Naši su stari i mnoge prirodne pojave vezane uz more tumačili na svoj način i po njima predviđali kako će biti vrijeme, pa je i pučka meteorologija ...

godine bio je direktor Splitske gimnazije. Za njegove uprave gradi se groblje na Sustipanu, osniva se Arheološki muzej i gradi se prva muzejska zgrada. Rukopis Rehina izvještaja o prilikama u Splitskom okružju datiran je 31. prosinca 1822. godine, a čuva se u biblioteci Arheološkog muzeja u Splitu (Morović, 1974(Morović, , 1977)). Pisan je na talijanskom jeziku, a Hrvoje Morović ga je transkribirao i objavio u časopisu "Građa i prilozi za povijest Dalmacije", izdanju tadašnjeg Historijskog arhiva u Splitu, prvi dio godine 1974., a drugi u istom časopisu 1977. godine. Dio rukopisa odnosi se na život i običaje zagorskog dijela Dalmacije, pisan u vrijeme kada se počinje sistematičnije proučavati sveukupni narodni život, pa ovaj Rehin izvještaj predstavlja plod kako njegov tako i čitave grupe poglavarovih najbližih suradnika. Reha se javlja početkom 19. stoljeća u vrijeme romantike i interesa za kulturu naroda. Tom razdoblju prethodilo je europsko prosvjetiteljsko 18. stoljeće, za koje je bila jedna od značajki upoznavanje nepoznatih zemalja i krajeva, interes za otkrivanje života i običaja naroda koji su bili prirodniji i primitivniji. U 18. stoljeću, nakon što su Turci potisnuti iz Slavonije i Dalmacije, u doba austrijske i mletačke vladavine nastoje se urediti oslobođena područja. Te prosvjetiteljske ideje se iskazuju u sastavljanju topografsko-statističkih pregleda i opisa, te bilježenje običaja, povijesnih, zemljopisnih i gospodarskih prilika. According to the dialogue between Marco Polo and Kublai Khan, as imagined by Italo Calvino in his Le città invisibili [Invisible Cities], the Venetian traveller would have said “Ogni volta che descrivo una città dico qualcosa di Venezia. [Every time I describe a city, I am saying something about Venice.]”
Indeed, despite the fact that it preserved its singularity of being originally raised on the lagoons, Venice also represented a combination of a lot of cities and places, which makes it difficult, if not impossible, to settle its definite association with the West or the East.
Far from wishing to clarify these possible affiliations, the Serenissima series of Trivent Publishing is organizing the online conference, “Venice between East, West and Itself,” by gathering papers focused on two different major topics:
- Venice and the West,
- Venice and the East,
- A third major topic complements the two: Venice and Itself, as a return of the city to its internal life and affairs.

This dissertation offers a social history of the Jews of Candia, Venetian Crete's capital, by investigating how these Jews related to their colonial sovereign, their Latin and Greek Christian neighbors, and their diverse co-religionists in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. Latin ducal court records, Hebrew communal ordinances, and notarial materials reveal the unique circumstances of Venetian colonial rule on Crete, including the formalized social hierarchy dividing Latin and Greek Christians, ready access to the Venetian justice system, and Venetian accommodation of pre-colonial legal precedents. Together, these elements enabled and encouraged Jews-individuals and community alike-to invest deeply in the institutions of colonial society. Their investment fostered sustained, meaningful interactions with the Latin and Greeks populations. It even shaped the ways in which Jews engaged with one another, particularly as they brought their quotidian and intracommunal disputes before Venice's secular judiciaries. Though contemporary religious authorities frowned upon litigating against co-religionists in secular courts, people from across the spectrum of Candiote Jewry, from community leaders to unhappily married women, sought Venetian judicial intervention at times. Beyond a history of one Jewish community's encounter with the institutions of empire, this study opens a window into a medieval Jewish society unconstrained by lachrymose discourse. The result is an unexpected image of medieval Jews as individuals who made religious and personal choices, in contrast to the still-dominant representation of the tradition-bound, community-minded premodern Jew. Nella seconda metà del Seicento, il "secolo di ferro", Venezia fronteggia un impero ottomano ancora all'apice della sua potenza. Combattuto per terra e per mare, il conflitto assumerà i toni della crociata e l'assedio di Candia, protratto per ventitré anni, sarà paragonato alla guerra di Troia. Protagonista indiscusso dell'armata veneta è Francesco Morosini, ideatore e stratega delle operazioni anfibie e ultimo grande condottiero della Serenissima. Di carattere forte e orgoglioso e dotato di una elevata autocoscienza di sé, tale da sconfinare nella vanità, fu destinatario di onori grandiosi, spesso da lui sollecitati, ma anche di accuse e controversie. Processato per la resa di Candia e poi prosciolto, ebbe la sua rivincita con la conquista del Peloponneso, condotta al prezzo del bombardamento del Partenone. Oltre alla gatta Ninì ebbe un solo amore, Venezia, che anche da doge volle servire in armi, fino all'ultimo giorno. Il saggio intende valutare il ruolo dalla cultura materiale, specificamente nella forma del dono diplomatico, nei conflittuali rapporti intercorsi tra Venezia e l’Impero Ottoma no nel primo Cinquecento. Tale proposito è perseguito attraverso la ricostruzione delle vicende diplomatiche di Pietro Zen, membro illustre di una famiglia gentilizia venezia na e ambasciatore a Costantinopoli tra 1531 e 1533. Ricorrendo al caso emblematico di un alicorno offerto alla corte ottomana durante le celebrazioni per la circoncisione dei figli di Solimano il Magnifico, lo studio analizza come i doni diplomatici fossero più di semplici oggetti materiali.

