (estudos de caso), acabam não articulando o fenômeno racismo no futebol como um todo. Portanto, o objetivo deste artigo é apresentar uma reflexão acerca deste fenômeno social lamentável que -por maior que sejam as campanhas de conscientização por parte das autoridades e da imprensa -não apresentam indícios de que estão recrudescendo. A pesquisa é pautada nos procedimentos da história do tempo presente.

Public intellectuals have long used and engaged with the arts to communicate ideas about power, identity and society. John Issit and Duncan Jackson discuss the difficulty of trying to determine the role of a public intellectual: ‘I am looking for what the public intellectual might be, what it might become, its tensions, its changes, its history, its roles and its ideological condition.’1 They are quite clear that confining the term ‘public intellectual’ to its Oxford Dictionary description of ‘an intellectual who expresses views intended to a general audience’ is a narrow definition, ‘which lacks explanatory precision on the one hand’ and is ‘excessively
restrictive in scope on the other’.2 In propagating a less restrictive use of the term ‘public intellectual’, I argue that two films directed by Koos Roets can be considered a form of ‘symbolic goods’ that disrupted the status quo within the Afrikaner community. Roets is not known as a critically engaging media presence, or for writing thought-provoking criticism in newspaper columns (like many of the other public intellectuals discussed in this book). However, as a cinematographer he made immense contributions to films by dissident film-makers Jans Rautenbach and
Emil Nofal that would change the course of the South African film industry. The films he collaborated on as a writer, cinematographer and director received attention from scholars, critics and general film audiences. In considering these films, I posit with other scholars that the term ‘public intellectual’ could be broadened to include verbal or published goods that make a contribution to other individuals’ thinking. Therefore, I propose it is not Roets’s public persona that deserves to be credited with being a public intellectual; rather, it is that his films are symbolic goods that have contributed to the public sphere, as well as the history of South
African film. To construct this argument, I refer to two feature films Roets directed: "Die Groen Faktor" (The Green Factor, 1984) and "Kaalgat tussen die Daisies" (Naked among the daisies, 1997). These films were created and released 13 years apart and I read them as demonstrating Roets’s approach within two different socio-historical contexts. The films selected for analysis in this chapter constitute a mere sample of Roets’s oeuvre that uses satire to prick people’s consciences and challenge the powerful
notions within so-called Afrikaner society. I would argue that he is like a poker player: with a poker face he never openly speaks against the grain of Afrikaner society, but rather uses his cards to speak for him.

The Armenian Diaspora is considered one of the largest and most organised diasporas in the world. Over the centuries, Armenians, as a result of forced or voluntary migration, left their homeland and settled in foreign countries. Dispersed Armenians have become organised, have established their organizations in host countries and always have tried to keep contact with Homeland. The Armenian Diaspora has undergone various transformations over the decades and centuries due to many reasons. As a result of these transformations, many different changes took place in the Armenian Diaspora, which gave it a new qualitative and quantitative character. The article examines the transformation processes of the Armenian diaspora, their results, and the pre-genocide and post-genocide Armenian Diasporas are subjected to comparative analysis.

Challenging the current theories about Iranian Nationalism, I employ Nicola Miller's theory that defines nations as communities of shared knowledge to read Ferdowsi's story of Mazdak as a case in which Ferdowsi shows how Iran, or the notion of Iran, is saved by returning to and confirming the shared knowledge. In the story, King Qobad hires Mazdak as an advisor and advocates his new ideas about society. When Mazdak’s approach fails and results in chaos, Qobad’s son, Anushirvan, intervenes and reminds his father that Mazdak’s new worldview and his interpretation of the Iranian religion and tradition are destroying Iran. He further reminds him that Zoroastrianism, as a shared body of knowledge and values, has worked well for the country in the past. The King accepts the son’s criticism, and Iran once again finds its “righteous” path.

