В статье исследуется влияние религиозного мыслителя и поэта XVII в. Томаса Траэрна на философию Герберта Рида. В центре внимания находится сочинение Траэрна «Сотницы медитаций» (1674 г., опубликовано в 1908 г.), поскольку именно оно оказало наибольшее воздействие на Рида. Автор статьи обозначает два главных вектора влияния: чувство славы, ставшее для Рида интеллектуальным и нравственным ориентиром, и детский опыт, отсылающий к подлинной реальности. Две важнейшие интуиции Траэрнамладенческая невинность, наделенная особым знанием-зрением (воплощенная в образе «Младенческого Ока»), и чувство славы как основной принцип его рационального мистицизма-становятся связующей нитью между творчеством Траэрна и философией Рида. Уже в первой автобиографии Рида 1933 г. появляется одно из его центральных понятий-«невинный взор»,-которое сопоставимо с понятием «Младенческое Око». Опыт детских лет Рид называет единственным реальным опытом, а всю последующую, взрослую жизнь-отголоском той жизни с невинной чувствительностью. Это созвучно мысли Траэрна о том, что именно младенческое состояние соотносится с трансцендентным и универсальным. Важно отметить, что Траэрн акцентирует не только невинность и чистоту, свойственные маленькому ребенку, но и особое знание, которое открыто ему. Такое понимание характерно и для Рида. Наряду с понятием «невинного взора» концепция чувства славы (это чувство Рид трактует как восторг причастности красоте и тайнам мироздания) становится основополагающей в философии Герберта Рида.

This article traces the valuation of the ludic themes of laughter and play in the work of Jonathan Z. Smith, as debated by two of his interpreters. The question at stake is whether "religious" or "secular" thinking is more playful and open to humor. Sam Gill argues that a special form of play animates both certain forms of religion as well as an ideal form of secular theory. Tyler Roberts counters that Gill "domesticates" the ludic, and in doing so misconstrues the playfulness of religion. However, lurking behind the religious/secular dichotomy is a more fundamental question about the nature of the ludic, and what sort of power it possesses to transform human life. I show that the claim that theory is "secular" stabilizes certain ontological parameters about what human life could be. I turn finally to Nietzsche to interrogate an expression of ludic thought that pushes decisively beyond the human.

В статье рассмотрена созданная М. М. Бахтиным методология анализа общественной жизни, которая была им сформулирована на базе хоро- шо известных обстоятельств российской истории и российской же истории лите- ратуры. Всемирно-исторический процесс, по Бахтину, определяется двумя оче- видными факторами: смеховой культурой и официальной культурой, которые в различном соотношении характеризуют ту или иную эпоху. Эмпиризм в подборе фактов, индуктивность выводов характеризуют философскую позицию самого Бахтина как нечто среднее, промежуточное между позитивизмом, феноменоло- гией и историческим материализмом. Сделано заключение о решающей роли в истории соотношения смеховой и официальной культур. В качестве подтвержда- ющего примера приведен анализ произведения Владимира Войновича «Жизнь и необычайные приключения солдата Ивана Чонкина».