Established in 1906, the Izmir Italian School of Fine Arts (Scuola Italiana di Belle Arti) was created as part of Italy’s cultural diplomacy initiatives in the Eastern Mediterranean, with the backing of the Italian Consul in Izmir, Odoardo Toscani, and in collaboration with the National Association for the Aid of Italian Catholic Missionaries (Associazione
Nazionale per Soccorrere i Missionari Italiani – ANSMI). The institution was led by the Italian artist Spiridione Pisani, who was born in Corfu. Pisani was among the initial artists to introduce Impressionism to the Corfu school of painting via Italy, serving as both an artist and educator in Corfu, Izmir, and Rome. Under Pisani’s leadership, the
Izmir Italian School of Fine Arts commenced operations on November 5th, 1906, and swiftly attained reputation within the Levantine society and abroad. The school, financed by Italy, was a distinctive instance inside the Ottoman Empire and operated until 1919. This article aims to shed light on the founding process, structure, and activities of
the school through Turkish and Italian archival records. The art and biography of Spiridione Pisani, the institution’s founder and a figure who has been largely overlooked in academic literature, are also examined for the first time using archival sources.

The sixteenth century is known as the golden age of the Ottoman Empire, marking the peak of its international power and cultural development. The imperial capital of Constantinople/Istanbul was at the epicentre of this growth: since the Ottoman conquest of the city in 1453, the sultans of the
ruling dynasty had begun to revive the glorious capital and
restore it to its former splendour. At the same time, relations with the Habsburgs led to the regular presence of Habsburg ambassadors in Istanbul. Despite the decades that had passed since the end of the Byzantine Empire, the material remains of Byzantine Constantinople were still present and visible in the context of Islamic Istanbul.
The paper focuses on travel accounts written by representatives of the Holy Roman Empire who visited Ottoman Istanbul in the sixteenth century and described the Late Roman/Byzantine imperial monuments they experienced in the city, as well as images produced by artists who accompanied the delegations. It examines: a. how the physical space and
topography of the Byzantine imperial capital, its imperial buildings and imagery resonated with visitors and viewers from Vienna, b. how the encounter with the city contributed to the knowledge and reception of Byzantium in the German-speaking world, and c. how this knowledge influenced relations with the Ottoman Empire.

Relación de la capitulación de Candía (Heraclio) el 5 de septiembre de 1669 tras 22 años de asedio. Tres semanas después, el 27 de septiembre, los otomanos entraron en la ciudad. Se edita la relación de los hechos que envió el gran maestre de la Orden de Malta al virrey de Sicilia. En ella se detallan los lances bélicos de los últimos días de la defensa y se recogen los artículos de la capitulación firmada por el capitán general de las fuerzas venecianas Francesco Morosini y el gran visir Köprülüzade Fazil Ahmed.

In this paper we consider the problem of determining the stability properties, and in particular assessing the exponential stability, of a singularly perturbed linear switching system. One of the challenges of this problem arises from the intricate interplay between the small parameter of singular perturbation and the rate of switching, as both tend to zero. Our approach consists in characterizing suitable auxiliary linear systems that provide lower and upper bounds for the asymptotics of the maximal Lyapunov exponent of the linear switching system as the parameter of the singular perturbation tends to zero.

Osmanlı serhaddi üzerine yapılan araştırmalar ziyadesiyle Habsburg ve Safevi sınırına odaklanmaktadır. Ancak Osmanlıların XV. yüzyıldan itibaren Adriyatik kıyılarında Venedik ile uzun bir sınır hattı bulunmaktaydı. Bu bölge 1463-1479 Savaşı’ndan itibaren Osmanlı-Venedik serhaddini oluşturdu. Osmanlı-Venedik serhaddi güneyde Yunanistan’dan kuzeyde Hırvatistan’a kadar uzanan büyük bir coğrafyayı kapsamaktaydı. Bazı bölgelerde kalelerin çok yakın bir şekilde konumlandığı ve yer yer sınırların iç içe geçtiği böylesine büyük bir coğrafyayı, Osmanlı Devleti bir kale ağıyla korumaya çalışmaktaydı. İrili ufaklı birçok kaleden müteşekkil olan bu ağ, önemli miktarda askerin seferber edilmesini ve askerî, idarî, iktisadî konularda ciddi bir organizasyonu gerektirmekteydi. Bu araştırmada, diğer sınır bölgelerine göre arka planda kalmış olan Venedik serhaddindeki Osmanlı kalelerinin teşkilatı, kalede görev yapan personel, kalelerin savaşlardaki rolü ve önemi gibi hususlar ortaya konmaya çalışılmıştır.

