Are we being saturated with "inconsequential memoir"? That question was posed in the latest edition of The Lifted Brow (TLB), a print/online journal of new Australian and international (think US) writing and opinion that's been around long enough -since 2007 -to have received way too many submissions that it didn't want. In its sights are "the unflinching rise of the inconsequential memoir, gonzo arts criticism, selfies at funerals, inane micro stories about the textures of different chair materials when travelling on luxury holidays, etc." Yes, narrative nonfiction from the tweet to the book and everything in between is the genre de jour. These are the decades, it would seem, in which "the real" is more immediately fascinating than anything imagined. Saying a piece of writing is "wholly imagined" by the "writer at her imaginative best" does not have the cachet that saying it is based on real events or real people has. Have we in fact reached the limits of our imaginations, and given up? Now that the notion of "truth" is only ever lower-case, it would seem "true stories" are what we to read, and aim to write. We resist the relativism of there being nothing True. Digitisation has enabled this seismic cultural shift, amplifying the paradox that with the death of Truth, we long for the real. So what is this popular beast? Narrative nonfiction (NNF) is written by an "I" who is present to a greater or lesser degree in the work itself, and ideally engages with the qualities of literariness that we recognise in fiction: attention to craft and voice, to vocabulary and language, to pacing, structure and narrative arc. This paper examines how Italian literature reimagines female leadership by focusing on characters whose authority does not stem from social status or rhetorical skill, but from their ability to endure trauma, offer emotional support, preserve cultural memory, and develop an intellectual identity. The analysis employs a feminist theoretical framework that combines Carol Gilligan's ethics of care, Judith Herman's trauma theory, and Hélène Cixous's concept of écriture féminine, along with models of transformational and servant leadership (Bass & Riggio; Greenleaf). The study highlights five key female figures: Gertrude (the Nun of Monza) and Lucia Mondella from The Betrothed, Ida Ramundo from *History: A Novel*, Marianna Ucrìa from *The Long Life of Marianna Ucrìa*, and the maternal voice in Natalia Ginzburg's *Family Lexicon*. Each protagonist opposes patriarchal norms not through direct rebellion but via alternative forms of resistance: moral resilience, cultural transmission, inner intellectual life, and maternal leadership. By linking literary character analysis with leadership theories and traumainformed critique, this paper advocates for redefining leadership as a relational, ethical, and contextually grounded practice-shaped as much by silence, care, and memory as by vision or speech.

Ovaj tekst analizira roman Genijalna prijateljica Elene Ferante kroz paralelu između napuljskog kvarta i društvenog konteksta Bosne i Hercegovine.
U fokusu je univerzalno iskustvo odrastanja djevojčica i mladih žena u okvirima nasilja, patrijarhalnih očekivanja i socijalnih ograničenja.
Ferantina proza prikazuje djetinjstvo kao bojno polje, u kojem je prisutna borba za obrazovanje, slobodu i pravo na vlastiti glas.
Kroz motiv prijateljstva i ženskog pripovijedanja roman otvara prostor za neposlušnost i prkos kao temelj otpora. Tekst ukazuje na podudarnosti između napuljskog i bosanskohercegovačkog konteksta: oba prostora oblikuju živote kroz hijerarhije moći, šutnju i strah, ali istovremeno pružaju mogućnost emancipacije kroz obrazovanje i solidarnost.
Posebno se ističe simbolika Vezuva kao metafore za potisnutu energiju i žilavost mladosti, koja u konačnici može stvoriti nove oblike slobode.
Time se roman čita i kao univerzalna priča o ženskom iskustvu, ali i kao lokalno prepoznatljiva refleksija bosanskohercegovačke stvarnosti.

This essay makes Louisa May Alcott’s multifaceted work into a pretext for an encounter between feminist and queer theory-oriented literary analysis. Alcott’s work lends itself particularly well to such a compara- tive reading not only because it is typically focused on unconventional young women but because it explicitly makes gender identity, social conformity and rebellion, and female (and to a lesser extent, male) ho- mosociality key issues. While much has been written about the ambiva- lent gendering in Little Women (1868) and the powerful heroines of Al- cott’s more gothic fiction such as “Behind a Mask” (1866), this essay examines not only these well-known texts but also Alcott’s two more socially exploratory novels, Moods (1865, 1882) and Work (1873), as well as other lesser known stories. Special attention is given to the queer moments and possibilities in Alcott’s writing and a case made for read- ing her as a queer writer even though she has never been considered as one and rarely appears in queer literary histories (except, on occasion, as the creator of the famous tomboy “Jo”). The insights about Alcott made available by feminism are placed side by side those suggested by queer theory in order to understand how these two approaches can of- fer complementary readings.

