Μια νέα υπηρεσία που αναπτύσσεται από την Κεντρική Βιβλιοθήκη του Εθνικού Μετσόβιου Πολυτεχνείου (ΕΜΠ) αποτελεί η δηµιουργία ψηφιακής βιβλιοθήκης και ιδρυµατικού αποθετηρίου. Η Κεντρική Βιβλιοθήκη επιχειρεί να προάγει την ελληνική πολιτιστική κληρονοµιά, παρέχοντας σπάνιο ψηφιοποιηµένο περιεχόµενο. Συνάµα προσπαθεί να εγκαθιδρύσει νέες ρουτίνες στην ακαδηµαϊκή κοινότητα αναφορικά µε την ηλεκτρονική υποβολή και αυτο-αρχειοθέτηση των διπλωµατικών, µεταπτυχιακών και διδακτορικών διατριβών που κατατίθενται στο ιδρυµατικό αποθετήριο. Περιγράφονται οι ψηφιακές συλλογές, το λογισµικό διάθεσής τους, η πιλοτική λειτουργία του ιδρυµατικού αποθετηρίου και της ηλεκτρονικής υποβολής, καθώς επίσης η εξέλιξη και η αξιολόγηση της αναπτυσσόµενης υπηρεσίας.

Although the Minoan site of Koumasa in southern Crete has played a prominent role in research for over a century, its topographical and regional significance has been less extensively studied. The analysis of the topography in and around Koumasa provides both a foundation for future contextual studies and a holistic, diachronic perspective on the networks in the Central Messara and the Asterousia region, at whose transition Koumasa is situated. The innovative application of GIS methods, combined with field surveys, yields new insights both into methodology and the significance of Koumasa during the Minoan period and its subsequent gradual decline.

V prispevku so predstavljeni rezultati multidisciplinarnih raziskav širših območij arheoloških najdišč Poštela pri Mariboru in Novine/Bubenberg (ali Hoarachkogel) pri Šentilju. Obe ob utrjenem naselju sestavljajo še plana in gomilna grobišča ter ugreznjene poti, ki so pomembne za širše razumevanje vpetosti najdišč v njihovo okolico. Najdišči sta bili v starejši železni dobi regionalni središči med Alpami in Panonijo, v njihovi bližini pa so bile odkrite tudi druge naselbine, verjetno z drugačno funkcijo. Takšni sta Čreta pri Slivnici in Plački vrh/Platsch, ki sta prav tako vključeni v študijo. Nekatere raziskave so še v teku, zato pričujoči prispevek ne podaja zaključnih ugotovitev, kljub temu pa prinaša novosti, ki v nekaterih segmentih dopolnjujejo poznavanje starejše železne dobe v severovzhodni Sloveniji in v širšem kulturnem krogu. এই গবেষণাপত্রে বাংলাদেশের প্রধান প্রত্নতাত্ত্বিক ঐতিহ্যের অন্যতম কেন্দ্র ময়নামতি জাদুঘরের প্রদর্শনী ব্যবস্থাপনার দিকগুলো বিশ্লেষণ করা হয়েছে। গবেষণায় প্রদর্শনী পদ্ধতি, স্থানীয় বিন্যাস এবং ব্যাখ্যামূলক কৌশলগুলি কিভাবে দর্শকদের ময়নামতি প্রত্নতাত্ত্বিক সংগ্রহের সাথে পরিচিতি করায়, তা তুলে ধরা হয়েছে। প্রদর্শনীর আকর্ষণ বাড়ানোর সাথে সাথে সংগ্রহের সংরক্ষণের চ্যালেঞ্জও এখানে আলোচিত হয়েছে। আধুনিক প্রযুক্তি এবং কিউরেটরিয়াল কৌশলের ভূমি প্রদর্শনী মান উন্নয়নে কিভাবে সহায়ক, তা বিশ্লেষণ করা হয়েছে। শেষমেষ, গবেষণায় দেখা গেছে যে, কার্যকর প্রদর্শনী ব্যবস্থাপনা ময়নামতি জাদুঘরে সাংস্কৃতিক ঐতিহ্য রক্ষা এবং জনসাধারণের ইতিহাসবোধ উভয়ই সমৃদ্ধ করতে পারে।