Статья посвящена выявлению сущностных признаков, характерных для разных ступеней развития и типов юмора, а также предварительному анализу роли юмора в исторических изменениях, социальной и культурной эволюции. Даны внешние определения юмора, различены две стадии протоюмора и задан критерий «полноценного юмора». Кратко представлены классические теории юмора (превосходство, разрядка и несоответствие), а также некоторые современные теории (благоприятное нарушение, подходящее несоответствие, ложная тревога, сдвиг установок и др.).
Успешные эпизоды юмора (когда люди непроизвольно смеются над забавным сочетанием смыслов) рассмотрены с точки зрения теории интерактивных ритуалов (Э. Дюркгейм, Э. Гофман, Р. Коллинз), что позволяет реконструировать скрытые смыслы и основания реакций участников. Показана значимость в каждом успешном
эпизоде юмора таких известных феноменов, как совместная интенциональность, синхронизация эмоциональных состояний, всплески эмоциональной энергии, положительное подкрепление, динамика группового членства и др. На основе выявления инвариантных черт наиболее правдоподобных теорий дизъюнктивно объединены главные признаки сочетания смыслов в стимуле юмора как «конфузе». Обсуждается проблема долгого выживания юмора в человеческой предыстории и истории, его функциональность как обеспечение индивидуальных, групповых, а также долговременных общественных потребностей и забот. Особое внимание уделено
утверждению социальных норм, порядков, культурных образцов, которые выступают в качестве скрытых символов поклонения в эпизодах юмора как интерактивных ритуалах. Вместе с этим смех и юмор играют немалую роль для расшатывания и изменения порядков, что в последние годы стало привлекать внимание исследователей. Предложена эскизная модель цикла эволюционной спирали, в разных фазах которого смех и юмор выступают в «укрепляющей» и «подрывающей» роли.

В статье рассматриваются различные точки зрения ученых на определение понятия «комическое», его ключевые свойства и факторы, а также описываются средства создания комического эффекта и необходимые для этого условия. Делается вывод об отсутствии универсального определения данного феномена и предпринимается попытка объединения ключевых свойств комического эффекта.

W edukacji rozumianej holistycznie uczestniczą przedstawiciele trzech
grup społecznych. Pierwszą z nich jest środowisko nauczycielskie, które
kieruje procesem dydaktyczno-wychowawczym i go prowadzi, w drugiej
grupie znajdują się osoby będące głównymi podmiotami edukacyjnymi,
czyli uczniowie, a w trzeciej ich rodzice – pełniący rolę współuczestników
w wychowaniu oraz współorganizatorów postępowania edukacyjnego. Śmiech jest obecny w rozmaitych formach aktywności społecznej, wiąże
się z licznymi zjawiskami o charakterze edukacyjnym i terapeutycznym.

Elisabetta Palagi è professoressa associata di Etologia presso il Dipartimento di Biologia dell’Università di Pisa. Nel 2020 ha ricevuto l’Animal Behavior Society Fellowship Award per i risultati raggiunti nello
studio del comportamento animale. Fausto Caruana è Primo Ricercatore dell’Istituto di Neuroscienze del Cnr e insegna Neuroscienze del Linguaggio presso l’Università di Parma. Per il Mulino ha pubblicato "Il
cervello in azione" (con A. Borghi, 2016) e "Come funzionano le emozioni" (con M. Viola, 2018). Il libro di cui si parla nell’intervista è "Perché ridiamo. Alle origini del cervello sociale" (il Mulino, 2024).

Del origen de la risa se conoce mucho menos de lo que se sabe sobre sus ventajas. La primera de ellas es el bienestar inmediato durante y despues de una carcajada.

Purpose. To consider the process of formation of the pedagogical foundations of humor in the philosophical thought of Ancient times of the VIII century BC – V century AD.

Methods. In the course of the study, the methods of historical and pedagogical research were used: retrospective, historical-structural, his-toriographical, historical-genetic, comparative, comparative, historical periodization method, which together allowed for a systematic analysis of the transformation of changes in attitude to humor from a phenome-non of the surrounding reality to an element of the educational process.

Results. The process of formation of philosophical thought in re-lation to humor as a means of educational influence is summarized by demonstrating the development of the literature of Antiquity. The main literary genres containing elements of comedy and bearing an education-al component are listed. The main concepts of the perception of humor (Aristophanes, Plato, Aristotle, Demetrius, Cicero) formed during this period are considered. A look at the Socratic dialogue system is given as one of the first humorous techniques in pedagogy.

Practical implications. The obtained results can be applied in the cre-ation of a unified overview of historical and pedagogical work devoted to the formation and development of humor as a special means of influence in pedagogy, as well as in solving applied didactic tasks in secondary and higher schools. The research materials can form the basis of lectures and seminars on the discipline «History of pedagogy and education» for students of pedagogical specialties and higher educational institutions.

