In the year 944, two wonders arrived in Constantinople from the eastern borders of the empire: First, the Mandylion, a textile that Christ had miraculously imprinted with an image of his face, was brought to the city from Edessa. Second, to the awe of the city's inhabitants, male conjoined twins arrived from Armenia. In this article, I focus on the depiction of both events in the Madrid Skylitzes historical chronicle (Madrid, Biblioteca Nacional de España, MS vitr. 26-2). My goal is to show how the multifaceted meanings of the conjoined twins and the Mandylion operated in the context of imperial rule, political intrigue, and religious authority, from the text's origin in Constantinople to the manuscript's illumination in Norman Sicily.

The article presents the  extra-textual chanchellery notes in the acts of the Aragonese kings of Naples (1458–1501), the local branch of the Trastámara dynasty. These acts conformed to the practices of the chancellery of Alfonso the Magnanimous, King of Aragon and conqueror of Naples. However, there are differences and innovations in Neapolitan documentary production under the reign of Ferdinand I and his successors: the autograph intervention of the protonotary and logothete of the kingdom, which dated back to the Angevin tradition; the very important role of the Catalan Pascasio Diaz Garlón, who from the very day of the Magnanimous' death validated all financial acts and was the sovereign's true financial alter ego; the habitual use of autographs by the king and officers. The chancelleries of the Camera de la Sommaria, which managed the assets of the king, other officers, and royal princes, imitated the king's chancellery.

This paper examines the biblical usage and theological function of "clouds" (ʿānān, ʿāb, nephelē) in both Testaments and argues that their consistent meaning as theophanic media of divine presence invalidates the preterist interpretation of Revelation 1:7. Preterism's thesis that "coming with clouds" signifies divine judgment symbolized through the Roman destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70 depends on a semantic redefinition unsupported by lexicon, grammar, or canonical precedent.

The article is devoted to the reconstruction of the 1736 fortification line on Khortytsia Island. The calculations were carried out on the basis of archaeological research conducted in 2018 and 2019 within the framework of the site restoration and museification project. The results of the archaeological research were published in a 2020 article.

L'analisi dei contesti tardoantichi dello scavo dell'area del nuovo ospedale di Lucca, in località Arancio, permette di concludere l'itinerario nei paesaggi della campagna lucchese fra IV e V secolo d.C. iniziato quasi quaranta anni prima in località Corte Carletti di Orentano. La tipologia degli insediamenti individuati invita ad esprimere qualche ipotesi sulla struttura dei paesaggi, partando dall'evidenza iconografica – soprattutto di sarcofagi – del III-IV secolo d.C.

Il Cantico di frate sole possedeva una melodia composta dal suo stesso autore, san Francesco d'Assisi, purtroppo oggi perduta. L'elaborato studia il testo evidenziandone gli aspetti metrici e formali per avere dei dati utili a una riscrittura della sua musica.
La preghiera del Poverello si muove in un cammino di kenosis che partendo dall'Altissimo arriva alla lode di sora morte, si permette di stravolgere gli equilibri metrici per aggiungere un solo versetto che loda "quelli che perdonano", ricalca le immagini del libro dell'Apocalisse estendendo a tutte le creature il canto dei salvati. Un testo che da otto secoli ancora fa parlare di sé affascinando il cuore e la mente di studiosi e appassionati.
La versificazione e la divisione in lasse con le problematiche annesse, la discussa genesi redazionale, la dipendenza con i repertori musicali più vicini sono i passi che costituiscono il percorso per l'ideazione di un componimento quanto più vicino possibile all'idea del santo di Assisi.

