This paper considers the role of nostalgia-based leisure in the present COVID-19 pandemic. Enforced lockdowns and social distancing initiatives have been met with various media channels replaying famous sport matches, classic films and memorable concerts from the past. Furthermore, social media is full of families interacting more; playing traditional board games and numerous other leisurerelated activities such as baking bread and making fresh pasta. Nostalgia may well end up being one of the primary coping mechanisms (for all generations) of enduring isolation, fear -and a general loss of freedom. It is also worth considering whether we are now creating our own future nostalgia where, when the crisis is through, we will long for the social bonds and sense of community the pandemic created.

Teniendo en mente que hay ciertos rasgos del capitalismo que no
varían y que son estructurales, también es preciso remarcar que es
un sistema increíblemente flexible que se reinventa constantemente
(Palermo, Radetich y Reygadas, 2020). La diversificación y heterogeneidad
de los tiempos de trabajo pasan a constituirse en características
distintivas del capitalismo contemporáneo (Delfino, 2011). En
esta dirección, el presente capítulo propone problematizar lo que se
delimita como tiempo de trabajo en ámbitos ligados al desarrollo de
tecnología. Para ello, y partiendo de una investigación cualitativa con
perspectiva etnográfica, recuperamos la experiencia de los/las trabajadores/
as en la empresa multinacional argentina de tecnología, Globant.
Sostenemos que el ocio institucionalizado (Krepki, 2019), bajo
la máxima de que el trabajo con connotaciones lúdicas aumenta la
productividad, socava el carácter improductivo del ocio y lo transforma
en constitutivo de la jornada laboral prolongando el tiempo de
permanencia en los espacios de trabajo, capitalizando así el tiempo
reproductivo. Asimismo, esta estrategia permite a las empresas ejecutar
un control sofisticado de los tiempos de trabajo y no trabajo,
materializado en la internalización de la autorregulación temporal en
los/las trabajadores/as bajo una ficción de autonomía y flexibilidad.

Za modernu arhitekturu i turizam, posmatrano istoriografski i idejno, može se reći da imaju nekoliko zajedničkih odrednica koje ih svrstavaju u optimističko-emancipatorske društvene tokove XX veka. Posle Drugog svetskog rata turizam postaje jedna od vodećih privrednih grana i značajan instrument u sprovođenju socijalne politike blagostanja u mnogim zemljama sveta, a naročito onim socijalističkog uređenja, kakvo je posle rata uspostavljeno u Jugoslaviji. Intenziviranje turističkih aktivnosti u posleratnoj Jugoslaviji bilo je podstaknuto uvođenjem obaveznog i plaćenog godišnjeg odmora, kao i sve aktivnijom ulogom sindikalnih organizacija u sprovođenju socijalnog turizma, naročito tokom prvih posleratnih godina, kada je novi radnički stalež trebalo motivisati za odlazak na odmor u vidu aktivnog učešće u kolektivnoj obnovi radne energije.

During the 20th century, tourism evolved into one of the most significant social phenomena and leading economic branches. The strategies and models of tourism development have evolved over time, shifting from ideologically-oriented to economically-driven approaches. However, market characteristics have emerged as a key factor influencing the overall image of the tourist offer. From a historiographical and ideological perspective, modern architecture and tourism share several common determinants that align them with the optimistic-emancipatory social currents of the 20th century. In order to provide tourist services, a variety of tourist facilities have been created for the accommodation and stay of tourists.
In the aftermath of the Second World War, tourism emerged as a dominant economic sector and a pivotal instrument in the realisation of social welfare policies across numerous countries worldwide, particularly within the socialist framework that emerged in Yugoslavia in the wake of the war. The ideology found a distinctive opportunity to advance the emancipation of society and the integration of the Yugoslav identity, particularly in the domain of tourism. The establishment of tourist activities in post-war Yugoslavia led to the introduction of mandatory and paid annual leave, as well as an increasingly active role for syndicate organisations in the implementation of social tourism, particularly during the first post-war years. This was a period when the new working class needed to be motivated to take their vacation and actively participate in the collective renewal of labour energy.
From 1947 to 1955, during the period of post-war reconstruction and construction, tourism acquired a distinctly social character, with vacation becoming a privilege of the working class. This was also reflected in the more frequent construction of workers' resorts. The architectural design of the resort was tailored to meet the fundamental requirements of workers on vacation, reflecting the influence of socialist realism during the transitional period of repressive policies and constrained material conditions. Over time, the number of tourists increased, necessitating the construction of more extensive tourist accommodation facilities and their modernisation, particularly in terms of design, spatial organisation and the incorporation of new content. It was emphasised that the construction of workers' resorts was a responsibility of the syndicate, and through them also of the architecture, to create new buildings that would correspond to the social and cultural needs of the working man in terms of their content and purpose.

