In this study, 308 small business executives were interviewed and asked to identify the single most important thing they had learned about managing the use of information technology (IT) in their ®rms. The most common response was staying current/ keeping up with changing IT. The training/education of end users, the ability to get information quickly, and accurate data were also given as things the executives had learned. The small business executives interviewed were from a variety of industries including the computer industry, the health care industry, engineering, consulting, manufacturing, insurance, accounting, and law. Ninety-two percent of the executives had acquired new hardware and 89.9% had acquired new software for their ®rms since their ®rms had ®rst started using computers. In approximately 90% of the ®rms, the number of users of computers had increased and the majority of the new users were classi®ed as both managerial and clerical. Again, approximately 90% of the ®rms had increased the number of functions for which computers were used within their ®rms with applications in accounting having the greatest increase.

The paper deals with the facts obtained from TIMSS 2003 (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study). This international comparative study, which includes 47 participant countries worldwide, explores dependence between eighth grade students' achievement in the areas of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and geography, and basic characteristics of context for teaching and learning in school and at home. In the sense, different options of using modern technology equipment and its influence to students' achievement are explored in the TIMSS 2003 assessment. The main topic of the paper is using computers and calculators in teaching and its implications to students' overall achievement at the end of primary school education. The TIMSS 2003 international overall results in this area show that using computers in teaching doesn't significantly contribute to better students' achievement in the field of mathematics and also show some level of significant influence on students' achievement in the field of science. Moreover, the results show that using calculators in mathematics teaching improve overall students' achievement. Connectedness between using computers/calculators and students' achievement is especially explored and presented in the frame of students' sample in four countries, the United States, the Netherlands, Bulgaria and Serbia.

Background Several studies have suggested that high levels of computer use are linked to psychopathology. However, there is ambiguity about what should be considered normal or over-use of computers. Furthermore, the nature of the link between computer usage and psychopathology is controversial. The current study utilized the context of age to address these questions. Our hypothesis was that the context of age will be paramount for differentiating normal from excessive use, and that this context will allow a better understanding of the link to psychopathology. Methods In a cross-sectional study, 185 parents and children aged 3-18 years were recruited in clinical and community settings. They were asked to fill out questionnaires regarding demographics, functional and academic variables, computer use as well as psychiatric screening questionnaires. Using a regression model, we identified 3 groups of normal-use, over-use and under-use and examined known factors as putative differentiators between the overusers and the other groups. Results After modeling computer screen time according to age, factors linked to over-use were: decreased socialization (OR 3.24, Confidence interval [CI] 1.23-8.55, p = 0.018), difficulty to disengage from the computer (OR 1.56, CI 1.07-2.28, p = 0.022) and age, though borderline-significant (OR 1.1 each year, CI 0.99-1.22, p = 0.058). In today's generation, interior and local government units in the Philippines need to improve the transaction of public services through computerization. The municipality of San Fernando, Romblon composed of twelve barangays-the basic unit of government in the Philippines-with more than twenty-five thousand residents is looking forward to engaging in the new era of technology and become more knowledgeable on how to utilize tools and techniques to serve a bigger purpose like making transactions convenient by the use of basic computer operations, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and the Internet. A self-assessment survey was conducted among one hundred twenty barangay officials and employees on their level of competencies on how to use personal computer operation. The majority of the participants are considered beginners because of their limited knowledge in personal computer operation specifically in MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and Internet and Email and advance level in MSWord. Furthermore, there is only a limited computer in each barangay. Also, the respondents during the interview are willing to undergo pieces of training to facilitate the upliftment in the services that they offered in their respective constituent with the aid of computerization.

The paper considers the main results and some educational implications of the TIMSS 2003 assessment conducted in Serbia in the fields of the science achievement of Serbian eighth grade students and the science curriculum context of their achievement. There were 4264 students in the sample. It was confirmed that Serbian eighth graders had made average scale score of 468 points in the science, and with this achievement they are placed in the zone of the top of low international benchmarking level, very close to the point of intermediate benchmark. The average science achievement of the Serbian eighth graders is somewhat below the general international science achievement. The best results were achieved in the science content domain of "chemistry", and the lower results in the content domain of "environmental science". Across the defined science cognitive domains, it was confirmed that the Serbian students had achieved the best results in cognitive domain of "factual knowledge" and weaker results in "reasoning and analysis". The achieved results raise many questions about contents of the science curriculum in Serbia, its overall quality and basic characteristics of its implementation. These results can be eligibly used to improve the science curricula and teaching in Serbian primary school.

