Classical German Philosophy

In the paper I want to sketch two ideas that emerged from my reading of Trentowski: Firstly, that Hegel’s Wissenschaftslehre, or theory of knowledge – to use Siemek’s interpretation of the term – is based on abilities, which he attributes to Vernunft. That is, it is based on the autocracy of reason (samowładztwo rozumu), as Libelt would call it. Secondly, although this theory of knowledge is the most progressive one in Western Philosophy, philosophers of the East, and especially Slavic countries, shall find a more universal basis for the philosophical theory of knowledge, and this basis is the concept of ego or I, which are rough translations of Polish jaźń. about which I will say more later.

Those ideas are better- or worse- developed in Trentowski’s works, but are
certainly not properly exhibited and it is the task of contemporary philosophy to develop them further. What does it mean that Hegel’s philosophy is a philosophy of Vernunft? I take Trentowski’s view to be that Hegel’s philosophy claims or presupposes three things: Firstly, reason, Vernunft, is the ultimate historical and epistemological form of rationality; the most progressive and the most perfect. Secondly, reason is diachronic in its progress; or to put it even more simply: progress is diachronic, the necessary condition of progress is the flow of time. Thirdly, reason does not tolerate any limits of cognition that are not self-imposed.

These theses may not seem obvious for everyone, but when uttered, they
are evident. Trying to negate them seems to be an absurdity. But the fact that Polish philosophy of the 19th century, and especially Trentowski, negated them – seen together with the fact that it was not done for sheer negation, but in a constructive attempt – is what makes their philosophical projects interesting. It is their creative, constructive negation that makes this attempt worth knowing.

In the Encyclopaedia Logic, Hegel states that ‗philosophy … contains the sceptical as a moment within itself -specifically as the dialectical moment' ( §81, Addition 2), and that ‗scepticism' as ‗the dialectical moment itself is an essential one in the affirmative Science' ( §78). 1 On the one hand, the connection between scepticism and dialectic is obvious. Hegel claims that scepticism is a problem that cannot be just removed from the philosophical agenda by knock-down anti-sceptical arguments. Scepticism intrinsically belongs to philosophical thinking; that is to say, it plays a constructive role in philosophical thinking. On the other hand, scepticism has to be construed as the view according to which we cannot know whether our beliefs are true, i.e., scepticism plays a destructive role in philosophy no matter what. It is particularly this role that clashes with Hegel's claim of having established a philosophical system of true cognition of the entirety of reality. In the following I argue that for Hegel the constructive and the destructive role of scepticism are reconcilable. I specifically argue that it is dialectic that makes both consistent since scepticism is a constitutive element of dialectic. In order to show in what sense scepticism is an intrinsic feature of dialectic I begin by sketching Hegel's early view of scepticism specifically with respect to logic and metaphysics. The young Hegel construes logic as a philosophical method of human cognition that inevitably results in ‗sceptical' consequences in that it illustrates the finiteness of human understanding. By doing so, logic not only nullifies finite understanding but also introduces to metaphysics, i.e., the true philosophical science of the absolute. Later Hegel replaces the introductory function of logic by the Phenomenology of Spirit and assigns logic itself the status of metaphysics. In the second section, I outline the method of ‗self-fulfilling scepticism' which Hegel employs in the Phenomenology arguing that this is a constructive form of scepticism which guides consciousness through the systematic destruction of tentatively true knowledge claims and introduces to logic as metaphysics. Throughout the developmental changes of his philosophy Hegel holds onto the view that with respect to finite thinking, scepticism is destructive. However, with regard to metaphysics, scepticism plays a constructive role since from the point of view of logic, sceptical doubts have to be construed in terms of dialectic. En su ensayo Los Caníbales Michel de Montaigne relata la vida de un pueblo indígena sudamericano. En sus consideraciones destaca con buenos ojos un cierto tipo de sabiduría natural que articula las relaciones sociales de la tribu, lo que podría sugerir que la presenta como un saber a imitar. Frente a esta aparente idealización, sostendremos que la propuesta filosófica de Montaigne se nutre de la sabiduría que destaca en el pueblo indígena pero sólo bajo una crítica de tonalidad escéptica. Como en Los Ensayos las consideraciones sobre este tipo de sabiduría también ofician de crítica a la cultura europea, nos parece necesario incorporar las reflexiones que Montaigne desarrolla sobre el ejercicio filosófico en su tiempo. Para lograr nuestro objetivo, en un primer momento, expondremos las acusaciones que Montaigne realiza a la forma de vanidosa de entender la filosofía en la Francia de su época. En segundo lugar, analizaremos sus consideraciones sobre la experiencia vital de los indígenas a la que denominaremos como "sabiduría natural". Por último, enunciaremos cómo Montaigne se reapropia de dicha sabiduría por medio de una crítica de tinte pirrónica donde el autoconocimiento y el cuerpo adquieren un protagonismo central.

This paper explores the concept of negativity in the late philosophy of Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling, particularly as it is articulated in his Philosophical Inquiries into the Nature of Human Freedom and Related Subjects (1809). While often overshadowed by Hegel's more systematic and famous dialectical negativity, Schelling's notion of negativity offers a distinct and, arguably, more profound ontological and existential account of freedom, evil, and the ground of being. I argue that for Schelling, negativity is not a mere logical tool for the progression of thought, but a dynamic, pre-rational, and fundamental principle rooted in the ungrounded ground (Urgrund) of existence. This principle, the dark and unconscious will that precedes and conditions the emergence of both nature and spirit, is what makes genuine freedom-and its tragic possibility for evil-a reality. By contrasting Schelling's conception with Hegel's, I will demonstrate how Schelling's thought provides a powerful framework for understanding the recalcitrant, non-rational element in being and consciousness, a framework that remains deeply relevant for contemporary philosophy.

The article aspires to delineate Hegel's appropriation of Aristotle's concept of soul in post-Kantian European Philosophy. It showcases the way that Hegel fuses central aspects of Aristotle's theory and Kant's account of inner purposiveness in order to deliver a hierarchical account of vegetative-, animal-, and human organisms. The article is divided in six parts. The first part offers an introduction to the subject matter. The second part delivers an overall account of the way that Hegel reconstructs Aristotle's general theory of the soul and fuses it with Kant's theory of inner purposiveness. The third part highlights Hegel's distinctive argumentative strategy for delivering a unified, atemporal account of the connection between the various natural realms, both inorganic and organic. Parts four, five and six proceed to his theory of vegetative-, animal-and human life respectively, while showcasing the underlying logic and the upshot of Hegel's developmental account of these three kinds of life qua soul.

This paper draws on aspects of Kant’s epistemology to investigate the potential contribution of his conceptual distinctions to contemporary discourses concerning disinformation, fake news, and public discourse. Focusing on the Canon of Pure Reason in the first Critique , I examine Kant’s distinction between opinion, belief, and knowledge, as well as the role of transcendental reflection in clarifying these levels of epistemic legitimacy. The hypothesis is that this conceptual structure may clarify the confusion between different forms of assent in digital environments, where misinformation, disinformation, and conspiracy theories, for example, blur epistemic boundaries and raise questions about freedom of expression, the conditions of Enlightenment, and the viability of rational public discourse.

