The biggest problem faced by shrimp farmers is the bulk death of shrimps, the causes of which are... more The biggest problem faced by shrimp farmers is the bulk death of shrimps, the causes of which are various. The major cause is a decline in pond quality and pollution partly brought about by intensive production methods. Beside rivers pollution, the recent hazard that treats the Sidoarjo shrimp famers is the occurring of Hot Mud Volcanos in Porong. The mud contains several hazardous materials, such as, Hydrocarbon Sulphide, Mercury, Cadmium, Chromium, Arsenic, Phenol and some dangerous bacteria, such as, coliform, salmonella, and staphylococcus aureus. However, the authority derivate the hot mud to the nearest rivers. As result it reduces the shrimp production in Sidoarjo.
In order to study the factors that influence the Sidoarjo’ Shrimp Farmers Behaviours, Sustainable livelihood framework (SLF) employ in this research. This framework will capture the interaction of people, natural resources and institution in shaping community. In investigating people behaviours, this tool do analysis base on the vulnerability factors and gauging the degree of maximizing asset in creating livelihood strategies that develop people Belonging, togetherness, creativity, participatory and economic opportunity in create better social changes. The utilizing of SLF is to understand the changing circumstances of community those factors that cause the community natural changing.