  عبارة أثيرة لدى المؤسسات الثقافية، ولدى الكتاب والمتلقين في العالم العربي عامة، عبارة مقتطفة من رواية أولاد حارتنا تقول: "ولولا أنّ آفة حارتنا النسيان ما انتكس بها مثال طيب. لكن آفة حارتنا النسيان"، رغم ذلك استعصت ذكرى نجيب محفوظ على النسيان، وقر في ذاكرة الأمة كواحد من الملهمين عبر الأجيال حتى لو أصبح تمثاله في ميدان سفنكس بالجيزة محاطًا مختنقًا بين اللوحات الإعلانية والكباري التي غيرت معالم الميدان وبدلت حي العجوزة الذي عاش فيه أخريات حياته.

  تظل صورة نجيب محفوظ كما هي: رجل مسن نشيط يستند برشاقة على عكازه الخشبي التقليدي ويسير حاملًا ملف أوراقه بحماس وصبر ومواصلة لا تنقطع ولا تعرف التخاذل أو التوقف، حتى محاولة قتله من أحد الجهال الذين أخذهم طيش الشباب ونزقه فأعمى بصيرتهم، حتى تلك الحادثة لم تفت في عضده واستمر بعدها في طريقه وبطريقته الخاصة يعيش في الظل وينتقل من ظل إلى ظل، حتى لو كانت إحدى تلك المظلات التي استظل بها مظلة العالمية والشهرة الواسعة. بقي ذلك الشخصَ المتواضعَ الذي يسعى سيرًأ على القدمين فيعبر النيل من العجوزة ويصل مؤسسة الأهرام حيث المكتب الواسع الذي فتحوه له ليستقبل فيه ضيوفه بعد نوبل لكنه أبى أن يجلس على الكرسي الذي جلس عليه توفيق الحكيم يوما؛ إجلالًا وتواضعًأ أمام قامة أستاذه الذي علمه السحر.. سحر الكتابة وعظمة الحكمة وفلسفة الحياة.

  تحدث محفوظ يومًا عن جائزة نوبل أنها كانت مفاجأة له، وعندما أخبره السائل أن "النجاح ليس مفاجأة"؛ أجاب بابتسامته المعهودة: "النجاح مش هييجي صدفة.. لكن في حالتي أنا نوبل فاجأتني".

  نوبل -على حد قول محفوظ- كانت خارج حساباتنا كعرب، فوق توقعاتنا، على الأقل بالنسبة لجيله الذي كان يرى تلك الجائزة تذهب لعمالقة غربيين يجلهم العالم مثل برنارد شو، ولم يحصل عليها من الشرق إلا طاغور. حصل محفوظ على جوائز عديدة في مصر، على حد قوله كان معتادًا على الجوائز، حتى حصل على جائزة الدولة التقديرية في الأدب وهي أرفع جائزة في مصر تمنح لأديب، وكان يتوقعها وينتظرها ويعرف أنه أهل لها؛ لكن نوبل أمر آخر.

  قد يظن البعض أن أول معرفة العالم بمحفوظ كانت بسبب فوزه بجائزة نوبل، لكن يبدو أن الأمر سبق ذلك بكثير والدليل ذكره في أحد أحاديثه الكاتبُ الروائيُّ والصحفيُّ الراحل جمال الغيطاني الذي كان رئيسا للتحرير ومؤسسًا لصحيفة أخبار الأدب، عندما كان في أحد المؤتمرات الأدبية بالمكسيك وأخبره السفير المصري أن أحد أهم مخرجي السينما في الميكسيك يرغب في لقائه، وعندما قابله وجد الأخير يطلب منه إيصال رسالة إلى نجيب محفوظ تتضمن الرغبة في إخراج فيلم عن رواية زقاق المدق، وهنا تعجب الغيطاني، فقد ظن أن الرواية شديدة التعلق بالواقع المصري، لكن المخرج المكسيكي الكبير أخبره أن الأمر على خلاف ذلك وأنه وجد الرواية معبرة للغاية عن الواقع المكسيكي (مكانًا وزمانًا)، وأن فيها وصفًا دقيقًا لحالة العلاقة الملتبسة المشتبكة والمعقدة مع الجارة الكبرى في الشمال (الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية) الحلم الدائم والصراع المستمر والألم الذي لا ينتهي.