This paper explores exhibition management practices in the context of the Mainamati Museum, a key repository of Bangladesh’s Buddhist archaeological heritage. The study highlights how display techniques, spatial organization, and interpretive methods contribute to visitors’ understanding of artifacts from the Mainamati archaeological sites. It emphasizes the challenges of balancing artifact preservation with engaging presentation for diverse audiences. The research also examines the role of modern technology and curatorial strategies in enhancing exhibition quality. Ultimately, the paper argues that effective exhibition management at Mainamati Museum can both safeguard cultural heritage and enrich public historical consciousness.

The trebuchet is a type of siege engine that utilizes a swinging arm to throw a heavy projectile. Unlike its predecessor, the catapult, which stores energy in tension or torsion, the trebuchet is a gravity-powered machine. It works by harnessing the gravitational potential energy of a massive counterweight and converting it into the kinetic energy of a projectile. This mechanism allowed for the launching of extremely heavy payloads over long distances, making it a dominant weapon in medieval warfare. This case study will analyze the mechanical principles governing the trebuchet's operation, focusing on the critical energy transformations that dictate its performance and the subsequent projectile motion that determines its range.

The paper details the application of Airborne Laser Scanning (ALS) or LiDAR data and processing techniques within QGIS software to create high-resolution digital terrain models (DTMs) of the "Ulaka Hillfort" site. Through various visualization methods, I have identified and interpreted numerous previously unknown or poorly documented features, including over 90 potential building depressions, ancient streets and the continuous hillfort rampart, significantly expanding on earlier fieldwork by Walter Schmid. Furthermore, the analysis situates the Ulaka settlement within the broader Late Iron Age and Roman military landscape of southern Slovenia, referencing surrounding Roman camps and potential siegeworks that relate to historical conflicts in the region.

This study presents a spatial analysis of the Xiongnu elite burial complex at the Gol Mod-II site in Arkhangai aimag, Mongolia, using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)-based remote sensing and Geographic Information System (GIS). Over 500 burial mounds, classified into square, circular, and satellite types, were documented to generate orthomosaic imagery and Digital Surface Model (DSM). Kernel Density Estimation (KDE) was applied to visualise the spatial distribution and potential hierarchical patterns among the burial types. Despite the limitations due to the absence of Ground Control Points (GCPs) and manual UAV operation, the analysis provided meaningful insights into the organisation of Xiongnu burial landscapes based on relative spatial positioning. This study demonstrates the practical integration of UAV and GIS technologies in Eurasian steppe archaeology and highlights the potential of interdisciplinary approaches to the study of nomadic cemetery landscapes.

It was exactly 40 years ago when I found myself in Kabul, Afghanistan, a Fulbright Lecturer in Architecture assigned to the fledgling Department of Architecture at the University of Kabul, a school that had a tendency to disappear every summer precipitating a need to reconstruct itself by the first day of classes. I was assisting the even younger Department Chairman Rafi Samizay, and recently returned from Chicago, and equally intent on redefining and making more relevant the curriculum and courses leading to a degree in Architecture. We were also assisted by two older Peace Corps volunteers, Ralph Jackson and Walter Van Gelder, who although lacking in teaching experience were well seasoned practitioners dedicated to developing an effective set of courses for a most enthusiastic and receptive body of students, male and female, who flocked to the program. Consequently the first few months were consumed with strategy sessions involving the entire Afghan faculty, reviewing curriculum proposals and once initiated, the final refinement of courses. It appeared that we were well on our way to a most prosperous and adventuresome year of instruction.

