Spatial planning for informal economic enterprises globally and cities of the developing world such Harare in particular is made difficult by the lack of appropriate data. In most cases, informal economic enterprises are discussed descriptively and statistically, leaving out their spatial characteristics. This makes the orderly planning for the enterprises very difficult if not impossible, especially given that the informal economy dominates the economies of most developing countries. This article presents geographic information data that was collected by means of mobile geographic positioning systems over time. In the absence of any other spatial datasets in the City of Harare, this unique data is handy in revealing spatial locational trends of informal economic enterprises and the preferred locational behaviour of informal economic entrepreneurs in the city.

Visually impaired people face many problems in their day to day lives. Among them, outdoor navigation is
one of the major concerns. The existing solutions based on Wireless Sensor Networks(WSN) and Global
Positioning System (GPS) track ZigBee units or RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags fixed on the
navigation system. The issues pertaining to these solutions are as follows: (1) It is suitable only when the
visually impaired person is commuting in a familiar environment; (2) The device provides only a one way
communication; (3) Most of these instruments are heavy and sometimes costly. Preferable solution would
be to make a system which is easy to carry and cheap

The viruses that cause malaria, Dengue hemorrhagic fever, and Rift Valley fever are primarily spread by mosquitoes. Globally, mosquito-borne diseases pose a serious threat to public health, particularly in crowded cities. The goal of the current study was to update knowledge about the mosquito (Diptera: Culicidae) fauna of Punjab region, Pakistan's District Faisalabad, and forecast the distribution of the larvae of the most important mosquito vectors in this area. Environmental factors such as water sources, land use, temperature, and humidity were recorded at each collection location. A perspective for the geographic distribution of dengue vectors in the metropolitan areas of Faisalabad was created using GIS-based spatial analytic tools after the data was gathered. The number of mosquito larvae was assessed in connection with the physiochemical characteristics (pH & TDS) of breeding grounds. Mosquito larvae were collected from January 2024 until December 2024. Aedes aegypti was the most important vector discovered in Faisalabad. To predict the species distribution of Aedes aegypti in the district of Faisalabad, 19 bioclimatic variables were combined with the data from the collection. More than 100 locations yielded more than 1800 mosquito larvae. The northeastern region of the Faisalabad district was identified as having the best suited lands. The region that was least conducive to the presence of Aedes aegypti was the southwest. Precipitation factor (bio8) contributed the most in the presence of this vector, accounting for over 40%, followed by bio19, which contributed 20%.

The objective of this study was to assess the cultural heritage value of 85 forest memorial landscapes of the Pomeranian Crime of 1939. To achieve this, we aimed to (1) locate the execution sites and graves of the victims of this crime in the forest areas managed by the Pomeranian and Kuyavian-Pomeranian Regional Directorates of the State Forest Administration (pl. Lasy Państwowe) in northern Poland and (2) determine the degree of cultural heritage protection in these areas and the impact of forest management on the value of this heritage. Our study is based on the cartographic resources of the Bureau of Forest Management and Geodesy and the National Heritage Institute (Poland). The value of cultural heritage was determined using a cultural heritage valuation form. Our results show that all inventoried sites have a unique historical, social and symbolic value. About 60% of the sites were not included in the register of cemeteries and war graves and are not protected by any of the legal forms of cultural heritage protection. The inclusion of a site in a form of cultural heritage protection proved to be insignificant for the preservation of the cultural heritage of the site. The possibility of preserving this value in forest landscapes exists in both protective and special forests as well as in commercial forests, regardless of the general management practise in a given forest area, although studies have shown that non-standard management activities contribute to their aesthetic value. The most important factor in protecting the cultural heritage of forest memorial areas has proven to be the involvement of various state and local government institutions as well as schools, voluntary organisations and museums-both in the process of commemorating the Pomeranian Crime of 1939 and its victims and in activities aimed at preserving the material values of the associated sites.

