Young people's use of Technology

This study investigated the impact of Instagram on library and information science (LIS) undergraduate students of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka and Delta State University (DELSU) Abraka, Nigeria. Five research questions aligned with purpose guided the study. The descriptive research design was used in this study. The study population was 200 LIS undergraduate students. The random sampling method was employed to ensure equal inclusion opportunities for all population members in the study. The questionnaire was used as instrument for data collection. The data was analysed using descriptive methods, such as frequency counts. Out of the 200 copies of the questionnaire administered, 162 copies were retrieved and used for the study. Findings indicated that LIS undergraduate students extensively engage with various types of contents on Instagram, especially videos and stories. Secondly, the students post different contents on Instagram, to a very large extent, most especially videos and carousel posts. Thirdly, they gained a lot from the use of Instagram including connecting with lecturers, other students, developing communication skills and seeking guidance. Finally, the findings revealed that LIS undergraduate students encountered problems such as misinformation, addiction, overuse and mental health concern while using Instagram. However, the study concluded thatInstagram presents a valuable platform offering opportunities for professional development, school building and knowledge sharing among LIS undergraduates. The study recommended among others, that the LIS students should share valuable resources like online Evaluation of the Impact of Instagram on Library and Information Science Students'… 2 databases, research tools and library tutorials with engaging visuals to improve their academic prowess.

News consumption is undergoing great changes due to the advance of digitisation. In this context, ascertaining the changes in readers' consumption habits is essential for measuring the scope and effects of digital convergence and the outlook for the future. This article aims to analyse this transformation in the specific case of young people's relationship with news reporting. The methodology is based on a quantitative survey of people aged between 16 and 30 (N=549) in order to examine their consumer habits and perceptions. The results show the emergence of social networks as a news medium and the decline of traditional media, and newspapers in particular. However, we observed a high level of interest in news stories and their positive valuation in civic terms on the part of young people. These data also reveal the obvious appeal of cost-free content. Finally, the results highlight the gender gap with men as the greater news consumers, and the impact of age, with news consumption increasing as young people mature. The conclusions of this research suggest that profound changes are emerging in news consumption patterns and the concept of news among young people.

RESUMEN El consumo de noticias está inmerso en un proceso de grandes mutaciones debido al avance de la digitalización. En este contexto, conocer los cambios en los hábitos de consumo de la audiencia es fundamental para calibrar el alcance y los efectos de la convergencia digital y sus perspectivas de futuro. Este artículo tiene como objetivo el análisis de esta transformación en un caso concreto: la relación de los jóvenes con la información periodística. Partiendo de una encuesta cuantitativa a personas de entre 16 y 30 años (N=549) se examinan sus hábitos de consumo y sus percepciones. Los resultados muestran la emergencia de las redes sociales como soporte informativo y el desgaste de los medios convencionales, especialmente de los diarios. No obstante, se detecta un interés elevado de los jóvenes hacia las noticias y una valoración positiva de las mismas en términos cívicos. Los datos revelan, además, el arraigo de la gratuidad. Finalmente, se constata la existencia de una brecha de género en el consumo informativo, a favor de los hombres, y la incidencia del efecto de la edad, que provoca un aumento del acceso a las noticias a medida que los jóvenes van madurando. Las conclusiones de la investigación sugieren la aparición de cambios profundos en los patrones de consumo y en la concepción de la información por parte del público joven.

English has a long, intimate relationship with the visual: the illuminated manuscripts of mediaeval romance; the woodcuts of 17C chapbooks and 18C broadsheet ballads; the painting and poetry of the pre-Raphaelites; Dickens illustrated by Cruikshank, Milton by Blake, Coleridge by Doré, Ted Hughes by Leonard Baskin; the art of the modern picture-book; the graphic novel; the comic strip from DC and Marvel to manga; the modern audio-visual narratives of film, television and computer games. However, the history of English as a school and university subject has been one of a struggle which has lead to the establishment of the discrete study of linguistic and literary texts, to the exclusion of all else. Indeed, in the early sixties, the school English version of Leavisism sought to protect the sanctity of the word from corruption by the visual, as this quote from David Holbrook's once-influential English for Maturity (1961) shows: ... the word is out of date. It is a visual age, so we must have strip cartoons, films, filmstrips, charts, visual aids. Language is superannuated. ... Some teachers fall for the argument. ... We must never give way: we are teachers of the responsiveness of the word. ... The new illiteracy of the cinema, television, comic strip, film-strip and popular picture paper they accept as the dawn of a new era (pp. 36-37). This issue of English Teaching: Practice and Critique in effect articulates an exact inversion of this argument. Holbrook's sarcasm makes his text easy to invert through paraphrase: "It is a visual age, so we must have strip cartoons, films, charts, television, computer games. We are teachers of the responsiveness of the multimodal sign. The new literacy of the cinema, television, comic-strip and computer game we accept as the dawn of a new era." This latter argument, now well-developed though, almost always partial in some way, in the versions of English practised and taught around the Anglophone worlds, rests on three intellectual justifications. One is semiotic -Saussure's argument that language take its rightful (subordinate) place alongside other sign-systems in a general science of semiology. One is multimodal -in some ways, a logical progression from the first, but subsequent to and consequent on the social view of language articulated in Halliday's Language as social semiotic (1978). And one is cultural, deriving from the tradition of Cultural Studies that began with Raymond Williams' insistence on treating the variety of contemporary popular media of the mid-Twentieth Century as the authentic culture of ordinary people (Williams, 1961).

