Introduction. The comprehension of computer programs is claimed to be a decisive faculty and even skill of any successful
exercising professional duties of program engineers, for example, prototype analysis, decision making and discussion about
algorithms and structures, development of detailed documentation, test development and test analysis. Exercising of the
duties demands from the engineer a special competence to judge about a program behavior basing on the consideration
of its source and sometimes digital codes, screenshots, execution protocols. The skill and opportunity to make trial runs
can supplement but not replace the competence. Manifesting itself on particular programs it is not a presentation of an
extensive and deep familiarity with the programs, but results from the experience with a lot of programs and is obscured
by another competence, the competence of the developer.
This paper is aimed to precise the interpretation of the notion “program comprehension”, to research the opportunities of
a purposeful and enhanced teaching the program comprehension, to develop methods and tools for the assessment of
the program comprehension teaching in the higher school. The aim is relevant because of current university curricula allot
considerable lecture and laboratory time for teaching programming, including program comprehension. But this time is
constantly not enough in view of a growing intensity of innovations in the area of the program engineering. The problem
of a control over processes of the program comprehension fostering in a computer class is a key problem of achieving the
aim having been set.
Materials and methods. The research is based on the university syllabi, the author’s lecture notes, protocols of experimental
and sample runs of the developed programs, Internet resources, such as site of the ACM and others. The following research
methods were used: terminological analysis and elaboration of a vocabulary demanded in the research and discourse
within the paper; modelling and simulation, including a theoretical conceptual model representation of the program
comprehension, a computer program simulation of the monitoring and control over the comprehension progress; an UMLpresentation and a trial implementation of the proposed interface for the program comprehension monitoring and control.
Research results. Redefinition of conceptual cognitive models of program comprehension is proposed. The program
comprehension is postulated to be a state of the cognitive knowledge base that represents an actual affordance of giving
correct answers to questions about an eventual program behavior. This model highlights a special kind of teaching to be
called “didactic parsing” that is targeted to generate at the audience a comprehension of programs being parsed. Dynamics
of question and answers during the didactic parsing is used for assessing the education success and, finally, for a control of
the teaching tempo. A user interface for learning computer systems (counters, controls and policies) are proposed to assist in
monitoring and control of the didactic parsing. Sample implementation of the interface is built in JL (Joint Lesson) computer
system. A graph model and a corresponding simulation program are developed that capture relevant dynamic features of
control over the didactic parsing and are applied for the further investigation and demonstration of general didactic parsing
effects as well as an aid for planning and control of program comprehension teaching during particular lectures.
Conclusion. The research results provide creation of an environment, methods and tools enabling to positively impact the
processes of program comprehension attainment. In particular, they permit to control the program comprehension level at
a particular audience, adjust style of teaching to be most applicable to it, refine time plans of lectures in the area of program
engineering.

This paper presents a multi-representational computer-based environment, the Starting with Parallel Processing (SPAP) environment, designed for learning the concept of parallel processing to beginners through the possibility of their both performing and exploring serial and parallel sorting procedures. In designing this environment, social and constructivist learning theories have been taken into account. By interacting within SPAP, learners have opportunities to express their previous knowledge of serial and parallel sorting through a step-by-step procedure and receiving constructive feedback. Moreover, learners have the chance to actively explore stepby-step serial and parallel sorting automatically performed by the system. This paper presents the design and the pilot evaluation study of learning activity-based, multi-media, multi-representational and multi-layered content for the learning of basic concepts of programming and C. This content is integrated into a web-based learning environment named L.E.C.G.O. (Zikouli, Kordaki and Houstis, 2003). This design was based on modern social and constructivist theories of knowledge construction. Thus, the content was organized in a holistic way, using the learning activity as its basic structural element. In particular, the whole information was organized in five layers, presenting: a) complex programming examples (1 st layer), b) simple programming examples (2 nd layer), c) broad information about programming in C (3 rd layer), d) fundamentals in programming (4 th layer) and e) broad information at various locations on the WWW (5 th layer). Multiple representational educational software can assist students in their learning process in many ways. The main purpose of this paper is to present the design and implementation of an educational, multi-representational environment [named Virtual Student’s Bar (VSB)] that is dedicated to help novices understand the basic concept of algorithms and iteration statements, by using everyday life’s motivational activities like the process of creating a drink. The design of VSB is based on constructivist theories of learning. Students can virtually create step-by-step a drink among a number of drinks that are available in the application. In that way, students are more likely to understand new concepts such as procedural algorithmic logic and iteration structures, at the same time combining fun with learning. VSB also provides the students opportunities to experiment with multiple representations such as natural language, pseudo-code and flow-chart techniques using icons familiar to them.