Aim: This study was carried out to determine the use of computers among secondary level students, and the impacts of demographical variables on computer usage.Method: Data for this descriptive and cross-sectional designed study was collected via surveys conducted by the researcher on a sample group of 2,304 students. This paper describes a feasibility study of ICT and social media as perceived by elderly people. Until lately, very little research has been done on social media from the perspective of older people. This is surprising as prior literature reveals that the amount of elderly people is increasing in the future. The empirical research material was collected by interviewing elderly people who lived independently at home. The qualitative study showed that not all elderly find social media necessary or interesting but several of them use ICT due to need for services. The results will contribute further research on the use of ICT and elderly people.

This study examined attitude dimensions of secondary school social studies teachers towards computer usage in Kogi State Nigeria. Qualification and Gender influence on their use was examined. Participants were 427 (Male = 224; female = 203) social studies teachers. Sampling was purposive and random. The study adopted the survey design. Data were collected through a Questionnaire and analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions while t-test was used to test the hypotheses at.05 level of significance. The study revealed that Social studies teachers with higher qualification have higher negative attitude towards the use of computer than those with lower qualification. Male social studies teachers have higher negative attitude towards the use of computer than their female counterparts. However, no significant difference was established between male and female social studies teachers and use of computer. It closes with recommendation.

This study explores how support for computer users can be conceptualized and measured in information systems research. A number of studies have proposed that support for computer users plays an important role in the acceptance and utilization of information technology applications. In these studies, the support concept has been conceptualized in a variety of ways, and the findings have often not been as hypothesized. The paper provides a conceptual framework for understanding support for computer users, and then describes the development of an instrument to measure support for computer users in a business school lab environment. The paper should help further understanding and measurement of a concept that seems important, as well as problematic, for information systems research.

Government organizations from national to local levels have been taking the path of computerization of documents and interconnectivity of transactions to improve public service. In the town of Mariveles, Bataan where 18 barangays are continuously attending to the needs of more than 100,000 residents, the barangay council and employees are expected to be equipped with the necessary technical know-hows on basic computer operations Word, Powerpoint, and Excel. A self-assessment survey was conducted among 127 barangay employees on their knowledge level of the various computer processes and usages. Results show that majority of the respondents have limited knowledge on the operating these three (3) programs which are usually used in office management. Thus, a computer training design must be proposed to address the specific areas in which respondents have a difficulty on using.

Methods: A representative sample (1960 subjects, 1012 males, age 13-18.5 y) of Spanish adolescents was studied within the framework of the Alimentación y Valoración del Estado Nutricional de los Adolescentes (AVENA) study. Television (TV) watching, videogame and computer usage, doing homework, and the way students got to school, physical activity, and socioeconomic status were analyzed. Anthropometrics were measured to describe overweight (International Obesity Task Force cutoffs for body mass index) and overfat (body fat percentage Ͼ85th percentile). Results: When all subjects were considered as an entire group, the overweight risk increased by 15.8% (P Ͻ 0.05) per increasing hour of TV watching. The overweight risks decreased by 32.5% in females, 22% per increasing year of age, and 12.5% by increasing socioeconomic status by 1 U (all Ps Ͻ 0.05). The obesity risks decreased with age by 17.8% per year in males and 27.1% in females (both Ps Ͻ 0.05). The overfat risks increased by 26.8% and 9.4% per increasing hour of TV and weekend videogame usage, respectively (both Ps Ͻ 0.05). In males, the overfat risk increased by 21.5% per increasing hour in weekend videogame usage (P Ͻ 0.05). Each hour of TV use increased the overfat risks by 22% in males and 28.3% in females (both Ps Ͻ 0.05). Conclusions: Time spent watching TV increased the risk of overweight and obesity in Spanish adolescents, but the effect was influenced by age, sex, and socioeconomic status. Moreover, an excess of body fat was more directly explained by the time spent watching TV and playing videogames during the weekend.