Was ich in diesem Beitrag diskutieren möchte, ist eine Frage, die bei Hegel brennend erscheint und die – obwohl sie in den letzten 200 Jahren ihre Gestalt radi- kal verändert hat – auch in unserer heutigen Zeit noch virulent ist: Dies ist die Frage nach dem freiheitserschließenden Potential von Wissen, und vor allem der Philosophie, für die Selbstverständigung über uns und unsere eigene Welt.
In Vorbereitung dieser Fragestellung möchte ich zunächst Hegels Umgestaltung der Frage nach einem philosophisch gerechtfertigten Begriff der Philosophie in Anknüpfung an Kant und die nach-kantische Generation darstellen (I.). Danach stelle ich anhand der Analyse der Rede zum Antritt des philosophischen Lehramtes an der Universität Berlin und der Enzyklopädie der philosophischen Wissenschaften im Grundrisse einige Aspekte von Hegels Umsetzung der zeitdiagnostischen Leistung der Philosophie heraus, die darin besteht, ihre Zeit in Gedanken zu erfassen (II.). Schließlich gehe ich auf einen ›Hegelschen Weltbegriff der Philosophie‹ ein, der, um in einer Zeit der Verwissenschaftlichung der Lebensverhältnisse wissenschaftlich gemäß zu sein, sein Wirken als lehrbares und lernbares Wissen auf ein Publikum nicht vernachlässigen kann (III.).
Die These, die ich vertreten möchte, lautet: Hegels Verpflichtung, die Wissenschaftlichkeit der Philosophie in Abhebung zu den anderen Wissenschaften hervorzuheben, enthält ebenso sehr das Bedürfnis, das emanzipatorische Potenzial dieses Wissens herauszustellen, wie auch die Beteiligung der Subjekte an ihm mit einzubeziehen.

Este libro examina con profundidad y precisión una problemática clásica de la filosofía: la apariencia. Lejos de constituir un mero tema lateral, la apariencia se revela aquí como un problema estructural que atraviesa la metafísica moderna y, con ello, áreas como la estética, el derecho y la ética. Immanuel Kant y G. W. F. Hegel, cuyas obras han configurado decisivamente los modos contemporáneos de pensar, ofrecen intervenciones cruciales en torno a este asunto. Sin embargo, sus aportes no siempre han recibido la atención que merecen. Este estudio propone una reconstrucción sistemática de la teoría de la apariencia en ambos pensadores acudiendo a sus corpus teóricos. Tras una breve revisión histórica del problema, se aborda la especificidad kantiana del tratamiento de este tema, para luego explorar cómo Hegel transforma y radicaliza la problemática, afianzando la idea de que la apariencia ha dejado de ser comprendida como una mera ilusión, para devenir ahora en un momento constitutivo de lo real. Así, esta obra no solo ilumina un eje poco transitado de la filosofía clásica alemana, sino que ofrece claves conceptuales para repensar críticamente el estatuto de la realidad en la modernidad.

This work deals with the determination of the fundamental principle which governs the inter-
penetration between metaphysics and philosophy of praxis in Schelling's thought. The research
is carried out through a historical-philosophical reconstruction and, at the same time, an imma-
nent and theoretical critics to the Schellingian System. The core hypothesis of the inquiry is
that the Schellingian philosophy of law consists in a kind of legal anarchism which represents a
specific form of – more than mere political ontology – politics of ontology. In fact, over the
years, on the one hand, Schelling constantly elaborates and reformulates an ontology adept at
the foundation of the Rechtslehre, but, on the other hand, it is legal anarchism which orients
the speculative direction of ontology itself. Thus, legal anarchism as politics of ontology is emi-
nenter that particular configuration of intersubjective relationships, and, specifically, of those between the individual and the legal order of State, which represents itself as a precise ontological self-foundation, namely a powerful metaphysics of freedom. This last one is synthesized by the German philosopher in the concept of Ungrund that, in this paper, through the philosophical description of its essential structure, arises as what we define as – with Schelling and beyond Schelling – «the accidental being» or «Symbebekós».

This essay investigates the notion of moral progress through the lens of responsibility, proposing that the evolution of this concept provides compelling evidence for the existence and meaning of moral progress. The study explores how responsibility has transformed over time - from a purely causal understanding to one that integrates intentionality and subjectivity - arguing that this evolution reflects deeper changes in moral beliefs and social practices. Drawing on the philosophical frameworks of Hegel and his student Karl Ludwig Michelet, the author illustrates how responsibility shifted from a static attribution of guilt to a nuanced framework incorporating both moral and legal dimensions. The essay emphasizes the role of self-conscious moral agents and institutional contexts in driving such change. In light of contemporary global challenges, especially ecological crises, the essay calls for a reconceptualization of human responsibility, advocating for a forward-looking, co-responsible ethics. Ultimately, the historical and conceptual development of responsibility is presented as a paradigmatic case of moral progress, demonstrating the dynamic interplay between philosophical reflection and evolving social realities.

In this paper, we will analyze Hegel's concept of the concrete universal in the context of his political thought. In particular, we will analyze it as it appears in the realm of Ethical Life (Sittlichkeit) of Objective Spirit, Hegel's notion of a socio-political world. In the first section of the paper, we will examine the relationship of interdependence and reciprocity between the universality of institutions and the particularity of individual citizens, focusing on how Ethical Life must always be conceived as a concrete universal which is dynamic, active, in motion, and thus vitalized by individual demands. Specifically, we will explore how Ethical Life indeed requires customs, and hence social practices or 'habits', but, as we shall see, these must always remain subject to revision, and the particular should never be entirely absorbed into the universal, lest the latter become a dead mechanism, a merely abstract principle. To illustrate this point, the second section of the paper will draw a parallel between social custom, on the one hand, and habit (Gewohnheit) as a moment of the Subjective Spirit, on the other. This comparison will show how the ethical community risks ossifying its Spirit if a social order becomes overly formal, as Hegel asserts in his Lectures on the Philosophy of History. The third section of the paper takes up the tragic character of Antigone in the Phenomenology of Spirit in order to demonstrate how the particular, with its individual demands, must always challenge the universal tendency to become formal and abstract. We will see how such an analysis of the concrete universal in the Hegelian political sphere leads to a reflection with feminist implications which must go beyond Hegel himself, precisely to remain faithful to the dynamism of his philosophy.