This study considers the role of a drawing multiple-representation based computer environment (named L.E.C.G.O: a Learning Environment for programming and C using Geometrical Objects) in beginners’ programming attempts to accomplish a multiple-solution based task demanding the use of algorithmic structures, graphic functions and arrays. In fact, nine 18-year old students participated in a comparative learning experiment where they were asked to face similar multiple-solution based tasks in three learning contexts: paper and pencil (p-p), Turbo C and L.E.C.G.O. The analysis of the data shows that all students successfully faced the task at hand within L.E.C.G.O., at the same time using various algorithmic structures and graphic functions. However, fewer students effectively performed within p-p and Turbo C. This paper presents a multi-representational and real-life-activity based environment, the Starting with Algorithmic Structures (SAS) environment, designed for teaching the concept of algorithm and that of basic algorithmic structures to beginners. For the design of this environment, social and constructivist learning theories have been taken into account. By interacting within SAS, learners have opportunities to express their previous knowledge regarding the concept of algorithm and approach such concept through real-life activities. In addition, learners have the chance to express their algorithmic approaches to these activities using different Multiple Representation Systems (MRS) in a step-by-step learning experiment. Adult students learning LOGO for the first time developed a series of misconceptions concerning the flow of control in their programs. Most errors consisted of violations of programming discourse or style conventions. Students with prior programming experience in BASIC developed a novel implementation of recursion in LOGO that reflected the iterative FOR … NEXT construct of BASIC. The origins of these violations of programming conventions were traced to general properties of cognition and also to specific instructional practices. Changes in instructional practices, implemented in a second study, reduced the general incidence of some types of errors. However, instances of negative transfer due to prior programming experience continued to occur.

Students who are learning to program often have difficulties understanding cognitively complex concepts. Teaching programming is mainly focused on the syntax and features of programs, rather than to a deeper understanding of programming constructs and abstract concepts. Computer game stimulates active learning and presentation of learning content in a variety of contexts that are funny and engaging for students. This has a positive impact on the motivation to learn. This paper deals mainly with defining the programming knowledge and common problems with teaching programming, comparing the properties of novice and experts programmers and introducing the semantic method of teaching programming where one would teach only the semantics of programming constructs unbound to specific programming language in an interactive motivating setting of educational computer game. In this paper we discuss the main characteristics of computer games and specific features which makes them useful in the educational setting. As an example of presented method we introduce a game on the presentation of variables in programming. The game is based on visualizations of different types of variables and on the interpretation of the assignment sentence. The game actively encourages interactivity and deeper learning.

Υπάρχει ένα πρόβλημα στον κόσμο της ψυχομετρίας, στον κλάδο της έρευνας μέσω ερωτηματολογίων. Είναι μια επίπονη χρονοβόρα διαδικασία, φέρνει σε δύσκολη θέση η όλη σοβαρότητα και επισημότητα του έντυπου.
Χρειάζεται χρόνος για να εξηγήσουμε τους κανόνες στον εξεταζόμενο και πολλές φορές δεν καταλαβαίνει πως του ζητείται να απαντήσει, που μπαίνει τι, τι είναι τι. Σε μεγάλο βαθμό ευθύνεται το GRAPHIC INTERFACE. Αυτό που χρειάζεται λοιπόν είναι ένα γραφικό περιβάλλον φιλικό προς τον χρήστη, που παρομοιάζει κάτι που βλέπουν συχνά οι άνθρωποι κάθε μέρα και όχι κάτι που μοιάζει με φορολογική δήλωση ή με διαγώνισμα που βλέπει κάνεις μια φορά το εξάμηνο. Και αυτό που θα έπρεπε να μας απασχολεί και για το οποίο θα μιλήσω σήμερα είναι το ερωτηματολόγιο στο ίντερνετ. Καθώς τα έντυπα ερωτηματολόγια αποχωρούν από τον πρακτικό χώρο της έρευνας, το νέο μέσο είναι το ηλεκτρονικό ερωτηματολόγιο στο όποιο πρέπει να δώσουμε προσοχή όσο αναφορά τις παραγωγικές του προεκτάσεις. Παρότι υπάρχουν πολλές εφαρμογές για έρευνα, οι περισσότερες είναι εμπορικού περιεχομένου σε μορφή ιστοσελίδας στην οποία μια επιχείρηση απαιτεί έναν συγκεκριμένο αριθμό ερωτηματολογίων για μια τιμή, μετατρέποντας τα ερωτηματολόγια και τα υποκείμενα σε προϊόντα. Υπάρχει η ανάγκη ενός εργαλείου με στοιχεία crowdsourcing, open access που θα διαγράφει τον μεσολαβητή, απευθύνεται στον ακαδημαϊκό χώρο όσο και στον κοινό άνθρωπο και τους συνδέει άμεσα. Τα μέσα κοινωνικής δικτύωσης τουλάχιστον αλλοιώνουν την μορφολογία  λειτουργίας των κοινωνιών και επαναπροσδιορίζουν την δυναμική αλληλεπίδραση διομαδικού και διαπροσωπικού επιπέδου, έχει υπάρξει μια τρομερά ραγδαία και ασταμάτητη άνοδος του αριθμού χρηστών του διαδικτύου και της καθιέρωση ς αυτών των μέσων στην προσωπική ζωή των ανθρώπων, σε βαθμό που ο εθισμός και η εξάρτηση να θεωρούνται σχετικοί και πολιτιστικά προσαρμοσμένοι. Από αυτό μπορούμε να κρατήσουμε το γεγονός ότι αυτές οι πλατφόρμες είναι γνωστές στον κοινό άνθρωπο, το περιβάλλον χρήστη στις συσκευές τους, τα γραφικά, οι εφαρμογές που χρησιμοποιούν καθημερινά θα έπρεπε να είναι πηγή έμπνευσης και αξιοποίησης για κάποιον που θέλει να δημιουργήσει ένα φιλικό ερωτηματολόγιο.

