The distribution of scientific citations for publications selected with different rules (author, topic, institution, country, journal, etc…) collapse on a single curve if one plots the citations relative to their mean value. We find that the distribution of "shares" for the Facebook posts rescale in the same manner to the very same curve with scientific citations. This finding suggests that citations are subjected to the same growth mechanism with Facebook popularity measures, being influenced by a statistically similar social environment and selection mechanism. In a simple master-equation approach the exponential growth of the number of publications and a preferential selection mechanism leads to a Tsallis-Pareto distribution offering an excellent description for the observed statistics. Based on our model and on the data derived from PubMed we predict that according to the present trend the average citations per scientific publications exponentially relaxes to about 4.

Médica de Chile publica en ocasiones, cada vez más frecuentes, manuscritos recibidos en idioma inglés, cuando sus autores no tienen al español como idioma materno. Con el propósito de conocer si la publicación de manuscritos en inglés, en la Revista Médica de Chile, origina más citaciones en ISI Web of Knowledge que las publicaciones en español, decidimos hacer una investigación, empleando los 120 ejemplares de la Revista publicados entre enero de 2000 y diciembre de 2010. Identificamos e incluimos en este análisis a todos los manuscritos publicados en inglés durante el período indicado (n = 36) y pareamos a cada uno de ellos con dos artículos publicados en español (n = 72), de la misma categoría (artículos de revisión, de investigación, especiales, cartas al editor, editoriales, casos clínicos), de un tema semejante (cuando se pudo) y publicados a menos de 4 meses en distancia cronológica con respecto a la publicación del artículo índice en inglés, para que tuvieran oportunidades semejantes de ser citados. La búsqueda de las citaciones de los artículos publicados en inglés y en español se efectuó en ISI Web of Knowledge. De los 36 manuscritos publicados en inglés, 9 correspondieron a Trabajos de Investigación, 9 a Casos Clínicos, 8 a Artículos de Revisión, 5 a Cartas al Editor, 4 a Artículos Especiales y 1 a una Editorial. De los 9 Artículos de Investigación publicados en inglés, 4 (44,4%) fueron citados al menos en 1 ocasión (23 citaciones en total; mediana: 5; rango intercuartil (RIC): 9,0-2,0). De sus 18 controles publicados en español, 7 (38,9%) fueron citados al menos en una oportunidad (30 citaciones en total; mediana: 4; RIC: 6,0-3,0). Esta diferencia no fue significativa.

Objective: Journal Impact Factor (IF) is well known for being the document measure of scientific journal impact, despite several recognised limitations. Our study tried to propose a new rating system (journal h-index) applied to a sample of psychiatry journals and compared to IF. Method: In order to strictly compare their IF and h-index using the same data, we wanted to work on all the citations obtained in 2006 by the articles published in 2004-2005 in the 50 journals of our Web of Science sample of psychiatry. We studied the statistical correlation between the IF 2006 and hindex 2006. Results: The rankings of the 50 psychiatry journals were different when we took into account respectively the descending order of IF 2006 and h-index 2006 which revealed 16 steps and therefore 16 groups of journals. We noted that two journals were up 21 places (record) in h-index 2006 ranking and one journal lost 17 places. Nevertheless we obtained a high correlation coefficient well illustrated by the group of the seven first journals whose the two rankings were very close. We noted that our sample had only two journals really specialised in the publication of reviews. Conclusions: The rating of journals starting from the h-index may represent an interesting and complementary alternative to the well-known rating based on the IF. The h-index rating proposes a categorization of journals making it possible to create classes of journals with the same h-index. This type of ranking by classes is often appreciated and used by experts and scientific committees of evaluation.

Using strictly the same parameters (identical two publication years (2004)(2005) and identical one-year citation window ( )), IF 2006 was compared with h-index 2006 for two samples of "Pharmacology and Pharmacy" and "Psychiatry" journals computed from the ISI Web of Science. For the two samples, the IF and the h-index rankings of the journals are very different. The correlation coefficient between the IF and the h-index is high for Psychiatry but lower for Pharmacology. The linearity test performed between the h-index and showed the great sensitivity of the model compared with  . The IF and h-index can be completely complementary when evaluating journals of the same scientific discipline.

