One of the testing methods used to simulate slurry erosion in laboratory conditions is the slurry-pot method. In this work, a novel high speed slurry-pot type erosion wear tester was constructed for testing of materials used in mining and other mineral handling applications. In the tester, the samples are attached to a vertical rotating shaft on four levels in a pin mill configuration. High speeds up to 20 m/s at the sample tip can be achieved also with large abrasive size up to 10 mm. In the tests, the equipment proved to be functional and durable even with the high loads created by the high speeds and large abrasive sizes. There are, however, variations in the slurry concentrations inside the pot during testing, leading to different wear rates at the different sample levels. Feng Shui is an important element to be considered for purchasing real estate property for many Chinese families. The concepts of Feng Shui has been gradually adopted and accepted in the western world. It has been found that, in many perspectives, there are similarities between the concepts of traditional Chinese Feng Shui where harmony between environment, buildings and people are created; and western style of sustainability that focuses the harmonious relationship between human and nature. This paper reviews the Feng Shui elements considered by Chinese families and explores the main features considered by the Western families when purchasing a home. The results will be used as criteria for developing significant factors in future empirical study. Through case studies in Sydney, the findings will be compared and the elements that are similar or different will be discussed. The implications of the research will also be investigated.

All industries in Malaysia, including government organizations, have had to comply with the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 to fulfill their responsibilities as an employer to ensure that workers have a safe workplace. The Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 requires employers to perform minimum duties to ensure the safety, health and welfare of their workers, thus, the joint responsibility between employer and employees in the government organizations are expected to ensure the safety of a workplace. Although this regulation binds employers, the Social Security Organization (SOCSO) statistics showed a fluctuation in industrial accidents, from 114,134 accidents in 1995 to 85,338 accidents in 1998, then the accidents increased to 92,074 in 1999, 95,006 in 2000, and subsequently the accident was reduced to 85,926 in 2001 until 56,339 in 2007. As a consequence, the adoption of an effective OHS management system as a tool to assist in meeting legal obligations should ensure the development of a safety culture and provide the best approach to reduce accidents in an organization. The authors were involved in the development, implementation and evaluation of an e-learning based postgraduate unit in the Faculty of Education. The development and delivery took place within the On Line Teaching (OLT) environment at the Queensland University of Technology. One of the main features of the unit is the integration of face-to-face and on-line tutorials that allowed the simultaneous participation by on-campus and external students. The barriers and obstacles encountered from planning, through design to delivery have been documented and critically examined. The obstacles and barriers can be mapped in a problem space bounded by time constraints, level of expertise, resource limitations and paucity of support. Based on this mapping it could be argued the current affordances of the OLT environment and the configuration of the Media Equipped Lecture Theatres (MELTS) and Computer Equipped Classrooms (CECS) may need to be more flexible to allow for this type of development, delivery and pedagogy.

This report presents the findings of a study conducted at the Urban Studies Lab of Queensland University of Technology (QUT)—with support from the Australian Government’s Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications (DITRDC)—that placed Australian local government areas under the smart city microscope to evaluate their performances. The study selected the local government areas that are in the greater capital city statistical areas along with the larger local government areas (with pop- ulation over 50,000) located beyond the greater cap- ital city statistical areas. These 180 local government areas—that house over 85% of the Australian population—are evaluated against the ‘Smart City Assessment Model’ criteria—that measure the smart city outcomes, and provide a snapshot of the smart city performance of the local government areas.

The purpose of this report is to illustrate current thinking and practices on equity and inclusion in philanthropy and development organisations, to inform C&A Foundation's approach. The report is designed to contribute to continued dialogue, learning and action – within the foundation and with grantees and other stakeholders – around what it takes for C&A Foundation to become a more equitable and inclusive organisation that positively impacts the rights and lives of garment workers

