This contribution introduces a methodology for measuring political influence on Twitter during the 2020 U.S. presidential election campaign. The approach employs deep knowledge scores, which are generated through sentiment analysis of Tweets from users responding to influential users, coupled with an assessment of the strength of their interactions. The deep knowledge scores enable the categorization of three types of Twitter's users engaging with influential users: influenced users, distrustful users, and connected users. Our approach, structured around a five-layer framework, effectively constructs networks of trust and distrust, and establishes the relationship between fluctuations in trust or distrust levels and the topics discussed by influential users.

Several studies in the sociology of immigration have focused on informal networks as the primary source of migrants’ social capital. However, the literature has largely eschewed the potential afforded by the computational analytical tools of network science that permit the reconstruction and mapping of community sociograms and the calculation of the impact of centrality metrics. In addition, studies are still scarce that would combine network-analytic approaches with rigorous investigations of refugees’ acquisition of host-country language skills, despite the proven import thereof for functioning in the new destination.
We analyse the peer interaction networks of 251 Ukrainian refugees participating in an intensive Polish language course. Employing a custom-designed name-interpreter survey in conjunction with a pre-/post-test design, we leverage computational social network analysis to i) identify patterns of participants’ informal communication beyond the classroom, with particular attention to interactions within their co-national group, and ii) examine how these patterns, alongside individual background characteristics, affect their language development.
Speaking Ukrainian correlated with greater centrality in the contact network. Russian-dominant speakers often concealed their use of this language, possibly because they were frequently found at the network periphery. A careful and meticulous four-year research effort allowed Massimo Favilla and Ruggero Rugolo to reconstruct three centuries of history and art of Palazzo Vendramin Grimani, which is now the home of the Fondazione dell’Albero d’Oro. This valuable work led to an exhibition project, which is recounted here by those who set it up.

Introduction Detection of omissions and other kinds of errors that contribute to the differential net undercount is one of the main activities of the research project called the Ethnographic Evaluation of the Behavioral Causes of Undercount. Finding cases and patterns of omission and error in the census enumerations is a step which must be taken first in order to find out what demographic, social and behavioral characteristics of neighborhoods, households and people are associated with particular cases of omissions and errors or account for the observed higher or lower rates of error in the enumeration of a locality. Thus, the evidence and methodological bases for identifying errors and omissions in the census discussed in this paper underlie other studies. This special issue intends to bring a unique perspective on some unexplored aspects of social networks, namely the negative ties, lost ties or latent ties. The texts presented here were prepared following after a conference organized specifically on this topic. Field analyzes reflect the presence of social networks that are “inefficient”, “conflictual”, “absent” or “prohibited”, and theoretical development has begun to explore and characterize these social ties. The emphasis here is on the methods used to understand these relatively difficult-to-grasp ties, both in theory and in practice. Taking into account such links, this work opens a heuristic path in social network analysis.

Interdependence is ubiquitous, and often central, across political economy. In comparative political economy, for example, globalization and rising capital mobility imply tax competition that suggests the fiscal policies of one country must depend crucially upon those of other countries with which it competes for capital. In international political economy, to give another example, security concerns and the global structure of military alliances are likely to make trade flows interdependent across country dyads. We explain how any situation that involves externalities from one unit's actions on others' implies interdependence and show how to model such interdependent processes empirically. We discuss how to estimate properly specified interdependence models with spatial lags by maximum likelihood and how to interpret and present the resulting estimated spatio-temporal effects, response paths, and long-run steady-states, with their associated standard errors. We illustrate with replications of two noteworthy earlier studies from comparative and international political economy.