C'est quoi du Duras? «C'est laisser le mot venir quand il vient, dit Marguerite Duras dans le numéro 190 du Magazine littéraire, l'attraper comme il vient, à sa place de départ, ou ailleurs quand il passe. Et vite, vite écrire... J'ai appelé ça littérature d'urgence.» Née en 1914, Duras sent l'urgence plus que jamais, elle qui vient de sortir par miracle d'un long coma. En revenant à la vie, son premier geste fut de reprendre la plume pour écrire La Pluie d'été, roman qu'elle a dédié à son médecin, Hervé Sors. Marguerite Duras écrit ses livres à toute vitesse, en trois ou quatre mois, d'une manière intense et concentrée, dans une écriture courante qu'elle retravaille peu. Elle ne semble pas suivre de plan défini. Pour preuve, L'Amant, rédigé à la va-vite en trois mois et qui a connu un succès mondial, «c'est, confie-t-elle, un désordre total». The habitual and normal is not laughable. What is laughable is untenable deviation. Thus, it is either the triumph of the normative or its failure in the face of a new desired norm that is consolidated in laughter. In this regard, laughter expresses the dynamics of comprehension, socialization, and the development of subjectivity; it is the ability to transcend culture inherent in it. Meanwhile, laughter itself appears to be normative in relation to appropriateness: topic, time, place, channel and measure (in relation to art — genre). In the context of digital communication formats, the problem of appropriateness is exacerbated. It does not come down to the issue of recognizing the laughable. There is a possibility of a sharp reduction in the field of the implementation of laughter culture. Смешно несостоятельное отклонение. Тем самым в смехе либо утверждается торжество нормативного, либо его несостоятельность перед новой желаемой нормой. В этом плане смех выражает динамику осмысления, социализации, развития субъектности. Это встроенная в культуру возможность выхода за ее рамки. Kierkegaard parte de la existencia para ponerla directamente en relación con el individuo humano concreto. Para el filósofo danés existir es ser individuo. Pero, este “individuo existente”, que está en devenir, es decir, que ha de hacerse mediante actos de libre elección, solamente podrá alcanzar la plenitud existencial, cuando se apoye de una manera lucida en el Poder que lo fundamenta, en Dios. Es un ser que está en dependencia respecto a Dios, que existe delante de Dios y que en Dios ha de buscar su paz y su reposo. Pero ¿cómo es esta existencia delante de Dios? Esta será la pregunta que el autor del presente artículo pretenderá responder a partir del camino existencial propuesto por Søren Kierkegaard.