This study maps the course of events and power struggles over the Archdiocese Salzburg between the years 1246 and 1266, which fall within the wider conflict known as War of the Babenberg succession. Firstly, the text attends to unleashing of the conflict and accession of Philipp of Sponheim to the seat of archbishop in Salzburg. The description of the most important war operations between 1249 and 1259 follows, when elected Archbishop Philipp drummed up support for his own governmental basis in Austria and Styria using unconventional methods. Subsequentchanges in alliances are discussed, especially after the important Battle of Kressenbrunn and slow deposal of both Philipp of Sponheim and his opponent Ulrich of Seckau. The secondary consequences of this partof the larger conflict over Babenberg heritage are examined in the wider central European context, including actions of the neigboring dynasties: Hungarian Arpadians, Czech Přemyslids, Bavarian Wittelsbachs, Carinthian Sponheims et al.

Asimismo, nos ofrece parte del trabajo desarrollado por los alumnos durante el curso 2012-2013, siendo el tema de investigación el celebrado Rolex Learning Center, obra del estudio Sanaa. Con este nuevo ejemplar, la Colección CTA ETSAM continúa su vocacional labor de difusión de las producciones de estudiantes y profesores, acercándonos directamente al ambiente de sus aulas, facilitando el conocimiento de las actividades de la ETSAM y De forma muy especial, la publicación que presentamos nos ofrece una aproximación al último curso de docencia que ha estado a cargo del profesor Antonio Miranda, uno de los maestros más respetados y reconocidos por el alumnado y también por los profesores, y uno de los referentes más característicos del sesgo marcadamente intelectual de la enseñanza que se imparte en la ETSAM. Forjador del pensamiento crítico y ético de muchas generaciones de arquitectos desde sus clases en la asignatura de Proyectos, desde sus personales cursos de doctorado y también, en estos últimos años, desde el Máster de Proyectos en esta Escuela, el profesor Miranda ha sido uno de los impulsores más enérgicos y personales del pensamiento y el debate en esta Escuela. Esta publicación nos ofrece una pequeña muestra de su labor y nos sirve, además, para agradecer su trabajo docente a lo largo de las últimas décadas.

