Study 2 - In-laboratory Odour Concentration Comparison of Ambient Samples Collected Downwind from Pet Food Facility using an eight-panel Olfactometer versus Scentroid SM100 and Nasal Ranger Instrument In this study, the same samples that were collected in the first study presented were analyzed not only using ORTECH’s eight panel laboratory but also using Scentroid SM100 and the Nasal Ranger. The same four (4) panelists were used for both the Scentroid SM100 and the Nasal Ranger analysis. All analysis were completed within one hour of each other.

Ambient sampling technique used in this study relied on a lung sampler where a Tedlar filter is placed in an enclosed space with a direct port to the ambient air [3]. The air inside the case is pumped out at a controlled rate to create a vacuum that draws in the ambient air directly into the Tedlar bag (Figure 2). The sample is directly taken and therefore not diluted. The Tedlar bags usec were purged with hot air for a minimum of 48 to ensure no background odour is present before sampling.