The Material Culture Macroecology is a novel framework for analyzing human societies through their material remains. Rooted in archaeology, this approach integrates theories from systems science, complexity science, sociophysics, econophysics, and evolutionary theory to treat society as a dynamically evolving system. Drawing on empirical research in the Maya city of Tikal, including the distribution of architectural compounds and artifacts, it demonstrates how continuous size distributions and statistical regularities can reveal underlying social structures. By bridging ancient and contemporary contexts, the macroecology of material culture provides a unified methodology for comparative research across time and space, moving beyond descriptive archaeology to generate higher-order, quantitatively grounded insights into societal dynamics. This approach positions material culture not merely as evidence of the past, but as a medium through which societies reproduce, self-organize, and evolve.

A Pécs-Lapison nyilvántartott késő római kori őrtorony a Baranya vármegyei római kori villagazdaságok tájrégészeti kutatása kapcsán került homloktérbe, hiszen elhelyezkedése és a térség úthálózatában játszott szerepe jelentős lehetett, így támpontként szolgálhatott a mecseki átkelőhelyek, közlekedési folyosók vizsgálatában. Pontos lokalizálása ezen felül lehetőséget adott a térinformatikai alapokon nyugvó elemzésekre is, így a Sopianaeból kiinduló lehetséges útnyomvonalak vizsgálatára, és a Mecsek-hegység egykori tájhasználatára.

The late Roman watchtower found at Pécs-Lapis gained prominence in connection with the landscape archaeological research of Roman villa estates in Baranya County. Its location and potential role in the region's road network may have been significant, thus serving as a reference point for examining Mecsek mountain passes and transportation corridors. Moreover, its precise localization provided an opportunity for analyses based on geographic information systems, including the study of potential routes originating from Sopianae and the former land use of the Mecsek Mountains.

Az 1526-as mohácsi csata szempontjából marginális kérdésnek tűnhet a térség antik viszonyainak bemutatása, ugyanakkor a római határvédelmi rendszer és úthálózat feltérképezése támpontokat adhat a későbbi időszakokra, így a török korra gyakorolt hatásuk vizsgálatában is. A témát tekintve, a nagyjából Mohács-Eszék közti területen számos új kutatási eredmény született az elmúlt évtizedekben, amelyek ide vonatkozó ismertetésén túl olyan kérdésekre helyezem a hangsúlyt, amelyekben a római kori példák a Duna egykori vízrajzának és változásának, valamint a kapcsolódó úthálózat és közlekedési folyosók állandóságának megértését segíthetik.

The project of an Archaeological Information System applied to urban archaeology in the city of Enna-started in 2013 after the awarding of a post-grad research fellowship at the Kore University-has been enriched in recent years, thanks to its nature as an open and implementable platform, with new data from more recent preventive archaeology investigations conducted in the urban context. The integration of new data into the GIS has multiplied the analytical and querying potentials: this has led to a re-reading and reinterpretation of what had been conveyed by the history of archaeological research in Enna, and the development of a new hypothesis for the topographic map of the ancient city. The use of this system with the aim of predicting buried resources allows for the development of an Archaeological Potential Map, which is now a useful and essential tool for an archaeology that increasingly seeks to become an integral part of urban planning and, more generally, public works.

The earliest phase of use of the cemetery at Nowy Łowicz and the beginnings of barrow burial rites in the Wielbark culture

In the cemetery at Nowy Łowicz, Drawsko Pomorskie county, two barrows dated by the brooches Almgren 68 and Almgren 53 were discovered. These features should be dated to phases B1b-B2a and should be linked to the earliest horizon of the barrow burial rites in the Wielbark culture. The other early-dated barrow cemeteries from this phase primarily contain graves with Almgren 68 and Almgren 53 fibulae too, less frequently Almgren 71, Almgren 75 and perhaps Almgren 28. A slightly younger horizon, correlated with the earliest subphase B2a, is dated with the earliest eye brooches of the Prussian series Almgren 58-59. In Grzybnica and Leśno the oldest barrows are slightly younger than the graves in the flat parts of the cemeteries. However, it should be noted that some of the mounds from both of these sites did not contain precise chronological markers. It cannot therefore be ruled out that some of them were in fact contemporaneous with the oldest flat burials.
The oldest barrows of the Wielbark culture are a surprisingly small group in the light of the current state of research. Taking into account only professionally excavated and precisely dated cemeteries, we obtain only eight barrows from five sites (B1b-B2a: Nowy Łowicz, Gronowo and Pławno, no earlier than B2a: Grzybnica, Węsiory), most from the western settlement zone of the Wielbark culture in Pomerania. It is difficult to assess whether this picture shows the real role of settlement clusters in Western Pomerania in the crystallisation of barrow burial rites, or whether it is just an expression of the unsatisfactory state of research? It is worth noting that among the oldest tumuli there are both barrows of earth mounds (Nowy Łowicz, Gronowo) and of stone and earth mounds (Grzybnica, Pławno and Węsiory).