Ce volume rassemble onze communications sur le thème des réseaux présentées en 2015 au 140 e Congrès national des sociétés historiques et scientifiques, tenu à Reims. En matière de réseaux, la notion d'« acteurs » est à comprendre dans le sens le plus extensif qu'on puisse imaginer. Il n'est point de réseau sans acteurs pour l'incarner, l'animer et le développer et à la diversité des réseaux répond celle, infinie, de leurs acteurs. Le volume aborde en premier lieu les personnes physiques, de chair et de sang, acteurs plus ou moins institutionnalisés, comme les « valets à pied » et « messagers de ville 1 » qui accomplissent le port des messages et la transmission des informations, allant jusqu'à parfois assumer un rôle officiel de représentation, ou les agents de renseignement 2 , dont la mission est d'espionner et de recueillir subrepticement des informations politiques ou militaires. Mais il y a aussi les acteurs non institutionnels, plus informels, que constituent les « relations », parents proches ou éloignés, condisciples, amis, correspondants, relations professionnelles ou sociales, que tout un chacun peut avoir autour de soi. L'étude fine présentée ici des réseaux d'André Ruplinger 3 , de Gabriel Hanotaux 4 et aussi de l'éditeur zurichois Jean Nötzli 5 en illustre à la fois toute la complexité et l'efficacité. On le sait, le monde savant, depuis au moins la Révolution scientifique de l'époque moderne, a coutume de travailler en réseaux transnationaux. L'évoquent ici les exemples des agronomes et des érudits, collectionneurs et historiens du xix e siècle 6 . Un des principaux moteurs de ces réseaux savants est l'échange de correspondance, qui relie des chercheurs souvent géographiquement dispersés et qui constitue un des fondements de la République des lettres. Mais il y a aussi les publications qui s'échangent et se confrontent, et il faut souligner l'importance primordiale du rôle des traducteurs 7 dans ces « réseaux de papier ». Et que dire du monde religieux, où le modèle réticulaire domine. La correspondance plurilingue du baron Davillier (1823-1883), collectionneur, historien et donateur des musées nationaux, met en lumière l'existence et le fonctionnement d'un réseau transnational de collectionneurs liés par un goût commun pour les objets d'art médiévaux. À l'instar de son ami le comte de Valencia de Don Juan , collectionneur et membre de la Real Academia de la Historia, Davillier forme une collection qui se distingue dès les années 1860 par des pièces de céramique et d'orfèvrerie espagnoles alors peu étudiées et/ou confondues avec les productions italiennes. Hispanophile érudit, il entreprend d'écrire l'histoire de ces objets. Les relations entre les intermédiaires (collectionneurs, savants, marchands, conservateurs de musées) permettent d'étudier la circulation de ces objets et des savoirs destinés à éclairer leur histoire. L'historiographie naissante de ces arts décoratifs au xix e siècle doit s'étudier au travers de ces relations qui s'établissent dans un contexte où coexistent complémentarité et concurrence. 1. Sans doute la place de la famille est-elle amplifiée par le type de courrier dont on dispose : elle en est la destinataire. Toutefois, André raconte par le menu ce qu'il fait, ce qui peut rétablir, au moins partiellement, un relatif équilibre entre ce premier réseau et les deux autres. C'est essentiellement à ses parents et à ses frères et soeurs qu'il s'adresse (fig. 2). Ils habitent ensemble à Lyon, 12, rue Molière et, à partir de 1913, 2, rue Pierre-Corneille (3 e arrondissement). L'été se passe à Neuville-sur-Saône, dans une propriété léguée en 1901 par Madeleine Chevelu, épouse Villard, d'origine neuvilloise, à sa nièce et filleule Adélaïde Pascalin. Sa mère, née en 1862, est décédée en 1907 ; il n'a pu lui écrire que deux lettres. Il a envoyé quarante-quatre missives à son père, quatorze à sa soeur Marie-Louise qui fait office de mère de famille jusqu'à son entrée au Carmel de Fourvière en 1912, dix-sept à sa soeur Eugénie qui prend le relais de la précédente, treize à son frère Pierre, huit à son frère Henri, trois à sa soeur et filleule Suzanne. Deux autres lettres sont envoyées à ses soeurs sans plus de précisions. Vingt messages adressés par son père ont été retrouvés, de même que neuf rédigés par Eugénie, cinq par Pierre, quatre par Marie-Louise, trois par Henri et un par Suzanne. La figure du père est prégnante. Cependant, les lettres d'André étaient lues en famille et chaque membre lui écrivait à tour de rôle. Au-delà de ce premier cercle, André demande et reçoit des nouvelles des membres lyonnais de sa famille élargie. Du côté de son père, seule une soeur, « tante Suzanne », épouse Pichon, habite à Lyon. Son fils Henri a sensiblement le même âge qu'André puisqu'il effectue son service militaire à Belfort à partir d'octobre 1908 (18 novembre 1908) (fig. 3). En revanche, le père et les frères et soeurs de sa mère sont très souvent cités (fig. 4). Jean-Baptiste Pascalin, né à Lyon en 1831, a vécu à Marseille où Jean Ruplinger a épousé sa fille Adélaïde. Na predavanju, ki ga je imel Dragan Božič 24. septembra 2025 v Medobčinskem muzeju Kamnik, je zbranim predstavil izbor doslej delno neznanih zgodnjih pokrajinskih fotografij Kamnika in okolice, nekatere tudi iz svoje lastne zbirke. Posnete so bile v času od 1869 do 1900. Prikazani so bili posnetki blejskega fotografa Benedikta Lergetporerja (1845-1910), ljubljanskih fotografov Ernesta Pogorelca (1838-1892) in Julija Müllerja (1844-1914) ter celovškega fotografa Aloisa Beera (1840-1916). Obiskovalci predavanja so si na eni od miz lahko ogledali več izvirnih fotografij Lergetporerja, eno Aloisa Beera in tri Johanna Baptista Reinerja (1825-1897), ki jih je predavatelj prinesel s seboj. Slednje tri so del albuma s fotografijami gradnje gorenjske proge Ljubljana-Trbiž, ki so bile posnete v letih 1869 in 1870. ///
At a lecture given by Dragan Božič on September 24, 2025 at the Kamnik Intermunicipal Museum, he presented a selection of previously partly unknown early landscape photographs of Kamnik and its surroundings, some from his own collection. They were taken between 1869 and 1900. The photographs were taken by the Bled photographer Benedikt Lergetporer (1845-1910), the Ljubljana photographers Ernest Pogorelec (1838-1892) and Julius Müller (1844-1914), and the Klagenfurt / Celovec photographer Alois Beer (1840-1916). On one of the tables, the lecture attendees could view several original photographs by Lergetporer, one by Alois Beer, and three by Johann Baptist Reiner (1825-1897) from Klagenfurt / Celovec, which the lecturer had brought with him. The latter three are part of an album with photographs of the construction of the Ljubljana-Tarvisio or Gorenjska railway, which were taken in 1869 and 1870.

