Sister Nivedita was a famous British-Irish woman who was a staunch follower of Swami Vivekananda's thoughts. She was also a social worker, writer, and teacher. Sister Nivedita was not of Indian origin, but she made significant contributions to women's education in India. Swami Vivekananda introduced Sister Nivedita to Indian philosophy, culture, civilization, and history, after which she dedicated her entire life to the service of humanity. Sister Nivedita had immense affection for India and its people, which is evident from her ideological support in the struggle for India's independence. The influence of Swami Vivekananda's lecture in Chicago religious conference had colored her in Indian hues, and Sister Nivedita later made India her land of work.It was the influence of Indian culture and Indian philosophy that a British Irish woman chose India as her land of work. By living in India and doing work for the people of India, she was able to create her own identity in India and is known as Sister Nivedita. This research paper attempts to explore those important works of her life.

Buku Representasi Perempuan dalam Film: Dari Propaganda Superioritas Hingga Ideologi Pembawahan Studi Kasus “Woman on Top” membahas peran film sebagai media yang tidak hanya memberikan hiburan, tetapi juga membentuk cara pandang masyarakat tentang perempuan dan relasi gender. Film memiliki kekuatan besar dalam mencerminkan realitas sosial sekaligus membentuk opini publik, sehingga apa yang ditampilkan di layar sering kali memengaruhi pola pikir, perilaku, dan nilai-nilai yang hidup dalam masyarakat.

Di sisi lain, mereka juga sering direduksi menjadi objek seksual, simbol kelemahan, atau pihak yang bergantung pada kekuatan eksternal.

Pertarungan dua ideologi antara kebebasan dan subordinasi menjadi tema sentral dalam buku ini. Penulis menunjukkan bagaimana film bisa menjadi ruang perlawanan yang menantang norma dan stereotip yang membatasi perempuan. The suffering of African Americans throughout their history occupied the largest
share of Yaa Gyasi’s writings. This paper aims to analyze the concept of slavery in Yaa
Gyasi’s novel, Homegoing (2016). In her novel, Gyasi demonstrates how slavery is
horribly affected the dark-skinned people’s lives by narrating the events that the
characters experienced from one generation to the next. This paper focus on the women
sexual exploitation, dehumanization, and helplessness of those enslaved people and how
slavery destroyed coloured people physically and psychologically. This paper reveals
how slavery contributed in the reshaping the African’s identities, names, language as well
as their fate. The current study demonstrates that slavery left a deep wound within
African’s souls. Thus, even after the slavery was ended, they still live in a harsh trauma,
fear and lost. Eventually, this study successfully displays the African Americans’
dilemma and significantly reveals the real hardships of slavery in the history of the black
people.

Throughout Western history, feminisms have acted as transformative and “peaceful” forces, challenging power structures and proposing alternative models based on equity, coexistence, and the sustainability of relationships. This contribution situates itself within this horizon, offering a reworking of the theories of Judith Butler and Alessandra Chiricosta – in dialogue with Derrida – aimed at a social and organisational objective: to promote equitable and innovative practices through the deconstruction of the hegemonic male gaze. The aim is to strengthen social and workplace participation and equality for all individuals, through performative strategies capable of dismantling the phallogocentric paradigm that has historically linked “force” with domination and male visibility. In this context, Butler’s concept of nonviolence as performative action and Chiricosta’s feminist combative self-awareness emerge as transformative bodily practices, capable of generating new meanings, subverting hierarchies, and fostering sustainable relationships. The body, from being an object of representation, becomes an active subject of resistance and narration, opening up spaces for new ways of seeing and coexisting. The objective is to contribute to the construction of contexts – social, political, and professional – in which force is no longer equated with overpowering, but rather with the capacity to transform conflicts into opportunities, promoting equal dignity and recognition

Rates of suicide are far higher for older men than for any other age or gender group. However, we know relatively little about how depressed older men think about suicide. This study addresses this gap by exploring how Latino and white non-Hispanic elderly men discuss why they would or would not contemplate suicide. Men, aged 60 and older, were screened and assessed using standard instruments for clinical depression. Those meeting criteria were invited to participate in a 1.5 to 2.5-hour in-depth interview, in either English or Spanish. Interview data come from 77 men and included men with treated and untreated depression. Men linked depression to losing their economic role, sense of productivity, and familial respect. Their narratives of suicide highlighted central tenets of hegemonic masculinity. Men from both ethnic groups asserted that "being a man" involved strength and independent choice. For some men, suicide exemplifies these ideals; for most men suicide violates them. The majority of men who felt that suicide further violated their already fragile manhood either reclaimed a decisive masculine self or embraced a caring self, especially in relation to children and family. The latter pattern raises a theoretical question regarding the symbolic boundaries of hegemonic masculinity.

In this analysis, we explore how low‐income African American fathers build understandings of successful manhood in the context of community‐based responsible fatherhood programs. Drawing on life history interviews with 75 men in Illinois and Indiana, we explore men's attempts to fulfill normative expectations of fatherhood while living in communities with limited resources. We examine the efforts of community‐based fatherhood programs to shape alternative African American masculinities through facilitation of personal turning points and “breaks with the past,” use of social support and institutional interventions, and the reframing of provision as a priority of successful fatherhood. We refer to Connell's hegemonic masculinity framework (Connell in Masculinities, Polity Press, Cambridge, 1995) and discuss how both men and programs borrow from hegemonic and street masculinities to develop alternative approaches to paternal involvement for marginalized men.