Giriş: Venedik’in Türkçe Eğitiminin Temel Özne ve Kavramları
Venedik Cumhuriyeti, ticari faaliyetlerinin düzen ve verimliliğini
muhafaza edebilmek için Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nun dili, dinî, siyasi,
toplumsal ve ekonomik yapısını iyi şekilde kavrayabilecek temsilciler
görevlendirmeye özen göstermiştir. Balyos adı verilen daimî
elçinin veya geçici olarak görevlendirilen fevkalade elçinin bu hususlarda
gösterdiği gayret devasa imparatorluk mekanizması karşısında
daima yetersiz kalmış, her zaman “dragoman” (dragomano)1764 denen
bir tercümanın yardımına ihtiyaç duyulmuştur. Söz konusu tercüman,
dragomanlık mertebesine erişmeden evvel “dil oğlanı” (giovanni dilingua) unvanıyla devlet tarafından tercüman çırağı olarak görevlendirilmekte
ve bir dil eğitmeni ve bir dragomanın gözetim ve himayesinde
başta Türkçe, daha sonra Arapça ve Farsça gibi dillerde eğitim
görmüştür. Bunlara zamanla Rumca ve Slavca da eklenmiştir. Dragomanların
en tecrübeli olanı ve Balyos’un tercüme konusundaki başyardımcısı
“Baş Dragoman” (Dragomano Grande) unvanını almakta ve
diğer tercümanların lideri, baş eğitmeni ve denetmeni olarak hürmet
görmektedir. Bunun dışında Balyos’a seyahatlerinde, İstanbul’a gidiş
ve oradan dönüşünde tercümanlık hizmeti sunan kısa süreli görevliye
“Yol Dragomanı” (Dragomano di Strada/Viaggio) adı verilmektedir.
Onun dışında Küçük Dragoman denen bir dragoman daha vardır.
Vaktinin çoğunu limanda geçiren bu dragoman, Venedik tüccarları ve
muhasibine (raggionato) tercümanlık yapmakta, buna ek olarak resmî
ve adlî makamlarla ilgili ticari meselelerin kaydını tutmaktadır. 16. ve
17. yüzyıllardaki tercüman türleri bu şekilde sınırlıyken, 18. yüzyılda
altı farklı türde dragomandan söz edilmektedir. Yol dragomanına ek
olarak, Bâbıâli, gümrük, tersane, saray ve mahkemenin her biri için
farklı görev ve unvanlı tercümanlar bulunmaktadır.1765 Tercümanların
eğitim merkezi 1551 senesinde faaliyete başlayan ve İstanbul’daki Balyos
konutundaki bir odada hizmet gören “Türk Dili Okulu” (La Scuola
Turca) adlı kurumdur. Bu okulun kurumsal işleyişi, okula kayıtlı tercüman
çıraklarının eğitim koşulları ve onların ustaları olan dragomanların
çalışma nitelik ve şartlarını kapsayan kanuni düzenlemeler, Venedik’te,
Gran Consiglio, Collegio ve Senato denen yürütme ve yasama
organlarının idaresi ve hukuk, ticaret ve eğitimle ilgili diğer yardımcı
kurumların danışmanlığı altında hazırlanmakta, tartışmaya sunulmakta
ve oylanıp yasalaşmaktadır. 18. yüzyılda Venedik’te yeni bir Türkçe
Okulu’nun açılmasıyla ilgili tartışmalar da aynı sürece dâhil edilmiştir.

18. yüzyılda İngiltere'nin Haleb-Londra hattında gerçekleştirilen Doğu Akdeniz ticareti İskenderun'daki, İngiliz liman temsilcisi tarafından organize edilmiştir. Liman temsilcisi, limandaki İngiliz gemilerinin yükleme ve boşaltma işleri, İskenderun-Haleb arasında karşılıklı mal transferi ve limandaki altı İngiliz deposunun idaresi başta olmak üzere ticari organizasyonun tüm aşamalarından sorumlu idi. Temsilci ayrıca, gemiye yüklenen malların gemi kaptanına teslimini belgelendiren konşimentoları (bill of lading) düzenleyerek bu belgeleri ve gemi manifestolarının birer kopyasını da Haleb konsolosluğu ile Londra'ya göndermekle yükümlüydü. Bu makalede; 1704-1706 yılları arasındaki İskenderun limanından mal yükleyerek Londra'ya beş sefer gerçekleştiren dört İngiliz gemisi için düzenlenen ve muhtemelen İngiltere'nin İskenderun liman temsilcisi Walter More tarafından muhafaza edilmiş konşimento kayıtları esas alınarak, yaklaşık iki yıllık bir dönem için İskenderun limanından Londra'ya yapılan İngiliz ithalatı üzerine bir inceleme yapılmıştır. İngiliz Milli Arşivi'nde (The National Archives), SP (State Papers) kolleksiyonunda 110/171 numaralı defterde topluca ciltlenmiş olarak muhafaza edilen 269 adet konşimento bu çalışmanın ana kaynağını teşkil etmektedir. Konşimentoların her biri malı gönderen tüccar adına ayrı ayrı düzenlenmiştir. Bu kayıtlardan 1704-1706 yılları arasında İngiliz tüccarlar tarafından İskenderun limanından Londra'ya ithal edilen emtia türü ve toplam emtia miktarı tespit edilmiştir.

