New Media and Education

The work presented here is an exploratory and descriptive study under a qualitative approach. It purposes was to show the use of television series, as a means of teaching and learning professional ethics in communication undergraduate students. Among the results we found two direct areas of impact: teaching and learning. In the case of teaching, the professor shows an innovative practice and she realized different ways to improve it as a continuous way to advance her teaching. In the case of learning, the use of television series promoted the interest of the students and a significant learning. However, the most important finding of this study is that the teaching experience has contributed in the educational process of communicators specifically in ethical thinking.

This chapter explores the evolving landscape of sustainable tourism law, focusing on how legal frameworks can facilitate the transition from sustainable to regenerative tourism practices while supporting the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This study explores international, regional, and national legal instruments that support the development of sustainable tourism. It highlights best practices and innovative legal pathways that foster environmental stewardship, promote social equity, and strengthen economic resilience. By drawing on case studies and policy analysis, the chapter examines how tourism law can be effectively aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Key legal challenges are addressed to uncover opportunities for reform. The chapter concludes with practical recommendations and presents a clear roadmap for policymakers, legal practitioners, and tourism stakeholders dedicated to advancing regenerative tourism.

Este estudio pretende, en una primera instancia, detectar las áreas vinculadas a la postproducción audiovisual que han integrado las diferentes herramientas de IA, siguiendo la taxonomía para aproximarse a la categorización de sus múltiples aplicaciones desarrollada por autores como Anantrasirichai (2022), que atiende a las siguientes funcionalidades: creación de contenido; análisis de información; mejora de contenido y flujos de trabajo de postproducción; extracción y mejora de información; y compresión de datos. A partir de esta clasificación, se pretenden ubicar las herramientas concretas en las diferentes fases del flujo de trabajo de la postproducción audiovisual: edición de vídeo y audio; composición digital y VFX; conformado; corrección de color y masterización. En un segundo nivel, a partir de los resultados obtenidos en la primera fase de documentación y categorización, se plantea el desarrollo de un itinerario formativo que integre las principales herramientas en la impartición de la asignatura ‘Postproducción Digital’. Entre los resultados preliminares, destaca la necesidad de incluir en los módulos de composición digital las diferentes aplicaciones de IA Generativa desarrolladas por la suite de Adobe, como Firefly y las diferentes funcionalidades que hacen uso de esta tecnología integradas en los diferentes programas como Adobe Photoshop, Premiere o After Effects. Por último, en línea con recientes investigaciones (véase Amankwah-Amoah et al., 2024), se discute sobre la necesidad de ponderar el ingenio humano con la innovación tecnológica, abriendo nuevas vías a la creatividad sin eliminar el elemento humano. Es por ello que se busca incluir estas competencias técnicas desde un punto de vista crítico que invite a la reflexión activa en torno a estas herramientas por parte del estudiantado.

Since education promotes social and economic advancement, a nation\'s school and college levels require a well-defined and futuristic education strategy. "India has designed and planned to adopt a new education strategy throughout the next decade of the twenty-first century called the Indian National Education Policy under the direction of its current government and an expert committee with people from various backgrounds (NEP-2020)". Practitioners and the general public are familiar with the aims, goals, and specifics. To give everyone access to high-quality primary and secondary education as well as postsecondary education and have the expectation of comprehensive and research-oriented advancement, NEP-2020 is an innovative and futuristic plan with both positive and negative features. This paper begins with an overview of NEP-2020, identifies the policy\'s strengths and weaknesses in the higher education and research sectors, evaluates the implementation recommendations made in the procedure, and identifies and analyses potential generic strategies for NEP-2020 implementation to achieve its goals based on focus group discussions.

У цій статті розглядаються основні особливості методу кейс-стаді з метою підвищення якості досліджень,  спрямованих  на  вивчення  та  розуміння  соціально-психологічних  явищ.  Необхідність використання  методу  кейс-стаді  зумовлена  умовами,  в  яких  наразі  перебуває  Україна,  коли дослідникам важко відстежити та зрозуміти суть соціально-психологічних феноменів за допомогою традиційних лінійних моделей наукових методів.

This study explores the reality of teaching mass communication theories
courses in media and communication programmes at Arab universities, given the significant changes in the communication environment. It focuses on the course's role in the curricula, the approaches and theories taught to students, the teaching methods used, and the educational resources employed, as well as how these theories are connected to the media and communication context in the Arab region. The research involved a content analysis of 25 descriptions of mass communication theories courses from various media and communication programmes across different Arab universities, both public and private. The study revealed several noteworthy findings: All the universities included in the sample recognised the importance of teaching media and communication theories, incorporating them into mandatory courses. Most of these courses are allocated three hours per week, similar to many media programmes at foreign universities, with 60 % of them having
no prerequisites. The majority of course descriptions emphasise theories
related to media impact from a functional perspective, while marginalising
theories from the critical and interpretive perspectives. In addition, the study finds that 96 % of the course descriptions did not reference the Arab media context or the cultural and social context of the Arab audience consuming or using media content.