It consolidates known unconditional results for analytic rank 0 and 1, extends the Gross–Zagier paradigm to higher rank cases, and proposes an algorithmic mode of scenario generation for detecting hidden regularities.
The synthesis reduces remaining obstructions—finiteness of the Tate–Shafarevich group, higher-rank rational point construction, and full generality of Iwasawa theory—to explicit and verifiable tasks.

Owing to their conditions of production, and sometimes to poor storage and transportation conditions, herbal products are susceptible to fungal contamination and development. This can lead to the accumulation of mycotoxins in this kind of commodities. Consequently, herbal products can be contaminated with fungal toxins, such as aflatoxins, ochratoxins and other mycotoxins, which pose a serious risk to public health. This paper reviews the main aspects regarding mycotoxin contamination of medical/aromatic herbs, in the context of the importance of this product in a global market. Moreover, the effect of processing on final contamination of derived foods, as well as the analytical methodology commonly employed in fungal and mycotoxin analysis in this type of products was reviewed.

Background. Pharmaceutical industry funding of psychiatric research has increased significantly in recent decades, raising the question of a relationship between pharmaceutical company funding of clinical psychiatric studies and the outcomes of those studies. This study examines this relationship.Method. s of articles from 1992 and 2002 in four peer-reviewed psychiatric journals were examined. Drug outcomes (n=542) for clinical studies were evaluated and then compared across sponsorship source. Outcome raters were blind to source of sponsorship. The percentage of these studies sponsored by drug companies in 2002 v. 1992 was also compared. In a secondary analysis, the contribution of a series of potentially mediating variables to the relationship between sponsorship source and study outcome was assessed via logistic regression.Results. The SOAP (Study of Open Access Publishing) project has analyzed the current supply and demand situation in the open access journal landscape. Starting from the Directory of Open Access Journals, several sources of data were considered, including journal websites and direct inquiries within the publishing industry to comprehensively map the present supply of online peer-reviewed OA journals. The demand for open access publishing is summarised, as assessed through a large-scale survey of researchers' opinions and attitudes. Some forty thousand answers were collected across disciplines and around the world, reflecting major support for the idea of open access, while highlighting drivers of and barriers to open access publishing.

Readmissions after hospitalization for acute myocardial infarction (AMI) are common. However, the few currently available AMI readmission risk prediction models have poor-to-modest predictive ability and are not readily actionable in real time. We sought to develop an actionable and accurate AMI readmission risk prediction model to identify high-risk patients as early as possible during hospitalization. We used electronic health record data from consecutive AMI hospitalizations from 6 hospitals in north Texas from 2009 to 2010 to derive and validate models predicting all-cause nonelective 30-day readmissions, using stepwise backward selection and 5-fold cross-validation. Universality of citation distributions: Toward an objective measure of scientific impact. Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 105(45), 17268-17272] claim that, apart from a scaling factor, all fields of science are characterized by the same citation distribution. We present a large-scale validation study of this universality-of-citation-distributions claim. Our analysis shows that claiming citation distributions to be universal for all fields of science is not warranted. Although many fields indeed seem to have fairly similar citation distributions, there are quite some exceptions as well. We also briefly discuss the consequences of our findings for the measurement of scientific impact using citation-based bibliometric indicators.

Article retraction is a measure taken by journals or authors where there is evidence of research misconduct or error, redundancy, plagiarism or unethical research. Recently, the retraction of scientific publications has been on the rise. In this survey, we aimed to describe the characteristics and distribution of retracted articles and the reasons for retractions. We searched retracted articles on the PubMed database and Retraction Watch website from 1980 to February 2016. The primary outcomes were the characteristics and distribution of retracted articles and the reasons for retractions. The secondary outcomes included how article retractions were handled by journals and how to improve the journal practices toward article retractions. We included 1,339 retracted articles. Purpose-Since 2000, Academic Emergency Medicine (AEM), the journal of the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, has presented a one-day consensus conference to generate a research agenda for advancement of a scientific topic. One of the 12 annual issues of AEM is reserved for the proceedings of these conferences. The purpose of this study was to measure academic productivity of these conferences by evaluating subsequent federal research funding

OBJECTIVES-Clinical care parameters are frequently assessed by national ranking systems. However, these rankings do little to comment on institutions' academic contributions. The Publication Ranking Score (PRS) was developed to allow for objective comparisons of scientific thought-leadership at various pediatric urology institutions. METHODS-Faculty lists were compiled for each of the US News & World Report (USNWR) top-50 pediatric urology hospitals. A list of all faculty publications (2006-2011) was then compiled, after adjusting for journal impact factor, and summed to derive a Publication Ranking Score (PRS). PRS rankings were then compared to the USNWR pediatric urology top-50 hospital list. RESULTS-A total of 1,811 publications were indexed. PRS rankings resulted in a mean change in rank of 12 positions, compared to USNWR ranks. Of the top-10 USNWR hospitals, only 4 were ranked in the top-10 by the PRS. There was little correlation between the USNWR and PRS ranks for either top-10 (r=0.42, p=0.23) or top-50 (r=0.48, p=0.0004) hospitals.