Elektrotechnická fakulta České vysoké učení technické Abstrakt Oblast datových skladů se v několika posledních letech velmi úspěšně rozvíjí a využívá. Prostředí pro grafický návrh datového skladu, snadné dotazování a zároveň rychlé vyhodnocování a další části datových skladů jsou dnes na velice dobré úrovni. Trochu stranou hlavního zájmu stojí skupina nástrojů, souhrnně nazývaná ETL -Extraction, Transformation, and Load. Jejich úkolem je zpracovávat data, přicházející často z velmi různorodých zdrojů, provádět převody mezi formáty, případně náročnější výpočty, a nakonec upravená data uložit do vnitřní databáze datového skladu. Dále popsaný systém se zabývá zjednodušením a zefektivnění celého procesu ETL za pomoci meta dat. Meta data jsou použita jednak k popisu struktury dat, jednak k popisu vlastní transformace. Knihovna pro jejich spravování je součástí systému MIND A NAO a obsahuje i metody pro přístup k popsaným datům. Meta data pak určují způsob zacházení s těmito daty. Pro interpretaci meta dat, pro přístup a zpracování dat byl vytvořen speciální programovací jazyk -Sumatra, podobný jazykům Java a C. V tomto jazyku je možné přistupovat k datovým objektům, k meta datům, případně jsou zabudovány některé příkazy pro práci přímo se soubory. Dále systém pracuje na principu "šablon (templates), který umožňuje jednou navrhnout typ transformace s jeho následným mnohonásobným využitím. Šablony určují kostru transformace, doplňovanou parametry z meta dat. Celý systém MIND A NAO je striktně ovládán meta daty. Ta jsou zatím upravována přímým zápisem do textových souborů, pracuje se na grafickém prostředím. To by mělo zastřešit z hlediska uživatele celý systém a skrýt implementační detaily.

Järvelin, Kalervo & Vakkari, Pertti, Kirjastotieteen ja informatiikan tutkimusartikkelien sisällönanalyysi (Content analysis of research articles in the library and information science). Kirjastotiede ja informatiikka 7 (4): 1988. A content analysis of research literature in library and information science (LIS) is reported. The aim of the study is to find out how international research articles in LIS are distributed over various topics and what approaches and methods have been used to investigate these topics. The study material consists of 833 articles published during 1985 in 40 core journals in LIS. All full articles of the journals were analyzed according to eleven dimensions covering their topic, approach and method. 54 % of the articles were classified as research articles proper the rest being non-research (e.g. reviews, discussions, bibliographies, etc.). The shares of library and information service activities and information storage and retrieval among the topics of the research articles were both nearly 30 %. There was very little research on information seeking (6 %) and scientific communication (7 %). The share of empirical research methods was 56 % with survey method (22 %) as the single most popular method. Argumentation was employed in 23 % of the articles and system analysis, description and design in 15 %. A cross-tabulation of article topics and methods is given in the article. Some 60 % of the articles are concerned with problems, development, tools and methods, i.e. have a technical interest.

