Quantitative study methods to use for analysis. The study population includes all students and faculty members of the Liaquat University Hospital, and the simple random sampling technique was used. Primary data collected through an adapted questionnaire. SPSS 20 software were used to analyze the tests like; validity and reliability, Cronbach's alpha, descriptive and inferential statistics paired t-test and test. Result of validity and reliability was 0.82 and 0.92. Social marketing intervention has significantly increased on the average knowledge and attitude of the target population. The change of awareness in the dimension of accessibility (3.3), cost of participation, and communication also increased significantly. The lack of awareness about the role of medical library services leads to reduced. Social marketing is an appropriate way of information to users regarding services and resources creates a positive attitude among the health communities. According to the libraries' social role, social marketing is an appropriate way to inform library users and helps to create a positive attitude among the country's health community.

The research examined the use of Information Retrieval Tools (IRTs) by the post graduate students of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology. The research used descriptive survey and was carried out over a period of six months between August 2016 and January, 2017. The sample size comprise of 2,000 postgraduate students which were randomly selected from different faculties/institutes and were served with copies of the questionnaire. A total of 1,970 copies of useable questionnaire were retrieved which represent 98.5% response rate. The responses were collated and analyzed using frequency counts and percentages. The outcome shows that respondents make use of IRTs for a variety of purposes and that university library's user education and information literacy program forms the key source of their knowledge of IRTs' usage. Through it, it can be safely concluded that the university library plays major role in assisting the students to make use of IRTs. Secondary findings show that the main IRTs made use of by the respondents is the Internet Search Engines. Furthermore findings of the study also revealed that the use of the tools has impacted positively on their social and academic life and has also enhanced their global knowledge of different issues. The major constraint to student's use of the tools is that of Internet fluctuations. The paper concludes with recommendations on the need to give training on the use of IRTs to students. Contribution/ Originality: This study contributes in the library serveries of most useful tool for information management required for post graduate students' needs for information and information management for the research and development in the Sindh Province.

La diffusion de fausses informations (fake news) est un fléau des sociétés modernes en ce sens qu'elle détruit les éléments de base d'une société juste, la vérité. La gravité d'une telle situation ne laisse pas indifférents eu égard aux actions mises en oeuvre pour faire barrage à ce problème dont les plus visibles sont l'investissement dans des dispositifs technologiques. La pluralité des outils et la diversité des approches qui ont servi à leur développement traduisent une quête d'efficacité qui tarde à venir malgré un effort substantiel de recherche notamment en informatique. Alors que depuis plus de cinquante ans les sciences de l'information réfléchissent à des modèles qui cherchent à outiller les citoyens dans leur processus informationnel. L'éducation à l'information (IL) en est l'une des représentations les plus emblématiques. Et à l'opposé des modèles technologiques, elle permet une réflexion sur une approche centrée sur l'homme. Cet article proposer ainsi un modèle humain de détection des fake news inspiré de l'IL et bâti autour de l'acquisition de compétences informationnelles et le recours à un esprit critique. ABSTRACT. The dissemination of false information (fake news) is a scourge of modern societies in that it destroys the basic elements of a just society, the truth. The seriousness of such a situation does not leave one indifferent in view of the actions implemented to block this problem, the most visible of which are the investments in technological devices. The plurality of tools and the diversity of approaches that have been used to develop them reflect a quest for efficiency that is slow in coming despite a substantial research effort, particularly in computer science. For more than fifty years, the information sciences have been thinking about models that seek to equip citizens in their information process. Information literacy (IL) is one of the most emblematic representations of this. And in contrast to technological models, it allows for reflection on a human-centred approach. This article proposes a human model of fake news detection inspired by IL and built around the acquisition of informational skills and the use of a critical mind.