Početkom 15. stoljeća Dalmacija potpada pod mletačku vlast čiju supremaciju postupno prihvaćaju svi dalmatinski gradovi. Naizgled mirnu situaciju kvare provale osmanske vojske čiji napadi krajem stoljeća postaju sve učestaliji. Mletačka Republika postepeno kreće u organiziranu obranu svojih  posjeda tako da postojeću infrastrukturu vješto uklapa u svoj sustav obrane te financiraju gradnju vlastitih utvrda. Osim nekoliko kaštela koji su izgrađeni u šibenskoj okolici, pribjegavaju gradnji jednostavnijih fortifikacija pregrađivajući poluotoke bedemom. Takvi refugiji su postojali na poluotoku Oštrici kod Grebaštice, sv. Kati kod Rasline, te u današnjem Primoštenu, Pirovcu i Mandalini.

Among historical sources which allow a proposed reconstruction of the Venetian-Ottoman border demarcation on the northeast coastal and hinterland area of the Adriatic in the early modern period, old maps are especially prominent. As graphic depictions of spatial relations, they are a first-class historical source of geographical data. Such is the manuscript map by an unknown author which depicts the Venetia-Ottoman border demarcation in part of northern and central Dalmatia after the War of Cyprus. The map is housed in the Miscellanea-Materie miste e notabili fund at the State Archives in Venice and has not yet been the subject of scientific and expert research. To a lesser extent, because of its natural-geographic contents, and to a greater extent because of its depiction of settlements, fortifications, roads and especially borders, it is an important testimony to knowledge at the time of the topography of the coastal and hinterland parts of the Šibenik, Trogir and Split communes, as strategic parts of the Venetian Stato da Mar threatened by Ottoman military and looting forays and territorial incursions.

Abstract: Before the public intervention to light urban spaces at night, especially following the introduction of electric lighting, night in the Early Modern period in Europe was perceived and experienced as a suspended time, often marked by exception and inversion of norms. While much military history research focused on modern night warfare — particularly in the context of post-industrial and technological developments — earlier centuries are typically relegated to secondary operations or ruses de guerre, treated as minor aspects of warfare. This article reconsiders such assumptions by examining what night meant for soldiers in the 16th and 17th centuries. Drawing on treatises and instructions, iconography, and
correspondence — particularly from northwestern Italy — it explores how night was perceived and used both in theory and practice. Through an analysis of a vast corpus of military treatises and a study of operations from the final phase of the War of Monferrato, it argues that night was not a marginal aspect of war, but a fundamental dimension of early modern military practice and soldiers’ lived experience.

Among the many canons written by the Metropolitan of  Euchaita, St. John, called Mavropous (11th century), are two supplicatory Canons to the Most Holy Theotokos, “in anticipation of war”. The first one, although more widely known from the editions of the Euchologion, remains unpublished in its original form. In the Euchologion, the above Canon is modified, so as to be more appropriate to the more recent historical circumstances, those after the fall of Constantinople. In this article, the canon in question is published in transcription from the Vienna manuscript codex ÖNB Theol. gr. 78, of the 14th century.

The Bessarion Research is a digital humanities project dedicated to Cardinal Bessarion (ca. 1402–1472), a key figure bridging the Byzantine and Latin worlds during the Italian Renaissance. The project aims to explore and contextualize his political, religious, and cultural contributions through a comprehensive digital platform. At its core is the Acta Bessarionea, a digital archive containing several hundred historical documents—letters, decrees, bulls, and other sources—gathered from Italian and European archives. Each document will be published with scholarly commentary and detailed metadata. The website will also feature thematic sections (e.g., timelines, networks, places) that are interlinked and grounded in the primary sources, offering an integrated and dynamic view of Bessarion’s historical environment. The Bessarion Research aspires to become the most complete resource on Bessarion, combining critical historical analysis with digital tools to illuminate the full scope of his political, intellectual, and spiritual legacy.

Tratta il tema della storiografia pubblica e delle modalità di accesso alla carica di storiografo ufficiale della Repubblica di Venezia, attraverso i casi di Marin Sanudo e Francesco Sansovino, che non riuscirono a giungervi, per questioni di carattere politico, stilistico e tematico.
In apertura, un capitolo dedicato ai rapporti orizzontali tra intellettuali, per una maggiore comprensione dei contesti culturali, in cui i due storiografi si mossero.

From the archaeological excavations carried out in 2009 in Lissus (today Lezha) in the premises of an early Christian baptistery, have emerged some archaeological materials and two medieval coins, the latter being studied and published here for the first time (Fig. ). Fig.1. Lissus -2009, the situation of excavations with medieval finds in the early Paleo-Christian baptistery I. The first coin to present is a silver grosso of George II Balsha, who ruled in 1385-1405. The coin has a diameter of 20 mm and weights of 1,15 g (Fig. 2).

The area centered on the ancient settlement of Butrint (present-day southern Albania) represents a quintessential example of waterscape. Over the centuries, the human presence had to deal with a highly dynamic environment, dominated by water: the marine inlet of the Bronze Age gradually turned into a coastal lagoon in Greek and Roman times, while in the late antique and Medieval period it became a thriving marshland, exploited until the 18th century; then it was subjected to land reclamation functional to contemporary agricultural activities. These shifts, highlighted by recent paleo-environmental studies, deeply influenced the settlement patterns and even the shape of the ancient city, where subsidence phenomena and rising water still represent a challenge for the conservation of its remains. The latest research carried out by the Butrint Project (University of Bologna and Archaeological Institute of Tirana) has investigated transformation processes in a diachronic perspective and through a multidisciplinary approach. Thanks to the insight offered by underwater surveys and topographic studies, new considerations on the location of the ancient port and on the Roman bridge of the city became possible