De plus en plus d'objets mobiles sont équipés de capteurs qui facilitent la surveillance de leur évolution et permettent la réception, le stockage et la visualisation en temps réel de leur position. Actuellement, la fouille de données dans des historiques de déplacements volumineux offre des perspectives intéressantes dans le domaine de l'étude du comportement de ces objets. À partir de résultats d'analyses statistiques sur des ensembles de trajectoires, des patrons spatio-temporels (trajectoires médianes, couloirs spatiotemporels, routes types) ont été définis. En s'appuyant sur ces patrons, il est possible de détecter en temps réel des situations inhabituelles et d'en qualifier le comportement. Dans cet article, cette méthode est appliquée aux déplacements de navires dans un espace maritime ouvert afin de détecter des comportements inhabituels (retard, hors route, etc.).

Since 2021, an archaeological survey has been underway in the plain linking Amarynthos and Eretria (Euboea, Greece), a region continuously occupied but now threatened by wildfires, looting, and especially urbanization. The aim is to produce a comprehensive archaeological map to trace the evolution of human occupation. In this context, the mobile application ArcGIS Survey123 has proven to be a key tool, facilitating structured, collaborative data collection, directly recorded in the field by the survey teams.

International commercial archaeology presents a complex landscape for digital field recording, due to a large number and variety of contexts, practices, teams and contractors requirements. It appears almost impossible to set up a single, standardized protocol for data collection in that context. However, because data and reports often need to be produced within short deadlines, with team members dispersed all over the world, the interest of digital field data collection is widely recognized, as it fastens and optimizes work from the field.

Part of the Eveha Group, Eveha International, a company providing heritage and archaeological management services in 32 countries so far, has conducted projects from
extensive 40 square kilometers surveys to smaller-scale rescue excavations during which it faced challenges related to the adaptability of digital field collection practices. The company addresses these challenges through a multifaceted approach that balances standardization with adaptability. This poster explores Eveha International's practices, highlighting the importance of adaptability and diverse technology adoption in ensuring efficient and adaptable data collection across a range of contexts and project requirements.

Eveha International recognizes the importance of attribute data standardization for research and reuse purposes.  As much as possible, Eveha International utilizes standardized glossaries and data structures to enhance consistency across projects. Yet, flexibility remains crucial to adapt to diverse contexts, teams and contractors. For attribute data collection, Eveha International utilizes mobile Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with standardized and customizable forms to capture qualitative information, while surveying equipment (GNSS and/or Total Stations) ensures accurate measurements. Mobile applications like QField (opengis.ch) and ArcGIS Survey123 (ESRI) facilitate direct integration of GPS/GNSS and archaeological data. Originally, the Eveha Group policy was to use open source software. Thus, QGIS, and its mobile application QField, have first been favored by Eveha International for its field projects. However, the widespread adoption of ESRI softwares in the archaeological community led the company to also use ArcGIS Survey123 to produce data that collaborating teams and contractors could easily work with. This flexible approach enables leveraging the most appropriate technology for each project. Data acquired onsite is integrated into a central multi-relational online database, such as PostgreSQL/PostGIS or ArcGIS online, to ensure data integrity and real-time data synchronization among team members. Depending on project requirements, photogrammetric surveys and UAV flights capture additional spatial information, generating 3D models and orthomosaics, later integrated to GIS projects. While digital tools offer many advantages, some archaeological drawings are still done manually by Eveha International team members. A balance between digital and manual drawing techniques is adopted in the field, a decision made after carefully considering the resources needed to acquire equipment and train team members against the time required to digitize hand drawings after fieldwork campaigns

Eveha International's multifaceted approach to digital field recording demonstrates the importance of adaptability in international commercial archaeology. Despite its apparent rigidity, field data collection enables archaeologists working in such contexts to efficiently produce high-quality data when standardized digital practices are combined with a flexible technology toolbox and open communication strategies.

In this article we try to put in order the facts and separate them from the myths related to more or less varied forms of therapy situated within the category of 'silvotherapy'. We also try to estimate the possibilities of applying the silvotherapy under the Warmia-Mazury regional conditions, associating it with the objectives of national and international tourism. After all, in the context of conducting the silvotherapy, we positively assess the usefulness of forest stands in the region and propose a list of 'principles of good practice', which is designed to maximize the use of native forest stands by local groups interested in 'silvotherapy'.