Πώς μαθαίνουν τα παιδιά να μιλούν και πώς πλουτίζουν με τον χρόνο τις γλωσσικές τους ικανότητες; Το ερώτημα αυτό βρέθηκε, από το 1960 και μετά, στο επίκεντρο της προβληματικής των επιστημόνων της γλώσσας, οι οποίοι το απάντησαν διαφορετικά ανάλογα με τη θεωρία της γλώσσας που ασπάζονταν. Αποδεχόμενοι τη θεμελιακή υπόθεση της γλωσσολογίας (του κυρίαρχου ειδικότερα ρεύματος του στρουκτουραλισμού) ότι γλώσσα είναι ένας κώδικας σημείων, πολλοί στράφηκαν στο να περιγράψουν και να εξηγήσουν πώς μαθαίνει το παιδί αυτόν τον κώδικα. Πιο συγκεκριμένα, πώς αποκτά γνώση των τριών βασικών επιπέδων οργάνωσης του γλωσσικού συστήματος: του φωνολογικού επιπέδου, που αφορά την οργάνωση των ήχων, του γραμματικού επιπέδου που αφορά τη σύνταξη και τις γραμματικές κλίσεις· τέλος, του σημασιολογικού επιπέδου, που αφορά την οργάνωση των νοημάτων σε συνθετικά λέξεων, λέξεις και προτάσεις. Γενικό συμπέρασμα της σχετικής έρευνας ήταν ότι ο γλωσσικός κώδικας μαθαίνεται εκπληκτικά γρήγορα, δηλαδή πριν το τέλος της προσχολικής ηλικίας, χωρίς μάλιστα συστηματική διδασκαλία του εκ μέρους των ενηλίκων. Πιο αναλυτικά, οι φωνολογικές αρχές μιας γλώσσας αποκτώνται νωρίς. Τα παιδιά αναγνωρίζουν τα φωνήματα της γλώσσας τους και τους δυνατούς συνδυασμούς τους πριν το τέλος του τρίτου χρόνου της ζωής, ενώ η άρθρωσή τους προσεγγίζει αυτή των ενηλίκων πριν το τέλος του πέμπτου χρόνου. Το συμπέρασμα για την πρώιμη μάθηση του γλωσσικού κώδικα εντυπωσιάζει περισσότερο στο πεδίο της γραμματικής, το οποίο θεωρείται (από το κυρίαρχο θεωρητικό ρεύμα της γλωσσολογίας) πυρήνας του γλωσσικού κώδικα. Θεμελιώνεται καταρχήν στην παρατήρηση ότι τα παιδιά δεν παραβιάζουν βασικές γραμματικές αρχές στην ομιλία τους, όπως τον συντακτικό κανόνα της ελληνικής ότι το άρθρο προηγείται του ουσιαστικού. Τα γραμματικά λάθη αφορούν συνήθως κανόνες με εξαιρέσεις, όπως τον κανόνα κλίσης της ελληνικής σύμφωνα με τον οποίο οι παρελθοντικοί χρόνοι του ρήματος σχηματίζονται και με βάση την αύξηση ε-. Σημασία έχει ότι οι αποκλίσεις της ομιλίας των παιδιών από τη γραμματική νόρμα που ακούν, δεν είναι τυχαίες. Δείχνουν αντιθέτως ότι τα παιδιά έχουν ανακαλύψει στην ομιλία που ακούν τους γραμματικούς της κανόνες, τους οποίους εφαρμόζουν δημιουργικά στη δική τους ομιλία.

