Аннотация: В статье анализируются дискурсивные функции разговорных плеонастических конструкций где территориально и когда по времени. На основе данных корпусов НКРЯ и ruTenTen2017 показывается, что эти выражения, несмотря на свою стилистическую небезупречность и семантическую избыточность, играют важную коммуникативную роль в высказывании. В отличие от местоименных конструкций с частицей именно (где именно, когда именно), их функция – не уточнение, а конкретизация более общего параметра. В вопросах они позволяют говорящему точно сигнализировать тип ожидаемой информации – указание на место или время, выраженное в абсолютных терминах, т.е. с указанием на конкретную территорию и точное время (на Пречистенке, в Северной Финляндии, завтра в час; 18 сентября в 12:30). В утверждениях подобные плеонастические конструкции служат контрастным средством фокусировки внимания адресата на том, о чем пойдет речь в дальнейшем высказывании. Аналогичные плеоназмы обнаруживаются в других языках, что позволяет говорить о более общем дискурсивном механизме. Функционально эти конструкции встраиваются в более широкий пласт коммуникативных средств, которые используются в начале клаузы для сигнализации ее дальнейшего содержания.

Abstract: The article analyzes the discourse functions of the conversational pleonastic constructions gde territorial’no (‘where geographically’) and kogda po vremeni (‘when in terms of time’). Based on data from the Russian National Corpus (RNC) and ruTenTen2017, we  demonstrate that these expressions, despite their stylistic imperfection and semantic redundancy, play an important communicative role. Unlike pronominal constructions with the particle imenno  (‘exactly’), such as gde imenno (‘where exactly’) or kogda imenno (‘when exactly’), their function is not specification, but concretization of a more general parameter. In questions, they allow speakers to clearly signal the expected type of information – a reference to place or time expressed in absolute terms, i.e., specifying a concrete location or exact time (e.g., ‘on Prechistenka Street’, ‘in Northern Finland’, ‘tomorrow at one o’clock’, ‘September 18 at 12:30’). In statements, such pleonastic constructions serve as a contrastive means of focusing the addressee’s attention on what is to follow in the utterance. Similar pleonasms are found in other languages, suggesting a more general discourse mechanism. Functionally, these constructions are part of a broader set of communicative tools used at the beginning of a clause to signal its upcoming content.

This article presents an analysis of serial verb constructions in Wa'ikhana, an East Tukanoan language, from a usage-based constructionist perspective. Four kinds of serializations are identified and described. One of them-a serialization with the verb duku 'stand'-is analyzed in more detail, since not only does this construction have a more grammaticalized meaning, but also it has one instance yauduku (yau 'talk/tell' + duku 'stand') that has already become a new node in the constructicon, i.e., that constitutes a new lexical construction.

Based on the view of Cognitive Linguistics (CL) as a heterogeneous and constantly expanding theoretical field that investigates the relationship between language and cognition, this text discusses the properties that unify its different theories and frameworks. Originally centered on the conceptual motivation of grammar, CL has come to encompass discursive, literary, and usage-based studies-all while maintaining a consistent focus on domain-general cognitive operations. We also show how Professor Lilian Ferrari's academic trajectory, which mirrors the field of Cognitive Linguistics insofar as it combines unity and diversity, played a crucial role in advancing the cognitive enterprise in Brazil, both in theoretical and institutional terms.

com diferentes graus de idiomaticidade. Este capítulo dá destaque
a combinações phrasal verbs a fim de estabelecer uma relação com a
construção resultativa e a construção de movimento causado.
Apesar de apresentarem restrições de natureza sintática e/ou
semântica, o que as coloca em lugares distintos de representação
gramatical, a análise das três construções evidencia uma clara
relação entre os três pareamentos.

One line of research in constructional analysis has supported (on occasion controversially – cf. Boas 2005; Goldberg & Jackendoff 2005) an upgraded role for lexical constructions headed by verbs, since verb senses are often associated with idiosyncratic properties that are not derivable from their interaction with grammatical constructions (e.g., Croft 2003; Boas 2008, 2013; Nemoto 2005). As per Boas (2013: 191), “individual verb senses should be regarded as mini-constructions with their own frame-semantic, pragmatic, and syntactic specifications whenever abstract meaningful constructions overgenerate”. Such approaches descriptively tally with a long line of earlier (e.g., Atkins 1987; Fillmore & Atkins 1992; Hanks 1996) and more recent work (e.g., Gries 2006; Berez & Gries 2008; Jansegers & Gries 2017; Hilpert 2008, 2016), which takes verbal polysemy as inhering in, and correlating with, all kinds of syntactic, morphological, and lexico-semantic features. Talmy (2000) describes force dynamics as a conceptual category that captures how entities interact with respect to applying force, resisting or overcoming force, blocking force, or removing blockage. In language, force dynamics manifests itself both in lexical elements and in grammatical structures. Widely discussed examples of the latter include causative constructions and modal auxiliaries. This paper argues that force-dynamic meanings are present in a number of syntactic constructions in English that have up to this point received little or no attention with regard to this conceptual category. On the basis of corpus data from the coca (Davies 2008) and collostructional analysis (Stefanowitsch and Gries 2003), it is shown that force dynamics characterize the constructional meaning of English object-to-subject raising (Mair 1987, Langacker 1995), subject complement clauses with ing-forms (Hilpert 2010), and the split infinitive construction (Huddleston and Pullum 2002, Perales-Escudero 2010). Collostructional analyses indicate that the three construction types are systematically associated with networks of force-dynamic scenarios that are organized in a semantic map. In addition, the three constructions exhibit coercion effects in which they impose their meanings on lexical elements that are themselves not inherently force-dynamic. These findings are discussed in terms of their implications for current usage-based network models of language (Diessel 2019, 2023, Schmid 2020).

