Bio-Climatic Design

According to experts, if a prescription is to be written to change and improve the quality of human life, it should be based on self-awareness, which involves getting to know oneself and one's surroundings. One of the sources of self-awareness is the environment. The living environment has the ability to use a set of environmental affordances to achieve self-awareness criteria. From this point of view, housing, which is most closely related to the evolving human life and subsequently the residential complex, is brought up due to the necessity of knowing the way of thinking and perceiving a whole, considering the high sociability of this type of housing. This article, as a scientific approach, seeks the relationship between the residential complex environment and self-awareness, based on a combination of fundamental and exploratory research, which is combined (qualitative and quantitative) in the implementation process. Qualitative research collects library information in a descriptive-analytical way and then in an exploratory way through interviews. Questionnaires were distributed among the residents of the residential complexes of Mashhad and the analysis was done using structural equation modeling and second-order confirmatory factor analysis with SmartPLS software. The results indicate that self-awareness in relation to the environment has five levels (differentiation, location, identification, permanence and meta) and mysterious passage, continuity of scenarios, functional organization, identifiability and the presence of nature are respectively the most effective environmental affordances in the mentioned levels. In determining the importance of levels, the level of permanence, which provides the possibility of self-recognition in different conditions and times by the environment, was determined as the most important level of self-awareness in the residential complex. Meanwhile, physical affordances were more effective than other affordances in providing self-awareness levels, and other caffordances alone were not able to provide self-awareness levels in the residential complex.

Different amount of social capital in different urban planning and designing would significantly enhance the quality of urban life. In high levels of social capital, the social interaction among residents will boost, and convention and the feel of belonging to the neighborhood will influence. The condition in itself will intrigue development. The study aimed at boosting social capital through spatial planning in selected urban neighborhoods of Sari city, Iran. It tried to answer the question that what considerations and strategies of spatial planning can enhance social capital. The applied research uses a mixed method of survey and document studies. The data on evaluating the social capital in selected neighborhoods were gathered through questionnaires filled by residents, exploring documents and field observations. The data were analyzed using statistics tests, map analysis regarding the criteria of the theoretical framework. Using force field analysis technique, a synopsis and suggestions were provided. The results indicated that the amount of social capital and its difference in terms of the level in the studied neighborhoods show the influence of difference of formation and physical differences in neighboring neighborhoods. Moreover, connectivity, diversity, security, and feature may influence the amount of capital of urban neighborhoods. So, such issues will help the enhance of social capital: increase in the per capita of green space and public space, variety in passages, considering the quality of footpaths, making signs, appropriate distribution of services, boosting public transportation, and considering local facilities with an expanded access to provide security.

Climate-responsive building design holds immense potential for enhancing comfort, energy efficiency, and environmental sustainability. However, many social, cultural, and economic obstacles might prevent the wide adoption of designing climate-adapted buildings. One of these obstacles can be removed by enabling practitioners to easily access, visualize and analyze local climate data. The CBE Clima Tool (Clima) is a free and open-source web application that offers easy access to publicly available weather files and has been created for building energy simulation and design. It provides a series of interactive visualizations of the variables contained in the EnergyPlus Weather Files and several derived ones like the UTCI or the adaptive comfort indices. It is aimed at students, educators, and practitioners in the architecture and engineering fields. Since its inception, Clima's user base has exhibited robust growth, attracting over 25,000 unique users annually from across 70 countries. Our tool is poised to revolutionize climate-adaptive building design, transcending geographical boundaries and fostering innovation in the architecture and engineering fields.

Today, ecotourism is deemed a key industry and is granted a special position in the economic development of different countries. This industry has always faced risks in making decisions about selecting places with high ecotourism potential. Therefore, the purpose of this study was the assessment of ecotourism development capability in rural areas, with an emphasis on the environmental risk-taking in decision-making. In this study, 12 spatial criteria were used. Ordered weighted average (OWL), analytic network process (ANP), TOPSIS, and sensitivity analysis were used to assess the concept of decision-making risk, calculate the weight and importance of the criteria, rate the appropriate villages, and assess the modeling precision, respectively. The results showed that among the used criteria, the distance from the built lands and the distance from faults have the highest and lowest weight, respectively. With the increase and decrease in the risk-taking degree, the high potential class space increases and decreases, respectively, such that in the risktaking degree of 0 or less, less than one percent and in the risk-taking degree of 1, thirty-five percent of all lands of the area fall in the "very high potential" class. The examination of the appropriate villages in the 0.5 risk-taking degree for ecotourism development showed that among all Mazandaran province villages, only 55 villages are in the "very high potential" class. Among these, Aali Kola with the relative distance of 0.8505 is the most capable village for ecotourism development. Finally, the results of sensitivity analysis revealed the adequate stability of the model results in various scenarios, i.e., the high reliability of the model results.