This thesis aims at an in-depth investigation of the signifying aspect of translation. The investigation is articulated in four parts in which different interdisciplinary approaches are critically exploited. The proposed conception of translation as meaning assignment is constructed out of a synthesis of the critical insights arrived at in the succeeding stages of the analysis. The first part starts with a critique of the standard conception of translation as recoding process. Seen from the viewpoint of Eco's theory of codes, the recoding model proves to be inadequate, for it fails to take into consideration the hermeneutic depth of translation. A preliminary application of Eco's theory of codes brings to the fore the intertwinement between the interpretive and the signifying aspects of translation. There occurs then the need for a semiotic description that will portray translation not as an exchange of messages but as a hermeneutic dialogue. Thus, in the second part there is a shift in focus from codes to interpretation and intercultural communication. From this new perspective, translation appears as a sequence of interdependent interpretive moves performed in a thick web of significations. The process of translation is each time performed from within the translator's hermeneutic horizon but it yields the translated text when a real fusion of horizons is reached. Translation as meaning assignment always presupposes a fusion of horizons. The essential link between the interdisciplinary approaches presented in the first two parts lies in the fact that both are inscribed in the problematic of meaning. The third part is concerned with the question of meaning itself, focusing in particular on problems regarding the ontological status of meaning and the relationship between language and reality. In connection with these problems, a critical exposition of the major philosophical theories of meaning is attempted, which further provides the basis for a concrete conception of linguistic meaning. This conception is developed in the fourth part and it rests on the notion of cultural unit, which underpins Eco's model of componential analysis of sememes. With this model as a starting point, two further definitions are given: a general definition of the concept of meaning assignment and a semiotic definition of textuality. These, in turn, enable us to arrive at an adequate definition of translation as meaning assignment. Although semiotic in character, the proposed approach focuses on the hermeneutic rather than the formal aspect of the signifying processes involved in translation, and it attempts to explore the translator's hermeneutic dialogue with the source text from the perspective of a Wittgensteinian view of language. The conception of translation as meaning assignment presented here emerges precisely out of this synthesis.

Η σχέση κόμικς και λογοτεχνίας είναι μακρόχρονη και θυελλώδης. Και ενώ έχει παρέλθει ο καιρός όπου τα κόμικς θεωρούνταν ως παραλογοτεχνία, νεολογισμοί όπως μυθιστόρημα σε εικόνες (graphic novel) ή τέχνη της ακολουθίας (sequential art) αντικατοπτρίζουν ακριβώς τις δυσκολίες στο να γίνουν αντιληπτά τα κόμικς έξω από το λογοτεχνικό σύμπαν. Η λογοτεχνία εστιάζει όλο και πιο πολύ το ενδιαφέρον της στα κόμικς, που πλέον προσαρτώνται σε μια από τις εκφάνσεις της.......

Περίληψη Η παρούσα μελέτη διερευνά τις διαφοροποιήσεις στις στάσεις μελών της παλαιάς και νέας μεσαίας τάξης. Η παλαιά μεσαία τάξη αποτελείται από άτομα που έχουν άμεση σχέση με την οικονομία (παραγωγή, διανομή και κυκλοφορία του κεφαλαίου) και η νέα μεσαία τάξη από άτομα που έχουν άμεση σχέση με το συμβολικό έλεγχο. Η ανάλυση και ερμηνεία του ερευνητικού υλικού που συλλέχτηκε με ημιδομημένες συνεντεύξεις από τους συμμετέχοντες, αναδεικνύει πέντε βασικές θεματικές ενότητες: σκοπός της εκπαίδευσης, προγράμματα σπουδών, σχολική γνώση, αξιολόγηση, συμμετοχή των γονέων. Τα αποτελέσματα δείχνουν ότι γονείς που προέρχονται από την παλαιά μεσαία τάξη προσανατολίζονται προς τις αρχές της ορατής παιδαγωγικής και κοινωνικοποιούν τα παιδιά τους με ισχυρές ταξινομήσεις-περιχαράξεις, ενώ γονείς που προέρχονται από τη νέα μεσαία τάξη προσανατολίζονται προς τις αρχές της αόρατης-παιδοκεντρικής παιδαγωγικής και κοινωνικοποιούν τα παιδιά τους με χαλαρότερες ταξινομήσεις-περιχαράξεις. COMPASS consists in the integration and extension of European standardization achievements in the field of learning opportunity and learning outcomes/competence information for the creation of models, open technology infrastructure and meaningful services within a higher education context that target (a) the improvement of quality and relevance of offered learning opportunities to current and emerging labour market needs, (b) the enhancement of mobility, making learning opportunities more visible and understandable for students that want to gain additional skills (c) the strengthening of cross-border cooperation of HEIs in the definition of quality flexible learning pathways for their learners, (d) the increase of social responsibility of HEIs through the transparent descriptions of their offerings, (e) the implementation of sustainable infrastructure for all European HEIs and for the EU to leverage in the enhancement of existing or the creation of new related services.

The study presents the results of a project in which virtual museums were used
for teaching elements of art history to primary school students. The teaching
subject was the three main exponents of modern sculpture, Brancusi, Modigliani,
and Tziakometti. The target group was 75 sixth-grade students. For examining
the learning outcomes, students were divided into three groups. In the first,
students developed, by working in groups, virtual museums using the online
application Artsteps. In the second they were taught conventionally, while in
the third group presentations and supplementary teaching material were used.
The results indicated that students who developed virtual museums had better
learning outcomes compared to the other groups. This finding can be attributed
to the use of the application together with students’ collaboration, which allowed
them to be actively engaged in the learning process.