This study analyzes the English comparative alternation (morphological prouder and periphrastic more proud) with regard to adjective-specific variability. Substantial empirical evidence indicates that speakers redundantly represent both abstract schemas (e.g., ADJ +-er) and their specific instantiations (e.g., prouder) as symbolic units, which together constitute a network of constructions at different levels of schematicity. Against this background, we offer a re-analysis of data from (Hilpert, Martin. 2008. The English comparative-Language structure and use. English Language & Linguistics 12(3). 395-417), which yields new results on the basis of a mixed-effects (multi-level) model that incorporates individual adjectives as random effects. The results demonstrate robust lexical idiosyncrasies in this alternation. First, many adjectives exhibit tendencies that deviate from the general conditioning factors incorporated as fixed effects. Furthermore, frequency of adjectives in comparative forms positively correlates with the degree of skewness. In other words, the more an adjective is used in comparative forms, the stronger its preference becomes, regardless of the direction of the preference. These findings support the idea that competition between linguistic forms occurs across different levels of schematicity: at the schematic level, the competition between variants is governed by probabilistic factors, while at the lexically specific level, the conventionalization of concrete forms can override these factors.

The thesis focuses on the Ukrainian translation of BBC English-language Internet news headlines from a linguistic rhetoric perspective.
The paper explains the Ukrainian rendering of English-language news discourse headlines through translational rhetorical cognitive patterns treated as stable mental templates for interpreting morphosyntactic constructions entrenched in the human memory as combinations of form and meaning. The constructions fall into item-based, remaining unchanged in the headlines in both languages and mainly represented by initialisms; lexicalized, combining two elements: main, which is fixed, and dependent, which is non-fixed; and grammaticalized, multicomponental structures denoting relations between referents by words belonging to different classes. The constructions as the basic units of translation fill in three rhetorical positions of the original and translated headlines: attention-grabbing, attention-keeping, and nudging to reading the text.
In linguistic rhetorical terms, the patterns of translating English-language Internet news headlines into Ukrainian fall into two types: elocutional-inventional, which determine the coding of the message content with the help of morphosyntactic constructions; and elocutional-dispositional, involving changes in positioning morphosyntactic structures to denote referents in the original and in the translation.
Translational elocutional-inventional patterns fall into three types: universal, rendering all types of constructions; common, interpreting only several types of constructions; and distinctive, specific for a particular type of structures.
Universal elocutional-inventional translational patterns entail equivalent and extended types. The universal equivalent patterns of translating English item-based constructions encompass Latinized and Cyrillic types. Lexicalized constructions are rendered according to the onymic, attributive-appellative and quantificational-appellative patterns. Grammaticalized structures are reproduced with respect to their meaning: existential, transitive, dynamic-spatial, characterizing, and specifying. Universal asymmetric translational patterns presuppose the expansion of item-based constructions by adding the second part of a compound word, another component or an apposition. The translated equivalents of lexicalized structures are extended by one, two or more elements. The Ukrainian equivalents of grammaticalized structures are expanded with verbs, adverbs, or subordinate adjectival structures.
Common elocutional-inventional translational patterns entail metonymic, employed to translate item-based and grammaticalized constructions; and grammaticalized prepositional structures rendering item-based and lexicalized constructions.
Distinctive elocutional-inventional patterns of translation are meant to render all three types of constructions: item-based, which are subject to lexicalization; lexicalized, interpreted by recategorizing the meaning of their components; and grammaticalized, translated according to mixed patterns concerning equivalent and asymmetrical translation of grammaticalized spatial and modal structures.
Elocutional-dispositional patterns involve a perspectivation switch in depicting an event in translation or moving the reproduced structure to a different position in a Ukrainian headline.
The translation of original lexicalized structures is accompanied by two variants of perspectivation switch: the first variant, employed in the attention-grabbing positions in the headlines in both languages, is a change in representing individuals from their social status to nationality, from nationality to religious affiliation, from domestic portrayal of organizations to international; the second variant in the headline nudging position is shifting the focus from the aftermath of an event to its course. The translation with a perspective switch is applied to five types of grammaticalized constructions: Subject-Predicate, transitive, characterizing, spatial, and modal. In the Ukrainian translation, Subject-Predicate constructions of the original are rendered with a perspective switch from agents to patients or the results of their activity; or from patients to agents. Transitive constructions are translated with a perspective switch from the event to its termination, or from human emotions to the initial stage of an incident. The translation of characterizing constructions depends on their type.  Adjectival structures are reproduced with a perspective switch from a person's age to their social/personal features. The appositive structures shift perspective from a celebrity's occupation to their family status/artistic characteristics rendered by lexicalized constructions. The subordinate adjectival structures replace the description of an individual’s behavior by reference to their personal features denoted by different types of constructions. Spatial structures of the original are translated with a perspective switch to the event itself, whereas modal constructions change the semantics from the aftermath of an event to its beginning in the translation being rendered with either modal or non-transitive structures. With the ellipsis pattern, the perspective of content presentation in the translation switches due to removing from Ukrainian headlines equivalents of item-based and lexicalized structures, which are moved to the introduction or text body of the rendered news while the equivalents of grammaticalized Subject-Predicate structures are transferred to the text body of the news or represented by subjects in the Ukrainian headline.
The prospects of further research lie in singling out the translational patterns for constructional syntagmatic relations in the texts of online news of other English-language discourses.

This paper examines the revolutionary impact of Noam Chomsky's generative grammar on our understanding of human language capacity. Beginning with the publication of Syntactic Structures in 1957, generative linguistics fundamentally transformed the conceptualization of language from learned behavior to an innate cognitive architecture. Through analysis of key theoretical developments-from the Standard Theory through the Minimalist Program-this study demonstrates how generative grammar redefined language as a species-specific biological endowment characterized by universal principles and parametric variation. The paper explores empirical evidence from language acquisition, cross-linguistic typology, and neurolinguistics while addressing major criticisms from usage-based and emergentist approaches. The analysis reveals that generative grammar's core insight-that humans possess an innate language faculty-continues to influence contemporary research in cognitive science, artificial intelligence, and evolutionary biology, establishing language as a unique window into the computational architecture of mind.