This paper aims to fill a gap in the literature by investigating Fichte’s
application of the genetic method to Kant’s transcendental philosophy. I claim that
Fichte’s main source for developing this method is Ernst Platner’s conception of
logic as a pragmatic history of the human faculty of cognition. To support this claim,
I argue (1) that Platner himself reworked Kant’s account of the faculties by using
this method, (2) that Fichte engaged extensively with Platner’s approach to Kant,
and (3) that he employed a nonpsychological version of Platner’s method to recast
Kant’s transcendental logic in the Foundation of the Entire Doctrine of Science. In my view, Fichte’s development of the genetic method within a transcendental framework is one of his most influential contributions to the further development of German Idealism.

En este artículo, me propongo dilucidar el significado de las acusaciones por parte del Electorado de Sajonia-y otras no oficiales-, que J. G. Fichte recibió en el marco de la Disputa del Ateísmo (Atheismusstreit), según las cuales su pensamiento idealista era considerado ateo. A su vez, en este contexto, el filósofo fue acusado de nihilismo y, según su propia interpretación de las acusaciones, fue tildado de jacobino-demócrata. El objetivo es identificar en sus obras-Grundlage der gesamten Wissenschaftslehre (1794-1795), la primera versión de su sistema filosófico, así como en las Revolutionsschriften (1793-1794) y en los textos que escribió en el contexto de la Disputa (1798-1799)-aquellos nodos en los que se basan las etiquetas antes mencionadas. En este ámbito, también se hace referencia a su relación filosófica con F. H. Jacobi, quien desempeñó un papel significativo en la esfera de la Polémica. Jacobi lo criticó y demarcó una dicotomía entre su pensamiento religioso y el idealismo moral à la Fichte. Resumen En ese artículo intento mostrar la contradicción inherente a aquello que designo como libertinismo liberal. Para ello, me sirvo de lo desarrollado por J.G. Fichte en su Beitrag zur Berichtigung der Urtheile des Publikums über die französische Revolution (1793/1794) así como también del marco conceptual de la filosofía normativa contemporánea. Inicialmente, presento la posición de Fichte en el Beitrag acerca de la naturaleza normativa del ser humano y la fundamentación de los dominios del derecho natural, los contratos en general, y el contrato civil en particular. Una vez explicitado el esquema jurídico-moral fichteano, expongo argumentalmente la contradicción performativa al interior de la concepción moral y política libertina. Finalmente, presento algunas consideraciones finales que atañen a la coyuntura política y la filosofía práctica en la actualidad.

Adventure fiction suggests that social conflicts can be displaced from the centre to the periphery of culture in order to be settled there by violent means. Its protagonists are endowed with extraordinary physical agency and a strange resilience to bodily and psychic wounds. This volume proposes a critical analysis of adventurous violence that foregrounds narratological issues as well as their socio-historical, political, and anthropological implications. Predicated on a broad diachronic perspective that challenges simple generalizations, the articles presented here cover a wide array of genres from ancient romance to the swashbuckling novel and a variety of contexts ranging from early modern state-building to colonialism, imperialism, and modern warfare.

The year 1801 marked an important year for Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling's (1775-1854) philosophical thought. It saw the publication of Schelling's Presentation of My System of Philosophy which would stand as the marker of a new era of idealism, that Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770-1831) would coin as objective idealism. The 1801 Presentation represents a clear shift away from Schelling's seminal System of Transcendental Idealism; and the official beginning of Schelling's own Identity Philosophy which occurred through several major works from 1801 to 1806. The Presentation also characterizes a decisive genesis in Schelling's mature metaphysics of identity. The metaphysics of identity's central aim was to capture the concept of absolute identity realized as the totality of the cosmos. Using Spinoza's (1632-1677) Ethics as his guide and model, Schelling revealed a meticulous systematic philosophy that offered distinct propositions and definitions, each following one another to develop an elaborate organic whole. However, the works that makeup Schelling's identity philosophy would receive a series of philosophical backlashes from several of his interlocuters, which included: Karl August von Eschenmayer (1768-1852), Johann Gottlieb Fichte (1762-1814) and Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel. This criticism would reach forward into the contemporary scholarship. The accusations made against Schelling were directed at his monistic system and surrounded his conception of the absolute. According to Schelling's critics, his systematic concept of the absolute swallowed reality into a homogenous whole leaving no room for philosophical difference. These erroneous accusations would have several implications which would cast a long shadow on Schelling's identity philosophy with the infamous remarks describing Schelling's project eclipsed in the dark night of the absolute. The following paper is divided in two main parts. The first, will evaluate the historical context and philosophical importance behind the structure of Schelling's 1801 Presentation. The second, will addresses Schelling's numerous critics and attempt to explicate the essence behind Schelling's C. Satoor-75 metaphysics of identity. This paper will thus conclude by showing how difference plays an integral part for Schelling, as the realm of finitude, and the ground of all phenomena. These important parts of the whole system are connected in a subterranean like fashion in primordial identity. Thus, grounding Schelling's own novel, philosophical creation, an identity-monism.

This paper addresses the question of how nature should be philosophically studied within a Hegelian framework. The focus is epistemological: it examines the relationship between philosophy and the empirical sciences in the constitution of natural categories. I argue that this relationship is neither strictly a priori nor strictly a posteriori but unfolds through a speculative interplay between an a priori philosophical principle of unity and an a posteriori attentiveness to empirical discovery. To support this view, I engage with prominent positions in the secondary literature – namely, Alison Stone’s strong a priorism and John Burbidge’s a posteriorism. After addressing two key problems in these interpretations, I show how both mistakenly attempt to read Hegel’s Philosophy of Nature through the rigid Kantian dichotomy of a priori and a posteriori, which speculative thought seeks to overcome. Drawing on the work of Brigitte Falkenburg, Cinzia Ferrini, and Sebastian Rand, I propose that natural categories should be understood as the result of empirical content that is reorganized, a posteriori, in accordance with an a priori principle of systematic unity. This interpretation not only aligns with Hegel’s own texts but also highlights the dynamic and active character of his philosophy.

The volume offers a different image of classical German philosophy with special reference to the topic of forms of knowledge. Concepts like "cognition," "knowing," and "belief" find their explication within different speculative frameworks and are investigated in more and less well-known authors, including but not limited to Fichte, Schelling, Hegel, Fries, Eschenmeyer, and W. Humboldt.

Abstract of the talk: Hegels anhaltende Auseinandersetzung mit Jacobi prägt auch einen seiner letzten Berliner Kurse: die Vorlesungen von 1829 über die Beweise vom Dasein Gottes – ein Kurs, der zwischen Logik und Religionsphilosophie steht, ohne sich auf eine von beiden reduzieren zu lassen. Die leitende These des Beitrags lautet, dass dieser Kurs durch das von Hegel in seiner Heidelberger Rezension von 1817 anerkannte Verdienst Jacobis motiviert ist, „die Notwendigkeit einer völlig veränderten Ansicht des Logischen“ begründet zu haben. A proposta neste trabalho é abordar o problema do erro na filosofia de Christian Wolff, isto é, como ele considera o erro e por quais razões o mesmo deve (e como pode) ser evitado. Levando-se em conta as dificuldades de analisar todo o arco de desenvolvimento em que este filósofo implica seus conceitos, a estratégia neste trabalho será traçar um esboço acerca de como a noção de erro aparece na Deutsche Logik, publicada inicialmente em 1713, para depois elaborar alguns apontamentos acerca de outros momentos em que esta noção aparece nas obras de Wolff. Em especial, precisa ser melhor elaborada a questão em torno da definição do erro fornecida em termos modais: se erramos quando consideramos possível algo impossível ou impossível algo possível, isso parece ressoar em noções como a de “ente”, isto é, aquilo que é ou pode ser, que está incluído na esfera do possível.