The mission of the present trans-disciplinary community environmental project COLridor (Davidová, 2017b) is to generate a situation of eco-systemic co-living across local species and the abiotic agency in an urban environment through their co-design. Located in the city centre of Prague, the case study biotope is part of larger bio-corridor that has evolved, namely due to the adjacent railway and water stream. Though the prevailing opinion of European urbanists is that cities should remain dense and separate from the rest of nature, landscape ecologists and biologists tend to disagree. There is no nature on Earth without human beings, and these together evolved, reflecting each other's impacts and interactions. Therefore, there is also no social justice without the environmental one and vice versa. A large variety of species have adapted and evolved for life in the urban environment, which at the moment for many, offers a safer and more habitable living environment than agricultural land with its herbicides, pests, antibiotics and antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Through systematically co-designed and cocreated so-called eco-systemic 'prototypical urban interventions' (Doherty, 2005), the project aims to motivate the generation of an edible landscape and a social, cultural and habitable urban environment across species. It is claimed here that designers should no longer be designing for but rather designing with the overall ecosystem. This case study helps justify the first author's ratified design field Systemic Approach to Architectural Performance, covering a fusion of a variety of co-designs across the ecosystem in process-based fields.

نتیجه کلی این پژوهش بیان می دارد که برای رسیدن با جذابیت محیطی باید به تمامی عوامل و فاکتور های فضای شهری اهمیت
لازم را قائل شد و از همه مهم تر اکتفا به هویت و فرهنگ یک وادی است که موجب جذابیت یک فضا در سطح کشور و حتی بین
المللی در اعصار مختلف می گردد.

The process of adopting digital simulation and design tools into an existing procedural framework is tedious in that it requires a significant investment by the users. Software manufactures aim to create interfaces that can easily be understood and put into practice. That being said, other factors, such as the lack of climatic data, deter the quick absorption into professional practice. In a country such as Colombia, which is in a zone near the equator and is characterized by drastic differences in topography, the preprogrammed climatic data is insufficient. In this thesis, the concept of a technology hub is used to analyze the relationship between innovation and development. It utilizes the ability to realize how technology hubs affect growth. We argue that by serving as collaborative spaces, technology hubs can help human-centered development processes in ways related to employment or market-based goods. This promotes a human-centered development perspective that prioritizes
wellbeing and agency traits that people have good reason to value. The study's conceptual framework contends that innovation can promote human development if and when those involved recognize its benefits, which include advancing their own cultures and communities.

Today, it is difficult to find a successful urban design project in the country. The failure of urban design projects has become a goal for city managers and consulting firms. so far, many researches have been done in this regard, none of which has had an effect on this process. It is a mystery to citizens why all urban design projects are doomed to failure despite studies, researches and criticisms. The big project of Mashhad Martyrs' Square is no exception to this rule and has gained a name as one of the largest and most costly unsuccessful urban design projects. Therefore, the present applied research with the method of qualitative content analysis seeks to find the reasons for the failure of this project and by coding the interviews of experts and specialists in Maxqda software finally identified 24 major reasons in 9 dimensions.

Background: Nowadays, strengthening Patient safety culture has received widespread attention by healthcare organizations. The first step in improving the safety of the patient is to assess the safety culture of the hospital. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the strengths and weaknesses of Patient safety culture from the nurses' point of view. Methods: In a cross-sectional study, a convenient sample, including 214 nurses, was selected among nurses in Imam Reza university hospital, Kermanshah, 2016. Data were collected by a hospital survey on patient safety culture (HSOPSC) in 12 dimensions via self-reporting method and were analyzed with Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal–Wallis tests using SPSS 19 software. Many people prefer village eggs because of their good taste, bold yolk, and golden skin than commercial eggs, and some people are more interested in commercial eggs because of their production and expiration date codes, and the question always arises which one has a more desirable quality, so this research is aimed at comparing qualitative, microbial and oxidative parameters in the village and commercial eggs in Semnan. In this descriptive cross-sectional study, 75 village and 75 commercial egg samples were collected by random sampling method from retail stores of Semnan and transferred to food hygiene laboratory under cold and sterile conditions to determine qualitative parameters (Haugh unit, egg weight, yolk index, pH, yolk color) and also microbial and oxidative parameters. Village eggs in qualitative parameters except for weight had higher rates compared to commercial eggs (P<0.05) and in a* and L* color index there was no significant difference in the village and commercial samples. In terms of microbial and oxidative parameters, the comparison of averages showed that village eggs were significantly higher in the overall shell-level and internal egg mesophilic bacterial counts, as well as the village eggs, showed a higher amount of lipid peroxidation compared to commercial ones (P<0.05). The findings of this study showed that village eggs accounted for more in terms of bacterial counts and the rate of oxidative breakdown, but due to yellow color index and viscosity, they are more marketable than commercial eggs.