Clarias gariepinus (Burchell, 1822), a cornerstone of aquaculture in Nigeria, faces threats to its genetic integrity due to indiscriminate breeding and environmental degradation. This study investigates the genetic differentiation of C. gariepinus broodstocks from Rivers Benue and Donga using single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers derived from the mitochondrial 16S rRNA gene. A total of 30 specimens were collected, with 29 successfully sequenced and analyzed. DNA was extracted, and amplification was performed using species-specific primers. BioEdit and MEGA X were used for sequence alignment, SNP identification, and phylogenetic analysis. Results revealed high sequence similarity (99.0-100%) with the C. gariepinus reference genome (NCBI: KT001082.1), confirming species identity. Low sequence divergence was observed, reflecting high genetic homogeneity within this population. Nucleotide composition was slightly A-T rich, and the transition/transversion bias was R = 2768.32. Only one SNP (T/C at locus 431) differentiated the three haplotypes identified, while the Tajima's relative rate test showed no significant differences in evolutionary rates among haplotypes (χ² = 0.00; p = 1.000). In conclusion, the low haplotypic diversity and absence of functional mutations reflect genetic homogeneity among the populations studied. However, complementary analyses using DNA markers are required to fully understand the genetic differentiation in C. gariepinus.

The UK Government has recently announced a new Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 to facilitate tackling the threat of violent extremism. In light of this and previous initiatives, this paper provides a critical assessment of UK counterterrorism policy. This policy has created a notion of ‘suspect communities’ such that it has alienated young Muslims at the community engagement level, conceivably and empirically, potentially further exacerbating concerns government and communities have over questions of radicalisation, extremism, and the associated political and criminal violence. This paper argues that such policies can lead to the institutionalisation of Islamophobia, acting as an echo chamber for far right extremism to flourish. This research aims to assess the status and chemical properties of groundwater in the shallow aquifer of the Wadi Ranyah region, Saudi Arabia, using robust statistical methods (CoDA) that take into account the unique characteristics of chemical analysis data from forty-five (45) groundwater samples collected in the Wadi Ranyah valley. A centered logarithmic transformation (clr) approach and isometric logarithmic transformation (ilr) plots for compositional data were utilized to determine the different water types and to understand the hydrogeochemical processes influencing groundwater chemistry in the region. The results of principal component analysis and K-means clustering reveal the existence of three groundwater groupings: (i) The first group occupies the recharge region with a relationship between trace metal elements (F, Pb, Mn, Zn), pH, and TDS, indicating the effect of alteration of igneous and metamorphic rock minerals. (ii) The second group characterizes the downstream part of the Al-Hujrah area with a relationship between calcium and nitrates, indicating the influence of agricultural activities. (iii) The third group, located in the Ranyah area, shows a relationship between major ions (Na + , SO 4 2-, Mg 2+ , HCO 3 -, Cl -, K + ), which explains water mineralization influenced by silicate weathering and evaporation phenomena. According to the modified Piper diagram (ilr Piper), two hydrochemical facies are identified. The upstream region is categorized as Ca-HCO 3 -while the downstream region is classified as Na-K-HCO 3 -. Calculated water quality index (WQI) values indicate that all Wadi Ranyah groundwater samples are of very poor quality (WQI > 300). This is due to higher concentrations of polluting elements (Pb, Mn and F), in particular the high lead concentrations which vary between 0.24 and 0.4 mg/L, and are well above the WHO limit (0.01 mg/L) for consumption of drinking water. The application of CoDA for the first time in the study region has provided a more detailed and reliable assessment of the mechanisms governing groundwater quality, permitting suggestions for the management of groundwater resources and defining future research needs.

This paper describes a novel approach to implementing the ISO 45003 Psychological Health and Safety at Work Standard using an adaptation of a health guideline implementation strategy. The implementation planning approach used a combination of implementation teams and a facilitated implementation planning process to assist organisational stakeholders develop a plan for implementing ISO 45003. Six organisations from a regional part of Australia participated in a case study research project. A total of 29 semi-structured interviews were conducted with implementation team members, at two different time points, to understand their experience of participating in the implementation planning approach. The three central themes that emerged from the semistructured interviews were related to engagement with the implementation planning approach, the strategic composition and influence of implementation teams and standard versus project related approach to implementing change. The approach was effective in assisting organisational stakeholders to produce tailored and evidence informed plans for implementing the ISO 45003 Standard. Future improvements, such as the use of planning committees could further enhance the approach.

