In den letzten Jahren hat die Photographie innerhalb der künstlerischen Medien einen neuen Höhepunkt erreicht. Ausgehend von der Düsseldorfer Schule mit Künstlern wie Andreas Gursky, Thomas Struth, Thomas Ruff oder Candida Höfer hat sich eine junge Generation von Künstlern entwickelt, die auf unterschiedliche Weise das Thema ‚Raum' und ‚Ort' im Zeichen historischer Veränderungen und sozialer Krisen aufzeigen. Mit der Ausstellung Lost Places widmet sich die Hamburger Kunsthalle diesen neuen Positionen, die in Photographie, Film und Installation verschiedenste Orte und Lebensräume und ihre zunehmende Isolierung dokumentieren.

Die Ausstellung Lost Places zeigte rund 20 unterschiedliche Positionen zeitgenössischer Photographie und Videokunst zu diesem Thema mit zahlreichen Leihgaben aus Museen und privaten Sammlungen.

Das Bewusstsein für die Hamburger Kunst und deren Bewertung variiert von den Anfängen der "Städtischen Gemälde-Gallerie" bis in die Gegenwart der Hamburger Kunsthalle sehr. Lange ist man ihr überhaupt nicht gewahr, dann definiert und schärft der erste Direktor der Hamburger Kunsthalle, Alfred Lichtwark, diese Hamburger Schule und platziert sie in der Ständigen Sammlung.
Die nachfolgenden Verantwortlichen gehen unterschiedlich mit diesem Erbe um und tun sich mitunter schwer damit. Doch nicht immer ist die Quellenlage eindeutig, oftmals fehlen genaue Pläne und Dokumentationen der einzelnen Sammlungspräsentationen. Zudem täuschen zahlreiche Ausstellungen zu thematischen Feldern der Hamburger Kunst und ihrer Protagonisten den heutigen Eindruck von der tatsächlichen Präsenz dieser Kunst in der Ständigen Sammlung. Eine Untersuchung der Sichtbarkeit und zugesprochenen Relevanz der Hamburger Malerei
in den Sammlungspräsentationen der letzten 150 Jahren
steht somit noch aus. Dies soll mit einem kursorischen Blick
nachgeholt werden, vertieft durch vereinzelte Ausflüge in die
Sammelpraxis.

Freunde der Kunsthalle e.V.
Mehrteilige Seminarreihe (2020–2021) zu aktuellen Forschungen der Dissertation, die im Promotionskolleg "PriMus – Promovieren im Museum" in Kooperation der Hamburger Kunsthalle mit der Leuphana Universität Lüneburg entsteht.

Im letzten Jahrzehnt des ausgehenden 19. Jahrhunderts war
das künstlerische OEuvre von Mary Hertz, ab 1897 verheiratete
Warburg, im Zuge zahlreicher Gruppenausstellungen für die
Hamburger Öffentlichkeit sichtbar. Während 1892 elf ihrer
Zeichnungen das Hamburger Weihnachtsbuch (D 1) illustrierten,
stellte sie sowohl in diesem als auch im Folgejahr bei Louis Bock
& Sohn, einer der renommiertesten und modernsten Galerien
Hamburgs,1 in den Großen Bleichen 34 aus. Von 1894 bis 1898
zeigte sie im jährlichen Turnus im Rahmen der Gesellschaft
Hamburgischer Kunstfreunde (GHKF) bildhauerische, zeichnerische
und malerische Werke im Börsenanbau des Kunstvereins
sowie der Hamburger Kunsthalle. Sämtliche Publikationen der
Gesellschaft – Ausstellungskataloge, Jahrbücher und die 1895
begründete Hamburgische Liebhaberbibliothek – wurden über die
Galerie Commeter vertrieben.
Mary Hertz präsentierte in diesen Jahren ihre Werke an den
prominentesten Orten der Hamburger Kunstszene. Der erste
Direktor der Hamburger Kunsthalle, Alfred Lichtwark, unterstützte
die Künstlerin in ihren Ausstellungsbeiträgen und erteilte
ihr Plakat- und Illustrationsaufträge, die auch in seine eigenen
Publikationen Einzug hielten. Diese Förderung verlor sich ab
1897, dem Jahr ihrer Eheschließung mit Aby Warburg, dem
Umzug nach Florenz und der anschließenden Geburt ihrer drei
Kinder Marietta, Max Adolph und Frede. Doch blieb Mary Mitglied
der Gesellschaft und, trotz des eher angespannten Verhältnisses
ihres Ehemannes zu Lichtwark, dem Kunsthallendirektor
persönlich eng verbunden.