Background and Objective: Due to the expansion of cities, rivers are considered among the last places where somehow represent the presence of nature in cities. However this spaces are opportunities that have been abandoned and ignored, and despite much potential they propose, they are not being used properly. In this regard, the main objective of the present study is recovery and rehabilitation of rivers and streams which yet have been rendering only their first function as passing runoff while their other capacity is left unused. In this regard, with proper planning and management and the use of suitable strategies, such spaces can be restored to use cycle. Method: This study is a descriptive-analytical type and the data and information have been collected through field studies and and documents. This study examines the river of Shahrood as a case study. Data and information gathered are analyzed using the SWOT technique. Results: SWOT matrix analysis shows that the restoration of Shahrood River is highly important for transportation and diversification strategies. Similarly, the second, third and forth priorities are the use of aggressive strategies, defensive strategies and direction of change strategies, respectively. In addition, from special aspects, diversification strategies are more important than the others, and the second, third and forth priorities are use of aggressive strategies, defensive strategies and direction of change strategies, respectively. In this regard, in terms of environmental and recreational activities, diversification strategies are placed in first priority, defensive strategies are placed in second priority, aggressive strategies are placed in third priority and direction of change strategies are in fourth priority. Conclusion: In general, it can be concluded that rehabilitation of study area is the first priority for dealing with the threats of the external environment. Also results of SWOT analysis techniques show that variety of strategies is first priority for rehabilitation of study area. Therefore, it is must to adopt some mechanisms for prevention of negative impact of external threats using the strength of the internal environment.

The Psychrometric Chart tutorial is a downloadable animated tutorial application which explains the various features of the Psychrometric Chart and how it illustrates indoor or outdoor air conditions and their relation to human thermal comfort. This tutorial is written in Flash and various audio-visual techniques are incorporated to create an effective educational resource. This paper outlines the underpinning developmental theories for the tutorial program and subsequently describes, in detail, each of the features it presents: dry bulb temperature, absolute humidity, saturation line, relative humidity, wet bulb temperature, dew point temperature, precipitation, hourly data, comfort zones, and mechanical systems. It is concluded with user feedback and indications of future enhancements.

Buildings are the world’s largest consumer of energy, accounting for 34% of total use. In the United States residential and commercial buildings are responsible for 72% of electricity use and 40% of CO2 emissions. In order to reduce the impact of buildings on the environment and to utilize freely available environmental resources, building design must be based on site climate conditions, e.g. solar radiation and air temperature. This paper presents a web-based framework that enables the production of user-generated visualizations of weather data. The Open Graphic Evaluative Framework (Open GEF) was developed using the Graphic Evaluative Frameworks (GEF) approach to authoring design-assistant software, which is more appropriate than the now dominant ‘generalized design tool’ approach when supporting design processes that require a high level of calibration to the cyclic and acyclic shifting of environmental resources. This article argues that whilst our recent economic models are dependent on the overall ecosystem, they do not reflect this fact. As a result of this, we are facing Anthropocene mass extinction. The paper presents a collaborative regenerative region (COLreg) co-creation and tokenisation, involving multiple human and non-human, living and non-living stakeholders. It unfolds different stages of multicentred, systemic co-design via collaborative gigamapping. In the first steps, certain stakeholders are present and certain are represented, whilst in the final stages of generative development, all stakeholders, even those who were previously just potential stakeholders, take an active role. The 'COLreg' project represents a holistic approach that reflects today's most burning issues, such as biodiversity decrease, unsustainable food production, unsustainable economic models, and social systems. It combines top-down and bottom-up approaches to co-create to achieve regional social and environmental justice for the coming symbiotic post-Anthropocene era.

Our goal is to develop a climatic classification system that extends understanding of human comfort and guides the design of buildings to provide greater thermal comfort to occupants and buildings that consume less energy. We propose that using k-means clustering with multivariate climate data a classification system can be defined to objectively represent comfort zones in the tropics. Our study focuses on Colombia, but the approach extends to other countries located in the tropics.

