Resumo: Fundamentando-se na concepção de fantasia, forma/ideia e modelagem sonora no pensamento de Hanslick; de princípio quantitativo segundo a tradição pitagórica no estudo da relação música/número/cosmos; e, de princípio qualitativo segundo a teoria crítico/filosófica da mímesis em Aristóteles, no presente artigo busca-se propor parâmetros que possam contribuir para se abordar crítico-interpretativamente as possíveis interconexões entre música e contexto de pensamento. Por meio do debate entre estes três autores, discute-se sobre a possibilidade de que o contexto de pensamento tenderia a influenciar o pensar música, contribuindo para o estabelecimento de novas proposições quanto à própria natureza da arte musical; que, como consequência, no fazer música, o material sonoro, por suas propriedades e características quantitativas/qualitativas, poderia ser valorado e combinado em função desta interconexão. This article investigates Beethoven's Fidelio as a site of dialectical rupture and musical praxis, emphasizing the theoretical lens of Theodor W. Adorno and the Hegelian framework of dialectics. The opera's characters, Florestan and Leonore, are analyzed as manifestations of Beethoven's own internal fissures, particularly in relation to his deafness and his confrontation with historical and social constraints. Drawing on Adorno's reflections, the study shows how the opera externalizes Beethoven's subjective rupture, rendering a dialectical interplay between hope and despair, freedom and constraint, and interiority and exteriority audible and perceptible. Fidelio is thus read as a unique convergence of musical form, dramatic narrative, and philosophical praxis, in which the artist's consciousness, life, and creative act are unified through the dialectical process. The paper argues that the opera exemplifies the realization of Adorno's notion of praxis in music, where the composer's life and work constitute a dialectical totality, even amidst inherent rupture and tension. 1 This paper is based on a part of the author's M.A. thesis, published in Farsi under the title “An Enquiry concerning Beethoven’s extra-musical thought, through Hegel’s Subject-Object dialectic.”

Evento clou nella “pazza” programmazione del festival MITO è stato il No Concerto di Simon-Steen Andersen. Una versione ricreata appositamente e ampiamente modificata, rispetto alla prima eseguita a febbraio a Colonia. Questo lavoro, che si confrontava in maniera spettacolare e “fantascientifica” con il Quarto Concerto per pianoforte di Beethoven, aveva per protagonista uno scienziato-archeologo (l’attore Vinicio Marchioni) che, in un lontano futuro, dissotterra un vecchio registratore e un nastro magnetico con una registrazione live del concerto beethoveniano. Quindi, collegando il registratore a una camera di “eco-localizzazione inversa”, riesce ad entrare nello spazio da cui provenivano questi misteriosi segnali acustici, aggirandosi, in tuta da astronauta, tra orchestrali (dell’Orchestra della RAI), direttore (Robert Treviño) e solista (Rei Nakamura). Il suo resoconto, insieme rigoroso e stupefatto, si mescolava con l’esecuzione di frammenti beethoveniani soffocati, “stretchati”, ma riconoscibili, in un crescendo di emozione che alla fine lo travolgeva. Il video del vecchio registratore, l’elettronica, le luci intermittenti che lampeggiavano nel buio al ritmo di quella malcerta riproduzione musicale, il respiro affannoso dell'astronauta, contribuivano a creare un’atmosfera piene di suspense, in un lavoro emblematico dello musica di Steen-Andersen, che usa, come materiali della composizione, non solo i suoni, ma anche gesti, parole, immagini, musiche preesistenti, elementi realizzati dal vivo o preregistrati e ricombinati in modo da spiazzare le prospettive di ascolto. Nello stesso concerto si è ascoltato uno dei più recenti capolavori orchestrali di Lisa Streich, Ishjärta dove si contrapponeva un materiale accordale denso, caldo e pulsante, come il “cuore”, e uno strato gelido come il “ghiaccio” come una coltre statica e nebbiosa che lasciava però affiorare esplosioni improvvise e una melodia lontana, appena percepibile. In un altro concerto Gianandrea Noseda ha diretto l’ottima Filarmonica TRT in una trascinante e nitidissima esecuzione della Settima di Beethoven e dei frammenti sinfonici della Donna Serpente di Casella, svelandone tutte l’energia ritmica e la ricchezza di colori. Unico neo della serata, Lyric for strings di George Walker, pezzo banale, prevedibile, brutta copia dell’Adagio di Barber.

Simone Gatto, Kappellmeister of the Archducal Chapel in Graz, composed three Magnificats. One of them, Magnificat primi toni, uses the plainchant canticle tone. The usage of this plainchant form places Gatto’s Magnificat stylistically between his predecessor Annibale Padovano and Orlando di Lasso.