In this research, a simulation based optimization strategy is developed to improve the operation of airport security screening checkpoints (SSCPs). The simulation based optimization strategy aims to improve any airport's SSCP operations by providing a flexible modeling approach to decide optimal checkpoint configurations and their corresponding workforce allocations. Simulation based optimization is a suitable technique for problems involving data uncertainties that evolve over time, requiring important system decisions to be made prior to observing the entire data stream. This is indeed the case in SSCPs, where the passenger arrival times are difficult to predict and requirements for equipment and human resources must be scheduled in advance. The team explicitly included the uncertainties associated with future passenger arrivals and availability and performance levels of the resources in computing staffing and system configuration decisions. The proposed simulation based optimization strategy provided a 31.4% improvement for the passengers' cycle time when compared to a benchmark scenario.

Simulation-optimization proves to be an effective framework for addressing challenges associated with evolving data uncertainties over time, especially in situations where crucial system decisions must be made before the complete data stream is observed. This scenario is evident in airport security checkpoints, where predicting passenger arrival times is challenging, and pre-scheduling equipment and human resources is essential. This study focuses on an airport operating multiple security screening checkpoints, considering the complex nature of the operational environment. A comprehensive computational study is presented, highlighting how a simulation and heuristic based optimization strategy can be instrumental in planning resource allocation within airport checkpoints. This study incorporates different passenger types to evaluate how they impact the overall performance of the proposed strategy. The outcomes of this research are poised to make significant contributions to the enhancement of airport facility operations and safety. By developing innovative decision-making models that leverage technology and knowledge, the research aims to improve the operational effectiveness of airport security checkpoints. The devised simulation and heuristic based optimization strategy is a key component of this effort, offering a valuable approach to refining the functioning of airport checkpoints. Its ability to address uncertainties in real-time data sets it apart from deterministic approaches, promising to usher in improvements in operational efficiency and safety protocols within airport facilities.

This paper provides an investigation into the innovation and technology transfer (I&TT) process in the Small-to-Medium (SME) sector within a University-Industry collaboration context. This paper provides an initial insight into the main influencing factors that affect innovation and technology transfer (I&TT) in regional micro-manufacturers. This paper explores and reflects on the innovation and technology transfer experience by embedding oneself within a micromanufacturer. The experience initially focused on the manufacturing factors such as increasing productivity through work study and work-flow analysis, and introducing semi-automation, and flexible manufacturing methodology. However, as the project progressed, several non-manufacturing factors were identified as major influences in the I&TT process within the targeted micro-manufacturer. The ability to progress in improving the manufacturing factors is often dependent on these factors, and is categorized as personal and business related. The underlying project on which the paper is based involved a SWOT analysis on the business, learning and discovering the obstacles and barriers for I&TT, seeking and proposing ways to reduce it, and modeling the overall I&TT process within micro-manufacturers in regional areas, and termed regional knowledge diffusion (RKD) model.

To equip students with necessary skills to join the global labor force, various ESP/ EOP courses have been provided in Vietnamese universities aiming at enhancing students’ business correspondence writing ability. As part of such an attempt, this action research study employs genre-based approach in teaching EFL business writing and investigates its effectiveness. Particularly, a system of moves and steps was utilised in the modelling stage to reinforce the generic structure of students’ complaint emails. Data were collected through pre-test, middle test, post-test and a questionnaire to assess students’ writing progress and their attitudes toward the teaching approach. The results show that the genre-based approach fosters students’ writing competency, the teaching moves and steps support them to better grasp the target mail’s structure. The students also made better choices of linguistic features in writing though they still needed more time to express their ideas really flexibly....

The paper presents the development of a building system made from solid timber that fulfils the requirements of modern buildings while expanding the design possibilities through re-inventing traditional timber techniques. Press-fit-timber connections, which were the basis of centuries-long building traditions all over the world, can be cost-efficiently used in contemporary buildings using modern manufacturing techniques. The main goals of the research are: -Develop a building system with mono-material timber structures (in contrast to hybridization with concrete and steel) -Optimize the recyclability of building structures: Design to disassemble (on the level of the building and components) -Improve cost-efficiency by industrial manufacturing methods for mono-material timber constructions.