Praca ma na celu ukazanie możliwości wykorzystania skanera laserowego do ochrony ekosystemów na etapie podejmowania decyzji przestrzennych. Zastosowana laserowa technika automatycznego pomiaru pozwoliła w krótkim czasie uzyskać mierzalne, w pełni obiektywne modele punktowe terenu. Uzyskany skan przetworzono nakładając teksturę dla uzyskania modelu przestrzennego, a następnie wkomponowano elementy zagospodarowania w ich naturalnym otoczeniu. Sporządzona wizualizacja może być pomocna przy wyborze najkorzystniejszego wariantu zagospodarowania przestrzeni, w tym może także prowadzić do ochrony terenu przed jego zainwestowaniem i zarazem do pozostawienia go w formie niezmienionej. Dla potrzeb badań wspomagających ochronę ekosystemów diagnozowano dwa wybrane obiekty zlokalizowane w miejscowościach Sobótka (gm. Sobótka) i Maniów Mały (gm. Mietków). Badania terenowe przeprowadzono w latach 2011/2012 r. Ustalono, że zalesienie jednego z obszaru badań zgodnie z przyjętą polityką rozwoju przestrzennego przesłoni widok na koronę zapory Zbiornika Mietkowskiego.

Informacje takie tworzą bazy danych o nieruchomościach. W Polsce taką oficjalną bazą jest rejestr cen i wartości nieruchomości (RCiWN), będący częścią ewidencji gruntów i budynków, prowadzonej przez starostów na szczeblu powiatu. Inne bazy nieruchomości są prowadzone przez poszczególnych rzeczoznawców lub firmy zajmujące się wyceną nieruchomości lub wykorzystujące takie dane. W niniejszej pracy opisano podjęte próby modelowania baz danych o nieruchomościach z zastosowaniem narzędzi Komputerowo Wspomaganej Inżynierii Oprogramowania (Computer Aided Software Engineering -CASE). Działania były prowadzone dwutorowo. This paper tries to exam the extent and correctness of the implementation of landscape ecology concepts in spatial development plans on a regional level. The commonest concepts and theories of landscape ecology were divided into four groups concerning: the structure, functioning and potential of landscape and man -environment relations. The studies were conducted on regional development plans prepared for 14 voivodeships in Poland, whose contents were divided into four parts: conditions, rules and directions of spatial development and cartographical annexes (maps). The implementation of landscape ecology concepts was investigated in these main parts of the plans. The conclusion is that the level of implementation of these theories and terms in regional development plans is generally low and they are often confused or misused. The landscape is usually treated not as a natural or cultural object but as a physiognomic one. A great problem is the weak implementation of the concept of landscape potential, although it is very important for a good application of spatial planning. It is necessary to "translate" the complicated scientific language into the practical language of planners, politicians and managers. It is recommended to prepare a handbook of implementation of landscape-ecological concepts in spatial planning, particularly on a regional level. The cover and management factor (C-factor) of the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) represents the effects of crop cover, weighted by rainfall pattern, on predicted soil erosion rates. This requires an estimate of seasonal rainfall erosivity and soil protection afforded by the crop at different phenological stages, expressed by a soil loss ratio (SLR). However, soil erosion modelers often rely on vegetation-index-based regressions to directly estimate the cover and management factor (C-factor) of the USLE from satellite images. Since this approach is based on a single or very few images, it does not characterize the seasonality of the crop cover or reflect the seasonality of the rainfall erosivity. Here, we evaluated five vegetation indices (NDVI, NDRE, SFDVI, ViGREEN, and MGRVI) in predicting SLRs and the C-factor for a sugarcane plot in Southeast Brazil. We used Sentinel-2 images and orthomosaics obtained by UAV surveys performed at the middle of each phenological stage. We compared the estimates of the C-factor based on the SLRs and rainfall erosivity against direct regressions from the literature. Our results confirmed the expected poor correlation between the C-factor and the vegetation indices. On the other hand, using the proposed vegetation indices proved to be a reliable alternative to predict the SLR in sugarcane areas, especially the NDVI, the NDRE, and MGRVI. In particular, the MGRVI accurately predicted the SLR and classified the UAV-derived orthomosaics.

Combining the functionality of mobile devices (smartphones and tablets), wireless communication (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 3/4G), and positioning technologies (GPS, Assisted GPS and GLONASS) results in a new era of mobile geographic information systems (GIS) that aim at providing various invaluable services, including location-based services, intelligent transportation systems, logistics management, security and safety, etc. Many mobile GIS applications have been developed to solve challenging real-world problems and improve our quality of life.

