Collaborative Design

This paper examines how the material performativity of experimental prototypes can provide us with new insights into what it means to "have a stake" when engaged in co-design. For participants like birds and frail elderly people, a participatory interest cannot necessarily be articulated through language and discourse. Drawing on examples from the recent research project Urban Animals and Us (UA&Us), we suggest that experimental prototypes hold the promise of material enactments of relations that enable a re-articulation of what it means to have a stake in a socio-material event. In the specific context of this project, a stake might be the enchantment of a reality otherwise bound to conformity and limited by deteriorated mental and physical faculties. We further argue that the experimental prototypes hold a capacity to structure and enable an essentially deanthropocentric relationality that affords cross species relations and installs a sense of wonderment by extending the life-worlds of elderly people beyond the windowpane and towards the birds in the park. In conclusion we suggest that a stake, under these conditions, could be related to the methodological inventiveness by which prototypes and practices are associated with the speculative attempt at producing novel realities such as new interspecies relations.

Resumen: Un enfoque territorial ambiental que considera la multidimensionalidad del desarrollo sustentable, con énfasis en las particularidades que aporta la cultura, orienta la convergencia en el paisaje. El paisaje expresa como ningún otro concepto el carácter del territorio socialmente percibido. Así concebido es un activo económico que el turismo puede motorizar como oportunidad de desarrollo endógeno. El turismo de base comunitaria puede ser un eje clave activable de políticas territoriales. Se presenta el caso del proyecto Paisaje de islas: patrimonio y turismo como estrategia del desarrollo solidario en curso en el área de la Micro Región Insular de Santa Fe. Se discute el rol estratégico del turismo en las políticas públicas; su formulación como excusa para el mejoramiento de la calidad de vida y la gestión del riesgo; y su capacidad de resistencia ante el avance de la urbanización con modelos de tierra firme y protección del patrimonio como recurso para vivir. O objetivo desse artigo é identificar possíveis ações e estratégias do design na valorização do território e dos recursos relacionados à gastronomia regional, no contexto da Economia Criativa, a partir da seleção e análise de um conjunto de iniciativas. Inicialmente apresenta-­‐se o referencial teórico que fundamenta as discussões em torno das contribuições do design para a valorização do território. São apresentadas e analisadas quatro iniciativas: Instituto Atá, no Brasil, La Jeune Rue, na França, Grandma’s Design, na Holanda, e Eataly, de origem Italiana. O resultado obtido a partir da análise é um conjunto de potenciais focos de atuação do designer na valorização da cultura gastronômica do território.

A compatibilização de projetos contribui para evitar inconsistências entre disciplinas, mas nem sempre é bem conduzida quando feita com ferramentas bidimensionais. Neste estudo, analisou-se a aplicação da tecnologia BIM (Building Information Modeling) na detecção de interferências entre os projetos arquitetônico, estrutural e hidrossanitário de uma residência unifamiliar. A metodologia incluiu a modelagem dos projetos no software Revit e a análise de conflitos no Navisworks, com uso do recurso Clash Detective. Foram identificadas 72 interferências: 31 entre os elementos arquitetônicos e estruturais, e 41 entre estrutura e instalações hidrossanitárias. Parte dos conflitos foi resolvida com ajustes simples nos modelos, mas alguns, especialmente os relacionados às tubulações, exigiram alterações no traçado e revisão de elementos estruturais. A experiência mostrou que o uso de modelos 3D favorece a antecipação de problemas ainda na fase de projeto, o que pode reduzir retrabalho e facilitar a tomada de decisão técnica. Apesar da análise estar limitada a um único projeto, os resultados obtidos dialogam com estudos anteriores sobre o uso do BIM na construção civil, indicando benefícios práticos para a coordenação de projetos.