Culture is believed to have a crucial influence on innovation and the innovativeness of organisations. In order to quantitatively measure this influence, the current project explores the relationships between the dimensions of Hofstede's (1980) cultural model and the innovativeness of business units located around the world in the oil and gas industry. Innovativeness is measured by: (i) the number of patent applications filed and (ii) the number of technologies generated during a three-year period by the business unit. An online survey undertaken in collaboration with the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), collected data from the research and development (R&D) centres of multinational oil and gas companies around the world. While previous studies in this area have focused on datasets from specific regions or countries, this investigation offers a snapshot that includes innovation-related activities from many countries and cultures around the world. This study also examines the influence of cultural distance between the country of the responding organisation's headquarters and the country of the responding business unit, and examines how this distance affects innovative output. The four original dimensions of Hofstede's model-power distance, individualism, masculinity and uncertainty avoidance-are used in this investigation. The results indicate that power distance has a strong, positive influence on an organisation's innovativeness. When a company's headquarters or research centre is located in a country with a high power distance score, innovativeness notably increases. However, when the power distance score between the headquarters country and international research centre country increases, innovativeness decreases. In addition, the individualism scores of both the headquarters and local countries were positively related to the number of patents generated by overseas business units. In contrast, only the masculinity scores of the overseas R&D centre indicated a strong and positive influence on innovativeness. However, while masculinity distance was found to be highly correlated with patent outputs, it had almost no effect on the number of deployed technologies. Finally, the uncertainty avoidance scores of both the headquarters and overseas R&D centres were positively related to both measures of innovations; however, the uncertainty avoidance distance between the two countries was negatively related to the innovativeness of business units. This project has commenced an exploration of learning and information experiences in the QUT Cube. Understanding learning in this environment has the potential to inform current implementations and future project development. In this report, we present early findings from the first phase of an investigation into what makes learning possible in the context of a giant interactive multi-media display such as the QUT Cube, which is an award-winning configuration that hosts several projects.

Over the years, many conference committees and convenors of development programs have kindly invited me to speak and thus continued to challenge my thinking. More recently others have generously corresponded with me about their work, especially Susie Andretta, Doug Colbeck, Clarence Maybee, and Mary Somerville. This thesis investigates an emerging dynamic within contemporary activist cultures: the production, editing, sharing, and further transformation of digital images in response to the deaths of innocent civilians due to police brutality and to political injustice. I call this "digitally mediated martyrdom", understood as a ritualised communicative process that emerges in and through digital images to give visibility to the unjust killing of ordinary individuals, and establishes as its targets of protest systems of authority, abuse, and human rights violations. Experiment previously showed several findings that the strength of cold-formed steel cross-section are not the same, where web strength and flange strength do not give the same response when receiving the axial load. This occurs not only because of a shift in the center point of the force due to deformation of the cross section, but also due to different strengths in cross-section, especially on the web section and flange section. To find out more details of this case, the experiment carried out the tensile test for mechanics property and compression test with an axial load to find which parts are weaknesses, then used as a reference in combining the profile. The compression test results showed significant increase in compression capability between single profile with double profile back to back (Dbb) or double profile flange to flange (Dff) with ratio 1: 2.24 and 1: 2.44 respectively. In recent years, cold-formed steel sections have been used extensively in residential, industrial and commercial buildings as primary load-bearing structural components. This is because cold-formed steel sections are a high strength to weight ratio as compared to thicker hot-rolled steel sections, and their manufacturing process is simple and cost-effective. Currently, there are not many studies on cold-formed ferrocement composite due to the thin-walled nature of cold-formed. Hence, cold-formed members are susceptible to various buckling modes including local and distortional buckling and their ultimate strength behavior is governed by these buckling modes. Due to that, this research was aimed to contribute in solving the problem of buckling failure by introducing a composite action with ferrocement. Three numbers of composite columns with different cold formed size were cast and tested until failure. This research composed of two phases, experimental and analytical for validation; hence, the composite comparison shown an acceptable difference. The results of non-composite samples shown that cold-formed is susceptible to these three failures, distortion, local buckling, and flexural buckling. However, the provision of the ferrocement which made it composite has arrested the column from having a clear maximum flexural buckling failure, the composite samples test results indicated that the composite of h100 has a better load resistant compared to h75 composite samples with the difference of 212kN. It also showed that the ultimate load of the experimental satisfied the rules of the analytical BS.