Crowdsourcing applications that integrate storytelling and geotagging capabilities offer new avenues for engaging the public in cultural heritage. However, standardised evaluation frameworks are lacking. This paper presents an applied evaluation methodology involving the analysis of relevant web-based tools. Towards this goal, this paper presents the development of crowdsourcing applications using, as a case study, the collection of myths and legends associated with the monumental heritage site of the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes in Greece. Additionally, the paper presents an evaluation conducted through a criteria-based approach and user-based survey. The study reviews the concepts of crowdsourcing and digital storytelling within digital heritage, along with current concepts of living heritage and folklore, and examines relevant initiatives. The evaluation follows a four-stage methodology: (i) initial web-based tool selection based on the minimum requirements of web compatibility, crowdsourced data display, and map-based storytelling capability; (ii) application development using the selected web-based tools; (iii) a five-criteria assessment, based on the factors of open access, usability/tool support, participatory content/story creation, metrics provision and metadata model usage; and (iv) a crowd-based survey, indicating the most effective option. Findings from 100 respondents reveal limited exposure to participatory storytelling applications but interest in contributing content. Social media and influential figures serve as key channels for promoting crowdsourcing open calls. The results highlight gaps in understanding user expectations and perceptions, suggesting future research for gaining insights into engagement rates.

The ARCH_DATA application is a mobile computing application developed with the aim of creating a more manageable and simplified process of data collection through archaeological field survey.
The name comes from ‘Archaeological Data’ and refers to the application’s archaeological survey functions. It’s a program for collecting, analyzing, and maintaining all of the field survey’s data –archaeological, cultural, and environmental. Furthermore, it creates a geospatial archaeological
database that is simple to integrate into a GIS environment.
The ARCH_DATA application has a number of benefits, first and foremost its simplicity of use. Like all mobile applications, it only requires the user to have a mobile device as their primary logging device. It adapts to the requirements of each archaeological survey by simply modifying the fields
of interest to correspond to the demands of each team. There is no limit to the number of entries a user can import, and there is no restriction on the number of people who can use the app at the same time.

Louis-Charles Lortet (1836-1909) is one of the pioneering figures of prehistoric research in Egypt. Doctor by training, director of the Natural History Museum of Lyon from 1870, he acquired, through several study missions – in 1873-1875 and then in 1880 – a vast knowledge of the Near East and its ancient cultures. Very early on, his interest focused on mummified specimens of ancient Egyptian fauna, and he wanted to establish a reference collection in Lyon based on such material. After several unsuccessful attempts to get an excavation concession, Lortet finally obtained the permission in 1901 to continue fieldwork in Upper Egypt, on the condition of creating a new gallery in the Cairo Museum devoted to the paleo-fauna of the Nile valley, using fossils and mummies from the various sites he proposed to explore. Thanks to these missions, he discovered several Paleolithic sites at Gabanat el-Qurud, in the Theban Mountains, at Aswan and at Gebel-Souhan. His work in France had enabled him to develop a “multidisciplinary” method of approach to prehistoric deposits, integrating geological, paleontological and anthropological analyses: it is this approach that he adopted to characterise, from a palaeoecological point of view, the unearthed ecological and cultural remains. He proceeded in the same way for the flint artefacts collected in the Predynastic cemeteries of Gebelein, Khozam, Roda and Rizakat. These objects are then meticulously serialised with a view to their didactic presentation. The inventory of the lithic collections of the Musée des Confluences made it possible to carry out a new examination of these pieces based on an in-depth technological study. Based on a critical evaluation of the ancient documentation and a revision of their chronological attribution, we propose to present in this article the historiographical and archaeological dimensions of these series and the place they occupy in the construction of Egyptian Prehistory.