This article addresses the relationship between artificial intelligence (AI) and ethics in education, highlighting the need for responsible and inclusive use of this technology. It analyzes how AI, following the emergence of tools such as ChatGPT , is transforming educational processes, from personalized learning to the automation of teaching tasks. However, this technological advancement also entails significant ethical challenges, such as data privacy, equity of access, algorithmic bias, and environmental impact. The article emphasizes the importance of training both students and teachers not only in the technical use of AI, but also in its critical understanding and the adoption of ethical principles that guide its use. To this end, it calls for the establishment of international regulations that regulate this technology, protect human rights, and promote a fair distribution of its benefits. The article emphasizes that the real challenge lies in integrating AI into education in a way that fosters critical thinking, promotes equity, and responds to current and future social needs.

Esta tesis doctoral estudia la construcción de la identidad de jóvenes y adultos como aprendices de inglés. Desde un enfoque socioantropológico de corte etnográfico, explora las manifestaciones de identidad en la escritura de un grupo de mujeres que estudian en los Centros de Tutorías, en la ciudad de Villa María (Córdoba, Argentina) para finalizar sus estudios secundarios. Se analiza el trabajo de campo en relación con la intersección de distintos constructos teóricos: identidad en una lengua extranjera, identidades imaginadas, inversión e identidad letrada. Se identifican líneas analíticas que permiten argumentar que las prácticas de escritura constituyen un espacio social en el que se negocia y construye la identidad de los estudiantes de inglés a partir de su participación en actividades junto con otros actores, lo cual le imprime a la identidad su carácter social e individual.

El presente capítulo examina primero lo que significa hoy en día ‘la identidad’ para los investigadores en ciencias sociales y humanidades, y para los que trabajan en lingüística aplicada. Se basa en el reciente libro Innovations and challenges in identity research (Block, 2022) y será necesariamente breve, haciendo hincapié en características claves del fenómeno y sus dimensiones comunes. Lo anterior servirá como marco teórico para la siguiente sección en la cual se presentarán dos casos vividos por el autor: uno sobre el aprendizaje del español y otro relacionado con la formación de profesores de español como lengua extranjera (ELE). El primero es una reflexión autobiográfica sobre cómo una serie de factores se unen de tal manera que hace que un anglohablante se convierta en hispanohablante. This study aims to find out more about the efforts to improve students' information literacy in online learning of the covid-19 effect of biology. The type of research used in this paper is a literature review study. This research was carried out by analyzing research related to how to increase information literacy in online learning the effects of Covid-19 describing, evaluating and clarifying the research and then drawing conclusions. The result of this research is that information literacy is a very important skill for students. The conclusion in this study, based on the results of the author's analysis, there are three ways to improve students' information literacy, the methods are 1) doing biology online learning effectively to increase student interest in learning and foster student curiosity, 2) the teacher provides many learning resources. as reading material in learning and increasing student insight, and 3) parents and teachers must work together in monitoring, facilitating, and motivating students to develop their learning patterns, so that learning takes place effectively and can improve student's information literacy.

Background: Medical curricula are increasingly using small group learning and less didactic lecture-based teaching. This creates new challenges and opportunities in how students are best supported with information technology. We explored how university-supported and external social media could support collaborative small group working on our new undergraduate medical curriculum. Methods: We made available a curation platform (Scoop.it) and a wiki within our virtual learning environment as part of year 1 Case-Based Learning, and did not discourage the use of other tools such as Facebook. We undertook student surveys to capture perceptions of the tools and information on how they were used, and employed software user metrics to explore the extent to which they were used during the year. Results: Student groups developed a preferred way of working early in the course. Most groups used Facebook to facilitate communication within the group, and to host documents and notes. There were more barriers to using the wiki and curation platform, although some groups did make extensive use of them. Staff engagement was variable, with some tutors reviewing the content posted on the wiki and curation platform in face-to-face sessions, but not outside these times. A small number of staff posted resources and reviewed student posts on the curation platform. Conclusions: Optimum use of these tools depends on sufficient training of both staff and students, and an opportunity to practice using them, with ongoing support. The platforms can all support collaborative learning, and may help develop digital literacy, critical appraisal skills, and awareness of wider health issues in society.