La scheda analizza il cippo funerario CIL V 1211, un terminus in calcare di Aurisina rinvenuto ad Aquileia nel 1651 presso la chiesa di Santo Stefano. L’iscrizione, recante la formula L·M / FLAVIORVM / Q·Q·V·P·L (Locus Monumenti Flaviorum quoquo versus pedes quinquaginta), delimita un recinto sepolcrale quadrato di 50 piedi per lato, attestandosi come uno dei più ampi documentati ad Aquileia. Lo studio ricostruisce la storia collezionistica del manufatto (Orsato → Silvestri → Maffei) e ne analizza gli aspetti materiali, paleografici e contestuali. Vengono discusse le varianti di scioglimento delle abbreviazioni (QQV = quoquo versus vs. quaqua versus) proposte dagli auctores storici (Reinesius, Muratori, Maffei, Orelli), evidenziando errori e dipendenze testuali. L’analisi del ductus, del modulo e dell’ordinatio suggerisce una datazione al I secolo d.C., supportata dalla diffusione del gentilizio Flavius in epoca flavia. Il cippo è contestualizzato nella tipologia dei recinti funerari aquileiesi, caratterizzati da misure standardizzate e da una pianificazione spaziale ben documentata epigraficamente.

L’elaborato intende fornire una sintesi sulle pratiche della geografia, topografia, storia e ricerca archeologica che sono state applicate allo studio dell’antica città di Enna (Umbilicus Siciliae). Attraverso queste discipline l’autore propone una lettura diacronica circa le evidenze che accompagnano le fasi di sviluppo e trasformazione della città dall’atto della sua presunta fondazione all’era moderna, ponendo particolare attenzione alla topografia dei luoghi, alle fonti storiografiche e ai reperti archeologici superstiti testimoni di una città ormai scomparsa. L’autore affronta lo studio della topografia antica attraverso un approccio metodologico multidisciplinare che integra alla ricerca tradizionale lo sviluppo di un Sistema Informativo Territoriale (modello GIS) in relazione alle recenti scoperte archeo-astronomiche per accrescere il campo conoscitivo del patrimonio archeologico della città di Enna alla base di nuove prospettive di ricerca future.

The paper provides a synthesis of the practices of geography, topography, history and archaeological research that have been applied to the study of the ancient city of Enna (Umbilicus Siciliae). Through these disciplines the author proposes a diachronic reading of the evidence that accompanies the phases of development and transformation of the city from the act of its presumed foundation to the modern era, paying particular attention to the topography of the places, the historiographical sources and the surviving archaeological finds that are witnesses of a city that has now disappeared. The author approaches the study of ancient topography through a multidisciplinary methodological approach that integrates traditional research with the development of a Geographic Information System (GIS model) in relation to recent archeoastronomical discoveries to increase the knowledge of the archaeological heritage of the city of Enna as a basis for new research perspectives for the future.

This paper presents a unique set of maps and geospatial data covering 16 ancient terrace agricultural systems in the upper part of the Río Grande de Nasca drainage. These systems are located on the western Andean flank (1200 and 3800 m asl), in the districts of Llauta, Laramate, and Ocaña in Lucanas province, Ayacucho region, southern Peru (14.5° S). Spanning various periods of the prehispanic era (1000 BCE–1532 CE), only limited sections of these terraces are still in use today. Our field methods include archaeological, geomorphological, and drone surveys. The terrace systems were mapped using (1) satellite imagery and (2) high-resolution Digital Surface Models (DSMs) within a Geographic Information System (GIS). The geospatial analysis and mapping results encompass parameters such as elevation range, terrace area, number and condition of terrace walls, length and height of terrace walls, area of individual terraced fields, associated architecture (e.g., irrigation canals), slope, current vegetation and use, and chronology. By documenting the widespread distribution, extent, and diversity of agricultural terraces in the region, this data set is extremely valuable for understanding prehispanic human-environment interactions and land use dynamics, as well as indigenous agricultural practices and resilience strategies in response to environmental and climate change.