Background: The proliferation of social media has significantly altered how individuals perceive body image and manage eating behaviors, leading to increased concern regarding the potential exacerbation of eating disorders. This study explores the intricate relationship between social media usage and the prevalence of eating disorders among adolescents and young adults. Objective: This study aims to determine the impact of social media on the health outcomes of individuals, specifically focusing on the development and intensification of eating disorder symptoms. It seeks to understand the role social media plays in shaping body image perceptions and eating behaviors. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in the regions of Punjab and Sindh, involving 550 participants over the age of 18 who were regular users of social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, and TikTok. Standardized questionnaires and interviews were utilized to collect data on social media usage habits, eating behaviors, body image perception, and mental health status. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS v27.0, employing correlation and regression techniques to examine the associations between social media exposure and symptoms of eating disorders. Results: The participant group consisted of 65% females and 35% males, with a mean age of 25.6 years. High engagement with social media was noted, with Instagram (80% usage, 2.5 hours/day) and YouTube (85% usage, 2.0 hours/day) being the most popular platforms. Significant correlations were found between social media addiction scores and various domains of eating disorders: restriction (r = 0.25, p < 0.001), binge eating (r = 0.30, p < 0.001), purging (r = 0.28, p < 0.001), and body dissatisfaction (r = 0.35, p < 0.001). Spearman's correlations highlighted strong interrelationships among different eating disorder behaviors and social media addiction, indicating a pervasive influence across all examined aspects. Conclusion: The study confirms a significant association between social media usage and the exacerbation of eating disorder symptoms. The findings underscore the need for targeted interventions to promote healthy body image and eating behaviors on social media platforms.

The construct of loneliness is well explored within the arts and humanities, but has only recently been considered to be a condition that should be addressed by public health policy. The governments of Japan and the UK have implemented policy that specifically addresses loneliness as a result of its recent identification as a health concern linked with dementia, heart disease, hypertension, and greater risk of morbidity. This thesis undertook an integrative literature review across the arts, humanities, and sciences, and grey literature to provide an expansive picture of a modern conceptualization of loneliness. The results of this thesis find that loneliness is both a health risk and social problem which can be appropriately addressed by government action. However, the question remains as to whether loneliness should be considered a public health concern or a social concern. More international collaboration on the impact of loneliness on populations is recommended.

Research on men's literacy practices, particularly their writing practices, is sparse. The purpose of this study was to examine the writing practices of adult men by focusing on why and how men write autobiographical comic zines and perzines of prose, poetry, and cartoons reflecting online and offline hybridity. A theory of writing as meaning making, a social semiotic perspective, and a view of masculinities as inclusive representations of gender identity informed this study. Using a multiple case study approach, we focused on five middle-class men ranging in age from their early 30s to early 40s who created zines reflecting two different writing genres: autobiographical comic zines and personal zines, or perzines. Data were triangulated by observations, photographs, informal and semi-structured interviews, demographic questionnaires, and examination of the men's zines. Data were analysed inductively by thematic analysis and deductively by principles of the theoretical framework. Findings are drawn about the type of representations, compositional constructions, messages, audience, and community. Men wrote to share life lessons, to express alternative notions of masculinities, and for catharsis. This study provides insight into the literacy practices of adult men that may serve as models to inspire and guide other men's writing.

Background Going to university is an important milestone in many people’s lives. It can also be a time of significant challenge and stress. There are growing concerns about mental health amongst student populations including suicide risk. Student mental health and counselling services have the potential to prevent suicide, but evidence-based therapies are required that fit these service contexts. The Broad-Minded Affective Coping intervention (BMAC) is a brief (6 sessions), positive imagery-based intervention that aims to enhance students access to past positive experiences and associated emotions and cognitions. Given the increase in pornography use among adolescents over the years, we discuss the impact of its use on sexual health development as well as the role of primary care providers (PCPs) in assessing use and providing sexual health education. While pornography use is often viewed negatively, it is important to develop unbiased understanding of the use in order to provide non-judgemental, adolescent-focused and educational care. As PCPs are often the first point of contact when adolescents experience medical and behavioural health concerns, it is essential for them to be equipped to screen for pornography use effectively, create a confidential and comfortable environment to talk about pornography use and sexuality, and be informed of ways to promote open discussion between youth and parents. This paper investigates the impact of social media use on mental health among young adults, focusing on its relationship with anxiety, depression, and self-esteem. As social media platforms become increasingly integrated into daily life, understanding their psychological effects is critical. The study draws on existing research to highlight how curated content and digital connectivity can both support and harm users’ well-being. It also explores strategies for mindful usage and the importance of digital literacy in mitigating negative effects. The findings emphasize the need for balanced social media engagement and the role of mental health advocacy in digital spaces.