With this article, we present the ongoing research project “Tango Danceability of Music in European Perspective” and the transdisciplinary research design it is built upon. Three main aspects of tango argentino are in focus—the music, the dance, and the people—in order to understand what is considered danceable in tango music. The study of all three parts involves computer-aided analysis approaches, and the results are examined within ethnochoreological and ethnomusicological frameworks. Two approaches are illustrated in detail to show initial results of the research model. Network analysis based on the collection of online tango event data and quantitative evaluation of data gathered by an online survey showed significant results, corroborating the hypothesis of gatekeeping effects in the shaping of musical preferences. Con questa incisione di Francesco del Pedro per l'opera "Fasti Veneti" pubblicata nel primo periodo della Municipalità provvisoria (1797), Bajamonte Tiepolo viene descritto come sfortunato eroe della difesa della Repubblica di Venezia dal tiranno Gradenigo. La vicenda di Bajamonte Tiepolo e della sua congiura, risalente agli albori del XIV secolo, incise così profondamente sulla vita e l'immaginario dei Veneziani che la breve filastrocca era ancora viva nella memoria popolare di Venezia al tempo della mia infanzia, dopo la metà del XX secolo. La strofa su Bajamonte Tiepolo mi veniva infatti recitata anche da mia madre (che non era un'erudita ma un'ostessa) quando a brani e lacerti cercava di spiegarmi la Storia di Venezia. Allora come oggi, era dato per scontato che Bajamonte Tiepolo fosse un aspirante tiranno. Ma Bajamonte Tiepolo non aveva questa reputazione nei decenni che precedettero e nei mesi che seguirono la caduta di Venezia dallo stato di Repubblica. La questione della congiura Querini-Tiepolo meglio nota come "Congiura di Bajamonte Tiepolo", allora, e nei secoli precedenti, mostrava una vitalità e una presa sociale sul Popolo di Venezia ben più intense della semplice sopravvivenza di una filastrocca. La figura di Bajamonte Tiepolo, per quello che possiamo leggere nelle carte e nei discorsi del tardo Settecento, era divenuta emblematica per quei veneziani che guardava alle "nuove idee d'Oltralpe" come a una speranza di ritorno alla naturalità primigenia della Repubblica, ormai da circa un secolo gravemente impastoiata nella corruzione e nel dominio incontrastato di pochi "paroni de Venessia", discendenti dinastici o politici di coloro che avevano represso la Congiutra di Bajamonte Tiepolo. In questa fazione trovavano luogo gaudenti come Francesco Battaja, che mal soffrivano l'ipocrita perbenismo di cui si ammantava la società veneziana, idealisti fragili come Ugo Foscolo e ribelli sfortunati e raggirati come Carlo Contarini. Era la fazione più eterogenea, ingenua e sciocca tra quelle in gioco, tuttavia per tradizione imputava la decadenza di Venezia dallo stato aulico di Repubblica proprio a quelle leggi e quell'Albo d'Oro, instaurati dal doge Pietro Gradenigo e dai suoi accoliti, che vanno sotto il nome di "Serrata del Maggior Consiglio" e che innescarono la rivolta di Bajamonte Tiepolo. Bajamonte Tiepolo, agli occhi di questi "giacobini", aveva tentato di spodestare il Doge per impedire quella svolta oligarchica. Dai discorsi riportati nella "Raccolta di Carte del Veneto Governo" (vol. III, 1797) risulta evidente che il mito di Bajamonte Tiepolo difensore della Repubblica di Venezia era ben vivo, al punto che ci fu chi propose di scolpire delle lapidi che lo ricordassero come eroe e altre che bollassero il Gradenigo come sordido tiranno. Le medesime "Carte" testimoniano che in quell'atmosfera infuocata vi fu un medico, Francesco Aglietti acceso "giacobino", il quale volle il suggello della documentazione storica su quelle lapidi da apporre all'eroismo di Bajamonte Tiepolo. Aglietti indisse dunque un concorso fra gli eruditi offrendo ben 50 zecchini a chi fosse riuscito a scovare i documenti che dovevano scagionare gli antichi congiurati e trasferire l'infamia della Storia sul Doge Pietro Gradenigo. Per l'occasione furono aperti tutti gli archivi della Serenissima Repubblica e 12 studiosi accolsero la sfida.

A 29 de Agosto de 1756, Luís Beleza de Andrade assina o termo de abertura do primeiro livro do cofre da Companhia, volume que havia de servir para imprimir os nomes dos accionistas primitivos da Companhia Geral da Agricultura das Vinhas do Alto Douro, entre 1756 e 1760, e que se encontra no Arquivo da Real Companhia Velha. É esta a fonte documental sobre a qual iremos fundamentar a nossa abordagem.

O objetivo deste estudo é analisar as disputas nas narrativas em redes sociais virtuais relacionadas às operações policiais Escudo/Verão da Polícia Militar de São Paulo e Exceptis da DPCA do Rio de Janeiro. O foco está na representação, debate e contestação dessas operações nas plataformas digitais, considerando múltiplas perspectivas. Além disso, o estudo investiga como as narrativas foram construídas e disseminadas, os atores envolvidos e o impacto dessas interações na percepção pública das ações policiais. A pesquisa também busca identificar os mecanismos de poder e resistência nas redes sociais, avaliando como as tecnologias digitais facilitam a articulação de discursos hegemônicos e contra-hegemônicos. O método adotado incluiu a análise de discursos em plataformas como Facebook e X (Twitter), com foco em publicações oficiais e não oficiais, além de influenciadores digitais como Delegado Da Cunha e Gabriel Monteiro. A coleta de dados ocorreu a partir das datas de início das respectivas operações, e a análise qualitativa foi guiada pelos conceitos teóricos de Berger e Luckmann sobre a construção social da realidade. Até o momento, os resultados preliminares indicam que, apesar das preocupações com a violência policial, as narrativas digitais têm favorecido grupos políticos de direita, promovendo uma ideologia conservadora. O engajamento dos seguidores nas redes sociais, centrado na figura da polícia, tem reforçado uma sensação de proteção e rejeitado opiniões contrárias. A pesquisa continua em andamento, buscando aprofundar a compreensão das dinâmicas comunicativas contemporâneas e dos impactos das mídias digitais na formação da opinião pública sobre segurança e políticas públicas.