Education is considered to be one of the sectors that have been radically affected by developments in information technology. E-learning is believed to be the main outcome of adopting and using the new and more advanced information technology in the education sector. In spite of this rapid growth in the elearning field there still exists a range of issues facing the stakeholders of e-learning systems. One of the key issues is measuring e-learning system success. Although considerable attention has been paid to the information systems success issue, there remain arguments about the factors which are most effective in measuring information system success. The issue of measuring information system success has an impact on evaluating e-learning systems success as well. This study aims to fill this void by proposing an evaluation methodology model to assess e-learning systems success. It was the mid---1960s and these elderly ladies were a distinctive feature of the Brisbane landscape, as distinctive, they seemed to me, as the giant fig trees that punctuated the suburbs and created mysterious deep---green grottoes in the city's very heart. They were ladies by virtue of the fact that their flat Australian manner had been softened by training in Victorian gentility and suburban respectability, Lampshade Ladies because of their invariable dress: a floral frock worn well below the knees, neat white gloves, handbag over the right arm, sensible shoes, and a large, head---encompassing hat woven in the exact shape of an old---fashioned lampshade. The ladies' common devotion to this style expressed, I presumed, fidelity to standards of dress and decorum instilled in their youth, which must have occurred some time around the Great War. Their steadfast resistance to change across half a century made them seem terminally quaint amidst the garish innovation of the sixties. To a self---obsessed, present---obsessed generation they were simply harmless relics, easily overlooked, a compliment the ladies returned with their blithe indifference. But for me, recently down from country Queensland, their manner of perfect belonging in the great sunstruck city seemed reassuring. Brisbane, viewed in imagination from the Darling Downs, had loomed as a bustling metropolis of intimidating dimensions and rampant crime, but I could hardly feel unsafe when the Little Lampshade Ladies navigated it with such calm self---possession. In fact the city proved surprisingly amenable, with the incomparable advantage of a cinema in every suburb. A compulsive cinephile, I frequented its many 'picture houses' even to the remotest reaches of the bay, and it was largely because of this abundance that Brisbane remained in my imagination great. Not until I'd travelled to Sydney and Melbourne (even better provided with cinemas) did I begin to look at its low---built skyline, dominated by a handsome but modestly proportioned City Hall, and see just a big, sprawling, country town.

The construction and maintenance costs of pavement are important aspects for road construction. The current research provides a newly technique for the use of jute fibre sheet as an interface layer between the subgrade soil and subbase layer which is limit in previous studies. The work involved comparison different locations for jute fibre sheet with the tradition approach of soil stabilization which imbedded the jute fibre sheet inside the subgrade soil. California Bearing Ratio (CBR) test was conducted on samples with jute fibre sheet, jute fibre sheet coated with bitumen and fibre only. Finite Element Models (FEM) using ABAQUS programme was implemented to show the effect of the new improvement on the vertical compressive strain at the top of subgrade and consequently rutting resistance. The experimental results showed a superior performance for the specimens containing bitumen coated jute fibre sheet placed at the interface between subbase and soil compared with unreinforced specimens (190 % penetration resistance). My intention with the given title is to explore how we can share our methods and communicate them to others using our body as a medium. Combining definitions and notions of knowledge and experience, the study attempts to figure out which knowledge is utilized to communicate relevant information. The theoretical discussion embeds collected literature and reflections from different fields, framed within the scope of human actions and behavior studies. Furthermore, the study explores a selection of methods and techniques developed in the diversity of body art, performance, and contemporary dance, observed as tools to share techniques and outlooks regarding the body as a medium of communication. The selection includes examples by Rudolph Laban, Trisha Brown, and Stelarc, as leading artists and researchers in the use of the body as a tool. The theoretical discussion of notions to explain this reflection quotes ideas from Diana Taylor, André Lepecki, and Richard Schechner (performance studies), as well as Markus Peschl and Heinz von Foerster (cognition studies) for reference. Finally, the research proposes to re-observe technology and communication tools in participatory performances with the potential to share informal knowledge using the body with others, understanding the body as a portable compilation of knowledge itself, yet not perceivably shareable with an audience, participants, or observers. On the other hand, it considers knowledge as a singularity and the possibility to communicate this archive as unique and non-repeatable. An interview series was conducted in an attempt to verify and explore the validity of this claim. The text also collects the most important examples of my methods applied between 2012–2014 in the MA Art & Science program activities, as part of the axis topic development, which uses different approaches within inter/transdisciplinary projects. .An explanation of the diploma exhibition serves as a concrete example of these points of view, connected simultaneously through one performance or installation. The performative installation explores the sharing of methods and tools as portable knowledge. The main topics examined are body and text: each in relation to art and science, but also as a metaphor of the body as a book-object. Can the body, by itself, be enough as a medium to describe and make assumptions about reality? The conclusion attempts to explain a method to use the body as a medium to share singular and individual knowledge with others through performative experiences.