The survey investigated and appraised the use of internet and computer among secondary school teachers and students in Southwest Nigeria. Pre-tested structured questionnaires were administered to four hundred and fifty and three thousands randomly selected respondents, teachers and students respectively. Almost all the survey instruments were appropriately filled and were used for analysis. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The studies revealed that majority of the respondents are female. 41.1% and 55% of the teachers had access to internet and computer respectively, while 51% and 46.9% of the students had access to internet and computer respectively. In addition, majority of teachers used the net via school cybercafe while that of students reached internet via mobile phones. This paper aims to collect and discuss data about the role of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) for the old people and active ageing. Because there is not known any kind of this research in Portugal about active ageing and ICT it is important to start with a literature review, present and reflect on the good examples and the recommendations gathered and published worldwide. The paper also aims to provoke within the Portuguese society a deep discussion towards the assumption of political decisions in order to include old people as a part of the «Knowledge Society». The Portuguese society is getting older so there is an obligation to provide conditions and policies for active ageing for the old people by the inclusion of ICT and/or Assistive Technologies.

Most developed countries are in the midst of two significant societal trends: the first is an aging population; the second is the uptake of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) by large segments of society. But research shows a strong association between age and the so-called digital divide: older adults are less likely to use ICT when compared to other age groups. If we consider the social affordances of the Internet and the online migration of several public and private services, the lack of access or of digital literacy might be increasing age-related inequality. Consequently, we studied adoption, usage, and non-usage of ICT (mobile phones, computers, and the Internet) by Portuguese older adults. For that, we surveyed a random stratified sample of 500 individuals over 64 years of age living in Lisbon. Of this sample, 77% owned a mobile phone, 13% used computers, and 10% used the Internet. The influence of technology on all dimensions of the society has become a planetary truth over the last decades (Irrgang 2007). Nowadays, almost no one contradicts the fact that technology transfers and innovations are directly linked to the efficiency of almost all economic activity, but that it is not enough. The catalyst factor of increased efficiency remains the human, because the human resources management related processes in an organization are the ones to decisively determine its success. People, their skills and knowledge are probably the most valuable resource an organization has, therefore it is necessary not only to reward them properly but also to develop them constantly (Kateřina et al. 2013). That is why, the rethinking of employment in terms of direct correlation with the results obtained by individuals and the computerized pattern-making are essential issues (Mirica 2018) pertaining the new perspectives of performance management.
The present paper aims to create the basis of a theoretical and practical framework that is necessary for adopting a performance appraisal model based on employees’ actual actions and ways of accomplishing their tasks, but simple enough to be used by any organization that seeks to streamline processes related to its human resources. In other words, the presented model can be defined as a phenomenological model based on the theory of information. First of all: "phenomenological”, because it refers directly to events/actions/activities generated and experienced by the employees during work, and secondly: “based on the theory of information” because the model also integrates principles and knowledge about how to process, store and use sensory information or dynamics of attention and memory, with reference to the evaluated personnel. Employees’ manifestations while working can be considered as “outside” events, and yet, those events can’t be dissociated with certain realities which are subjectively lived and experienced by employees and that are linked with “inside” manifestations. Therefore, the presented model intends to fructify both the so called: “intentionally ordered information” (Csikszentmihalyi 2015) and the one “instinctively ordered” and generated by employees.