Mustafa Necati Sepetçioğlu has written many works in various literary genres such as stories, novels and theatre, and in most of these works, he has achieved fame with his historical novels by bringing the theme of history to the fore. The theatre, which he considered as a school, played an important role in giving cultural identity, national consciousness and historical awareness to the audience as the main manifestation of his intellectual struggle. In this context, Sepetçioğlu, who attracted attention with his play titled Her Bizansa Bir Fatih published in three acts in 1972, comparatively classified the process of Istanbul before the conquest at the level of individuals, people and states, and concretized the reasons that led the Ottoman Empire to be victorious and the Byzantine Empire to defeat. At this stage, he characterizes Sultan Mehmet, the dominant figure throughout the play, as an ideal leader with extremely positive qualities, and the Ottoman people as a society that supports its state by standing by its side under all circumstances, while the Byzantine Emperor and his people, in contrast to the Sultan, he constructs the Byzantine Emperor and his people as a hobbled leader and society that gathers all negative qualities together and thinks only of itself. Therefore, this organisation, which is separated with sharp lines through the symbols of 'crescent' and 'cross', enabled Sepetçioğlu to clearly reveal the social message he wanted to give.

Trablusgarp Savaşı dünya havacılık tarihinde uçakların ilk kez bir savaş aracı olarak kullanılması nedeniyle özel bir öneme sahiptir. Osmanlı Devleti’nin bu savaş sırasında Trablusgarp’ta uçak kullanma niyetinde olduğu şüphe götürmez bir gerçektir.
Bugüne kadar yapılan araştırmalarda Osmanlı Devleti’nin Trablusgarp’a uçak gönderme çabaları tam olarak ortaya koyulabilmiş değildir. Birçok araştırmada çeşitli uçak gönderme girişimlerinin başlangıcı veya sonucu birbirine karıştırılarak
açıklanmaya çalışılmış, bu durum gerçeklerin ortaya çıkarılması çabalarını içinden çıkılmaz bir hale getirmiştir.
Osmanlı Devleti tarafından temelde üç büyük teşebbüs ile Trablusgarp’a uçak gönderme girişiminde bulunulduğu tespit edildi. Bunlardan birisinden sözleşme imzalandıktan sonra, yüklenicinin yükümlülüklerini yerine getiremeyeceği düşüncesi
ile vazgeçildi. Diğerinde uçakların Cezayir’e kadar gönderilmesi başarıldıysa
da Trablusgarp’a geçirilemedi. Son ve makalenin konusu olan girişim ise bir dolandırıcılık girişimi olarak kaldı.
Bu makalede Türk-İtalyan Savaşı olarak da bilinen Trablusgarp Savaşı sırasında bir Alman tarafından savaş bölgesine uçak gönderilmesi vaadi ile Osmanlı Devleti’nin
nasıl dolandırılmaya çalışıldığı, Türk ve yabancı arşiv belgeleri, yazılı kaynaklar, resmi ve özel açık erişim kaynakları kullanılarak ve adı geçen herkes araştırılarak tüm gerçekliği ile ortaya çıkarılmaya çalışıldı.

Orta Çağ Türk devletlerinde ordunun çok büyük kısmı süvari birliklerinden oluştuğu için süvarilerin eğitimi büyük önem arz etmekteydi. Süvarilerin eğitimlerinin başında, at bakımıyla ilgili eğitimler gelmekteydi. Zira atına bakamayan bir süvari işlevsiz hâle gelirdi. Bir süvari atının koşum takımları zarar gördüğünde onarabilmeli, eyerini ve dizginini çözüp yeniden takabilmeliydi. Atların damarlarını açmayı, cerahatini akıtmayı, göz ve burnundan nâhone almayı, burun halkası takmayı, hacamat yapmayı, atları dağlamayı ve iğdiş etmeyi bilmeliydi. Orta Çağ Türk ordularında süvariler, at üzerinde çeşitli silahları en iyi şekilde kullanmayı öğrenmeliydiler. Bu amaçla talimler yapılmakta ve çeşitli oyunlar oynanmaktaydı. Süvariler, nişan tahtaları, avlar ve kabak oyunu ile okçuluk kabiliyetlerini geliştirmekteydiler. Büyük bir süratle giderken "kement" atarak düşmanın atını yere yıkmayı ve süvarisini üzerinden kapıp almayı öğrenmekteydi. Süvariler, bir filin sırtından omurlarını midesine dökebilecek kadar kuvvetlenmek için gürz ile sıkı talimler yapmaktaydılar. Mızrağı ıskalamadan kullanabilmek için, hedef tahtaları üzerinde sıkı talimler yapmakta ve halka kapma oyunu ve süvari oyunu oynamaktaydılar. Ayrıca süvariler, bütün silahlarından âciz kalırsa, atı yaralanır veya kullanılamaz hâle gelirse, düşmanını bertaraf edebilmek için güreşmeyi de öğrenmeliydiler. Yine süvariler, at üzerinde kılıç ve diğer silahları en iyi şekilde kullanabilmek için çevgȃn ve halka kapma gibi oyunlar oynamaktaydılar. Belli zamanlarda düzenlenen sürek avları ve kabak oyunları sayesinde, Orta Çağ Türk ordularında süvariler, Turan savaş taktiğini başarıyla uygulamayı öğrenmekteydiler. Bu çalışmada Orta Çağ Türk ordularında süvarilerin"okçuluk eğitimi", "kılıç eğitimi", "mızrak eğitimi", "gürz eğitimi", "kement eğitimi", "güreş eğitimi" ve bu eğitimleri destekleyici türde yapılan "sürek avı", "çevgȃn oyunu" ve "kabak oyunu" gibi faaliyetler, ana kaynaklara ve modern araştırmalara dayanılarak incelenecektir.