  جاء المخرج إلى القاهرة. التقى مع محفوظ بترتيب من جمال الغيطاني ووقع عقدًا لتحويل الرواية إلى فيلم مكسيكي. كان ذلك عام 1987م. أي قبل حصول محفوظ على نوبل بعام أو عدة شهور على الأقل، مما يعني أن الجائزة لم تكن الفيصل في عالمية محفوظ بل على العكس كان وصوله إلى العالم سببًا في نيلها.

  بعد تلك الواقعة بسنوات عرض الفيلم عالميًا في عام 1995م. حاز جوائز عديدة من مهرجانات شتى في أرجاء المعمورة، وجاء ليعرض في مهرجان القاهرة بعد هذه الواقعة بعشر سنوات (حسب قول الغيطاني) وكان ذلك إبَّان رئاسة الكاتب الراحل سعد الدين وهبة للمهرجان. سعد الدين وهبة الذي كان هو ذاته مؤلف السيناريو والحوار لفيلم زقاق المدق المصري الذي أنتج عام 1963م. بإخراج حسن الإمام الذي لقب بمخرج الروائع وصانع النجوم.

  حميدة التي اخترنا أن نعنون هذا المقال باسمها، شخصية محورية في الرواية وفي الفيلم المصري وأيضًا في الفيلم المكسيكي (مع تغير اسمها إلى ألما أو ألميتا)، ربما يكون الأصل أن موضوع الرواية هو الزقاق نفسه، المكان؛ لكن حميدة بشخصيتها التي تبدو ثرية بالمعاني، دالة إلى مدلولات متغلغلة في نفوس المتلقين فرضت نفسها. أذكر تركيز مُحاور شهير هو مفيد فوزي عليها في حواره مع نجيب محفوظ بعد نيله نوبل أي بعد إنتاج الفيلم بحوالي ربع قرن وبعد نشر الرواية في 1947م. بحوالي أربعة عقود. سأله متهمًا إياه بالتركيز على الشخصيات النسائية غير السوية في رواياته، أما النسوة العاديات الفاضلات اللاتي نجدهن في حياتنا اليومية فلا مكان لهن في رواياته أو نراهن على استحياء في زوايا عالمه الأدبي؛ بدا الخجل الشديد -حينها- على وجه الأديب العالمي نجيب محفوظ وأحال التهمة إلى صناعة السينما مبررًا بأن السينما تميل إلى الشيء الغريب الغير عادي، ولذلك كانت شخصيات العوالم والساقطات أقرب إلى التركيز عليها، رغم أن روايات محفوظ، على حد قوله، ذاخرة بالشخصيات السوية لكن بؤرة النور في الأفلام تكون على زبيدة العالمة وليس على الست أمينة [وهما شخصيتان من الثلاثية الشهيرة] رغم إن المساحة المعطاة للعوالم في الرواية لا تتعدى العشر صفحات، وهنا يلح عليه مفيد فوزي: "وحميدة أيضًا" فيهز محفوظ رأسه موافقًا.