This paper approaches queer digital culture through social reproduction. It argues that queer people's communicative acts on digital platforms are socially reproductive, yet the "hidden abode" subsumed by contemporary capitalist expansions. However, this subsumption creates remaindering opportunities for alternative relationality. Using four Chinese gay couples' vlogging on Bilibili, I analyze vlogs and danmu textsto show, first performances of social reproduction are raw materials for communicative production. Second, communicative acts that reproduce the social are captured and reorganized by the platforms' interaction protocols. I highlight how danmu can be understood as a communicative means of reproducing a virtual reparativity.

Selten lag der Forschungsgegenstand in dieser Zeit so klar in seiner gesellschaftlichen Relevanz vor Augen wie gegenwärtig.
Wir wollen das Jubiläum zum Anlass nehmen, um die Verhandlung von Männlichkeiten in der Forschung und in der öffentlichen Wahrnehmung zu diskutieren. Es sind Beiträge aus allen Feldern und Disziplinen erwünscht, die Trends, Phänomene, Diagnosen und wissenschaftliche Beobachtungen zu aktuellen Männlichkeiten und Männlichkeitsdiskursen vornehmen und/oder auch Ausblicke zur Zukunft der Männer und Männlichkeiten wagen.

When I first commenced university studies in the mid-1970s, research on masculinity was still very undeveloped. Yet that time witnessed a flourish of social science theory and scholarship on social justice, class, gender, race, and culture. Similarly, the emergence of new forms of legal activism and critical criminology around the globe threw doubt on the positive imagery and equality and fairness claims made by criminal justice systems in liberal nations. Strands of neo-Marxism, post-structuralism, feminism, and new waves of critical studies of sexuality and race, set the tone for a rapid transformation. In the 1970s, researchers in sociology were immersed in studies of social class, state forms and capitalism, as well as cultural studies and gender studies, as newly expanding fields of interest. The interest in these topics and their approaches all reflected the 1970s/1980s influence of "new" social movements-second wave feminism, early Gay Liberation, anti-authoritarian Leftism, and the mobilisation of activists in support of Black and Indigenous rights.

In line with Norbert Elias' process sociology, the chapter will concentrate on long-term changes of gendered dispositional figurations in Europe. By overthrowing the power of feudal noblemen, the burgerlijk (bourgeois) of the Dutch Golden Age incorporates certain aristocratic dispositions-first of all the inclination for ostentatious consumption and the awareness of symbolic distinctions. The members of this social class possess dispositional bonds in the most diverse social contexts and coordinate their activities in far broader perspectives than any other group ever before in the Western world. Their case proves that the lengthening of the chains of interdependencies, including the pacification and psychologisation of behaviour, conditions the emergence of plural masculine dispositions.

Cinema is one of the most revered media art form that has a universal appeal. Cinema has been a point of debate and discussion for decades. The constant wriggling of cinema related contentions has led to some astonishing discoveries making it a den of potentially more unexplored areas of academic interest. With this in consideration, this study aims to examine and compare the portrayal of male and female characters in selected Hindi films directed by female and male directors, with a particular focus on the storytelling art within the context of the feminist perspective. The films chosen for analysis are "Lipstick under my Burkha", "A death in the gunj" and "Dhobi Ghat" by female directors and "Pink", "Queen" and "Padman" by male directors. This research explores the aspirations, characterizations and roles of male and female characters in the aforesaid films from both male and female perspectives through a rigorous qualitative content analysis. Additionally, the study seeks to investigate the presence of any stereotypes associated with the characters and the degree of its representation. By analyzing the films' narratives, character development and the interplay between male and female characters, this research further aims to shed light on the portrayal of gender dynamics in storytelling and its potential influence on the way gender is being portrayed. The findings of this study are not significant for cinephiles alone. Gender psychology aspirants would also find something thought-provoking to ponder upon.

Mainstream criminology has stressed the importance of flawed notions of personal honour among disadvantaged and minority group men in interactive social disputes that escalate into serious violence. Recent gender studies and critical criminology have been concerned with wider structures of power and the links between hegemonic masculinity and violence directed against women or occurring between men. Our focus group study of views about violence among a mixed cohort of young men suggests the relevance of both these approaches as causal explanations. Nevertheless, violence was also narrated and understood through the sharp moral distinctions between illegitimate and wrongful enactments, and idealised accounts of violent events as measured, fair and just. Anti-violence initiatives need to anticipate the shifting ways by which young men distance themselves and their own violence from negative meanings, along with a continuing belief in a category of male violence that they deem legitimate, admirable, or even heroic.

