Online Self Disclosure

This study employs Communication Privacy Management (CPM) Theory to investigate how users manage privacy in artificial intelligence-powered mental health applications. A qualitative analysis of over 500 reviews on the Google Play Store reveals widespread concerns about data security, unauthorized disclosure, and lack of transparency. Findings show that users manage their self-disclosure and trust based on application privacy policies. Regulatory and cultural contexts also shape user expectations, with more stringent demands arising from jurisdictions where data protection law is more robust. The study demands ethical AI design and user-driven privacy policies to reduce boundary turbulence and promote mental health app trust.

The study aims to systematically collect and review literature that investigates the impact of privacy on self-disclosure using Facebook. Another purpose of the review is to identify the theories/ models applied/tested, the software used for data analysis in the reviewed research, the quality of the reviewed studies, and the country's leading in publishing on the topic. The research also intends to show privacy-related aspects of the published studies. Four databases, i.e., Scopus, WoS, LISTA, and Google Scholar, were used for the purpose of data collection and review the literature. The review was conducted using PRISMA guidelines. The findings confirm that most reviewed studies found a negative impact of various privacy aspects on self-disclosure on social media sites. The review identified that Privacy Calculus Theory was the most frequently tested in the reviewed studies. The majority of the reviewed literature quality scores ranged between 12 to 13. It was also found that Privacy Concerns were the most discussed in the research reviewed in the study. It was found that most of the literature was produced in the years 2023 and 2018 and that more than 85% of the published studies were collaborative work that have been published by two or more authors. This is the first systematic review that identified the most used theories on the topic in the reviewed research. This is a unique study that identified the privacy aspect frequently discussed in the literature in the area.

Adolescences' excessive online self-disclosure is now a social phenomenon arising in social media use. The adolescences also tend to share their privacy. This study aims to determine whether extraversion personality, perceived privacy risks, the convenience of maintaining relationships, and online self-presentation influence self-disclosure in adolescents. This study involved 619 adolescents (185 male and 434 female) aged 13-22 years (M = 19.39, SD = 1.83). The participants are active social media users collected from several areas in Indonesia. Multiple regression analysis is used to test the hypothesis. The results show that several variables simultaneously affect online self-disclosure in adolescents (R2 = .422; F (4, 614) = 111.944, p < .01). Online health communication has been recognized as an increasingly important strategy used by individuals to seek and share support from others who understand their condition. The current study used qualitative content analysis to explore how individuals with body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) provide support to their peers online. The study examined 911 messages posted by 225 participants on a support forum for individuals with BDD. The study found that the five most frequent posters to the forum (one male and four females) were the primary sources of social support for other members. The most frequent posters were responsible for one-third of all the messages coded for the study. They provided informational, emotional, and social network support to other members. As a result of the study findings, health communication scholars will have an increased understanding about how individuals provide social support to their peers in online support forums for mental health disorders.

Increasing numbers of people fall victim to blackmail on social media. Yet, there has been little attempt to synthesise research on this topic. This study seeks to address this gap by investigating what is currently known about blackmail and the disclosure of sensitive information on social media. Two rapid reviews were conducted and based on their findings those who disclose more information, are younger, female and willing to use social media to create and distribute images are more likely to fall victim to blackmail on social media. However, worry about privacy and the possibility of becoming a victim of blackmail did not necessarily prevent the disclosure of sensitive information on social media. The implications of these findings for interventions and future research are discussed.

This study investigates college student perceptions of instructor credibility based on the content of an instructor's Twitterfeed and student beliefs about Twitter as a communication tool. Quantitative and qualitative methods were utilized to explore the effects of three manipulated Twitter feeds (e.g., tweeting social topics, professional topics, or a blend) on student perceptions of instructor credibility and examine how students perceive Twitter as a teaching tool. Quantitative results suggest that the profile with professional content was most credible. Credibility ratings were also associated with other twitter use variables, including positive student attitudes about instructors who use Twitter and tweet frequency. Coded qualitative responses indicated that Twitter may be both an asset and an obstacle for instructors.

It can be a source of significant psychological distress. Women who miscarry frequently report inadequate support from family and health professionals, turning to online support groups to meet their needs. However, there is limited knowledge about the categories of support that women who experience miscarriage seek and receive online. Given technological advances, consumers' sensitivity around personal information is shifting, whereby information once considered innocuous, is now considered more sensitive and warrants more protection. This research examines the self-concept and exchange context as a new lens to understand consumer sensitivity to anonymous and personal identifying information exchange. Two studies examine the role of the public and private self in predicting attitudes toward sharing PII and non-PII items, and across different information exchange contexts. Implications for business and policy makers are provided.