In collaborative design process, Intermediary objects (IOs) are used as external representations and mediators that facilitate the social interactions between heterogeneous social worlds. However, the IOs are loosely defined and loosely structured. They are always viewed as just the product models and confused with the technologies and the tools used to support them. Other aspects of the IOs like the product use and the interaction with the IO are neglected during their definition. The aim of this paper is to introduce the concept and the roles of IOs and to propose a framework to define a structure for these objects. This framework could be used as a base for designing and choosing the IOs in the context of multidisciplinary convergence about “product-use” couple. This paper presents a combined solution to realistically insert virtual objects into real scenes. The solution proposed focuses on the illumination problem, which was divided in three parts: estimating the radiance reaching objects' surface, through an Image Based Lighting technique; self shadowing, through an Ambient Occlusion technique; and lighting effects due to lens properties, through Bloom and Exposure Control techniques. These techniques were implemented in a single solution which obtained good visual results. As interactive performance was achieved, the solution presented is suitable to insert virtual objects into Augmented Reality applications in a photorealistic way.

With the development of digital design and production technologies, wood design and production processes can be controlled more easily, while assembly and production can be carried out faster. Studies on wood technologies show that each technology has different performances. In order to analyze these technologies correctly, wood technologies need to be classified within themselves and evaluated according to performance criteria. The aim of the study is to classify wood technologies in terms of material, design and production, and to evaluate these technologies and processes according to performance criteria. Wood materials produced with technology are grouped as mass timber (CLT), Glulam (Laminated Timber), NLT (Nailed Laminated Timber), wood composites and thermally modified wood. In terms of design, parametric design, BIM (Building Information Modeling), CAD (Computer Aided Design), digital simulation, digital modeling and artificial intelligence integrated design applications and 3D printing technologies are discussed. Previous studies informed by the concept of absorptive capacity predominantly laid emphasis upon static aspects and for the most part utilized quantitative methods. In contrast, the present comparative case study takes the processual nature of the phenomenon into account. Based upon findings from four case studies in the optics industry in the U.S. and Germany we contribute to the literature by elucidating how technology transfer between research institutions and private sector companies is organized. We highlight the absorption processes involved, the role of meeting management and information exchange practices that are moderated by boundary spanners and power relationships, the institutional and regional embeddedness of actors involved, as well as social factors that serve as a 'glue' for absorptive capacity.

Transformative education requires the participation of teachers with social-emotional skills. Examining the central role of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and the educational value of cooperative games (following the holistic approach of the Findhorn Foundation), the present contribution explores the emotions experienced and described by 157 second-year students from the Primary Education Master’s programme at the Free University of Bozen (Italy). The students engaged in one or more sessions of cooperative games, involving body and non-verbal communication. The main categories relating to SEL which emerged from the Grounded Theory (GT ) data analysis will be presented, namely: “experiencing relational well-being”, “discovering self-other”, “opening up to diversity”, and “growing professionally”. Finally, the educational relevance of cooperative games within a holistic approach to promoting social-emotional skills in initial teacher training will be discussed.

This article introduces Deep Listening, a novel transdisciplinary research agenda and framework for collaborative climate adaptation. It argues for the urgency to develop a communication approach in understanding how frontline communities interact with mediating institutions. Deep Listening is presented in five components: 1) knowledge sharing (mutually agreed upon protocols for data production and use); 2) holding space (co-creating spaces where institutional actors and communities can exchange, learn from each other and discuss); 3) the production and sharing of climate imaginaries (where local or Indigenous knowledge and community values are respected); 4) sensemaking with a diversity of perspectives and scientific data; and 5) evaluation and monitoring support to assure accountability and to assess quality of information. Based on a literature review of adaptation studies, the case is made that the Deep Listening approach can enhance the sense of procedural justice and mitigate maladaptive outcomes.

The university-industry collaborations are of considerable significance for the multifaceted and sectoral industrial design discipline. It is one of the most crucial sources for students to obtain ideas and information about which sector they will turn to during their education process. The inclusion of these resources in industrial design education is effective in the student's competence acquisition as well as orientations. We observe that these collaborations, which are the focus of industrial design education in Türkiye, take place in activities, such as project courses, workshops or competitions. To contribute to the development of these models, this study revealed the contributions of the University-Industry cooperation stakeholders and the learning from a descriptive perspective of design educators. The design and design processes of the workshop, which involved 30 students forming six teams, were made and finalized in line with the relevant literature. This study aimed to provide two main contributions: supporting teamwork in educational processes and creating professional interfaces in industrial design. With the experiences gained, a sustainable and collaborative model has been proposed for implementation and development in industrial design education processes.