Peer victimization is a pervasive problem among children and associated with numerous psychological and behavioural problems for all participants. Research is needed to understand the complex relations between factors that increase risk of victimization and its consequences. We used autoregressive cross-lagged modelling with self-report data to examine the longitudinal reciprocal effects of victimization by friends with problem behaviour, as well as the mediating effects of school bonding and peer norms. Participants were 316 4th grade students in socioeconomically disadvantaged elementary schools in California, USA, most of whom were Latino/a American (89.9%). Results indicated a causal path from peer victimization by friends in 4th grade to problem behaviour in 5th grade, which was fully mediated by school bonding and peer norms for academics in 5th grade. It is generally believed that masculinity is monolithic, but in reality, there are multiple masculinities. There is no single way of being a man because men’s lives are shaped by numerous factors such as class, caste, race, ethnicity, religion, institutional and political location, geographical and historical contingencies, as well as patterns of consumption. Hence, the scholarly literature on masculinities includes conceptions like hegemonic masculinity, transmasculinity, ecological masculinity and colonial masculinity. The book under discussion, Global Masculinities: Interrogations and Reconstructions, seeks to capture and reflect on this lived plurality by engaging with a wide range of relevant ideas and experiences.

Confronted with the centrality of the body for trans-masculine individuals interviewed in the United Kingdom and Portugal, we explore how bodily-reflexive practices are central for doing masculinity. Following Connell’s early insight that bodies needed to come back to the political and sociological agendas, we propose that bodily-reflexive practice is a concept suited to account for the production of trans-masculinities. Although multiple, the journeys of trans-masculine individuals demonstrate how bodily experiences shape and redefine masculinities in ways that illuminate the nexus between bodies, embodiments, and discursive enactments of masculinity. A general feeling that the feminists are man-hater is so susceptible in the common parlance that people even raise such doubt as to how a man can possibly be a feminist. Mahesh Dattani is a renowned contemporary playwright. He is also considered as the first Indian playwright in English to receive the Sahitya Akademi Award. He represented thematic shift in English drama. He moved drama away from nationalist and mythological themes to the contemporary issues and social realities. His plays represented gender discrimination, homosexuality, child sexual abuse and communal tensions through experimental dramaturgy. His experimentalism not only depends upon subjects of the play but also in form. He uses fractured narrative, chorus and silence as the language of stage. Mahesh Dattani makes visible the lives and voices that were otherwise erased. By analyzing his major works likeTara, Dance Like A Man, Final Solutions, On a Muggy Night in Mumbai,and Seven Steps Around the Fire this paper argues that Dattani is a an experimental Playwright in both content and form. Dattani in his plays criticized patriarchal structures and advocates for gender inclusivity and equality. This study also explores that his experiments were deliberate strategies to engage audience in self reflection.

A man is considered to be a nutritionist and a public relation to the world, which is a result of patriarchal perception of gender roles, within a traditional family perception. Patriarchs who attribute superiority to men and impose certain codes of conduct and responsibility within society and family by giving men, as well as women, a role based on gender division, puts pressure on the male sex by stifling it with a sterile pattern of behavior. The superior position of a man, given to him at birth and developed throughout his life, is socially conditional, and the socially desirable behavior, that insists on “manhood”, condemns any deviation from this norm. This essay analyses Zack Snyder’s 300 (2006) as a cultural text that constructs and critiques hypermasculinity. Drawing on theorists such as Neale (1983), Jeffords (1994), and Connell (1995), the paper explores how the film uses the Spartan male body, stylised violence, and homosocial bonds to project an idealised version of warrior masculinity. The Spartans’ muscular physiques, exaggerated through slow motion and CGI, are framed as symbols of strength and sacrifice, while also reflecting cultural pressures to achieve unattainable standards. Violence is shown not only as a tactic of war but as a performance of identity, echoing Reagan-era action films that equated masculinity with aggression and patriotic duty. At the same time, the exclusion of “non-ideal” bodies and the feminisation of Persian adversaries expose the narrow limits of hegemonic masculinity. The essay argues that 300 both glorifies and undermines the ideals it presents, revealing the fragility beneath the fantasy of absolute male control. By pushing the spectacle of masculinity to extremes, the film highlights contemporary anxieties about gender, power, and cultural change.

Representations of masculinities and fatherhood have long been central to advertising narratives. Over time, these depictions have shifted from traditional portrayals to more progressive roles, influenced by growing feminist critiques and their impact on media. In the context of postfeminism, "menvertising" and "dadvertising" have become significant in reinforcing or challenging patriarchal notions of masculinity and fatherhood, with much of the research focusing on Western contexts. This study examines the complex discursive landscape of fatherhood representation in Turkish advertising, arguing that traditional portrayals of fathers as heroic figures with political connotations coexist and compete with more progressive models of fatherhood, such as feminist parenting. A feminist critical discourse analysis of 2024 Father's Day advertisements online reveals that Turkish fatherhood occupies a contested third space, navigating between neoconservative, politically influenced national values and emerging progressive ideals of care, feminist parenting, and involved fatherhood. Crucially, these advertisements predominantly lack diverse and intersectional representations.