Apenas 36% da população brasileira atinge a quantidade mínima de atividade física recomendada pela World Health Organization (WHO, 2020). Esta condição agravou-se devido à pandemia SarsCov-2, o Covid-19, que trouxe como consequência a insegurança de indivíduos para sair de casa durante o confinamento e distanciamento social (WACHS; LARA; ATHAYDE, 2020). A procura por espaços abertos é uma alternativa par a prática de exercícios, e este estudo procurou investigar as dicotomias entre os espaços públicos disponíveis nas cidades com maior e menor renda do DF, a partir da aplicação do protocolo SOPLAY/ SOPARC. A pesquisa realizada foi qualitativa e descritiva; foram selecionados o Parque Sarah Kubitscheck no Plano Piloto e o Parque Três Meninas, em Samambaia, para coleta e comparação de dados. Foram feitas 4 visitas, em dias úteis e em finais de semana, com uma hora de duração cada visita para registro dos dados. Foram observadas 441 pessoas praticantes de atividade física, destas, 82,09% no parque Sarah Kubitscheck. A maior parte das pessoas observadas nos dois parques foi de adultos (75,76%), sendo caminhada a modalidade de atividade mais praticada (60,54%). Mais homens (150) que mulheres (117) foram observadas durante as coletas. Considerando todas as variáveis levantadas no estudo, parece que a utilização de dos parques pela população se dá de acordo com os benefícios que o mesmo parque oferece: quanto maior a estrutura, maior público. A utilização reflete o estilo de vida da população, que seguem tendências diferentes de lazer de acordo com fatores individuais como gênero, e coletivos, como renda, áreas de lazer e outros aspectos relacionados à condição de vida e trabalho.

A multiple year project to understand visitor and community benefits, values, and conflict at US Army Corps of Engineers (CE) recreation areas was undertaken by the University of Minnesota (UofMN) and CE. This first effort focused on the Kaskaskia watershed area (KWA) in Illinois (Kaskaskia River, Carlyle Lake, Lake Shelbyville, and the Navigation project) and included onsite visitor questionnaires, marina member questionnaires, community member interviews, and community surveys. This report focuses on visitor experiences at Carlyle Lake, Illinois. The methods for the on-site and mail questionnaires implemented at Carlyle Lake are presented in the following sections: study site, sample, questionnaire, and analysis. Carlyle Lake, located in southwestern Illinois, stretches 83 miles through Clinton, Bond, and Fayette counties. The 26,000 acres of surface area create the largest human-made reservoir in Illinois. It includes three marinas, five campgrounds, four beaches, two state parks, and a state fish and wildlife area. Carlyle Lake provides a variety of recreation opportunities throughout the four seasons and hosts more than 2.8 million visitors annually. Carlyle Lake visitors with a range of interests in outdoor recreational activities were the target sample. Visitors were systematically selected in 2003 and 2004 through an onsite contact at four locations: campgrounds, spillway areas, day use/sightseer areas, and boat ramps. Onsite questionnaires were administered across 16 days of sampling with sampling times varying to maximize user variability. Visitors were invited to participate in a mail survey at the time of contact. Onsite: An onsite questionnaire was designed, approved by Office of Management and Business (OMB) and by the UofMN Institutional Review Board (IRB), and pretested in 2003. Questionnaire sections focused on: (1) experience use history with the CE area, (2) place attachment to the CE area, and (3) demographics. Mail: An eight-page questionnaire was designed, approved by OMB and UofMN IRB, and pretested in 2003. Potential respondents received this eight-page questionnaire and introductory letter in the mail. The letter explained the purpose of the questionnaire and ensured anonymity and confidentiality. Questionnaire sections focused on: (1) desired and attained benefits, (2) primary areas for benefit achievement, (3) crowding expectations and preferences, including satisfaction and conflict, and (4) value of CE area. ii Analysis Data were entered, cleaned, and checked for singularity and multicollinearity in SPSS version 11.5. In addition, extreme outliers were Windsorized to bring highly skewed variables into usable ranges. Descriptive analysis provided means, standard deviations, and frequencies to describe the sample and provide information on variables of interest. Cronbach alpha's assessed scale reliability for place identity and place dependence dimensions. To identify benefit factors, principal components factor analysis was used with standard criteria of eigen values greater than one, factor loadings 0.40 or greater, and meaningful structure. Fourteen items failed to load or cross-loaded and were eliminated from further analysis. Subsequently, caution with interpreting the benefit factors is encouraged. Correlations identified the relationship between benefit importance and attainment. Attainment was examined for the group overall as well as only for those that rated the benefit as important. Only benefits that were both important and attained were mapped. Response Rate Onsite: Of the 1,121 visitors contacted, 83 percent (n=930) agreed to complete the onsite questionnaire. Those who did not participate typically indicated they were not interested, did not have enough time, or did not read/speak English. Mail: Five hundred thirty-two respondents included their name to receive the mail questionnaire. A modified technique resulted in a 45.7 percent response rate (n=232). A nonresponse bias check was employed and indicated respondents had stronger place attachment and longer visitation histories than nonrespondents. details on length of stay, visit frequency, group description, main recreation activity, place attachment, and place identity. Place attachment followed past research and used six items to measure each of the place dependence and place identity items, where respondents indicate their agreement on a scale of one to five, with five equaling strongly agree. The second section focused on respondents and included education, ethnicity, race, language use, income, gender, age, and contact information for mail survey. OMB and UofMN Institutional Review Board's approved the questionnaire (Appendix A). The questionnaire was pretested among 30 CE visitors in June 2003 with no particular problems noted. This questionnaire was presented to systematically selected visitors at Carlyle Lake June through August summer 2003 and 2004, September and October fall 2003 and 2004, and April and May spring 2004. Visitors were approached at one of four areas (campgrounds, spillway areas, day use/sightseer areas, and boat ramps) and invited to complete the onsite questionnaire by trained University of Minnesota graduate research assistants. Survey data were entered into SPSS version 11.5, cleaned, and checked for singularity and multicollinearity. Descriptive analysis provided means, standard deviations and frequencies to describe the sample and variables of interest.