¿Considera Hume que la filosofía es una actividad exclusivamente masculina? La posibilidad de que las mujeres desarrollen actividades filosóficas no se vislumbra claramente en las obras de Hume. Por un lado, en su teoría de la naturaleza humana no encontramos sesgos de género innatos ni hay en su teoría del conocimiento aptitudes cognitivas privativas de los varones que los habiliten como los únicos filósofos legítimos. Pero, por otro, al atender a factores culturales, políticos y económicos —lo que Hume llama “causas morales”— encontramos que hay diversos impedimentos para la participación plena de las mujeres en el ámbito de la erudición. Mi propósito es mostrar que para Hume esas causas pueden modificarse. El surgimiento de una sociedad comercial es un indicativo de ese cambio. Does Hume regard philosophy as an activity restricted to men only? The possibility of women being philosophers does not appear clearly in Hume’s texts. On the one hand, there are no innate gender biases in his theory of human nature nor cognitive abilities in his theory of knowledge, which signal men as the only legitimate philosophers. On the other hand, when we look at cultural, political, and economic factors – what Hume calls “moral causes”– we find that there are numerous impediments to the full participation of women in the learned world. However, I aim to show that Hume believes these causes can be modified. The rise of a new commercial society offers greater opportunities for women both to participate in the public sphere and to deploy their cognitive capacity in intellectual activities.

Hegel’s Diary (1785–1787) With Explanatory Footnotes, translated by Simon Gros presents the only surviving journal of Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, born August 27, 1770. Between the ages of fourteen and seventeen, while a student at the Stuttgart Gymnasium, Hegel recorded his daily readings, reflections on Lutheran doctrine and Enlightenment debates, academic exercisesand private study, as well as personal observations about tutors and friends. This translation renders Hegel’s late-eighteenth-century German into clear, contemporary English. Each entry carries concise explanatory footnotes that clarify historical figures, theological concepts, local customs and early encounters with Greek and Latin. This edition contains over two hundred dated entries from June 1785 through January 1787 and many footnotes—essential for anyone tracing Hegel’s formative years, historians of Classical German Philosophy or readers intrigued by the early thoughts of a future philosophical master.

In what sense can human beings be conceived of as social beings? I argue that sociality is not merely an attribute of the species to which we belong; rather, the way in which we belong to our own life-form is itself socially mediated. To bring this other sense of sociality into view, the article (I) distinguishes the logical sociality of all living beings from the material sociality of social animals and the political sociality of self-conscious social animals. (II) The political sociality characterising human beings requires a complex second-personal articulation through which alone we can exist as members of our life-form and determine its content. (III) Constituted in this way, the human form of life is characterized by a particularly open and at the same time precarious character. (IV) Against this background, forms of objective spirit are necessary which grant us a generalized recognition and relieve us from the contingency of particular second-personal recognitions, without abandoning the openness of the sociality of the human form of life. This double requirement has led to paradoxical institutions in modern society which strive to protect and ensure the sociality of the human form of life precisely by naturalising and individualising our access to it.

Johann Gottlieb Fichte presents his writings in two sections: Whilst the Doctrine of Science (Wissenschaftslehre), in the sequence of its different elaborations from the early Jena period to the later Berlin period, is the central point of reference in his theoretical philosophy, the works on issues such as his conceptions of nature, anthropology, moral philosophy and ethics, politics, economy, history, or religion -including the exoteric writings addressing the general public such as the Addresses to the German Nation -obviously are part of what one rather would understand as practical philosophy. This external division, however, does not imply that one could separate these two sides in the form of an abstract dualism: It is, on the contrary, rather from the very beginning onward that, in the post-Kantian context, Fichte is concerned with the challenge of how to systematically-methodologically bring together theory and its practical 'application,' thinking and acting, ideality and reality. For Fichte, philosophy is not just empirically but intrinsically connected with historical time, i.e., with the present epoch facing, in the aftermath of the French Revolution, the beginning of political modernity and its challenges, including all the practical needs and interests inscribed in this present time -hereby articulating, as the title of his philosophy of history prominently has it, The Characteristics of the Present Age. As well as the Doctrine of Science, strictly following the methodological path of its own logic, is characterized by a performative dimension according to which systematic thinking realizes itself, out of the very immanence of its systematicity, as a practical activity engaging 'our' own participation, the portions of Fichte's philosophy that address practical interests cannot be separated from the theoretical foundation. Constituting a complex unity, the two spheres are connected throughout, resulting in an overall structure and process in which theoretical philosophy -precisely as theoretical philosophy -is practical, forced to realize itself, and in which, at the same time, practical philosophy embodies and performs the systematic core of theoretical reflection instead of being its merely external application. The present collection aims to focus on this complex constellation and, for this purpose, invites contributions dwelling on the unity of theoretical and practical philosophy in Fichte from various perspectives. Contributions may include -but do not have to be limited to -the following areas: • The immanently practical, ethical-political character of Fichte's Doctrine of Science (in any of its elaborations), resp. of his entire systematic conception. • The systematic place and function of Fichte's conceptions of practical issues such as ethics, politics, or history and the unity and tension between ideality and reality hereby at stake. • Connections between the transcendental structure of philosophy and praxis in Fichte and/or, with a focus on Fichte, in other philosophers. • Fichte's conceptions of nature, of body and embodiment, of moral and political acting, of history, art, or religion as constitutive links between ideality and reality. • Different aspects of the relationships between idealism and realism in Fichte and, focusing on Fichte, in German Idealism in general.

This paper examines the concept of “Aufhebung” in Hegel’s philosophy and its critique by Marx. Through a hermeneutic and exegetical reconstruction of key texts by Hegel, Feuerbach, and Marx, the study explores how Aufhebung understood as overcoming, structures the dialectical movement of reality within Hegel’s idealism. Marx reinterprets this notion from a materialist perspective, criticizing its conservative implications and reframing it as the practical abolition of alienating social conditions. The analysis shows that the concept of sublation plays a pivotal role both in Hegel’s dialectic and in Marx’s critical inversion of it, highlighting the fundamental tension between idealism and materialism, speculative thought and revolutionary praxis. The paper concludes that Aufhebung is not only a core theoretical operator in both systems, but also a conceptual key to understanding modern debates on history, freedom, and social transformation.