In February 1744 in Paris, the Swedish physician Abraham Bäck (1713-95), better known as Carl Linnaeus's best friend, dissected the cadaver of an unidentified sub-Saharan man. In contrast to the widespread exploitation of the enslaved dead in North America, cadavers of dark-skinned Africans remained rare in the anatomical theatres of eighteenth-century Europe. Scarcity not only increased their market value in medical circles interested in skin colour: in Europe, empirical anatomists often used these rare remains for building their medical authority. This article explores the rise of an empiricist social culture of racial anatomy in the European Enlightenment by following the case of Bäck, whose research on 'black' skin also provides a little-known counterpart to Linnaeus's racial anthropology. Bäck's case illustrates not only how European anatomists often wrote accounts of skin colour which best showcased their medical skills but also how the production of racial pseudoscience became increasingly driven by the authoritative rise of empiricism, the expansion of the slave trade, and the Enlightenment's fascination with human differences. O COLARTES, tradicional evento do Programa de Pós-graduação em Artes (PPGA) da Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, é um colóquio anual, criado em 2014, organizado pelos discentes para compartilhamento das pesquisas em andamento ou concluídas. Tem como finalidade dar visibilidade aos estudos, pesquisas e produções bibliográficas e artísticas dos mestrandos, doutorandos, pós-doutorandos, egressos e alunos de iniciação científica ligados a projetos de pesquisa de professores do PPGA/UFES. Faz parte do evento a organização de uma exposição na Galeria de Arte e Pesquisa GAP/ UFES que tem como objetivo central incentivar a produção artística oriunda da pesquisa acadêmica e conectá-la ao circuito de arte contemporânea nos âmbitos regional, nacional e internacional. Nesta XI edição denominada BRASILIDADES: RAÍZES CULTURAIS E CAMINHOS PARA O FUTURO, a equipe de organização, coordenada por Luciano Tasso, contextualiza o mundo com o sentido de urgência e aceleração contemporânea que impõe questões para repensarmos o Brasil que queremos para o futuro. Trazem, para a pauta do evento, a complexa pluralidade cultural dos vários sujeitos, em busca de uma identidade que se caracterize pelos modos de ser, pensar e agir que reivindicam democracia racial, alteridade e respeito as diferenças que estruturam nossa condição enquanto povo. Nesse sentido, torna-se evidente que a concepção de "brasilidades" só é possível de forma coerente no plural, nos convidando a pensar múltiplas brasilidades possíveis. Este colóquio nos convida à reflexão sobre o que se apresenta alheio à nossa natureza e evoca ações de ruptura das estruturas como caminho essencial para revermos aquilo que nos constitui como pensadores e criadores autônomos. No âmbito da produção artística de nossos discentes, identidades diversas buscam expressar suas singularidades em formas e conteúdos diversos. Tal heterogeneidade identitária propicia a eclosão de práticas culturais complexas, as quais reverberam nas poéticas desenvolvidas por artistas -em toda sua pluralidade de raça e gênero -que intentam corporificar saberes e fazeres tradicionais. This article adopts a diasporist perspective to examine cross-border engagements among long-established, multigenerational diasporas. Focusing on the Armenian case, it demonstrates how intergenerational efforts to preserve and (re)produce ethnocultural differences across multilocal imperial and national contexts, defined as ethnic diasporism, are inherently transnational. The article then introduces the concept of impersonal transnationalism to describe cross-border connections that develop without personal mobility or interpersonal ties, mediated through transnationally embedded diasporic institutions. Drawing on qualitative studies with second-and third-generation Armenian-Americans, this research highlights how commitments to locally established diasporic institutions and participation in localized transcultural practices, defined as diasporic localism, also foster transnational awareness, connections, and a sense of transnational belonging, thereby extending the concept of transnationalism beyond personal cross-border engagement or mobility.