The author of the article notes the influence of the research of Russian folklorists and cultural historians on the interpretation of the 20th century art and captures the humanitarian trend towards searching for primarily archetypal situations and images in contemporary art, Soviet film comedy included. The article highlights the importance of the concepts by V. Propp and M. Bakhtin for the current perception of works of art and urges us not to limit ourselves to this, but to place new accents — to look for differences between the ancient and modern worldviews, between the impersonal solutions to dramatic situations and characters types, on the one hand, and the author’s aesthetics and individual interpretations of the world and man, on the other hand. Based on the material of the comedy films by L. Gaidai and E. Ryazanov, the fairy tale film An Ordinary Miracle by M. Zakharov, the author shows how far the artistic messages of these directors are from the archaic concepts of laughter and comedy, from the ideas of carnival freedom and harmony, which, however, does not deny the use of satire drama structures, palliata, and paired archetypical characters. This refers to the cultural layering of the images of Shurik, Nina, Saakhov, and the comical trio of the Coward, the Fool and the Pro. In addition, the article analyses the role of the water element in the comedy The Irony of Fate... and gives a detailed interpretation of the non-normative behaviours of Zhenya Lukashin and Ippolit possessing only external signs of carnivality. Conclusions are drawn about the dramatic heuristicity of laughter in the comedy films by Gaidai and Ryazanov, which had adaptive psychological functions and also contributed to the internal self-reflection of the Soviet audience. / Автор статьи отмечает влияние изысканий отечественных фольклористов и историков культуры на интерпретацию искусства ХХ века. Фиксирует научную тенденцию поиска в современном искусстве, в том числе советской кинокомедии, прежде всего архетипических ситуаций и образов. Отмечает значимость концепций В. Проппа и М. Бахтина для нынешнего восприятия произведений искусства. Призывает не ограничиваться этим, но расставлять новые акценты — искать различия между древним и современным миропониманием, между имперсональными решениями драматических ситуаций и типов персонажей, с одной стороны, и авторской эстетикой, индивидуальными трактовками мира и человека, с другой. На материале комедий Л. Гайдая и Э. Рязанова, фильма-сказки «Обыкновенное чудо» М. Захарова автор показывает, как далеки художественные послания этих режиссеров от архаического понимания смеха и комизма, от идей карнавальной свободы и гармонии. Что не исключает использования структур сатировой драмы, паллиаты, парных архетипов. Речь идет о культурных напластованиях образов Шурика, Нины, Саахова, забавной троицы Труса, Балбеса и Бывалого. Анализируется роль водной стихии в комедии «Ирония судьбы...». Дается подробная интерпретация ненормативных элементов поведения Жени Лукашина и Ипполита, обладающих лишь внешними признаками карнавальности. Делаются выводы о драматической эвристичности смеха в комедиях Гайдая и Рязанова, обладавших адаптивными функциями, но и способствовавшими внутренней саморефлексии советской аудитории.

This study examines the role of laughter in media content, focusing on traditional non-humorous entertainment talk shows with hosts, guests and a studio audience. The analysis, which documents over 20,000 instances of laughter in just 60 episodes (one laugh every 20 s), highlights the central role of laughter in this reality. The study concludes that: (1) hosts laughed more than guests and studio audiences; (2) in the programmes analysed, female hosts generated almost twice as much laughter as male hosts; (3) laughter followed a recognisable ‘U-shaped’ pattern, peaking at the beginning and end of the programme; (4) jokes with sexual connotations elicited the highest levels of laughter; (5) public service episodes had fewer instances of laughter; and (6) the programme with the host who laughed the most had the largest audience. In conclusion, laughter provides not only emotional, but also ideological gratification, based on the (post)modern concept of happiness.

This study examines the role of laughter in media strategies. The aim is to distinguish between laughter shared ‘with’ the audience and laughter directed ‘at’ the audience. The research briefly traces the historical evolution of laughter from a repressed and morally criticised expression to a symbol of wealth and empowerment, a transformation facilitated by media diffusion. The subsequent analysis, based on the Portuguese context, seems to indicate a current tendency towards a more empathetic, lighter, and more visibly expressive form of laughter that transcends boundaries such as age, education, and social status, thus fostering a deeper connection with the audience. This study underlines the profound impact of laughter on audience engagement and highlights the central role of communal laughter—laughing ‘with’ the audience—in contemporary media communication. In conclusion, the findings suggest that a more empathetic and less critical approach to audience behaviour through laughter has the potential to attract larger audiences. Indirectly, this emerging trend may be indicative of a growing reluctance among members of contemporary society to tolerate ideas or perspectives contrary to their own.

Is laughter a sin? Or is it man’s best medicine? Is laughter now trivialised, mechanised or even weaponised by contemporary media? This book explores the social history of laughter in the West, from classical antiquity to the present day. Engaging with a range of thought from Plato to Nietzsche, it moves from classical to modern thought, considering the changing emotional climate of societies – including the postmodern "dictatorship of happiness" – and the role played by the technological changes of the last century in shaping our interpretation of laughter. A broad, historical study of the physical and emotional aspects of laughter, as well as its social role, A Cultural History of Laughter will appeal to scholars of sociology, history and cultural studies, among other fields of knowledge.