Este trabajo analiza el concepto de "asunción" (Aufhebung) en el pensamiento de Hegel y su crítica por parte de Marx. A través de una reconstrucción hermenéutica y exegética de textos clave de Hegel, Feuerbach y Marx, se muestra cómo la Aufhebung, entendida como asunción, articula el movimiento dialéctico de la realidad en la filosofía idealista hegeliana. Marx reinterpreta esta noción en clave materialista, denunciando su función conservadora y proponiendo su resignificación como cancelación práctica de las condiciones sociales alienantes. El estudio evidencia que el concepto de asunción constituye un eje central en la dialéctica hegeliana y en su crítica marxiana, y permite comprender las tensiones entre idealismo y materialismo, así como entre pensamiento especulativo y praxis revolucionaria. Se concluye que la Aufhebung no solo estructura los sistemas filosóficos de Hegel y Marx, sino que condensa la disputa moderna en torno a la historia, la libertad y la transformación social.

This paper examines the concept of educational formation (Bildung) in Hegel’s philosophy through an analysis of the Gymnasium Discourses delivered in Nuremberg between 1808 and 1815. These discourses provide insight into how Hegel connects his notion of Bildung with the ethical-political aims of the modern state and with the role of subjectivity in the educational process. It is argued that Hegel conceives the school institution as a mediation between the particularity of the individual and the universality of ethical life, and that the content of education should aim at the rational self-consciousness of the subject as an active member of the community. The paper concludes that Hegelian Bildung is far from a mere transmission of knowledge; rather, it entails a substantive transformation of subjectivity, inseparable from the individual’s integration into the rational order of the community.

Este trabajo examina el concepto de formación educativa (Bildung) en la filosofía de Hegel a partir de un análisis de los Discursos del Gimnasio pronunciados en Núremberg entre 1808 y 1815. A través de estos discursos, se reconstruye el modo en que Hegel articula su concepción de la Bildung con los fines ético-políticos del Estado moderno y con el lugar de la subjetividad en el proceso educativo. Se argumenta que Hegel concibe la institución escolar como mediación entre la particularidad del individuo y la universalidad de la vida ética, y que el contenido de la formación debe orientarse a la autoconciencia racional del sujeto como miembro activo de la comunidad. El trabajo concluye que, lejos de una simple transmisión de conocimientos, la Bildung hegeliana implica una transformación sustancial de la subjetividad, inseparable de la integración del individuo en el orden racional de la comunidad.

The present work aims to examine the relevance of the concept of
formation (Bildung). A historical-hermeneutical path is proposed around
two historical stages: Modernity and Postmodernity. Its characteristics,
connections and differences are explained schematically. This text plans to open a new discussion around the possibility of thinking the present from non-alienating logics. The central thesis defended by this paper proposes that the concept of formation outlined in Hegel’s Phenomenology of Spirit allows us to reflect on the present from a hermeneutical perspective different from the current one. That is, not from an analytical logic but a speculative logic that shows the possible conditions for overcoming it. Bildung lies the very experience of a negative increasing path, that is, of a dialectical dynamic. It is the process of formation of consciousness in its elevation towards science, that is, the experience of a dialectical journey where consciousness is estranged in exteriority to recover and rediscover itself. In order to unravel the conceptual content of the aforementioned notion and identify the register in which it is being used, the exposition will follow a hermeneutic analysis of the different interpretations made regarding the notion by contemporary specialists and an exegesis of selected passages from the Phenomenology.

El presente trabajo se propone examinar la actualidad del concepto de
formación (Bildung). Se plantea un recorrido histórico-hermenéutico
alrededor de dos etapas históricas: la Modernidad y la Posmodernidad.
Esquemáticamente se explicitan sus características, sus conexiones y sus
diferencias. Este escrito proyecta abrir una nueva discusión en torno a la
posibilidad de pensar el presente desde lógicas no enajenantes. La tesis
central que defiende este escrito propone que el concepto de formación
esbozado en la Fenomenología del Espíritu de Hegel permite reflexionar
sobre el presente desde una perspectiva hermenéutica distinta a la actual.
Es decir, no desde una lógica analítica sino una lógica especulativa que
muestra las posibles condiciones de su superación. Bildung mienta la
experiencia misma de un recorrido negativo incrementador, es decir de
una dinámica dialéctica. Es el proceso de formación de la conciencia en su elevación hacia la ciencia, esto es, la experiencia de un camino dialéctico donde la conciencia se extraña en la exterioridad para recuperarse y reencontrarse. A fin de desentrañar el contenido conceptual de la mentada noción e identificar el registro en que se está utilizando, la exposición seguirá un análisis hermenéutico de las distintas interpretaciones realizadas con respecto a la noción desde los especialistas contemporáneos y una exégesis de pasajes seleccionados de la Fenomenología.

Esta tesis propone que la conciencia del determinismo, al ser vivida epistemológicamente, permite la emergencia de una intuición intelectual (Conciencia del clinamen interno), esta intuición no es un simple acto racional, sino un punto de ruptura en el encadenamiento causal tradicional, que otorga al sujeto la posibilidad de co-crear sentido. Que inevitablemente viene acompañado de un constructivismo interno que usa como herramiento un lenguaje privado (propio), que no niega su validez por estar aislado, sino que adquiere una función generativa y no representacional. Bien, ahora en vez de buscar verificar el lenguaje privado por medios externos (como lo hace Wittgenstein), yo Marco A. Luna A. ofrezco un giro no Copernicano sino un giro cuántico, donde el lenguaje privado se justifica no como lenguaje convencional, sino como dispositivo epistémico generador de sentido. Donde el Clinamen interno es esa mínima desviación que justifica que el sujeto cree nuevas reglas desde sí mismo. Este marco permite conciliar el determinismo con la contingencia, donde establece una base ontológica flexible donde la realidad no es algo fijo por fuera del sujeto, sino co-construida.

Con ello se resuelve el dilema del lenguaje privado, al redefinirlo como lenguaje de fundación, no de comunicación. En este sentido la misión que sigue ahora es profundizar en esta forma de concebir el lenguaje.