This entry presents the state-of-the-art of research into the pathways of subjectification and intersubjectification across language histories. First, I detail the various ways in which these processes have been conceptualized by scholars. Second, I critically examine the evidence for diachronic connections between subjectification and intersubjectification and a lack thereof. Third and finally, I explore the ways in which the pathways of (inter)subjectification should undergo wider diachronic typological study, especially based on corpus evidence from language histories other than English.

Este estudio analiza las prácticas de lectura académica digital de estudiantes venezolanos de Educación Media. Basada en la Teoría de la Acción Comunicativa de Habermas y los Nuevos Estudios de Literacidad, la investigación analiza el perfil de acceso y lectura digital de estos estudiantes en sus prácticas académicas. Metodológicamente, se basó en un enfoque cualitativo, crítico-interpretativo, involucrando a 19 estudiantes de una institución pública ubicada en Las Calderas, Estado Falcón - Venezuela. Se utilizó un cuestionario de 18 preguntas como herramienta de investigación, con el objetivo de identificar las prácticas de lectura académica digital realizadas por los estudiantes en el contexto escolar. Para el análisis e interpretación de la información, se empleó la hermenéutica crítica bajo la concepción habermasiana, partiendo de la idea de momentos hermenéuticos: preconcepto, comprensión, interpretación y autocomprensión – reflexión. Los resultados indican que los estudiantes acceden a las tecnologías digitales, especialmente teléfonos inteligentes y computadoras, pero realizan estas prácticas principalmente en el hogar, siendo la escuela un espacio secundario. Si bien los estudiantes demuestran hiperconexión, ampliando el alcance del aprendizaje escolar a través de actividades de lectura y navegación en internet, se argumenta que las escuelas deben asumir un papel central y crítico, reflexionando sobre los discursos en línea y fortaleciendo la literacidad académica digital.

Cuando pensamos en el lenguaje, con frecuencia nos enfrentamos a una diversidad de problemas de investigación, pero también a equívocos y a falsos dilemas. Por ejemplo, tendemos a asumir que sabemos de qué hablamos, como si el fenómeno del lenguaje humano fuese diáfano para todas los comunidades científicas y discursivas, o como si todos lo entendiéramos de igual manera. También se piensa en ocasiones que es un tema de investigación que está superado o agotado, debido a que gran parte del siglo xx se dedicó a su estudio y a que esto produjo un influjo en múltiples disciplinas. Asimismo, algunos piensan hoy que el único debate relevante es el de la inteligencia artificial y cómo ha logrado, en los últimos años, producir enunciados y textos que imitan las construcciones más frecuentes de hablantes de algunas lenguas naturales, a partir de inmensos corpus de textos tomados principalmente de internet.

Температура и явления, связанные с ней, имеют огромное значение в жизни человека и природы. Языки мира выработали для их описания различные, иногда специализированные лексические и грамматические средства в языках мира. В отношении албанского языка до настоящего момента не существует подробного описания температурных конструкций. Наше исследование представляет собой одну из первых попыток отразить лексическое и грамматическое устройство имеющихся способов выражения температуры в современном албанском языке в соответствии с классификацией температурных конструкций, предложенной в [Koptjevskaja-Tamm 2015].

Le présent article étudie les emplois de donc au sein de l’expression des modalités énonciatives. Ainsi, nous montrons que ces usages produisent des effets spécifiques et subjectifs dans les romans de Francis Bebey en raison de la reprise de ces mêmes techniques stylistiques de l’écriture. Notre objectif sera de les décrire en fonction de chaque procédé modal. Cela permettra de prouver que cet auteur emploie couramment la complétive et les modalité injonctive, interrogative et assertive avec le coordonnant « donc » comme des faits stylistiques de son écriture. Associés à chacune de ces modalités énonciatives, le coordonnant « donc » crée les usages spécifiques comme interactif, confirmatif, discursif, illocutoire, perlocutoire et consécutif. Pour les décrire objectivement, nous servons des approches de la stylistique de la phrase et de la linguistique pragmatique. Ces doubles approches nous aideront à conclure que les emplois de donc ont les valeurs énonciatives, stylistiques et pragmatiques au coeur de l’écriture de Francis Bebey.

The present paper investigates a constructional alternation currently under development in Mozambican Portuguese, arising from the constructionalization of a new passive construction (Recipient passives) alongside its standard counterpart (Theme passives). We argue that beyond the influence of the Bantu substrate that led to the emergence of the innovative variant, variation is conceptually and pragmatically motivated and involves restructuring in accordance with the structural constraints of Portuguese. We show how the alternation proves sensitive to a set of linguistic factors, the most prominent of which are related to information structure and differences in perspectivization, or construal. By adopting a sociocognitive view of language and a network view of grammar, we aim to illustrate the multidimensionality of restructuration and indigenization processes taking place in postcolonial varieties of pluricentric languages in the sequence of their nativization.

Back-formation is defined as a type of morphological change in which a base word is created ex novo paralleling an extant morphological alternation that serves as a model as in the verb to televise from the noun television. This analogical procedure is generally held to aim at increasing paradigm regularity. In this survey, several questions will be discussed with respect to the nature, the extension and the inner motivation of back-formation as well as its generalizability as a mechanism for language modeling and change.