During the era of standardization and demythologization, especially after the reign of the recording industry, the music gradually began to lose its magical function-its power to affect the audience. Modern society, with its preference for neutrality and domination, tends to cultivate a condition of being nonaffected. Yet throughout history, true musicians have always resisted the mechanical habits of performance as well as the regressive habits of listening. Today, however, institutionalized musical cultures rarely concern themselves with the question of how the great masters of European music-Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven-actually performed their own works. It is as if there were a tacit assumption that they played in the same metronomic, flattened, and unnuanced manner that prevails today. Against this universal misconception, we can begin to recognize the tools necessary for reviving the authentic impact of those great masters' performances as they were first intended for the audience par excellence; and this endeavor must be rigorously distinguished from the pseudohistorical fabrications obstinately pursued under the banner of HIP, which reduce performance practice to a sterile antiquarianism rather than a living artistic truth. Silence and fermata must be restored to their original expressive weight; fingersatz should be guided by C. P. E. Bach's principles of passageplaying in clavier music; and most crucially, tempo must be understood as it was originally conceived-free from the tyranny of modern metronomism. At the same time, inspired by the theatre, every recital and concert should embrace a progressive idea of defamiliarizing the repertoire, re-enchanting the listener, and reopening the mythic space of performance.

No pensamento de Theodor W. Adorno (1901Adorno ( -1968)), o conceito de mímesis nos fornece, se tomado como impulso de dominação, o modelo necessário para a dominação da natureza e para a dominação social, assim como seu desdobramento dialético nos fornece uma crítica imanente à noção de que a teoria do conhecimento se restringe a um problema da consciência. Para clarificar isso, proponho um panorama da teoria do conhecimento à luz do texto-conferência Ideia de História Natural (1932); em seguida, apresentarei rapidamente as noções de mimetismo e mímesis encontradas na Dialética do Esclarecimento (1945), para discutir a relação entre a noção de segunda natureza e mímesis, e como que esses modelos propostos aparecem tanto na teoria do conhecimento quanto nas relações sociais. Proponho, nesse sentido, uma reflexão sobre o conceito de mímesis que dialogue com a possibilidade de que ela possa ser compreendida tanto como fundamento do conhecimento quanto da sociabilidade, bem como proponho que, esses dois conceitos, estão em relação na construção do modelo de dominação moderno.

Il y a une quarantaine d’années, sous l'impulsion de recherches menées dans les domaines de la biosémiotique et de la philosophie, François-Bernard Mâche proposait de créer une nouvelle discipline : la zoomusicologie. Se concentrer sur les émissions sonores des animaux, décrire leur articulation pour rechercher, dans les résultats obtenus, des analogies avec les catégories d’organisation de la musique humaine comptaient parmi ses objectifs.  Si la perspective est originale et fondatrice d’un nouveau champ d’étude, elle semble en même temps relancer un intérêt qui s’était déjà manifesté — et continue de se manifester sous différentes formes — dans plusieurs domaines de la connaissance scientifique, mais aussi de la pratique artistique, de l’antiquité jusqu’à nos jours. De la poésie à la musique, de la philosophie aux neurosciences, de la bioacoustique à l’éthologie, les voix des animaux, musicales ou non, ont constitué pour les savants et pour les artistes une source inépuisable de connaissance et d'inspiration. Présenter les résultats de ces observations et susciter la confrontation entre plusieurs disciplines s’intéressant aux émissions sonores des animaux et à leur signification constituent les objectifs de cette journée d’étude interdisciplinaire.