Im Laufe seiner juristischen Tätigkeit privatisierte Schulz irgendwann und trat vor allem als Theaterkritiker in Erscheinung. Sein Pseudonym lautete: Eulalia Meinau. Schulz war Mitglied der von Achim von Arnim gegründeten Christlich-deutschen Tischgesellschaft, zu der u.a. Clemens Brentano, Fichte, Kleist, Adam Muller gehörten. Schulz schrieb Theaterkritiken zunächst für die Zeitschrift "Brennus, eine Zeitschrift fur das nördliche Deutschland", 2 dann in den von Heinrich von Kleist herausgegeben "Berliner Abendblättern 1810/1811-abwechselnd u.a. mit Kleist und Achim von Arnim-3 , schliesslich in der Haude-Spenerischen Zeitung-abwechselnd u.a. mit v. Arnim. Die Theaterkritiken der letzten Gruppe hebt Goethe lobend hervor: " Die Rezensionen der Haude"-und Spenerischen Zeitung mag ich gerne lesen" schreibt er am 18.1.1826 an Zelter. 1827 notiert Goethe in seinem Tagebuch: " ich las die Geschichte des Berliner Theaters von Friedrich Schulz" 4. Auf dem Hintergrund der Verbindung des letzteren mit dem Theater erklärt sich dessen Spitzname Theater-Schulz. In der Reihe "Kunst und Altertum" von 1823 Zeichnet Goethe Schulz zweimal aus-allerdings ohne Namensnennung 5. Das erste Mal heisst es :Einer aber tritt besonders hervor, dem das Gluck die Gunst erwies, dass er lange her gedenkt". Nach Goethe interessiert sich Schulz sowohl für das" Ganze" als auch für das " Einzelne", fur das Vergangene, um es anschaulich mit dem " wirklich Gegenwärtigen" zu vergleichen. Gerade diese Komponenten bilden für Goethe die notwendige Voraussetzung für einen erfolgreichen Zugang zur Kunst 6. In der zweiten Erwahnung bezeichnet Goethe Schulz als " Sinnesgenossen", dem er im Hinblick auf das Theater nicht nur eine 50-Jährige Erfahrung bestätigt, sondern auch ein " geistreiches Urteil", das er in " gehaltvollen Worten", " recht anmutig walten" lasse. In diesem Zusammenhang äussert er die Hoffnung, dass Schulz noch lange mit seiner Tatigkeit fortfahren möge.7 1824 zählte Schulz zu Goethes Geburtstagsgästen. 8 Da sich mit hoher Wahrscheinlichkeit auch Hegel unter den Geburtstagsgästen befand, dürfte seine Bekanntschaft mit Schulz zumindest seit diesem Zeitpunkt bestanden haben.Goethes Lob für Schulz muss Hegel bekannt gewesen sein, denn er las und schätzte die Reihe " Kunst und Altertum", wie aus seinem Briefwechsel, aber auch aus den Vorlesungen über Ästhetik hervorgeht 9. Doch Hegel las diese Reihe nicht nur, vielmehr teilte er Goethe ahnliche Stellen aus anderen Kontexten mit 10. Hegel stellt in seiner Ästhetik Kotzebue und Goethe angesichts des Verhältnisses der Innerlichkeit und der zu ihr gehorenden Ausserlichkeit gegeneinander. Aufgabe der Kunst ist es nach Hegel, das geistige Innere, die absolute Idee, adäquat im Äusserlichen, in der Sinnlichkeit, darzustellen. Diese Aufgabe wird allerdings nicht nur in der Ästhetik formuliert, vielmehr besitzt sie für das gesamte auf der Wissenschaft der Logik aufbauende System Gültigkeit. In der Logik ist es der absolute Begriff, der sich seine adäquate Realität verschafft, um sich als Idee zu gestalten 11[…]. Während Kotzebue bei der Äusserlichkeit lediglich zu einer alltäglichen, banalen Wirklichkeit gelange, womit er gerade den " Zweck der Kunst" verfehle, sei Goethe zu einer der " schönsten" Darstellungen des Verhältnissen von Innerem und Äusserem vorgedrungen. 12 Was dagegen die Beurteilung der Romantik anbelangt, so werden sich bei Hegel und Schulz gegensätzliche Urteile eingestellt haben. Während Schulz eindeutig zur Gruppe Arnim, Brentano und Kleist gehört 13, besitzt Hegel gerade zu dieser Gruppe ein eher distanziertes, wenn nicht sogar negatives Verhältnis. The core hypothesis of this inquiry consists of the following thesis: Schellingian legal thought constitutes a kind of legal anarchism which represents a specific form of theocratic eschatology. If it is correct to assert that, on the one hand, Schelling constantly elaborates and reformulates an ontology adept at the foundation of the Rechtslehre, it is equally true that, on the other hand, it is legal anarchism which orients the speculative direction of ontology itself. Thus, legal anarchism as politics of ontology is eminenter that particular configuration of intersubjective relationships, and, specifically, of those between the individual and the legal order of State, which represents itself as a precise theocratic self-foundation, namely a sort of anarchist and mystical society which lives inside the political reality, but, at the same time, considers itself as beyond the State and its law.

Following the explosion that was the 1780s Pantheism Controversy, the issue of pantheism and its philosophical implications became a focal point of Classical German Philosophy. In the footsteps of Lessing, a new generation of thinkers – Goethe, Herder, Schleiermacher, Schelling, Hegel – enthusiastically embraced a pantheistic conception of God as hen kai pan (one and all), sparking an intense debate on the place of the human person within an encompassing absolute whole – be it nature or the absolute I. This apparent tension between the finite person and the pantheistic whole provoked a diverse set of issues and responses. Does the rejection of human personhood follow from the rejection of a personal God? Should we embrace impersonal unification with the divine All as a theoretical, spiritual or practical ideal? Is a personal God required to safeguard human freedom and individuality and to avoid nihilism? Can human and divine personhood survive in a totalizing philosophical system?

In this workshop, we will focus on systematic responses to the tension between person and pantheism within Classical German Philosophy, with a particular focus on Schelling, Jacobi, and Fichte. The purpose of the workshop is to explore this theme from a variety of angles, benefiting from international expertise on different key figures during a small-scale, intensive in-person event. We have chosen to examine the concept of personhood specifically, as it illuminates the connection between conceptions of God and the human being. This approach may better pinpoint the core issues in the debate on pantheism than, say, the concept of freedom, which is championed on all sides of the debate. Our aim is to pay particular attention to religious and existential aspects, as questions surrounding immanence and transcendence and the purpose of the human person deeply inform the philosophical debate on pantheism, and may reveal what is truly at stake in it.

