Studying the benefits provided by arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi to plants in different water regimes is an efficient and sustainable strategy to face climate change. Thus, this study investigated the influence of AM fungi on Handroanthus serratifolius seedlings under different water regimes, based on biochemical, and nutritional growth parameters. The experiment was carried out in H. serratifolius seedlings cultivated with mycorrhizas (+AMF) and without mycorrhizas (-AMF) in three water regimes; a severe water deficit (SD), a moderate water deficit (MD), and a well-watered (WW) condition. AM fungi provided greater osmoregulation under water deficit conditions through the accumulation of soluble sugars, total free amino acids, and proline, as well as by reducing sugar. The increase in the absorption of phosphorus and nitrate was observed only in the presence of fungi in the well-watered regimen. A higher percentage of colonization was found in plants submitted to the well-watered regimen. Ultimately, AM fungi promoted biochemical, nutritional, and growth benefits for H. serratifolius seedlings under the water deficit and well-hydrated conditions, proving that AMF can be used to increase the tolerance of H. serratifolius plants, and help them to survive climate change.

In this context, our objective was to analyze the production and allocation of carbohydrates in plants of Carapa guianensis Aubl. submitted to different doses of phosphate fertilization, during the rainy and dry seasons, in the western region of Pará. We used three phosphorus dosages (0, 50, 250 kg ha−1) as treatments. We evaluated the plants during the dry and wet seasons. We quantified dry matter production, phosphorus content, total soluble sugars, reducing sugars, sucrose, and starch. Phosphate fertilization and different evaluation periods influenced carbohydrate concentrations (p < 0.05) in plants. The highest levels of P in the leaves were registered in October and, in the roots the content decreased with the passage of time in all treatments. The control had higher dry matter production in leaves and stems. During the dry ...

Cross-tolerance mechanism induction... CROSS-TOLERANCE MECHANISM INDUCTION IN MELON SEEDS BY PRIMING PRIOR DRYING Indução do mechanismo de tolerância cruzada em sementes de melão osmoticamente condicionadas antes da secagem

The nitrate (NO 3) could be absorbed, being used in the metabolism of the embryo, through the enzyme nitrate reductase (NR). Besides, the priming could also activate the response of the antioxidant system, becoming the primed seeds more prepared for possible stresses. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the metabolic effect of nitrate in tomato seed germination by the quantification of NR activity, and also evaluate the activity of some antioxidant enzymes as superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX). Tomato seeds were primed using solutions of polyethylene glycol (PEG 6000)-1,1MPa, 50 mM KNO 3 and PEG+KNO 3. The variables analyzed were germination (germinability, mean germination time, mean germination rate, coefficient of variation of the germination time, uncertainty and synchrony) nitrogen, total proteins and enzymes. The germination data were analyzed using an ANOVA, comparing the averages by Scott-Knott test (P < 0.05). To analyze the nitrogen, protein and enzymatic activities, we used a Kruskal-Wallis test (P < 0.05). The results show an increase in the NR activity, as well as in the antioxidant enzymes. The germination time (t) and germination rate (v) primed in KNO 3 had a better performance compared to the other treatments. In conclusion, the observed benefits in tomato seeds primed with KNO 3 were related to the activity of the enzyme nitrate reductase in the production of nitrite/nitric oxide, which acted promoting a faster germination.

Most involving the colouring of typical symbiosis structures, with the use of dyes such as Trypan Blue, which can be harmful to users' health (e.g., carcinogens) and the environment (e.g., pollutants). In order to use safe alternatives for AM fungi studies, a comparison and analysis of the use of industrial organic food dyes (Arcólor®) in blue and red colours, organic dye based on Euterpe oleracea Mart. pulp (açaí) and the traditional Trypan Blue (control), all of them diluted in commercial vinegar, for observation and quantification of the typical structures of mycorrhizal infection in the roots of Vigna unguiculata L., Schizolobium amazonicum Huber ex Ducke, Zea mays L. and Brachiaria sp. The results indicated that the organic dyes visually colour the structures of the AM fungi. However, blue food colouring is as effective as Trypan Blue, in addition to being a good option in teaching activ...

The authors describe specific guidelines for their model after first reviewing personal attachment styles with a proclivity toward infidelity and providing a brief review of initial treatment considerations. Finally, they present a case example illustrating the use of narrative therapy and attachment theory as a model for treating infidelity.