A pandemia da COVID-19 trouxe danos ainda não reparados para a sociedade, afetando variados espaços antes ocupados por indivíduos que, com exceções, nunca haviam experienciado a força avassaladora de um vírus cujo espraiamento exponencial vinha sem precedentes para as gerações atuais. Dentre as inúmeras consequências, destacam-se as perdas humanas, políticas e econômicas, que continuam a afetar as dinâmicas concernentes ao trato social. O ambiente escolar, inicialmente, passeou por telas durante as lições virtuais, se misturou com o presencial no ensino híbrido e voltou ao encontro frente a frente com professores e colegas de turma, mas algumas coisas nunca mais serão as mesmas. Para o corpo docente, que também vivenciava uma situação ainda sem precedentes, foi uma verdadeira corrida em busca de metodologias inovadoras que dessem conta de todas as limitações que a falta de contato presencial impunha (Conserva et al, 2020; Amorim e Gomes, 2020; Oliveira et ali. 2021; Furtado, et al, 2022). Desse cenário, uma necessidade emergiu: aprender novas abordagens e metodologias, com ou sem o apoio da tecnologia ou de treinamentos, da noite para o dia. Tal demanda surgiu como uma avalanche, um desastre natural a ser interceptado para que pudéssemos continuar o processo educacional dentro de uma realidade com perspectivas duvidosas. Na ausência de recursos e suporte econômico, político e/ou mental, muitas instituições ficaram de mãos atadas e não puderam dar prosseguimento até que houvesse algum tipo de garantia. Ainda sem certeza da eficácia, algumas escolas adotaram novos modelos de educação. Ao longo de um período que durou cerca de dois anos, menos ou mais para algumas instituições, foram adotadas algumas medidas. The topic of the present paper is the modifications that so-called bibleisms or biblical quotations in German and Spanish can undergo, against the background of Construction Grammar, specifically in its cognitive usage-based perspective (Goldberg 2006). After an introductory chapter on bibleisms from a contrastive point of view, I pro- pose to analyze by means of the corpora esTenTen18 and deTenTen20 (Sketch Engine) the variability of the biblical quotation No solo de pan vive el hombre (Matthew 4:4) and its German equivalent Der Mensch lebt nicht vom Brot allein. This example clearly illustrates how register change in the use of a bibleism goes hand in hand with semantic changes that can lead to a process of constructionalization when discourse modifications, i.e., when “anti-proverbs” (Mieder 1982), exceed in frequency the canonical use of the quotation. Within this theoretical framework, the main objective of this paper will be to examine whe- ther Spanish and German are similar, in terms of productivity, in relation to the semi-sche- matic constructions [No solo de X vive el hombre] and [Der Mensch lebt nicht vom X allein].

This study proposes a novel model that conceptualizes meaning as "value evaluation by a subject toward a recognized object." Meaning is understood as a state of equivalent binding among objects (physical entities, concepts, or phenomena), linguistic labels (acoustic or written), and value evaluations recognized by the subject. These value evaluations are dynamically constructed and updated through individual experience and social learning. Multiple evaluations can be equivalently bound to objects in parallel, with the prioritized value evaluation varying according to context and the subject's focus of interest. Specifically, we propose a two-layer structure consisting of "core evaluations" (equivalent bindings with immediate accessibility) that enable social sharing, and "secondary evaluations" (equivalent bindings accessed context-or situation-dependently) that are individual-specific. These equivalent bindings are not fixed but change dynamically through new information and experiences. This model integrates elements from existing theories and provides a unified theory of meaning grounded in cognitive science. It has broad potential applications, ranging from philosophy of language to artificial intelligence.

This article, based on representative corpus data, examines the non-trivial morphosyntactic properties of the experiential predicative vsë ravno (which, as we argue, emerged under Polish influence) in the Russian language from the 17th to the 21st centuries. While the semantic structure of this locution has been described in detail by Leonid Iomdin, its diachronic evolution and the morphosyntactic status of its components have rarely been addressed. It is shown that originally the elements vsë ‘everything’ and ravno ‘equal’ exhibited a high degree of morphosyntactic and prosodic autonomy (in particular, the set of linguistic units that could be inserted between them was remarkably broad), forming at the same time a semantically idiomatic complex. The contradiction between semantic cohesion and morphological autonomy was resolved in the history of Russian through the reduction of the morphosyntactic status of these elements and an increase in the morphological cohesion of the phrase vsë ravno. This process can be considered complete in the modern language for the construction P vsë ravno [čto / kak] Q meaning ‘P is equivalent / equal to Q’ and for the adverbial vsë ravno meaning ‘in any case; anyway’. However, in its original meaning (‘does not matter; no matter’), this unit shows signs of a secondary wordform with incomplete morphologization, especially under negation. In these latter contexts, it is still possible to insert a limited set of other units between vsë and ravno (primarily, the enclitic li and the subject dative forms of personal pronouns). Nevertheless, the tendency towards full morphological integration is clearly manifested even in negative contexts through the gradual “externalization” of these units into postposition: for example, the sequence ne vsë ravno li (+ dative) is particularly frequent in Russian poetry.

The chapter considers the potential role of synsemantic words in Slovak and Russian phraseological constructions with a slot. Initial findings suggest that they may often function as anchors, influencing the overall semantics and pragmatic functions of the respective constructions. The objective of this study is to propose a theoretical and methodological framework for describing the functional, structural, semantic and pragmatic potential of this kind of phraseological constructions, using the example «лишь бы X». The aim is to refine lexicographic description and translation equivalents using quantitative and qualitative analyses.

В настоящей статье рассматриваются дискурсивные функции сочетания как-то так,
которое реализует широкий спектр значений: анафору, дейксис, хезитацию, оценку и суммиро-
вание. Эти функции делятся на референциальные (анафора, дейксис), структурные (суммиро-
вание) и когнитивные (хезитация, оценка). Семантика маркера обусловлена взаимодействием
компонентов: неопределенности, связанной с местоимением как-то, и указательности, связан-
ной с так. Указательная семантика преобладает в анафорических, дейктических и суммиру-
ющих употреблениях, тогда как семантика неопределенности — в хезитативных и оценочных.
Разные функции сопровождаются специфическими синтаксическими, просодическими и даже
жестовыми особенностями. В целом развитие конструкции как-то так проходит путь от ком-
позициональных значений к грамматикализованному дискурсивному маркеру. Такая эволюция
типична для указательных местоимений, но мало описана для сочетаний с неопределенными
местоимениями. Диахронический анализ показывает, что значение суммирования является но-
вейшим, в то время как остальные функции представлены уже в текстах XIX в., где на раннем
этапе преобладало оценочное значение.