This paper describes the challenges of introducing a digital tool to trainee teachers. A group of nineteen undergraduate students studying primary education and in their third year of a four year course was introduced to PebblePad5. PebblePad is an online tool which is not new in the world of ITE. However, the latest version has more useful features and is less 'clunky' than older versions. The students each had their own private account where eventually they would be expected to store all of their placement files, add multi-modal content and then choose to share some or all of this content publically or by personal invitation via email. One of the benefits for us as an ITE provider is that we can view our students' files electronically and comment on them without necessarily making the one/two hour round trip to the placement school. Although students used some technology, this research shows that students need more training in using technology competently in the workplace setting. Phase One of the project was to encourage the students to write their reflections on placement digitally. It was hoped that the students would be enthusiastic about using PebblePad and I would see an improvement in the levels of engagement with the reflective process and thus, the quality of teaching and learning as a result of this. Data obtained from questionnaires and a focus group indicate that PebblePad was viewed as a useful tool, but training issues and time constraints of the project meant it was not as successful for this cohort as was hoped. This paper discusses the issues that arose and the plan to overcome these barriers in the next phase of the implementation of PebblePad.

Current IPB Center Library search engine has been developed to serve all users, independent of the special needs of any individual user. Personalized search is to carry out retrieval for each user incorporating his/her interest. This research propose a novel technique to learn user profile from user lending history to represent long-term interest and user search history to represent short-term interest. The user profiles are then used to improve retrieval effectiveness in online search. A general profile are learned from a category hierarchy. These two profiles are combined to map a user query into a set of categories which represent the user’s search intention and serve as context to disambiguate the words in the user’s query. The primary objective of this study is to assess the level of understanding of fake news media literacy among university students. Forty-three Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia students enrolled in the New Media Communication program were polled for this research. Our aim in this chapter is to analyze the diverse visual, textual, discursive
and material resources mobilized in citizens’ protests to hold the Nepali government
accountable for addressing the health and safety needs of the people during
the pandemic. As we examine them, we ask: to whom do these communicative
repertoires speak, and to what end? We argue that these resources foster a sense
of collective identity among a very diverse mass of individuals by making the
protest visually salient. The communicative activities the protesters engage in
reconfigure online and physical spaces. Simultaneously, practices transcend traditional
forms of social movement often shaped by the normative ideologies of
politics, ethnicity and gender in the context of Nepal. Protesters projected a positive
self-image by performing their identities as responsible, aware and civilized.
Some of the activities that indexed such identities were that: protesters followed
social distancing rules, they were appropriately masked and they did not incite
any violence. Meanwhile, actors used protests to perform a delegitimation (van
Dijk 1998) function by questioning the competency, authority and morality of the
government in addressing the needs of the country during the pandemic. What is
of particular interest to us as sociolinguists is the rich array of transient visual and
material semiotics that were constructed in diverse spaces as part of the protest
performance.

Many medical schools in low-and middle-income countries (LMICs) have adopted a problem-based learning (PBL) approach. PBL requires medical students to independently access and correctly interpret medical information. There is paucity of information on how students in LMICs retrieve medical information and apply Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) principles. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was carried out among medical students in their clinical years at Moi University School of Medicine (MUSOM), a large medical school in Kenya between August and November 2016. Results: Authors analyzed results of 206 clinical year medical students at MUSOM (response rate of 84%). Standard textbooks (47.8%) and lecture slides (20.9%) were the most preferred sources of general medical information. Medscape®, a free mobile medical information application, was the most utilized drug information source. Sources which directly link to primary biomedical literature such as PUBMED and HINARI were used by 14.1% and 7.8% of students respectively. A quiz testing key clinical epidemiology concepts was also performed with a mean score of 49% (SD, 23.8). There is preference for standard textbooks. Low scores on the clinical epidemiology quiz, coupled with most students endorsing limited understanding of key EBM concepts emphasizes the need for broader EBM training.