Understanding local climate is a critical factor in the design of buildings that requires continuous research to widen its scope, deepen base information and seek data correlations. In tropical regions climate varies greatly across relatively small areas, changes in altitude and geography define conditions that add complexity to typical climate patterns. Paucity of data makes understanding tropical climates difficult. Scarcity of design strategies and computational tools designed for the tropics means bio-climatic design and basic low-energy strategies are poorly understood and underutilised. Urban spaces as places for everyone, should provide a position for pause and contemplation and reduce the rush of modern life. Therefor, it is neccesary to determining indicators for designing pause spaces. Urban plazas should have different spatial-physical features such as form, space, details, material texture and etc. that all accompany for achieving a pause space. In this paper types of plazas and urban squares and their features and functions are introduced; then, a checklist for designing urban plazas will be presented according to time-Saver Standard (Urban Design) criterions and studying successful cases and their features around the world. In the following, Mashhad's Shohada Square will be evaluated according to presented checklist by field observations and photography for considering events. According to the results, Mashhad's Shohada Square is relatively responsive space to user's physical- spatial needs with the consent of 58 percent.

The paper discusses a result of transdisciplinary cooperation of architectural practice and association Collaborative Collective (Collaborative Collective 2016; Collaborative Collective 2012) structural and mechanical engineering practice Experis DSKM (Experis DSKM 2016; Experis DSKM 2012) and ecologist association CooLAND (CooLAND 2016a; CooLAND 2016b) on competition entry project for an administrative centre of the Forests of the Czech Republic state company (Lesy České republiky 2012; Lesy České republiky 2016): the Responsive Transformer (see Figure 1). The core of the call was innovative use of wood, flexibility in development over time, energy efficiency, sustainability and environmental approach, taking in consideration adjacent forests and villa like area. Throughout the history, vernacular built environment was tested and modified according to abiotic as well as biotic, including socio-cultural, context over time, generating onion principle of different layers of climatic environments with different penetrations in relation to each other (Davidová 2016a; Davidová 2016b). The project is applying different peals exchanges through bio-morphing wooden screens responsive to weather conditions, coexistence with local, micro-climate modulating eco-systems as well as ground excavated climates. As in the past, such settings were constantly rebuilt for new needs in time, recent fast climate, society and technology changes call for equal response in natural and built environment adaptations. Inspired by the R&Sie(n)’s New Territories pioneering project in the field (Roche 2010; R&Sie(n) 2014), the project suggests options for its robotic architectural retransformations (Petrš 2016) towards fully adaptable design, combining both, biological and material responsiveness with physical computing for the parts, that are not transformable through biology in the current state of research for application in today practice.

Today, the pedestrian oriented movement, whose goal is to retrieve and expand pedestrian spaces on the face of the city, and to recognize and give priority to pedestrians as first rate elements of the city, has turned into one of the axes of programming and urban design. Especially with the beginning of the third millennium, renewed necessity of pedestrian movement as the most healthy, economic and dynamic method of movement and inner city transportation has attracted experts and leaders of urban affairs. Factors such as significant increase in movement time, increase in accidents, increase in sound and visual pollution and air pollution which is getting close to the borders of creating health threats for humans, are the consequences of the unstable urban transportation system. In addition, obstacles such as lack of funding for infrastructure, lack of safety and security, improper positioning of spaces and buildings , legal and regulatory obstacles and finally, lack of credibility and social status exist in the path of development of the non-motor-ized transportation network. The results of the experiences of other countries indicate that stability cannot be reached only with changes in design, models of utilization and management of transportation systems, but with changes in mentality and way of thinking towards identification and evaluation of possible solutions for solving the problems of transportation. Therefore in this research we first have a brief overview of the concepts of sustainable urban transport, then we study walking and cycling and their effect as effective methods of non-motorized transportation, along with strategies for reaching sustainable development in desirable urban form, in the area of 2nd Sadeqieh square (located in zone 2 of the municipality of Tehran) which have been analyzed and evaluated using a mixed model of SWOT and Likert, in order to use benefits of applying these strategies and developing them in the country. This research has been done with the support of the Institute of municipalities and village council of the country.

The Psychrometric Chart tutorial is a downloadable
animated tutorial application which explains the various
features of the Psychrometric Chart and how it illustrates
indoor or outdoor air conditions and their relation to human
thermal comfort. This tutorial is written in Flash and various
audio-visual techniques are incorporated to create an
effective educational resource. This paper outlines the
underpinning developmental theories for the tutorial
program and subsequently describes, in detail, each of the
features it presents: dry bulb temperature, absolute
humidity, saturation line, relative humidity, wet bulb
temperature, dew point temperature, precipitation, hourly
data, comfort zones, and mechanical systems. It is
concluded with user feedback and indications of future
enhancements.