Orientation: Organisational network analysis (ONA) examines relationships between people and is a potential diagnostic tool to use during team coaching interventions. Research purpose: The objective of this research was to investigate how ONA can be used during a team coaching intervention aimed at addressing business challenges. Motivation for the study: The use of ONA as a diagnostic tool in individual coaching has been researched, but has not been applied in the emerging field of team coaching. Research approach/design and method: An action research methodology employing both quantitative and qualitative methods was used in this research. A revisão sistemática consiste em método essencial para o levantamento de dados sobre determinado objeto de estudo. É um tipo de pesquisa que requer um protocolo rígido de busca, coleta, análise e apresentação dos dados, podendo ou não utilizar métodos estatísticos. Nesse sentido, a Teoria dos Grafos é um dos ramos da matemática que oferece importantes recursos para a análise e representação das relações entre variáveis de qualquer natureza, sendo muito útil também em pesquisas como as revisões sistemáticas na área da psicologia. O presente artigo constitui-se em uma proposta metodológica inovadora que visa descrever: o processo básico de construção, interpretação e a utilização de grafos em revisões sistemáticas aplicadas à área da psicologia. Management of Virtual Organizations faces new challenges that traditional approaches cannot address. This research proposes a performance measurement framework for service oriented virtual organizations including a structural and a procedural component. The structural framework aligns the activities of partners in a virtual organization at three different layers. The first layer is designed for partners' strategic alignment through coordination of the value creation network. In the second layer, performance dimensions of partners' collaboration are defined and mapped to the service choreography model. The third layer focuses on assessing effectiveness and efficiency of partners' domain specific services, which is designed based on ITIL V3 service level management guidelines. Understanding and positively impacting social networks is core to social work practice and research. As a research method, social network analysis provides an important mechanism for mapping various types of networks as well as the relationships and exchanges between network actors. This has relevance to Australian human and health services given the social policy context that currently emphasises and requires improvements in the integration of services. This paper describes the application of social network analysis to a consortium of mental health and related services to examine indicators of service integration such as the frequency, type, and direction of information exchanges including referral pathways. When combined with other research methods and information, social network analysis is shown to be a useful tool providing both visual and sociometric evidence of relational activities, thus creating a strong basis for advocacy and social change.

A história que se vai contar apoia-se sobretudo em fontes judiciais e refere-se ao contexto imediatamente subsequente à publicação da legislação pombalina da última fase. Datado de 1781/1783 e tendo lugar em Lisboa, constitui um dos casos nos quais filhos solteiros menores de 25 anos pretenderam casar-se contra a vontade dos seus pais ou tutores que deram lugar a processos que subiram à Mesa Desembargo do Paço e resultaram numa consulta. O caso em análise destaca-se pela singularidade dos argumentos invocados e debatidos, em particular, acerca do "defeito de mulatismo". A consulta final da Mesa do tribunal supremo do reino, favorável aos nubentes e depois assinada pela monarca, permite sugerir que, no reino de Portugal e Algarves (onde se aplicava o Alvará de 1773), não só se proibia classificar alguém como liberto, como tal inibição podia ser equiparada à supressão jurídica do preceito de "mulatismo", assimilando-se a condição de liberto à de mulato. Quem foram, de onde eram naturais, onde se formaram, em que Tribunais serviram, em que época estiveram em Tavira, são algumas das respostas que podem ser obtidas neste estudo.

Predicting box office receipts of a particular movie has intrigued many researchers, domain experts and industry leaders as a challenging problem. In this paper, we report on the current status of a prediction system being built at the Institute for Research in Information Systems (IRIS) at Oklahoma State University since 1998. In our model, the forecasting problem is converted into a classification problem, that is, rather than forecasting the pinpoint estimate of box office receipts, a movie is classified into one of nine financial success categories, ranging from a "flop" to a "blockbuster." The prediction results of different datasets representing different time windows and different combination of predictors are presented using average percent hit rate of bingo and oneaway predictions. In the latest tests the prediction results of artificial neural networks improved to almost 50% on "bingo" and close to 90% on "one-away".