School deviance is one of the main problems of today’s society and a cause for concern, having turned into a topic of public interest. The present article looks at the significance of the school-family-proximity partnership, underlining both the benefit of prevention and the work of the stakeholders. We shall explore the intervention measures and programs implemented in order to prevent and mitigate school deviance, and discuss the importance of have these evaluated. Also, the article provides examples of international programs and the results of their evaluation, as well as the current national strategy implemented through the recently established National Council for Preventing and Fighting against Violence in Schools.

This study examined the relationship between meeting the World Health Organization's (WHO) 24-Hour Movement Guidelines for the Early Years and motor skills and cognitive function in preschool children. Participants were 4-year-old boys and girls in urban and rural areas (n=69). Physical activity was measured using a triaxial accelerometer (ActiGraph GT3X). Screen time and sleep duration were assessed via self-report by guardians. Meeting the 24-h movement guidelines was defined as: 10 to 13 h/night and nap of sleep, ≤1 h/day of sedentary screen time, and at least 180 min/day more than 1.5 METs. Motor skills were evaluated by the Ages & Stages Questionnaires, Third Edition (ASQ-3). Executive functions (shifting, visualspatial working memory and inhibition) were evaluated by the Early Years Toolbox (Japanese translation). The prevalence of children meeting all three recommendations was 7.2% and 7.2% met none of the three recommendations. Children meeting physical activity recommendation had a better inhibition score compared to children meeting none of the recommendation (p=0.005). While, children not meeting the sleep recommendation had a better inhibition score compared to children meeting of the recommendation (p=0.042). In conclusion, meeting the physical activity or sleep recommendations were positively or negatively associated with the inhibition score. On the other hand, meeting none of the sedentary behaviour and the 3 recommendations was not associated with motor skills or cognitive function.

In this chapter, we will address how Yoga may contribute to psychological wellbeing. En este proyecto trataremos las reformas educativas generadas a traves de la Ley de Educacion Superior No 241945 aprobada el 14 abril de 1993 y asimismo la Ley de Educacion de la Provincia de Buenos Aires N°11612, aprobada el 22 de diciembre de 1994. Debido a ellas las mejoras y reformas que se dieron en la educacion quedan explicadas en este trabajo.

Considering the multitude of languages and the fact that beginning literacy is a key literacy practice in children's education, we aim at identifying how images are approached in a textbook used in the first grade of elementary school and accredited by Brazil's National Textbook Program (PNLD, 2010). We also seek to discuss the extent to which the analyzed sample provides a comprehensive and critical reading of visual texts. The analysis was done based on interpretive epistemology, the sociocultural approach to literacy, and visual language syntax, which can contribute positively to the analysis of visual discourse. We concluded that the image in the sample is presented from sociocultural approaches, that the reading activities foster visual literacy, and that teachers' support plays a significant role in adopting approaches to reading and in conducting reading activities per se.

Latest developments in information technology resulted in a revolution in library and information sciences. Acquiring electronic searching skills together with the availability of electronic resources will enable researchers to access a plethora of up-to-date information and will lead to productivity in research. This study tried to investigate the availability of electronic databases at Arab university libraries, whether faculty members can search electronic databases, and the frequency of database usage. The homepages of 202 Arab universities were browsed and a sample of faculty was interviewed. It was found that 80.7% of Arab university libraries are still traditional and lack electronic databases, including some open universities, virtual universities and universities of science and technology. All university libraries in the Gulf States except Shari'aa universities contain electronic databases. It was also found that most databases are in English; Arabic databases are lacking. Foreign universities, such as the University of Columbia in the Sudan and the American Universities of Cairo and Beirut host many more databases than Arabic universities. It was found that all electronic databases at Um Al-Qura University were used 3686 times a year only. On average, a student or faculty member uses all databases once a year. Taking into consideration that the subscription fee for a single database per year can be as high as US$ 24,000, it can be said that database usage at Arab universities with database access is not cost-effective. In addition, 94% of female faculty members and 97% of female graduate students and none of the library employees at King Saud University can search electronic databases. On the basis of these findings, the study recommends that all Arab universities and research centers have a network of electronic resources, and that Arabic specialized electronic databases be created and new documents be indexed and stored on a regular basis. Researchers should be allowed to access available databases on and off-campus. Electronic publishing in Arabic should be also encouraged.