The article analyzes discourse functions of the expression kak-to tak (‘kind of like that’), which
encompass anaphora, deixis, hesitation, evaluation, and summation. These functions can be divided
into referential, structural, and cognitive. The semantics of the marker arises from the interaction of
two components: the indefiniteness associated with kak-to (‘somehow’) and the deixis conveyed by
tak (‘like that’). The deictic component dominates in anaphoric, deictic, and summative uses, while
the indefinite component is more prominent in hesitative and evaluative contexts. Each function is associated
with distinct syntactic, prosodic, and even gestural features. The construction kak-to tak exhibits
a development from compositional usages to a grammaticalized discourse marker. While this
evolutionary path is typical for demonstrative pronouns, it is rarely described for combinations involving
indefinite elements. Diachronic analysis shows that the summative function is the most recent,
whereas the other functions are already attested in 19th-century texts, where the evaluative use initially
predominated.

This paper examines the debate between Universal Grammar and Usage-Based Linguistics. Drawing on works by Chomsky, Bybee, Evans and Levinson, and others, it argues that language is best understood as a complex adaptive system shaped by usage, interaction, and culture. The paper concludes that usage-based approaches provide a more accurate account of language acquisition than Universal Grammar.

Many computational models of morphology that do not presuppose hand-coding of input data (i.e., do not draw on model-external linguistic knowledge) use character-based formal representations to account for lexical processing and acquisition. While such models are simple and efficient, they are not without problems. From a cognitive perspective, it remains unclear exactly what, according to these models, is represented in the mental lexicon and how speakers learn sublexical units of linguistic form that do not correspond to traditional morphemes (e.g., English -ceive- or German -tor). From a computational perspective, these models are problematic because their methods of identifying formal units make very limited use of distributional information and neglect the role of task-specificity in language processing. In this paper, we present a new computational model of morphology implementing task-specific linear processing guided by the principles of efficiency and reliability. By analysing data from the nominal number system in German, we show that our model not only outperforms stateof-the-art models but also makes predictions about the emergence of words' internal structure that are consistent with the judgments of German native speakers in a psycholinguistic experiment.

The aim of this paper is to provide an analysis of German particle verbs with the particle weg- ‘away’ as in Tattoos weglasern (lit. ‘to laser tattoos away’ within the framework of Construction Grammar (Goldberg, 1995, 2006; Ziem & Lasch, 2013). The meaning of German weg-verbs often being non-compositional, morpho-lexical approaches turn out to be unable to properly account for the meaning of weg-constructions. The constructionist approach allows us to shed light on the relationship between morphology and syntax within weg-constructions and to account for both lexicalised and non-lexicalised instances of verbs with weg-. The analysis is based on the distinction between transitive and reflexive weg-constructions, which can occur as caused-motion and resultative constructions. The discussion of various variants of the German weg-construction suggests that the weg-constructions under investigation are linked to each other in a family of constructions.

Neste artigo são analisadas as sentenças copulativas do russo e a variação que exibem quanto à estratégia copulativa no tempo presente. Em alguns casos, observa-se o uso da partícula eto, o que alguns estudiosos caracterizam como exclusivo para sentenças equativas, em outros casos, a relação de cópula se dá pela mera justaposição de sintagmas em cadeia linear, o que geralmente é tido como propriedade de sentenças atributivas. Este trabalho aborda o conhecimento linguístico de falantes nativos do idioma, buscando identificar quais contextos de fato propiciam o uso do vocábulo eto. Para isso, foi desenvolvido um experimento denominado julgamento de aceitabilidade em que russos residentes na cidade de Moscou avaliavam sentenças copulativas com e sem o elemento eto. Resultados preliminares indicam que o uso das estratégias adotadas pelos russos para marcar cópula exibe caráter gradiente. Neste artigo, a construção de foco sentencial introduzida pela partícula focalizadora éto em russo é analisada. O arcabouço teórico utilizado para investigar esse tipo de estrutura é o da Gramática de Construções Baseada no Uso. Foram analisadas, considerando-se critérios formais e semântico-pragmáticos, instâncias reais de uso da língua, nas modalidades falada e escrita, extraídas do Corpus Nacional da Língua Russa (CNLR). Postula-se, com base em Sasse (1987, 1996), que as construções de foco sentencial com éto em russo assumem função discursiva explicativa. Além disso, defende-se que as construções em pauta manifestam um elo de herança com a construção relacional do tipo [Éto x], de caráter mais geral, utilizada em contextos diversificados.

This article explores the situation or how the concepts of “child” and “childhood” appear in Kurdish written and oral texts. When it comes to children and childhood, the subject comes into focus from two perspectives; First, the child as a biological phenomenon that has existed since the beginning of human life and has undergone a process of physical development. second, the child as a social concept that here becomes a historical phenomenon; That means, it emerged at a particular stage of human social maturity. The main question of this paper is whether the two concepts of children and childhood have emerged as a biological phenomenon or as a social phenomenon. For this purpose, the researcher has analyzed the subject among the oldest historical and literary texts (poetry) and oral dictionaries (verses and proverbs) and has analyzed these two concepts on dozens of examples in the texts. The results of the study explains that in Kurdish written and oral texts, children and childhood appear more as a biological phenomenon.