Gönüllülük üzerine mevcut araştırmalar sıklıkla motif ve işlevleri kategorize etmekte, ancak bireysel tutumlara tek başına odaklanmanın sınırlılıklarını vurgulamaktadır. Sistemik engeller ve beşeri, sosyal ve kültürel sermayenin nesiller arası aktarımı gibi bağlamsal faktörler, gönüllülük potansiyeli üzerinde önemli bir etkiye sahiptir. Bu çalışma, bir çocuğun üç tür sermayesine yatırım yaparak gönüllülüğü teşvikinde ailenin rolünü incelemektedir. Becerileri geliştiren örgün eğitimin ve müfredat dışı faaliyetlerin gönüllü olma olasılığında önemini vurgulamakta, aile içi güven ve ilişkilerde sosyal sermayenin büyümesinin gönüllülüğü nasıl teşvik ettiğini göstermektedir. Ayrıca doğrudan teşvik ve rol modelliği yoluyla aktarılan kültürel sermayenin nesiller arasında gönüllülük olasılığını pekiştirici yönüne işaret etmektedir. Nihayetinde ebeveynin çocukla sıcak ve destekleyici ilişkisinin yönlendirici bir etkiye sahip olduğu bu aktarımın daha geniş topluma katılım ve sosyal uyuma katkıda bulunduğunu ortaya koymaktadır.

The sex as leisure view contributes to positive sexuality values and serves as a coping mechanism for personal crises, public health crises, and challenging marginalising societal stereotypes. Nevertheless, the underlying tenets of this view remain understudied, especially among young adults, and a scale for measuring sex as leisure is nonexistent. Thus, the purpose of this research was to develop a scale for establishing and measuring the dimensions of the sex as leisure construct and examining the links between young adults' perceptions of these dimensions and their general sexual attitudes and levels of comfort with sexuality. Crosssectional data were collected using survey methodology (N = 270; 55.2% women) and analysed with exploratory factor analysis and general linear modelling. This study found three underlying dimensions of the sex as leisure view, including the perceptions of sex as intrinsic recreational pleasure, the frivolous time-filling leisure, and the biopsychosocial benefits of sex as leisure. The first two dimensions significantly predicted people's overall propensity to view sex as leisure. Sexual attitudes and comfort with sexuality significantly predicted perceptions of all three dimensions of the sex as leisure view, albeit in different ways. The study contributes to both research and practice in the leisure and sexual health fields.

