This paper examines a Wari double-chambered whistle bottle (ca. 800–900 CE, Pachacamac, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Acc. 67.167.35) as more than a vessel of clay. Through acoustic analysis, iconographic grammar, and comparative exchange studies, we argue that it functioned as a ritual codex: a container that breathed, sang, and remembered. The figure’s four-cornered crown and lifted shell form a solar cross, uniting sovereignty with navigation. Painted serpents coil as seasonal oscillators, triangles flip as solstices and equinoxes, and dotted sequences recall stellar beats used in Andean ethnoastronomy. The Spondylus shell indexes long-distance trade corridors that carried sea into mountain sanctuaries. Together, these features render the vessel not decorative but designed, an ark of time, a compass of ritual, and a codified physics of resonance. University students' self-concept development has a significant role in both their academic and personal growth, impacting their social identity, motivation, and self-assurance. Even though self-concept has been studied from psychological and developmental perspectives in a number of studies, more research is still needed to fully understand how social interaction shapes identity. This study employs a symbolic interactionist methodology to examine the ways in which peer relationships, everyday social interactions, and cultural norms impact college students' perceptions of themselves. Symbolic interactionism holds that a person's self-perception is influenced by their social interactions, feedback, and internalization of cultural symbols. The social interactions students have in the university environment continuously support, question, or modify their self-identity, which has an impact on their academic performance, career aspirations, and emotional well-being. Although identity formation in higher education has garnered a lot of attention, few studies have focused on looking at how role-taking experiences and symbolic meanings contribute to the development of one's self-concept in diverse university contexts. Students, educators, and policymakers will all gain from this study's goal of filling this information gap by exposing the dynamic process of self-concept development. By use of both qualitative and theoretical research, this study highlights the significance of social interactions in shaping an individual's sense of self and the necessity of establishing supportive university environments that foster proper identity formation.

Only some individuals who have the medically defined condition 'infertility' adopt a self-definition as having a fertility problem, which has implications for social and behavioural responses, yet there is no clear consensus on why some people and not others adopt a medical label. We use interview data from 28 women and men who sought medical infertility treatment to understand variations in self-identification. Results highlight the importance of identity disruption for understanding the dialectical relationship between medical contact and self-identification, as well as how diagnosis acts both as a category and a process. Simultaneously integrating new medical knowledge from testing and treatment with previous fertility self-perceptions created difficulty for settling on an infertility self-perception. This chapter approaches adaptation from a hermeneutic perspective, specifically from a post-structuralist hermeneutics of discourse informed by symbolic interactionism. The intertextual relationship between a cultural product (e.g. a play) and its screen adaptation(s) is analysed as a performative intervention on an existing discourse formation which includes both the original product or text and the discourses using it, originating it, deriving from it or surrounding it. This intervention amounts to both an interpretation and an appropriation of the original text. Like other intertextual modes (translations, critical readings), adaptations produce a retroactive transformation of the original, not in se, but rather as it is used and understood in specific contexts and instances of communicative interaction. These theoretical issues are explored with a special focus on Shakespearean film adaptations, more specifically on the major Henry V films, Laurence Kenneth Branagh's (1989), and their treatment of violence and war in a variety of contexts. A case for a 'resisting' approach to Shakespearean adaptation is put forward.

This article proposes an ontological approach to the distinction between truth and falsehood, shifting the debate from moral and epistemic registers to the material plane of language. Drawing on a critical reading of metaphysical traditions-from Plato to Kant-and their contemporary crisis, the text argues that truth is not a static property but a degree of exposure to the real, measured by the symbolic reorganization that occurs in response to friction. Falsehood, in turn, is treated as a structural possibility of language, characterized by the suspension of proof and temporal economy. The distinction between truth and fiction is explored through its temporal, ethical, and political dimensions, engaging with the Ontology of Emerging Complexity, pragmatist philosophy, and critiques of symbolic acceleration. The article defends that to think today is to inhabit friction, resist performative efficacy, and cultivate institutions capable of sustaining the duration required for proof.

Together, they show us that social reality is not fixed or universal but constructed through interaction, shared symbols, and collective belief. Understanding their perspectives allows us to see more clearly how everyday actions and interpretations shape the societies we live in.