Keine Krankheit ist rein medizinisch indiziert. Sondern immer sozial-psychologisch. Die Sozio-Kulturellen Verhältnisse spielen bei jeder Erkältung des Menschen mit eine Rolle. Die Natur, also der Körper des Menschen, seine Seele und auch sein Geist streben von alleine niemals nach dem "Bösen." Sondern dieses "Böse" bricht aus, bricht sich Bahn, wenn im gesamten System und im gesamten System-Verlauf des Lebens etwas nicht stimmt: die Natur alleine achtet darauf, daß in ihrem eigenen System eine optimale Verlaufsform stattfindet: denn die Natur weiß, daß nur dann sie auch optimal funktioniert und am Leben bleibt. Eine Erkältung also drückt dann aus, daß im gesamten System des Menschen etwas nicht stimmt: entweder hetzt er sich zu Tode bei schlechter Kleidung, oder er kann sich schlicht gar keine warme Kleidung und Wohnung leisten, oder er muß sich ständig dem Streß und der Angst aussetzen, um in den Bannkreis des Todes zu gelangen: Die Pest im Mittelalter war ebenso Ausdruck sozio-ökonomischer-kultureller Verhältnisse wie die Spanische Grippe in der Weimarer Republik: also wie in der Zeit von 1920 bis 1935 folgende. Das Virus bei Corona ist ebenso als ein gesellschaftliches Produkt anzusehen: Bill Gates hat dies, neben anderen Kontrahenten seiner Liga, prophezeit, und sogar positiv prognostiziert: der Kapitalismus brauche also so eine innere "Reinigung." Das Virus selber dann ist nicht nur in einem chinesischen Labor in China ausgebrochen, sondern es wurde vorher dort und auch woanders produziert: und zwar gesellschaftlich produziert. Die Natur alleine würde das nicht tun, denn sie weiß, daß sie damit ihr eigenes Todesurteil unterschreibt. Die Natur also ist immer auf optimale Daseins-Fürsorge angelegt. Sie sorgt so für sich, daß sie optimalerweise leben und überleben kann. Den Tod prognostiziert sie eher nicht. Denn dann wäre auch keine Natur mehr. Natur ist nur, wo Leben ist. Ein Virus aber, das auf die Vernichtung von Leben angelegt ist, zielt auf den Tod: und das ist natur-widrig. Das war und ist bei der Cholera so, bei Typhus und bei allen anderen Seuchen der Menschheit. Es liegt also das Prinzip des Todes alleine gar nicht in der Natur, sondern in der Gesellschaft: also im Menschen: und die Frage steht dann im Raum: warum? Warum also will der Mensch, der Homo Sapiens, das "Vernunftbegabte Lebewesen" (Aristoteles) nicht erkennen und nicht verhindern, daß die Natur als Todes-Fall über den Menschen, über die Gesellschaft hereinbricht? Warum also will ein Lebewesen, das zur Erkenntnis fähig ist, nicht erkennen, wo seine eigenen Todesstricke und Todesfallen liegen und stecken? Das ist die offene Frage, die ich hier in den Raum stelle.

In this paper, I argue that we hear sounds as immediately linked to objects.
We do not hear just disturbing events; we hear sounding objects. Anyway,
observing Sardinian vocal practice, it emerges a real problematic issue for
this approach and for ordinary intuition too (2+2=5). This issue gives us
a real good matter for philosophy of sound, primarily because we find out
that sounds stand in a relation of interpenetration, i.e., they are related
to each other. In this peculiar sense, sounds are something that happens –
objects-related events that encounter us – and, in this respect, they ask us
to redefine what an object is.

When playing a musical instrument, visually perceived musical symbols are translated into motor commands while simultaneously monitoring instrumental output, and receiving multi-sensory feedback. In addition, artistic and interpretational aspects have to be considered. First the mind has to have a clear idea of the music, tone, and movements of the playing apparatus (body) before starting to practise on the violin. It may be thought that repeated physical practice alone will result in achieving mastery as an instrumentalist, however what is essential is to be able to convey the mental perception of the movements to the hands. This article presents a cognitive approach to practising the violin; that is, practising by first seeing the musical symbols, identifying a musical structure, imagining the phrase, identifying the needed technique, taking notes, imagining the movements and the sensory feeling of the arms and hands especially, and the playing apparatus as a whole, together with ...

The article offers an overview of the main perspectives on the functions of music drawn from sociology and semiotics. A first section is devoted to the classical approaches by Mukarovsky, Jakobson, Lévi-Strauss, Stefani, Merriam, Adorno and Attali and is focused on music as perceived/consumed and produced in presence (Live). A second section faces the changes brought about by recorded music and focuses on a few functions such as background (décor), mobilization, competition and a plethora of functional uses.

Moderate autonomists argue that the process of interpretation and evaluation of artworks (as artworks) is governed by specific norms, which partially distinguishes the practice of art appreciation from all other practices of interpretation and evaluation. In my paper, I seek to answer the question of what model of aesthetic normativity moderate autonomists should work with. The classical, three-element model of aesthetic normativity characterizes the norms in question in terms of what they prescribe in relation to (i) the object of aesthetic experience, (ii) the manner of aesthetic experience, and (iii) the grasp of the intrinsic value of aesthetic experience (and, through it, of the artwork as artwork). I examine three theories: Alan H. Goldman's monistic value empiricist conception, Antonia Peacocke's pluralistic value empiricism, and Noël Carroll's externalist analysis of aesthetic experience. I argue that the moderate autonomist must opt for a theory of aesthetic normativity that works with a "broad" concept of artistically relevant qualities; moreover, the theory either introduces strong constraints on the mode of aesthetic experience or on artistic value. I argue that the theoretical goals of the moderate autonomist are better served by a theory that chooses the latter option than by one that chooses the former.

