Multimedia Usability Evaluation

In recent years, there is a tremendous proliferation and growth in the development of mobile applications. An important aspect in the advancement of this technology is the usability evaluation of these mobile applications. In this study, a laboratory-based mobile usability assessment was conducted on the Amazon Kindle e-book reader app using 15 users who performed five tasks on the mobile app. A post-test questionnaire was administered to capture users’ perception of the mobile usability of the app. The outcomes show that most of the participants were satisfied and delighted with the services offered by the app. On all the four user experience factors evaluated, that is, perceived ease-of-use, perceived visibility, perceived enjoyability, and perceived efficiency, the outcome shows that the participants had an excellent mobile experience with the app.

Hospital Management is a complex and dynamic organisational challenge. Hospital managers (HMs) are responsible for the effective use of valuable resources and assets, which is a significant issue in healthcare. Due to factors such as the increase in health care costs and political pressure, HMs have been compelled to examine new ways to improve efficiency and reduce healthcare delivery costs whilst improving patient satisfaction. Healthcare managers require tools that will allow them to review the current system or identify areas of improvement and quantify the possible changes. This paper covers an evaluation of a hospital simulator developed by the authors. A usability test of the simulator was carried out with hospital managers to provide real-world feedback on the simulator. This has provided lessons to be applied in the development and use of such a tool. For instance, use of traffic light colours in assisting management of hospital areas and Sensitivity Analysis supporting multiple or more complex scenarios.

Abstract— With the advent of the digital architecture era that features the combination of “traditional architectural art elements” and “digital technology”, we need to deconstruct the texture and color of the ancient village building surface materials and architectural components design characteristics, and reconstruct a standardized, modular, information-based digital model to form the digital language. As a result, the cultural and artistic elements of the ancient village architecture in Hebei Province can be fully preserved and even extended in various forms in contemporary architectural design. The design and restoration of the digital architectural model system provide a new way to display and preserve the architectural heritage of ancient villages.

Usability evaluation methods have gained a substantial attention in networks particularly in Intrusion Detection System (IDS) as these evaluation methods are envisioned to achieve usability and define usability defects for a large number of practical software’s. Despite a good number of available survey and methods on usability evaluation, we feel that there is a gap in existing literature in terms of usability evaluation methods, IDS interfaces and following usability guidelines in IDS development. This may not provide confidence on the side of the evaluator and the results may not be comprehensive and valid. A model for evaluating the usability of mobile banking applications interface is developed in response to usability practitioners and mbanking applications developers' needs. The experts implemented the model using various m-banking application platforms through heuristic evaluation method. A list of predefined validation measures were used by the experts' in order to determine the accuracy and applicability of the proposed model. The results show that the model is useful, accurate and can be used for evaluating the usability of m-banking applications interface. Therefore, this paper will benefit both the research community and the usability practitioners towards better understanding of model validation process.

Selama ini laporan perawatan dan perbaikan mobil di Politeknik Kampar belum tercatat dengan baik, sehingga tidak tersedia riwayat  perawatan dan perbaikan dari masing-masing mobil, dimana  hal tersebut akan menimbulkan masalah dikemudian hari. Untuk mengatasi masalah diatas perlu dibuat sistem baru ke sistem lama dengan judul “Sistem Informasi Perawatan dan Perbaikan Mobil di Politeknik Kampar”. Dengan adanya sistem ini pengguna bisa melihat jenis perawatan dan perbaikan terhadap mobil tersebut, karena pada sistem ini terdapat riwayat  perawatan dan perbaikan mobil yang tercatat dengan baik dan dapat di lihat oleh semua pengguna dalam jangka lama. Augmented reality sandbox adds new dimensions to education and learning process. It can be a core component of geoscience teaching and learning to understand the geographic contexts and landform processes. Augmented reality sandbox is a useful tool not only to create an interactive learning environment through spatial visualization but also it can provide an active learning experience to students and enhances the cognition process of learning. Augmented reality sandbox can be used as an interactive learning tool to teach geomorphic and landform processes. This article explains the augmented reality sandbox and the constructivism approach for geoscience teaching and learning, and endeavours to explore the ways to teach the geographic processes using the three-dimensional digital environment for the deep learning of the geoscience concepts interactively.

A philosophical work in flux, it is described as a kind of science (or logic) of difficulty with an underpinning that promotes the generic greater good in usability per se.