This thesis analyses and describes tactics in resolution of conflict. The relationship and delineation between strategy and tactics, both being inherent to conflict, is poorly articulated. Consequently, tactics are inadequately defined, understood and applied. They are frequently confused with physical application of a technique rather than addressing the psychology and science inherent in decision attainment. This definitional inadequacy results in actions that are neither efficient, effective or ethical. Rock music has generally employed a static pop music song structure. Electronic Dance Music (EDM) on the other hand through beat-mixing has created an extended structure. The purpose of this research is to explore the proposition that EDM's beat-mixing function can be implemented to create immediacy in Rock music. The term used in this thesis to refer to the application of beat-mixing in Rock music is 'ClubRock'. Through collaboration between a number of DJs and Rock music professionals the research applied the process of beat-mixing to blend Rock tracks to produce a continuous ClubRock set. The outcome is the album the Manarays-Get Lucky. DJ techniques created immediacy in the recordings and transformed static renditions into a fluid creative work. The following research questions provided the means of investigation and the opportunity to validate the effectiveness of the album: How can Rock music implement EDM's structural fluidity to create an album in the form of a DJ set? How do Rock audiences read the ClubRock set as a Rock album? The inclusion of rhythmic sections at the beginning and end of each song created a 'DJ friendly' environment to beat-mix the album. Song structure changed as a result of beatmixing the album and this divergent structure included the addition of the EDM breakdown to the Rock composition. Transformational learning resulted from the phenomenological study which investigated tempi, vari-speed, beat-mixing and breakdowns in a new context. The hybridisation of the two genres, EDM and Rock, resulted in a contribution to Rock music compositional approaches and the production of a unique Rock album. .

In the Sejarah Melayu or Malay Annals, the fall of Singapura is widely appraised as an act of divine retribution unleashed upon rulers who have committed injustice. Implicit in this theodicy is the promise of moral justice enshrined in the Bukit Siguntang covenant, which ensures mutual reciprocity between the rulers and the ruled. But a cautious approach to the narrative of Singapura's demise reveals how justice is suspended, rather than upheld, in service of power. Enabling this suspension of morality is the transformative capacity of violence. This article performs a close reading on three consecutive episodes of unjust violence inflicted on a foreigner, a child, and a concubine, respectively, prior to the sacking of Singapura by Majapahit. In scrutinising the symbolic significance of these victims as persecuted by injudicious rulers, this article posits that violence functions as a rhetorical trope in the retelling of a Malay history. As victims are made scapegoats, unjust violence brings about the fall of Singapura and, by the same token, necessitates the birth of Melaka. Violence impels the forward movement of a royal genealogy by permitting an uninterrupted sequence of reigns through a sequence of crises.

Long-duration recordings of the natural environment have many advantages in passive monitoring of animal diversity. Technological advances now enable the collection of far more audio than can be listened to, necessitating the development of scalable approaches for distinguishing signal from noise. Computational methods, using automated species recognisers, have improved in accuracy but require considerable coding expertise. The content of environmental recordings is unconstrained, and the creation of labelled datasets required for machine learning purposes is a time-consuming, expensive enterprise. While it was well understood that the Faculty had long used studio pedagogies as a key part of its teaching approach, organizational and other changes made it productive and timely to consider how the various study areas within the Faculty were approaching studio teaching. Chief among these changes were innovations in the use of technology in teaching, and at an organizational level the merging of what were once two schools within different faculties into a newly-structured Creative Industries Faculty. This thesis articulates and examines public engagement programming in an emerging, non¬-traditional site. As a practice-led research project, the creative work proposes a site responsive, engagement centric, agile model for curatorial programming that developed out of the dynamic, new media/digital, curatorial practice at QUT's Creative Industries Precinct. The model and its accompanying exegetical framework, Curating in Uncharted Territories, offer a theoretically informed approach to programming, delivering and reporting for curatorial practices in a non¬-traditional sites of public engagement. The research provides the foundation for full development of the model and the basis for further research.