This paper aims to use Lacan's idea of the mirror stage to analyze three examples of canines in medieval literature-namely, the Prioress' dogs from Chaucer's The Canterbury of Tales, the dog-man hybrids from John Mandeville's Book of Marvels, and Marie de France's eponymous werewolf, Bisclavret-to explore how canines function as externalized fragments of human identity, exposing repressed traits, internal conflicts, and anxieties. Lacan's mirror stage proposes that the construction of the self is dependent on external images and objects-"the function of the mirror stage thus turns out, in my view, to be a particular case of the function of imagos, which is to establish a relationship between an organism and its reality" (Lacan 78). Lacan's theory follows a twofold structure -there is the self that one discovers through feeling and sensation, and there is the self that one discovers after encountering the image of one's own reflection (both literal and figurative); thus, there is the disjointed, feeling self, and there is the unified externalized self-there is also the uncomfortable gap between the two: these are the constituents of identity.

From today’s perspective, direct communication between the Bosnian and
Serbian courts in the 15th century is evidenced only by a transcript of a diplomatic document from October 1458. It is the charter of King Tomaš issued to the logothete Stefan Ratković. Despite this, according to documents from neighbouring countries, it is possible to shed some light on the issue of their mutual communication. Given that these
are neighbouring countries with a large common border, it is quite logical to conclude that during the 15th century there was fairly frequent interaction between the population and political elites. During this period, Bosnian and Serbian rulers fought, made peace, were part of the same or opposing coalitions of a broader nature, negotiated, made various agreements and other contacts, as was usual during the late medieval times. For these purposes, envoys were certainly sent to diplomatic missions in both directions. In addition to direct communication, Bosnian and Serbian dignitaries frequently communicated through the Ragusan authorities and their extensive network of diplomats. With the indirect information that arrived in Ragusa through the Bosnian, Serbian, and Ragusan envoys, it is possible to single out data that indicate direct diplomatic contacts and communication. Traces of communication between the Bosnian and Serbian courts can also be followed through documents created by the Venetian authorities and the Hungarian kings. This research aims to determine the traces of this communication and situate them within the political context of the countries involved at the time.

Manuscript 50 (46) from the library of the monastery of Putna contains a text entitled "Discourse on the appropriate manner of standing in the church." The first part explains the Eucharistic liturgy, from the vesting of the priest to the moment before the epiclesis. The service is dramatized as an interaction between the priest and an angel of God, who later enters a battle with a demon that distracts the congregation. The second part of the text consists of the vision of the monk who lost his faith in the Eucharist. At the prayers of the community, he receives a revelation of the reality of the liturgical mystery, in which he is shown a child slaughtered on the altar table. The visionary text in the first section is part of a tradition attested in the Slavonic environment of the Balkans, which later became popular in the Russian world. These Slavonic versions are based on a similar visionary text attested in Greek manuscripts, but the similarities are only partial. The present study places the text from the Putna manuscript in relation to the iconography of the liturgical space and highlights the relevance of this type of literature for understanding the local monastic culture.