This study employs Difference-in-Differences models to evaluate the impact of early social media use - experienced through a personal smartphone - on academic performance among children aged 7 to 16. A unique dataset comprising 5,227 students from northern Italy was constructed by merging data from a specially designed questionnaire on lifetime digital media habits with longitudinal standardized test scores in Italian, English and mathematics. Participants who created a personal social media account in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade were separately matched with late adopters who initiated their first social media account in the 9th grade or later. The findings provide compelling evidence that early engagement with social media adversely affects learning outcomes. Additional evidence of the effects of early social media use on other academic outcomes for which we lack a longitudinal component (school marks, grade repetitions, track enrolment and self-efficacy) is in line with our main findings. We also find supporting evidence that a substantial part of this negative effect is mediated by students’ smartphone pervasiveness in key moments of the day. These results hold significant implications for educators, policymakers and parents, and for the ongoing debate on children's exposure to social media and its consequences for their well-functioning.

Es indudable que la actual sociedad del conocimiento, basada en el desarrollo constante y espectacular de las tecnologías de la información y las comunicaciones (TIC), es ahora la gran fuente de desarrollo económico, social y cultural en el mundo, sin embargo no de manera equitativa. La desigualdad no sólo es de orden tecnológico en cuanto contar con la infraestructura tecnológica, conocida como la brecha digital, menos accesible por los países de menos desarrollo, sino además de otra más inquietante, la brecha cognitiva. Es decir, contar además con el acceso a la información y el conocimiento que se está creando y constantemente aumentando de manera exponencial por todas las sociedades que sin embargo no está al alcance para todas. Es indudable que estas
brechas son producto del modelo neoliberal que impera en casi todo el mundo. Es este modelo económico, donde se privilegia la competencia lucrativa en detrimento de un desarrollo democrático, social y cultural, es la que ha provocado las grandes crisis que actualmente estamos viviendo en todo el mundo incluso en las clases menos favorecidas de los países desarrollados. De esta realidad la UNESCO ha sido consciente. En el marco de la Cumbre del Milenio celebrada el año 2000 en Nueva York, planteó los

This quantitative study investigates the prevalence and patterns of cyberbullying victimization among Kyrgyz school-age children, exploring socio-cultural factors, digital literacy, and parental supervision as potential risk variables. Given the increasing digital access among Kyrgyz youth, examining cyberbullying experiences and related risks is essential. Data were collected from 664 students aged 13–18 using survey methods. Findings revealed significant cyberbullying exposure, identifying critical risk factors. Socio-demographic analysis indicated that students with lower digital literacy were more susceptible to cyberbullying, and parental supervision significantly influenced victimization rates.Additionally, males and females differed in cyberbullying behaviours, reflecting socio-cultural variations. Notably, lower digital literacy correlated with higher victimization risk. These results highlight the need for strengthened digital literacy training, targeted prevention strategies, and greater parental engagement in digital safety education.