On 10 May 2024, the AEFJN International Secretariat met with Mr. Saeed Abd Elhafez Darwish, the President and CEO of the Forum for Development and Human Rights Dialogue (FDHRD), in Brussels to discuss possible points of cooperation on human rights and other advocacy issues between Africa and Europe. Mr. Darwish has more than three decades of extensive experience fighting for human rights as a lawyer and head of an American international news network based in Egypt. Among FDHRD's organization advocacy programmes, which AEFJN shares interest are 1) human rights issues, such as the freedom of speech and expression, 2) integrity and transparency in government institutions, and 3) the importance of dialogue to resolve conflicts. Founded in 2005, FDHRD was established with funding assistance from USAID, the American Embassy in Egypt, and Freedom House among others to advocate for human rights through dialogue after realizing that there is a pressing social need to facilitate as a non-governmental organization. Since the 2011 Egyptian Revolution, however, the Egyptian government restricted the flow of international funding to NGOs due to security and political reasons. Despite this situation, FDHRD continues to monitor the human rights situation, publish fact finding reports, and was the first NGO to urge Egypt to sign the Maputo Protocol through its dialogue with the Ministry of Social Solidarity.

After turning his back for over 123 weeks, Prime Minister Narendra Modi finally visited Manipur on 13 September 2025. His visit was occasioned by loud declaration of the launch of 19 projects worth over 7300 crores. While this may be useful as a carefully choreographed event for political optics, his silence on substantive concerns of peace, justice and a commitment to a rules-based constitutional order where citizens are accorded equal protection of the law may not be particularly helpful in winning the hearts and minds of the people. Developmental projects as vertical properties of the state have, far from being elixir which resolve all societal problems , historically reinforced development-bias of the state as major chunk of development projects are concentrated in the valley areas. Yet it remains to be seen whether development can, as Sachs argues, serve as ‘a myth which comforts societies’ across the divide in Manipur which are already tormented and psychologically bruised by over two years.

This essay examines Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle as a critical lens on the American Dream, revealing how the promise of prosperity and progress often collapsed into exploitation and social inequality for immigrants. Through the story of Jurgis Rudkus and his family, Sinclair exposes the inhumane conditions of Chicago’s meatpacking industry and the corruption of capitalism, highlighting the gap between the ideal of individual success and the harsh reality of marginalization and failure.

Resumo este texto tem por objetivo mostrar algumas práticas desenvolvidas pelos cursistas do Polo da universidade Aberta de Novo Hamburgo-Rs durante o uniafro -Curso de Aperfeiçoamento em Política de Promoção da Igualdade Racial ocorrido no ano de 2014. essa formação teve o intuito de auxiliar os educadores a trabalhar em sala de aula ações para a educação das Relações Étnico-Raciais de acordo com a Lei n° 10.639, de 9 de janeiro de 2003. Neste sentido, o objeto de reflexão deste texto está baseado na observação das interações que ocorreram nos fóruns e nas atividades de intervenção realizadas pelos cursistas junto aos seus alunos. o texto também se propõe a apresentar ao leitor uma experiência de educação a distância fundamentada na temática das relações étnico-raciais, bem como algumas atividades realizadas durante o curso. Tunisia’s Andalusians tells the captivating story of those Andalusians, descendants of Muslims expelled from Spain in the 17th century, who sought refuge in Tunisia. Rather than simply replicating Iberian traditions, Andalusian culture in Tunisia stands as a vibrant and evolving phenomenon, shaped by complex dynamics of interaction and adaptation over four centuries. The book dismantles the romanticized view of Andalusian culture as a mere transplantation of al-Andalus, analyzing distinctive cultural features that distinguish Andalusians as a distinct ethnic group within Tunisia’s diverse social fabric.  Drawing on historical records and contemporary ethnographic data, including personal accounts and family archives, the book sheds light on how Andalusians navigate their unique cultural position amidst a Tunisian national narrative often focused on Arabo-Muslim homogeneity. By examining the complexities of cultural preservation and assimilation, the book offers a nuanced perspective on Andalusian identity, revealing its dynamism and resilience in the face of changing social, political, and economic circumstances.