Al proyectar esta investigación, pues, nuestro objetivo inicial era explicar y explicarnos por qué ciertos pasajes de Pierre Bayle, un autor al que apenas empezábamos a leer, despertaban el recuerdo casi inmediato de Philo, el personaje escéptico de los Dialogues, al cual habíamos aprendido a interpretar como “vocero” de las ideas de David Hume. El resultado es éste, considerablemente engrosado a medida que íbamos haciéndonos cargo, y cediendo al atractivo, del pensamiento que descubríamos. Ya se nos había advertido. Una aproximación preliminar a las obras de Bayle suele generar cierto reparo: por su volumen, por su índole laberíntica, por su “dialéctica binaria”, como dirá André Robinet. Pero una vez metidos en ellas, se corre el riesgo de quedar gustosamente atrapado por las redes de datos eruditos, detalles biográficos y pacientes argumentos que segrega su autor. Sucede en forma especial con el Dictionnaire, un “drama con héroes y villanos”, en expresión de Richard Popkin, por el cual desfilan todas las preocupaciones intelectuales del siglo XVII. Este encuentro, unido a la conciencia de estar mostrando un filósofo escasamente conocido en lengua española, hizo que el análisis de la “herramienta”, por decirlo así, terminara por abarcar casi el setenta por ciento del recorrido. Esperamos que las páginas que siguen logren transmitir algo del interés que nos fue llevando a tal modificación.
Organizamos el estudio en dos partes. La primera, de seis capítulos, está íntegramente dedicada a Pierre Bayle. La segunda, de tres capítulos, se ocupa del influjo que el autor del Dictionnaire pudo tener en los escritos de David Hume. Nuestra guía será siempre el problema del mal en cuanto objeción racional a la creencia en el Dios cristiano. Los capítulos de la primera parte se ordenan de la siguiente manera. El primero, llamado “La realidad del mal”, procura sacar a luz las raíces existenciales que tienen las reflexiones de Pierre Bayle, reflexiones que con frecuencia han sido descriptas como meros juegos dialécticos de una mente despreocupada. Para combatir esa interpretación, reconstruimos mínimamente algunos de los acontecimientos familiares y políticos por los que transita Pierre Bayle y el modo cómo dichos acontecimientos se refleja en sus páginas. Desde ellos, nos parece, se entiende mejor el rechazo exasperado que exhiben estas páginas frente a las “soluciones” de una teología racionalista que pretende confortar, e incluso corregir, el sufrimiento desde una especulación abstracta. Continuando con esta idea, tratamos también de incorporar otros elementos que Bayle recibe de la tradición calvinista en la que fue educado y que lo apoyan en su visión de la naturaleza y la historia, dominada por la experiencia del dolor y del pecado.
Presentado este fondo religioso de las ideas de Bayle, imprescindible para serle fiel a un hombre y a un siglo en el que, como ha dicho, Yvon Belaval, hasta los mismos libertinos se explican por la religión,  el segundo capítulo (“El mal frente a Dios”) se encarga básicamente de seguir los cambios que registra nuestro autor en su evaluación de la respuesta que da Malebranche al problema del mal. Veremos así la adhesión que manifiesta inicialmente a la teoría malebranchiana de las leyes generales, las debilidades que progresivamente va descubriendo en esa teoría con la ayuda de Antoine Arnauld, y su crítica última y definitiva a la misma a partir de una relación entre los atributos divinos de bondad y sabiduría que considera racionalmente inaceptable y religiosamente no cristiana. En este capítulo también nos ocupamos, por último, de la vinculación -o la falta de vinculación- entre Bayle y Malebranche a propósito de la crítica a la concepción clásica del mal como “privatio boni”.
El capítulo tercero está concentrado en lo que se conoce como “las objeciones maniqueas”, es decir, las objeciones que Bayle elabora en el Dictionnaire y en obras posteriores para sacar a luz las debilidades de las teorías contemporáneas en sus justificaciones de los males morales y físicos. Su crítica tiene por objetivo último subrayar que el monismo teológico no ofrece solución para esos males, al menos si pretende dar cuenta de ellos y salvar al mismo tiempo todos los atributos divinos; de ahí el nombre de las objeciones, propuestas desde la perspectiva de un supuesto defensor de la hipótesis dualista. Nos ocupamos en forma sucesiva de las objeciones al origen del pecado, de las objeciones a la eternidad del Infierno y de las objeciones a los males físicos. En el desarrollo de este capítulo comenzará a vislumbrarse, además, cuál es la gran respuesta de Bayle frente al problema del mal: una respuesta específicamente anti-teológica, fundada en una fe que cree sin razones en un Dios incomprensible y porque así lo manda Su autoridad revelada.
En el cuarto capítulo, titulado “Las enseñanzas de la derrota”, se comienza por situar con más precisión el contexto de las objeciones maniqueas y el objetivo que las mismas persiguen. Para Bayle, esas objeciones son insolubles en tanto se pretenda resolverlas dentro de los límites de una disputa filosófica y con las reglas que una disputa filosófica exige. Tratamos de demostrar, así, que los argumentos que ofrece Leibniz en 1710 con los Essais de Théodicée no cumplen con aquellas reglas y, por lo tanto, no pueden considerarse como una refutación de Bayle. Esta cuestión nos sirve para adentrarnos en el examen del elemento más espinoso en la teoría bayleana: el giro mediante el cual se intenta transformar la derrota racional frente a los maniqueos en homenaje de máxima piedad a Dios, en “el triunfo de la fe”. Para descifrarlo, es preciso examinar primero qué conceptos de razón y de fe supone Bayle, y a partir de allí por qué concluye que la relación entre una y otra no puede ser sino de enfrentamiento directo. El resultado, como hemos sugerido, es un fideísmo “ciego”; doctrina no enteramente extraña a la tradición reformada, pero que este caso parece hacer demasiadas concesiones a la razón para resultar sostenible.
El capítulo quinto, que hemos titulado “Contra los teólogos” en un pequeño homenaje a Sexto Empírico, intenta comprender la crítica de Bayle a las teodiceas de su tiempo como parte de una crítica más amplia a la totalidad del proyecto teológico. A partir del artículo más famoso del Dictionnaire, el dedicado a Pirrón de Elis, se reconstruyen los argumentos escépticos que apoyan esa crítica a la “ciencia divina” y las conclusiones extremas que Bayle deriva de la misma. De esta manera, se puede observar que el papel que cumplían antes las objeciones maniqueas frente a las “pruebas” de la existencia de un Dios omnipotente y bondadoso, lo cumple también la “objeción estratonista” frente al argumento del designio. Son objeciones escépticas cuya función es socavar los fundamentos racionales de la creencias religiosas. No para destruir éstas, según Bayle, sino para enseñar a la ambición explicativa de los teólogos la distancia infranqueable que existe entre creer y conocer. El ejemplo de poeta Simónides nos mostrará, al final del capítulo, una especie de teología negativa que representaría para Bayle la versión ilustrada de la “verdadera fe”.
El capítulo sexto, el último de esta primera parte, se detiene en dos aspectos distintos, aunque vinculados entre sí. Las dos primeras secciones procuran analizar la teoría de la creencia religiosa que propone Bayle, una vez que se han descartado los presuntos fundamentos racionales de la misma. Esa teoría tiene una base netamente psicológica, dado que el autor del Dictionnaire hace intervenir en ella un conjunto de factores heterogéneos –desde la costumbre a la gracia- que sólo resultan homologables en cuanto son no racionales y en cuanto son no voluntarios. La creencia religiosa resulta, pues, un efecto cuyas causas son variadas, y en última instancia indiscernibles. “Sólo Dios es capaz de escrutar los corazones”, dice Bayle; las dos últimas secciones del capítulo intentan aprovechar las extraordinarias consecuencias políticas de este principio. Primero examinamos cómo el dato (inatacable e indefendible) de la pertenencia a un credo religioso le sirve a nuestro autor para derivar una justificación original del carácter inviolable de la conciencia y de la necesaria tolerancia entre las diferentes confesiones. Conectamos estas ideas, después, con una de sus tesis más conocidas, la que defiende la posibilidad de una sociedad de ateos.
La segunda parte, como quedó dicho, está consagrada al posible influjo de las ideas de Bayle en el pensamiento de Hume. Consta de tres capítulos y lleva por título general “El mal y la ‘hipótesis religiosa’ según David Hume”. El primero de estos capítulos, el séptimo en la totalidad del trabajo, titulado “Hume, lector de Pierre Bayle”, hace un  breve repaso de la influencia ya detectada a propósito del Treatise on Human Nature y se detiene después en una notas de lectura del filósofo escocés conocidas como “early memoranda”. No se tiene certeza de la época a que corresponden, pero, en cualquier caso, estas notas tienen un gran valor para nuestro proyecto, puesto que permiten demostrar que Hume pudo haber tomado de los escritos de Bayle varias ideas que cumplen un papel importante dentro de su crítica a la teología natural. En los “early memoranda” se destacan dos preocupaciones fundamentales: la hipótesis estratonista y el problema del mal. Estas cuestiones, algunos años después, serán parte esencial en el desarrollo de los Dialogues.
El octavo capítulo, bajo el título de “Los Diálogos sobre religión natural”, se dedica al examen de las primeras once partes de esa obra de Hume. Nuestro objetivo, como se comprenderá, no es ofrecer, ni mucho menos, un análisis exhaustivo. Apoyándonos en interpretaciones reconocidas, seguimos únicamente las intervenciones de Philo, el personaje escéptico. Yo había ingresado para formar parte del personal de la biblioteca y, más o menos contemporáneamente, Margarita se hizo cargo de Filosofía Moderna, que había quedado sin profesor responsable. En ese momento yo estaba precisamente cursando el tercer año de la carrera y, por esa razón, me correspondía inscribirme en Filosofía Moderna. No obstante, ya había trabado conocimiento con ella un poco antes, ya que, como mi tarea en el Departamento era la de inventariar todo su patrimonio bibliográfico, que era considerable, Margarita aprovechaba mi conocimiento de primera mano de la ubicación de los libros para solicitarme la búsqueda de títulos no tan fáciles de hallar, porque no todo el patrimonio bibliográfico del departamento había pasado por el proceso de catalogación y mucho menos las revistas. Así fue como comencé a conocer no sólo a la académica, sino también a la persona, con todo el despliegue de ingenio, cordialidad y gentileza, con toques de fina ironía, de que hacía gala Margarita. Son inolvidables sus ingeniosas y chispeantes conversaciones con otros docentes del Departamento, como Emilio Estiú, Mario Presas y Ezequiel de Olaso, para nombrar algunos. Tomando como referência o desafio metodológico enfrentado por Schiller, este artigo discute a opinião de que a Filosofia da Ilustração (idealismo, classicismo e romantismo) representa o esforço da intelligentsia alemã em realizar uma tarefa imposta pela Kritik der reinen Vernunft [1787] de Kant. Nesse sentido, Schiller tenta, contra os limites transcendentais da Kritik der Urteilskraft [1790], encontrar o princípio de objetividade da beleza. Na verdade, com seu projeto estético político, Schiller, por meio da beleza, pretende promover a síntese entre as forças racionais e sensíveis do ser, pois, somente assim, acredita ele, pode-se efetivar o pleno desenvolvimento antropológico e a verdadeira liberdade política do homem.