This paper describes an agent approach to sharing and synchronising building model data among CAD and virtual world systems. Virtual worlds facilitate a level of communication and collaboration not readily available in conventional CAD systems. The integration of virtual worlds and CAD systems using a common data model can make a significant impact on synchronous collaboration and real time multi-user multi-disciplinary modification of building data. By using agents, the integration of virtual worlds and conventional CAD systems can go beyond that of passive data transfer. Data within a central database is monitored and the relevant applications using the data are notified automatically of any changes through sensors and effectors embedded within agents that define their interface to the database. We use an object-oriented EDM database as the central repository of data and Active Worlds as the virtual environment that is coordinated with the shared data within the database. An interface agent is being developed to connect the virtual world to the database to allow active data access and modification. This agent approach can be extended to the integration of other applications and data models.

One foundational requirement of opportunistic design collaboration when using a graphic representation medium is emergence. A system architecture to support opportunistic design collaboration based on emergence is proposed.

This paper summarizes and introduces the Collaborative Visualization Environment (CoVE) at the Aerospace Systems Design Laboratory (ASDL) at Georgia Tech. The CoVE is an advanced visualization facility consisting of an 18 ft x 10 ft display wall for high-resolution real-time visualization in support of collaborative design activities. Incorporating the latest advances in computing technology and graphics processing, the CoVE allows for the simultaneous display of a large amount of information and manages this information in a way that facilitates increased awareness of the design. Tools and techniques developed at ASDL not only increase the speed and fidelity of the design process but also allow for increased transparency of this process. For the first time, a sensitivity matrix with over sixty independent and dependent variables can be visualized simultaneously. This is in contrast to a typical display system where only about 15% of the information associated with a problem can be simultaneously visualized. January 2004, it has been used by hundreds of engineers, technologists and decision makers from industry and government including General Electric, Pratt & Whitney, Raytheon, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Rolls-Royce, NAVAIR, the Navy Labs, and NASA to name a few. Over 120 graduate students and 20 research engineers have utilized this advanced facility to demonstrate design tools and methods for a wide variety of unconventional, multi-mission systems. In 2005, the CoVE will be upgraded to include high-fidelity physics-based computing capability supported by Dell ® high performance computing clusters. This technology will enable greater design space exploration and the analysis of technologies for large scale systems-of-systems.

Coordinated Management of Meaning (CMM): A Research Manual invites those who are interested, intrigued, or invested in CMM to explore the theory as method. Through conversations, Rascon and Littlejohn discussed the many research possibilities and created a manual that offers several frameworks for practical research. The manual provides contexts for applying CMM tools and models as well as many examples from researchers and professionals. Those who have been introduced to CMM and are interested in discovering possibilities for their research and practical interests at any level should enjoy the offerings of this book.

Natural resource management decisions can be based on incomplete knowledge when they lack scientific research, monitoring, and assessment and/or simultaneously fail to draw on local ecological knowledge. Many community-based forestry organizations in the United States attempt to address these knowledge gaps with an integrated ecological stewardship approach that balances ecological, social, and economic goals. This paper examines the use and integration of local knowledge and conventional science in ecological stewardship and monitoring by seven community-based forestry demonstration projects. Through document reviews and interviews with both participants and partners of all of these communitybased organizations, we found that all the community-based forestry groups incorporated local ecological knowledge into many aspects of their management or monitoring activities, such as collaboratively designing monitoring programs with local ranchers, forest workers, and residents; involving local people in collecting data and interpreting results; and documenting the local ecological knowledge of private forest landowners, long-time residents, and harvesters of nontimber forest products. We found that all the groups also used conventional science to design or conduct ecological assessments, monitoring, or research. We also found evidence, in the form of changes in attitudes on the part of local people and conventional scientists and jointly produced reports, that the two types of knowledge were integrated by all groups. These findings imply that community-based forestry groups are redistributing the power of conventional science through the use of diverse knowledge sources. Still, several obstacles prevented some local, traditionally underrepresented groups from being significantly involved in monitoring and management decisions, and their knowledge has not yet been consistently incorporated.