Background: Obtaining adequate social support presents a challenge for many in addiction recovery. Increasingly, individuals in recovery use online forums to exchange support with peers, yet it is unclear which help-seeking strategies most effectively recruit peer support, and which forms of support are most valued by recipients. Methods: This study applied quantitative content analysis to examine social support solicitation and delivery in an online forum for alcohol use disorder (AUD). We compared the frequency with which peers provided informational, emotional, and companionship support after solicitations that: (1) were direct or indirect, (2) disclosed positive or negative emotions, and (3) mentioned or did not mention recovery problems. We assessed likelihood that recipients would express gratitude after receiving each type of support, and assessed whether the ''match'' between solicitation and disclosure styles influenced rates of gratitude expression. Results: Emotional disclosures, whether positive or negative, received the highest volume of supportive replies. Emotional support was the most common response to solicitations overall, and was disproportionately offered after recipients disclosed positive emotions. Informational support was disproportionately offered after recipients disclosed negative emotions or recovery problems, or explicitly requested help. Regardless of their solicitation style, recipients expressed more gratitude after receiving emotional support than other support types.

Social media have become prominent part of life for many young people today. Social networking sites provide a platform for discussion on hot issues that have been overlooked in a day to day basis. The use of information technology in social media has increased its popularity among the youth, especially among the students of universities. Most people engage with social media without stopping to think what the effects are on our lives, whether positive or negative. The current study is conducted to monitor the impact of social media on youth. It is survey-type research where for analyzing the effect of social media on youth the questionnaire study is designed and by using simple random sampling 375 students are selected from GC Women University Sialkot. In this study, it is observed that 59% of respondents strongly agree that social media is helpful to create awareness among youth whereas 89% respondents agree that it helps to search jobs for youth. Whereas, 96% respondents agree that social media is helpful to get knowledge about current affairs of country. On the other hand, considering disadvantages of media, 93% of respondents agree that too much use of social media causes health problem and 94% respondents agree that unwanted information creates confusion in the minds of youth, 91% respondents agree that irrelevant and anti-religious posts and links create hate among people of different communities. The results revealed that social networking sites have the positive as well as negative impact on youth and it is suggested that government and private institutions both should have to work to promote social media's positive activities among youth.

Analisis data dilakukan dengan analisis korelasi product moment. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan adanya korelasi positif yang signifikan antara beberapa dimensi big five personality, yaitu dimensi exstraversion, conscientiousness, agreeableness dan openness dengan intensi berbagi informasi di media sosial. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui adanya perbedaan keterbukaan diri remaja yang pernah menggunakan narkoba ditinjau dari tipe kepribadian. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif non eksperimen. Subjek sebanyak 90 remaja dengan usia 17-21 tahun, yang pernah menggunakan narkoba yang positif tes urine oleh BNNK Batu. People with extraverted and introverted personality type use social media in different ways for different reasons. In order to understand people’s personality, their social media profiles can be used as a source of information. In this research, Support Vector Machine method is used to classify Twitter user’s personality as an extrovert or introvert. Twitter user’s profile of 46 accounts are downloaded through the Twitter API. Labeling of personality types is based on the results of personality questionnaires. Number of features used is 17 features. RBF kernel is used as kernel function. After performing feature selection and parameter selection, we train the training dataset to get the best model. The model is used to predict the test data. From the test results, SVM method can be used to classify Twitter user’s personality with 88,89% accuracy.

However, there is a connection between social media use and psychological well-being, which has been shown to increase loneliness and low self-esteem in people. This study employed a quantitative descriptive methodology to obtain thorough information on the differences in loneliness and self-esteem between young adult men and women who use social media. The research sample was selected through purposive sampling. 100 men and 100 women between the ages of 18 and 29 made up the 200 subjects in this study. The degree of difference between loneliness and self-esteem was assessed using t-test. The findings indicated that young adult men and women who used social media experienced different levels of loneliness and selfesteem. Men had higher levels of loneliness and lower levels of self-esteem than women, as shown by the value of p = 0.000 (p < 0.01), which shows that there is a very significant difference between the two.