This study examines gender differences in first-author representation across communication, political science, and sociology journals, with a focus on how gender, academic fields, and journal quartile rankings intersect. We analyzed a proportional, representative sample of 1091 randomly selected articles published in 2021 in these disciplines, using data from the Journal Citation Reports ranking. Our findings reveal notable disciplinary differences: in communication, women were more likely to be first authors, whereas in political science and the overall sample, men held a significantly higher share of first authorships. In sociology, the gender distribution among first authors was more balanced. The results also indicate that the relationship between gender and first authorship varies by discipline, with political science favoring male authors and communication favoring female authors. Additionally, we examined whether journal prestige, measured by quartile rankings, is linked to first-author gender. No significant differences emerged in communication or political science, suggesting similar gender representation across journal quartiles in these fields. However, in sociology and the overall sample, women were more frequently first authors in mid-ranked journals but underrepresented in lower-tier journals. Overall, our findings contribute to ongoing discussions about gender representation in academic publishing, particularly in political science, where disparities in first authorship remain most pronounced.

This document explores a novel interpretation of the Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer (BSD) Conjecture through the lens of Viscous Time Theory (VTT). We propose that the L-function associated with an elliptic curve is not merely an analytic object, but the projection of a deeper informational structurea field of coherence potential whose thresholds determine the existence and abundance of rational points. The rank of an elliptic curve is thus recast as a precipitation index in an informationally viscous medium, offering a new path toward unifying number theory, topology, and field coherence.

The predictive validity of peer review at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has not yet been demonstrated empirically. It might be assumed that the most efficient and expedient test of the predictive validity of NIH peer review would be an examination of the correlation between percentile scores from peer review and bibliometric indices of the publications pro-duced from funded projects. The present study used a large dataset to examine the ratio-nale for such a study, to determine if it would satisfy the requirements for a test of predictive validity. The results show significant restriction of range in the applications selected for fund-ing. Furthermore, those few applications that are funded with slightly worse peer review scores are not selected at random or representative of other applications in the same range. Citation classics represent the highest cited works in a field and are often regarded as the most influential literature. Analyzing thematic trends in citation classics across eras enables recognition of important historical advances within a field. We present the first analysis of the citation classics in neuro-oncology. The Web of Science database was searched using terms relevant to "neuro-oncology." Articles with >400 citations were identified and the top 100 cited articles were evaluated. The top 100 neuro-oncology citation classics consisted of 43 clinical studies (17 retrospective, 10 prospective, 16 randomized trials), 43 laboratory investigations, 8 reviews/meta-analyses, and 6 guidelines/consensus statements. Articles were classified into 4 themes: 13 pertained to tumor classification, 37 to tumor pathogenesis/clinical presentation, 6 to imaging, 44 to therapy (15 chemotherapy, 10 radiotherapy, 5 surgery, 14 new agents). We propose a model for an evolving citation network that incorporates the citation pattern followed in a particular discipline. We define the citation pattern in a discipline by three factors. The average number of references per article, the probability of citing an article based on it's age and the number of citations it already has. We also consider the average number of articles published per year in the discipline. We propose that the probability of citing an article based on it's age can be modeled by a lifetime distribution. The lifetime distribution models the citation lifetime of an average article in a particular discipline. We find that the citation lifetime distribution in a particular discipline predicts the topological structure of the citation network in that discipline. We show that the power law exponent depends on the three factors that define the citation pattern. Finally we fit the data from the Physical Review D journal to obtain the citation pattern and calculate the total degree distribution for the citation network.