In early 2020, the spread of COVID-19 resulted in the wide use of online classes in China. Drawing on Foucault's disciplinary power and De Certeau's strategy-tactic dialectic, this paper explores the online learning practice of students in a rural junior middle school at Yu Town in Central China during the pandemic, through interviewing the students, teachers, and parents. The findings show that the teachers and the students engaged in a power game in online education and employed a series of strategies and tactics to realize the control and resistance through the creative use of media technologies. The study reveals the paradox that the rural students' agency and resistance, enabled by the media technologies, may result in negative consequences for their learning and further broaden the gap between rural and urban students, thus reproducing the system that they are dissatisfied with.

Many construction firms adopt diversification strategies to counter-balance economic downturns and diversify risks. The strategy can involve construction-related diversification (RD), unrelated diversification (UD) of products outside the construction industry and overseas market diversification (MD). Successful diversification leads to the desired scope and scale economies from different product segments and various markets. However, inappropriate strategies can lessen firm performance. Only limited information is available on the impacts of different types of diversification on firm performance. This problem is particularly complicated in developing countries, with their economies boosted by the rapid change in de jure formal institutional environments, which could affect their strategy effectiveness. However, little is known of how different dimensions of institutional environments could affect the relationship between diversification and firm performance. In addition, the type of ownership concentration of construction firms changes over time. It is not clear whether different ownership concentrations would affect the relationship between diversification and firm performance. The effect of underlying de facto informal contexts of ownership concentrations has not been captured in detail in previous studies and requires further attention. Therefore, this study aims to establish an explanatory model of the interaction effects between diversification strategies and institutional contexts that include formal institutional environments and ownership concentrations and their impact on large construction firm performance in Malaysia. The study adopted a mixed-method approach in which two (2) phases sequential explanatory design was followed. In the first phase, the design starts with a quantitative method to establish the empirical evidence in reference to the estimation models DIVERSIFICATION, INSTITUTIONS, AND PRODUCTIVITY PERFORMANCE OF LARGE CONSTRUCTION FIRMS IN MALAYSIA iii proposed in this study. In the second phase, the quantitative results were validated based on follow-up interviews. Therefore, in the first phase, to mitigate endogeneity bias, this study applied Generalised Method of Moments (GMM) estimator to analyse the impact of diversification strategies on firm performance of 86 public-listed construction firms in Malaysia over 14 years (2003)(2004)(2005)(2006)(2007)(2008)(2009)(2010)(2011)(2012)(2013)(2014)(2015)(2016). In the second phase, based on purposive sampling, six senior managers were interviewed for clarification and indepth explanations of the first phase results. The results show that UD and MD decreased firm performance in 2003-2009, while RD had a positive impact on firm performance during the more liberal phase in 2010-2016, with UD continuing to weaken firm performance. However, the impact of MD on firm performance was negligible in 2010-2016. The models for moderating effect show that the results of different phases are highly hinged on the changes in institutional dimensions and types of ownership concentrations which influence strategy effectiveness. Therefore, key policy implications are drawn from the findings, which may improve diversification strategy impact on large construction firm performance in Malaysia. First, it is important to recognise the type and level of diversification strategy contributing to differential firm performance. Secondly, policymakers should be alerted that the impact of economic and regulatory institutional dimensions may boost or dampen the effect of diversification strategy on firm performance. Thirdly, the increase in ownership concentration reinforces the embedded informal contexts, and it may work against the strategy impact on firm performance. Fourthly, the in-depth investigation of productivity components that are associated with the strategies highlights how the allocation of resources could be further improved. iv DIVERSIFICATION, INSTITUTIONS, AND PRODUCTIVITY PERFORMANCE OF LARGE CONSTRUCTION FIRMS IN MALAYSIA This study contributed to the field of construction firms' diversification strategy. Firstly, this study contributed to the literature by identifying the optimal level of RD, UD and MD that make a difference to firm performance. In this case, the pattern of relationship between diversification strategies and how it affects firm performance are illustrated in detail. Secondly, this study is the first to investigate the moderating relationship of institutional dimensions of economic and regulatory institutions on diversification-firm performance. Thirdly, this study contributed to the literature by identifying the underlying effect of ownership concentration that would offset the relationship between diversification and firm performance, specifically the informal contexts of norms and resource access. Fourthly, this study is the first to explore the components of scale and scope economies, this being crucial to the strategy that remains conjecture in previous studies. Lastly, this study contributed to explanatory models that would improve the current policy that encourages firms to diversify, to improve firm performance in Malaysia and developing economies.