Most developed countries are in the midst of two significant societal trends: the first is an aging population; the second is the uptake of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) by large segments of society. But research shows a strong association between age and the so-called digital divide: older adults are less likely to use ICT when compared to other age groups. If we consider the social affordances of the Internet and the online migration of several public and private services, the lack of access or of digital literacy might be increasing age-related inequality. Consequently, we studied adoption, usage, and non-usage of ICT (mobile phones, computers, and the Internet) by Portuguese older adults. Participants were 427 (Male = 224; female = 203) social studies teachers. Sampling was purposive and random. The study adopted the survey design. Data were collected through a Questionnaire and analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions while t-test was used to test the hypotheses at.05 level of significance. The study revealed that Social studies teachers with higher qualification have higher negative attitude towards the use of computer than those with lower qualification. Male social studies teachers have higher negative attitude towards the use of computer than their female counterparts. However, no significant difference was established between male and female social studies teachers and use of computer. It closes with recommendation.

student handbook frequently and they don’t know how important is the student handbook in their daily activities
at the school. The researchers observed that students are not using the student handbook properly and having
difficulties in understanding the content of the student handbook that may cause their misinterpretation on it.
Another thing that researchers observed is student handbook is required for students to bring but students are not
bringing it which considers as the requirement of teachers for writing their reminders and homework in the
students' diary and that’s why researchers come up with the topic. This study is under the quantitative method of
research and non-random sampling. This study would not happen with the use of the Grade seven (7), eight (8),
nine (9), ten (10), eleven (11), and twelve (12) as the respondents in the total of four hundred four (404) students
of St. Nicholas Catholic School of Mariveles only. The researchers came up with the result, high-school
students in the said school has purchased their own handbook and used the handbook often.

In today's generation, interior and local government units in the Philippines need to improve the transaction of public services through computerization. The municipality of San Fernando, Romblon composed of twelve barangays-the basic unit of government in the Philippines-with more than twenty-five thousand residents is looking forward to engaging in the new era of technology and become more knowledgeable on how to utilize tools and techniques to serve a bigger purpose like making transactions convenient by the use of basic computer operations, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and the Internet. A self-assessment survey was conducted among one hundred twenty barangay officials and employees on their level of competencies on how to use personal computer operation. The majority of the participants are considered beginners because of their limited knowledge in personal computer operation specifically in MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and Internet and Email and advance level in MSWord. Furthermore, there is only a limited computer in each barangay. Also, the respondents during the interview are willing to undergo pieces of training to facilitate the upliftment in the services that they offered in their respective constituent with the aid of computerization.

This research aims to determine the self-efficacy and success levels of teaching candidates on developing multimedia to the Docebo learning management system through integrating various online tools in developing multimedia courses and using this method in a project-based learning process. Second year students from the department of Computer Education and Educational Technology participated in this research. Random selection method was used in order to assign the students to the groups. Online (30 participants) and blended (30 participants) groups were constituted for this experimental study. Based on the pre-test results of the students participating in the study, it was investigated as to whether there was a difference between the groups. Since pre-test success scores of the students from the two groups would affect the results of the research, the difference between the two groups was examined by applying a t-test. There was no significant difference in the pre-test scores of the teaching candidates in the group. Data from the research were collected with demographic information forms and 5-point Likert-type scale developed by authors.

Pre-service teachers are expected to use new technologies such as Google+ which facilitates contacting, sharing in certain environments and working collaboratively with the help of cloud support in their lessons effectively. This study aims to examine pre-service teachers' opinions regarding the use of Google+ to support lesson activities. In this study the data was collected using semi-structured interview techniques carried out with pre-service teachers (n=15) chosen by purposeful sampling. The purposes of using Google+ were sharing, chatting and communication, whereas Google Docs was mostly used for its efficiency, interaction, the prudential purpose of use and to support teaching. When the views of the pre-service teachers regarding the use of Google+ were examined it was found that interface being thought to be more complex than other social networks affected the teachers' first impressions negatively. As the negative first impression towards Google+ changed in time, it was stated to have provided a number of teaching opportunities. Some suggestions regarding the opportunities Google+ offers were also made.

Through this research, new trends in mobile learning activities in recent years will be determined and a new way will be shown for researchers. "Mobile learning" keywords used during researching process and all the articles with "mobile learning" keywords were included in this study. As a result of this research, it is determined that the most studies in the field of mobile learning were published in 2013 in Malaysia, UK and Taiwan. Particularly undergraduate students was selected as the sample group of the researches. It is emerged that, experimental research was used maximum as a research model. Quantitative data collection tools were used most as a means of data collection. It was emerged that foreign language education is the most widely used field in mobile learning. It is seen that smart phones as mobile learning devices and IOS operating system as an operating system were used in the most researches. Mobile-based method is seen to be used as the teaching method in the present study.