Introduction The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on many people's sex lives. The ways people cope with these adverse impacts are an urgent area that needs to be recognized by sexual health researchers, practitioners, and policymakers. Thus, this study investigated sexual coping mechanisms during the pandemic while clarifying their determinants of use and usefulness and examining their impacts on the quantity and quality of sex life. Methods The cross-sectional data (N = 675) were collected using an online survey methodology in February-May 2021. The data were analyzed with one-sample and independent-samples t-tests, one-way between-subjects ANOVA, and multivariate multiple regression. Results This study identified eight sexual coping mechanisms during the pandemic, including creativity and pleasure, diversion, goal-setting, relational, educational, caution and logistical, online and technological, and innovation and experimentation strategies. All the coping mechanisms were used and rated significantly useful, albeit to different degrees. Gender, availability of a sex partner, the existence of children, and age served as determinants of different coping mechanisms' scope of use and degree of usefulness. The coping mechanisms predicted the frequency of sexual activity, sexual desire, and satisfaction with sex life during the pandemic. Conclusions This study's results can help scholars and practitioners prevent or mitigate the deterioration of sex life during the pandemics and other crises and stressors. It is essential to train people concerning sexual coping resources and strategies to protect their sexual wellbeing and quality of life. Policy Implications Health researchers, practitioners, and policymakers must consider maintaining sexual health as an essential service. Recognizing sexual health, rights, education, and counseling is a prerequisite for appropriate prevention measures during the pandemic. It is vital to ensure the availability of proper resources supporting people's sexual coping processes during and after the pandemic.

Understanding sexual leisure and coping in the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic is essential for effective education and praxis during and after the crisis. This study aimed to identify the clusters of copers based on their use of the coping mechanisms during the pandemic and profile them using the sexual, lifestyle, and socio-demographic characteristics. The data were collected using an online survey (N = 675) and analyzed utilizing cluster analysis, MANOVA, and chi-square tests. The results point to the existence of three coping clusters-i.e., Diverse Copers, Relational Copers, and Non-Copers-based on the relational, innovation and experimentation, goal-setting, creativity and pleasure, caution and logistical, and diversion leisure coping mechanisms. These clusters' profiles varied significantly in terms of the pandemic's impacts on sex life, lifestyle changes, and socio-demographics. These results help identify personalized factors and tailored strategies to help people navigate their sex lives during the public health crises.

People have become active users of Internet and social media applications going into every aspect of life. The purpose of this study was to investigate social media addiction and perception of boredom in leisure with respect to some variables and to examine the predictive power of perception of boredom in leisure on social media addiction. There was a total of 453 (212 females and 241 males) university students selected with convenience sampling method in the study group of the research. The participants filled the “Social Media Addiction Scale-Adult Form” (SMAS-AF) and “The Leisure Boredom Scale” (LBS). According to t-test results, there was not a statistically significant difference between mean scores in “SMAS-AF” and “LBS” scales. (p>0.01). How to Find Respite in the Modern Age Socrates reportedly said we should be "aware of the barrenness of a busy life" (p. 2). In light of this, how many of us appreciate and make enough time for rest and respite? Faced with the stresses and demands of our fast-paced lives, is increased rest the prescription we need? Today, many people claim they have a rest deficit. But what is rest-and how complicated is it to understand? Are we too busy today to appreciate the need for rest? What are the benefits of rest? Can we shift our mindset to make time for rest and enjoy that rest? What are the most common ways we find rest? Claudia Hammond's The Art of Rest: How to Find Respite in the Modern Age (2019) seeks to answer these questions, offering hope for the present and future. Indeed, her central argument is that the restorative state is good. The Art of Rest borrows findings from The Rest Test survey (circa 2016) of 18,000 people in 135 countries; it found that we are experiencing a rest deficit: "... many of us feel we are not getting enough rest. Two-thirds of respondents said this was true of them and that they would like more rest. Women reported getting an average of ten minutes less rest each day than men, and people with caring responsibilities also had less rest. But it was younger people," many of them working, who reported the least rest, comments Hammond (p. 2). Mentioned is the mobile phone which makes us contactable most of the time. The author partly managed this research project by focusing on the subjective experiences of "rest." Hammond is an academic lecturer, psychologist researcher, book author, and BBC radio and television presenter. In 2020, her book The Art of Rest was shortlisted for the British Psychological Society Book Award for Popular Science.

Addiction is a serious problem that affects both individuals and society. It can involve drugs, alcohol, or behaviors like gaming and social media. These addictions often come from stress, loneliness, low self-esteem, and social pressure. They affect the brain and make it hard for people to control their actions or make healthy choices. Recreation means fun and meaningful activities that people choose to do in their free time. These can be physical, creative, social, or naturebased. Recreation helps people feel better, reduce stress, and build stronger social connections. It gives them a healthy way to spend time and feel good without using harmful substances. This chapter explains how recreation can help prevent addiction. Physical activity, for example, improves mood and body image. Art and music let people express feelings in healthy ways. Spending time in nature helps the brain relax and focus. Social and volunteer activities build self-worth and reduce feelings of isolation. Recreation also helps people learn discipline and manage their time better. These skills are important in avoiding risky behaviors. Research shows that when people have satisfying things to do in their free time, they are less likely to turn to drugs or unhealthy habits. In short, recreation is not just about fun. It is a powerful tool to improve health and protect people from addiction. It should be part of any plan to support individuals and build stronger, healthier communities.