The present work is the beginning of a discussion that again addresses the question of Jane Addams’ sociological heritage. That latter is defined as a puzzle which may finally have a solution in that all of the pieces now appear to have been collected. The approach taken to recovering Addams’ identity as a sociologist involves a historico-sociological exploration of the influences upon the formation of her sociological thought, with a focus on Auguste Comte, the Father of Sociology. The article argues that Addams emulated Comte’s scientific mission and took upon herself the task of continuing his project by following another route to the goal. She is thus Comte’s successor, and even rival, insofar as she sought to establish sociology as a science that may be placed in charge of producing knowledge about social life and has the social mission of finding solutions to social problems that politicians proved incapable of tackling. The present study examines Kamila Shamsie’s novel Home Fire (2017) for gender roles and demonstrates how gender roles determine the characters’ individuality in the text. The study has employed symbolic interaction theory to explore gender roles in the selected text. Mead (1964) and Blumer’s (1969) concepts of interaction and interpretation have been adopted to analyse gender roles. The probe into the text finds Home Fire an objective example of gender equality in terms of behaviours, professions, power, and appearance. The novel presents gender roles in natural and unique situations rather than in stereotypical ways. Shamsie has portrayed modern men and women performing distinct roles in society without engendering them. All characters behave according to their circumstances and individual personality patterns. This phenomenon had a major impact on the literature concerned with understanding the international role of the EU. For some authors, the birth of the EU as a military actor looked like the beginning of the end for both ‘civilian power Europe’ and ‘normative power Europe’. For others, the emergence of the EU as a military actor meant the birth of the EU as ‘real power Europe’ on the international scene. Problem-Based Learning (PBL) is a useful learner-centered approach in which learners collaborate within small groups to solve an authentic ill-structured problem that has no right or wrong answer. However, facilitating and designing PBL can be challenging for teachers as well as for learning environment with learners with diverse needs. The main purpose of this action research is to upsurge the academic triumph of Grade 12 Senior High School Learners using PBL in teaching Social Science Classroom. Specifically, this action research sought to answer the following questions: (1) what is the level of learners' academic performance in terms of their quarterly grades in UCSP as to their 1st Quarter Grade and 2nd Quarter Grade?; (2) what is the mean difference between learners' academic performance in terms of their 1st and 2nd quarter grade in UCSP?; and (3) how do the learners describe their lived experiences during and after the implementation of problem-based learning as a learner-centered approach in teaching social science classroom? The study is limited to Grade 12 learners from Understanding Culture, Society, and Politics Class of Sta. Catalina Integrated National High School from September 2022 to October 2023. In the conduct of the action research, Mixed Method Research was used to gather necessary data and information. Mean and standard deviation were analyzed using descriptive statistics for quantitative data and thematic analysis for qualitative data gathered from focus group discussions. The findings have shown that PBL as a learner-centered approach to teaching social science, had a large and positive effect to upsurge the academic triumph of Grade 12 learners which marks Very Satisfactory on the level of their academic performance in UCSP Class. For an instance, the conduct of more studies on the different factors affecting PBL integration and specific effects of PBL on various learner domain is recommended to facilitate comparative educational research in the future.

E' sufficiente che l'operato di un professionista rispetti le norme deontologiche? Può l'etica professionale ridursi a una mera questione legale, prescindendo dal rapporto del professionista con il suo utente o cliente, e con la società di cui entrambi fanno parte? In ogni professione è implicata, in maniera più o meno mediata, una dimensione interpersonale, che chiama in causa la responsabilità morale del professionista e che rischia sempre di passare in secondo piano. Offriamo in questo contributo alcuni spunti di riflessone sull'azione professionale e sulla sua valenza sociale.

Introduction

Following is a selection of book reviews I have written since 1995 (reviews are later than the book’s publication date). The books reviewed in the first section are on panpsychism, the second set is on language and human consciousness, especially in terms of origins, and the final section relates to books on transcendent mind—altered or extrasensory conscious experiences. Most have been previously published in journals, while others have only been posted somewhere online (e.g., Facebook groups or Amazon.com), but this is the first light of day for none of them. Though I have made minor adjustments to suit the format, most remain much the same as when they first appeared.