  حَمِيدة إذًا كانت شخصية درامية قوية لدرجة أنها فرضت نفسها على الحوار التليفزيوني بعد خمسة وعشرين عامًا من إنتاج الفيلم. في تترات الفيلم التي كانت بالغة الروعة من خلال استغلال صور ظلية (Silhouette) تقدم للحياة في الزقاق وتفسر بصريًا اسم الفيلم (المدق) فتركز على دقاقي البن والحبوب العاكفين على طحنه، ومنهم إلى دقاقي الطار (الدف) الذين يدقونه ضابطين لإيقاع حركة أهل الزقاق المنشغلين في حلقة ذكر تجمع الصالح والطالح لكنهم جميعًا منخرطين في نفس الإيقاع، وسط ذلك يظهر اسم حميدة ليملأ الشاشة حتى يظن المشاهد أن الفيلم هو (فيلم حميدة) التي تأخذ دورها دلوعة السينما المصرية شادية في ثوبها الميلودرامي الجديد في ذلك الوقت، والتي نخرج من التتر بمشهد يقدمها للمشاهدين فيما يشبه دخول نجوم المسرح الذي يحفز تصفيقًا حادًا من الجمهور. حميدة/شادية مولية ظهرها للكاميرا وعسكري إنجليزي (أومباشي) فاغر فاه متّهَمًا بمعاكستها بينما يندفع حبيبها عباس الحلو/صلاح قابيل محاولًا النيل منه انتصارًا لمحبوبته التي لا توليه اهتمامًا في الواقع، كما يندفع أخوها في الرضاعة حسين كرشة/حسن يوسف محاولًا فض العركة قبل أن تتأجج موضحًا اللبس الذي حدث فالأومباشي صديقه ولم يكن يعاكس حميدة لكنه فقط كان يسألها عنه.. ينصرف حسين كرشة مع الأومباشي الإنجليزي، ويظل الحلو مع حميدة حيث يلومها لأنها خرجت إلى الشارع في هذا الوقت، لكنها لا تبدي اهتماما بكلامه وتحدثه بثقة زائدة وبقوة لا تناسب لهفته عليها، وتنصرف متهكمة عليه، ساخرة من تصوره أنه يستطيع التحكم فيها بدافع الحب، كانت حميدة من القوة بحيث لام النقاد على صناع الفيلم أنهم جعلوها تموت آخر الفيلم بخلاف ما حدث في الرواية التي مات في آخرها عباس الحلو، ونجت حميدة. ذلك من ناحية بناء الشخصيات الدرامية يعد منطقيًا أكثر، فالشخصية القادرة على خوض الصراع تستطيع مجابهة الصعاب والجهاد حتى آخر القصة والنجاة، على عكس شخصية حالمة مثل عباس الحلو يهلكها الحب والتعلق بالآخرين: الحبيبة والصديق والمبادئ. كان الحلو أقرب ليكون كبش فداء يضحي بحياته كي يعيش الجميع حتى لو لم تكن الحياة التي تصور أنهم يستحقونها، يُلمّح السارد في آخر الرواية أن حميدة تستمر في حياة المجون التي خرجت من الزقاق إليها، حتى أمها بالتبني كانت تستعد لتستفيد ماديًا من حياة ابنتها الجديدة دون إعارة الأخلاق أو المبادئ أي اهتمام.

  في الفيلم آثر المخرج حسن الإمام والسيناريست سعد الدين وهبة أن يحكموا على حميدة بالموت في النهاية. وهي نهاية مناسبة لفيلم ميلودرامي، ومناسبة أيضًا لإرضاء الجمهور الذي لن يسامح امرأة لعوبًا متمردة على الأعراف والتقاليد، إنها تتقمص شخصية المرأة الفاتكة أو ال(Femme Fatale) التي ظهرت في السينما العالمية، الغانية الفاتنة المثيرة الأثيرة التي رغم إتاحتها للجميع حتى توصف بالرخص، لكنها تكلف كل من يقترب منها حياته أو ربما أبعد من ذلك.

  حسن الإمام صنع فيلمًا قد لا يرضي ذائقة المتخصصين لكنه يدير ببراعة أحاسيس الجمهور ويلبي تطلعاته لأن تلك كانت الخاصية التي اشتهر بها، رغم أن بعض أفلامه تجيء في معظم قوائم أهم أفلام السينما المصرية والعربية، لكنه كان مستعدًا للتنازل عن معايير الجودة الفنية لصالح معايير السوق إذا استلزم الأمر ذلك، هذه نقطة قد تجعلنا نقف اليوم إزاء فيلم مثل زقاق المدق، ونتساءل ماذا لو كان أخرجه مثلا صلاح أبوسيف، كان بالطبع سيقتطع كمًا لا بأس به من التفاصيل المقحمة ليصبح الفيلم أكثر قوة، بالمناسبة فإن أول فيلم يخرجه حسن الإمام عن رواية لنجيب محفوظ وهو فيلم بين القصرين، كان مقررًا أن يخرجه أبوسيف لكنه كان مشغولًا حينها بإدارته للمؤسسة العامة للسينما فرشح الإمام الذي طعم الرواية بتوابل السينما التجارية لينجح ويستمر بعد ذلك في إخراج أعمال عن روايات لنجيب محفوظ: زقاق المدق ومن بعده أكمل ثلاثية محفوظ بفيلمي قصر الشوق والسكرية. كل هذه الأعمال تدور حول الحياة في حواري وأحياء وأزقة القاهرة الفاطمية مدينة الألف مئذنة والأكثر من ألف عام.