The purpose of this eighth edition of Pastimes is to extend the discussion about contemporary leisure to new concepts supported by the latest research findings and scholarly commentary.



In this edition much of the content is new, including an added discussion on architecture as material culture. As well, more attention to indigenous people within a leisure context is incorporated. There is also a new chapter that challenges us to look at leisure as a fundamental aspect of human rights. The implication of this chapter is to aid readers, learners, and instructors to think even more broadly about not only what leisure is but also what it can be.



This new edition of Pastimes also contains new illustrations of concepts through field-based cases, new biographical features, new exploratory and participatory activities, and new research study summaries.



More than a textbook, Pastimes is very much a point of view. It presents leisure as a human phenomenon that is individual and collective, vital and frivolous, historical and contemporary, factual and subjective, good and bad. Human life and its culture cannot be understood without understanding leisure. Leisure is a complex subject, yet worth knowing.

As Economíadas são organizadas por alunos dos cursos de Administração, Economia, Ciências Contábeis e Atuariais de universidades paulistas. Dada sua realização complexa, o objetivo deste estudo foi compreender a festa associada ao evento como uma organização que promove a aprendizagem prática dos seus organizadores, interpretando a festa tanto como um artefato (produto) quanto como um símbolo (significado) no contexto de aprendizagem. O estudo fundamentou-se na teoria da aprendizagem organizacional, que investiga como as organizações aprendem, focando-se nas experiências práticas bem-sucedidas e orientando condutas sobre o que as organizações devem fazer para promover o aprendizado. Utilizou-se o conceito de aprendizagem baseada na prática, cujo foco está no que é praticado e em como a prática gera aprendizado por meio das interações situadas e contextualizadas no ambiente em questão. A festa foi analisada por meio de uma etnografia, com dados coletados através de observação participante e entrevistas realizadas com estudantes organizadores das Economíadas de 2017. A análise revelou que a festa proporciona um espaço inesperado de aprendizagem, já que o processo de organização envolve lidar com imprevistos e aprender com eles. Na prática de organizar a festa, adquirem-se habilidades necessárias para a gestão de recursos, como captação de fundos, seleção de fornecedores, monitoramento de contratos e gestão do fluxo de caixa para pagamentos. Essa aprendizagem prática oferece aos estudantes um ambiente rico para o desenvolvimento de competências essenciais de gerenciamento e organização, aplicáveis no contexto das festas e em outros desafios organizacionais futuros.

A lo largo de la historia moderna, la celebración de bailes de máscaras
fue una constante en las cortes europeas como evento social y cultural.
En España, esta tradición tuvo que enfrentarse con las reticencias de la
jerarquía eclesiástica cuya influencia supuso repetidas prohibiciones o
limitaciones las cuales duraron hasta bien entrado el siglo XIX. Podemos
aventurar que la ciudad de Huesca no fue una excepción, teniendo en
cuenta la información de la que disponemos relativa a los diferentes
espacios escénicos y crónicas de fiestas conservada en los archivos
locales.

Este artigo objetiva analisar as concepções e experiências de lazer dos
professores de Educação Física (EF) que atuam na Educação Básica, na região metropolitana de Goiânia. O estudo realizado se enquadra como pesquisa do tipo exploratória, com abordagem qualitativa. Foram entrevistados 22 professores de EF que atuam na EB, na região metropolitana de Goiânia. Estes responderam a um questionário com perguntas fechadas e abertas. De posse dos dados coletados foi realizada a análise de conteúdo para se atingir o objetivo proposto. Como resultado, observamos que a maioria dos entrevistados entendem o lazer como um fenômeno vinculado à prática de atividades físicas e ao tempo de não trabalho. Concluímos que a concepção recorrente entre os entrevistados é a do lazer em suas acepções funcionalistas, as quais apresentam noções de que o papel do lazer é o de recuperar, dicotomicamente, o corpo e a mente
para o trabalho.