Περίληψη Το άρθρο αφορά στην πρόταση ενός νέου καινοτόμου μοντέλου προσωποποιημένης κινητής μάθησης του Mobile Augmented Reality Innovative Learning (mARIL), το οποίο συνδυάζει και αξιοποιεί τα χαρακτηριστικά των τεχνολογιών επαυξημένης πραγματικότητας και σημασιολογικού ιστού. Η κινητή μάθηση ενισχύεται στο επίπεδο παρουσίασης με την τεχνολογία της επαυξημένης πραγματικότητας σε πραγματικό χρόνο, ενώ το ζητούμενο εκπαιδευτικό υλικό αντλείται μέσα από δυναμικές επιστημονικές πηγές δεδομένων μέσω οντολογιών. Το μοντέλο σχεδιάζεται να εφαρμοσθεί και να αξιολογηθεί από φοιτητές τμήματος ιατρικής στο γνωστικό αντικείμενο της ακτινοφυσικής. Η συνεισφορά του προτεινόμενου μοντέλου εντοπίζεται στην επέκταση προτύπων ηλεκτρονικής μάθησης και ειδικά του SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) με την προσθήκη χαρακτηριστικών της τεχνολογίας επαυξημένης πραγματικότητας και παροχής δυναμικού περιεχομένου.

Περίληψη: Ένα βασικό στοιχείο της κοσμολογίας του Ηρακλείτου είναι η αναφορά στην φωτιά ως αρχή και υπόστρωμα όλων των φυσικών διεργασιών. Αλλά εκτός από το υλικό στοιχείο της φωτιάς, ο Ηράκλειτος αναφέρει επίσης ένα άλλο είδος φωτιάς, τον κεραυνό, ο οποίος χαρακτηρίζεται από την ύπαρξη νόησης. Η κοσμολογία του, ωστόσο, χαρακτηρίζεται από τον κεραυνό που προέρχεται που προέρχεται από την αύξηση της φωτιάς που ονομάζεται κόρος (= κορεσμός). και σχετίζεται με το φαινόμενο της εκπύρωσης όπου τα πάντα καταστρέφονται στη φωτιά από την οποία έρχεται η ζωή και ο θάνατος στο σύμπαν. Η θεωρία της εκπύρωσης που αναφέρεται στη συνεχή εναλλαγή μεταξύ γέννησης και θανάτου του Σύμπαντος είναι ανάλογη με τη θεωρία της Μεγάλης Κρίσης. Abstract: A key element of Heraclitus cosmology is its reference to fire as the principle and substrate of all natural processes. But apart from the material element of the fire, Heraclitus also mentions another kind of fire, the thunderbolt, which is characterized by the existence of intellect. His cosmology, however, is characterized by the ekpyroseis, that comes from the advancing of fire which is called in Greek κόρος (= saturation). and is related to the phenomenon of ekpyroseis where everything is destroyed in the fire from which comes life and death in the Universe. The theory of ekpyroseis which refers to the constant alternation between the birth and the death of the Universe is analogous to the theory of Big Crunch.

The  environment  is  a  right  and  possession  which  belongs  to  the  wider  natural  world of  Man.  The  very  Constitution  sets  parameters  concerning  the  forest  as  declared  in Article  24  of  the  Greek  Constitution,  something  which  is  an  exception  for  most  rights  have  a  general  interpretation.  As  a  result,  this  declaration  of  duty  is  transferred  to our  public  legislator.  Many  sectors  of  the  legal  system  mainly  the  law  concerning  the  public  is  entrusted  with  the  legal  protection and rights of the natural environment.
Environment  protection  is  moving  in  this  direction  and  the  basic  rights  of protection is declared and upheld by the Council State Affairs. 
Every individual citizen is protected in the eyes of the law and according to strict guidelines concerning the protection of the natural environment private property cannot be violated neither by fellow citizens nor the State which must provide appropriate legal aid and consultation to the individuals.
However,  it  is  this  exercising  of  natural  environment  rights  which  can  come into conflict and opposition with other fundamental constitutional rights. In this case the removal of the conflict can only be accomplished by weighing both sides.

Το περιβάλλον είναι ένα δικαίωμα και αγαθό που σχετίζεται με τον ευρύτερο φυσικό κόσμο του ανθρώπου. Το ίδιο το Σύνταγμα δεν προβαίνει σε ορισμούς με εξαίρεση την Ερμηνευτική δήλωση του άρθρου 24 Συντάγματος σχετικά με τα δάση. Έτσι αυτό το καθήκον καταλείπετε στο κοινό νομοθέτη. Πολλοί κλάδοι του δικαίου, κυρίως όμως ο δημόσιος είναι επιφορτισμένοι με τη νομική προστασία του δικαιώματος στο φυσικό περιβάλλον.
Προς αυτή την κατεύθυνση της προστασίας κινούνται και οι βασικές αρχές της προστασίας του όπως διατυπώθηκαν από τη νομολογία του ΣτΕ.
Το δικαίωμα στο φυσικό περιβάλλον ασκείται από το δικαιούχο του εναντίον οποιουδήποτε το παραβαίνει είτε πρόκειται για το κράτος, είτε για απλό ιδιώτη με τα κατάλληλα ένδικα βοηθήματα.
Όμως ακριβώς αυτή η άσκηση του δικαιώματος δύναται να έρθει σε σύγκρουση με άλλα συνταγματικώς θεμελιωμένα δικαιώματα. Σε αυτή την περίπτωση η άρση της σύγκρουσης θα γίνει μέσω της στάθμισης των συγκρουόμενων δικαιωμάτων.