  وظف الإمام كل مواهب الممثلين في فيلمه مهما كانت أدوارهم كبيرة أو صغيرة، ومهما كانت مأساوية شخصياتهم، فكان إلى حد بعيد يوقف السرد أو يعطله حتى تقدم شادية أغنية جديدة بما أن الجمهور يعرفها كمطربة خفيفة الظل، والأغنية هي أغنية (نو يا جوني نو) من تأليف حسين السيد وألحان محمد الموجي، وتقدم سامية جمال رقصة كاملة دون أن تقاطعها الأحداث أو تغطي عليها الكثير من اللقطات التي قد تعكر صفو المشاهد المهتم بأدائها الرشيق والأنيق، ويظهر المونولوجيست الشهير محمود شكوكو بشخصيته الحقيقية ليقدم فاصلا كاملًا من الغناء الشعبي يتضمن مونولوجين هما (ورد عليك) و(حبيبي شغل كايرو) بينهما موال (يا ناعس الطرف لا ذقت الهوى أبدًا) بمصاحبة الراقصة نعمت مختار التي قدمت رقصة مختلفة تمامًا عن رقصة سامية جمال لأنها أكثر شعبية، وربما أقل رشاقة، لكنها مصحوبة بغمزات وابتسامات يطرب لوقعها نوع آخر من الجماهير، وقد يبرر الاختلاف بين الراقصتين وطبيعة رقصهما مكان الحدث وموقعه من الدراما، واحدة ترقص في الزقاق بين رجال حي شعبي وأخرى ترقص في قصر، صحيح أنه يدار للأعمال المنافية للآداب؛ لكن مرتاديه من علية القوم والأجانب، أي أن الرقصات كانت مبررة دراميًا لكنها في نفس الوقت كانت وحدات قائمة بذاتها.

  أيضًا يبدأ الفيلم بأغنية (الحُجَّاج) من تأليف فتحي قورة ويبدو أن كلماتها ألفت خصيصًا لتصاحب اللحن الافتتاحي الذي وضعه علي إسماعيل مؤلف الموسيقى التصويرية التي كانت أحد أهم نقاط قوة الفيلم. تقول الكلمات: "على نور النبي المختار.. رايحين للنبي الزوار.. ما نامتش العيون م الفرحة.. والليل ان بدا لقلبي نهار.. على نور النبي المختار". من الواضح أن مناسبة الأغنية هي رحلة حج، لكنك لن تجد أي رحلة حج في الفيلم، إلا إن كان المقصود أن الفيلم نفسه قد يكون رحلة إلى الإيمان أو اليقين أو الاكتشاف، لكن أيا ما عَنَّ لمتلقي اليومَ تفسير هذا بذلك؛ الأساس أن حسن الإمام حبش وجبته السينمائية بكل أنواع التوابل ووظف كل مهارات وقدرات فريق العمل لديه لتحقيق عرض متكامل يرضي كل الأذواق. حتى على مستوى الصورة وجمالياتها التي أبدع فيها مدير التصوير علي حسن مرة تعبيريًأ موظفًا الظلال الموحية والتي تختزل الكثير من الكلمات في جمل بصرية موجزة كمدخل للفيلم يرضي صاحبي التطلعات الإبداعية، ثم يكمل الفيلم بإضاءة كلاسيكية هوليودية تراعي إبراز جمال الممثل والديكور.

  رغم أن الفيلم المصري اتبع نفس بنية الرواية وحاول نقلها بأمانة، لكن الكثيرين رأوا أن الفيلم المكسيكي ...

The relationship between humanity, love, and war is deeply rooted in the depths of history. These two forces influence each other, though each has its own language and weapons. As literature mirrors the movement of society, it has reflected war as an instinctive phenomenon inherent in humanity, intertwined with feelings of love that it affects and is affected by, showcasing the manifestations of love and war in various literary genres. This research, therefore, was undertaken to examine the nature of love within a specific temporal condition—the time of war—and to trace its impact, along with war, on the spatial dimension. This is examined according to the nature of characters whose destinies are shaped by a pressing external reality, in contrast to others who possess an internal force, almost a torque, that confronts this reality, either succeeding or failing in their goal. What I aim to illuminate in this research is not merely the act of writing about love in wartime, but rather the novelistic works that approach love in wartime by Rashad Abu Shawar and Ernest Hemingway, viewed through the manifestation of the elements of time and space.

إن علاقة الإنسان بالحب والحرب معاً، علاقة تمتد جذورها في عمق التاريخ، وهما قوتان تؤثر إحداهما في الأخرى، علماً أنّ لكلّ منهما لغتها، وأسلحتها الخاصة.