In Competency-based Education (CBE), learners acquire skills and knowledge through a personalized and flexible learning path, based on their prior knowledge and skills. To support learners in selecting career pathways that match their interests and competencies, recommender models are widely used. Recommender models (RM) analyze learners' competencies, interests and goals to suggest career pathways suited for them. This paper reviews literature by analyzing recommender models used for career pathway selection in CBE through desk study. First, it explains the concepts of CBE. Secondly, it discusses the types of recommender models used for career pathway selection in CBE. Lastly, it discusses various recommender models developed for career pathway selection highlighting their strengths and weaknesses. Findings from the review reveals that hybrid recommender model is popularly employed for career pathway selection compared to content-based, knowledge-based, and collaborative filtering recommender models as it gives a higher level of accuracy in the recommendation. Overall, this review paper contributes to the growing body of literature on recommender models for career pathway selection in CBE. In addition, it provides valuable insights for practitioners, researchers and emphasizes the need for future research to address the challenges associated with recommender models for career pathway selection in CBE.

This article aims to describe the learning model based on the local culture for early childhood. The study used an action-based qualitative approach. The research target was 27 children aged 5-6 years. The research was conducted at PAUD Garuda and TK Aisyiyah Gandekan Surakarta, located in Bengawan Solo river basin. Data collection techniques used semi-structured interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis used Miles and Huberman interactive models. The data were analyzed in accordance with Miles and Huberman procedures using content analysis models. As a result of the research, it is possible to formulate the findings that flood disaster mitigation learning which is based on local culture, provide children' interests and excitement in accordance with their basic nature of playing. The results of this study also make children regardless of the pressure and fear of their soul through traumatic healing from the flood disaster that always comes.

Since 1936, the William T. Grant Foundation has been committed to furthering the understanding of human behavior through research. Today, the Foundation supports research to understand and improve the settings of youth ages 8 to 25 in the United States. We are interested in studies that strengthen our understanding of how settings work, how they affect youth development, and how they can be improved. We also fund studies that strengthen our understanding of how and under what conditions research is used to influence policies and practices that affect youth. Important settings include schools, youth-serving organizations, neighborhoods, families, and peer groups.

Evolving from the dawn of the design industry during the first Industrial Revolution in the 18th Century to the Industrial Revolution 4.0, the concept of design research has extended from the humble beginning of studying how to improve the quality of design artefacts and design process to a bigger perspective of solving design problems. However, the so-called design problem may not be the problem that can be effortlessly solved with the creation of design artefacts or ideas; it may involve wicked problems that require researchers to look into the matter comprehensively and holistically. It requires systems thinking, socio-technical systems approach, and the new DesignX concept posited by Donald A. Norman and other design scholars. This article explores this new extended horizon of design research and discusses possible research ideas and future spectrums. It provides insight to prospective postgraduate students who are interested in conducting research in the area.

Human behavior modeling in social networking application aims to ensure that human considerations for learners and designers have a prominent place in the integrated design and development of sustainable, smarter products throughout the total system lifecycle. Social networks blend self-directed learning and prescribed, existing information. The selfdirected element creates interest within a learner and the ability to access existing information facilitates its transfer, and eventual retention of knowledge acquired. The ecological crisis corrupts natural cycles, damages networks of organisms, and disrupts the ecosystem equilibrium. In response to the ecological crisis, the concept of circularity proposes reformative actions. However, these actions are insufficient to reverse the crisis and achieve ecological integrity because they are non-holistic and based on human concerns and priorities. A more inclusive and integrative mindset is necessary for better-functioning circular processes. In this regard, this research presents a theoretical framework for an alternative circular design model-Toroidality-which is driven by collective knowledge and participatory action. Toroidality functions through the integrative capacity of collective knowledge and collaboration among human and non-human stakeholders in the ecosystem. Based on the intertwined cycles of collective knowledge and collective value-creation, Toroidality becomes a self-feeding circular design model. Through its four-phased circular design processes, Toroidality claims to generate solutions that have regenerative capacities. This article clarifies the conceptual background, theoretical framework and complementary notions to present the fundamentals of Toroidality. After this initial explanatory article, the dynamics of the phases and interactions among the stakeholders are aimed to be explored and reported in the following research, through a real-life case study.