The rise of digital connectivity has created new spaces for innovation, expression, and enterprise, but it has also fueled unconventional and controversial economic activities. This study explores how social media platforms contribute to the proliferation of “porntrapreneurship” among university undergraduates, a phenomenon where students capitalize on sexually explicit content as a means of financial survival, status display, or personal branding. Anchored in a socio-cultural and economic lens, the research highlights the interplay between online visibility, peer influence, and the monetization of intimacy. Findings reveal that while social media serves as a catalyst for entrepreneurial creativity, it simultaneously normalizes risky behaviors, blurs the line between empowerment and exploitation, and raises ethical concerns about youth development in higher institutions. The paper concludes by reflecting on the implications for education policy, digital regulation, and youth guidance in an era where virtual spaces continue to redefine morality and livelihood.

Bu çerçevede, kamu yönetimi disiplini, tarihsel dönüşümleri devlette ve idari aygıtta ortaya çıkan değişiklikler bağlamında analiz etmektedir. Bu değişiklikler, genellikle iki gösterge aracılığıyla incelenmektedir: Mevzuat ile Kamu Örgütlenmesinin Yapısı ve İşleyişi. Bu analiz tarzı, toplumsal ilişkileri, bireysel tutum ve davranışları ve psişik durumları genellikle yadsımaktadır. Oysa gündelik yaşamın deneyimlenmesinde toplumsal ilişkiler, bireyler arası ilişkiler, birey ve toplum arasındaki ilişkiler ve psişik durumlar, mevzuatta yapılan değişikliklerden daha etkileyici ve birincildir. Bu çerçevede çalışmanın amacı, devlette ve idari aygıtta meydana gelen dönüşümleri, toplumsal ve bireysel ilişkiler ile bireylerin gündelik yaşam deneyimlerine eşlik eden psişik durumlarla bağlantılı bir şekilde analiz etmektir. Bu karşılıklı ve bağlantılı analiz tarzını, yönetim bilimleri ve kamu yönetimi disiplinine psiko-sosyolojik bir yaklaşım olarak klinik sosyoloji gerçekleştirmektedir. Bu çerçevede, çalışma iki ana bölümden oluşmaktadır. Birinci bölüm, klinik sosyolojinin tanımı, tarihsel kökleri ve gelişme evrelerini açıklamaktadır. İkinci bölüm ise 1980 sonrası neoliberalizm ve yeni kamu işletmeciliği ideolojilerini, klinik sosyoloji yaklaşımı aracılığıyla incelemektedir.

The rise of social media has not only transformed patterns of communication but also introduced new economic ventures, one of which is the emergence of porntrapreneruship—a hybrid of pornography and entrepreneurial practices. This study investigates the proliferation of porntraprener activity among undergraduates of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), with a focus on the influence of digital platforms in enabling, normalizing, and monetizing explicit content creation. By employing a mixed-method approach involving surveys, focus group discussions, and content analysis, the research explores the motivations, socio-economic drivers, and perceived rewards that push students toward this controversial form of online entrepreneurship. Findings reveal that while financial pressures and the lure of online visibility serve as major catalysts, peer influence, digital anonymity, and the promise of rapid income sustain the practice. The study further underscores the ethical, psychological, and academic implications, calling for policy interventions, awareness campaigns, and digital literacy initiatives to guide undergraduates toward healthier, sustainable avenues of self-reliance.

This article examines how ideals of the male body are reshaped in online spaces linked to the manosphere, particularly incel and lookism forums. It explores looksmaxxing-the pursuit of physical improvement through body-sculpting practices such as fitness, grooming, and plastic surgery-as a perceived path to romantic success and social mobility, framed as 'ascension'. Within these spaces, body modification is guided by peer evaluations, aggressive feedback, and shared knowledge, forming what the study terms bro-pedagogy: a masculine and brutal style of support and instruction. Despite frequent use of medical terminology, users often reject mainstream science, relying instead on peer-driven advice that blends anecdote, pseudo-science, and ideological claims. The article argues that these practices politicise the male body, transforming physical appearance into a site of struggle over identity, misandry and perceived social exclusion.