This chapter addresses the development of students' technical thinking using modern technological tools. The aim of the chapter is to show for academics of technical subjects how to increase the efficiency of the learning process with the help of ICT according to the realization of the requirements of the basic principles of didactics. Emphasis is placed on the need for consistency between general education and higher education institutions (HEI) in designing and developing technical thinking and the structure of the technical thinking and its components and how different components of thinking vary in different learning methods. Cognitive Ergonomics is a discipline that contributes with its knowledge to construct better machines in the sense of being easier to use by human beings. Cognitive Ergonomists perform a cognitive analysis of interaction to: (1) shorten the time to accomplish interaction tasks; (2) reduce the number of mistakes made by humans; (3) reduce learning time; and (4) improve people's satisfaction with a system. An appropriate methodology for performing this cognitive analysis of interaction could be based on what I call the "Principle of Mutual Dependency" (Cañas et al 2004). TARCApp mobile application is an application used by Tunku Abdul Rahman UniversityCollege students on a daily basis to access necessary resources. Therefore, this study attempts to evaluate the usability of the application by comparing with the Concordia mobile application from the aspects of effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction. Instruments such as Test Task, Single Ease Question (SEQ) and Software Usability Scale (SUS) questionnaires have been used to measure the usability of these mobile applications. Results indicate that the TARCAppmobile application had high degree of effectiveness and efficiency. Privacy is a major concern of SNS (social networking site) users. Users' profiles contain a large amount of personal information, and most users want to control who has access to this information. However, many SNS users report difficulties in managing their privacy settings. We conducted an online user experiment to systematically evaluate the behavioral and attitudinal effects of several design parameters of a SNS privacy settings interface. We show that the granularity of categories, the possibility to make exceptions, the default setting, and the order in which categories are being presented have strong effects on users' evaluation of the system as well as their sharing behavior. Particularly, an interface that allows users to categorize their contacts into a small number of categories, that is set to shared-by-default, but that allows users to make exceptions for specific contacts results in the highest level of sharing and the highest user satisfaction.

User Centered Design is an important aspect of any product to e valuate its success in the market, where there is an abundance of product of similar functionalities. The software products are moving towards the phase where the end user can take the blocks of software, customize and build their own products. This adds more emphasize on the role of UCD in the product development. Many a time, the process for providing a good user experience is treated separate from the process of developing the product or software. There is an increased awareness that the two process need to integrate and proceed hand in hand for success of the product. This paper investigates and proposes the integration model for different development models with the User Centered Design process.

Through investment strategies that bet on educational quality, the Colombian government provides mobile devices to the country's schools. However, the mobile applications in these devices need themes according to the context and educational level, usability, and UX/ UI design. They do not promote an improvement in the teaching-learning process. The present work proposes a model so that non-programming teachers can develop mobile educational applications that generate in the student a good "user experience" with high rates of efficiency and satisfaction, and ease of learning. This descriptive study is applied in 10 public educational institutions. After evaluating 3 mobile educational applications with 20 students, it is obtained that the application that emanates from this model presents satisfactory results in each of the metrics that measure usability, where it obtained an efficiency of 88%; likewise, it was the most efficient and the one with the highest level of satisfaction with 82 points. In conclusion, the development model presented is functional, promotes the design of attractive educational mobile applications, uses techno-pedagogical elements, and responds to the needs of the academic context that requires it.

Geographical Information System (GIS) modelling using vector data is a commonly used method of modelling offering simple data input and analysis. However, the vector-data model assumes homogeneity in mapping units based on subjectively consequent reduction in the variety of information obtained and uncertainty in the results. This study tests and measures the usability of mudah.my mobile application in terms of its efficiency, effectiveness, and satisfaction. Ten participants conscripted for the study performed five tasks on the application's interface. A summative usability evaluation based on user performance and perception was carried out. The usability testing was conducted at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) and the results obtained show that the Mudah.my mobile application is easy to use and consistent as seen from the analysis and observations made. However, the app is laden with some usability issues that should necessitate improvement. The study's outcome will benefit developers and usability engineers in providing a user-friendly and usable application that meets users' needs.

The upsurge in the use of mobile devices worldwide has led to an increasing number of mobile apps developed and available in the market today. This makes the mobile usability of these apps an important issue to consider. This study evaluates the mobile usability of Amila Pregnancy app, a mobile assistive app for pregnant women and expectant mothers. The paper reports on the outcome of a mobile usability evaluation for Amila Pregnancy app. In the study, five usability qualities were evaluated in line with the Jakob Nielsen’s usability principles, these are, inter alia: effectiveness, efficiency, learnability, memorability and satisfaction. The outcome shows the trouble mobile users had in understanding displayed icon, locating the information provided, re-finding it and in navigating through the mobile app. In conclusion, the study recommends that the main menu of the app be further improved upon to boost its usability.

Pandemik COVID-19 yang terjadi saat ini mempengaruhi banyak aspek kehidupan termasuk pendidikan, dimana pembelajaran dilakukan dari rumah untuk mengurangi resiko penularan virus corona dengan menerapkan e-learning. Hal ini yang membuat implementasi e-learning harus baik, oleh karenanya harus dilakukan evaluasi agar e-learning mudah digunakan. Salah satu aspek penting yang harus dievaluasi yakni dari sisi usability-nya dimana dapat diketahui kepuasan pengguna dari sisi “kebergunaan”nya.