This article examines the roles of exploratores, spie and cursores-covert scouts, spies and couriers-documented in the sources of the late medieval Dalmatian towns. Although medieval espionage remains still under-researched, recent scholarship allows for situating Dalmatian cases within a broader medieval espionage framework, particularly in relation to Italian city-states' practices. Using mostly case studies from the towns of Trogir, Split, Šibenik and Dubrovnik, the article demonstrates how local and regional power-holders deployed spies to gather critical information during military or factional conflicts in Croatia and Dalmatia and to track external threats, such as advancing Ottoman armies in the 15th century. Unlike some Italian cities, in which we can trace institutionalized espionage, Dalmatian towns relied mostly on ad hoc measures and temporary councils for security, reflecting their own sociopolitical landscape and priorities.

Archaeological research on late antique Butrint is increasingly demonstrating that urban development peaked in the late 5th-6th century AD, when the settlement experienced a final phase of investment particularly focused on religious works and defence, before it soon after entered a period of decline detected throughout the region from the late 6th-early 7th century AD. This paper discusses this final phase of urban development in late antique Butrint through the lens of the most distinct markers of urban space, the fortification walls. Extensive surveys have revealed the scale of remodelling the town's topography was subjected to due to this fortification programme, which enclosed the core settlement on peninsula and likely was equipped with a proteichisma. Although smaller in size than in the preceding Roman era, the emphasis placed on the landward fortifications as suggested by the quality of construction and the use of a specific feature of military architecture such as a proteichisma highlights the special status of Butrint as a liminal urban centre in the late antique period.

Note in margine alla recente edizione di un saggio militare di Algarotti di deniSe aricò aBStract. Starting from the examination of a recent edition of the essay Sopra la giornata di Zama by Francesco Algarotti, unconvincing due to the lack of commentary notes and a more complete introduction, this contribution places the 1749 text in the middle of a network of the author's reflections on the history of ideas regarding ancient and modern military thought. The famous battle of 202 BC is not only examined by Algarotti in light of the information derived from the Greek Polybius on the strategy of Scipio and Hannibal, but dialogues with the erroneous beliefs of Jean-Charles de Folard, who found the "column system" applied to it. This contribution also becomes the pretext for outlining the characteristics of modern military commentary, where philology and erudition repudiate the temptations of fictionalized history in the name of a scientific and rational approach advocated by Ludovico Antonio Muratori, Jean Le Clerc and André Dacier.

Çağının meşhur sipahi beğlerinden olan Mantova Markisi Françesko Gonzaga II'mn 1495 tarihinde Taro Irmağı kenarında genç Fransız kralı Charles VIII. 'ı yenmesi bütün İtalya'da büyük bir millî heyecan yarattı ve Fransızların İtalya'yı istilâlarına son verdi. Fransızların açık beyanları neticesinde çağdaşlarının edindikleri bilgi, Charles Vlll'ın üze rinde miras hakkı iddia ettiği Napoli Krallığı'nı almakla yetinmiyerek, Fransız bayrağı altında bir dünya hâkimiyeti kurmak arzusunda olduğu yolundaydı. Fransa kralı, Sicilya -Napoli Kralhğı'nın fethinden sonra İtalya Muharebeleri'ne Türkler aleyhinde bir haçlı seferi ile devam etmek ve klâsik c Haçlı Seferleri» sırasında islâm ülkelerinde kurulmuş bulunan hıristiyan prensliklerine yeniden halef olmak arzusundaydı. Fakat sonunda Sultan Bâyezîd II' in rakibi, rehin olarak Papa Aleksander Vl'ın elinde bulunmuş olan Sultan Cem'in, Fransa Kralı Charles VIII' ın yanında ölmesinin, onun bu fantezi dolu plândan vazgeçmesine sebep olduğu resmen ilân olundu. Hakikatte ise bu ölüm Fransızların geri çekilmelerinin tek sebebi değildi. İtalyan mukavemet hareketlerinin ilk belirtileri ve bilhassa 1495 yılında kurulan Mukaddes Liga, Fransızların harp mühimmatı ve erzak yollarının kesilmesi endişesiyle şimale çekilmelerine sebep oldu. Fransa kralının o sırada Novara kalesini zaptetmiş olan yeğeni Orlean Prensi'nin ordusu ile birleşmesine mâni olmak için, «Mukaddes Liga»'mn kumandanı Françesko Gonzaga II, Taro İrmağı kenarındaki Fornovo şehri civarında kendisine hücum etti. Fransızlar burada mutlak bir Prof. Dr. H. J. Kissling'in, «-Sultan. Bâgezid's II. Bsziehungen zu Markgraf Francesco II. von Gonzaga», (Münchener Universitatssehriften. Reihe der Pbilosophiachen Fakultât, Bd. I. München 1965) ismindeki Almanca eserinden, kendioi tarafından İtalyaneaya çevrilmiş bulunan bu etüd « Francesco II Gonzaga ed il Sultano Bâgezîd II» adı ile «Arehivio Storieo Italiano» mecmuasının 1-1967 sayısında (s. 34-68) neşroluamuştur. Mecmuanın ve Floransa'daki Leo S. Olsehki-Editore basımevinin nâzik müsaadesi ile Türkçeye de çevrilmesi imkânı hâsıl olduğundan makale yine bizzat profesör tarafın dan mecmuamız için dilimize tercüme edilmiştir.