Το βασικό χαρακτηριστικό των Ευέλικτων Συστημάτων Παραγωγής είναι η αυτοματοποίηση. Συνδυασμός των υπολογιστών με τις τεχνολογίες αυτομάτου ελέγχου και μηχανών για την κατασκευή συστημάτων παραγωγής. Ο αυτοματισμός ασχολείται όχι μόνο με τη μηχανοποίηση απλών και σύνθετων μεθόδων παραγωγής, αλλά και με τα συστήματα μεταφοράς και ελέγχου που τις συνδέουν.

In this chapter, written in collaboration with Marina Rodosthenous-Balafa, and entitled "Vitsentzos Kornaros – Dionysios Solomos: The use of literary paradigms of the 16th and the 19th century in intercultural education", I attempt to show how Solomos combines in an “hybrid but legitimate” way the two main sources of his poetic expression, the Italian tradition and the Greek folk songs, focusing on those interesting phenomena of “metric switching” in which the Italian 11-syllable verse and the 15-syllable verse complement each other in the construction of the poem. I also deal with the stylistic “Italianisms”, i.e. the syntactic structures and other elements of the Italian literary idiom, which constitute the most distinctive features of Solomos’ poetic expression in Greek, giving a series of examples from his early and mature oeuvre.

ΑΡΙΘΜΟΙ ΤΟΥ BELL «Οδηγημένοι από το αίσθημα συμμετρίας, απλότητας και γενικά μιας απροσδιόριστης αίσθησης του συνταιριάσματος των πραγμάτων, οι δημιουργικοί μαθηματικοί τώρα, όπως και στο παρελθόν, εμπνέονται περισσότερο από την τέχνη των μαθηματικών παρά από την προοπτική κάποιας απώτερης χρησιμότητας» Eric Temple Bell. Περίληψη Οι σχέσεις Μαθηματικών και Τέχνης ήταν ανέκαθεν στενές. Η τάξη, λοιπόν, η ισορροπία και η συμμετρία που γενικά χαρακτηρίζουν τα Μαθηματικά, βρίσκονται μέσα στο νου και στην αφηρημένη σκέψη. Γι' αυτό εξάλλου τα μαθηματικά δεν είναι μόνον επιστήμη αλλά και τέχνη, δηλαδή έκφραση εσωτερική του ανθρώπου με δικούς της νόμους, που στηρίζονται σε μια βαθιά αίσθηση αρμονίας, αναλογίας και μέτρου. Στην εργασία αυτή παρουσιάζουμε ένα από τα πεδία όπου τα Μαθηματικά και οι εικαστικές Τέχνες συναντιούνται: τους αριθμούς Bell, τις φόρμες απεικόνισης που δημιούργησε ο Robert M. Dickau , με τις οποίες ο γαλλο-αμερικανός καλλιτέχνης Jean Constant φιλοτέχνησε μια σειρά ψηφιακών εικόνων απίθανης ομορφιάς. Ξεκινώντας από αριθμούς Stirling δευτέρου είδους ορίζουμε τους αριθμούς Bell ,τις μορφές τους και ιδιότητές τους. Στη συνέχεια παρουσιάζονται τα διαγράμματα και πλέγματα του μαθηματικού Robert Dickau για τους αριθμούς Bell και στο τέλος τα έργα τέχνης που δημιούργησε ο καλλιτέχνης Jean Constant.

The need of public access databases in modern biomedical research and to other
disciplines is well-attested, provided that they are easily accessible, user-friendly,
compiled with quality critaeria ensuring and bolstering their use and the data provided
are dependable, straightforward in meaning and presented in usable form (effectoriented
data bases). The organization, maintenance and presentation of such
databases are expensive and laborious tasks, thus encompassing significant funding.
Their promotion and use, though, should follow some standards and rules and be
coupled with compatible research project structure, reviewing and granting, a
combination which will allow fruitful use of databases’ resources and help avoid
previous misconceptions in the management and allocation of the related research
resources. The objective is to avoid the pitfalls of the past and to further the
trustworthiness of the data provided early on the creation of a database which by
definition is not only limited but also of poorer quality and limited uniformity, and
structure research projects accordingly so as to allow limited but reliable use of such
resources as early as possible with little risk for the user.