Since the greek philosophy to the present day, the unilateral anthropological conception has prevailed that privileges rationality to the detriment physical, sensitive and emotional nature. In this theoretical horizon, this research starts from the hypothesis that Schiller's aesthetic philosophy assumes completely a original position on this question, which remains as the most fundamental question of Philosophy, that is, what is man? In this sense, this work has as démarche the fact that Schiller constitutes, as Hegel recognizes, a new concept of Ideal Art as a solution to the main problem of his time, as known, the realization of "true political Freedom". However, it draws attention to the fact that the Schiller's concepts of Art and Beauty (Schönheit) seem to be methodologically deduced from the nature of an ideal artistic Genius, which, in turn, also refers to the concept of Ideal Humanity. Moreover, this research raises the hypothesis that the Beauty, for having assumed the role of a transcendental moral principle, reveals that Art, rather than representing a mere and "pure instrument" for political education (politische Erziehung), serves Schiller for the foundation of a new anthropology. In this sense, this research also proposes the task of understanding the anthropological-moral content that Art assumes in Schiller's aesthetics. In other words, this investigation intends to discover what allowed the philosopher to convert the Beauty into a "regulative principle." With this purpose, it starts from the assumption that the transcendental thesis of the "conflicts of the antinomies of pure reason", as well as the methodological strategy used to solve them, provide the evidence of an unprecedented path that Schiller walked from the trails opened by the old Kant with his Kritik der reinen Vernunft.

Los especialistas suelen identificar ingredientes escépticos en la obra de Rousseau. Así, entre otros, Pierre Burgelin observa que su método de análisis es "deliberadamente antinómico", las nociones "se le ofrecen en pares de opuestos" y siempre que "ha avanzado mucho en una dirección, el sobrecogimiento que experimenta al descubrir la otra cara de las cosas, lo arroja bruscamente en la dirección contraria" 1 . A quienes nos dedicamos el estudio del escepticismo, esta caracterización nos remite casi inmediatamente a dos aspectos de la disposición escéptica: la antithesis entre fenómenos (apariencias) y/o noúmenos (argumentos), que produce la impresión de equivalencia o isostheneia, y el "no más esto que aquello" u ou mallon, fórmula que Emmanuel Naya considera central en el pirronismo en tanto que, conduciendo cada opinión a su contraria, "permite hablar de lo real sin dogmatizar" 2 . Ambos aspectos, en efecto, no son ajenos al movimiento del pensar de Rousseau, aunque resulten menos visibles en el interior de cada escrito que en el tránsito de uno a otro 3 y aunque, a diferencia de lo que sugiere Burgelin, acaso deban entenderse más como rasgos idiosincráticos que como partes de un método filósofico. En cualquier caso, resultan claros y numerosos los pasajes en los que Rousseau reivindica el valor de la duda como disposición filosófica por excelencia y, en la línea socrática, emparenta la sabiduría con el arte, "muy largo y muy penoso", de saber ignorar 4 .

Resumen: Uno de los debates más interesantes en torno a la razonabilidad del materialismo ateo se dio entre los siglos XVII y XVIII a partir de que el anglicano Ralph Cudworth recuperó, para confutarla, una antigua versión atribuida al peripatético Estratón de Lampsaco. Esta versión, y las ideas de Cudworth al respecto, llegan al continente por obra de Jean Le Clerc, donde rápidamente caen bajo la crítica de Pierre Bayle. Bayle, en efecto, muestra que la posición de Cudworth era menos sólida de lo que se suponía y que, por lo tanto, la hipótesis estratonista no había sido confutada ni mucho menos. David Hume, por su parte, tomó nota de este debate y lo reutilizó como parte importante de sus Dialogues concerning Natural Religion, desde donde alcanzó su más amplia difusión.