In der Haupthalle des Pariser Musée d'Orsay schwebte 2021 ein riesiger Bildschirm, auf dem rätselhafte Bilder zu sehen waren: Eis schollen, aus denen Feuersäulen aufsteigen, Mondlandschaften mit Pfützen in bizarren Farben, Geisterschiffe, die über Packeis gleiten, aber auch Blumen mit doppelten Stempeln, die wie geklont aussehen und eine Art postapokalyptisches Herbarium bilden. Im Kontext der Ausstellung Les ori gines du monde. L'invention de la nature au XIX siècle (Die Ur sprünge der Welt. Die Erfindung der Natur im 19. Jahrhundert) er öffnete Artificialis, eine eigens für das Museum entworfene Präsentation des Films von Laurent Grasso, neue Perspektiven auf unsere heutige Welt-eine Welt, in der die Idee einer eigenständigen Natur, wie sie im 19. Jahrhundert Konjunktur hatte, nicht mehr gültig ist, eine Welt, in der nichts mehr ursprünglich und in der es nicht nur sinnlos, sondern praktisch unmöglich geworden ist, das Natürliche vom Künstlichen zu trennen.

Continuously oscillating between the tragic spirit of the Greek and the titanic spirit of the man of the ‘new world’, Antonìn Dvořák’s music has been the subject of a large number of musicological and historiographical studies. The essay intends to move along the work of the Czech composer, with particular attention to Symphony No. 9 ‘From the New World’, to advance a philosophical reading of his peculiar musical narrative. Crossing the restless tension between classical and modern that marks all Dvořák’s artistic production and which his music so vividly embodies, I will thus try to think of the Master’s music as the unfolding of a true metaphysics; a metaphysics of the ‘here and now’, of the body, of immanence.

La musicoterapia rappresenta un approccio terapeutico innovativo che utilizza gli elementi sonoro-musicali per promuovere il benessere psicofisico attraverso meccanismi neurobiologici specifici. La presente tesi analizza l'efficacia della musicoterapia ricettiva (autorecettiva) nella gestione di disturbi neuropsicologici complessi, con particolare riferimento ai disturbi dell'umore, disturbi dello spettro autistico, sindrome di Asperger, balbuzie ed episodi maniacali e ipomaniacali. Attraverso una revisione sistematica della letteratura scientifica, vengono esaminate le basi neurobiologiche dell'intervento musicoterapico, i meccanismi di neuroplasticità coinvolti e le implicazioni cliniche per la pratica terapeutica. I risultati evidenziano come la musicoterapia attivi circuiti neurali specifici, modulando la produzione di neurotrasmettitori chiave e promuovendo processi di riorganizzazione corticale che supportano il recupero funzionale.

In this paper I assess recent literature on topoi in musicological studies outlining questions (particularly the problematic synonymous use of topos and trope), redefining what the topos denotes, expanding on current understandings of topoi and contributing to the recent topic studies debate in musicology. What I call topoi here are abstract nouns such as fate, destiny, love, death, grief, piety and others which dominate libretto texts, first set down by the writer and then represented musically. I broadly define these topoi as affecting and expressive thematic signifiers. I argue that topoi in opera enable the identification of themes or motifs.

Topoi are overarching conceptual provocations that directly engage an audience‘s emotional or intellectual faculties rather than appealing to sensory experience: Operatic topoi operate on a non-figurative level by shaping the narrative, its representation and interpretation by means of ideas, patterns and conceptual elements which stimulate audience’s imaginations, thoughts and impressions. However, in modern literary criticism the term topos (a conventional or recurring theme or expression), is often used in a pejorative sense as a cliché. By resorting to familiar and overused expressions, critics lose the opportunity to explore what is unique and innovative about individual stagings. Rather than offering new or insightful accounts, journalists frequently rely on a bank of clichéd interpretations of topoi, repeating formulas that have been used numerous times to describe the narrative and characters. For my purposes, topoi are conventional (albeit sometimes stereotypical) theatrical, literary or musico-rhetorical devices representing standardised ideas or concepts. My use of the term topos ultimately derives from the persuasive aspect of classical rhetoric but has been adapted for my purpose, which is essentially to deconstruct how cultural practices, texts and ideologies enable audiences to make ‘meaning.’

Most recent writings about the philosophy of music have taken an analytic or linguistic approach, focusing on terms such as meaning, metaphor, emotions and expression, invariably from the perspective of the individual listener or composer. This essay seeks to develop an alternative, phenomenological framework for thinking about music by avoiding these terms, and by extrapolating from the writings of Hegel, Husserl, and Heidegger. On the basis of discussions of musical time, its multiple levels of matter, and its internal dialectics, the essay presents a particular understanding of "style" as the primary basis for mediation between production and reception. It concludes that music is no more or less than itself; and that it comes into presence and resounds within a nonconceptual and collective socio-historical world, thereby dissolving all distinctions between feelings and ideas, and fears and desires.