Tanto la sintaxis como la semántica –la primera con menos dificulta des que la segunda– se desarrollaron con solidez teórica en el marco del estructuralismo o del generativismo (formalistas en principio y devenidos funcionalistas luego), paradigmas predominantes en la lingüística del siglo XX que recortaron el objeto para examinar, en principio, el sistema de las lenguas. Pero, en las últimas décadas del siglo pasado, se registraron importantes cambios en las ciencias del lenguaje, principalmente dos: el desarrollo de otras disciplinas y el surgimiento de otro paradigma. Por un lado, la lingüística se fue interesando particularmente por el uso de ese sistema, lo que requirió una ampliación de su objeto de estudio, así que, además de examinar los componentes o niveles de descripción a los que atienden las ramas más tradicionales –entre las cuales se cuentan la fonología, la morfología, la sintaxis y semántica–, los investigadores consolidaron indagaciones que exceden el sistema de la lengua para abordar su uso, sobre el que inciden factores e tralingüísticos, sociales y culturales, en nuevas disciplinas (sociolingüística, psicolingüística, pragmática, lingüística del texto, análisis del discurso) que nutrieron los avances en terminología. Por otro, coetáneamente, se fue gestando la lingüística cognitiva –la cual busca deliberadamente correlaciones entre la estructura lingüística, el pensamiento conceptual y la experiencia corpórea–. En su seno, se fueron desarrollando la gramática y la semántica cognitivas, perspectivas asumidas en algunos trabajos de esta publicación. Los dos primeros artículos encaminan sus enunciados observacionales, sus procedimientos de análisis y su procesamiento de conclusiones según las conceptualizaciones de la gramática cognitiva: “Difuminación del agente y focalización del paciente: impersonales de tercera persona del plural, im personales con se y pasivas con se”, de Mariana Morón Usandivaras y Sofía Gutiérrez Böhmer y “La aposición especificativa en el nominal: una construcción postnuclear no intercambiable con el núcleo precedente”, de Cristian Santa Cruz. El tercer artículo, “«Abortos de pensamiento» y «Acuchillado de ideas»: ¿Qué tan creativas son las metáforas literarias?” de M. Araceli Alemán, opera con las categorías generadas por la semántica cognitiva en la teoría de la metáfora conceptual. En “El término en español: una mirada integradora”, de Carlos Mario Pérez Pérez, se brinda un panorama de los estudios terminológicos, ya centenarios, para ofrecer un nuevo enfoque, superador de la disciplina clásica.  Y, el último capítulo,  “Terminología de uso en el área de informática en la educación secund ria técnica”,  Pamela Zamora Bevacqua analiza textos producidos por estudiantes de educación técnica secundaria para acreditar su práctica profesionalizante en el área de informática con el fin de determinar la terminología propia del área.

Las metáforas creativas han sido objeto de especial interés recientemente (Bolognesi y Werkmann Horvat, 2023), asociadas a distintas clases de inteligencia (Silvia y Beaty, 2012), géneros no literarios (Fuoli et al., 2021) y fenómenos como la sinestesia (Turner y Littlemore, 2023). El aspecto creativo ha sido un punto de debate para quienes defienden la continuidad entre el lenguaje literario y el no literario, y quienes defienden lo contrario. Los descubrimientos respecto de que la producción de metáforas creativas supone inhibir tanto el lenguaje literal como el metafórico convencional, así como que implican mayor esfuerzo cognitivo y que efectivamente se procesan por comparación y no por categorización (como algunos sostienen respecto de las metáforas convencionales) pueden ser útiles para el campo de estudio de las metáforas literarias. 
Desde la perspectiva interdisciplinaria de la poética cognitiva, se ponen a prueba estas consideraciones en una serie de metáforas de una novela de Fernanda García Lao (2019), una autora argentina contemporánea, cuyo estilo ha sido destacado por su originalidad. Asimismo, la elección obedece al interés en abordar literatura especulativa o antimimética, a diferencia del amplio corpus de literatura realista estudiado por Dorst (2011). Con un foco cualitativo, se estudian tanto las metáforas que combinan dominios inesperados como aquellas que emplean un mapeo convencional en una forma novedosa a partir de un juego con la forma o con el significado (por ejemplo, introduciendo más detalle, combinando metáforas convencionales o usando una metáfora en un contexto disruptivo). Se trabaja solo con tres dominios meta: las ideas, el lenguaje y la conciencia/subjetividad, y se compara las metáforas del corpus de la autora con otras similares del lenguaje no literario para establecer grados relativos de creatividad. 
En el corpus literario analizado, además de metáforas convencionales, se encontraron metáforas con diversos grados de creatividad. Se destacan las metáforas cuya creatividad radica en su extensión y los juegos con la forma gramatical. Asimismo, se presentan patrones de creatividad basados en sinestesias hiperbólicas que privilegian el tacto como dominio fuente. Se sugiere que el estudio de estas metáforas puede funcionar como una base para la investigación transdisciplinaria de la literatura, empezando por la corporización del lenguaje literario.

espanolLa construccion resultativa ha suscitado el interes de diversos investigadores pertenecientes a diferentes tradiciones, especialmente a las perspectivas formales, funcionales y construccionistas. Nuestra propuesta se ajusta a los principales postulados de las teorias construccionistas de orientacion cognitiva, especialmente a los recogidos en las obras de Goldberg (1995, 2006) y Ruiz de Mendoza y Mairal (2008, 2011). Este es un analisis cualitativo y basado en el uso de algunas realizaciones especificas de la construccion resultativa en que el elemento resultativo es el sintagma preposicional to sleep. Se persiguen tres objetivos principales en este trabajo: (i) la identificacion de los diferentes grupos de predicados (de entre los propuestos por Levin, 1993) que son compatibles con estos ejemplos concretos de la construccion resultativa; (ii) el examen de las restricciones externas (especialmente la metafora de alto nivel) que permiten la fusion lexico-construccional de cada...