Mobile gaming, linked to the effects of student behavior is currently the subject of increasing interest and concern. This is especially true of teachers, parents and the Pacifico O. Aquino elementary school community in Noveleta, Cavite. This poses problems with the effects of mobile gaming on the psychosocial development of pupils. Apparently, they face a crisis in their own development of life, and it is important that they perform well in their studies in order to have a good and positive outlook on life and become better individuals someday. Teachers have observed that students playing mobile games are most likely to forget that they are in the real world. They put themselves on the characters they were playing, making them the hero they wanted. Virtually they win battles, and these give new and challenging experiences that may cause some struggles to balance things because they are so engrossed with the characters they are in. For example, some of the games are online electronic betting games using a mobile app that puts students at risk (Mercado, 2020). Inleiding Geneesmiddelen worden niet alleen door volwassenen gebruikt . Ook aan kinderen worde n regelmatig geneesmiddelen voorgeschreven . Kinderen zijn niet vaak ziek, maar als ze zie k zijn is het meestal ernstig . Medisch gezie n zijn kinderen niet te beschouwen als klein e volwassenen ; niet alleen de dosering van een geneesmiddel kan bij een kind heel anders zijn , ook de werkzaamheid en bijwerkingen kunne n verschillen van die van volwassenen . Artsen en ouders hebben een probleem als ee n kind met een geneesmiddel behandeld moe t worden, omdat de meeste geneesmiddelen nie t voor gebruik door kinderen zijn geregistreerd . Een geneesmiddel zal dan off-label gebruik t moeten worden . De reden dat geneesmiddelen vaak niet geregistreerd zijn voor gebrui k bij kinderen is dat die geneesmiddelen over he t algemeen geen grote omzet zullen genereren : de markt is ongunstig . In veel gevallen zijn er daarom nauwelijks of geen wetenschappelijke gegevens bekend omtrent gebruik va n een geneesmiddel bij kinderen, zoals over d e dosering, de werking en de bijwerkingen. Als er al wetenschappelijke gegevens voorhanden zijn, vinden deze vaak niet hun weerslag in d e registratiedossiers van geneesmiddelen . Hierbij dient men ook te bedenken dat anders dan d e categorie volwassenen, de categorie kindere n bestaat uit zeer verschillende subcategorieën : neonaten zijn slechter met pubers te vergelijken dan pubers met volwassenen . Naast een gebrek aan winstperspectief bij het uitvoeren van dergelijk onderzoek, geldt dat het uitvoere n van onderzoek met en bij kinderen stuit op allerlei bezwaren, onder meer van praktische e n ethische aard. Onlangs heeft de Europese Commissie ee n voorstel uitgebracht voor een Verordening o m onderzoek naar de toepassing van geneesmiddelen en registratie van geneesmiddelen voo r kinderen te stimuleren (zie de bijlage bij di t artikel op p . 46) . In this paper, we focus on young people's use of digital platforms, within the context of a 'live' digital media project. The study draws on Bourdieu's notion of social practices and explores unevenness in the possession of digital capital by young people. We use a live digital media project and draw on a (digital) participatory action research approach to explore the extent of distributed digital capital in evidence with a group of young people from disprivileged backgrounds and their creative use of digital platforms to enact strategies to alter their future prospects. We conclude that for those young people emerging from a challenging habitus, support mechanisms are a crucial element in building a bank of digital capital tradable in other areas of their lives. Communities of practice can support those without privilege to compete on a more level playing field with their privileged counterparts by opening up access to educational cultural capital.

Ainsi la conception de l'histoire qui nous anime n'est-elle ni institutionnelle, ni mémorielle, mais bien prospective, dans l'idée de construire, pierre après pierre, une enquête de fond sur la genèse, les évolutions et les formes d'expression publique d'un discours scientifique d'abord spécialisé et analytique, aujourd'hui globalisé et systémique, sur ce que veut dire agir par la science. Dans cet esprit, le comité d'histoire Inra-Cirad a pour mission de préserver et de valoriser les matériaux documentaires dont disposent ces deux instituts sur l'histoire de la recherche agronomique publique aux XX e et XXI e siècles. Il s'agit au premier chef d'organiser la sauvegarde, l'inventaire et l'exploitation des documents scientifiques et administratifs utiles à la connaissance historique, qu'ils soient sous forme écrite, numérique ou photographique. Il s'agit également de collecter et de valoriser la mémoire professionnelle des différentes catégories de personnels, et les témoignages d'expériences individuelles ou collectives, dans le cadre du travail réalisé par la mission Archorales, initiée il y a plus de vingt ans par Denis Poupardin. L'objectif de cette mission, aujourd'hui sous la responsabilité de Christian Galant, est de collecter les récits et réflexions de ceux, chercheurs, ingénieurs, personnels scientifiques ou administratifs, qui ont participé à la vie de l'Inra et du Cirad et à leurs réalisations scientifiques. À ce jour, la mission Archorales a constitué un fonds considérable de quelque 390 témoignages recueillis et déposés aux Archives nationales. Avec le présent numéro, 147 de ces témoignages auront été publiés dans 18 volumes de la collection Archorales (également consultables sur le site web d'Archorales). Lorsqu'elle débute en 1995, la mission Archorales s'inscrit dans un mouvement alors relativement nouveau, en France et à l'étranger, de collecte d'archives orales au sein d'institutions ou d'entreprises. Les témoignages des acteurs, parties prenantes de l'histoire, sont ainsi destinés à compléter les archives traditionnelles, ou même à remédier à leur absence. Ils enrichissent la connaissance historique en rendant possible la confrontation des points de vue et des vécus, et en donnant une image à la fois plus complexe et plus humaine des organisations. L'archive orale est donc une source précieuse pour donner de la « chair » au récit historique et pour déceler des aspects de la vie scientifique que les textes officiels ignorent le plus souvent. Ainsi, Archorales rend compte du vécu des acteurs de la recherche, de la façon dont ils ont agi, réagi, parfois souffert, au sein des laboratoires, des unités ou des programmes auxquels ils ont participé. La revue Archorales ne prétend pas être une revue d'histoire, mais une publication qui fournit des pièces à verser au débat sur l'histoire de la recherche agronomique, rassemblées grâce à un rigoureux travail de collecte et de mise en forme écrite des témoignages. Nous espérons ainsi donner les meilleures chances à ces prises de parole mûrement réfléchies d'être lues par un large public, averti ou non, qui trouvera là un matériau historique ou mémoriel d'une grande richesse pour tout usage spécifique qu'il voudra en faire : étude, portrait, biographie, histoire familiale... Cette mission archivistique s'inscrit également dans l'ambition du comité d'histoire de promouvoir des travaux de recherche sur l'histoire de l'Inra et du Cirad et, plus largement, sur l'histoire de la recherche et de la science agronomique depuis la fin du XIX e siècle jusqu'à nos jours. Ces travaux doivent permettre d'éclairer la dynamique des savoirs, les réflexions, débats et controverses sur les orientations et sur les finalités de la recherche, enfin les vicissitudes, les contingences, mais aussi les aventures intellectuelles et humaines qui ont traversé cette histoire. Le recueil et la publication des témoignages, leur accompagnement par la photographie ou la publication d'archives, tout comme la rédaction d'articles de synthèse ou de réflexion, s'inscrivent dans cet esprit d'ouverture et de partage de l'analyse historique.