Lviv humour at Chornohora, or Summer of the quiet madmen. July-August 1937 The aim of the article is to introduce the humour of the Lviv intellectual milieu of the interwar period. The contribution is based on source material in the form of a preserved journal of the expedition to the Chornohora in 1937. The paper sheds some light on the main issues related to the notion of a sense of humour in human culture and then edits the source material. The material made it possible to identify one of the participants of the expedition, Stanisław Hubert (1905-1983), a Polish professor of law. The journey to the Eastern Carpathians was an expedition that took place shortly after he obtained his habilitation degree at the Jan Kazimierz University in Lviv. The humour presented in the journal is of an intelligent and affiliative nature referring to the experienced unexpected situations that took place during the expedition. It can be hypothesised that this is a type of surrealist humour that had its origins in the 1920s and is still present in the culture today.

This article aims to revisit Clement of Alexandria's Paedagogus 2.5.45-8 discussing whether Clement holds a moderate position οf laughter or, like most early Christians, tends to an "antigelastic" position. Some scholars, such as Stephen Halliwell and Laura Rizzerio, have concluded that Clement holds an intermediate position between an optimistic approach to laughter and its condemnation. However, in this essay, we argue that while   
Clement's position is not a straightforward antigelastic one, his apparent     
acceptance of laughter is so narrow that his moderate view ends up being.  compromised. Ultimately, he is strongly inclined to condemn laughter and to prescribe an ascetic life devoid of laughter.

Artykuł zawiera sprawozdanie z badań poświęconych występującym w polskiej literaturze popularnej XIX wieku komicznym treściom związanym z edukacją - zarówno tej w sferze rodzinnej, jak i będącej elementem publicznego systemu oświaty. Na podstawie analizy treści 47 utworów literackich, autor wskazuje najistotniejsze wzory osobowe i wątki komiczne związane z edukacją, przedstawiając je na tle ówczesnej kultury śmiechu oraz okoliczności recepcji komizmu.

The aim of the article is to present regional humorous discourse as exemplified by contemporary humour and (extra)linguistic picture of the world in the Highland and Silesian ethnic groups. The investigation has been narrowed down to the analysis of a specific fragment of reality, which is the picture of marriage functioning in the aforementioned communities. A distinctive point of view, characteristic of the groups under consideration, seems to be the decisive factor for the categorization of the world or for the process of shaping the perspective from which a given object, subject, or quality in the linguistic picture of the world is perceived, and the stereotypes (of a husband, wife, marriage, and many more) which function in a given community are best reflected in regional humour. Распространение принципов политической корректности в мире и их закрепление в различных языках, прежде всего в английском, заметно сказались на тематическом разнообразии современного юмора. Анализ английских шуток, представленных за последние несколько лет на ряде YouTubeканалов, показывает, что юмористами наиболее активно используются темы алкоголизма, секса, супружеских и коллегиальных отношений. Ранее популярные шутки, затрагивающие этническую и расовую принадлежность людей, преподносятся как проблема политической корректности.

The author demonstrates the existence of the various types and functions of laughter based on concepts found in three plays written by the Skamander poetic group: Złodziej idealny [The Ideal Thief] by Jaroslaw Iwaszkiewicz (written in 1923-1924), Powrót mamy [Mother's Return] (1935) and Baba-Dziwo (1938) by Maria Pawlikowska-Jasnorzewska. In the presented world, she finds manifestations of somatic laughter that express the joy of life or the madness of the committed, laughter that possesses the power to change reality and break down the forms. The protagonists also use laughter as a mask, covering up surprise, fear or embarrassment. In this way, they turn controversy into conversation. The characters also use the social role of laughter to create a community, to define its boundaries, to determine the personal state of the group or to agree on attitudes and behaviour. The literary images of people laughing have also become examples of cultural laughter, which is why the author has shown the comedy work of the environment of the Skamanderites against the background of the practices of Young Poland and the Twenty Years. At the same time, she opposes the reduction of the Skamander's "gesture of laughter" exclusively to joyful self-acceptance.

