Un’introduzione alla nascita e allo sviluppo dell’Atlante Etnolinguistico Italo-Svizzero di Jaberg e Jud, basato sull'applicazione dei criteri della geografia linguistica. Un'illustrazione del ruolo che per l’opera ebbe Gerhard Rohlfs nelle esplorazioni effettuate nel sud Italia e soprattutto  il ruolo da egli svolto come protagonista nelle inchieste siciliane. I verbali delle interviste condotte nei punti d'inchiesta nell’isola dallo scienziato berlinese, in copia originale olografica in tedesco e nella versione tradotta in lingua italiana. I tratti distintivi rilevati nei diciotto punti AIS delle nove provincie siciliane interessate (Mascalucia, San Fratello, Fantina-Fondachelli, Mistretta, Palermo, Baucina, Vita, San Biagio Platani, Villalba, Calascibetta, Aidone, Giarratana, San Michele di Ganzaria, Catenanuova, Sperlinga, Mandanici, Bronte, Naro), i tratti distintivi delle rispettive parlate, soprattutto viste sotto l'aspetto fonetico. Il libro è una fonte importante e in buona misura inedita rispetto ad una significativa e rappresentativa matrice territoriale delle varietà dialettali presenti nell'isola. Una base conoscitiva importante per chi si vuole occupare di lingua  siciliana. A corredo: note, appunti, curiosità e spunti di analisi sull’opera, sui materiali e sui protagonisti coinvolti. Omaggio a Gerhard Rohlfs per il centenario della sua venuta in Sicilia per le esplorazioni dell'Atlante linguistico ed etnografico dell'Italia e della Svizzera meridionale (AIS) (Der Sprach und Sachatlas Italiens und der Sued-Schweiz), su incarico degli ideatori del progetto, i professori svizzeri, Karl Jaberg e Jacob Jud.
Il lavoro è stato condotto dall'autore, ricercatore indipendente, su materiale inedito ottenuto su licenza per il progetto denominato "Lungo la Strada di Gerhard Rohlfs" dall'archivio AIS dell'Università di Berna, del 3 dicembre 2020, a firma del responsabile dr. Arturo Ruiz,  col patrocinio ideale, motivazionale  e concreto del figlio dell'illustre linguista tedesco, il musicologo Dr. Eckart Rohlfs.

In December , the Grand Chamber of the Court of Justice delivered a judgement in European Commission v. Hungary case which is signi cant in many respects. e CJEU has con rmed that Hungary had failed to ful l its obligations in providing migrants with international protection and returning illegally staying third-country nationals. e judgement is also of crucial importance in view of the Common European Asylum System and New Pact on Migration and Asylum. e comment aims at presenting possible consequences of the judgement for both the Hungarian administration and, most importantly, future instruments in the area of asylum in the EU.

High numbers of people still go missing or die during migration journeys. In light of this, the essay discusses how Objective 8 of the 2018 Global Compact for Migration dealing with missing and dead migrants may contribute to the protection of migrants and the establishment of more adequate search and rescue operations. The work demonstrates how Objective 8, despite being carefully drafted to uphold states' prerogatives and sovereignty, represents an important restatement of the right to life and its application in the context of irregular migration. Ultimately, it is clear that Objective 8 and the Compact represent milestones at the international level, setting minimum standards able to shape respectively, the fate of missing or deceased migrants, their families and international migration law.

The aim of this essay is to focus on a present and important problem, i.e., the rejecting of people coming from Libya together with the closing of harbours for migrants and the criminalisation and obstruction towards the NGOs that are engaged in saving human beings in the Mediterranean Sea. The text argues how such attitudes are crimes against humanity, comparable to the infringement of prohibition of torture and of inhuman or degrading treatments. Responsibility certainly lies with who personally practise torture, but the European States governments and the European Union Institutions cannot actually disclaim liability. Keywords Torture. Questo numero di «Zapruder» intende analizzare criticamente i
nodi costitutivi del processo di integrazione europea, indagato nelle
sue declinazioni politico-istituzionali, economico-sociali e filosoficointellettuali.
Finis Europae mira dunque a sviluppare una narrazione
alternativa della storia della “costruzione europea”, insistendo su un
arco cronologico che consenta di individuare i trend di lungo periodo
che hanno informato la realizzazione del progetto comunitario.
Capitalismo, migrazioni, lavoro, neosovranismi, scuola e confini
sono alcuni dei temi analizzati all’interno di questo numero, nel
tentativo di esplorare le contraddizioni del processo di formazione

This paper offers a conceptual analysis of the negotiation of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between Canada and the European Union. It argues that traditional accounts of the structure of trade negotiations must be tailored for their novel nature, especially their wider scope on various regulatory issues and the relative economic weight symmetry of trading partners. To build our argument, we revisit traditional structural factors such as economic interdependence, non-agreement alternatives (NAA), institutional constraints, outcome valuations, and domestic support. We conclude that current and future bilateral trade negotiations will likely last longer, deadlocks will likely become more frequent, and that variations in scope will likely increase.

„Manifestation of the Idea of European Unity – Living Magna Charta of Peace“: The Political Dimension of the PRESSA Cologne 1928 and its Reception in the Contemporary German and International Press“

The PRESSA was the most ambitious and comprehensive exhibition ever held to present modern journalism. The exhibition highlighted numerous facets of contemporary journalism, including its historical roots and its cultural, technical, economic and international interdependencies to a professional audience and the general public. In addition, the exhibition also had a political dimension. Its organisers wanted to demonstrate, with the first major international fair held on German soil after the end of the First World War, that the Reich was a great power and willing and capable of contributing actively to international peace and cooperation. The political dimension of the PRESSA found its expression in the speeches held during the opening and closing ceremonies and in the official publications of the exhibition.
As a result of these high expectations the PRESSA became an international media event. The German and foreign press reported extensively the opening and closing ceremonies, and the concept and contents of the exhibition. Furthermore, the press paid particular attention to the political dimension of the PRESSA, and to the crucial role of the Cologne exhibition – and the press generally – in furthering international peace and cooperation. The intensity and euphoria with which this idea was taken up in the press leads to the conclusion that the exhibition with its emphasis on the peace mission of the press had raised an issue that concerned politicians, the public, and the press worldwide.
This essay reconstructs the political dimension of the PRESSA and its reception in the German and international press. The first part analyses the political motivations of the organisers. The second part examines the coverage of the PRESSA in selected German and international newspapers, with particular emphasis on the treatment of the political dimension of the exhibition. The final part is devoted to the question of whether or not the coverage of the PRESSA and its peace mission was too optimistic, in particular in view of the political developments in Germany and Europe after the rise to power of Nazism in 1933.

"Rival Blueprints for Post-War Europe: British Efforts to Counter National Socialist Propaganda on the „New European Order“, 1940-1941"

Following the defeat of France in June 1940, the Nazi regime announced ambitious plans for the economic and political reconstruction of Europe under German control. Simultaneously, Great Britain was attacked as the backward defender of the old order. The Churchill government, concerned about the evident decline of its political influence in Europe, decided to take on the challenge and try to offer a rival, and better, plan for post-war Europe. This article examines the British response to Hitler’s propaganda for a ‘New European Order’ during 1940-41. Particular attention is being paid to the treatment of the topic in the British propaganda campaign towards the German public.