ولما كان الأدب مرآة لحركة المجتمع، فقد عكس الحرب بوصفها ظاهرة غريزية ملازمة للإنسان، متعالقة مع مشاعر حب تؤثر فيها وتتأثر بها، وأبرز تجلّيات الحب والحرب في الأجناس الأدبية، ومن هنا جاء اختيار موضوع البحث، في محاولة لرصد طبيعة الحبّ، ضمن شرط زماني خاص هو زمن الحرب، وتقصي تأثيره مع الحرب على الفضاء المكاني، وبحسب طبيعة الشخصيات التي يتحكم في رسم أقدارها واقع خارجي ضاغط، في مقابل ما تمتلكه بعضها من قوة داخلية تكاد تكون بمنزلة عزم القوة الذي ينهض لمواجهة ذلك الواقع، سواء أنجح في هدفه أم فشل. وما أريد أن أضيء جوانبه في البحث، لا يتعلق بفعل الكتابة عن الحب في زمن الحرب، بل يتعلق بالأعمال الروائية المكتوبة التي تقارب الحب في زمن الحرب عند رشاد أبو شاور وارنست همنغواي، منظوراً إليها من خلال تجلي عنصري الزمان والمكان.

In questo articolo si analizza la costruzione dell'identità femminile di Modesta
attraverso la teoria di Michel Foucault, focalizzandosi sui tre poli fondamentali: sapere,
desiderio e potere. La protagonista del romanzo “L'arte della gioia” preso in esame in questo
elaborato, riesce a ritagliarsi progressivamente uno spazio di autonomia e libertà nel corso
della narrazione. Attraverso la nostra analisi, mostriamo come la famiglia e la società siano
fattori caratteristici nella sua formazione identitaria, costruendo i nuclei in cui si esercita il
primo polo foucaultiano, “il potere”. Di seguito, esaminiamo il concetto di “femminilità” in
relazione al secondo polo, “il desiderio”, facendo risaltare il ruolo cruciale della figura
materna. Modesta sfida le norme sociali e ridefinisce la propria femminilità, trovando nel
desiderio una forza motrice per la sua emancipazione e per la sua autostima. La sua relazione
con il desiderio diventa un elemento chiave nella sua lotta per l'autonomia e la gioia. Infine,
basandoci sul terzo polo, “il sapere”, analizziamo come Modesta costruisca la propria identità
attraverso l'apprendimento di varie “arti”. È attraverso il sapere che ella raggiunge la gioia
e la libertà, dimostrando che la conoscenza è un percorso di liberazione personale e di
realizzazione.

This paper explores how Toni Morrison's Paradise, a multi-generational and historicallycontextualized narrative on racial anxiety and gender insecurity, contests the transformation of such pathologies into contagious affectivities that enforce quarantine requirements in the American culture through its culinary ecology, the kitchen. The narrative uses food ways to expose how the pandemic of racial and gender insecurity becomes a reverse outbreak through culinary practices and geographies that project isolation. Thus, Paradise presents Ruby men who have been formerly enslaved and could not transcend the psychic wounds of their racial insults and the Convent women who still grapple with their traumas of patriarchal violence and abandonment. Both Ruby men and the Convent women fail to realize healing from their racial and gender pathologies. Such a reactionary affectivity is caused by their constant submission to a traumatic memory of self and communal-distancing culinary practices and food consumption that prolong the anxiety of their recidivism, racial marginalization, and patriarchal isolation. They ultimately construct quasi-quarantine spatialities represented by lockdown kitchens that feature various catalogues of recipes and ingredients that sustain the nutritional regulations of a quarantine cuisine. The narrative particularly suggests the realization of culinary integration as a required step to combat the detriments of the quarantine kitchen. Through establishing such connection, Morrison proposes the ethos of "opening-up" culinary practices in order to realize a healthy post-racial and post-patriarchal culture. So, Paradise integrates rememory to reconfigure the post-racial technologies of memory that continue to disseminate the biopolitics of quarantine. Morrison's ethical conception of Paradise then features a Sufi theosophy of alterative human disinfection from contagious diseases of spatialities to initiate divine unity and human elevation in a healthy and wholesome manner. In this respect, Paradise can be contextualized with the global health debates that confront pandemic and quarantine politics.