In this paper we report an analysis of individual and group interviews with 38 Scottish Muslims concerning their encounters with authority -especially those at airports. Our analysis shows that a key theme in interviewees' talk of their experience in this context concerns the denial and misrecognition of valued identities such as being British, being respectable, and being Muslim. One reason why such experiences are so problematic concerns the denial of agency associated with being positioned in terms that are not one's own. The implications of these findings for understanding the dynamics of intergroup relations are discussed.

El artículo busca hacer el análisis del control religioso ejercido sobre el sexo inter-racial en una sociedad colonizada: Colombia. En este contexto, la sexualidad, en sus diversas manifestaciones, se convirtió durante el periodo colonial en un factor muy importante. Era relevante tanto para la sociabilidad como para la integración y miscigenación que nunca puso ser controlado por la Iglesia. Eso contribuyó de manera decisiva a crear una sociedad multiétnica y multicultural dividida en castas, pero no tan dividida como para impedir fluidas relaciones entre todas ellas en uno de los escasos campos en que todas podían participar de una manera relativamente igualitaria.

In Episode 66 Dr. Nicholas Ng-A-Fook interviews Dr. Philip S. S. Howard an Associate Professor in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education at McGill University’s Faculty of Education. His research explores the social formations, pedagogical processes, and epistemological frameworks that shape how we understand ourselves, form identities, and exercise agency in the context of antiblackness, colonialism, and racial injustice.  Dr. Howard’s recent projects include an examination of contemporary Canadian blackface as a post-racialist phenomenon; narratives of Black life, agency, and resistance in educational contexts across Toronto, Halifax, and Montreal; and broader questions of Black Studies and its presence in Canada. We discussed the following: ISATT Conference at Glasgow University, British Empire and transatlantic slave trade, historical injustices and public memory, cosmetic versus substantive transformational change, post-2020 anti-Black racisms, post-racialist rhetoric, blackface in Canadian universities, cyclical backlash, Black Life, freedom movements, settler colonialism and higher education, Sylvia Wynter’s rethinking of the human in response to settler colonial logics, possibilities and limitations of institutionalizing Black Studies, critique of “Black excellence” discourse, historical consciousness and the archive, epistemologies of ignorance, and so much more.

This paper explores the dynamics of intercultural communication between Japan and Argentina, with particular attention to how cultural differences shape business relations, media representations, and public perceptions. Drawing on theories of Hall and Hofstede, as well as press coverage and trade data, the study highlights the persistent stereotypes that condition bilateral understanding and the opportunities for deeper dialogue. While Japanese investment and trade with Argentina remain modest compared to Brazil, recent developments suggest an increasing need for strategies that bridge cultural gaps and enhance mutual cooperation. The findings point to the importance of transcending stereotypes through culturally sensitive communication, while also underscoring the lack of systematic research on Japan-Argentina relations. Further studies are needed to explore this underdeveloped field and its implications for Latin American-Japanese cooperation.

In Latin America, for centuries, racial discrimination and other forms of racism have been especially detrimental to people and communities of indigenous peoples and Afro-descendants (ECLAC, 2016). In Argentina, racism is one of the most important forms of discrimination (INADI, 2020). However, it is often perceived as a problem mainly occurring in other countries or regions . It is frequently overlooked that racism is a problem present in the higher education system and institutions. This misperception is partly due to representations of the idea of racism frequently reduced to one of its most obvious manifestations, racial discrimination. Nevertheless, other less evident modalities of racism condemn some population groups to live in disadvantaged and inequitable conditions that affect higher education . This paper describes research results that contribute to the identification, understanding, and analysis of how racism, as an ideology and system of power, manifests itself in higher education and contributes to its reproduction and naturalization in all spheres of social life in Argentina. This research also examines the fundamental role of higher education in eradicating racism and greater democratization in contemporary societies.