El objeto del artículo es presentar una actualización del inventario del megalitismo en la provincia de Granada, revisando de manera exhaustiva la historiografía clásica y pequeñas investigaciones dispersas. Se integran además los hallazgos recientes y se aplican metodologías de registro y análisis territorial . Se analiza tanto el inventario de sitios, como el estado de conservación general de las agrupaciones megalíticas, analizando su distribución geográfica a nivel regional.

Este artículo se centra en los proyectos de elaboración de catálogos sistemáticos de yacimientos arqueológicos (que en Andalucía comienzan a partir de 1984) en un momento histórico caracterizado por el proceso de transformación metodológica que supone las aplicaciones informáticas en este campo, y que constituye el punto de partida de un proyecto de investigación desarrollado en el Departamento de Prehistoria y Arqueología de la Universidad de Sevilla, cuyo propósito principal es contribuir en el proceso de aplicación y diseño de soportes informáticos más eficaces para el tratamiento de los datos arqueológicos. Como los autores explican y describen en este texto, tal proyecto consiste en la aplicación experimental de los Sistemas de Información Geográfica a la gestión del inventario andaluz de yacimientos arqueológicos

Se relatan las primeras fases de implantación por parte del Centro de Documentación del IAPH, en colaboración con el Departamento de Prehistoria y Arqueología de la Universidad de Sevilla, del nuevo proyecto Elaboración de la Cartografía Digital del Patrimonio Arqueológico de Andalucía, una vez consolidado el proyecto Informatización del Inventario de Yacimientos Arqueológicos de Andalucía. Los principales objetivos de esta nueva línea de trabajo se concretaban en la necesidad de disponer de una cartografía propia referida al Patrimonio Arqueológico de Andalucía que permitiera analizar su dimensión espacial y elaborar propuestas dirigidas a su acrecentamiento cualitativo y cuantitativo. La previsión a medio plazo consistía en volcar una selección de campos de información contenidos en la base de datos ARQUEOS que se iría alimentando paulatinamente en un proceso planificado según las pautas detalladas en el artículo.

In this article, we explore transformations and continuities in cosmology and cultural landscape structure across Pueblo history in the US Southwest. Many researchers have directly compared the archaeology of the society centered at Chaco Canyon (ca. AD 850-1140) in northwestern New Mexico with ethnographic documentation of Pueblo communities from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. This approach makes it difficult to understand how cultural transformation played out in the intervening centuries. Here, we investigate this history by comparing Kin Nizhoni, a Chaco-era Great House community in the Red Mesa Valley, with Wiyo' owingeh, a post-Chacoan community in the Rio Grande Valley. We find that the built environments of both sites expressed similar cosmological principles, but architectural expressions of these concepts became less explicitly marked over time. We also find that this similar cosmology was mapped onto different social structures, with a focus on elite architecture in the Chaco era as opposed to communal dwellings with spatially separated shrines in later Pueblo contexts. We close by proposing a connection between the functions of Chacoan Great Houses and later Pueblo World Quarter Shrines. Overall, our findings underscore the utility of cultural landscape studies for tracing relationships between religion and society across North American Indigenous histories. Resumen En este artículo, exploramos las transformaciones y continuidades en la cosmología y la estructura del paisaje cultural a lo largo de la historia de los pueblos del suroeste de Estados Unidos. Muchos investigadores han comparado directamente la arqueología de la sociedad centrada en el Cañón Chaco (aproximadamente entre 850 y 1140 dC) en el noroeste de Nuevo México con la documentación etnográfica de las comunidades de los pueblos de los siglos XIX y XX. Drinking culture. What happens in the field. It was just a joke. Don't rock the boat. Archaeology staggers under the weight of its many "gray zones, " contexts of disciplinary culture where boundaries, relationships, ethical responsibilities, and expectations of behavior are rendered "blurry. " Gray zones rely on an ethos of silence and tacit cooperation rooted in structures of white supremacy, colonialism, heteropatriarchy, and ableism. In the gray zone, subtle and overt forms of abuse become coded as normal, inevitable, impossible, or the unfortunate cost of entry to the discipline. Drawing on narrative survey responses and interviews collected by the Working Group on Equity and Diversity in Canadian Archaeology in 2019 and 2020, we examine the concept of the gray zone in three intersecting contexts: the field, archaeology's drinking culture, and relationships. The work of making archaeology more equitable relies on our ability to confront gray zones directly and collectively. We offer several practical recommendations while recognizing that bureaucratic solutions alone will not be sufficient. Change will require a shift in archaeological culture-a collective project that pulls gray zones into the open and prioritizes principles of care. Resumen Cultura de la bebida. La arqueología como disciplina se desequilibra bajo el peso de sus múltiples "zonas grises": contextos de la cultura académica donde los límites, las relaciones, las responsabilidades éticas y las expectativas de comportamiento se tornan difusas. Estas zonas grises dependen de un conjunto de valores de silencio y cooperación arraigados en estructuras de supremacía blanca, colonialismo, heteropatriarcado y capacitismo. En la zona gris, sutiles y abiertas formas de abuso se presentan como normales, inevitables, improbables o como el desafortunado precio de entrar a la disciplina. El proyecto 'La Carència. Evolución cronológica y urbanística. Valoración dentro del territorio' ha destacado durante los 10 últimos años por su aplicación de metodologías digitales al estudio de la forma urbana de este oppidum ibero-romano y de su territorio. Esta aplicación ha tenido una doble orientación: la investigación arqueológica ha utilizado análisis SIG, reconstrucciones fotogramétricas del paisaje antiguo y análisis de imágenes multiespectrales. La difusión científica se ha beneficiado asimismo de la fotogrametría aérea y de técnicas de modelado virtual 3D para la reconstrucción hipotética del recinto amurallado. En conjunto, la aplicación de metodologías digitales ha resultado de utilidad para el análisis arqueológico al tiempo que ha ayudado al reconocimiento patrimonial del yacimiento y su entorno.