This article explores the constraints that underlie the functioning of motion verbs expressing movement in a particular way (e.g. skulk, scamper). Our study has been carried out in accordance with the postulates of the Lexical Constructional Model (LCM), as put forward by Ruiz de Mendoza and Mairal (2006). The LCM accounts for the relationship between lexical and syntactic meaning by merging into one unified approach relevant theoretical and methodological assumptions from both functional projectionist theories such as Role and Reference Grammar, on the one hand, and constructional models of linguistic description, on the other. Such a combined framework allows us to offer a comprehensive characterization of the verbs under scrutiny, including (1) syntactically relevant information (logical structure), (2) semantic content (lexical template) and ( ) those cognitive and pragmatic constraints which may license, restrict or block the fusion of lexical templates into higher-level constructional patterns.

presente capítulo visa apresentar, de modo didático, um
dos principais temas da Linguística Funcionalista Norte-americana
a futuros professores de língua materna: a codificação linguística
de Figura e de Fundo em textos orais e escritos. Desde a década
de 1970, sobretudo a partir dos trabalhos de Hopper e Thompson
(1980), diversos linguistas vêm estudando esses temas em diferentes
línguas, demonstrando o caráter icônico da marcação linguística
dos planos Figura e Fundo. Há algumas publicações que podem
ser voltadas para graduandos em Letras, mas aplicações do tema à
sala de aula, com exercícios com dados reais da língua portuguesa,
ainda são raras. Assim, professores, sobretudo os que não são pesquisadores
da área, precisam muitas vezes ensinar, em cursos de
Letras, a disciplina Funcionalismo sem material didático adequado.
Por essa razão, e por entendermos que o Funcionalismo Linguístico
tem muito a oferecer tanto para pesquisa com dados, como para
a formação de professores de línguas, queremos contribuir para a
área com este capítulo em que revisamos o tema plano discurso e
trazemos propostas de exercícios para os iniciantes na área.