The aim of the research was to examine the incidence and characteristics of smoking tobacco, alcohol consumption and the abuse of different types of drugs among Croatian youth. The research was conducted on a representative sample (N=2 823) of Croatian high school students. A comprehensive questionnaire was devised for examining the frequency of smoking, alcohol consumption and abuse of various drugs along with the characteristics of the examinees and their families. The results were analysed with regard to age and gender differences regarding the frequency of substance abuse. During their lives 21.2% of high school students tried drugs, and a total of one fourth of those who tried drugs did it by the age of fifteen. The abuse of drugs is most widespread in the southern coastal area of Croatia, and in the City of Zagreb and northern coastal area. Introduction: Recreational sports activities can offer participants many physical, psychological, and social benefits. The flow state they feel during participation can give them a sense of satisfaction and positively change their attitudes toward participation in recreational sports activities. This study aimed to determine the role of recreational flow experience and well-being on the re-participation intention in recreational sport participants.

Method: A personal information form, the “Recreational Flow Experience Scale,” the “Recreational Sport Well-being Scale,” and the “Re-participation Intention Scale” were used as data collection tools. The sample group consisted of a total of 402 voluntary recreational sport participants including 191 women (47.5%) and 211 men (52.5%), who were selected by purposive sampling method in recreational parks and areas in Bingöl, Türkiye. The SPSS software was used to analyze data. Independent Samples t-test, One-Way ANOVA, Pearson Correlation analysis, and Regression analysis methods were used in the analysis process.

Result: Statistically significant differences were observed between re-participation intention and the variables of gender, years of participation in sportive recreational activities, and frequency of participation. Statistically significant differences were also found between the frequency of participation in sportive recreational activities and life satisfaction and positive feelings subscales. There was also a statistically significant difference between the years of participation in sportive recreational activities and the recreational flow experience. A moderate positive correlation was found between recreational flow experience, recreational sport well-being, and re-participation intention variables.

Discussion: Family flourishing and positive feelings have a significant relationship on individuals’ intention to re-participate in recreational activities. This suggests that emotional and social well-being may play an important role in the sustainability of participation in recreational sports. As the experience and frequency of participation in recreational sports activities increased, the levels of well-being elevated. Moreover, as the recreational flow experience and recreational well-being level elevated, the intention to re-participate in recreational sport activities increased. For this reason, organizing programs and studies to encourage continuous participation in recreational activities can benefit the well-being level of the society.

Purpose -The study explores the transformative potential of the metaverse in libraries, highlighting opportunities for innovative patron engagement and challenges such as digital equity, privacy concerns, and accessibility barriers. Design/methodology/approach -This study employed an interpretive content/document analysis approach, drawing insights from diverse literature sources including Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. Findings -The findings indicate that through the integration of immersive technologies like virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), libraries can enrich their offerings and reach a broader audience. However, addressing challenges in libraries requires proactive measures, including bridging the digital divide and implementing inclusive design practices. Furthermore, cultivating metaliteracy skills among librarians and information users is essential to navigating the complexities of the metaverse responsibly. Originality/value -The study's originality lies in its comprehensive exploration of the implications of the metaverse for libraries and information users. Thus, exploring the nexus of immersive technologies, digital equity, and the evolving role of libraries, the research provides a nuanced understanding of the challenges and opportunities presented by the metaverse. The value outlines the key strategies for libraries to thrive in the metaverse by emphasizing the integration of immersive technologies, enhancing digital literacy, fostering collaborative partnerships, prioritizing accessible design, investing in research and innovation, and advocating for inclusive policies, the study equips libraries with a roadmap to fulfill their mission of providing equitable access to information and fostering lifelong learning in the digital age. (2) Which factors (i.e., vacation anticipation, pre-vacation workload, and homeload) are associated with health and well-being changes before vacation? (3) Are associations between pre-vacation workand home-load and health and well-being changes before vacation different for men and women? In a longitudinal study, 96 Dutch workers reported their health and well-being in the two weeks prior to their winter sports vacation. Health and well-being decreased significantly from two weeks to one week prior to vacation. Anticipation did not affect health and well-being, whereas pre-vacation workload lowered health and well-being. Pre-vacation homeload was also associated with a decline in pre-vacation health and well-being but only for women.

Näitä tapausesimerkkejä peilataan Pohjanmaalle ja hahmotellaan, millainen voisi olla pohjalainen ruoka-alan kehittämisalusta ja sen toimintamalli. Dada la relevancia de la lectura, se presenta un estudio sobre las preferencias lectoras entre el alumnado de 6º curso de Educación Primaria. El objetivo es determinar las actitudes hacia la lectura y las preferencias lectoras de este alumnado a partir de dos variables: sexo y titularidad del centro educativo. Se empleó un cuestionario con el que se evaluaron las actitudes hacia la lectura y las preferencias en la elección de géneros literarios y temáticas, así como el uso de nuevos soportes y la lengua frecuente de lectura. La muestra estuvo compuesta por 416 alumnos y alumnas de 6º curso de 9 centros educativos. Los resultados, que fueron analizados mediante un método no experimental descriptivo, indican que las niñas evidencian actitudes más favorables hacia la lectura recreativa, con intereses más diversos en cuanto al género, la temática y la lengua. Asimismo, los centros educativos públicos manifiestan resultados más alentadores en el conjunto de las dimensiones abordadas. Esta investigación pone de relieve la necesidad de revisar las prácticas lectoras existentes e implementar nuevas propuestas desde el paradigma de la educación literaria, lo que redundará en el desarrollo de la competencia lectora y de otros aprendizajes.