In this paper, we revisit the impact of gender and social class on language (e.g., Eckert 1989, 2000, Labov 1990, Milroy et al. 1994, Dubois and Horvath 1999) through an investigation of /s/ in southeast England. Previous work on /s/ variation in English has suggested that, for a number of varieties, backer, more [ʃ] like variants are associated with males while more fronted realizations are associated with women, and, in some varieties, also gay men (e.g., Munson et al. 2006). Subsequent work in the UK has also indicated that for some speakers /s/ may also be associated with class (Stuart-Smith 2007). Our study contributes to this area through examining the possible interaction of class and gender with regards to /s/ realization. Our data come from two British television programs: Made in Chelsea and The Only Way is Essex. Bu tez çalışması, günümüz Türkiye Yahudi toplumunda erkekliğin hangi toplumsal ve bedensel duraklar aracılığıyla inşa edildiğini incelemektedir. Türkiye'de erkeklik çalışmalarının çoğunlukla egemen (Müslüman) nüfusun erkeklik deneyimlerine odaklandığı literatürde; deneyimleri daha önce konu edinilmemiş bir azınlık topluluğu olan Türkiye Yahudi toplumu üzerine yapılan bu çalışma, literatürdeki bu eksikliği doldurma gayesi içindedir ve literatüre Türkiye'de görünürlüğü az olan Yahudi erkeklik deneyimlerini dahil etmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Çalışma, "hegemonik erkeklik" kuramı çerçevesinde Yahudi toplumundaki makbul erkeklik formunu, bu forma erişimi sağlayan norm ve ritüelleri, dışlayıcı mekanizmaları ve alternatif erkeklikleri tartışmaya açar. Pınar Selek'in Türkiye'de egemen erkekliğe giden yolun durakları olarak tariflediği sünnet, askerlik, iş bulma ve evlilik izleği; bu araştırmada Türkiye Yahudi toplumundaki karşılıkları üzerinden yeniden sorgulanmıştır. Araştırma, erkekliğin Yahudi toplumunda kendine özgü ritüeller, kurallar ve tarihsel bağlamlar içinde nasıl biçimlendiğini gözler önüne sererken, erkekliğin 'doğallaştırılmış' yapısını da sorgulayacaktır. Feminist yöntemle yürütülen bu nitel araştırma, yapılandırılmamış tematik derinlemesine görüşmelerle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmada görüşmeler araştırmacı ve katılımcı arasında karşılıklı etkileşime dayalı bir şekilde yürütülmüştür. Örneklem, İstanbul'da yaşayan, farklı yaş ve sosyal sınıflardan Yahudilerle sınırlıdır. Türkiye'de Yahudi toplumundaki erkeklik deneyimleri üzerine yapılan saha temelli çalışmaların yok denecek kadar az olması, bu çalışmayı hem kuramsal hem de metodolojik olarak özgün kılmaktadır.

This thesis explores how masculinity is constructed in contemporary Turkey's Jewish community through various social and embodied stages. In a scholarly landscape where masculinity studies in Turkey primarily focus on the experiences of the dominant (Muslim) male population, this research aims to address this gap by incorporating the understudied experiences of Jewish men—members of a minority group—into the literature. Within the framework of the "hegemonic masculinity" theory, the study examines the dominant form of masculinity in the Jewish community, the norms and rituals that enable access to this form, the exclusionary mechanisms at play, and alternative masculinities. The sequence defined by Pınar Selek as the path to dominant masculinity in Turkey—circumcision, military service, employment, and marriage—is re-evaluated in light of its specific manifestations within the Turkish Jewish community. While revealing how Jewish masculinity is shaped by its unique rituals, rules, and historical context, the study also questions the 'naturalized' character of masculinity. This qualitative research employs a feminist methodology and was conducted through unstructured, thematic in-depth interviews. The interviews were shaped by mutual interaction between the researcher and participants, in accordance with feminist principles. The sample consists of Jewish individuals from various age groups and socio-economic backgrounds living in Istanbul. The scarcity of field-based studies on Jewish masculinity in Turkey renders this research both theoretically and methodologically original.

This paper critically examines the phenomenon of "gender wars" as a defining feature of contemporary social discourse. The term captures the contentious debates over gender roles, rights, and representation, which have intensified in the digital age through the amplification and distortion of narratives on social media platforms. While gender conflicts are not new, their current manifestations are deeply shaped by historical legacies of patriarchy and resistance, as well as the evolving demands of feminist and intersectional movements (Hooks 2000; Crenshaw 1991). Drawing on cultural and communication theories, the paper situates gender wars within broader struggles over identity, power, and justice. It explores how digital spaces simultaneously serve as arenas for feminist activism and as breeding grounds for anti-feminist backlash, highlighting the role of the "manosphere" and online counter-movements (Banet-Weiser 2018; Ging 2019). The paper also interrogates the influence of media and popular culture in reinforcing gender stereotypes while offering new models of empowered femininities and masculinities. By foregrounding intersectionality. Ultimately, the study argues that framing gender issues as adversarial "wars" obscures possibilities for dialogue and collaboration. It proposes instead an inclusive and empathetic approach to gender relations grounded in education, mutual respect and social justice as a pathway toward transforming conflict into constructive engagement.

Esta metodología busca abrir un espacio seguro para que hombres jóvenes comprendan qué es la masculinidad hegemónica, cómo se origina y por qué es importante desaprenderla para poder ejercer una masculinidad transformadora de género. Para esto, se invita a los participantes a reflexionar sobre la construcción de su propia identidad como hombres; aprender sobre conceptos como violencias basadas en género, patriarcado, identidad de género, orientación sexual; aprender nuevas formas de relacionarse con sus emociones y realizar actividades que les permitan explorar diferentes formas de desafiar las normas de género y sobre todo las VBG.