This chapter outlines the beginnings of equivalency programmes in India through the Open Basic Education programme, which was initiated by National Institute of Open Schooling(NIOS) and supported by the National Literacy Mission. An equivalency programme is an alternative educational programme equivalent to existing formal general or vocational education. The chapter traces the genesis of the Open Basic Education programme and shows how the growth of adult literacy in India led to a demand for equivalent education for neo-literates. The open and distance learning system with its inherent flexibilities became the appropriate vehicle for equivalency programmes. This chapter describes the concept of equivalency, its international context in the developing world and its relevance for out of school adults. The author outlines the design and development of the curriculum, course materials as well as the process of examination and certification. The chapter describes the close partnership between different stakeholders leading to its successful implementation in India.

The sudden switch to distance education to contain the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has fundamentally altered adolescents’ lives around the globe. The present research aims to identify psychological characteristics that relate to adolescents’ well-being in terms of positive emotion and intrinsic learning motivation, and key characteristics of their learning behavior in a situation of unplanned, involuntary distance education. Following Self-Determination Theory, experienced competence, autonomy, and relatedness were assumed to relate to active learning behavior (i.e., engagement and persistence), and negatively relate to passive learning behavior (i.e., procrastination), mediated via positive emotion and intrinsic learning motivation. Mass media is considered as one of the most important means of communication. There are certain agencies of education like home, family, and society which play important role in educating masses. Along with these agencies, media has an important role to educate the masses as it has ability to influence the masses. This research analyzes the media landscape in Pakistan and its role in educating the masses. An in-depth analysis of media in Pakistan elaborates that media in Pakistan is not playing a vibrant and effective role to educate due to vested interests of media conglomerates. Both private and state-owned media require a complete revamp and revisit.The need is felt is to design contents keeping in social and psychological needs of the people. It was suggested that while formulating national media policy all stakeholders-government, private media, consumers and intellectuals, and academia should be consulted.

The National Education Policy 2020 aims to establish a unified Higher Education Commission of India and introduce a new National Accreditation Council with a binary grading system. However, the transfer of accreditation powers to private institutions raises concerns about the potential irregularities and risks associated with evaluating educational institutions through a private sector lens.

If we as educators want to make a change, it's high time we take the bull by the horns and realistically address and debate current issues related not only to art context but to art pedagogy. In this new information age, an innovative e-collaborative project focusing on education in and through arts, designed, continually supported and revised by the associated university departments, can work as a medium for developing cognitive skills that carry over into other areas. Among the main aims of such a project, one could name a few general ones in the abstract, which will be expanded and explained in the full paper: It will offer participants the abilities to reflect, to link information from diverse subjects and sources, to generate ideas; to honour various traditions, to recognize historical achievements and enjoy new technologies via arts, to respect different cultures and accept various points of view; to testify and connect opinions, to develop higher-order thinking skills in students, to work and communicate creatively outside the boundaries of a single class, a single school, a single country; to draw reasoned conclusions and grasp the connections that lead to creative solutions. This special @rt-platform, that we intend to 'build', can act as a kind of unifying force, as a 'cultural bridge', with arts being the key to accept and respect the 'other', to understand the world's cultures and civilization's legacies. This alone can be the main aim, the reason, in a general attempt of working together in establishing world's peace.

The main objective of this present study is to provide a detailed usage statistics of the Kuvempu University library portal during the academic year 2011-2012. The study examined the usage of library portal by research scholars, and faculty members of various science departments of Kuvempu University. The study investigated, and observed the factors like attitude and perception towards library portal, purpose of use, benefits of using the library portal. The study also identified the difficulties faced by respondents while using the library portal. The study shows that 85 % of respondents used the library portal. Research is the major reason for which majority (70 %) of respondents use the library portal. 75 % of the respondents opined that the portal has provided more efficient access to electronic resources (e-resources). 48.33 % of respondents have partially agreed with the information reflected on the main page of the portal. Low speed connectivity is a major problem found from this study. Based on the findings, the study suggests: proper training to the users as well as library staff, marketing of resources and services through advertisements, and display of printed guides, announcements of new e-resources, more high-speed computers for further improvement of library portal. This study would assist the library administrators in developing a more complete understanding of users information needs.