Durante el mes de octubre de 2006 se llevaron a cabo los trabajos de demolición del inmueble nº3 de la calle Colón de Novelda. Esta zona quedaba excluida del área de protección especial registrada en el PGOU con lo que la intervención no conllevaba intervención arqueológica previa. No obstante, el seguimiento realizado desde el Museo Arqueológico de Novelda permitió documentar la existencia de restos humanos, lo que obligó a paralizar las obras de cimentación ya iniciadas y llevar a cabo la correspondiente intervención con el preceptivo permiso de la Dirección General de Patrimonio (Expediente 2006-1201-A) y bajo la dirección de Concepción Navarro y Daniel Andrés Díaz 1 . Durante los trabajos iniciales se observó la existencia de estructuras, rellenos sedimentarios y materiales que nada tenían que ver con las inhumaciones características aparecidas en otras localizaciones del casco urbano. Estas sepulturas de época islámica cortaban o se superponían a otras estructuras de cronología prehistórica, hecho que obligó a cambiar la estrategia de actuación. Con este trabajo queremos presentar los resultados del proceso de excavación y estudio de este nuevo asenta-miento neolítico y contextualizarlo en el marco del proceso de neolitización de las cuencas meridionales del levante peninsular. El yacimiento se localiza en la margen derecha del río Vinalopó, a poco menos de un kilómetro del actual cauce (UTM x: 695106; y: 4250871), en una zona completamente llana y urbanizada, dentro del casco urbano de Novelda. Las evidencias arqueológicas han sido localizadas al fondo del solar del nº 3 de la calle Colón, de planta rectangular y distribuidas en un área de unos 70 m 2 . En cuanto al marco físico, se ubica en el fondo de la cubeta central del Medio Vinalopó, un espacio prácticamente llano rodeado por un importante reborde montañoso (Serreta Llarga y sierra del Cid al NO, sierra de Bateig al N, Montagut y sierra de Betíes al O) perteneciente al Prebético meridional valenciano. Esta cubeta natural es atravesada por el río Vinalopó, en la actualidad con un caudal intermitente, y por varias ramblas tributarias que tan sólo portan agua en momentos puntuales.