The new possibilities of obtaining and storing data facilitate deeper analysis of the entire social network, extracted social groups and single individuals as well. One of the most interesting research topic is the network dynamics and dynamics of social groups in particular, it means analysis of group evolution over time. It is the natural step forward after social community extraction. Having communities extracted, appropriate knowledge and methods for dynamic analysis may be applied in order to identify changes as well as to predict the future of all or some selected groups. The continuous interest in the social network area contributes to the fast development of this field. The new possibilities of obtaining and storing data facilitate deeper analysis of the entire network, extracted social groups and single individuals as well. One of the most interesting research topic is the dynamics of social groups which means analysis of group evolution over time. Having appropriate knowledge and methods for dynamic analysis, one may attempt to predict the future of the group, and then manage it properly in order to achieve or change this predicted future according to specific needs. Such ability would be a powerful tool in the hands of human resource managers, personnel recruitment, marketing, etc. The social group evolution consists of individual events and seven types of such changes have been identified in the paper: continuing, shrinking, growing, splitting, merging, dissolving and forming. To enable the analysis of group evolution a change indicator-inclusion measure was proposed. It has been used in a new method for exploring the evolution of social groups, called Group Evolution Discovery (GED). The experimental results of its use together with the comparison to two well-known algorithms in terms of accuracy, execution time, flexibility and ease of implementation are also described in the paper.

Late modern society has been conceptualized as a spectacle, a metaphor that brings to light not only its commodification but also the benumbing impact of mass media on the audience's political agency. This study turns attention to the spectacle in the age of social media. Building on a growing body of research on the spectacle of suffering, we compare reactions to the 2022 Itaewon Halloween stampede, which claimed more than 150 lives, across Korean-language and English-language posts on the social networking platform, X (previously Twitter). Our research draws on two computational techniques, topic modeling and network analysis, to examine the emotive and evaluative character of the discourse as well as its structural features. The analysis reveals significant differences between the two corpora. While the English-language network, in which corporate media accounts are most prominent, dehumanizes the victims and parrots the official version of events, the Korean-language network, driven by ordinary users, evinces empathy and draws attention to administrative failuresserving as a prelude to large-scale protests across South Korea that forced the government to concede its responsibility for the tragedy. We argue that even though the spectacle remains relevant as a concept to understand mediatized public life today, it is not quite as monolithic as it was originally conceptualized. Instead, the logics of social networking have rendered a fractured spectacle, with different networked publics producing different representations of and reactions to public events in the digital attention economyleading to different political consequences.

Estudo que analisa a evolução da administração da Companhia Geral da Agricultura das Vinhas do Alto Douro entre 1756 e 1852, período que corresponde à sua fase de maior intervenção institucional e transformação estrutural. Criada no contexto das reformas pombalinas, a Companhia assumiu funções públicas relevantes enquanto sociedade majestática até 1834, e, após uma breve fase como entidade comercial sob a designação de Companhia dos Vinhos do Porto, reassumiu algumas funções reguladoras entre 1838 e 1852. O artigo identifica três modelos administrativos sucessivos — Junta, Administração e Direção —, caracterizando as suas composições, competências, processos eleitorais, e principais protagonistas.

Вопреки сложившимся представлениям, гласность и свободная поле-
мика в отечественной истории последних двух столетий встречаются
чаще, чем публичная немота, репрессии или пропаганда. Более того,
гласность и публичность не раз становились триггерами серьезных
реформ сверху. В то же время оптимистические ожидания от рас-
ширения сферы открытой общественной дискуссии чаще всего не
оправдывались. Справедлив ли в таком случае вывод, что ставка на
гласность в России обречена на поражение? Задача авторов кни-
ги — с опорой на теорию публичной сферы и публичности (Хабермас,
Арендт, Фрейзер, Хархордин, Юрчак и др.) показать, как часто и по-
разному в течение 200 лет в России сочетались гласность, глухота
к политической речи и репрессии. Сборник включает в себя более
двадцати исследований, позволяющих реконструировать богатую
историю трансформации режимов публичности в дореволюцион-
ной, советской и постсоветской России. Анализируя разные формы
публичности — от имперского двора до художественных выставок
и дебатов в социальных сетях — авторы стремятся объяснить, по-
чему в одни исторические периоды обращенные к обществу выска-
зывания имеют значительный резонанс и способны определять ход
событий, а в другие — оставляют аудиторию равнодушной и жестко
подавляются властями.