The aim of the study is to examine the self-perceptions of elementary school sixth-, seventh-and eighth-grade students who are aged between 12 and 15 about computer game addiction. In the research, the game addiction scale was employed in order to determine students' self-perceptions. The scale was administered to 1467 elementary school students. Of the participants students in the research, 16,8% described themselves as individuals experiencing problems in computer game addiction. On the other hand, it was determined that the factors of age and gender create significant differences in students' self-perceptions, whereas the factors of socioeconomic level and grade level do not.

The purpose of this study is to determine which teaching strategies, techniques and methods are used by teachers in science and technology classes and also to determine the shortcomings they have. A questionnaire was conducted to a total of 95 teachers, 45 of whom were science and technology teachers and 50 of whom were class teachers, and 33 teachers were interviewed. It was found out that the teachers did not have enough information about teaching strategies, methods and techniques and thus were not able to make a precise distinction between them. It was determined that although the teachers were aware that the most convenient teaching technique is experiment technique, they used direct instruction or question and answer technique more and they sometimes used methods and techniques such as laboratory, trip-observation and drama. It was stated that the teachers were not able to implement teaching methods and techniques in which the students could actively participate due to reasons such as insufficient time, intensive curriculum and overcrowded classes. It was also determined that the teachers who were not able to practice different teaching methods although they knew how useful they were needed in-service training.

becerilerine etkisinin incelenmesidir. Araştırma ilişkisel tarama modeline göre tasarlanmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemi, tesadüfi
örnekleme yöntemiyle belirlenmiştir. Örneklemde, 2016-2017 eğitim öğretim yılı Erzincan il merkezinde bulunan 12 bağımsız
anaokulundan 48-72 aylık toplam 152 çocuk yer almıştır. Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak, Frankfurter Dikkat Testi ile Anadolu
Okulöncesi Matematik Beceri (Anomat) Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Anomat ölçeği sayılar, işlemler ve geometri alt bölümlerinden
oluşmaktadır. Çalışma kapsamında ölçeğin geometri bölümünden yararlanılmıştır. Sekiz alt boyuttan oluşan geometri bölümünde,
toplam 30 madde yer almaktadır. Araştırmadan elde edilen veriler, betimsel istatistik ve regresyon analizi ile çözümlenmiştir.

One of the main components of science education, science literacy, entails understanding the concept of the nature of science (NOS). One way of teaching the NOS is to make use of the history of science. Interactive historical vignettes (IHV) that are based on the history of science, through which students can find many opportunities for discussion and that use the life stories of scientists, can be used as an effective technique in teaching the NOS. The purpose of the current study is to see how effective enhanced concept cartoons and visuals are in teaching the NOS and in contributing to students’ scientific thinking and argumentation. IHV enhanced with concept cartoons to develop understanding of the NOS were used by 23 fifth graders for five weeks. Developments in students’ conception of the NOS were analysed by examining video recordings and IHV documents. The findings show that the students’ conception of the NOS developed as a result of the application. Improvement was observed in the conception of NOS in 19 students out of 23. Of these 19 students, 13 participated more in discussions related to IHV and, over time, started to use statements more in compliance with the NOS. This is believed to be because the enrichment of IHV with concept cartoons and visuals enabled the students to think more scientifically and thus improved the discussion atmosphere in the class. As a result, it is believed to be effective in focusing students on the elements of the NOS that exist in IHV and in developing their understanding of the NOS.