Das Internet ist auf dem Weg in der Gesellschaft eine ähnlich Verbreitung wie z.B. das Fernsehen zu erlangen. Laut einer Erhebung von Computer Industry Almanac Inc. (Quelle: http://www.c-i-a.com/pr0904.htm) nutzen inzwischen fast 1 Mrd. Menschen weltweit das Internet! Im Bereich der Geoinformationssysteme wurde Internettechnologie zu Beginn der 90er Jahre eingeführt. Dabei stand zunächst die reine Darstellung von Kartenausschnitten im Internet im Vordergrund, was mit Hilfe dieser Technik von Beginn an auf relativ einfache Weise möglich war. Ca. Mitte der 90er Jahre brachten die GIS-Software-Hersteller sog. Map-Server auf den Markt, welche die Publikation von Geodaten (in Form von Karten) über das Internet ermöglichen. Im weiteren ist die Internettechnologie dann auch im GIS-Bereich zur Schlüsseltechnologie geworden und hat maßgeblich zur weiten Verbreitung von Geoinformationssystemen in unterschiedlichsten Anwendungsgebieten beigetragen.

What is QField? The professional fieldwork app, developed by OPENGIS.ch, is an open-source application designed for geospatial data collection and management, with versatile use in fields such as agriculture, archaeology, and more. Application in archaeology This application has a broad range of uses, including mapping pipeline routes, tracing road layouts, overlaying LIDAR and geophysics data, and determining excavation trench locations, with the added benefit of tracking device locations in real time.

The base map in Poland has been maintained for more than 35 years. Methods and means used for creating the base map were always adequate to available technical means. From the beginning, the base map was the most faithful as to the content, and the most accurate as to the location of the reality model used mainly for official purposes as an aid in the design and realization of investments. Current regulations related to the implementation of the INSPIRE directive, make a lot of changes in the functioning of the base map. However, these changes are not always beneficial. On the basis of long personal experiences related to the automation of maintaining the base map in many geodetic and cartographic documentation centres (PODGiK) the author presents his observations of problems encountered during implementation of new regulations in the functioning of the base map.

The Urban and Regional Planning department at the University of Florida, with support from several organizations, has developed a prototype course that uses Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to teach Albanian middle school children about environmental and sustainability subjects. The course was taught in June of 2012 at the public middle school "Dëshmorët e Lirisë" in Tirana, Albania. The course is based on online and off line data and software. The data includes both Albanian and global themes, while the software used includes the ArcGIS Online Map Services and the ArcGIS Explorer from the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), and Google Earth. The entire course and related data, as well as the products created by the students are freely available online from several websites, but its main portal is at: http://ayfeed.wordpress.com/. Pedagogical principles that guided the design of the course included: teaching with GIS rather than about GIS, integration across many media forms, integration of concepts across disciplines, connection of student's personal experiences and practices to the larger world, a mixed grade classroom rather than an single grade classroom, balance between the role of students as consumers of knowledge versus that of producers of knowledge, classroom teaching conducted via a networked structure-with multiple teachers working as half-peers with the students and in concert with one another. This project was conceived as a prototype case study towards the development of a broader international curriculum that would provide integrated teaching of spatial literacy and urban management subject matters to young students. Work towards such a curriculum is already underway at the University of Florida with two projects in their initial stages.

Development of geographic information systems for mobile and hand held computer devices requires significantly modified approach in comparison to development of more traditional GISs. Main issues to be addressed are efficient handling of limited memory and processing power, appropriate management and presentation of information on highly restricted devices and design of appropriate user interfaces. User interface design is rarely discussed in research but can significantly impact usability of the system. Communication of data and commands between a user and an application is explicit in most traditional user interface designs. This has the effect that information concerning environment of the user mostly remains unused or has to be formalized by the user. In the mobile environment the goal is to reduce workload for the user and automate, as much as possible, the process of application adaptation to the operating environment conditions. This paper presents basic categorization of context and data structures and algorithms developed for automated context management, interpretation and usage in an application based on mobile GIS application framework.

As Geotecnologias da Informacao e Comunicacao (geoTICs) sao ferramentas provenientes do avanco da globalizacao e potentes recursos para o ensino, auxiliando no desenvolvimento de atividades inovadoras e ludicas que contribuem para o processo ensino-aprendizagem de Geografia. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi discutir o uso das geotecnologias da informacao e comunicacao como ferramentas pedagogicas em Geografia, tendo como metodo de ensino o jogo de "caca ao tesouro" associado ao GPS. Esse artigo e fruto do Projeto Geocacadores do Conhecimento que e uma proposta pedagogica para a utilizacao das GeoTICs no ensino. A metodologia desenvolvida foi da pesquisa-acao na execucao de praticas para trabalhar conteudos e competencias dentro e fora da sala de aula. As geoTICs sao excelentes ferramentas pedagogicas, potencializando o aprendizado para uma experiencia alem da sala de aula, a competitividade, a criatividade e o contato com a natureza.