Starting from the intertwining of interpretations of the term écriture féminine, this analysis will develop around the 'poethical' and political aspects of Cixous' concept, which could be described as the non-presence of the author, language as a productive force and the 'poethical' as political. If it is the case that écriture féminine is not a recipe, not a protocol, not a style, and not even necessarily féminine, then the rest of écriture might also host versions of a feminine that is formed in its own language, outside of any particularity, essence or opposition. The core ideas underlying our claim that Ferrante's oeuvre is a new form of écriture féminine lie in Ferrante's reflections on her way of writing, in the productive heights of narrative pleasure she expresses, and in the narrator's not-knowing, not-saying and enjoying. Ferrante's writing challenges the theoretical and/or political dead ends of thinking about women and literature, not only because of her persistent anonymity, but above all because of her immersion in a language that does not allow for safe simplifications.

Elena Ferrante's The Lost Daughter (2008) offers a searing interrogation of the fraught intersection between motherhood and female selfhood while exposing the destabilizing effects of maternal ambivalence on women's autonomy. Through the psychologically fragmented narrative of Leda, a middle-aged academic grappling with the specters of her past maternal choices, Ferrante dismantles idealized notions of motherhood and showcases it as a site of tension rather than an innate, unifying identity. By foregrounding Leda's psychological turmoil and transgressive acts, the novel not only deconstructs the essentialist discourse of "natural" maternal instinct but also reveals the emancipatory potential of embracing ambivalence as a form of resistance. This paper argues that Elena Ferrante presents a radical critique of compulsory motherhood by framing maternal ambivalence not as failure, but as an act of resistance against patriarchal constructions of femininity. Drawing on psychoanalytic and feminist frameworks, particularly the works of Kristeva, Butler and Adrienne Rich, this paper examines how Ferrante's narrative exposes the gendered tensions between societal expectation and individual agency, challenging normative constructions of maternal subjectivity.

This article explores representations of subjecthood in Netflix's 2018 Italian teen drama Baby through a detailed investigation into the ways that the multiple spaces of an elite private high school in Rome's upper class Parioli neighborhood control and are controlled by the students who occupy them. The three-season series, a fictionalized version of a real-life Italian underage prostitution ring in Rome, explores all facets of the teenage lives of its characters, but it is through the space of the school, the hallways, the classrooms, the locker rooms, and the bathrooms, that we get to understand how social regulation works on and against those who depend on its structures. Using cultural geography and queer theory, this analysis explores how the representation of these students in these spaces ultimately reveals the inability of normative structures to understand or educate these students in a way that meets their needs.

This article demonstrates how Merle Hodge's Crick Crack, Monkey projects an awareness of traumatic shame in the Caribbean transnational travel setting and contributes to the understanding of the epistemology of cultural shame. Hodge's narrative introduces disruptive trauma to experiment with the possibilities of transcending it in a way that evokes Dominique LaCapra's theory regarding the two forms of remembering trauma: "acting out" and "working through." In this context, Hodge's Crick Crack, Monkey also reads Homi Bhabha's two notions of mimicry and stereotype to propose a healing strategy unrecognized by the traumatized protagonist. Reading the reenactment of cultural trauma of shame in Hodge's narrative introduces a genre of resistance and transformation through the investigation of the possible ways of working through trauma.

يقدّم كتاب "محنة الكاتب الإفريقي" لتشارلز لارسون قراءة عميقة في التحديات التي واجهت الأدب الإفريقي منذ لحظة تبلوره في ستينيات القرن العشرين، وحتى ما بعد استقلال دول إفريقيا جنوب الصحراء. ويتتبع لارسون كيف نشأ هذا الأدب في ظل أنظمة سياسية قمعية، وبُنى نشر ضعيفة، وجمهور محدود بفعل الأمية وارتفاع أسعار الكتب، فضلًا عن تهميشه داخل الأكاديميا الغربية التي طالما شكّكت في شرعيته. ويُظهر أن الكتابة في السياق الإفريقي ليست مجرد ممارسة فنية، بل فعل نضالي محفوف بالمخاطر، إذ يواجه الكُتّاب الرقابة والسجن والنفي، وفي قلب هذه المحنة، يطرح لارسون فرضية مركزية مفادها أن الأدب الإفريقي يظل، رغم كل المعوقات، صوتًا ثقافيًا حيًا في معركة تأكيد الذات ومواجهة الإقصاء.