Captivating your audience such that they read your entire article is art. Expressing ideas precisely in a systematic sequence and a logical structure is…science. It takes practice, effort, and time to write well-any sentence can take what seems like hours. The immediate reward for all your toil and trouble is when an editor accepts your manuscript. You have to communicate your research: if you are not writing, you are not working. Editors publish work that is original, important, clear, and relevant to their journal and reject papers that don't meet these criteria. Science (2014) rejects 93% of the manuscripts it receives. The rejection rate is increasing across all journals (Kamat and Schaltz, 2014). The first hurdle in the publishing process is getting past editorial assistants, who check for English quality, topic suitability, figure format, plagiarism, and overall look. Only one in five submissions gets to the editor (Science, 2014). This book will help you get past editorial assistants. We anticipate that it will also help convince the editor, the second hurdle, to send your work for review. Editors check the abstract, introduction, conclusions, and pertinence of the references. The letter to the editor describes why the work is important, how it is original, and why you are sending it to the journal you have selected (Soares and Thomas, 2014). If you don't address these points, your chances that the editor will take the time to send the manuscript to reviewers are slim. The reviewers are the final hurdle: They examine the scientific content and consider how well you wrote the paper. The Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer (BSD) Conjecture is one of the most profound unsolved problems in modern number theory, linking the arithmetic properties of elliptic curves to the behavior of their L-functions at. The conjecture asserts that the rank of an elliptic curve over is determined by the order of the zero of its L-function at this critical point. A full proof of BSD would have far-reaching consequences, impacting areas such as Diophantine geometry, algebraic number theory, and cryptography.

Наш доклад посвящён изучению рукописного наследия китаиста В.М. Алексеева (1881–1951) как источника для реконструкции и анализа его сравнительных исследований Востока и Запада. Труды Алексеева заложили основу для дальнейшего развития сравнительного литературоведения, рассматривающего диалог культур. Важными источниками для понимания его подхода являются архивные документы – письма, дневники и полевые записи, фиксирующие
размышления учёного о межкультурных контактах и его наблюдения во время путешествий. Рукописные архивы Алексеева, включая материалы, собранные в ходе экспедиций в Китай, предоставляют ценные свидетельства его работы
с китайскими информантами и литературными источниками. Несмотря на то, что значительная часть архивных документов остаётся непереведённой и неоцифрованной, дневники и письма Алексеева, уже введённые в научный оборот,
способствуют не только исследованию специфики восточной и западной поэзии, но и развитию методологии сравнительного литературоведения в целом.

To analyze ethical standards considered by health-related scientific journals, and to prepare the Ethics Requirement Score, a bibliometric index to be applied to scientific healthcare journals in order to evaluate criteria for ethics in scientific publication. Methods: Journals related to healthcare selected by the Journal of Citation Reports™ 2010 database were considered as experimental units. Parameters related to publication ethics were analyzed for each journal. These parameters were acquired by analyzing the author's guidelines or instructions in each journal website. The parameters considered were approval by an Internal Review Board, Declaration of Helsinki or Resolution 196/96, recommendations on plagiarism, need for application of Informed Consent Forms with the volunteers, declaration of confidentiality of patients, record in the database for clinical trials (if applicable), conflict of interest disclosure, and funding sources statement. Each item was analyzed considering their presence or absence. Result: The foreign journals had a significantly higher Impact Factor than the Brazilian journals, however, no significant results were observed in relation to the Ethics Requirement Score. There was no correlation between the Ethics Requirement Score and the Impact Factor. Conclusion: Although the Impact Factor of foreigner journals was considerably higher than that of the Brazilian publications, the results showed that the Impact Factor has no correlation with the proposed score. This allows us to state that the ethical requirements for publication in biomedical journals are not related to the comprehensiveness or scope of the journal.