O objetivo do estudo é compreender, sob perspectiva discente, a interferência do marcador gênero nas relações dos/as estudantes de Ensino Médio com a Educação Física (EF). Trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva com 94 alunos e 88 alunas de 8 escolas estaduais de São Paulo (Brasil), que levantou informações de gosto, importância e participação na disciplina EF, a partir de aplicação de questionário estruturado. Os resultados indicam que meninos atribuem maior importância, gostam e participam mais do que as meninas. Contudo, não é possível afirmar que meninas desgostam, não participam e não atribuem importância. Em cotejo com a literatura, a participação das alunas na EF, além do fator gosto, está concatenada a obrigação ou via “obediência-subversiva” no ambiente ambíguo escolar, de discursos explícitos de igualdade de condições e de práticas implícitas segregacionistas de gênero; por sua vez, a referida ambiência implícita favorece a “colonização” de meninos nas aulas de EF. Men's health remain unclear term for majority of general population as well as physician worlwide. Nowadays there is an increase interest in addressing men's requirement in health care as a separate branch. When discussing about men's health, it is fair to say that even a man himself does not know much about men's health. Most of them think that men's health is just a discussion on sex. This thought is not entirely right. The scope of men's health is actually larger than the male sex organ itself. To define men's health, we have to look at man holistically.

Bobby Smith (1923-2008) was a Tampa Bay butch lesbian, photographer, and early LGBTQ Florida figure, together with his partner of nearly fifty years, Katherine “Kay” Thompson (1923-2009). Coming of age as the Second World War provided women and girls with a certain level of independence, Smith easily found comfort presenting in a masculine, butch fashion outside of certain spheres such as school, and quickly dropped any remaining femininity once he left it. Throughout his life, in the workplace, at social gatherings, and at home, he maintained a masculine presentation for his entire life. As a photographer, Smith documented numerous photographs of Tampa’s early LGBTQ community from as far back as 1950s, revealing scenes of a sizable yet isolated community hidden away in the “closet,” a lively bar scene, intimate parties in personal homes, and many drag queens and gender performers.That community came under threat in the 1960s, as conservative forces took advantage of southern anxiety and paranoia about the Civil Rights movement to fund the Florida Legislative Investigation Committee efforts to “purge” Florida schools and universities of homosexuals. In the 1970s, Bobby and Kay were among the early members of Tampa Bay’s branch of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches, a church dedicated to the acceptance of LGBTQ people, and aided in its establishment and growth. By examining Bobby Smith’s photographs, interviews done over the course of his life, and research into Florida’s queer history, this thesis endeavors not only to highlight a local historical figure, but the community of which he was a part.

As games are becoming an increasingly popular medium in various demographic and professional strata, scholars are discussing their content and how they shape society. However, despite an increase in gender analysis of video games, little has been written about orienting games towards an elderly audience, or game representations of aging and older persons. Games specifically designed for older persons are focused on improving cognitive functions, starting from the assumption that the elderly are in need of special games in order to repair age-related deficits. This repair-focused design philosophy comes at the expense of pursuing a broader understanding of quality of life and non-programmatic entertainment. Games-for-fun that also explicitly target the elderly as an audience are almost invisible. In this article we turn our attention to a powerful elderly feminine character in an AAA game designed for entertainment without a serious mission, namely Flemeth from Dragon Age. We discuss how the game depicts and models older characters: What repertoire of portraits has Flemeth as an old woman, in the Dragon Age games? How does Flemeth contribute to an enlarged repertoire of portrayals of old women in video games? We conclude that Flemeth's gender and age displays in Dragon Age do not impoverish her portrayal but, on the contrary, turn her into a powerful and complex character, thus offering a model for game design to represent and invite older players.

In the present chapter, I will investigate the type of Old Norse (oral) poetry known as Viking-Age runic poetry. One of the main concerns of this contribution will be how to better explain some of the issues that arise from treating Viking-Age runic poetry as literature by arguing that runic poetry should rather be seen as a form of oral poetry. Three types of oral formulae in runic poetry will be analysed and it will be argued that the formulae create culturally specific, idiomatic meaning centred on various aspects of Old Norse hegemonic masculinity.

ÖZETAntropolojik bir varlık olarak insanın vücuduna oranla en büyük vekarmaşık yapıya sahip beyne sahip olması onun kültür yaratarak diğercanlı türlerinden ayrışmasının temel sebebi olarak görülebilir. Öyle kiavcılık gibi çeşitli ihtiyaçlar sonrasında ortaya çıkan iletişim ihtiyacıinsanın soyut düşünmesine ve kutsal yaratmasına yol açmıştır. Takım-lar dolayımıyla ortaya çıkan totem ve tabu gibi anlam şemaları binler-ce yıldır insanlığın en önemli yaşam motivasyonlarından biri olarakdevam etmektedir. Elbette ki bu önemli güç iktidar sahipleri ve/veyaiktidarı eline geçirmek isteyenler için kadim bir enstrüman olagelmiş-tir. Marksist teoride üst yapı kurumları arasında belki de en etkilisiolan din ve kutsallık kavramları, olayların sebeplerini ve sonuçlarınımeşrulaştırma ya da örtme işleviyle sıklıkla kullanılmıştır. Bu eko-lün önemli temsilcilerinden Gramsci ve Althusser’in bu konuyla ilgilioldukça önemli tespitleri bulunmaktadır. Özellikle Althusser’in DİAkavramsallaştırmasının günümüzde nasıl işlevselleştiği, Türkiye’ninson yıllarda deneyimlediği “15 Temmuz “ ve “6 Şubat “ gibi toplum-sal anomi dönemlerinde net bir şekilde gözlemlenebilir. Bu çalışmabahse konu bu fenomenlerde sela ritüelinin, nasıl sosyo-politik bir ay-gıta “dönüştüğünün” araştırmacının saha çalışmaları ve deneyimleriüzerinden düşünümsel bir şekilde okunmasıdır. Öyle ki sosyo-politikbir çürüme sebebiyle gerçekleşen bahse konu olaylar DİA’lar ve dahaspesifik olarak selalar ile distopik denebilecek düzeyde gizlenebilmiştir.