One of the fundamental goals of 21st-century education is to raise individuals who can question, structure, and creatively transform information. Achieving this goal is possible through the development of mental skills beginning in early childhood. In recent years, the growing interest in coding education has provided an important opportunity to support children’s thinking skills. However, for this opportunity to result in meaningful and lasting gains, it is essential to develop algorithmic thinking skills, which form the foundation of coding, from an early age.
In line with this objective, the ALGOLITTLE project developed a unique and creative teaching material designed to foster algorithmic thinking skills in early childhood. The game, composed of sequential, looping, and conditional cards, enhances children’s cognitive abilities such as sequential thinking, pattern recognition, decision-making, and problem-solving. Moreover, by allowing children to create their own cards and rules, it simultaneously encourages the development of creativity.
In addition, the collaborative aspect of the game—where participants create drawings together on a shared surface following the instructions—transforms the activity from an individual task into an interactive learning process based on cooperation and verbal expression. Processes such as decision-making, coordinating with others, visualizing thoughts, and self-expression that occur during the game extend algorithmic thinking beyond being a purely cognitive skill and reposition it as a multidimensional learning space.
Furthermore, the unplugged nature of the game makes it developmentally appropriate for early childhood and offers a rich learning experience without the need for digital technologies. It allows children to develop algorithmic thinking, creative production, and social interaction skills simultaneously.
With all these features, the ALGOLITTLE card game presents a unique model for supporting algorithmic thinking in early childhood through a creative, interactive, and pedagogically sound approach. Adaptable to different age groups and educational contexts, this card game goes beyond being just a project output—it holds the potential to provide a holistic learning experience that supports cognitive, creative, and social development in early childhood education.
It has also been used in practices involving not only young children but also teachers and teacher candidates, receiving strong positive feedback for supporting skills such as sequencing, problem-solving, generating alternatives, and creative thinking. In this respect, it is considered a practical and inspiring resource for educators seeking to create creative and collaborative learning environments.