The information field continues to evolve rapidly as digital technology changes the very nature of information and how people interact with each other and with information. This article argues that the past 30 years have seen a shift from distinct emphases on information, individual people, and specific technologies to emphases on the interactions among more diverse forms and amounts of information, people, and technologies. Human-information interaction shifts the foci of all aspects of information work; blurs boundaries between information objects, technology, and people; and creates new forms of information. This article discusses changes in each of these components of information and trends and challenges surrounding the study of their interactions are presented.

In our hyper-connected era, individuals are constantly exposed to images and information that shape our digital culture. Possessing the competencies to understand how information is conveyed in our daily lives can therefore empower citizens to recognize its functions and effects on human communication. This chapter looks at the importance of Media & Information Literacy for individuals in the 21st century. It provides a brief history of the concept, as well as a detailed exploration of the competencies that compose it. It also refers to the role that educators play in its instruction and concludes with recommendations for teachers to start embedding MIL principles in their teaching.

Este texto é um relato de uma experiência interdisciplinar e intersetorial vivida por bibliotecários, professores e graduandos envolvidos na construção do letramento informacional, mais especificamente na busca do domínio de capacidades de desvendamento do universo informacional acadêmico. Essa experiência surgiu da percepção de professores da disciplina Metodologia de Pesquisa do curso de Ciências Econômicas sobre a falta de conhecimento dos alunos das funcionalidades das fontes de informação e de suas dificuldades para encontrá-las. Foi proposto aos bibliotecários de referência que auxiliassem os alunos de graduação a construir práticas informacionais letradas no universo acadêmico. Foram oferecidas duas aulas dos bibliotecários para a realização desse trabalho. Após planejamento prévio, ministrou-se a primeira aula sobre busca, uso e seleção de fontes de informação. A segunda abordou a temática da representação do conhecimento e normalização de trabalhos acadêmicos. Este relato focaliza, especialmente, a atividade e o saber-fazer de bibliotecários de referência. Apresenta resultados da experiência desenvolvida, sendo os principais os seguintes: a) os bibliotecários de referência têm sido convocados a uma tarefa nova, o exercício da função de educar; b) eles alcançaram os objetivos na experiência que viveram; c) eles apresentaram diversas fontes de informação e explicaram seus diferentes formatos e funções; d) os alunos utilizaram essas fontes na construção de seus trabalhos de conclusão de curso; e) o conhecimento oferecido auxiliou os estudantes a se tornarem mais independentes em suas buscas, mais críticos na seleção e uso da informação.

The study investigated the Information needs and access of Members of Vigilante in Adamawa state, North-eastern Nigeria, one of the three states bedeviled by the Boko Haram insurgency. Quantitative research methodology and Cross-sectional survey design was applied for the study. The population of the study comprised of One Thousand Four Hundred Members (1400) drawn from Nineteen (19) local governments areas in the state. Krejcie and Morgan Table (1970) was used to draw (302) members as sample of the population, while formula for proportions was used in arriving at a sample for each stratum (i.e. each local government area). In collecting data, a total of Three Hundred and Two (302) copies of questionnaires were administered, and Two Hundred and Forty 240 copies (79.47%) were returned and found useful. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics. The outcome of the study revealed that the information needs of members were daily mainly work related and from informal sources, as there were no public libraries/information centers in 17 local governments' areas of the state. The outcome of the research also revealed barriers to information access to include general lack of formal information infrastructure such as libraries/information centers, poor and unreliable informal information sources, as well as lack of training on information literacy skills for members of Vigilante. It is recommended that there is a need for those involved in vigilante information delivery to continuously examine and identify evolving information needs of members of vigilante in order to meet such needs. Government should resuscitate the dying public libraries in all the local government areas of Adamawa state to provide information services. Libraries should organize training on information literacy and other information use skills for members of vigilante, because if this is done, it will enhance and improve information access across communities in Adamawa state. Finally, information resources be repackaged in order to take care of challenges of proximity to sources of information, language barrier and other challenges faced by members of vigilante.

