la crisis hídrica y encareciendo la gestión del agua. Además, la
exposición directa al sol favorece la proliferación de algas y la formación
de compuestos nocivos, comprometiendo la calidad del agua y la salud
pública.

Abstract
This dissertation investigates the effect of B Corp certification on employee satisfaction and organisational culture, filling a notable gap in corporate social responsibility (CSR) literature. While B Corp certification is often promoted for its external benefits, its influence on internal stakeholders, particularly employees, remains underexplored. The central research question examines whether B Corp certification leads to substantial and sustainable improvements in employee satisfaction and organisational commitment, or if its impact is more symbolic and limited.
Adopting a mixed-methods approach, this study integrates quantitative and qualitative analyses. The quantitative component involves statistical analysis of a large dataset of employee reviews, comparing B Corp-certified and non-certified companies across various industries and company sizes. This includes longitudinal analysis to assess changes in employee satisfaction over time and cross-industry analysis, with particular focus on sectors such as Technology & Digital, Food & Beverage, and Retail & Consumer Goods. The qualitative component includes sentiment analysis and thematic content analysis of employee feedback to gain deeper insights into how B Corp certification affects workplace culture and employee perceptions.
The findings indicate that B Corp certification is associated with moderate improvements in specific areas of employee satisfaction, notably diversity and inclusion, and career opportunities. These effects were particularly evident in industries where CSR-driven practices align closely with business models, such as the Technology & Digital sector. However, the study found no significant differences in overall employee satisfaction, work-life balance, or other key areas like culture values and compensation between B Corp-certified and non-certified companies. These results suggest that while B Corp certification can positively impact certain dimensions of employee experience, its influence is more nuanced and does not necessarily lead to broad improvements in overall satisfaction.
The research also highlights potential limitations, revealing that B Corp certification can sometimes serve more as a symbolic gesture than as a driver of transformative change. When certification is pursued primarily for reputational benefits rather than as part of a genuine commitment to CSR principles, the positive impacts on employee satisfaction may be superficial and short-lived. The clustering analysis, which categorised companies based on industry and size, further emphasised the importance of organisational context in evaluating the effects of CSR initiatives. The analysis showed that larger B Corp-certified companies tend to outperform smaller ones in certain areas like work-life balance and diversity, while in some industries, non-certified companies with strong internal practices may exhibit higher employee satisfaction without formal certification.
B Corp certification can enhance specific aspects of employee satisfaction, particularly in fostering inclusivity and career development. However, its broader impact on overall satisfaction, including key workplace issues like communication, leadership, and compensation, is limited. Organisations seeking to maximise the benefits of B Corp certification must commit to authentic and ongoing integration of ethical practices into their corporate culture. Certification alone is not a universal solution for improving the employee experience. It must be supported by effective internal practices that genuinely reflect the values that B Corp certification represents.

Data were gathered through interviews with production sourcing professionals in Canadian and U.S. apparel firms that use offshore, domestic, or combined offshore/domestic production methods. Findings indicate offshore production may result in lost time and profit due to lack of control, wasted materials, rising production and shipping costs, and decreased quality and consumer-perceived brand value. Localized manufacturing may increase firms’ competitive advantage through improved control of production processes; enhanced customization, adaptation, and response to consumer desire; increased perceived brand value; and reduced waste level, number of failed products, and markdowns. The tool is based on the four principles of "virtue" based ethics, "utility" based ethics, "duty" based ethics and "rights" based ethics. The tool uses perspectives of five key stakeholders: "the project leader, the project team, the project organization, the society in which the project is based, and future generations that the project might influence". New ethical aspects of the project were discovered, which has led to a more ethically mature consideration of projects within the company. An ethical risk assessment is a valuable add-on to the more conventional engineering risk assessments usually performed in projects of this sort. Furthermore, the tool helps to expand the horizon when defining success by looking at projects from the perspectives of distinct clusters of stakeholders, whom we can better understand by applying the four ethical theories.

Does responsible and sustainable business practice result in commercial and financial advancement? Does research illustrate the business/commercial benefits of using responsible business techniques including sustainability standards, sustainability reporting and codes of conduct? Are firms who take action to eradicate human rights abuses more profitable and sustainable? What is the evidence that being a more transparent and responsible business benefits firms in the long term? Where are the key evidence gaps?