This paper is another attempt at a Helen Beebee style essay, but this time in social anthropology. It is probably of interest to philosophers as well. It presents experiences of mine of aesthetics as an official course at the University of Manchester, followed by an analysis. I argue that the main lessons I take do not require the rich fieldwork of the social anthropologist. Anthropologists are expecting one question or some questions in the philosophy of music and the big question there is quite different.

This is a study of Christian missionaries, Chinese reformers and the beginnings of Western music in late imperial China (1842China ( -1911)). It focuses on examining how Christian missionaries and Chinese reformers, in the process of advancing their goals, made use of aspects of Western musical culture and how their actions helped facilitate the introduction of Western music to a wider Chinese audience in the late Qing. The purpose of this study is to show that the introduction of Western music in China was essentially a by-product of Christian evangelism and Chinese reformism. The central contention of the thesis is that Western music was introduced to the Chinese not for its aesthetic appeal or artistic superiority but for its utility in China's conversion to God and in its struggle for modernity. This study is constructed upon empirical evidence chiefly from primary sources and from citations in Chinese and Western scholarship. It makes use of written accounts such as diaries, letters, memoirs, newspaper and magazine materials, religious tracts, sermons, and visual representations of musical activity in contemporaneous paintings, photos, drawings and prints. The thesis is divided into two main parts. The first part, comprising Chapters 1 to 4, investigates the uses of music in Christian missions in China and the role of missionaries in the introduction and gradual spread of Western music in China. The second part, consisting of Chapters 5 to 9, deals with the role of Chinese reformers and that of Japan in the wide dissemination of Western music at the turn of the twentieth century. The Conclusion recapitulates some of the findings from the nine chapters and restates the general argument of this thesis. It also offers some reflections on the broad significance of the role of the missionaries and Chinese reformers in the forming of a new musical tradition in China.

Leaders of the Black Studies movement in the 1970s emphasized the lack of Black cultural programming in formal education. This oversight created a significant gap in understanding the complexities of Black life, as aesthetics play a crucial role in (re)producing cultural spheres and shaping subjectivity. This realization prompted a struggle within college settings, leading to the emergence of the jazz studies movement. This article explores jazz musician-educators' social, cultural, and historical context during the inception of jazz programs in the early 1970s. I begin by clarifying the relationship between Black music and higher education, followed by discussing jazz education at the university level. I then present two case studies of key figures in academic jazz studies: Bill Dixon and David Baker. Ultimately, I call for renewed attention to the hidden traditions of Black musical pioneers-those who consistently sought to broaden epistemic horizons within academia. By examining the work of these trailblazing educators, their navigation of complex power dynamics, and their contributions to Black music, we can gain valuable insights into contemporary issues in critical pedagogy and aesthetic education.

Interiority listens to an outside through itself, as itself, revealing a non-contextual, non-dual substrate in which there isn’t a separate self that listens, but only listening.
What does interiority hear when it listens?
As it opens wide the aperture of its attentions it begins to include the entirety of the screen of awareness, upon which the contents of a lifeworld appear to be projected, or illuminated. When held open at its widest, awareness is immediately known as the totality of objective experience, both real and unreal.
As an active rethinking of music-theoretical design space, this essay was written and edited in deep listening, a meditation involving listening to listening, an attunement outside of thought enveloped by an unconditioned cognizance that nevertheless remains synchronous with its displays.

Artykuł przedstawia interdyscyplinarną analizę współczesnej odsłony pitagorejskiej idei muzyki sfer. W pięciu skalach rzeczywistości -mikro (ruch rzęsek, 10-20 Hz), mezo (oscylacje neuronalne móżdżku), makro (pejzaż akustyczny oceanu), mega (chorus waves magnetosfery) oraz subiektywnej (doświadczenie szumów usznych w zakresie zbieżnym z plasmaspheric hiss) -powracają wspólne częstotliwości i oscylacje. Zjawiska te ukazują jedność biologii, planetarnej dynamiki i kosmicznych rezonansów w rytmie, który może być zarówno obiektywnie mierzony, jak i subiektywnie doświadczany przez człowieka. Artykuł proponuje ujęcie tinnitus nie wyłącznie jako objawu patologicznego, lecz także jako możliwego rezonansu somatycznego z naturalnym tłem elektromagnetycznym Ziemi. W ten sposób dawna intuicja Pitagorasa o liczbie i rytmie jako uniwersalnym języku kosmosu zyskuje nowe potwierdzenie we współczesnej nauce i otwiera pole do dalszych badań nad relacją człowieka z kosmiczną harmonią.