The majority of these reviews are highly positive, but a few are more critical. This should be no surprise since most of us choose to read books we expect will please us. I presume I’m not the only one to like book reviews for their condensed capsule insights and guides to the books themselves. Book reviews can be insightful, but the perspective of the reviewer must always be borne in mind.

My philosophical perspective is easily discernible in what follows, though I am an explorer, not a believer, i.e., not committed to it. Metaphysically, I lean toward the panpsychist version of Whiteheadian panexperientialism, now preferring the more dynamic term pancreativism. However, I admit to an inclination toward non-deity cosmopsychism, a universal field of awareness that experiences through individual experiencers. Further, in language, I recognize the symbolic threshold that separates our human conscious experience from that of our animal confreres, though we often share a similar emotional foundation with them. Human symbolic consciousness allows for abstract thought and technological powers of environmental manipulation—with the result that we humans have run amok on this planet and are the greatest danger to it. I believe that our hope is the breakthrough into greater insight and understanding—perhaps an as yet barely foreseen more mutual, transpersonal but not physically transcendent form of awareness. I review these issues in section III. Ontologically, I am neither inclined toward materialism nor idealism but am drawn instead toward neutral or dual-aspect monism.

A 4,000-year-old seal, small enough to fit in the palm of the hand, encodes more than beasts or myths. It encodes collapse physics, synchrony, sacrifice, and ecological survival. El objetivo de este artículo es divulgar los resultados de una investigación cuyo objetivo fue evaluar el uso del arte como medio para hacer frente a situaciones estresantes. Se aplicó una encuesta a 40 estudiantes de la Universidad de Antioquia, de éstos, 20 son estudiantes de la Facultad de Artes y 20 son estudiantes de otras facultades. Los resultados demostraron la pertinencia que tiene la hipótesis que guió la investigación: el arte sirve para afrontar las situaciones estresantes. De igual manera, se evidencia la influencia que puede tener la familia, el medio y la academia en el establecimiento del concepto de lo bello y la utilidad que cada individuo le encuentra al arte.

This article discusses the role of symbolic interaction in the context of women's leadership. Symbolic interaction refers to the process of attribution and giving meaning to symbols and signs that represent a person's role and identity. In the context of women's leadership, symbolic interactions play an important role in articulating meanings related to women as leaders and the impact on their perception and influence in professional environments. And, through symbolic interactions, women leaders can manage and change these perceptions by articulating meaning through symbols, body language, and verbal communication. The articulation of this meaning can shift the existing paradigm and help strengthen the image of strong and effective female leadership.

This chapter explores the contribution of symbolic interactionism to the sociology of deviance in the 1960s and early 1970s. It first traces the origins of symbolic interactionism, citing the work of the University of Chicago's sociology department, particularly on the sociology of crime and control. It then looks at the emergence of symbolic interactionism and how it has occupied a prominent place in the field of criminology, as well as the interactionists' tendency to practise a social anthropology of participant-observation. The strength of interactionism lies in its insistence on distinguishing between primary and secondary deviance and researching the social reaction to crime and deviance, particularly retrospective and projective labelling. The chapter concludes by reviewing the criticisms against the interactionist sociology of crime and deviance.

This reflective article explores the role of motivation as a catalyst for capacity in instructional coaching, highlighting how personalized support, trust-building, and goal alignment contribute to improved teaching practices, the role of motivation building in educational settings. and student outcomes. Drawing from nearly three decades of teaching experience, including extensive work with English learners, I present two case studies illustrating how intentional motivational strategies can transform both student engagement and teacher practice which emphasizes the practical and relational dimensions of effective coaching. This unfinished, amateur study attempts to align theory analytics from across the Social and Biological Sciences in order to reveal the mechanisms involved in human Language, Interaction, Thought and Emotion. The inegration of these analytics are offered as a theoretical match with Affect Control Theory's ingenious mathematized model, which operationalizes affective dimensions of semantic meaning (social action statements) to produce predictions of human behavior and emotion. The study offers a unifying theory of emotion, the Color Theory of Emotion, which identifies modes of autonomic control as the basic unit of affect categorization upon which all categorical conceptual information scaffolds. ACT's EPA dimensions are shown to arise from the integration of functional Interoception, Attentional, Categoization systems. Upon this foundation, core theories of emotion from various ontological levels are integrated, and their synthesis can be shown to produce a new novel model of dyadic interaction systematically constrained by emotion, a system which this study offers as a model for the mechanism that allowed human cultural evolution.