ALICE LAGAAY UNIVERSITY OF BREMEN One of the playful-and therefore also deadly serious-debates that has continued to polarise discussions within and around the Performance Philosophy network since its inaugural conference in Surrey in 2013, is the question of whether, or how, or in what way, or for what reason, and with what effect, we should, or should not, "mind the gap" between the wor(l)ds 'Performance' and 'Philosophy'. There are those who argue in favour and those who argue against drawing a clear distinction between the two terms. I will not attempt to reconstruct the intricacies of the respective arguments or examine the sound reasoning on either side of this debate, nor will I begin to analyse the extent to which there might be (and probably is) some common ground between them. 1 My purpose is not to consider the content so much as the structure of this debate, namely a 'this vs. that' or 'either/or' structure, and to present this as an example of polar differentiation, which, according to the artist-philosopher, or performance philosopher, Salomo Friedlaender (1871-1946), corresponds to nothing less than the principle of all life-knowledge. Central to Friedlaender's philosophy is the recognition of the importance of a non-place, a place of neutrality, which lies at the zero point of polar differentiation, i.e. between two polarities whatever they may be. According to Friedlaender's theory, which draws most explicitly on the works of Kant and Nietzsche, this mysterious place "in between", the gap, in other words, or zone of indifferentiation, is the very place from which all polarity stems. Its principle, the force from which differentiation emerges, is what Friedlaender refers to at times as "the nought of the world" or as the "absolute", as " ∞ ", as "I" or "ego" (but in a non empirical, non subjective sense), as "heliocentre" or, most frequently and famously, as "schöpferische Indifferenz": Creative Indifference.

What Role could Presence Play in the Practices of Academia? On the performativity of theory in the context of Performance Philosophy-The dialogue discusses the role presence could be permitted to play in academic situations of co-presence with others (in comparison to the importance of presence in artistic contexts). It ponders the extent to which conventional academic forms, quite apart from seeking to guarantee objectivity in theory, actually predetermine , or in fact limit, the communicability of theoretical content. The conversation points to the need for a new dramaturgical attentiveness to the performativity of theory and calls for an innovative approach to the formats in which the questions and results concerning various fields in the humanities could be presented and negotiated more successfully.

The following text opened the conference, "The Concept of Immanence in Philosophy and the Arts", held in Vienna in May 2016. It is a reader consisting of key passages on immanence by Gilles Deleuze, Baruch de Spinoza, Giorgio Agamben, Henri Bergson, François Laruelle, Antonin Artaud and Friedrich Nietzsche. The reader was put together by Arno Böhler and Elisabeth Schäfer, and a collage of its content arranged by Susanne Valerie Granzer, who read out these text fragments at the start of the conference. Her reading was sporadically interrupted by Alice Lagaay, whose comments served to draw lines of connection between the dense theoretical texts and the performative immanent context in which they were being read and digested-the context of the conference. We present here the readings and their lighthearted-and at times deadly seriouscommentary as performed. Readers are invited to imagine and re-enact the live-ness of this event, letting their own comments, questions and musings interrupt the proposed interruptions of reading.

Theater der Versammlung ("Theatre of Assemblage"), the Centre's very own theatrical ensemble. Alice Lagaay is a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer in the Philosophy Department at Bremen University. 1 Theater der Versammlung participates in university seminars (throughout all faculties), bringing its own "experimental settings," open rehearsals and performances into proceedings in a way that has a profound pedagogical effect on the outcome of the class.

The human voice plays a crucial role within the realm of psychoanalysis on a multitude of different levels: there is, for a start, the voice of the Other that imposes itself upon the subject; and the experience of auditory hallucination, of “hearing voices” which sound as if they come from outside the subject even though they are supposedly but within. Then there is the so-called “voice of consciousness”, telling us what to do (superego); and the hypnotic voice – the original voice of the therapist – that demands submission by repeating a formula that loses all meaning by being repeated (Dolar, 1996, p.14). Yet another dimension is the problem of the mother’s voice, in its ambiguity as both nest and cage (Silverman, 1988, p.72); or the symptom of aphonia, the loss of control over one’s own voice.