Commentators oft cite the rather grand claim that for Hegel there was no
concept of individual personality, subjectivity nor personal autonomy in
Ancient Greece. Hegel’s claim is either taken as orthodox and making
sense in the Hegelian historical system as a whole and so little discussed;
or is flatly ignored as the worst kind of metaphysical obfuscation; a
response a little too comfortable for liberal thinkers. Neither reaction is
entirely satisfying. Not enough attention has been paid to it, especially for
the vast majority of social and political thinkers who would find it at least
contentious, so the present paper aims to assert its significance both for
Hegelian politics as a whole and to pay enough attention to it in order to
make it very difficult for those who find it a contentious statement to
continue to ignore it. One wants to ask what it might mean for one’s selfunderstanding to be so radically different that, as a human being, I
understand myself as first and foremost (and perhaps completely) not as a
subjective individual. It is conceptually very difficult to be a self-conscious
individual -- in even a minimal sense -- without some idea of being an
atomic, individual unit. It is the claim of the following argument that a full
understanding of this distinction, between ancient and modern selfunderstandings, would lead to a revision of Hegel’s liberal credentials,
though not entirely for liberal reasons.

Ist es Zufall, dass drei der wichtigsten (Vor-)Denker dessen, was heute ›französische Theorie‹ heißt, auch Übersetzer waren? Emmanuel Levinas, Paul Ricœur und Jacques Derrida: Bei allen drei findet sich im Anfang der schriftstellerischen Karriere eine selbst angefertigte französische Übertragung – zu demselben deutschsprachigen Autor, Edmund Husserl. Das vorliegende Buch widmet sich zum ersten Mal eigens diesem translatorischen Ursprung der französischen Nachkriegsphilosophie und zeigt in minutiösen vergleichenden Lektüren auf, wie die Beschäftigung mit der Übersetzung zu einem neuartigen Verständnis auch des Originals führt. So, durch die Linse der fremden Sprache, treten bei Husserl erstaunliche Bezüge zu zwei seiner Zeitgenossen, Sigmund Freud und Walter Benjamin, zutage und es werden drei Texturen lesbar als ein Gespräch. Es ist ein geteiltes Nachdenken darüber, was das, ›nachdenken‹, eigentlich ist und was sein (psychischer Ab-)Grund; darüber, dass das Fortleben, die Wiederkehr in Übersetzungen im Fall von philosophischen Texten nicht bloße Laune der Rezeptionsgeschichte ist, sondern sich in solcher Wiederkehr die geheime Quelle von Philosophie überhaupt bemerkbar macht. Diese Quelle, der unerhörte Ursprung des Theoretisierens ist bei Husserl, via Frankreich mit Freud und Benjamin enggeführt, die Zwangsneurose, die nichts mehr liebt als die Wiederholung.

Introducción: Este texto analiza las concepciones filosóficas de Henri Bergson y Vladimir Jankélévitch sobre el tiempo y la música. Bergson destaca la intuición y la duración temporal como medios para comprender la realidad, mientras que Jankélévitch se centra en lo inefable musical y el silencio como reveladores de lo real. Metodología: El estudio aborda la filosofía de ambos autores, explorando cómo la música, al ir más allá del logos, revela aspectos esenciales del tiempo y de lo incomprensible. Se comparan sus teorías sobre la relación entre el tiempo, la música y la realidad. Resultados: La música es presentada como una articulación entre el tiempo y lo real, una experiencia que no debe ser descrita, sino vivida. Jankélévitch compara la música con el amor y la existencia, destacando su carácter inefable e irreductible al lenguaje verbal. Discusión: Ambos filósofos sugieren que la música revela aspectos esenciales de la existencia que no pueden agotarse con palabras. El silencio es la respuesta adecuada, permitiendo que lo otro se manifieste. Conclusiones: La música, como una experiencia irreductible al lenguaje, construye una filosofía de la existencia. Insistir en describirla con palabras puede ocultar su verdadera esencia.