ΠΕΡΙΛΗΨΗ Η παρούσα εργασία αποτελεί µια πρόταση διδασκαλίας µε το λογισµικό Simulink στο γνωστικό αντικείµενo αποσβένουσες ταλαντώσεις, στο µάθηµα της φυσικής. Παρουσιάζει τις δυνατότητες του προγράµµατος για γραφική απεικόνιση και µοντελοποίηση φυσικών συστηµάτων. ∆ίνονται τα βασικά χαρακτηριστικά που παρουσιάζει ως διδακτικό βοήθηµα. ∆ηµιουργούνται δύο διαφορετικές προσεγγίσεις µε το λογισµικό για τη διδασκαλία του ίδιου διδακτικού αντικειµένου χρησιµοποιώντας µαθηµατικό µοντέλο και ηλεκτρικό κύκλωµα. Υπάρχει ενδεικτική πορεία εργασίας των µαθητών κατά τη διδασκαλία και συµπεράσµατα, που αφορούν την ευελιξία του λογισµικού στην ανάπτυξη διαφορετικών διδακτικών εφαρµογών και τη διαδραστικότητα που παρουσιάζει µε το χρήστη.

Abstract The period of teaching practice is an important part of preservice physical education teachers’ education, with significant consequences for their professional development. However, the transition from university to school classes is a reality shock for the majority of them, with fundamental difficulties during the application of theory to practice. The aim of the present research is the presentation of the “Lesson Study” model, which is a model of systematic and cooperative analysis of teaching, as it was applied on the teaching practice of preservice physical education teachers of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sport Science (DPESS), of the University of Athens in Greece. ABSTRACT : A case history of soil liquefaction and lateral spreading, which occurred at the coastal zone of Kato Achaia during the Achaia-Ilia, Greece earthquake of June 8, 2008 (M W =6.5), is reported. The results of a subsurface exploration conducted in the liquefied zone are presented whereas the intensity of surface motion in the area is evaluated based on attenuation relations and strong motion recordings of the main sock. The observed behavior is compared to estimates based on current liquefaction susceptibility criteria and on semi empirical correlations between liquefaction triggering and the results of in-situ tests (SPT, CPT, V SO).

ΠΕΡΙΛΗΨΗ : Οι βλάβες που προκαλούνται στις ανθρώπινες κατασκευές από την ισχυρή σεισμική κίνηση συσχετίζονται με τις τοπικές εδαφικές συνθήκες δηλαδή με την απόκριση του εδάφους υπό σεισμική διέγερση. Για τον υπολογισμό της επίδρασης των τοπικών εδαφικών συνθηκών στη σεισμική κίνηση στον ευρύτερο χώρο που καταλαμβάνει η πόλη των Γρεβενών πραγματοποιήθηκαν μέτρήσεις εδαφικού θορύβου σε σχετικά ομοιόμορφο κάνναβο 60 συνολικά μετρήσεων. Πριν τη διεξαγωγή των μετρήσεων πραγματοποιήθηκε έλεγχος ημερήσιων μεταβολών του εδαφικού θορύβου από μόνιμο εγκατεστημένο δίκτυο οργάνων σε τέσσερις επιλεγμένες θέσεις μέσα στην πόλη των Γρεβενών. Η διαταραχή του εδαφικού θορύβου εντοπίζεται κυρίως στις εργάσιμες ώρες τις ημέρας (8:00-16:00) στις οποίες πρέπει να αποφεύγεται η μέτρηση εδαφικού θορύβου. Η επεξεργασία των μετρήσεων έγινε με τη μέθοδο του φασματικού λόγου της οριζόντιας προς την κατακόρυφη συνιστώσα (Horizontal to Vertical Spectral Ratio ή HVSR) και για κάθε σημείο μέτρησης προέκυψε η θεμελιώδης ιδιοσυχνότητα (f 0 ) των επιφανειακών ιζηματογενών στρωμάτων, το πλάτος ενίσχυσης της εδαφικής κίνησης (A 0 ) και ο δείκτης τρωτότητας εδαφικών σχηματισμών K g (=A 0 2 /f 0 ). Τα αποτελέσματα συγκρίθηκαν με τα διαθέσιμα γεωλογικά και γεωτεχνικά δεδομένα καθώς και με συνθετικές καταγραφές εδαφικού θορύβου δείχνοντας καλή συσχέτιση στις περισσότερες θέσεις. Με βάση την παραπάνω ανάλυση προέκυψε ένας προκαταρκτικός χάρτης κατηγοριοποίησης των εδαφικών σχηματισμών για την πόλη των Γρεβενών.

Μπορούμε μόνο να σκεφτούμε ως προς το γιατί αυτά τα χρώματα χρησιμοποιήθηκαν αρχικά στη βιομηχανία. Τα διαφορετικά χρώματα προκαλούν τις διαφορετικές συγκινήσεις στους ανθρώπους. Το κόκκινο γενικά συμβολίζει τον κίνδυνο ή την προειδοποίηση, έτσι το κάνει μια καλή επιλογή για "τη στάση". Το πράσινο λειτουργεί ως ηρεμηστικό σε μας, πιθανώς επειδή υπαρχεί σε ποσότητα στη φύση και είναι ένα σημάδι της υγείας και της αφθονίας, έτσι το κάνει μια κάλη επιλογή στο συμβολισμό του "προχώρα".