Dynamic queueing networks (DQN) model queueing systems where demand varies strongly with time, such as airport terminals. With rapidly rising global air passenger traffic placing increasing pressure on airport terminals, efficient allocation of resources is more important than ever. Parameter inference and quantification of uncertainty are key challenges for developing decision support tools. The DQN likelihood function is, in general, intractable and current approaches to simulation make likelihood-free parameter inference methods, such as approximate Bayesian computation (ABC), infeasible since simulating from these models is computationally expensive. By leveraging a recent advance in computationally efficient queueing simulation, we develop the first parameter inference approach for DQNs. We demonstrate our approach with data of passenger flows in a real airport terminal, and we show that our model accurately recreates the behaviour of the system and is useful for decision support. Special care must be taken in developing the distance for ABC since any useful output must vary with time. We use maximum mean discrepancy, a metric on probability measures, as the distance function for ABC. Prediction intervals of performance measures for decision support tools are easily constructed using draws from posterior samples, which we demonstrate with a scenario of a delayed flight.

This research sought to find ways to assist communities to experience the value of thinking about the future and to develop confidence in creating and critiquing their own visions and roadmaps. The research drew on concepts from participatory Community Development (CD) and Futures Thinking (FT) to enhance Applied Theatre (AT) practice. The key theories framing the study are Inayatullah's (2008) 'six pillars' of FT, which includes Causal Layered Analysis (CLA) as a technique, and Kelly and Westoby's (2018) layered framework that progresses from implicate through micro, mezzo, and meta methodologies. The methodology of the study was practice-led, involving an evolving series of workshops in Australia and Timor-Leste, to reflect on these theories in practice using movement and drama techniques. The findings take the form of a new AT practice, named Embodied Futures. This exegesis outlines a framework for Embodied Futures, which sits alongside a guide detailing the practical activities to implement the framework in a range of contexts in the form of an Illustrated Exercises Book. The discoveries made through practice have implications for advancing all three fields on which it was founded. For CD, Embodied Futures provides a creative conceptual framework for considering meta method. From a FT perspective, the research offers further linking with participatory development practice and another suite of tools to embody futures concepts. Finally, for AT, this research extends how Forum Theatre and Process Drama can be thought about and delivered. The interweaving of these disciplines, through practice, can bring communities together to rehearse and re-imagine alternative futures that serve them.

This edition is dedicated to examining regulation of the Australian and New Zealand legal professions and their ethics. Most of the contributions are drawn from papers presented at the Third International Legal Ethics conference hosted by The University of Queensland and Griffith University in 2008. It is only five years since an edition of this Journal was dedicated to this topic (2004, v 23:2) but there are ongoing significant developments in Australian and New Zealand legal professions and the ethics of lawyers that demand updating and reconsideration. As the articles published in this edition demonstrate, there have been regulatory developments that, in Australia, are simultaneously bringing State and Territory legal professions together and innovating in the way that lawyers are allowed to practise. However, at the time this edition is being published, governments and professions across Australia are considering measures that are to introduce, for the first time, national regulation of lawyers. Lawyers will, yet again, confront profound changes to the way they practise and the ethics of their practice.

This research investigated the potential of folk opera as a tool for HIV and AIDS education in Papua New Guinea. It began with an investigation on the indigenous performativities and theatricalities of Papua New Guineans, conducting an audit of eight selected performance traditions in Papua New Guinea. These traditions were analysed, and five cultural forms and twenty performance elements were drawn out for further exploration. These elements were fused and combined with theatre techniques from western theatre traditions, through a script development process involving Australians, Papua New Guineans and international collaborators. The resulting folk opera, entitled Kumul, demonstrates what Murphy (2010) has termed story force, picture force, and feeling force, in the service of a story designed to educate Papua New Guinean audiences about HIV and the need to adopt safer sexual practices. Kumul is the story of a young man faced with decisions on whether or not to engage in risky sexual behaviours. Kumul's narrative is carefully framed within selected Papua New Guinean beliefs drawn from the audit to deliver HIV and AIDS messages using symbolic and metaphoric communication techniques without offending people.