The two incomplete probable harness fittings described here, found in Norfolk by metal-detectorists, are of comparable size and form, but uncertain signification. Both are copper alloy, with engraved and gilded decoration. In this overview, I include several works by Evagrius Pontius / Evagrius the
Solitary (345–399 AD), whose translations in the Slavic tradition are identified, as well as others that are in the process of research. The author is considered to be the basis of monastic literature and the creator of a specific style of exposition. The texts are as follows: Paraenetic chapters (Capita paraenetica, CPG 6583a and 6583b), On prayer (Περὶ προσευχῆς (De oratione), CPG 2452), On the eight evil thoughts (De octo spiritibus malitiae, CPG 2451); Instruction to monks (Institutio sive Paraenesis ad monachos, CPG 2454); borrowings by Evagrius Ponticus in the Practical spiritual chapters of Saint Theodore, Bishop of Edessa / Theodore Abū Qurrah (c. 750 – c. 825), (Τοῦ ὁσίου πατρὸς ἡμῶν Θεοδώρου ἀρχιεπισκοπου πόλεως Ἑδέσης κεφάλαια πρακτικὰ γνώσεως καὶ διακρίσεως). The latter is of great interest because it reveals the perception of Evagrius' texts as a model for spiritual achievement in an environment of Christian assimilation, closely related to that of the Slavic monastic communities. These paraenetic texts,
intended for the spiritual improvement of the monks and the achievement of the philosophy of monastic discipline, are placed in a specific type of composition, which circulated even in the first monasteries in the Bulgarian lands. The study of the manuscript tradition of these collections is key to understanding the translations from Byzantine Greek and their linguistic peculiarities, which can be traced back to the 9th–10th centuries and the Late Middle Ages.

This chapter is an act of remembrance, to recall creatively the wounds that my body went through and at the same time to celebrate the transformation that they allowed to happen. It is a speculative fabulation on wounds, coming from an autoethnographic text/diary of the dreams – night and day – experienced and recorded after a surgery aimed to remove a cancer in my uterus. The three hours’ surgery defined a seminal moment for my life and transformed my body on a deep level, introducing me to a sudden menopausal stage  and to a female body without a reproductive system. Although the growth of a cancer in my uterus rendered the vulnerability of my physical life on this planet incredibly palpable, paradoxically, in time, it also made me into a body much more attuned to my nature and desires. The text is an analytical auto-ethnographic account, a constellation of connections about wounds and the female human body in its vulnerability and transition, about pain and shapeshifting, transitioning bodies performing their liveness and getting wounded in the process, and about the immense spiritual dimensions that can emerge from these wounds.

The Foundation Charter of Sztum Dated 23 September 1416 This article presents a scholarly edition of the foundation charter of Sztum (Ger. Stuhm), dated 23 September 1416, preserved in the State Archives in Gdańsk (Ger. Danzig). Despite its historical significance, this original source has not been utilised in previous historiography of Sztum or in broader studies on the history of Prussian towns during the Middle Ages and early modern period. Instead, researchers have relied exclusively on eighteenth-century copies. The first part of the article examines how the charter has been used in historiography since the second half of the nineteenth century, discusses the history of the Sztum archives from the eighteenth to the twentieth century, and reviews the surviving eighteenth-century copies of the charter housed in the State Archives in Gdańsk. The second part provides an analysis of the content of the original document and outlines the methodology used to produce a map of Sztum, including a hypothetical reconstruction of the town's landed estates (municipal patrimony). The third part offers a description of the document's physical characteristics and explains the editorial principles applied in the publication of the charter's text, which is included as a source edition in the appendix.