Zusammenfassung Der Symbolische Interaktionismus zeigt einen Kernvorgang in allen zwischenmenschlichen Beziehungen auf, der sich allgemein wie folgt kennzeichnen lässt: Steuerung von Interaktionen über die Regulierung des gegenseitigen Zugangs zur jeweils eigenen Subjektivität. Um die Facetten dieses Vorgangs zu erhellen, werden Auszüge der Studien von Erving Goffman, einem Vertreter des Symbolischen Interaktionismus, vorgestellt. Dabei werden die von ihm verwendeten Schlüsselbegriffe und eingenommenen Blickwinkel erläutert: Imagepflege, Umgangsweisen mit Stigmata, Rahmen. Damit soll eine Diskussionsgrundlage für die Frage geschaffen werden, inwieweit Goffmans Analysen Anknüpfungspunkte für die Beratungswissenschaften bilden können. Abstract Symbolic Interactionism highlights a central process in all inter-human relations. This process may in general be labeled as the direction of interaction via a regulation of the reciprocal approach to each person's own subjectivity. In order to cast a light on the aspects of this process, this contribution will present excerpts from the studies conducted by Erving Goffman, a representative of Symbolic Interactionism. The key terms and perspectives he employs will be explained: the presentation of the self, dealing with stigmata, framing. This presentation shall serve as a basis for the discussion of where Goffman's analyses are able to tie into counseling sciences.

that the freedom movements gathered and strengthened through various efforts are still present in
society? With these all questions, this paper is an attempt to examines the continued relevance of
Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy of non-violence in the context of modern environmental movements.
Through a critical analysis of Gandhi’s ideas on non-violent resistance, Satyagraha, and Ahimsa, this
research explores how these concepts can be applied to contemporary environmental struggles. Recent
environmental movements, such as the anti-coal protests in Singrauli, India, and the global climate
strikes led by Fridays For Future, demonstrate the effectiveness of non-violent tactics in challenging
environmentally destructive policies and practices. For instance, the successful campaign against the
Vedanta bauxite mine in Odisha’s Niyamgiri hills, led by the Dongria Kondh tribe, showcases the power
of non-violent resistance in protecting indigenous rights and the environment (The Hindu, 2013).
Similarly, the peaceful protests against the construction of the Dakota Access Pipeline in the United States, led by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, highlight the importance of non-violent activism in defending environmental justice (The New York Times, 2016). By drawing parallels between His’s methods and modern environmental activism, this research demonstrates the enduring relevance of His’s non-violent approach in addressing the complex environmental challenges of the 21st century.

RESUMOObjetivo:compreender as potencialidades e fragilidades da rede de cuidado da pessoa com HIV/Aids em um serviço de referência do Estado de Santa Catarina-SC.Método:participaram oito sujeitos e sua rede de cuidado, totalizando 18 participantes. Os dados foram coletados através de entrevistas e examinados por análise de conteúdo, sustentados teoricamente pelo interacionismo simbólico.Resultado:a análise resultou nas categorias: A rede ofertando o cuidado à pessoa com síndrome da imunodeficiência adquirida e Enfrentando Barreiras no cuidar, que refletem as potencialidades e fragilidades, na rede de cuidado. A primeira retrata a oferta de cuidado afetivo e humanizado e a segunda, uma rede pouco ampliada, constituída por profissionais de saúde e algum membro familiar.Conclusão:a rede de cuidado profissional é importante, mesmo diante do aumento dos atendimentos numa estrutura física e número de profissionais que já não comportam a crescente demanda.

I describe a methodological innovation in the study of morality. I present a new quasi-experimental model based on the fusion of art and science (Chapters 1–3).
I attempt to overcome, at least to some extent, the individualistic theoretical model of thinking about morality. I focus on the interactional dimension of morality. I show how the fabrication of interactional conditions (Chapters 4–6) and the process of reaching either consensus or divergence in response to Goffman’s question, 'What is going on here?' (Chapters 7–9), shape the moral character of the interactional situation.
I present the concept of tacit morality, which I initially defined by analogy to tacit knowledge. Over time, however, as the abductive analysis of the research material progressed, I began to perceive its multidimensional nature. The concept of tacit morality—even if it requires further refinement in the course of future research—is intended to reflect a fundamental feature of moral phenomena: their complexity (Part IV).