La ricerca EYES UP ha studiato le conseguenze dell’esposizione precoce dei bambini agli strumenti digitali e il rendimento scolastico nel corso della loro carriera scolastica di lungo periodo. L’obiettivo è stato quello di rilevare l’impatto della precocità d’uso dei media digitali sulle performance scolastiche, analizzandone le differenze per genere, background sociale e benessere soggettivo. Utilizzando dati longitudinali sulle performance scolastiche con 4 punti nel tempo e un questionario somministrato a 6609 ragazzi e ragazze di 15/16 anni, il team di ricerca ha potuto condurre analisi longitudinali con matching statistico e stime "difference in differences". I risultati della ricerca EYES UP confermano -
più solidamente dal punto di vista dell'analisi causale - l’esistenza di
rilevanti impatti negativi della precocità di apertura di un account sui social media. Vengono però messe anche in luce alcune aree
di positività da sviluppare per strutturare collettivamente un
processo di socializzazione al digitale significativo ed efficace.

El objetivo de la investigación fue analizar las características, motivaciones y percepciones de las personas en relaciones en línea, así como las diferencias en la evolución de estas en comparación con las relaciones tradicionales fuera de línea en jóvenes adultos de diferentes estados de México, usuarios y no usuarios de aplicaciones de citas en línea a través de una investigación de tipo mixto secuencial exploratorio que combina fases cualitativas y cuantitativas. En el mundo virtual los aspectos psicológicos del proceso amoroso como pasión, compromiso, intimidad, motivación y la evolución de relaciones se da en un imaginario personal y simbólico ante la ausencia del contacto físico. En la fase cuantitativa, se colectó información de 545 personas usuarios y no usuarios de apps de citas (32% hombres y 68% mujeres). En la fase cualitativa se realizaron 6 entrevistas a profundidad para entender el origen, evolución y ruptura o consolidación de la relación. Los hallazgos encuentran similitudes entre relaciones en línea y presenciales, como, el temor a las mentiras o la expectativa de consolidar la relación. Se apreciaron motivaciones asociadas a la aventura, conocer gente y mejorar la comunicación. En conclusión, las herramientas virtuales pueden ayudar a comenzar una relación amorosa, sin embargo, eso no garantiza una relación exitosa. Los hallazgos no sustentan la noción que el amor online sea un fenómeno psicológicamente diferente al amor offline, más bien resulta ser una primera etapa exploratoria en una relación potencialmente amorosa presencial.

Une enquête qualitative menée auprès d’une centaine d’e-commerçants belges a relevé que le contexte concurrentiel dans le secteur est fréquemment considéré comme étant inéquitable, et constituerait un des principaux freins au développement du business en ligne des petites structures belges. Cette présente note synthétise des recommandations d’actions en la matière qui pourraient être prises au niveau des pouvoirs publics.
Il apparaîtrait opportun de réduire ces distorsions de concurrence nettement déséquilibrée, voire déloyale, en veillant à éviter un traitement différent entre les activités commerciales en ligne et offline, ainsi qu’entre les acteurs nationaux et étrangers, ce qui impliquerait de colmater certaines brèches réglementaires et d’adopter de nouvelles mesures, mais aussi de renforcer des contrôles, de façon le plus uniforme possible au niveau européen.