Suitcases Packed with memories, languages stitched into accents, recipes whispered across generations -this is the living archive of diaspora. This article provides an extensive and affirmative examination of Kashmiri identity within diasporic literature, focusing on memory as a mechanism for cultural preservation in Rahul Pandita's "Our Moon Has Blood Clots" ( ), the intricate interplay of moral complexity and identity negotiation in Mirza Waheed's "The Collaborator" ( ), and the dynamics of identity, hybridity, and belonging in Siddhartha Gigoo's "The Garden of Solitude" (2011) as critically analyzed by Saikat Ghosh. It integrates the salad bowl metaphor, representing cultural coexistence, and diaspora consciousness, embodying an enduring connection to the homeland. This study celebrates the resilience, cultural pride, and communal strength embedded in these narratives, offering a detailed and accessible analysis that reflects the transformative power of Kashmiri diasporic literature.

We advance the literature on environmental justice by examining colorblind rhetoric as a mechanism sustaining environmental racism. Through a case study of one agricultural community in California actively contesting pesticide exposure, we examine the colorblind rhetoric and tactics that agricultural growers and state regulators engage to sustain pesticide practices in the face of racial harm. We identify five epistemic maneuvers: a) elevating public good claims, b) projecting morality and solidarity, c) inverting narratives of victimhood and innocence, d) promoting a scientific narrative, and e) disparaging dissenting voices. These maneuvers normalize harm, minimize the negative impacts of pesticide exposure, absolve growers and state regulators from responsibility for racial harm, and discredit the knowledge and experience of farmworkers and their representatives. Our findings contribute to understanding how environmental racism is sustained in a colorblind context through rhetoric and tactics that promote racial ignorance.

The resurgence of xenophobia has become a salient issue in contemporary societies, driven by complex interactions between economic, cultural, security, and media-related factors. This study conducts a comparative analysis of the United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, and Thailand to explore the causes, manifestations, and implications of xenophobic attitudes. Using a qualitative, thematic, and country-specific approach, the research examines how economic anxieties, national identity concerns, security perceptions, and media representation shape xenophobic discourse. Findings reveal both global patterns and context-specific dynamics: economic competition and perceived threats to national identity consistently fuel xenophobia, while local histories, political structures, and cultural frameworks influence its intensity and form. The study highlights the role of media in amplifying xenophobic narratives and underscores the institutionalization of exclusionary practices through policy frameworks. Policy and theoretical implications emphasize the need for multi-dimensional interventions that promote social cohesion, equitable migration policies, and responsible media engagement. This research contributes to the broader understanding of xenophobia as a multi-faceted social phenomenon with both universal and localized drivers.

This paper explores the complex interplay between violence, misogyny, and the weaponization of rape in Nnedi Okorafor's "The Black Stain." It aims to analyze the strategic use of sexual violence as a means of reinforcing patriarchal dominance and social hierarchies, employing Michel Foucault's Theory of Discourse and Judith Butler's Concept of Gender Performativity. This approach examines how societal norms are perpetuated through discourse and gender performance, highlighting the instrumental role of language and actions in sustaining gender-based oppression. The narrative of "The Black Stain" illuminates the profound impact of these dynamics on the lives of Okeke women, whose bodies become sites of male control and punishment. Okorafor's portrayal of the violent enforcement of patriarchal norms underscores the broader societal implications of sexual violence as a tool of power. This paper draws primarily from a close reading of "The Black Stain" and integrates a range of secondary sources, including feminist theory, discourse analysis, and scholarly articles, to underscore the need for a critical reevaluation of the narratives that normalize violence against women. By linking Okorafor's fictional narrative with Bangladesh's real-world history, this paper features the urgent need to critically reassess the discourses that normalize violence against women, both in fictional Durfa and real historical contexts like the Liberation War of Bangladesh.