Pre-tested structured questionnaires were a dministered to four hundred a nd fi fty a nd three thousands ra ndomly s elected respondents, teachers and students respectively. Al most all the s urvey i nstruments were appropria tel y fi l led a nd were used for a nalysis. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The studies revealed tha t ma jori ty of the res pondents a re female. 41.1% a nd 55% of the teachers had access to internet a nd computer respectively, whil e 51% a nd 46.9% of the s tudents had access to internet and computer respectively. In addition, majority of teachers used the net via s chool cyberca fé whi l e tha t of s tudents rea ched i nternet vi a mobi l e phones. However, 38.7% a nd 64.5% of the res pondents (teachers a nd students) had a ccess to computer by using their school computer l aboratory. Very l ow indexes were recorded for va riables that contributed to teaching and learning processes in the school. The ra ti ng res ul ts deri ved from s ummation of weighted values (SWV) a ll a ttested to thi s cl a i m. This study aims at identification of views of teachers, students and their parents at Near East College in North Cyprus on use of tablets in education. The research is a descriptive case study. In collection of data, semi-structured interviews appropriate for qualitative research methods are used. Study group for this research is composed of high educated teachers (f=64), students (f=319) and also parents (f=134). As result of the analysis carried out in this research which was performed in this direction, it has been seen that teachers, students and parents evaluate the problems related with tablet PCs under the following two sub-dimensions; the experienced problems of during tablet supported education and the benefits of tablet pc usage in education. If we look at the results in this line, we come across with connectivity and technical infrastructure problems which interrupts the lesson or even causes it to end as the biggest problem experienced by teachers and students during the learning activities. The biggest concern of parents, another of our study groups, regarding the use of tablets in education is that games may decrease students' motivation. Teachers stated the biggest benefit provided by tablet supported education is the increase in learning speed of students as a result of visuals and interaction provided by tablets.

This study investigates students' perceptions of classroom assessment tasks as a function of gender, subject area, and grade level. Data from 2753 students on Dorman and Knightley's (2006) Perceptions of Assessment Tasks Inventory (PATI) were analyzed in a MANOVA design. Results showed that students tended to hold positive perceptions of their classroom assessment tasks in terms of congruence with planned learning, authenticity, student consultation, transparency, and diversity. There were statistically significant 3-way interaction effects for gender, subject area, and grade level on congruence with planned learning and transparency. Also, there were statistically significant 2-way interaction effects for gender and grade level on authenticity and student consultation. Further, there were statistically significant 2-way interaction effects for gender and subject area on student consultation and diversity. The implications of the results for classroom assessment as well as recommendations for future research were discussed.

Government organizations from national to local levels have been taking the path of computerization of documents and interconnectivity of transactions to improve public service.  In the town of Mariveles, Bataan where 18 barangays are continuously attending to the needs of more than 100,000 residents, the barangay council and employees are expected to be equipped with the necessary technical know-hows on basic computer operations Word, Powerpoint, and Excel. A self-assessment survey was conducted among 127 barangay employees on their knowledge level of the various computer processes and usages.  Results show that majority of the respondents have limited knowledge on the operating these three (3) programs which are usually used in office management.  Thus, a computer training design must be proposed to address the specific areas in which respondents have a difficulty on using.

One possible way to eliminate the problems of beginning teachers would be to improve the quality of practicum component of teacher education programs since the practicum is where pre-service teachers (PTs) face realities of a classroom. The present study was conducted to find out the challenges that PTs and cooperating teachers (CTs) experience during practicum practices, in the hope that detection of the challenges may shed light on which aspects of practicum needs to be improved to increase quality. Data for the study were collected in the spring term of the 2013-2014 academic year through in-depth interviews with eight PTs studying at the English Language Teaching (ELT) department of a state university in Turkey and three CTs mentoring this group of PTs. The responses indicated that there were serious concerns about practicum practices conducted in Turkey, and thus a revision of those practices was needed.

One of the materials which are used in preparing children for life is undoubtedly printed books. Yet, technological innovations which affect life in every aspect change the structure of books. Books, with innovative features of the internet and computer, take its place first as an e-book after as an interactive e-book which is one of the last products of today's technology. Interactive e-books which are commonly used in children's literature are also used as an educational appliance especially for preschool children. It is an important problem for parents and educators that if products are prepared in line with the requirements of children, and the structure of production. In this context, raising awareness of relevant institutions and people becomes more of an issue. In our study, for setting an example for those who are concerned, the interactive e-book " Who Stole the Moon? " is investigated on various aspects.