P.Mil. I 2. 17 has been interpreted as a mythical or historical text and even considered as a fragment of Timaeus of Tauromenion. It was labeled by López Martinez, Fragmentos papiráceos de novela griega, 1998 -number 39 of her edition -as valde incertum -. The text is interesting both from a linguistic point of view and for raising a question concerning the literary genre to whom it pertains. The purpose of this paper is to review the text and to deep in the study of its literary genre.

Μετά την οριστική αποτυχία της μικρασιατικής εκστρατείας, η επανάσταση του 1922 οδήγησε τη χώρα σε εκλογές (Δεκέμβριος 1923) από τις οποίες προέκυψε η Δ' Εθνοσυνέλευση, η οποία με ψήφισμά της στις 25.3.1924 κήρυξε έκπτωτη τη δυναστεία των Γλυξβούργων εγκαθίδρυσε ο πολίτευμα της αβασίλευτης δημοκρατίας. Ακολούθως, διενεργήθηκε δημοψήφισμα με το οποίο ο λαός επικύρωσε την πολιτειακή μεταβολή. Το αβασίλευτο πολίτευμα, η λεγόμενη "Β' Ελληνική Δημοκρατία, διάρκεσε μέχρι  τον Νοέμβριο 1935.

With this gathering, we are recalling the moment when Count Bernardin Taiapiera of Šibenik, the Venetian diplomat Pietro Zeno, and the Ottoman emin Džafer Çelebi signed the agreement to establish gabela and salt warehouses in Mandalina near Šibenik. It was on April 10, 1525.
The anniversary-inspired occasion for this gathering was initially reinforced by the assumption that the aforementioned agreement significantly shaped or redirected Venetian-Ottoman relations in the broader Šibenik area (which had been part of Venetian Dalmatia since 1412) and Skradin (which became part of the Ottoman frontier province in 1522). Until then, the direct encounters and indirect contacts between the people of Šibenik and the Ottomans had been marked by the looming Ottoman military threat, which first cast its shadow over Šibenik in 1415. A chronic atmosphere of fear took hold following the Ottoman incursion of 1468, while lasting fractures in the demographic and economic structure of the Šibenik commune emerged with the destruction and abandonment of villages on the fringes of the Šibenik district during the Venetian-Ottoman War of 1499–1502. When Vlach herders settled the depopulated estates in the 1520s, Šibenik's salt was recognized as a potential catalyst for establishing trade relations between Ottoman and Venetian subjects.
The 1525 agreement granted the Šibenik commune an economic boost, at least until the War of Cyprus. For us, however, its contents have provided scholarly momentum—or, in other words, a foundation for examining various aspects of Venetian-Ottoman relations in the Šibenik-Skradin borderlands from the 15th to the 18th century. The outlines and titles of the presentations, along with the expertise of their authors, serve as a guarantee for filling many historiographical gaps, opening new research perspectives, and, of this we are certain, fostering a fruitful discussion.