21. yüzyılda eğitimin temel hedeflerinden biri, bilgiyi sorgulayabilen, yapılandırabilen ve yaratıcı biçimde dönüştürebilen bireyler yetiştirmektir. Bu hedef, erken çocukluk döneminden itibaren zihinsel becerilerin geliştirilmesiyle mümkün olabilir. Son yıllarda özellikle kodlama eğitimine gösterilen yoğun ilgi, çocukların düşünme becerilerini geliştirmeye yönelik önemli bir fırsat alanı sunmaktadır. Ancak bu fırsatın anlamlı ve kalıcı bir kazanıma dönüşebilmesi için kodlamanın temelini oluşturan algoritmik düşünme becerisinin erken yaşlardan itibaren kazandırılması gereklidir. Bu hedefe uygun olarak ALGOLITTLE projesi kapsamında geliştirilen kart oyunu, erken çocukluk döneminde algoritmik düşünme becerilerinin kazandırılmasına yönelik özgün ve yaratıcı bir öğretim materyali olarak tasarlanmıştır. Sıralı, döngüsel ve koşullu kartlardan oluşan bu oyun, çocukların adım adım düşünme, örüntüleri tanıma, karar verme ve çözüm üretme gibi zihinsel becerilerini geliştirirken, kendi kartlarını ve kurallarını oluşturmalarına olanak tanıyarak yaratıcılıklarını da desteklemektedir. Ayrıca, katılımcıların yönergeler doğrultusunda ortak bir resim alanı üzerinde birlikte çizimler yapmaları, oyunu yalnızca bireysel bir etkinlik olmaktan çıkararak iş birliği ve sözlü ifade becerilerine dayalı etkileşimli bir öğrenme sürecine dönüştürmektedir. Oyun sırasında ortaya çıkan karar verme, birlikte hareket etme, düşünceyi görselleştirme ve kendini ifade etme gibi süreçler, algoritmik düşünmeyi salt bilişsel bir becerinin ötesine taşıyarak çok boyutlu bir öğrenme alanı olarak yeniden konumlandırmaktadır. Üstelik oyunun bilgisayarsız bir etkinlik olarak tasarlanmış olması, erken çocukluk döneminin gelişimsel özelliklerine uygun bir öğrenme deneyimi sunmakta; çocukların dijital teknolojilere ihtiyaç duymaksızın algoritmik düşünme, yaratıcı üretim ve sosyal etkileşim gibi becerileri bir arada geliştirmelerine olanak tanımaktadır. Tüm bu yönleriyle ALGOLITTLE kart oyunu, algoritmik düşünmenin erken çocukluk döneminde yaratıcı, etkileşimli ve uygun pedagojik yaklaşımla desteklenmesine yönelik özgün bir örnek sunmaktadır. Farklı yaş gruplarına ve eğitim bağlamlarına uyarlanabilir nitelikteki bu kart oyunu, yalnızca bir proje çıktısı olmanın ötesine geçerek, erken çocukluk eğitiminde yaratıcı, bilişsel ve sosyal gelişimi destekleyen bütüncül bir öğrenme deneyimi sunma potansiyeline sahiptir. Bu materyal, yalnızca erken çocukluk dönemindeki çocuklarla değil öğretmenler ve aday öğretmenlerle yürütülen uygulamalarda da kullanılmış, sıralama, problem çözme, alternatif üretme ve yaratıcı düşünme gibi becerileri desteklediği yönünde güçlü geri bildirimler alınmıştır. Bu yönüyle, yaratıcı ve işbirliğine dayalı öğrenme ortamları geliştirmek isteyen eğitimciler için uygulanabilir ve ilham verici bir kaynak olarak değerlendirilmektedir.

Bir ürün söz konusu olduğunda bir pazar ve rekabet ortamı oluşmaktadır. Rekabette üstün gelmek için sorunları çözen ve yenilikçi öneriler sunan çeşitli tasarım süreci yöntemleri geliştirilmiştir. Bu çalışmada ise iç mekân tasarım sürecinde karşılaşılan sorunlara yönelik sistematik bir düşünce modeli geliştirmek amaçlanmaktadır. Bu kapsamda, kullanıcı odaklı kalite beklentilerini analiz eden QFD (Kalite Fonksiyon Dağılımı) yöntemi ile yaratıcı çözümler üretmeye odaklanan TRIZ (Yaratıcı Problem Çözme Teorisi) metodolojisi değerlendirilmektedir. Çalışmada halihazırda farklı disiplinlerde kullanılmakta olan QFD ve TRIZ yöntemleri sistematik olarak incelenmiş, betimsel-kavramsal analiz yöntemi ile değerlendirilmiştir. Önerilen modelde kullanıcı gereksinimlerinin sistematik olarak tanımlanması ve bu gereksinimlerin yaratıcı çözüm yollarına dönüştürülmesi hedeflenmektedir. Sonuç olarak, önerilen QFD-TRIZ tabanlı düşünce modeli, iç mekân tasarımında daha verimli, özgün ve kullanıcı odaklı karar alma süreçlerine rehberlik eden yenilikçi bir yaklaşım sunmaktadır.