Elle vit à Toronto et dirige l’agence multi-média We animals Media dont elle est la fondatrice. En vingt ans de travail, elle a accumulé une énorme documentation, et multiplié les projets de collaboration avec d’autres photographes, des ONG et des militantes féministes de la cause animale. Jo-Anne McArthur dialogue ici avec Benedetta Piazzesi, philosophe qui a consacré ses recherches aux logiques de gouvernement des animaux à l’époque moderne et contemporaine.

Background: The proliferation of sexting among adolescents around the world today has woven a complex tapestry of sexual expression and exploration. However, its implications extend beyond consensual engagement, occasionally manifesting as a form of cyberviolence. Varied prevalence rates further complicate our understanding of the extent of youth sexting worldwide. Therefore, this study aims to provide a tool to measure sexting in young people from different countries by validating the Sexting Behaviours and Motives Questionnaire (SBM-Q), a comprehensive instrument that captures the diversity of consensual and non-consensual sexting behaviors and motives in different countries. Method: A total of 4739 students, aged 15 to 25, participated. They were from Spain (1563), Croatia (1598), and Bosnia and Herzegovina (1578). Confirmatory factor analyses and multigroup analyses were conducted. Results: The validity of the instrument was confirmed, endorsing its six-factor structure, which includes the dimensions of sending, reasons
for sending, victimization by non-consensual forwarding, receiving, forwarding, and reasons for forwarding. Internal consistency across the three countries further underscores the robustness of the SBM-Q. Conclusions: This validated questionnaire provides a reliable measure for understanding sexting behaviors and motives in different countries.
Cultural nuances are discussed.

Les recherches précédentes dans le domaine de la publicité mobile ont montré qu’il existe plusieurs variables qui affectent l’attitude des consommateurs à l’égard de la publicité mobile. Etant donné l’importance des variables sociales et personnelles dans la détermination de l’attitude, cette recherche s’intéresse à étudier les déterminants sociaux et personnels de l’attitude des consommateurs tunisiens à l’égard de la publicité par SMS à savoir l’influence sociale, l’attachement personnel, l’expérience optimale et l’utilité perçue. Puisque cette recherche est en cours, l’ensemble de nos hypothèses, qui a été récapitulé dans un modèle, sera testé par une étude quantitative ultérieurement.

Le présent travail vise à déterminer les facteurs qui influencent l’attitude des consommateurs tunisiens à l'égard de la publicité mobile et d'analyser l’impact de cette dernière sur leur intention d’utiliser les publicités reçues par SMS pour effectuer des achats. Un modèle conceptuel a été élaboré et la méthode des équations structurelles par le logiciel AMOS a été utilisée pour tester la structure du modèle et les relations entre les variables
sur un échantillon de 210 Tunisiens détenteurs de téléphone mobile. Les résultats obtenus indiquent, d'une part, que la crédibilité, l’informativité, l’irritation et le divertissement affectent indirectement l’attitude des consommateurs tunisiens à l'égard de la publicité mobile à travers la valeur de la publicité mobile et d'autre part, que l’intention des consommateurs d’utiliser les publicités mobiles pour acheter est affectée
positivement par leur attitude à l’égard de ce type de publicité.
Les implications managériales de ces résultats ont été formulées et les limites mises en avant.

En un ejercicio de prospectiva, en el capítulo se exploran algunos de los desafíos a los que se enfrentarán las juventudes jaliscienses hacia la mitad del siglo XXI. De manera específica, se argumenta que las perspectivas tradicionales sobre la juventud resultan insuficientes para comprender la realidad actual, caracterizada por su diversidad y por la intersección de factores culturales, económicos, sociales y políticos. Así, el capítulo se centra en dos tensiones principales. La primera de estas se sitúa entre la esfera educativa y el mercado laboral: se observa una creciente disparidad entre el aumento de la escolaridad entre las y los jóvenes y la escasez de oportunidades laborales acordes a sus habilidades. La segunda tensión se relaciona con el acceso a la información y la participación en los asuntos públicos. A pesar del acceso casi irrestricto a la información que tienen los sectores juveniles, su participación en la toma de decisiones y en la configuración de políticas públicas sigue siendo limitada. A través de un análisis prospectivo, el capítulo plantea dos escenarios posibles para cada tensión: uno que supone la continuidad de las tendencias actuales sin intervención gubernamental, y otro que visualiza un futuro con acciones gubernamentales dirigidas a mitigar los riesgos y potenciar el desarrollo juvenil. El capítulo concluye con una serie de recomendaciones de políticas públicas para abordar las problemáticas identificadas. Se destaca la necesidad de políticas integrales, participativas, con enfoque local, con financiamiento adecuado y que reconozcan la capacidad de agencia de las y los jóvenes.