Türk sosyolojisinin ideoloğu olarak kabul edilen Ziya Gökalp’ın modern Türkiye’nin temellerini oluşturan tarihi, kültürel, sosyal ve siyasi zeminlerin her birinde tartışmasız olarak bir payı vardır. Ziya Gökalp’ın tüm ömrü boyunca harcadığı ilmî mesai çağdaşı olan aydınların yaptığı gibi ülkesini muasır medeniyetler seviyesinin üstüne çıkarmak içindir. Bu amaçla kaleme aldığı 1918 tarihli Yeni Hayat adlı manzumeler kitabı onun yeni hayat tasavvurunun bir ürünüdür. Yeni Hayat din, vatan, millet, ahlak, vazife, lisan, medeniyet, aile gibi hayatın ve özellikle de toplumun tamamını ilgilendiren konuları kapsamaktadır.
Çalışmada Türk milliyetçiliğini odağına alan Yeni Hayat, Janus eğretilemesi bağlamında incelenecektir. Janus, Roma mitolojisine ait bir Tanrı’dır. Kafası birbirine yapışık, bir yüzü genç, öbürü yaşlı iki erkek figürle tasvir edilir. Janus, geçmiş ve geleceği, başlangıçları, geçiş dönemlerini, savaş ve barışı, zamanı sembolize eder. Janus’un en başat özelliği geçmiş ve geleceği görebilmesidir. Tom Nairn 1997 yılında yayımlanan Milliyetçiliğin Yüzleri isimli kitabında milliyetçilik akımını Janus metaforuyla ilişkilendirerek konuya farklı bir bakış açısı getirmiştir. Bu çalışmanın amacı Tom Nairn’dan hareketle Yeni Hayat’ta işlenen Türk milliyetçiliğinin Janus figürüyle olan ilişkisini ortaya koymaktır. Giriş bölümünde Gökalp’ın fikrî dönüşümüne ve milliyetçiliğe olan bakışına kısaca değinildikten sonra Janus’un tarihsel ve mitolojik kökeni üzerinde durulacaktır. Akabinde Janus’un bir ideoloji olan milliyetçilikle olan ilgisine değinilecektir. Çalışmanın gövdesini oluşturan kısımda ise Yeni Hayat’ı Janus yapan hususiyetler şiir parçalarından örnekler vererek açıklanacaktır. Milliyetçiliğin çoğu çeşidinde modernleşme emeli ile geçmiş ve geleneğin bir birlikteliğinin olduğu varsayımından yola çıkıldığında Yeni Hayat’ın her iki yüzyılın tarihi ve sosyal gerçekliğinden kopamayarak eşikte kalmış bir Janus figürünün edebî bir yansıması olduğu sonucuna varmak mümkündür.

This thesis seeks to examine Buster Keatons characters in contrast to his peers, within the context of films in the US in the early 20th Century, specifically of the slapstick genre, based on theories about gender performance and performativity of Judith Butler and Laura Mulvey. In order to transfer and apply these theories to Keatons characters, this thesis makes use of film- and character analysis and thus establishes a reference to the previous theories and the historical context in which the films were made. By means of analyzing two different films, College and The Playhouse, it will be examined how and to which extent Keaton's characters differ from those of his colleagues Chaplin and Lloyd, the similarities they share and how they (did not) fit into the image of masculinity in the USA in the 20th century. In this context topics of industrialization, sports, physicality, and pain in film and especially in Buster Keaton's films are also being negotiated in order to answer the following question: What differentiates Keaton's portrayal of masculinity from that of his contemporaries?

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi hegemoni melalui stereotip ibu dalam iklan digital Gojek “Kenalin Emak Hemat, yang Tau Kalo Pake Gojek Paling Hemat” (2024). Kajian ini menggunakan pemikiran Hegemoni dari Gramsci, didukung konsep-konsep gender dan stereotip gender. Metodologi yang dipilih menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus dan wawancara sebagai teknik pengumpulan data. Informan penelitian ini adalah remaja sebagai penonton iklan. Penelitian ini mengidentifikasi hegemoni patriarki yang bersemayam dari stereotip ibu yang ditampilkan oleh iklan. Stereotip gender melihat ibu dalam iklan mengambil alih fungsi sebagai pemegang keputusan domestik dalam keluarga dan bertanggungjawab atas pengelolaan keuangan keluarga. Hegemoni ini dilanggengkan oleh intelektual tradisional, yaitu ibu dalam keluarga dan tim produksi iklan dan Gojek sebagai perusahaan transportasi online yang menyetujui konsep iklan dan pesan di dalamnya. Hegemoni yang terdapat dari stereotip ibu yang ditampilkan iklan ini adalah Hegemoni Patriarki dan Hegemoni Kapitalisme.