Background To date, there is no coordinated strategy for end-of-life (EOL) cancer care research in Europe. The PRISMA (Reflecting the Positive Diversities of European Priorities for Research and Measurement in End-of-life Care) project is aiming to develop a programme integrating research and measurement in EOL care. This survey aimed to map and describe present EOL cancer care research in Europe and to identify priorities and barriers. Material and methods A questionnaire of 62 questions was developed and 201 researchers in 41 European countries were invited to complete it online in May 2009. An open invitation to participate was posted on the internet. Results Invited contacts in 36 countries sent 127 replies; eight additional responses came through websites. A total of 127 responses were eligible for analysis. Respondents were 69 male and 58 female, mean age 49 (28-74) years; 85% of the scientific team leaders were physicians. Seventy-one of 127 research groups were located in a teaching hospital or cancer centre. Forty-five percent of the groups had only one to five members and 28% six to ten members. Sixty-three of 92 groups reported specific funding for EOL care research. Seventy-five percent of the groups had published papers in journals with impact factor ≤5 in the last 3 years; 8% had published in journals with impact factor >10. Forty-four out of 90 groups reported at least one completed Ph.D. in the last 3 years. The most frequently reported active research areas were pain, assessment and measurement tools, and last days of life and quality of death. Very similar areas-last days of life and quality of death, pain, fatigue and cachexia, and assessment and measurement tools-were ranked as the most important research priorities. The most important research barriers were lack of funding, lack of time, and insufficient knowledge/expertise. Conclusions Most research groups in EOL care are small. Objetivo. El artículo presenta una visión general de la producción científica de los temas más relevantes y emergentes sobre los procesos editoriales en revistas científicas. Bases teóricas: La teoría de la comunicación científica y el modelo de revisión por pares son centrales para entender cómo se valida y difunde el conocimiento. La ética en la investigación científica proporciona un marco para evaluar la integridad y transparencia en los procesos editoriales. Además, se consideran teorías sobre la diversidad en la producción científica y se explora las implicaciones de la tecnología en la publicación académica, incluyendo el acceso abierto y las herramientas digitales para la gestión editorial. Método. La metodología consistió en el análisis de indicadores bibliométricos apoyado en Scopus y utilizando herramientas como Microsoft® Excel® y VOSviewer versión 1.6.19 para el procesamiento de la información Resultados. Los resultados muestran entre 1990 y 2023 mostró una tendencia exponencial, con un R² del 24,75%, siendo 2022 el año más productivo. España lideró con un 21%, seguida por Brasil con un 15%. Cinco revistas prominentes contribuyeron en un 22%. La autoría varió notablemente, con el 33% de los trabajos escritos por dos autores. Entre los citados destacan trabajos sobre revisión por pares y diversidad en la revisión. Se identificaron 15 autores colaboradores y palabras clave como "article" "open access," y "peer review. Conclusiones. Se concluye que los procesos editoriales en las revistas científicas tienen un papel esencial en la validación y difusión del conocimiento científico y que sus prácticas deben estar enfatizadas en la revisión por pares, la ética en la investigación, las diferencias de género en la autoría, la tecnología, y otros aspectos relevantes en el ámbito de la publicación y comunicación científica.

Background
Bone marrow and stem cell transplantation have led to significant advancements in modern medicine, offering potential cures for various hematological disorders and specific cancers. This study aims to investigate and analyze research in this field using altmetrics in a world outside the academic scholarly and publishing environment.
Methods
This study examines articles in the field of bone marrow and stem cell transplantation in a ten-year period (2013–2022) extracted from the Web of Science database. The Altmetric Explorer database and tool were used to extract data. After an initial review of the data for their completeness and accuracy, the study considered descriptive reports, statistical analyses, bibliometric network analysis, and overlaps between articles, journals, and research centers in terms of the Altmetric Attention Score (AAS) and citations using Excel, SPSS, Python, R, and VOSviewer.
Result
This study evaluated 12924 articles published in 293 journals. Findings show that 85.67% of the articles were mentioned at least once on various social media and their tools. The AAS varied between 0 and 1125, and the median of this score was 2. The highest score was assigned to an article that provides critical insights into the outcomes of patients with refractory diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). Mendeley, X (formerly Twitter), and News were the most important and active social tools, respectively, where these articles were mentioned. The highest number of tweets, news stories, Facebook posts, and policy documents were from the USA, USA, USA, and UK, respectively. The @PaperbirdsM and @MayoClinic accounts on X had the highest tweet and follower statistics, respectively. The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center also had the highest number of mentions on social networks. Network analysis maps of the top AAS articles showed “Stem Cell Transplantation” as the most popular author keyword, with Blood having the most influence at the journal level, the USA at the country level, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center at the research center level, and Kenneth C. Anderson at the author level. Finally, the results of the tests showed a significant correlation between citation and Altmetric indicators/AAS. However, nor were there differences in AAS based on the open access status of articles or the journal quartile.
Conclusion
A high percentage of articles in this field are present on social networks and platforms. Furthermore, highly cited articles on social media have attracted more attention. Both traditional and web-based metrics offer different perspectives on scholarly impact. While each provides valuable insights, further research is needed to explore how these metrics can be effectively combined for a more comprehensive evaluation of scientific outputs.