During the archaeological rescue investigations from “Ghica‑Daniel House/ St. Petersburg Hotel”, from the archaeological site Old Town Center‑Princely Court in Iasi, an area of about 2710 sq.m. was investigated. Inside it were identified and investigated 199 complexes and archaeological contexts, dated in the Eneolithic, Middle Ages and Modern era. Thus, in this perimeter were found the stone structures corresponding to the fencing wall of Trei Ierarhi monastery, most likely dated to the 17th century, to which was added the foundation of the northern wall of the secondary building belonging to the complex “Casa Ghica‑Daniel/ Hotel St. Petersburg” (18th-19th centuries). These structures overlap and incorporate foundations and walls from the Ghica Houses, which in turn overlap medieval complexes from the 15th-17th centuries, as well as some remains of Cucutenian complexes. The building on the northern side of the St. Petersburg Hotel measured about 10.50 / 11.0 m × 68.0 m. Under this building were discovered and investigated two stone sewers, which discharged their contents into a stone main sewer (Cx. 81), with a length of 48.60 m. These architectural elements, as well as the pits for clay exploitation or those for lime quenching, completely or partially destroyed the habitation complexes (dwellings, pits with uncertain functionality) of the Eneolithic period, but also from the 14th–15th, 15th–16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. During the archaeological excavations, no less than 14 habitation complexes have been identified. Among them, the complexes 60, 63, 73/87, 77, 79, 94/96/108 and 166 can be dated on the basis of particularly rich archaeological material in the 15th-16th and 17th centuries.

La escultura gótica valenciana conforma un capítulo prácticamente inexistente
hasta ahora en la historiografía del arte valenciano. La idea de que la escultura
gótica valenciana era irrelevante frente a las otras artes estaba generalizada.
Importantes escultores y/o talleres como los de Pere de Guines, Bertomeu
Santalínea, o Carles Gonçalbez, han sido ignorados. Algunas piezas de decisiva
importancia como el techo de la Sala Dorada de la Casa de la Ciudad de València y muchas otras de difícil acceso carecían de las fotografías adecuadas, o de levantamientos 3D. Las piezas mal catalogadas, incluso en museos de referencia, son numerosas. El desconocimiento de este episodio es particularmente lamentable porque su excelencia artística es similar a lo acontecido en la arquitectura y en la pintura coetáneas. Nel vasto campo multidisciplinare delle ricerche su Dante, la letteratura, la filosofia, la teologia, la storia e la storia dell'arte, integrate più recentemente da un rinnovato interesse per il diritto, hanno offerto un prezioso contributo da un lato a una migliore conoscenza della sua formazione e della sua cultura, tanto ricca quanto variegata, e dall'altro a una maggiore comprensione della sua opera, alla sua contestualizzazione, all'individuazione delle sue fonti e all'evidenziazione della sua straordinaria profondità intertestuale e interdiscorsiva. È in questa prospettiva critica fortemente interdisciplinare che vuole inserirsi questo volume, dedicato alle nozioni di giustizia e misericordia al tempo di Dante (in senso lato: XIII e XIV secolo). Il convegno internazionale è stato finanziato dal Comitato Nazionale per la celebrazione dei 700 anni dalla morte di Dante Alighieri e cofinanziato dall'Université Jean Moulin, dall'ENS de Lyon, dall'Institut de Recherches Philosophiques de Lyon (IRPhil), dal LabEx COMOD dell'Université de Lyon e dal Laboratoire Langages, Littératures, Sociétés, Études Transfrontalières et Internationales (LLSETI) dell'Université Savoie Mont Blanc.

La cattedrale di Monopoli costituisce il risultato del più grande cantiere attivo nella Puglia del Settecento che crebbe comportando la distruzione dell’edificio medievale voluto dal vescovo Romualdo all’inizio del XII secolo. Gli studiosi coinvolti nella preparazione del volume hanno lavorato per dimostrare come la chiesa costituisca ancora un prezioso palinsesto degli interventi di epoche diverse. Sulle vestigia romaniche, a loro volta cresciute sui resti d’età messapica e romana, ancora visibili nel succorpo, s’innestò l’edificio tardo barocco al cui interno si conservano manufatti che coprono un arco temporale che va dal XII al XIX secolo. Un cospicuo numero di opere attesta le complesse fasi di importazione da alcuni dei maggiori centri artistici italiani.