In this chapter, we examine contemporary TV comedies about Norwegian and Japanese manhood in crisis. Norsemen (original title: Vikingane; 2016) is a Norwegian comedy series about a group of vikings living in Southern Norway around the year 790 C.E. The series is a high-quality production with a rich visual texture that parodies the ultra-realistic diegetic worlds of more pretentious blockbusters, such as Vikings (2013-2020) and Game of Thrones (2011Thrones ( -2019)). The characters are clad in period dress, with an emphasis on draping wool and well-worn leather. Norsemen was filmed at a location in a coastal village in Norway, and it was recorded simultaneously in both Norwegian and English-language versions by filming each scene twice. Its humour is delivered in a Monty Pythonesque deadpan style. The series premiered in Norway on the national TV channel NRK and was later aired on Netflix in both Norwegian and English. Samurai Shifters (original title: Hikkoshi Daimyo!, 2019) centres around a community of samurai living in the Himeji domain of southeast Japan in the 1680s, during the Edo period. Released in 2019, the comedy features a star-studded cast, including the musician Gen Hoshino in the leading role. The film follows many of the codes and traditions of the familiar jidaigeki, or period drama, in its foregrounding of honour, sacrifice and sword-fighting. Although the jidaigeki genre influences the overall narrative structure, it is playfully ridiculed in farcical moments of subversion. Norsemen and Samurai Shifters tell stories about the difficulties of living up to contemporary societal expectations concerning manhood. They give these stories a comic twist by transposing the characters back to a distant past -the Viking Age (800-1050) and the Edo period (1603-1867) -eras, which as represented in popular culture, are famously unconcerned about matters like gender equality, being a good partner and the equal sharing of domestic duties. The main characters of these comedies repeatedly find themselves in dilemmas that pit their millennial sensibilities against the values of the past: How can you be an effective leader when you are an introvert, bibliophile, recluse? How can you relocate an entire clan over a

El consentimiento y las denuncias por violencia sexual han emergido en Occidente como ejes fundamentales en la configuración de la experiencia sexual contemporánea. Estas referencias han cobrado protagonismo en las últimas décadas, relegando nociones previas como el pudor o el placer. Sin embargo, lejos de ofrecer marcos nítidos y estables, constituyen un terreno de disputa, frustración y malestar. El consentimiento y la denuncia, aunque indispensables, también resultan problemáticos. Autores/as contemporáneos/as han señalado la existencia de un malestar inquietante derivado de la desarticulación entre las normativas vigentes y las dinámicas del deseo y el erotismo. Este ensayo analítico se propone explorar estos conflictos, tensiones y afectaciones, indagando en sus implicancias para la vivencia de la sexualidad en el presente.

The discussion of "healthy masculinity" has emerged among activists and social workers in response to record levels of violence committed by adolescent males. While some leaders argue that gender-neutrality should be normalized, "healthy masculinity" as defined here reconciles conflicting perspectives, capitalizes on the desire for gender identification and uses it as a means of encouraging pro-social behavior. Based upon a review of literature on sex/gender and health, a behavioral analytic tool was devised which proposed two types of healthy masculinity (i.e., "useful" and "peaceful") and two types of unhealthy masculinity (i.e., "typical" and "harmful"). The model was used to rate male protagonists on 17 popular television programs. The exemplars of healthy masculinity were Troy Landry from The History Channel's Swamp People and "Jay Pritchett" from ABC's Modern Family. Character assessment could be an effective didactic tool which promotes behavioral self-assessment and self-management among youth at high risk of antisocial behavior.

This study explores the prevalence, patterns, and socioeconomic correlates of violence in Western Jamaica, drawing upon secondary data from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ), and the Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN). Focusing on the parishes of St. James, Westmoreland, Hanover, and Trelawny, the research identifies a consistent and disproportionate burden of violence in St. James and Westmoreland. Montego Bay, the regional urban centre, emerges as a hub of gang activity and homicides, primarily attributed to economic inequality, youth unemployment, and criminal tourism spillovers. Utilising descriptive statistics and trend analyses, this paper finds positive correlations between youth joblessness and violent crime, alongside uneven spatial distributions of gang-related activity. During the 15 years, Jamaica recorded fluctuating but persistently high homicide rates, peaking at 1,647 murders in 2017 before declining to 1,141 in 2024.Western Jamaica exhibited a sharp rise in homicides, with figures increasing from 185 in 2010 to a high of 517 in 2018, before moderating to 323 in 2024. Notably, the region's share of national homicides rose from 12.8% in 2010 to a peak of 40.1% in 2018, settling at 28.3% in 2024, despite comprising less than a quarter of the national population. This spatial disproportionality signals the intensification of violence in Western Jamaica and highlights region-specific factors such as youth unemployment, gang activity, urban-tourism pressures, and weakened social control mechanisms. The study's findings underscore the urgent need for geographically targeted crime prevention strategies and integrated socioeconomic interventions to address the root causes of violence in Western Jamaica. The findings emphasise the need for place-specific interventions that combine economic upliftment, community policing, and crime prevention through social development.