Success in Project Management has been traditionally associated with the ability of the Project Manager to deliver in scope, time, cost and quality. The "iron triangle" is a very popular metaphor pointing out that the Project Manager is asked to reach a reasonable trade-off among various concurrent, heterogeneous and visible constraints. At the same time, "soft skills" for the Project Manager have been traditionally identified as a set of cross-cutting skills that should complement the core job of establishing and maintaining reasonable tradeoffs among the elements of the iron triangle. This paper postulates that this is not enough.

Many projects suffer from a commitment to active risk management. A look over the fence to another discipline, political management, shows, what the causes for such behavior may be, and the detrimental consequences it can have on all affected stakeholders.

The goal of this research is to explain the fast-growing textile and garment industries (TGI) in Vietnam from 2000 to present. This research is important in the context of Indonesia’s competition with Vietnam as among top TGI exporters in the world. This research adopted Gereffi’s Global Commodity Chains (GCCs) framework which situates TGI under the category of buyer-driven chains. Under this category, actors interested in industrial upgrading must develop both forward (marketing) and backward (production) linkages and learning process between this continuum. This research found that Vietnam’s fast growing textile and garment industries from 2000-present represents its successful industrial upgrading through its learning process in developing forward and backward linkages. Following these findings, therefore, Indonesia as competitor must also develop similar attitude and learning process in both linkages.

The study establishes the influence of ethics control mechanisms on the performance of water projects in Tanzania. The study adopted a critical empirical review of published researches. Specifically, the paper examined the unethical practices in water projects, the common causes for unethical practices and offer possible solutions to mitigate the practices. The end result of the paper is seeing improved implementation of water projects in the country i.e. on time, on budget and of high quality water projects. The purpose of this study was to investigate skills and knowledge for merchandising professionals in the South African apparel retail industry. An exploratory, sequential mixed method research design was implemented in two phases. Phase I followed a phenomenological approach focused on: (a) examining merchandising positions and responsibilities and (b) identifying skills and knowledge required for apparel merchandising professionals to fulfill their positions and perform their responsibilities. Data were collected through semi-structured individual in-depth interviews from a purposive sample of 16 merchandising professionals employed within the South African retail industry. Food waste occurs at every stage of the value chain. This is the part of food which is being discarded or lost uneaten. This part of waste has a credible share in the municipal waste which is not common only for the developed countries but also familiar for countries like Bangladesh. Management of this extensive amount of waste has become unavoidable as this problem is affecting the city areas specially the capital city Dhaka in a comprehensive manner. Thereupon more attention is being sought to manage this issue by the policy makers, industrialists and consumers to avoid its economic, environmental and social impacts. This Study has focused predominantly on the current restaurant situation is holding on in Dhanmondi area. Structured questionnaire was designed which queried regarding the waste management practice, encouraging policy for reducing waste and their future contemplation in waste management. The study used a mixed-method approach, relying on document analysis and interviews with relevant persons in the restaurant industry. The study begins by exploring issues in the restaurant food system that result in the current levels of food waste. It then identified the current context of restaurants in Dhanmondi area. This study found that substantial regulatory changes are required to achieve substantial reductions in restaurant food waste. Along with the management practices few questions were related to the average number of attendants, the amount of produced waste, the type of waste, the expenditure part for the management practice. Besides questioning there was an attempt taken to prepare compost from the restaurant waste. To do that waste was being carried towards a barrel compost. After waiting for two months the compost fertilizer was ready to use and the amount of compost fertilizer that came out from 3.9 Kg restaurants waste was 326 g. After separating non-biodegradable material like bone, oily tissue and bottle caps, the amount of compost reduced to 180 g. The overall cost was within 3000 BDT (35 US dollar) for preparing the composting barrel.