Background/Objectives: Indonesia becomes one of the countries which have the biggest population in the world. The most significant demographic problem in Indonesia is high rate of population. Methods: The study is proposed to give solution of demographic data that will be nationally used as a monitor device toward population development to control the population in the form of area mapping visualization based on geographic information system. Findings: It is noted that in 2012, the number of populations were 243.3 million people; placing Indonesia in the 4 th rank as the most populated country in the world and the 3rd rank in Asia. The number of population in Indonesia increases year by year. It is predicted that in several incoming years, population problem will keep increasing if the government does not try to overcome the problem comprehensively, and the society does not have awareness related to the problem. It is predicted that in 2016 and 2025 the number of population in Indonesia can reach 255.7 and 278 million people. It causes dense population with disputable quality. The success of government's program in improving people's living quality should be supported by the existence of national demographic data to apply high quality governmental programs. Application/Improvements: The use of demographic data should be applied to monitor the development of population number in every provincial area within the support of geographic information system (GIS) model as well as to control the number of populations. Background Understanding the response of vector habitats to climate change is essential for vector management. Increasingly, there is fear that climate change may cause vectors to be more important for animal husbandry in the future. Therefore, knowledge about the current and future spatial distribution of vectors, including ticks (Ixodida), is progressively becoming more critical to animal disease control. Methods Our study produced present (2018) and future (2050) bont tick (Amblyomma hebraeum) niche models for Mashonaland Central Province, Zimbabwe. Specifically, our approach used the Ensemble algorithm in Biomod2 package in R 3.4.4 with a suite of physical and anthropogenic covariates against the tick’s presence-only location data obtained from cattle dipping facilities. Rapid urbanization and industrialization in Lahore and Faisalabad have intensified air pollution issues, influencing nitrogen dioxide (NO 2) concentrations, land surface temperature (LST), and vegetation. The study aims to comprehensively assess changes in NO 2 , LST, and vegetation induced by industrialization, focusing on seasonal variations from 2019 to 2022. The study evaluates NO 2 concentrations vegetation health using indices normalized difference vegetation index, enhanced vegetation index, atmospherically resistant vegetation index, and LST variations. The analysis reveals a notable increase in NO 2 during both summer and winter, with approximately 0.021 (×10 3 mol/m 2) and 0.03 (×10 3 mol/m 2) rises observed in Lahore. In comparison, Faisalabad experienced more modest increases of around 0.0034 (×10 3 mol/m 2) and 0.007 (×10 3 mol/m 2) in the respective seasons. Simultaneously, vegetation indices decline in both cities, indicating substantial vegetation health deterioration. Moreover, a notable upward trend in LST occurred, with Lahore experiencing an increase of approximately 1.59°C in summer and 0.92°C in winter. Faisalabad also showed rises of around 1.64 and 0.54°C in the corresponding seasons. Pearson correlation analysis highlights a robust negative correlation between NO 2 and vegetation indices, underlining the impact of declining vegetation on air quality. Uzyskany skan przetworzono nakładając teksturę dla uzyskania modelu przestrzennego, a następnie wkomponowano elementy zagospodarowania w ich naturalnym otoczeniu. Sporządzona wizualizacja może być pomocna przy wyborze najkorzystniejszego wariantu zagospodarowania przestrzeni, w tym może także prowadzić do ochrony terenu przed jego zainwestowaniem i zarazem do pozostawienia go w formie niezmienionej. Dla potrzeb badań wspomagających ochronę ekosystemów diagnozowano dwa wybrane obiekty zlokalizowane w miejscowościach Sobótka (gm. Sobótka) i Maniów Mały (gm. Mietków). Badania terenowe przeprowadzono w latach 2011/2012 r. Ustalono, że zalesienie jednego z obszaru badań zgodnie z przyjętą polityką rozwoju przestrzennego przesłoni widok na koronę zapory Zbiornika Mietkowskiego.

