The research employs the institutional entrepreneurship theory. It is hypothesized that, in emerging economies, MNEs presence reduces the level of corruption. Furthermore, it is hypothesized that the faster the rate of increase of the number of MNEs in the country, the faster the increase of pervasive corruption level. The sample consists of seventeen emerging economies. The period of analysis extends from 2012 to 2019. The fix effect model has been applied to the panel dataset to test the model hypotheses. Results indicate that MNEs presence reduces the level of corruption in the said host emerging economies. On the contrary, the hypothesis that the higher the rate of increase of the number of MNEs in the host emerging economies, the higher the level of pervasive corruption in such economies is not supported.

To achieve this goal, this paper employs a coevolutionary approach, adopting and nurturing MNEs, institutions and economic development. The paper’s goal is divided into two steps: The first step consists of the synthesis of the literature that is relevant with the coevolutionary approach, while the second involves the application of the synthesis to the emerging economy of Turkey for the period 1990–2011. Building on this foundation, the present exploratory paper’s findings indicate the following: First, economic development is a function of a dynamic process which encapsulates all the regulative and normative aspects of an economy and the interaction of exogenous and endogenous forces. Second, the Turkish economy, during the 1990– 2001 and the 2008–201...

It illustrates how international experience and institutional distance affect the way an entry-strategy is formed, and the procedure followed -mode learning, mode inertia, mode dynamics. To do so, it synthesizes the literature review within the framework of . This paper's modifications are empirically tested through a sample of 408 foreign equity investments. The econometric testing method implemented is that of Binary Logistic Regression. The period of investigation extends between 2011 and 2017. Results indicate that MNEs entering the Turkish secondary and tertiary Turkish sectors tend to utilize past entry mode strategies. Furthermore, the higher the past mode strategy is for an MNE, then it is 4.4 more possible for them to choose a wholly owned subsidiary.

This main objective is split into two complementary intentions: first, the transformation of CAGE to ―CIGE‖ distance framework. And, second, the approach of ―CIGE‖ through the reconciliation of the TCA and Institutional theory. The context of the present analysis is emerging markets, since such economies frame the emerging organizational arrangements, practices and structures within which firms operate. The basic argument of the paper is that entry strategies in emerging markets will be affected by both transaction and institutional considerations. The paper contributes to the existing literature by conceptualizing entry-mode choice via a pluralistic, in terms of distance, framework. It is hypothesized that, under crisis conditions, institutional distance has a negative impact and economic distance a positive one on the FDI attraction of countries hit by crisis. The sample consists of 85 US foreign expansion cases to five Eurozone countries, namely, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Spain and Portugal, concluded between 2009 and 2018. The random effect model has been applied to the panel data set to test the model hypotheses. Results indicate that economic distance has a statistically significant negative effect on US outflows to Eurozone economies. Furthermore, institutional distance, also has a negative effect on such outflows.

The exploratory research's aim is threefold: first, to examine the costs geographic and economic distance produce. Second, to reconcile such costs with those borne by cultural and institutional distance. Third, to present the reconciliation of the above in a holistic conceptual distance framework, CAGE, suggesting a new itemization of CAGE distance framework. The paper is grounded on the argument that institutional and cultural distance produce liability of foreignness costs and argues that geographic and economic distance produce spatial communication and coordination costs. The conceptual pillar of the research is based on the reconciliation of Institutional theory with Transaction Cost Analysis. Joint Ventures are employed to emphasize the relationship between distance and costs. The core proposition of the paper is developed on the following: the higher the cultural, institutional, geographic and economic distance, the higher the likelihood for MNEs to succumb to JVs. Conclusions analytically elaborate on analysis, while conceptual and managerial implications are developed, suggesting avenues for future research.

The paper contributes to the existing literature by conceptualizing entry-mode choice via a pluralistic, in terms of distance, framework. It introduces institutional distance into CAGE and approaches institutional distance as a ‗reservoir' of different institutional aspects that take into account challenges related to different institutional voids caused by various intermediaries. It integrates the reconciliation of TCA and Institutional theory into a unified distance setting in order to create a genuine interactive and dynamic conceptual basis on which TCA and institutional theory can apply. Last, it presents conceptual and managerial implications that open up new avenues for future empirical research. JEL Classification: L22, L220, L24, L240

It then tests how the new CIGE framework is affected by two entry mode choices considering the emerging economy of Turkey. In addition, it approaches geographic distance through historical ties and kilometer differences, examining their role on the relationship proposed. The sample consists of 245 foreign equity investments concluded between 2002 and 2010 by investors from European Union Member States and 21 non-European Union countries. Results show that institutional distance affects both the entry mode choice and all other framework variables. Furthermore, geographic distance, through historical ties and kilometer differences, emerges as significant factor influencing the various forms of FDI ownership strategy in the case of Turkey.

In this perspective, the purpose of our paper is not to provide penetrating new insights, like Cantwell et al. (2010), but to adopt and nurture them within conceptual reasoning. This main objective is split into two complementary intentions. First, to synthesize the relevant literature with the holistic and integrative theoretical framework by Cantwell et al. (2010). And second, to apply this synthesis to the emerging economy of Turkey as a useful and "sui generis" institutional setting, for the 1990-2011 period, in order to shed novel light on the functioning of institutional avoidance, institutional adaptation and institutional coevolution.