The paper explores the effects of the sociological concept of reflexivity to parents’ media education of preschool children. It draws upon the recommendations of the American Academy of Paediatrics referring to the restrictions of screen exposure based on different age groups, coviewing and discussing media content. It applies a social survey on the Slovenian national sample of parents to (1) review their media education practices, (2) identify the factors affecting these practices through regression analyses and (3) use path analysis to provide an explanatory model of the factors affecting children’s screen exposure. A Reflexivity Measurement Tool is applied to assess the parents’ meta-reflexivity scores. The hypothesis that meta-reflexivity is one of the key factors affecting media education is confirmed. Resumen. El audiovisual como documento tiene características que lo diferencian del resto de las fuentes. Las actividades correspondientes al tratamiento de la información audiovisual se corresponden con una serie de etapas que pueden ser descritas a partir de un ciclo de vida. La ceración de un ciclo constituye un modelo de trabajo en centros donde se produzcan o custodien colecciones audiovisuales. Se planteó como objetivo del estudio: establecer el Ciclo de vida de la información audiovisual. El presente estudio clasifica como descriptivo con aporte teórico y práctico. Para la obtención de resultados se emplearon los métodos analítico-sintético, histórico-lógico, inductivo-deductivo, sistémico-estructural y el análisis documental clásico. Se establece el Ciclo de vida de la información audiovisual a partir del establecimiento de seis etapas: 1) origen, 2) selección, 3) creación, 4) difusión, 5) procesamiento y 6) almacenamiento. The activities corresponding to the processing of audiovisual information correspond to a series of stages that can be described from a life cycle. The closing of a cycle constitutes a working model in centers where audiovisual collections are produced or guarded. The objective of the study was to establish the life cycle of audiovisual information. The present study classifies as descriptive with theoretical and practical contribution. The analytical-synthetic, historical-logical, inductive-deductive, systemic-structural and classical documentary analysis methods were used to obtain results. The life cycle of audiovisual information is established based on the establishment of six stages: 1) origin, 2) selection, 3) creation, 4) dissemination, 5) processing and 6) storage. The cycle integrates the actions related to the documentary processes and those related to the conception and realization of the audiovisual.

As modificações que novas tecnologias promovem nos métodos docentes, obrigam a pensar no professor e na sua formação, durante seu caminho profissional. A tecnologia quando não define as dificuldades da educação, não significa que o professor deva continuar imóvel perante a introdução das TIC no contexto educacional, pois há muito para ser pesquisado e discutido. Diante disso, objetiva-se analisar as atividades de formação continuada de professores e sua preparação para o uso pedagógico das TIC em sala de aula, além de, pesquisar características da compreensão pedagógica que orienta o planejamento da sua formação e capacitação, entendendo os princípios pedagógicos. Optou-se pelo estudo descritivo, realizado em função de professores e diretores para o entendimento da utilização das TIC. Após iniciou-se uma revisão sistemática da literatura, demonstrando a síntese de diversos artigos científicos admitindo conclusões gerais do assunto viabilizando a busca, avaliação crítica e síntese das evidências disponíveis sobre o tema, facilitando o uso dessas informações para o entendimento e ensinamento das TIC nas escolas. A obrigação de modificações na escola e na educação requer alterações na formação de professores, principalmente em relação à formação continuada em preparação para o uso das TIC em sala de aula. Todas as características, cobranças e práticas pedagógicas relativas à escola devem estar modernizadas nos cursos de formação continuada de professores.

As arquiteturas pedagógicas são estruturas especialmente elaboradas para suporte à aprendizagem. A concepção de uma arquitetura pedagógica (AP) acontece com a definição de objetivos (de aprendizagem - o que aprender?), atividades (o que fazer?), metodologias (como fazer?) e recursos digitais (recursos que o aprendiz pode usar) para apoiar o desenvolvimento das atividades previstas na AP. Os espaços virtuais de aprendizagem evoluem para estruturas ajustáveis, onde é possível moldar e potencializar a aprendizagem. to examine how public universities in the Middle East use social media to promote their agenda. Researchers analyzed prominent topics and democracy frames featured in the Twitter images and the structural characteristics of those images. The analysis shows significant differences between the three universities in terms of the most prominent topic category and democracy frame. A significantly higher proportion of the Twitter images posted by Kuwait University featured educational and political topic categories. The analysis of democracy frames shows that these public universities often used their social media channels to promote the respective government's political agenda.

Editorial preface This paper is about how we respond in situations of threat and social, enforced isolation. The results of the qualitative research are about the sense of identity in a threatening situation. From the perspective of transactional analysis, it can be seen as the recreation of a life script. The recreation of a self-image altered by an emergency situation. The young people who were included in the research had a renewed appreciation for life and a sense of security. For many, this evolved into an internal integration similar to the development of an Adult Ego State that benefits from access to the other Ego States. Forced isolation proved to be the impetus for positive personality transformation and internal integration of Ego States for many.