This CD marks the first-ever recording of the piano songs by Eduard Hanslick (1825–1904). Best known as the chief critic for the “Presse” and “Neue Freie Presse,” Hanslick was a pivotal figure in nineteenth-century debates about the music of Anton Bruckner, Franz Liszt, Richard Wagner, and the legitimacy of symphonic programme music. While his legacy as the author of the seminal treatise “On the Musically Beautiful” (1854) and as Vienna’s first university professor of musicology—the earliest such position in German-language academia—have been studied before, his music remains largely unknown. This recording offers a fresh perspective on the artistic legacy of one of Europe’s most influential musical figures of the nineteenth century. The accompanying booklet includes the original song texts alongside their English translations, as well as information on the CD series, the research supporting this recording endeavour, and the performers, Barbora de Nunes-Cambraia and Radka Dědičová. A QR code links to an open-access essay in English, authored by Anja Bunzel (Prague), Anthony Pryer (London), and Alexander Wilfing (Vienna). This essay explores Hanslick’s multifaceted significance as a music critic, aesthetic theorist, historian, and composer, offering an in-depth analysis of the musical works featured on this CD. By presenting Hanslick’s compositions in their historical context, we hope to spark greater interest in the creative activity of individuals who are often remembered more for critiquing music than for creating it.

Цель исследования — выяснить, как и почему наследие ан-Наззама, одного из ключевых представителей басрийской школы мутазилизма, было представлено в поздней мутазилитской традиции, а также определить причины его маргинализации в трудах последователей. Методологически статья фундирована сравнительным анализом источников, включая труды ал-Ашʻари, Ибн Хазма и ал-Багдади.
Автор начинает с обзора исторического генезиса мутазилизма; особое внимание уделено басрийской школе, к которой принадлежал ан-Наззам, и ее отличиям от багдадской школы. Отмечается, что ориги-
нальные сочинения ан-Наззама были утрачены: его идеи сохранились лишь во фрагментах доксографической литературы. Основная часть статьи посвящена детальному анализу упоминаний об ан-Наззаме в «Избавляющем». Автор систематизирует эти упоминания по тематическим разделам энциклопедии,
выделяя ключевые аспекты учения басрийского вольнодумца: теологию (справедливость Бога, свобода воли), антропологию (дихотомия «дух — тело»), гносеологию (виды знания) и эсхатологию (телесное воскресение). Рассматривается и критика ан-Наззама со стороны ʻАбд ал-Джаббара, который, несмотря на полемический тон, сохраняет исторический интерес к идеям предшественника. Автор приходит к выводу, что ограниченное цитирование ан-Наззама в «Избавляющем» отражает тенденцию к систематиза-
ции и схоластизации мутазилитской мысли в X–XI вв., когда ранние, менее структурированные работы уступили место более строгим теологическим «суммам». Это привело к маргинализации идей ан-Наззама, которые воспринимались как устаревшие или противоречащие позднейшим доктринам бахшамитов (последователей ʼАбу Хашима ал-Джуббаʼи). Тем не менее ʻАбд ал-Джаббар включает их в свой труд, демонстрируя преемственность традиции и необходимость критического осмысления ранних этапов развития школы.

This dissertation explores the contrasting visions of the ideal society as articulated by Confucius and Plato-two foundational thinkers from vastly different cultural and historical contexts. While Confucius emphasizes harmony through ritual and relational ethics, Plato advocates for justice through rational order and philosophical governance. By comparing their ethical foundations, political philosophies, and educational ideals, this study reveals how each thinker constructs a blueprint for societal flourishing rooted in virtue. The analysis also considers the contemporary relevance of their ideas in global political theory and intercultural dialogue.

This article examines the Shahada, the first pillar of Islam, from the perspective of Hegelian dialectics, arguing that Islamic faith is not a dogmatically accepted premise, but rather a logical synthesis of a rigorous epistemological process. By analyzing the Shahada as the culmination of a thesis (initial belief), an antithesis (empirical testing), and a synthesis (ontological conclusion), this study shows that Islamic faith has a methodological foundation aligned with the spirit of scientific inquiry. The Shahada (asyhadu), meaning "I bear witness," is understood not as an empty declaration, but as a statement of a thesis that has been personally verified and tested, distinguishing the ontology of Islamic faith from other Abrahamic traditions.

STAI is a musical composition by Emanuel Dimas de Melo Pimenta created in 2025 especially for the exhibition The Idea of Sculpture, featuring works by American sculptor Helena Bacardí, curated by Roberta Semeraro with Giovanna Cicutto, at the Palazzo Bollani in Venice, in September and October, concluding in November 2025.
The composition is a reflection on the logical structure of stone, as well as on the material and immaterial, space and time, natural and artificial.

O texto apresenta uma tradução da introdução Prelude: music and musicking do livro Musicking: the meanings of performing and listening, do compositor e etnomusicólogo neozelandês Christopher Small, onde o conceito de “musicar” é apresentado. Small propõe pensar a música como ação, fl uida e relativa ao seu contexto de performance. Desse modo, se distancia das abordagens tradicionais que a tratam como objeto fi xado no papel. Para tal, a discussão é conduzida através de diversos contextos. No da tradição moderna ocidental, onde a partitura é altamente valorizada, Small nos convida a analisar o espaço da sala de concerto e suas relações propondo uma teoria do musicar que permita incluir performers (intérpretes) e demais atores da atividade musical (audiência, equipe de produção, etc.) como agentes ativos do ato de musicar.