Purpose: The current study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of a semester-long anti-food waste campaign regarding university student diners' food waste behaviors. Originality/Value: Food waste and specifically post-consumer food waste has become one of the most critical concerns in recent years. Post-consumer food waste has also become a major concern and area of interest on U.S. college and university campuses, as numerous administrators have started considering the impact of waste within their dining operations. However, there have been limited examples of how to successfully cut down on food waste that is produced by students. Therefore, this study offers insight into how compiling baseline numbers for food that is wasted on campus and actively engaging and informing students of their impacts, can successfully help decrease the amount of waste that is produced on a university campus. Relevance to the Topic: Food waste on college and university campuses has become increasingly important to administrators and foodservice providers due to environmental and fiscal concerns. Finding ways to successfully decrease the amount of food that is wasted has the potential to both save money and improve regional waste management systems. El presente trabajo de fin de grado consiste en el estudio de un caso centrado en el grupo Bestinver. Se ha utilizado la metodología del estudio del caso en las áreas a analizar. Se presentan las principales decisiones estratégicas. Se identifican las debilidades y fortalezas de la empresa así como las amenazas y oportunidades. Asimismo, se muestra el diseño organizativo y la estructura que mantiene el grupo, para dar posteriormente una breve exposición del sector que permita ubicar la importancia de los factores anteriores. Por último, se exponen una serie de propuestas de mejora en cuanto al diseño y la estrategia, modificando la estructura y externalizando una serie de secciones que no mantienen ninguna ventaja competitiva, e incorporando una serie de medidas que permitan centrarse en aquellas actividades que más valor aportan obteniendo un mayor rendimiento. 2. OBJETIVOS Los objetivos a desarrollar durante el presente Trabajo de Fin de Grado son los siguientes:-Delimitar y analizar las principales estrategias seguidas por el grupo Bestinver.-Observar el diseño organizativo del grupo.-Conocer su situación:: DAFO. en relación con su sector, y las características que le han llevado a la posición actual.-Proponer alternativas que mejoren la gestión de la misma desde el punto de vista económico, estratégico y organizativo. 3 MARCO TEÓRICO 3.1 Dirección Estratégica Los enfoques más representativos dentro de este ámbito son los aportados por Porter (1985), quien introdujo una estructura describiendo tres estrategias básicas de competencia: liderazgo en costes, diferenciación y enfoque. En relación a la estrategia de diferenciación, primera de ellas, la organización trata de distinguir sus productos y servicios de otras compañías. Es posible alcanzarla de diversas maneras como características diferenciadoras de sus productos o servicios, tecnología única, servicio al cliente excelente o mediante el uso de publicidad efectiva. Esta estrategia se enfoca en clientes cuya preocupación principal no es el precio y están dispuestos a pagar un importe superior, por lo que puede ser una estrategia muy lucrativa. Esta estrategia puede reducir la rivalidad con los competidores si conseguimos la lealtad de los clientes para con las marcas que utiliza la compañía. En relación a la estrategia de liderazgo en costes, trata de aumentar la participación en el mercado mediante el bajo coste de sus productos o servicios en comparación con sus competidores. La organización buscará la máxima eficiencia en las instalaciones y la reducción de costes en todo el proceso, con controles estrictos para conseguirlo. En cuanto a la estrategia de enfoque, la compañía se concentra en un mercado concreto mediante la dedicación a un nicho de mercado, un conjunto de compradores con características similares diferentes a los del mercado general y cuyas necesidades no están cubiertas con los productos o servicios diseñados a gran escala. Esta estrategia podrá asimismo orientarse partiendo de las anteriores, buscando para el nicho de mercado a explotar la diferenciación de la competencia o centrándose en el liderazgo en costes. 3.2 Análisis DAFO El análisis DAFO diferencia entre las características propias del ambiente externo como oportunidades y amenazas; y aquellas que se dan internamente en la organización como son fortalezas y debilidades.

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) refers to business contribution to sustainable development. There is a comprehensive literature exploring the relationship between CSR and Corporate Financial Performance (CFP). Since social responsibility was first discussed in the 1920s, a plethora of papers have been written on the topic. A number of reviews have been published focusing on the relationship between CSR and CFP. For consumer industries greater Corporate Social Performance (CSP) is associated with better CFP, and the opposite is true for industrial industries. This review of the literature questions whether responsible and sustainable business practice result in commercial and financial advancement. It also looks at whether the evidence available illustrates the business/commercial benefits of using responsible business techniques including sustainability standards, sustainability reporting and codes of conduct.