Os textos que compõem esta obra foram submetidos para avaliação do Conselho Editorial da Pimenta Cultural, bem como revisados por pares, sendo indicados para a publicação. Dedicamos esta obra ao Professor Dr. Sebastião Josué Votre, que criou o Grupo de Estudos Discurso & Gramática, no início da década de 1990, e que hoje continua a nos inspirar com sua paixão pelos estudos. O principal público-alvo são alunos de graduação em Letras, como mencionado, e pessoas interessadas em fazer projetos de pesquisas em linhas que dialogam com a abordagem funcionalista que utilizamos. A obra é composta por onze capítulos, cada um com um resumo para nortear os leitores, uma seção para conhecer o fenômeno linguístico em estudo, uma seção sobre as suas tendências de uso, uma seção de exercícios primordialmente de análise de dados linguísticos, uma seção em que os autores sugerem textos para os alunos aprofundarem o assunto e uma seção final com as referências citadas ao longo do capítulo. O livro foi projetado para que o professor de disciplinas ligadas aos usos linguísticos ou disciplinas sobre correntes linguísticas baseadas no uso possa abordar questões teóricas e metodológicas a partir do estudo de diversos pesquisadores da área que escreveram pensando num público de graduandos. Também foi projetado para que interessados na área possam ter meios de montar seus pré-projetos de pesquisa para monografias ou Mestrado com exemplos de como se analisam dados reais da língua portuguesa numa perspectiva funcional. Vejamos um pouco sobre cada capítulo. Maria Angélica Furtado da Cunha e Edvaldo Balduíno Bispo abordam, no Capítulo 1, "Construções de estrutura argumental: teoria e prática", um tema muito caro à corrente funcionalista, de modo a fazer o aluno refletir sobre os diferentes tipos sintáticos de orações, sobre seus papéis semântico-pragmáticos e sobre construções idiomatizadas em diferentes graus criadas a partir de esquemas construcionais muito frequentes. Um exemplo é a construção triargumental, com papel de apresentar movimento causado, como "Ela colocou tudo na mala", que serve de base para expressões como "colocar chifre em alguém" e "colocar tudo em dia". Os autores demonstram que a estrutura argumental de um verbo é variável a depender do contexto linguístico em que é empregado, não havendo, portanto, estrutura rígida. Sendo assim, os autores defendem que a estrutura argumental dos verbos é um tipo de conhecimento adquirido à medida que o falante aprende a usar sua língua. No Capítulo 2, "A Construção Monoargumental VS de Focalização no português brasileiro", Roberto de Freitas Jr. e Priscilla Mouta Marques retomam pesquisas basilares sobre a temática destacada em âmbito histórico e construcional e discutem o papel da informatividade sobre as cláusulas com sujeito posposto ao verbo. Além disso, sob um aporte cognitivo-funcional, demonstram que há diferentes subesquemas ligados à ordenação VS com características formais e funcionais. Seus exemplos ilustram o caráter de herança construcional e sua ligação com a frequência dessas construções no português do Brasil. Já no Capítulo 3, "Construções com verbo suporte dão match na gramática das línguas", Marcia dos Santos Machado Vieira e Pâmela Fagundes Travassos discutem, por meio de exemplos de diferentes línguas, as formações linguísticas com verbo suporte. Considerando as práticas comunicativas e os aspectos variáveis e mutáveis a partir de dados extraídos de contextos reais de uso variados, as autoras comprovam a versatilidade formal e pragmática desses elementos por meio de questões semânticas, discursivas, sociais, morfossintáticas e lexicais. No Capítulo 4, intitulado "Adverbiais Modalizadores", Deise Cristina de Moraes Pinto e Dennis Castanheira apresentam análises e resultados de trabalhos de cunho funcionalista sobre os adverbiais modalizadores e discutem as tendências de uso de tais adverbiais, partindo de dois pontos cruciais: sua ordenação na sentença e os efeitos de modalização que envolvem (inter)subjetividade. Os autores apontam que os modalizadores têm papéis sintáticos e discursivos diversos (apresentando, por vezes, graus de subjetividade distintos), a depender do contexto em que estejam inseridos, e comprovam sua afirmação com uma vasta apresentação de exemplos extraídos de variadas fontes. No Capítulo 5, escrito por Priscilla Mouta Marques e Júlia Langer de Campos e intitulado "Construções adverbiais de modificação verbal: as construções com adjetivos adverbiais e com advérbios em -mente", as autoras apresentam as particularidades formais e funcionais de construções com adjetivo adverbial ("falar correto") e com advérbio em -mente ("falar corretamente"). Suas elucidações são pautadas em questões qualitativas e quantitativas e em diferentes exemplos e vão ao encontro da ideia de que as construções [V AA] e [V Xmente] são pragmaticamente distintas, com padrões discursivos diferentes quanto à informatividade e à focalização. Já no Capítulo 6, "Locuções temporais do português: uma análise funcionalista", Érika Cristine Ilogti de Sá e Maria Maura Cezario discutem os usos de locuções adverbiais de tempo ("na quinta-feira passada", "em 23 de novembro de 2006", "durante o trimestre" e "até agora") por meio de suas tendências em relação à ordenação e aos valores semânticos no português escrito contemporâneo. Para isso, retomam trabalhos anteriores sobre a temática e utilizam vários exemplos retirados de textos recentes da mídia analisando seus padrões de uso, a fim de estabelecer tendências mais gerais sobre o assunto. No Capítulo 7, "Estratégias de conexão do português em uso no Brasil", Ivo da Costa do Rosário, Mariangela Rios de Oliveira e Monclar Guimarães Lopes apresentam alguns meios de conexão do português criados a partir de mudanças semânticas que costumam ocorrer nas línguas, revisando trabalhos importantes na linha funcionalista, como a pesquisa de Heine et al. (1991) e a de Traugott e Dasher (2002). Com base na proposta funcionalista, discutem como construções como sem contar, sem falar e fora isso são usadas como conectores importantes como estratégias de argumentação. Com uma rica exemplificação, os autores levam o leitor a refletir não somente sobre o papel de conectores no discurso, mas também no modo como criamos novos conectores na língua para darmos conta de nossos propósitos comunicativos. No Capítulo 8, "Cláusulas insubordinadas no português em uso", Violeta Rodrigues aborda um tema ainda pouco explorado na nossa língua: a insubordinação. A autora explica o fenômeno a partir de dados reais coletados de diferentes fontes como o WhatsApp e o Twitter e demonstra que é muito comum o uso de orações sem a chamada oração principal ou matriz, mas com um conector tradicionalmente subordinativo no início de oração, como "Que a alegria seja seu primeiro abraço pela manhã" (frase de conversa de Whatsapp). A pesquisadora traz uma ótima revisão sobre o assunto, apresenta vários padrões diferentes de insubordinação e explicita os seus principais papéis pragmático-discursivos. Em "Construções oracionais hipotáticas: links entre os domínios da causa, da condição e da concessão", Capítulo 9 do livro, Thiago dos Santos Silva, Juliana Barboza do Nascimento, Maria Maura Cezario e Dennis Castanheira apresentam as tendências de uso de algumas construções hipotáticas iniciadas por [X que] (ainda que, mesmo que, posto que, dado que e visto que), objeto de investigação de diversos estudos já realizados sob aportes teórico-metodológicos distintos que serviram de fonte para o desenvolvimento dos que são aqui apresentados sob uma abordagem construcionista. Destacam que tais construções, embora possam ser introdutoras do mesmo tipo de oração, por exemplo, apresentam diferentes comportamentos na língua, dependendo dos propósitos comunicativos dos falantes. Ademais, apontam que há diferenças de uso de uma mesma construção e que tais diferenças também estão relacionadas a pressões discursivo-pragmáticas. No Capítulo 10, "Construções epistêmicas: os casos de vai que e de repente", Nastassia Santos Neves Coutinho, Leyla Ely, Juan Lima de Paula e Manoela Amstelden Ambiell discutem os usos de duas construções relativamente recentes na língua portuguesa, as construções vai que e de repente. Embora tenham usos diferentes, essas construções desempenham um papel semelhante por fazerem parte do paradigma de marcadores de modalidade epistêmica, expressando cada qual um grau diferente de (inter)subjetividade. Essas construções ocorrem com muita frequência em porções textu-ais argumentativas, trazendo nas orações em que se inserem pontos de vista para justificar alguma opinião ou alguma sugestão. Fechando esta obra, Karen Sampaio Braga Alonso e Nuciene Caroline Amphilóphio Fumaux, em capítulo intitulado "Construções Binominais Quantificadoras", apresentam uma interessante análise sobre construções como um monte de N (um monte de coisas), uma enxurrada de N (uma enxurrada de dólares), um bocado de N (um bocado de gente) entre outras. As autoras destacam que as construções binominais podem ser de diversos tipos e que têm a função de multiplicar ou porcionar referentes. Tratam, então, nesse texto, de três categorias relacionadas ao conceito de quantidade (Talmy, 2006): plexidade, estado de delimitação e estado de divisão. Evidenciam, assim, que as construções binominais quantificadoras podem ser usadas para exprimir quantidade de variadas formas, mais precisas ou mais imprecisas, com avaliações mais subjetivas ou refletindo medidas mais convencionalizadas. This article presents a distributional approach to predict the compositionality of German particle verbs by modelling changes in syntactic argument structure. We justify the experiments on theoretical grounds and employ GermaNet, Topic Models and Singular Value Decomposition for generalization, to compensate for data sparseness. Evaluating against three human-rated gold standards, our finegrained syntactic approach is able to predict the level of compositionality of the particle verbs but is nevertheless inferior to a coarse-grained bag-of-words approach.

I wish I could say that this lecture ties it all together and explains all the remaining questions. That is not really what I am going to do here. What I will try to do is to tie up some loose ends with regard to constructional change and the distributional methods that I have been talking about in earlier lectures. I feel that when you hear about distributional semantics and semantic vector spaces for the first few times, it can be very demanding. In this lecture, I want to take things a little more slowly and present some of the issues that I have already talked about in a little more detail.