Oggi, forse più di qualche anno addietro, si capiscono meglio e si apprezzano figure, come quella di Paccagnini (Castano Primo 1930-1999), che hanno fatto della loro vita, ancor prima che della loro arte, un cammino fra esodo e avvento, per riprendere alcune suggestioni religiose care al Maestro. Un esodo dai meccanismi della società mercantile per avviarsi verso l'attesa dell'avvento di un mondo migliore: utopia che percorre come un fremito o come nostalgia tutta la vita di Paccagnini. Utopia è un posto che non c'è, ma che potrebbe esistere nel regno del possibile. E' anche l'Utopia delle grandi filosofie sociali, da quella di Platone a quella di Marx, alle quali Paccagnini è stato molto attento e sensibile. "al di là di manifesti ideologici, cari a molti compositori della fine degli anni Sessanta e dell'inizio dei Settanta, la ricerca di Paccagnini, oltre a essere una ricerca musicale rigorosa e tecnicamente efficace, è una ricerca sull'impossibilità della comunicazione tout-court e sulla possibilità di comunicare, l'ultima possibilità, che ha il nostro corpo, e con esso la nostra voce, tramite i segni di insofferenza verso il mondo contemporaneo che esso esprime" (1). Abbiamo davvero necessità di una nuova e laica spiritualità. La tematica della falsa comunicazione e del bisogno di un rinnovato rapporto fra gli uomini è tema centrale nella produzione di Paccagnini. I personaggi protagonisti dell'opera Le sue ragioni (1959, composizione dal valore storico notevolissimo, essendo il primo lavoro teatrale in ambito post-weberniano) sono delle maschere, "manichini sperduti davanti al baratro dell'incomprensione reciproca" (2). La musica di Paccagnini sembra fatta di continui naufragi nel mare del molteplice (o della multimedialità), sempre perdendosi e sempre ritrovandosi. È memoria da naufrago. Paccagnini sembra proprio aspirare, da sopravvissuto alla catastrofe della guerra, all'Utopia di una nuova condizione umana, di una rappacificata coscienza sociale. È musica utopica la sua, con quella forza che Bloch aveva già individuato nella vera Utopia. L'arte stessa è utopia , si situa ciò in un luogo che non fa parte del pensiero e del fare quotidiano, ma abita altrove, su una soglia enigmatica dove si decide del sì e del no, al confine fra senso comune e gesto straordinario che, proprio per questa sua eccezionalità, fa eccezione rispetto alle altre discipline e non si lascia facilmente imbrigliare dalle maglie del politicamente corretto. Questo confine fra il senso comune (della storia) e l'essere vocato alla forza utopica dell'arte è la stretta striscia (al confine con le terre fertili) che Paccagnini percorre. Il gesto, così importante in Paccagnini, che costruisce non rimanda solo alla techne ma anche all'episteme, indica qualcosa di ben più ampio e profondo del fare, perché di-svela la struttura, la sostanzia con l'esperire e la apre all'ascolto. In Paccagnini non c'è solo la negazione del perbenismo artistico e del politicamente corretto, nelle sue scelte c'è pure la positività della proposta di una nuova verginità del pensiero, di una purezza del fare, per approdare a un'opera innocente. Un'opera che non fugge dal Mondo, ma lo interroga e interagisce con sana ironia, una lontananza che non significa disimpegno, al contrario, rappresenta la consapevolezza dell'esserci in modo critico. La coscienza critica di Paccagnini nessuno vorrà mettere in dubbio, lui che fu essere umano molto attento al suo prossimo e agli avvenimenti sociali e storici del suo tempo.