This study examined an aspect of Facebook disclosure that has as yet gone unexplored: whether a user prefers to share information directly, for example, through status updates, or indirectly, via photos with no caption or relationship status changes without context or explanation. The focus was on the sharing of important positive and negative life events related to romantic relationships, health, and work/school in relation to likelihood of sharing this type of information on Facebook and general attitudes toward privacy. An online survey of 599 adult Facebook users found that when positive life events were shared, users preferred to do so indirectly, whereas negative life events were more likely to be disclosed directly. Privacy shared little association with how information was shared. Implications for understanding the finer nuances of how news is shared on Facebook are discussed.

Students can not be separated from various task demands, both academic and non academic. With these demands, psychological well-being is needed within the Collage student so that they can afford it One of the factors that can affect it is the type of personality. Personality type can determine a person in performing their daily activities. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of personality type on psychological well-being. This is non-experimental quantitative research with simple random sampling technique. The number of samples in this research is 265 collage students. The scale of psychological well-being is based on Ryff's theory of 13 valid items with reliability coefficient (α)0.827. As for the scale of personality type which refers to the theory of Eysenck amounted to 34 valid items with reliability coefficient (α) 0.928. Differences test results obtained sig (p) 0.614> 0.05 which means that there is no significant effect of personality type on regular collage student's class of 2014 psychological well-being in Universitas Esa Unggul. The result of personality type categorization shows that 54.3% of students tend to have extrovert personality type, and the result of students' psychological wellbeing categorization tends to be low that is 53.8%. The results of crosstab showed that there is no difference between sex and age on psychological well-being.

A paper survey of 489 Chinese college students was conducted in spring, 2012 to test a conceptual model of online information disclosure in social media. It shows that young Chinese SNS users&#39; prior negative experience of online disclosure significantly increased their online privacy concerns and their perceived risk. Their online privacy concerns undermined their trust of online companies, marketers and laws to protect privacy and elevated their perceived risk. Their trust strongly predicted their intent to disclose the lifestyle and sensitive information. Their online privacy concerns only inhibited them from disclosing sensitive information in social media. However, their prior negative experience did not directly predict their intent of self-disclosure on SNS. Implications for academia and industry are discussed.

Given technological advances, consumers' sensitivity around personal information is shifting, whereby information once considered innocuous, is now considered more sensitive and warrants more protection. This research examines the self-concept and exchange context as a new lens to understand consumer sensitivity to anonymous and personal identifying information exchange. Two studies examine the role of the public and private self in predicting attitudes toward sharing PII and non-PII items, and across different information exchange contexts. Implications for business and policy makers are provided.

Increasing numbers of people fall victim to blackmail on social media. Yet, there has been little attempt to synthesise research on this topic. This study seeks to address this gap by investigating what is currently known about blackmail and the disclosure of sensitive information on social media. Two rapid reviews were conducted and based on their findings those who disclose more information, are younger, female and willing to use social media to create and distribute images are more likely to fall victim to blackmail on social media. However, worry about privacy and the possibility of becoming a victim of blackmail did not necessarily prevent the disclosure of sensitive information on social media. The implications of these findings for interventions and future research are discussed.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan konsep diri, kepercayaan diri, dan interaksi sosial mahasiswa Prodi BKI FITK UIN Sumatera Utara Medan. Juga untuk melihat kontribusi konsep diri dan kepercayaan diri terhadap interaksi sosial mahasiswa Prodi BKI FITK UIN Sumatera Utara Medan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan korelasional yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui seberapa besar kontribusi antara variabel penelitian. Populasi penelitian ini berjumlah 517 mahasiswa. Sampel penelitian ini berjumlah 226 mahasiswa, diambil dengan menggunakan teknik simple random sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah angket. Data dianalisis dengan mengguakan teknik deskriptif, dan pengujian hipotesis dilakukan dengan teknik analisis jalur. This research based on phenomena of students council in which teamwork is really needed to get the organization goal. Before having teamwork, individu must have commitment to organization and level of commitment is assumed correlated with personality types. Eysenck (1974) defined personality as a result of interaction between inherited factors and surrounding. According to Porter (Schultz, 1982: 4), commitment on organization is individual attitude having trust and acceptance to the goal and values of organization. This research used correlational methodology. Result found  χ2hitung is 5.013 which is compared to χ2tabel 3.84 (Siegel, 1997: 301). Since χ2hitung = 5.013 is  more than χ2tabel 3.84 on significant level 0,05, then Ho is not accepted. Therefore, it is concluded that there is correlation between personality type and organizational commitment.