مدينة دسوق ،إحدى مدن محافظة كفرالشيخ فى شمال دلتا مصر من المدن التى حباها الله بنعم كثيرة أهلتها لدور يفوق دور عواصم الكثير من المحافظات المصرية من الناحية الإدارية والوظيفية والحضارية ،  فهى تلقب بعروس النيل لوقوعها على فرع رشيد  وتطل عليه بجبهة طولية قدرها ستة كيلومترات ، كما تمثل عقدة من عقد الحركة والمواصلات فى شمال الدلتا ، لتربط محافظات كفر الشيخ والبحيرة والغربية والدقهلية ، هذا بالإضافة إلى كونها مزارا دينيا لأكثر رموز الصوفية شهرة ، حيث يوجد بها مسجد العارف بالله ابراهيم الدسوقى آخر الأقطاب الصوفية الأربعة ، الذى ينتهى نسبه إلى الإمام الحسين رضى الله عنه ،  ويزور ضريحه  أكثر من مليون زائر سنوياً من شتى البقاع ، وهو أحد أكبر مساجد العالم الإسلامي مساحة وجعل من المدينة عضوا مؤسسا في منظمة العواصم والمدن الإسلامية نظراً لمكانتها الدينية بالنسبة للطرق الصوفية ،  وبه مكتبة إسلامية جامعة ، بجانب العديد من المزارات والأضرحة الصوفية الأخرى التي تنتشر في معظم أحياء ومناطق المدينة ، وبها معهد ديني أزهري  يُعد من أقدم ثلاثة معاهد أزهرية في مصر.. وكنيسة مار جرجس من أقدم كنائس المحافظة.
        ودسوق مدينة تجارية، فالمشتغلون بالتجارة من سكان المدينة يشكلون نسبة 64.8% من جملة العاملين بالتجارة بمحافظة كفر الشيخ ، وتضم المدينة عدداً من المعالم السياحية الشهيرة على المستوى العالمي، ومن أبرزها  بوتو القديمة أو تل الفراعين التي كانت عاصمة مملكة شمال مصر  في عصر ما قبل توحيد القطرين على يد الملك مينا  نعرمر عام 3200 ق.م ويطلق عليها إبطو اليوم .
      وتدرج المدينة تحت تصنيف المدن السياحية الإقليمية، ولذلك تظهر السياحة بها على أربعة أشكال: السياحة الدينية والتاريخية والترفيهية والنيلية . ونظراً لتوسط موقع المدينة بين محافظات كفر الشيخ، والبحيرة، والإسكندرية، والغربية ؛ وإشرافها على نهر النيل، ووقوعها كحد فاصل بين إقليم الحاصلات التقليدية جنوباً وإقليم الأرز شمالاً، أصبحت عقدة حضرية ذات طابع تجاري لتقاطع خطوط الطرق بها، سواء كانت هذه الطرق برية بأنواعها أو طرق ملاحة نهرية.
    وتبلغ مساحة المدينة 11.8 كم2  وتأتى فى المساحة بعد مدينة كفرالشيخ ، ويبلغ عدد سكانها 137.660 نسمة عام  2017، وتبعد عن القاهرة بمسافة 167 كيلومتراً ، وعن الإسكندرية بحوالى 85 كيلومتراً ، وتشتهر المدينة بصناعة الحلوى ، وتمليح الأسماك كالرنجة والفسيخ ، وصناعة الفخار ، وصناعة أفران البوتاجاز وتجارة قطع غيار السيارات المستوردة من اليابان،وماليزيا وتايلاند، وسنغافورة، والولايات المتحدة ، كما تشتهر بمضارب الأرز ومطاحن الدقيق والصناعات الغذائية .
ويتناول هذا البحث عددا من المحاور الرئيسة  التى توضح مظاهر الاستقطاب وهيمنة هذه المدينة على المدن المجاورة لها وسلبها اختصاصاتها ومقومات وجودها سواء كانت تابعة لمحافظة كفر الشيخ التى تنتمى إليها ، أو كانت مدن تتبع لمحافظات أخرى مجاورة كمحافظة البحيرة والغربية .