La pienezza di vita si caratterizza nel riportare l'estetica speculativa al suo significato originario di sentire e percepire, mettendo al centro l'ascolto, ma ascolto non significa pubblico, intanto perché bisogna mettere in gioco una serie di funzioni e poi non si può costruire un'opera secondo un formulario buono per tutte le occasioni, per i prodotti di mercato, per le platee più tradizionali, bisogna che l'opera abbia una sua vita interna e agisca al di qua di ogni omologazione. Oggi ci si accontenta troppo spesso della bella confezione e di una efficace pubblicità, però un'ottima capacità di comunicare da parte di un mediocre compositore non innalza il valore della musica, ma la lascia nella sua mediocrità, del resto una pessima comunicazione, come nel caso di molta musica sperimentale, può rendere vana l'intera produzione di un ottimo musicista. La comunicazione deve basarsi sulla qualità di ciò che viene espresso e viceversa. Ma sul concetto di qualità occorre soffermarsi, esso si relaziona ai vari contesti e alle diversificate funzioni. Il concetto di qualità è molto difficile da spiegare e da praticare, lo si definisce abbastanza bene solo in un'epoca dove i canoni estetici sono già delineati e vengono rispettati. Come i concetti di bellezza e di gusto, anche quello di qualità muta a seconda delle epoche storiche, delle prospettive sociali, delle funzioni, dei punti di vista individuali. È relativamente facile indicare un requisito tecnico o anche formale, proprio perché si fa riferimento a procedimenti stabiliti da secoli di tradizione tecnico-musicale occidentale. Di frequente si parla di 'musica di qualità' dando per scontato che la qualità sia universale, condivisa e certa e non dipenda dalle funzioni e dai punti di vista. Vi possono essere, come in effetti ci sono, 'qualità' diverse ossia musiche che da una determinata prospettiva, per esempio popular, sono considerate di valore mentre le stesse identiche musiche, da un'altra prospettiva, per esempio accademica, vengono giudicate insignificanti. La critica del giudizio, se proprio la vogliamo praticare nell'epoca della post-verità, non può che riferirsi a processi plurali di interpretazioni. Post Truth1 è stata la parola dell'anno 2016, secondo le autorevoli opinioni dei dizionari Oxford. La verità è un gioco di specchi, rimandi, rinvii e richiami, interminabile; come la tela di Penelope si arriva a un punto importante, ma mai decisivo dato che si aprono sempre nuove relazioni che ci obbligano a porre nuovi interrogativi. Il musicista, l'artista, l'uomo deve essere disponibile ad accogliere riferimenti nuovi, collegamenti inaspettati, vincoli mentali e culturali che si spezzano e sconosciuti legami, anzi, il frammento di riflessione che balena improvviso, vergine e fiammante è una grazia.

C'è musica e musica, pubblico e pubblico Cos'è il pubblico oggi? Esso viene spesso a identificarsi con il concetto di folla ossia con una moltitudine eterogenea e anonima, come nel caso del popolo dei mass media che, secondo il sociologo Denis McQuail, è inconoscibile e facilmente manipolabile. Oggi tutti sono in internet, alcuni in maniera ossessiva. Se è pur vero che i consumatori di internet, branco o gregge che siano, come spesso vengono definiti, sono controllati e condizionabili è altrettanto vero che all'interno di questa marea vi sono individui che creano rapporti collettivi e interpersonali, seppur virtuali. Si realizzano convergenze o contrasti, corrispondenze di amorosi sensi oppure risentimenti, vicinanza di idee od ostilità, insomma, vi è una comunità passionale e interessata a molti aspetti della vita politica, sociale, economica, culturale, artistica. Il pubblico, quale concetto generico, sembra racchiudere un'omogeneità che non c'è mai stata, anche in epoche passate al suo interno vi erano diversità anche forti e di sostanza. In ambito museale e accademico, la questione del pubblico non ha grande rilevanza perché viene dato per scontato che ci si riferisce al tradizionale gruppo di persone che per abitudine seguono lo svolgersi delle iniziative di un cartellone di eventi, di anno in anno sempre simile a sé stesso. Questo pubblico non solo è abitudinario e tradizionalista, ma perfino oscurantista nel suo rifiuto preconcetto alla novità. Ovviamente dei giovani nemmeno l'ombra. Non è che i giovani, per il solo fatto di esserlo, siano innovatori, ma con loro si passa dalla questione del pubblico al pubblico messo in questione. All'inizio degli anni Novanta c'è stata una vera e propria mutazione antropologica, con la diffusione del personal computer, con l'utilizzazione del satellite per le comunicazioni e quindi internet, cellulari, GPS etc., una rivoluzione nei modi di comunicare fra le persone, che oltre a parlare e scrivere fra loro, si connettono! I giovani hanno meno sovrastrutture mentali e non sentono il peso della storia, si avvicinano alla musica con leggerezza, con più spontaneità e velocità, rispetto ai musicisti delle generazioni precedenti. E poco importa se quell'immediatezza a volte confina con la superficialità, si farà poi una cernita. Dalla generazione nata fra gli anni Quaranta e Cinquanta a quella successiva e alla successiva ancora è cambiato l'universo, del resto mezzo secolo è sempre stato un periodo lungo e, nell'ultima parte del Novecento, a causa della velocità dei mutamenti, è diventato lunghissimo. E la celerità dei cambiamenti è ancor più aumentata negli ultimi anni, divenendo folle, tutto viene vissuto in real time, attimo dopo attimo, soffocando ragioni e sentimenti sotto una montagna di notizie, spesso spazzatura. Si tratta di abitare la creatività.