La angustia, el instante, la ironía Observaciones sobre lo electivo en la obra de Soren Kierkegaard MARTÍN ALOMO "La angustia es la realidad de la libertad en cuanto posibilidad frente a la posibilidad", escribe Kierkegaard (1844: 50) en una definición preliminar de su estudio del concepto de la angustia. De aquí se sigue el carácter angustioso de la posibilidad, al verse redoblada, i. e. al verse como un puro poder. Se puede, entonces me angustio, independientemente de qué es lo que se pueda. La sola posición de la posibilidad como tal resulta angustiante, ya que pone al individuo en situación de tener que elegir (López, 2009). Este planteo, como puede notarse, nos lleva rápidamente a pensar en la responsabilidad del sujeto. Umberto Eco, en El péndulo de Foucault, les hace sostener a Casaubon y a Belbo el siguiente diálogo: "-¿Sabe que uno puede estar obsesionado toda la vida por el remordimiento, no por haber elegido el error, porque siempre cabe arrepentirse, sino por no haber podido probarse a sí mismo que se era incapaz de elegir el error…? Yo he sido un traidor potencial. ¿Con qué derecho podría escribir ahora una verdad y enseñarla a los demás?-Perdone usted-dije-, pero potencialmente también hubiese podido ser Jack el Destripador y no lo ha sido. Lo suyo es pura neurosis." (Eco, 1989: 100-101). Salto, acto, angustia Decimos que aquella definición de Kierkegaard es preliminar, ya que a partir de ella comienza su compleja elaboración del concepto, y en el transcurso de la misma, éste irá encontrando diferentes definiciones.

The creative industry of a nation is significant due to the numerous advantages they derive from it; akey part of
this industry is Stand-Up Comedy (SUC). The acceptance of SUC in Nigeria has assumed a higher level. One
of the reasons for this is because of its ability to help alleviate stress. Kehinde Peter Otolorin, with the moniker,
Kenny Blaq, is one of Nigeria's stand-up comedians of no mean repute when it comes to the entertainment
world. He proficiently blends music and drama into SUC while performing. The population of this study is
made up of students of Mass Communication and Theatre Arts of the University of Benin, Benin City; Delta
State University, Abraka, and University of Africa (UAT), Toru-Orua, who have watched the video of Kenny
Blaq`s' Oxymoron of Kennyblaq (The Rush)' Performance of 2018. Hence, the objectives of this study were to
find out respondents'level of satisfaction with Kenny Blaq's musical-drama sub genre of SUC; to ascertain the
therapeutic value of SUC to the respondents, and examine the extent drama and music were infused into the
event. The study is founded on the Reception theory, and it adopts both quantitative and qualitative research
methods. The major findings of the study are that respondents were highly satisfied with Kenny Blaq's
performance, and SUC is considered to have therapeutic value. The study also revealed that Kenny Blaq
excellently imbued music and drama at the Kenny Blaq`s' Oxymoron of Kennyblaq (The Rush)' Performance of
2018. It was concluded that Stand-up comedians' renditions can be satisfactory to their audience when they
are well informed and conversant with the happenings around them having carried out painstaking research
before mounting the podium to perform. Among the recommendations made was that Nigerian citizens should
take advantage of the therapeutic nature of SUC by exposing themselves to more stand-up comedy to ease off
stress, depression and tension.

Stand-up comedy in Nigeria has attracted scholarly attention from various disciplines. As a growing performance space, its appeal to the youth, and is therefore, driven by the ubiquity in social media exploration. Using extracts from six randomly selected volumes of 'Nite of a Thousand Laughs', a Nigerian stand-up comedy show, this paper foregrounds the linguistic and discourse strategies deployed by comedians in their performances for civic protest and willingness to engage the government on serious national issues. The paper concludes that beyond its relaxation function, stand-up comedy is a viable platform for raising socio-political consciousness.