Knjižica sažetaka znanstvenoga skupa uz 500. obljetnicu mletačko-osmanskog sporazuma od 10. 4. 1525., kada su šibenski knez Bernardin Taiapiera, mletački diplomat Pietro Zeno i osmanski emin Džafer Čelebi potpisali ugovor o ustanovljenju gabele i skladišta soli u Mandalini pokraj Šibenika. Elinizdeki çalışma bir veri tabanında kullanılabilecek şekilde birkaç kategoriye göre tasnif edildi. Bu manada bir künyenin öncelikle dönemi esas alınarak “Osmanlı Öncesi”, “Yeniçağ”, “Yakınçağ-Cumhuriyet” ve “Genel Çalışma” şeklinde kategorize edildi. Bir dönemin sınırlarını aşan ve “Genel Çalışma” kategorisine de girmeyen veriler için “Osmanlı Öncesi-Yeniçağ” ve “Yeniçağ-Yakınçağ” diye iki ara kategori oluşturuldu. Böylece iki dönemi de ilgilendiren bir çalışmanın alfabetik olarak iki tasnifte de yer alması sağlandı. Karışıklığa mahal vermemek için Osmanlı’nın kuruluş tarihinden sonraki olayları ele alan çalışmalar “Yeniçağ” kategorisinde yer aldı. Bibliyografya hazırlanırken esas alınan diğer sınıflandırma araçları ise bir çalışmanın konusu ve türü oldu. Bu manada künyeler konusuna göre “Kara”, “Deniz”, “Hava” ve “Genel” şeklinde tasnif edilirken; türüne göre de “Kitap”, “Makale” ve “Tez” şeklinde sınıflandırıldı. Son olarak ise kelime bazlı aramalarda araştırmacıların işini kolaylaştırmak için her bir künyeyle ilgili “Anahtar Kelimeler” eklendi. Türk Askerî Tarihi Bibliyografyası kitabı Nisan 2021'de araştırmacıların hizmetine sunulduğunda 11398 çalışmanın künyesinden oluşmaktaydı. Gözden kaçanlar ve yeni yayınlarla birlikte bu sayı 15756'ya ulaştı. Bu künyelerin çoğu genellikle Türkçe çalışmalar olmakla birlikte az sayıda Türk tarihiyle doğrudan ilgili olan yabancı dildeki çalışmaların künyeleri de bulunmaktadır. Künyelerin dönemlere göre göre dağılımına bakıldığında Osmanlı Öncesi ile ilgili 1613; Yeniçağ ile ilgili 2975; Yakınçağ-Cumhuriyet ile ilgili 10451 künye bulunmaktadır. Künyelerden bazıları iki dönemi kapsadığı için 2 kategoride de yer almıştır. Bunların dışında Türk askerî tarihi ile ilgili 767 adet Genel Çalışma bulunmaktadır. İlerleyen zamanlarda alt yapısı oluşturulması planlanan bir veri tabanının araştırmacılara kolaylık sağlayacağına inanmaktayız. Zira araştırmacı çalışmak istediği bir konuyla ilgili literatüre bir tuşla saniyeler içerisinde ulaşabilecek veya askerî tarih ile ilgili hangi konuların ne kadar çalışıldığı, nerelerde eksiklikler olduğunu görebilecektir. Asırlardır dünyanın dört bir yanında at koşturup memleketler fetheden ve vatan mücadelesi veren bir milletin askerî tarihiyle ilgili mütekâmil bir bibliyografya çalışması ortaya koymak neredeyse imkânsızdır. Buna mukabil yaklaşık 3 yıldan beri titizlikle yürütülen böyle bir çalışmayı araştırmacılardan esirgemenin de doğru olmadığı kanaatindeyiz. Bu bakımdan çalışmanın her yıl Aralık ayı sonunda güncellenmesi hedeflenmektedir. Hiç şüphesiz eksiklikler olacaktır. Giriş ve üç bölümden müteşekkil bu çalışmada Osmanlı askerî teşkilatı içerisinde merkezî ordunun önemli bir parçası olan kapıkulu süvarilerinin 16. ve 17. yüzyıllardaki teşkilatı incelenmiştir. Altı farklı zümreden (sipâhî, silahdâr, ulûfeciyân-ı yemîn, ulûfeciyân-ı yesâr, gurebâ-i yemîn ve gurebâ-i yesâr) oluşan kapıkulu süvarileri bir bütün olarak ele alınmıştır. Giriş kısmında öncelikle çalışmamızın konusu, ilgili literatür ve kullanılan kaynak türleri ele alınmıştır. İkinci olarak kısaca eyalet ordusu ve merkez ordusu hakkında bilgi verilmiştir. Son olarak ise 16. yüzyıl ortalarından itibaren yaşanan ve çağdaş kaynaklarda “bozulma” olarak tebarüz ettirilen bir takım askerî değişimin mahiyeti izah edilmeye çalışılmıştır. Birinci bölümde kapıkulu süvari teşkilatının teşekkülü ve kapıkulu süvari zümrelerinin nefer kaynakları izah edilmiştir. Yine nefer kaynaklarının çeşitlenmesi ve bu durumun teşkilatı nasıl dönüştürmüş olabileceği tartışılmıştır. İkinci bölümde altı zümrenin farklı tarihlerde hangi gerekçelerle kaç bölüğe taksim edildiği; muhtelif tarihlerdeki mevcutları; mevâcib ödemeleriyle ilgili işlemler ve yaşanan gelişmeler; zâbitler ve bunların kimler arasından nasıl seçildikleri; kapıkulu süvarilerinin terfileri; işledikleri suçlar, aldıkları cezalar ve son olarak mütekaid olma şartları ve bürokratik işlemleri ele alınmıştır. Çalışmamızın son bölümünde kapıkulu süvarilerinin teçhizatı ve askerî görevleri; ne tür malî işlerde istihdam edildikleri ve bu istihdam ayrıcalığının neden kaldırıldığı izah edilmiştir.

This study, which consists of an introduction and three chapters, examines the organization of the kapıkulu cavalries in the 16th and 17th centuries. The kapıkulu cavalries was an important unit of the Hassa Army of the Ottoman military organization. It consisted of six different groups (altı bölük); sipâhî, silahdâr, ulûfeciyân-ı yemîn, ulûfeciyân-ı yesâr, gurebâ-i yemîn and gurebâ-i yesâr, and all of these groups were analyzed together. Firstly, brief information about the Provincial Army and Hassa Army was given in the introduction chapter. Secondly, the subject of the study, the literature related to this subject, and the types of sources used in the thesis were discussed. Lastly, the nature of some military changes from the mid-16th century onwards, which was also described as “deterioration” in contemporary sources, is tried to be explained. In the first chapter, the formation of the kapıkulu cavalry organization and manpower resources are explained. Also, the diversification of manpower resources of the organization and how this situation transformed the organization is discussed. In the second chapter, how many partitions the altı bölük were divided into; what was the main ground for this separation; the numbers at different dates; the process of the mevâcib payments; officers and way of their selection; promotions of the kapıkulu cavalries; crimes and punishments; and the bureaucratic procedures for retirement were investigated. In the last chapter, the equipment and military mission of the kapıkulu cavalries; what kind of financial tasks they were employed in and why this privilege was deprived from are explained.