This study aims to obtain an overview of the behavior of the internet and social media users in learning. The research was conducted by surveying 99 students, students, and teachers in Muhammadiyah schools in East Jakarta. The survey results show that most respondents use it for pleasure-seeking activities, and the second is learning. Internet security and skills are generally well mastered. Therefore, the behavior in learning using social media and the internet is quite positive in the younger generation's perceptions. Social media and the internet can be a means of learning, sharing, and are not believed to hurt their learning.

Privacy concerns are one of the most important issues in today's technology-based setting. Previous studies show that privacy concerns negatively influenced the individual's behavioral intention toward a particular Web-based service or technology. However, researchers have not explored the role of privacy concerns in identity management systems (IdMS) adoption. Previous identity management studies addressed privacy issues from the technical perspective but theoretical, social and regulatory dimensions have not been well addressed in the literature. This study identifies multi-dimensional privacy concerns of the IdMS and aims to understand and examine their effect toward users behavioral intentions to adopt IdMS. The conclusion of this paper outlines the implications and further directions for this study.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara self-concept dan toxic disinhibition online effect pada mahasiswa yang menggunakan media sosial Instagram. Alat ukur yang digunakan yaitu skala Toxic Disinhibition Online Effect dan Skala Self Concept. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa pengguna sosial media instagram. Metode penelitian adalah metode kuantitatif. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan selama dua belas bulan, dimana diperoleh hasil bahwa dari 170 mahasiswa, lebih dari separuh (51.23%) memiliki self concept yang positif. Berdasarkan hasil uji statistik nilai signifikansi adalah 0,2000. Nilai signifikansi pada penelitian ini lebih besar dari pada 0,05 dengan nilai korelasi -0,065. Berdasarkan hal tersebut dapat disimpulkan bahwa tidak terdapat hubungan antara self concept dan toxic disinhibition online effect.

Self-disclosure may happen greatly in social media because nonverbal cues were reduced and their anonymity feature, while they also control their content distribution to certain boundaries based on their own privacy management. The purposes of this research are to know motivation of ASKfm users to disclose their personal information to anonymous questions and how privacy rule criteria such as gender, culture, and context make them want to disclose their personal information to anonymous questions. By using in-depth interview, data were collected from three males and three females aged 18 to 24 years old. They had ASKfm accounts, had answered anonymous questions at least five times, had minimum 100 likes in total, and had revealed personal information to the anonymous questions. ASKfm involved personal evaluation towards rewards and costs received by the users. Participants were motivated to disclose their personal information to anonymous questions to get enjoyment by receiving and answering many anonymous questions as well as relationship building. The motivations indirectly caused self-presentation in which some participants promoted their ASKfm accounts in other social media to get more questions. Collectivistic participants received benefit on enjoyment, while individualistic participants who received benefit on relationship building and maintenance. Participants were more careful in managing disclosures because they were aware of possible risks and possibility of widely personal information distribution to unknown publics by filtering the questions rather than changing the Privacy Settings.

Uji korelasi menggunakan Product Moment Pearson dengan koefisien korelasi 0.759 dan signifikansi =0.000 (p &lt; 0.05). Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah terdapat hubungan yang signifikan dengan korelasi positif antara kepribadian ekstrovert dengan perilaku merokok pada mahasiswi, yang berarti bahwa jika kepribadian ekstrovert mahasiswi perokok tinggi maka perilaku merokoknya juga tinggi dan sebaliknya

Adolescences&#39; excessive online self-disclosure is now a social phenomenon arising in social media use. The adolescences also tend to share their privacy. This study aims to determine whether extraversion personality, perceived privacy risks, the convenience of maintaining relationships, and online self-presentation influence self-disclosure in adolescents. This study involved 619 adolescents (185 male and 434 female) aged 13-22 years (M = 19.39, SD = 1.83). The participants are active social media users collected from several areas in Indonesia. Multiple regression analysis is used to test the hypothesis. The results show that several variables simultaneously affect online self-disclosure in adolescents (R2 = .422; F (4, 614) = 111.944, p &lt; .01). This study aims to determine the relationship between personality types with the intention of sharing information on social media. The respondents of this study were 541 students (Male:190; Female:351). Data was collected using the Information Sharing Intention Scale on Social Media and the Big Five Inventory (BFI) scale. Data analysis was carried out by product moment correlation analysis. The results of this study indicate a significant positive correlation between several big five personality dimensions, namely dimensions of exertion, conscientiousness, agreeableness and openness with the intention of sharing information on social media. Whereas the neuroticsm dimension has a significantly negative correlation. These results reinforce the results of previous studies that personality is one of the important factors that influence individual behavior on the internet.