Studies on immigrants' recreational use of greenspace have tended to focus on ethnic groups as homogeneous entities. In a qualitative study based on group interviews, this article focuses on the cultural diversity among and within ethnic groups. We used an identity perspective to study outdoor recreation of young Dutch adults with Chinese, Turkish, or nonimmigrant backgrounds. Results show that primarily personal identities, age, and ethnicity inform recreational behavior. The multiplicity of peoples' identities results in more heterogeneity between and within ethnic groups, as well as more homogeneity between immigrants and nonimmigrants, than commonly described. When immigrants are considered as a homogeneous group that underparticipates in outdoor recreation, individual immigrants who frequently participate in outdoor recreation are overlooked. Furthermore, we show that acculturation does not progress at the same rate among all ethnic groups, and that ethnic identity may be sustained among second and subsequent generations through certain recreational activities.

Few empirical studies have examined the relationships between specialization level, gender, motivations, and preferred environmental setting. The purpose of our study was to examine the influence of specialization and gender on motivations and preferences for site attributes among canoeists. Subjects consisted of 663 canoeists from 11 paddling organizations. Results showed that high specialists differed from low specialists in the rated importance of selected motivations and preferences for site attributes. Findings also indicated that male paddlers were more specialized than females. In addition, gender was related to the motivations and the site attributes. Females placed more emphasis on the motivations of experiencing nature, relaxation, social contact, and the site attributes of social-skill and wilderness. Males placed more importance on new sites.

Anhedonia is a key clinical feature of major depressive disorder (MDD) and affects one's capacity to experience pleasure. This study examined the extent to which anhedonia disrupts the use and the effect of leisure coping strategies. A cross-sectional online survey design was used to recruit individuals with MDD (n = 155). Structural equation modeling was performed to test the models of relationships among perceived stress, anhedonia, leisure coping strategies, and depressive symptoms. The results show that a high level of anhedonia was associated with lower utilization and effects of leisure as a coping strategy (β = -.484, p < .01). However, after accounting for the effect of anhedonia, leisure coping strategies still had a significant negative association with depressive symptoms (β = -.179, p < .05). The results highlighted the significant negative impact of anhedonia on leisure coping strategies and supported its effectiveness in the presence of anhedonia. Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a prevalent, pervasive, and chronic disorder. More than 350 million people worldwide live with MDD (World Health Organization, 2015), and approximately 6.7% of adults in the United States experienced MDD in the previous year (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 2014). The main features of MDD are persistent low mood, trouble sleeping, fatigue, and loss of interest in things that can cause dysfunction in one's social roles. It is concerning that MDD may occur in debilitating waves, returning repeatedly, with approximately 85% of adults with MDD reporting at least one recurrent major depressive episode after recovery . Once an individual is diagnosed with MDD, maintaining long-term wellness is challenging because of the high likelihood of the recurrence of depressive symptoms and depressive disorders . In this article I explore how moral principles are invoked to justify urban development. My case study is the plan to make Hämeenkatu, the main street in Tampere, Finland, into a car-free zone. My data consists of five discussion threads in a website of a regional newspaper based in Tampere. Both the advocates and the opponents of a car-free Hämeenkatu do not argue for their self-interest but defend the common good. Their arguments can be categorized using the worlds of justification including the industrial world, the domestic world, the ecological world, the world of renown, the market world and the civic world. I discover three dichotomies, which correspond to the worlds of justification: a controlled-spontaneous city (industry-inspiration), an inward-outward city (domestic-renown/ecology) and a city for public participation/private competition (civic-market). According to my findings, the advocates of a car-free zone argue for a spontaneous city space, whereas the opponents long for an efficient city. While the advocates orient themselves outward and want Finland to become more European, the opponents appreciate the internal order and the tradition of the city. The advocates argue relatively more often on keeping business alive, whereas the opponents argue for everyone's equal access to the city.