The study establishes the influence of ethics control mechanisms on the performance of water projects in Tanzania. The study adopted a critical empirical review of published researches. Specifically, the paper examined the unethical practices in water projects, the common causes for unethical practices and offer possible solutions to mitigate the practices. The end result of the paper is seeing improved implementation of water projects in the country i.e. on time, on budget and of high quality water projects. Findings from reviewed studies revealed that “Dark contracts”, intentional misreporting, inflated contract sum, unfair and dishonest conducts by contractors, fraud, buy-in tactics, bribery and corruption, collusion tendering, taking shortcuts, using substandard materials and shoddy construction significantly affects implementation of water projects in Tanzania. The effects of unethical practices on performance of water projects ranges from over-pricing of activities, time and cost-overruns, delays in water projects implementation, low absorption of resources and finally poor quality of water projects. Therefore, the opposite of the above, is that projects that went through due processes are highly correlated to their performance and sustainability. From my review, projects of this category seem to be limited given the ethical dilemma in the country. These findings indicate non-compliance to Public Procurement Act (2011) by contractors in public projects for many years. The paper concludes that if government control’s ethics, performance of water projects would be obvious. Contractors and consultants would have insignificant influence if the government is upright there and complies with the legal requirements not based on recommendation from third party. This paper forms a foundation and feedback to the water sector in Tanzania. It recommends transparency and publication of contracts, use of whistleblowing-channels, strengthening project management control systems, client involvement and strict contract exit strategy based on Post Implementation Review report to ensure successful performance of water projects in Tanzania.

Public Chef Intellectuals use restaurants as a topos to advocate for a more humane and sustainable food culture. They direct appetite both in the sense of creating delicious food and in the sense of articulating food politics. In a rhetorical analysis of Dan Barber's experimental 2015 pop-up wastED, we find he employed three topoi in his rhetorical strategy to induce appetite: a glossary that situates his project within the context of our food system, a design that drew attention to the often-invisible nature of waste, and a plate that subverted expectations. These rhetorical places became material, interlocking arguments to help diners develop an appetite for what we now label as waste. wastED allowed Barber to create a space to reflect on what separates food from waste, prompting debate.

In Bangladesh, the poultry products are now severely contaminated with toxic heavy metals from different means including natural and man-made pollutions. Interestingly, poultry-based fast foods, which have a quicker preparation time, low price, good taste and easy availability, are very famous among people of all ages. Therefore, burger, sandwich, samosa, shingara, sauce, and noodles were analyzed for the detection of Lead (Pb), Chromium (Cr), Cadmium (Cd), Arsenic (As) and Nickel (Ni) by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry. It has been found that chicken burger contains the highest concentration of Pb (1.14 mg/kg fresh weight), Ni (0.31 mg/kg fw), and As (0.28 mg/kg fw). On the other hand, the highest concentration of Cr (0.101 mg/kg fw) and Cd (0.04 mg/kg fw) was found in the sauce. Unfortunately , all the examined foods contained the heavy metals to an extent that crosses the safety level for human consumption set by different international public health agencies like WHO. Moreover, evaluation of poultry feeds showed high amounts of Pb (range 1.40-6.59 mg/kg fw), which exceeds the safety level set by WHO (0.5 mg/ kg). When Pb containing poultry feed was supplied to the chicks and sacrificed after 6 months, Pb was found in all the tissues examined that cross the safety limit. After-wards, burgers were made from these chickens and high amount of Pb was observed in those burgers too. All these results showed that heavy metals from different sources could make access to the human food chain and impose an immense health risk.

As part of 3rd year Honours course, a research work entitled Food And Dhaka University: A Case Study of Selective Halls was carried out by five students of International Relations department of Dhaka University. The key purposes of the work were: 1) To know if standard diet is provided to the residential students; 2) To find out the nutritive status of the halls; 3) To know about the purity of foods served in the halls; 4) To know about the food management system in the halls; 5) To collect and study the opinions of the residents, cooks, hall authorities and others concerned; 6) To find out the reasons behind, if the study revealed, any pessimistic scenario and lastly, 7) To suggest some measures to the authorities concerned for improvement of food condition. The Major Findings a) From the survey: Two hundred and fifty (250) students of five DU halls-fifty each from Zia Hall, Salimullah Hall, Shahidullah Hall, Rokeya Hall and Bangladesh Kuwait Moitri Hall-were surveyed. As many as 71% of the respondents are of the opinion that bad quality food is served in the hall dinings. The food is somehow tolerable to 25% of them while 4% of the respondents opined that food served is good in quality. Asked to comment on the cleanliness in the kitchen, almost all the respondents found it to be in very unhygienic condition. b) By undertaking microbiological tests: One of the central purposes of the research work was to know if the food served at DU dining rooms are free from contamination. With that purpose in view, microbiological tests were undertaken on three fixed samples of food collected from one Hall dining room at the microbiological centre of IFST (Institute of Food Science and Technology) under BCSIR (Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research). Apart from the cooked food, microbiological test on drinking water was also conducted.