Finalmente, se mencionan desafíos transversales como la violencia y la digitalización de la vida social, que impactan de manera significativa en la relación de la juventud con el espacio público. El autor subraya la urgencia de comprender estas dinámicas para construir un futuro donde la juventud jalisciense pueda participar activamente en el desarrollo de la región.

The authors of the research study investigated and compared the use of media among young adults (aged 19-24) in Slovakian and Latvian families, along with its potential for fostering deliberative communication both within and outside these family units. The study highlights the very limited interest among young people in actively seeking out quality news sources, with only a small fraction of them consistently visiting reliable news websites, actively searching for high-quality information, and comparing news from various sources. News in the media continues to spark discussions among family members; however, there are still many families who consciously avoid these discussions. Media news continues to incite deliberative discourse within family units, yet a considerable number of families deliberately abstain from engaging in such dialogues. This study discusses the influence of the media environment on content in Latvia and Slovakia. It emphasizes the importance deliberative communication and promoting media and information literacy.

En  este  artículo  se  investigan  los  aspectos  lingüísticos  implicados  en  el  uso  de  la  aplicación digital de ligue Tinder. En particular, se han estudiado (1) cómo se elaboran los perfiles de usuario y cuáles tienen mayor éxito, (2) la importancia que se le da a la norma ortográfica a la hora  de  seleccionar  (o  no)  un  perfil  y  (3)  la  forma  más  adecuada  (o  no)  de  comenzar  una  conversación  una  vez  salta  el  match.  Para  ello  se  siguió  un  método  cuantitativo  mediante  un  cuestionario    distribuido    de    modo    digital.    Se    obtuvieron    268    respuestas    de    usuarios    heterosexuales. Las respuestas eran de tipo cerrado y de tipo abierto. Para analizar los datos se emplearon  los  programas  Excel  y  Sketch  Engine.  Entre  las  principales  conclusiones  es  posible  destacar que (1) en los perfiles se busca brevedad y originalidad y algún dato que dé pie a empezar una  conversación;  (2)  los  comentarios  machistas  o  con  listas  de  requisitos  conducen  a  rechazar  los  perfiles;  (3)  las  faltas  de  ortografía  pueden  conducir  a  un  rechazo,  aunque  guste  la  foto  del  perfil ‒especialmente entre las mujeres‒, (4) los adjetivos más valorados en los perfiles de ellos son  simpático,  sincero,  respetuoso,  espontáneo,  aventurero,  extrovertido  y  humilde;  (5)  los  adjetivos más valorados en los perfiles de ellas son simpática, espontánea, extravertida, sincera y aventurera;  (6)  para  empezar  una  conversación,  de  manera  general,  se  muestra  para  ambos  géneros,  una  preferencia  por  un  saludo  y  una  pregunta,  por  encima  de  comentarios  o  entradas  más  directas;  (7)  los  emojis  sexuales  o  motes  sexuales-afectivos  (monada,  guapa,  bebé...)  provocan un alto grado de disgusto; (8) los usuarios critican los largos silencios o turnos de palabra abandonados

This  article  investigates  the  linguistic  aspects  involved  in  the  use  of  the  digital  dating  app  Tinder.  In  particular,  it  studies  (1)  how  user  profiles  are  crafted  and  which  ones  are  most  successful, (2) the importance of spelling norms when selecting (or not) a profile, and (3) the most appropriate (or inappropriate) ways to start a conversation once a match is made. A quantitative method  was  used  through  a  digitally  distributed  questionnaire.  A  total  of  268  responses  from  heterosexual  users  were  obtained.  The  responses  included  both  closed  and  open-ended questions. Excel and Sketch Engine were used to analyze the data. Among the main conclusions, it can be highlighted that (1) profiles seek brevity and originality, along with some detail to sparka conversation; (2) sexist comments or lists of requirements lead to profile rejection; (3) spelling mistakes can result in rejection, even if the profile photo is appealing —especially among women; (4) the most valued adjectives in male profiles are friendly,  sincere,  respectful,  spontaneous,  adventurous,  extroverted,  and  humble;  (5)  the  most  valued  adjectives  in  female  profiles  are  friendly, spontaneous, outgoing, sincere, and adventurous; (6) when starting a conversation, there is a general preference for a greeting and a question for both genders, over more direct comments or approaches; (7) sexual emojis or affectionate nicknames (like cutie, gorgeous, baby...) provoke a high degree of discomfort; (8) users criticize long silences or abandoned turns of speech