Este trabalho tem como objetivo fornecer um manual sobre o funcionamento da Plataforma Lattes, ferramenta acadêmica brasileira. Elaborado com linguagem acessível, o guia aborda desde o cadastro inicial até o preenchimento de informações específicas. Este trabalho foi desenvolvido com o intuito de descomplicar o processo de cadastro na plataforma. Reunindo orientações, o guia apresenta os principais passos para o uso eficiente do Lattes. O material está estruturado em tópicos objetivos, com foco na usabilidade e na valorização da trajetória individual de cada usuário, respeitando as especificidades das diversas áreas do conhecimento.

Аннотация: В статье рассмотрено взаимодействие пользователей социальных сетей в идеологических сообществах в период президентских выборов 2024 г. Цель -установить связь между особенностями взаимо действия пользователей социальных сетей друг с другом и их принадлежностью к конкретной идео логии и / или сообществу. Объект исследования -дискурс идеологических сообществ в социальной сети ВКонтакте во время выборов президента Российской Федерации 7-17 марта 2024 г.; предмет -особенности взаимодействия пользователей социальной сети ВКонтакте в идеологических сообществах в период президентских выборов 7-17 марта 2024 г. в России. Актуальность исследования обусловлена тем, что анализ способов артикуляции, распространения, защиты и опровержения идеологических убеждений в ходе повседневного взаимодействия людей в сети Интернет представляет особый интерес для изучения идеологического мышления и поведения. Научная новизна работы: междисциплинарная методология исследования, основанная на критическом дискурс-анализе, теории речевых актов, а также разработанной авторами порядковой шкале оценки аргументов в пользовательских сообщениях по степени рациональности. В ходе работы было проанализировано 1879 текстов, содержащихся в 12 сообществах коммунистической, консервативной, либеральной и националистической идеологической направленности. Сделан вывод о том, что в идеологических сообществах существуют отличительные особенности взаимодействия их пользователей. В частности, выявлена статистически обоснованная связь (по критерию Колмогорова-Смирнова) между применением приемов аргументации по степени рационализации и принадлежностью к отдельному сообществу и / или идеологии.

Abstract.- The human society is a very complex system; still, there are several non-trivial, general features. One type of them is the presence of power-law distributed quantities in temporal statistics. In this Letter, we focus on the origin of power-laws in rating of movies. We present a systematic empirical exploration of the time between two consecutive ratings of movies (the interevent time). At an aggregate level, we find a monotonous relation between the activity of individuals and the power-law exponent of the interevent-time distribution. At an individual level, we observe a heavy-tailed distribution for each user, as well as a negative correlation between the activity and the width of the distribution. We support these findings by a similar data set from mobile phone text-message communication. Assuming one of Seneca's proverbs-while we teach, we learn-we must understand the historian's trade as a profession in continuous renewal, nurturing ourselves with new aspects that improve the methodology and techniques of science, while discarding those that become obsolete. For three decades, the provision of methodologies originating from other disciplines, such as computer science and Humanities studies, have been converging into the discipline known as Digital Humanities. Although these computational techniques have introduced new methods for the identification of patterns in data and promise to accelerate the processes of analysing the growing mass of data, they diverge from the traditional narrative and its methods. In this sense, recent experiences allow us to discuss the benefits and limits of the link between traditional methods and techniques on the one hand, and those that are computational on the other, when preparing scientific results. Thus, we believe that without losing sight of the historian's basic essence of continually immersing themselves in the reading and analysis of sources, the paradigm shifts of science can be assumed adopting this new technique. Now, with perspective, we look at the limits that convergence itself offers, and here present our most recent experience to improve its performance.

O trabalho de Ana Isabel Ribeiro sobre o qual nos debruçamos, destaca-se pela utilização da análise de redes sociais na compreensão dos processos eleitorais e das dinâmicas sociais em Coimbra entre 1783 e 1817. Este método permite revelar como as interações entre indivíduos, influenciadas por laços familiares, posições sociais e profissionais, moldaram a distribuição do poder e a governação local, ou seja, como influenciaram os critérios nas escolhas dos eleitores nos processos eleitorais do município. A investigação mostra-nos a importância dessas interações nas transformações ocorridas no início do século XIX, quando novos grupos de influência, como bacharéis e lentes das Universidades, começaram a desafiar as elites tradicionais.

A book about the life of Agostinho Gomes da Rocha (1922-2016) and his wife Guilhermina Rosa da Conceição (1922-2018), and their family, from Mansores (Arouca). It provides a community context in which they grew up and lived, traces their life journey, and includes genealogical information, archival documents, and photographic images. The work employs a participant observation method, as the editor is the grandson of the couple at the centre of the study. Some contents available only in print.