Early identification and intervention in children belonging to special populations constitutes a very important factor for future cognitive, social and emotional development as well as for their adjustment to the school context. The purpose of this research was the investigation of language and learning skills in Roma and non Roma children belonging to high risk group for developing learning difficulties. This research is part of the program "Roma Education '(Sub-project: Psychosocial and Learning Intervention for Roma and non-Roma children). The aim of the sub-project “Learning Intervention” was the early identification of low achievers' learning needs attending schools with a high percentage of Roma students, with the aim of implementing  intervention programs in the second phase. The sample consisted of 112 children attending kindergartens and primary schools in Attica. More specifically, 41 children attended Kindergarten (29 children (70.7%) Roma and 12 (29.3%) non-Roma), 40 children attended first grade primary school (34 children (85%) Roma and 6 (15%) non-Roma). Finally, 31 children attended second grade primary school (20 children (64.5%) Roma and 11 (35.5%) non-Roma). The evaluation of language and learning skills was based both on individual assessments and rating skills completed by teachers. Specifically, children’s expressive and receptive vocabulary, the literacy skills (phonological awareness, reading and writing), narrative skills, and their performance according to their teachers, were evaluated. The results highlighted that Roma children faced particular difficulties in all measures compared to non-Roma children who belonged to the high risk group. High correlations were found between language and narrative skills for Roma children. It was noted that the factor of age intensified the differences in performance between the two groups. The results are discussed in relation to the implementation of intervention programs in order to respond to the learning needs of students.

The starting point of the research is the change in the demographic map of Greece from the years 1989-1990 onwards with the arrival of immigrants, mainly from Eastern European countries and Albania. Even though immigrant children in Greece are mostly integrated in mainstream state schools, the required changes to render the Greek education substantively intercultural are still awaited. Furthermore, also the multicultural approach has been partly implemented, in cases where ethnic groups have established schools that operate on the basis the mother tongue and the culture of origin. An example is the Polish School of Athens. The thesis aims to examine the effectiveness of the multicultural approach through the study of the particular school in its normal and complementary function as ‘Savatiano’ and to show whether the Polish School keeps up with the current educational challenges. The case study conducted examines the views of students, teachers, parents and school alumni with an emphasis on aspects such as the choice of school by students and parents, the curriculum and teaching, the academic performance of students and the academic progress of graduates, the relations developed outside or inside the school community, the language and identity developed by students. The research has shown that, although the school generally demonstrates positive educational outcomes, it could invest more in the development of additive bilingualism and bicultural identity, so thatthe graduates of the normal and the complementary function are able to be successfully integrated both in the Polish and in the Greek cultural context,as well as in the wider European and international environment.

Στην παρούσα εργασία παρουσιάζεται μία αναλυτική πρόταση για την έγκαιρη εκτίμηση του κόστους και των απαιτούμενων ποσοτήτων για την κατασκευή γεφυρών στην Ελλάδα, βασισμένη στην στατιστική επεξεργασία πραγματικών δεδομένων από την κατασκευή 57 γεφυρών του αυτοκινητοδρόμου της Εγνατίας Οδού κατά την προηγούμενη δεκαετία προκειμένου να βοηθήσει τα ενδιαφερόμενα μέρη του κλάδου της κατασκευής γεφυρών στην επιλογή της οικονομικότερης λύσης μειώνοντας έτσι τον κίνδυνο της αποτυχίας και της απώλειας χρηματοδότησης.

Περίληψη: Στο άρθρο αυτό περιγράφονται οι εµπειρίες από την εισαγωγή τεχνικών συνεργατικής µάθησης στο πλαίσιο της ανοικτής και εξ αποστάσεως εκπαίδευσης. Συγκεκριµένα παρουσιάζει τις εµπειρίες από την εφαρµογή ενός υπολογιστικού συστήµατος που υλοποιεί τη σύγχρονη συνεργατική εξάσκηση των φοιτητών µίας εισαγωγικής ενότητας του προγράµµατος σπουδών "Πληροφορική" του Ελληνικού Ανοικτού Πανεπιστηµίου (ΕΑΠ). Χρησιµοποιήθηκε το Synergo, ένα λογισµικό που υλοποιεί peer to peer συνεργασία αυτής της µορφής δια µέσω συνδέσεων Internet χαµηλού bandwidth. Το άρθρο περιγράφει τις οργανωτικές, τεχνολογικές και εκπαιδευτικές προκλήσεις που αντιµετωπίσθηκαν, καθώς και τα συµπεράσµατα από την ανάλυση της συνεργασίας των φοιτητών.