This study aims to explore the implications and potential challenges arising from the (more or less instrumental) use of gender issues by Italian influencers. In particular, we map the pulpiness of the themes emerging from a sample of 30 Italian content creators who base most of their storytelling on feminist claims. The research highlights the trade-off between activism and self-promotion, resulting in the possible dilution of meanings associated with feminism and the trivialisation of social moments. By using a follow-the-medium approach, two digital platforms were selected: Instagram and TikTok. Through a content analysis, this study aims to reflect on the effectiveness and limits of the activism of some influencer in promoting agendas with feminist themes, comparing some case studies. That is, the gender rhetoric adopted by four Italian activists (Giulia Blasi, Irene Facheris, Giorgia Soleri and Federica Fabrizio) were analysed in order to investigate the connections between images of the female body, biopolitics, platform capitalism and neoliberal feminism. The interpretative hypothesis is that there is an inescapable connection between their storytelling and platform capitalism: neoliberal and popular feminism depends on and validates the interests of social media platforms. Consequently, the idea of the influ-activist and feminism arises as a discourse to be performed rather than as a (collective) movement, an issue focused on the individual and her self-branding practices. Practices that are not, however, to be considered purely normative, but nevertheless emphasise forms of empowerment, albeit individual rather than linked to structural dimensions.

By leveraging new Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs), parties can promote online forms of engagement and multi-speed membership models, innovating in their recruitment strategies and creating new member roles. This paper aims to analyse the introduction of digital enrolment, multi-speed membership options and cyber-activism in Spanish non-statewide parties (NSWPs). Our findings are based on a comparative case study of twelve parties, and data have been collected through interviews with staff members, along with the observation of their recruitment websites and statutes. Most NSWPs in Spain have developed online and multi-speed membership options. The majority of these onlinesupporter roles are focused on campaign volunteering and activism, while democratic engagement is secondary. Moreover, NSWP membership structures present hybrid models, combining online and offline activities. This study contributes to a better understanding of small and regional parties’ membership structures, bringing new evidence about the challenges and possibilities of digital membership beyond mainstream parties.

This  paper  investigates influ-activism,  defined  as  the  intersection  of  influencer  culture  and  activism, focusing  on  feminist  and  inclusive  causes.  The  phenomenon  is  framed  within  the  broader  context  of digital  activism  and  platformization,  highlighting  the  mutual  influence  between  influencers and  social media ecosystems. Building on existing literature, the study explores how digital platforms facilitate the rapid mobilization of social movements, while also reshaping activist communication and strategies. The research adopts a netnographic approach, analyzing Instagram profiles of ten female influ-activists aged between  25  and  52.  These  influencers  were  selected  based  on  their  engagement  with  feminist, LGBTQ+,  and  social  justice  topics.  A  thematic  analysis  of  151  posts,  supported  by  NVivo  software, revealed  distinct  generational  patterns  in  their  narratives and  content  strategies.  The  study  identifies two  main  feminist  frameworks:  third-wave  and  fourth-wave  feminism.Third-wave influ-activists emphasize gender equality through a critical lens on sexist language and imagery, often focusing on external  advocacy.  Conversely,  fourth-wave influ-activists adopt  an  inclusive  and  intersectional perspective, promoting themes such as body positivity, gender identity, and self-expression. This wave also demonstrates a higher degree of commercialization, balancing advocacy with branded content. The findings  suggest  that  younger influ-activists leverage  innovative,  media-integrated  formats  to  engage audiences and foster change from within the media landscape. The study concludes that influ-activism represents a new form of digital activism, balancing authenticity, social commitment, and commercial interests. It highlights the evolving role of influencers as key actors in promoting social change in the digital age.

Per meglio comprendere un insieme di fenomeni compositi e in movimento, questo libro riporta gli esiti di una ricerca volta a individuarne le forme prevalenti, i protagonisti ricorrenti, gli spazi privilegiati, le principali ragioni di partecipazione, le narrazioni dominanti e le

This paper explores the practices and meanings Chilean university students (N = 60) deploy in their digitally-mediated romantic relationships and the gendered normativity that governs these interactions. We use a qualitative approach based on semi-structured interviews. Our results evidenced the persistence of gendered codes that restrict the expression of female sexuality, which demonstrates how inequalities of symbolic power are reinforced in the virtual realm.

The development of digital competence among youth is one of the main focuses of European and Italian policies, but only few international studies measure this construct in a statistically rigorous manner. This article analyses data collected up to 2024 using the first standardized performance test available in Italy, which has been developed following the European framework DigComp. The dataset consists of 6,646 records from students ranging from grade 6 to 13 who completed the test between 2021 and 2024, thanks to the participation of at least one of their teachers in the Benessere Digitale-Scuole project. The article examines the performance of the sample across different school levels and grades, as well as individual, family, and school factors influencing digital competence. Results show that digital competence increases with grade level, with communication being the most familiar area to students, while information & literacy appears to be the least mastered. Significant differences are observed on the basis of students’ school level, migratory background, and parental education. Additionally, digital competence shows a positive correlation with self-reported marks, especially in Italian, especially for students from disadvantaged socio-school contexts.