Nowdays, children prefer to do activities using electronic tools and less often culturally read. The importance of introduction and reading culture applied since early childhood is expected to make children a literate and broad-minded generation. Introduction and reading culture is done by the nearest child (parents and teachers). The purpose of this research is to know the literacy program conducted by Library and Archives Service in realizing the literacy of early childhood, as well as the supporting facilities provided for the implementation of the literacy program. This research was conducted in the Regional Library of Bantul Regency. This study uses a qualitative approach to case studies Forms of literacy programs for early childhood include: 1) Visits to the library and reading books, 2) Screening, 3) Writing workshop. The literacy program focuses on the introduction of pre-school pre-school literacy.

The emergence of new media, devices, narratives, and practices has compelled media literacy scholars and professionals to review their theoretical frameworks and methodological approaches. Based on a new concept—transmedia literacy—that moves from traditional media literacy (teaching critical media skills at school) to informal learning and practices of participatory cultures, the research behind the present paper aims to understand how new generations are doing things with media outside schools and how they learn to do the things they do. After a short description of the objectives and the methodology, the paper focuses on one of the outputs of this international research (2015–2018) that has involved 8 countries: a map of teens’ transmedia skills developed in the context of informal learning environments’ collaborative cultures.

This paper explores how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping curatorial practices. Traditionally, curation has been a human-centered activity grounded in critical authority and cultural mediation (Smith, 2019). Today, AI emerges as an active participant, moving from algorithmic recommendation to generative mediation and now to agentic autonomy-systems able to plan, act, and adapt with memory and self-reflection (Yao et al., 2023; Shinn et al., 2023). We identify three models of curation: assistive, algorithmic, and agentic. While these developments open possibilities for diversity, efficiency, and serendipity, they also raise challenges of bias, opacity, and accountability. Crucially, AI does not only filter or narrate content but increasingly shapes the very conditions under which meaning is produced. As human and algorithmic unconsciouses intertwine, curatorial practice becomes a site of co-fabrication of meaning, where cultural authority and epistemic legitimacy are renegotiated in rapidly mutating socio-technical ecosystems.

PurposeThis study aimed to acquire a comprehensive understanding of the digital literacy skills possessed by first-year students and how they impact students' participation in online classes.Design/methodology/approachThis research was conducted using a quantitative method to investigate first-year students' digital literacy and its effect on their interaction in online learning. Nine hundred and two students from 19 online English writing classes were invited to complete an online survey questionnaire. The sampling approach was conducted by a nonrandom method. The effective management of research data has become a critical aspect of academic research in the digital era. This study investigates the awareness, practices, and challenges associated with Research Data Management (RDM) among faculty members and research scholars at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi. The research focuses on identifying the types of research data generated, formats and mediums used for storage, data sharing practices, the role of libraries, and the level of awareness about existing data repositories and RDM tools. Findings reveal that while most respondents understand the importance of data sharing and open access, only a few know RDM tools, indicating a significant gap in practical knowledge and technical preparedness. Popular storage formats include .docx, .xls, and PDF, while storage media such as portable hard disks and USB drives are widely used. Despite the positive perception towards data sharing, issues related to storage challenges, data ethics, and copyright persist. The study underscores the urgent need for universities to develop comprehensive data management policies, conduct regular training programs, and enhance the role of libraries in supporting research data lifecycle management. Strengthening RDM infrastructure and awareness will significantly benefit researchers and improve research transparency and efficiency.