This study examines how virtual spaces facilitated by NPOs are becoming catalysts for personal growth and collective strength. The primary finding indicates that social interaction among peers in an online support group tends to foster personal growth and development. This result is based on a grounded theory analysis of interview data from an online peer group and an interpretation of the data using symbolic interactionism. The study showcases how engagement in these spaces can lead to meaningful outreach and support for vulnerable populations, particularly single mothers. This research contributes to the understanding of collective behavior and its impact on individuals within a virtual group, shedding light on the dynamics of online support communities.

This article presents a literature review on Symbolic Interactionism, Social Exchange, and Expectation Violation Theories and their relevance to the Psychological Contract. The review is part of a doctoral thesis on the socialization process and can be helpful to Human Resource Managers (HRM), scholars, and practitioners. The review's findings show that while there are many studies on the newcomer's adaptation in the international literature, there are very few academic studies on this topic in the Brazilian context where the cost of losing a job can induce a golden cage behavior as we see in the public sector companies. Therefore, the review provides a new perspective on the socialization process of a firm's newcomer by combining the theories above, which have not been studied together before.

This article focuses on symbolic interactionism and its utility when applied to adoptive families. We argue that Mead's (1934, 1956) theoretical concepts of self, generalized other, and shared meaning are underutilized tools for exploring prospective parents' decision of whether to adopt, the transition to adoptive parenthood, and subsequent family adjustment over time. We also advocate for the extension of salience to generalized other, in order to better understand and reflect prospective parents' perspectives of and experiences with adoption. We chose symbolic interactionism as a single theoretical framework to unify the extant adoption literature; in doing so, a conceptual model was developed to better illustrate the theoretical principles as they inform decision making and action taking across the transition to adoptive family life. The model posits six specific propositions that warrant further empirical exploration to test and refine its predictive utility.

Objective: to describe the meaning attributed to the use of a game as an educational technology for the involvement of companions in pediatric patient safety. Method: a qualitative study carried out with 16 companions of children admitted to the Pediatric Unit of the public hospital in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Data collection took place from October to December 2019, through semi-structured interviews, after using the game as an educational technology. Symbolic Interactionism was used as the theoretical framework and Inductive Content Analysis, as the method. Results: playing the game in search of patient safety was an important strategy for sharing knowledge and co-responsibility for the companions to engage in the pediatric patient safety actions, in addition to a relevant contribution to the prevention of adverse events. On the other hand, the professionals' overload and communication problems stood out as barriers to the establishment of a bond among the health team members and, consequently, the involvement of the companions in patient safety. Conclusion: the companions recognized themselves as partners in the prevention of adverse events and highlighted some behavioral changes in favor of patient safety after participating in the playful intervention. Thus, it is considered that the game can be an important and interactive strategy for disseminating information to companions and family members and, consequently, favoring the increased participation of these actors in patient safety actions.

This article outlines the elements of a more robust symbolic interactionist theory of interpersonal processes. I argue that George Herbert Mead's conceptualization of interaction processes can be extended to explain not only micro-level social processes but also key elements of meso-and macro-level dynamics. By expanding Mead's and more recent symbolic interactionist theorizing, and incorporating key ideas from other theoretical traditions outside symbolic interactionism proper, it becomes possible to develop a theory of interaction that fills in important conceptual gaps in theories on the dynamics of micro-, meso-, and macro-level social phenomena.

' Mead probably viewed humans as overly unique. Studies on primates and other higher mammals reveal that they also possess, in less developed form, the behavioral capacities that Mead saw as exclusively human. For Mead argued that "in man the functional differentiation through language gives an entirely different principle of organization which produces not only a different type of individual but also a different society." Mead, 1934: 244.) * This dilemma is phrased in a manner that is similar to Adam Smith's original formulation in The Wealth of Nations-a formulation which was repeated by French structuralists like Saint-Simon, Comte, and Durkheim. Durkheim (1893) makes the same argument in his discussion of how the collective conscience grows more "abstract" and "general" as systems assume an "organic" basis (differentiated) of solidarity.