Este artículo de 2019, escrito por Aingeru Berguices Jausoro (Bilbo, 1957-Galdakao, 2022) y publicado en la Revista K Aldizkaria de Barakaldo, es el resultado de una entrevista que me realizaron dos estudiosos de la cultura vasca del actual panorama: el mismo Aingeru y Emilio Xabier Dueñas, con el añadido de que el primero era, además de doctor en Historia por la UPV, músico y  musicólogo. Este estudio está basado en el Cancionero publicado por el Ayuntamiento de Barakaldo en el año 2018, del cual se editaron varios miles de ejemplares y que es una edición corregida y aumentada, con profusión de fotos del Barakaldo antiguo, con los consejos del comité de la Revista K Aldizkaria, sobre todo de los coordinadores; Javier Barrio y Aloña Intxaurrandieta, con los que conseguí dar una mejor estructuración al mismo. Bu araştırmada amaç, beden eğitimi ve spor öğretmenlerinin iş doyumu ve iş yaşam kaliteleri arasındaki ilişkisinin incelenmesidir. Yöntem: Araştırmanın örneklem grubunu İstanbul Avcılar'da görev yapan beden eğitimi ve spor öğretmenleri oluşturmaktadır. Çalışmada Weiss vd. (1967) tarafından geliştirilen ve Baycan (1985) tarafından Türkçeye uyarlanan "Minnesota İş Doyumu Ölçeği" ve Van Laar ve ark. (2007) tarafından geliştirilen ve Akar ve Üstüner (2017) tarafından Türkçeye uyarlanan "İş Yaşam Kalitesi Ölçeği" veri toplama aracı olarak kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizinde ise normallik testlerinden bağımsız örneklem t-testi ve One-Way ANOVA testleri kullanılırken, alt boyutlar arasında ilişkiyi belirlemek için pearson korelasyon testi yapılmıştır. Bulgular: Çalışmaya katılan bireylerin cinsiyete göre iş yaşam kaliteleri arasında anlamlı farklılık tespit edilmiştir. Ancak yaş, medeni durum, öğrenim durumu ve mesleki kıdemlerine göre anlamlı düzeyde farklılık görülmemiştir. İş doyumu ile mesleki kıdem değişkeni arasında anlamlı düzeyde farklılık tespit edilmiştir. Diğer yandan iş doyumu ve iş yaşam kalitesi alt boyutları arasında pozitif yönde anlamlı ve olumlu ilişki ortaya çıkmıştır. Sonuç: Beden eğitimi ve spor öğretmenlerinin demografik değişkenlere göre iş doyumu ve iş yaşam kaliteleri değişiklik göstermektedir. Por conta disso, haverá poucas citações no texto, pois este reflete muito mais minhas "crenças", deixando claro que não se tratam estas de "profissão de fé", mas de um saber construído e refletido ao longo de alguns anos de trabalho, seja como Professor de Educação Física na Rede Pública Municipal de Rio Claro (interior de São Paulo), no âmbito da Educação Infantil, como Coordenador Pedagógico de Ensino Fundamental, em uma escola particular de São Paulo (capital) ou, como nos últimos anos, como Professor de Ensino Superior (graduação-Educação Física-e pós-graduação-Educação) da Universidade Federal de São Carlos, atuando com ensino, pesquisa e extensão, nas temáticas "Estudos Socioculturais do Lazer e do Esporte", "Ensino e Aprendizagem em Educação Física" e "Práticas Sociais e Processos Educativos". Inicio, assim, com uma pequena análise etimológica das expressões recreação e escola, bem como educação, inerente ao ambiente escolar (e não só!). Observo antes, que uso neste manuscrito a expressão recreação, por esta não estar necessariamente presa a um tempo definido, como muitas vezes é entendido o lazer. A palavra recreação é proveniente do latim recreãtiõ-õnis, originada no radical recreãre (recrear), mais o sufixo criaçom (criação), significando, aquilo que causa prazer, alegria, recreio, diversão e satisfação, envolvendo o querer da pessoa, sua espontaneidade. A expressão recreãtiõ-õnis também origina a palavra recriação, ou seja, ato ou efeito de recriar. Já a palavra escola tem sua origem do latim shola, derivado do grego sholé, com o significado de lugar no qual se desenvolve educação, do latim educare, possuindo o sentido de cultivar, extrair de dentro de si mesmo. Considero, portanto, a escola como um lugar privilegiado para se promover educação, o extrair-se de si mesmo, o cultivo do ser, a criação e a recriação, com espontaneidade, alegria e prazer, ainda que, muitas vezes, estes elementos estejam embotados e sejam desvalorizados nas instituições escolares. Assim, a recreação na escola pode estar difusa em todo o ambiente e percorrendo as diversas disciplinas ou dimensões do saber.