This study examines the contribution of cataloguing standards to the retrieval of electronic information resources (EIRs) in public university libraries in SouthEast Nigeria. The study was guided by three research questions and two null hypotheses, the study adopted a descriptive survey design. The population of the study consist of 184 professional librarians across public university libraries in the region. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire and an observation checklist, both validated by experts and tested for reliability, yielding a Cronbach's alpha of 0.87. Descriptive statistics and were used for data analysis and t-tests at a 0.05 level of significance was used to test the hypothesis. The findings revealed a wide range of electronic resources available in the libraries such as e-books, e-journals, CD ROM, e-projects etc, a moderate to high level of cataloguing standards application on Punctuation, capitalization, assignment of headings, subject cataloguing amongst others, and a significant contribution in facilitating speed in retrieval, save the time of the user, accuracy in information retrieval etc. The study recommends enhanced librarian training, standardization of cataloguing practices, increased investment in cataloguing technologies, continuous evaluation, and user education to optimize EIR access and retrieval. The research underscores the critical role of cataloguing standards in improving information accessibility and retrieval efficiency in academic libraries.

Background: This paper investigates the role of information literacy skills on use of information resources by medical students in Lagos state. Objectives: Find out the types of information resources available, level of availability and the skills for accessing them, level of information resources used, is there a significant relationship between information literacy skills and use of information resources. Methods: The study adopted a survey research design. Total enumeration sampling technique was employed. Self-structured questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. It is an attempt to measure how much, where, when and how informal learning takes place in our daily lives. In this report, you will find a new methodology compared with previous research, as well as a lot of interesting results regarding the incidence of informal learning not previously revealed, plus policy implications for lifelong and adult learning in the concluding section.

En la última década han surgido, a partir de la preocupación por el combate de las noticias falsas y los procesos de desinformación, diversas recomendaciones a nivel internacional que buscan alertar a la población y brindar recomendaciones para hacer frente a dicho fenómeno. Tomando estos adelantos como insumo y a partir de un contexto particular y situado en una perspectiva latinoamericana, se realiza una propuesta de pautas de alfabetización informacional y mediática en contextos de procesos de desinformación. También en este artículo se da cuenta del proceso llevado adelante para el diseño de dicha propuesta, que comprende una serie de trabajo acumulado en el marco del Observatorio de Medios del Uruguay. Las pautas se agrupan en cuatro categorías: competencias en información, competencias mediáticas, competencias interpersonales y competencias para el fortalecimiento y goce de derechos. Estas constituyen una abstracción teórica a los efectos de ordenar la propuesta, pero en varios casos se encuentran conectadas entre sí. A partir de la presentación y difusión de las pautas, se espera contribuir con algunas herramientas para el combate de la desinformación con el objetivo de construir una sociedad más tolerante e informada, en clave de igualdad y del respeto de los derechos humanos. The well-being of individuals and communities depend on accessibility to accurate health information. A recent study shows the many communities in some regions of Nigeria lack accessibility to this information. Building on the success of partnerships between librarians and health care workers in the delivery of health information in other parts of the world, the Nigerian situation could be greatly improved through a number of strategies, as suggested.

Highly qualified and sufficient numbers of human resource are an essential element for public libraries to successfully continue services towards the nation. Therefore, this study examines the demographic profiles, skills and training needs of public library human resources in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka. A survey strategy was adopted using a self-administrated questionnaire distributed among all the staff members of the public libraries in the Eastern Province, Sri Lanka. Descriptive statistics were performed to achieve the objectives. The findings indicated that there were 48 Librarians, 255 Library Assistants and 121 other staff categories working in public libraries in the Eastern Province. It was noted that a substantial percentage of staff members (95.3%) had G.C.E Ordinary and Advanced level qualifications. Around 60.3% of the staff was professionally qualified in Library & Information Sciences. The findings revealed that the employees required to improve skills in information technology (M = 2.41), communication (M = 2.74), and bringing innovations (M = 2.88). Further, the chi-square test confirmed that there was a statistically significant association (p<0.05) between skill level and qualifications. The highest percentage of Librarians preferred to have training on Library Automation. However, the majority of the Library Assistants preferred to have training in basic computer skills. The study recommends that the authorities should take immediate actions to fill the available cadres with qualified persons, develop blended training sessions to facilitate frequent training to develop competencies of the employees.