Architectural design has always been a collaborative process that involves participatory practice. It requires experienced individuals working together; this includes architects, engineers and clients to achieve a singular goal. Therefore, there has been increased interest in achieving a collaborative design studio and developing architecture students' skills. Architecture students need to interact, communicate and debate in design studios with their peers and their instructors. Moreover, they need to co-operate to achieve the same goal in a manner to be prepared to the highly collaborative nature of the architectural practice they will enter Daniels, 2002) [9,10]. This leads to raising the question of ''How can collaborative techniques be addressed in the design studio to enhance the skills of the students and prepare them to profession challenges?" The purpose of this paper is to discover how collaborative design studio can be improved to enhance each participant's contribution in the design process. The study was conducted as a ten days workshop that includes ninety-two students from the third year from the Faculty of Engineering, Alexandria University, Egypt. The researcher used quantitative analysis in forms of questionnaires along the workshop and used tools like ''time and task schedule" and ''peer assessment" to assess their effectiveness.

Setting up collaboration is getting increasingly important in design practice. It is also valuable to involve the stakeholders early in the design process for gathering deeper insights and arriving at innovative ideas. However, high level of uncertainty in the early stages of the process can be an obstacle to initiate collaboration. We are developing a method to support the initiation of multi-stakeholder collaboration, which aims to develop a design concept by integrating user insight with business insight in a single design process. Learning can no longer be dichotomized into a place and time to acquire knowledge (school) and a place and time to apply knowledge (the workplace). TodayÕs citizens are flooded with more information than they can handle, and tomorrowÕs workers will need to know far more than any individual can retain. Lifelong learning is an essential challenge for inventing the future of our societies; it is a necessity rather than a possibility or a luxury to be considered. Lifelong learning is more than adult education and/or training Ñ it is a mindset and a habit for people to acquire. Lifelong learning creates the challenge to understand, explore, and support new essential dimensions of learning such as: (1) self-directed learning, (2) learning on demand, (3) collaborative learning, and (4) organizational learning. These approaches need new media and innovative technologies to be adequately supported. A theory of lifelong learning must investigate new frameworks to learning required by the profound and accelerating changes in the nature of work and education. These changes include (1) an increasing prevalence of Òhigh-technologyÓ jobs requiring support for learning on demand because coverage of all concepts is impossible; (2) the inevitability of change in the course of a professional lifetime, which necessitates lifelong learning; and (3) the deepening (and disquieting) division between the opportunities offered to the educated and to the uneducated. This paper explores conceptual frameworks and innovative computational environments to support lifelong learning and it analyzes why training approaches need to be transcended and how this can be done.

While library commons are designed to increase student use and investment in the library for learning, many of them do little to involve faculty in their operations. Because learning is a cooperative enterprise between faculty and students, a more successful commons might explore opportunities to engage faculty and students in their scholarly and educational work. One strategy for doing this is to work with them to develop events and exhibits that build on the unique environment, tools, and resources of a library commons.

This paper presents a working model of collaborative design pedagogy, developed and tested in an architectural design studio (AD VII) context. As an interdisciplinary study in a theoretical sense, this research introduces a practical and methodological experiment to enhance students' inter-scale and integrative thinking. The study employs a quantitative approach, analyzing data collected through structured surveys that evaluate individual and group work processes over a semester. Findings show that the collaborative method enhances access to information, enriches idea diversity, deepens research quality, increases presentation performance, and strengthens understanding of interdisciplinary relationships and strategic thinking across scales. These outcomes are directly tied to the method's foundational principles: collective intelligence and shared labor. The results point to the potential scalability of this method beyond the design studio, suggesting its adaptability across architectural education curricula. Detailed analysis of the survey data, as discussed in the conclusion, offers practical recommendations for improving the implementation and structure of similar pedagogical models. This study ultimately contributes to ongoing debates about the future of architectural education by providing an evidence-based framework grounded in collaboration and methodical process design.

This diversity, often resulting from product variance and distributed design processes, is especially observed in the automotive industry. In this context, this paper presents a concept for integrating neutral JT (Jupiter Tessellation) based collaboration technologies, in order to bridge information between authoring-system-oriented TDM solutions and comprehensive PDM solutions in a PLM Architecture (PLMA). The benefits of a JT-based data management on the integrative layer are elaborated. Cost and IT system reduction as a result of applying the neutral technology in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) dispensable processes are presented in more detail. Further, the effects of JT integration into up-front PLMA determination approaches are exemplified in terms of a process-oriented approach.