In her article “The Female Best-Friend Novel: Narration and the Reconsideration of the
Political Act,” Neta Stahl argues that twentieth- and twenty-first-century women novelists borrowed
the eighteenth- and nineteenth-century best-friend narrative, reintroducing it for the purpose of
challenging the very concept of the political act, namely, what modern, liberal society considers as a
political action and what stands behind it. The article focuses on four novels written by novelists from
four different countries: the American novelist Toni Morrison’s Sula (1973); the Israeli novelist Ronit
Matalon’s Sarah, Sarah (2000); the Italian novelist Elena Ferrante’s L’amica geniale: Storia di chi
fugge e di chi resta (Book 3 of The Neapolitan Novels: Those Who Leave and Those Who Stay, 2013);
and the British novelist Zadie Smith’s Swing Time (2016). It demonstrates that in these novels, the
political act is reconsidered, against the gaze of the best-friend and against the role of a supposedly
female ‘prince charming’. Further, Stahl argues that the modern female best-friend novel is not a
‘female counterpart’ to the male best-friend novel, but rather a new take on a female literary tradition
associated with a genre that is often dismissed by the intellectual elite as popular literature, thanks to
its use of low-brow devices borrowed from the nineteenth-century novel.

The phenomenon known as Ferrante fever, which has garnered significant attention in America and even led to the creation of a documentary film in 2017, has yet to be comprehensively studied in the context of its reception in Europe, particularly in Spain, a country with close geographical and cultural ties to Italy. This paper aims to delve into this area of study, also focusing on the translation of Elena Ferrante's neologisms into Castilian, with a special emphasis on the term smarginatura, which becomes, with a semantic forcing, a metaphor for a new post-modern and universal condition, thereby producing a desbordamiento of all borders, both national and identity-based.

Nel suo celebre romanzo Viaggio al termine della notte, Louis-Ferdinand Céline affermava: «tutto quello che è interessante accade nell'ombra, davvero. Non si sa nulla della vera storia degli uomini».
Allo stesso modo siamo consapevoli del fatto che quanto un autore sceglie di raccontare non sia che la punta dell’iceberg, una minima parte che emerge dagli abissi del non detto. In una scrittrice come Elena Ferrante poi, che della sottrazione, anche della sua stessa identità, ha fatto la sua cifra costitutiva, ciò è forse ancor più vero. Questo contributo si propone dunque di analizzare quelli che, utilizzando una metafora del mondo sartoriale caro a Ferrante, potremmo definire gli scampoli residuali delle opere che l’hanno resa famosa in tutto il mondo. Ma anche di illuminare con flebili barbagli il buio di quel pozzo da cui questa autrice straordinaria ci racconta di pescare storie e parole, quasi come se il processo creativo fosse qualcosa di magico e superiore, indipendente da ogni volontà, ma non per questo privo di artifizi. A questo proposito si procederà ad un’analisi di tre testi che rappresentano una sorta di dietro le quinte del modus operandi e dell’universo sommerso di Ferrante: La frantumaglia (2003, 2007, 2015), L’invenzione occasionale (2019) e I margini e il dettato (2021), vere e proprie eterotopie, che mantengono in un sapiente gioco di intrecci e dissonanze un dialogo ininterrotto con la produzione mainstream di questa autrice.

Noi usiamo le narrazioni per vivere intensamente, ma la scrittura non è un’arte facile da padroneggiare. Ci sono persone genuinamente capaci di imprimere subito tutto quel che serve quando scrivono, ma non dura per sempre e non funziona sempre. Formazione e informazione sono l’aiuto che servirà – perché servirà – a proseguire nel cammino di scrittori quando ogni lampadina sembrerà essersi spenta. L’ispirazione è un’energia notevole ma serve anche altro, soprattutto per scrivere dei racconti brevi, che non sono affatto una forma narrativa semplice.

The goal of this article is to analyze "The African", by J. M. G. Le Clezio, taking support in the author's reflexion about the body. Considering that the nigerian author showcases this theme in his book, we are to examine the fall of the dichotomy between nature and culture, which is one of the most rooted dichotomies in social theories studied in the western, and also the way how the body is evaluated is a dynamic in his book, in the way that is involved in the reports he builds in the game of the writing of self, becoming describable as he learns to be affected by other cultural elements. We will also analyze photographs presented in his book in tandem with the multiplicity of senses transmited by those images, with their function in chap- ters as well, always considering the space between fic - tion and biography.

Este ensaio tem por objetivo analisar como a nacionalidade brasileira se constrói no romance de Carolina Maria de Jesus, Quarto de despejo: diário de uma favelada (1960). Trata-se de uma obra autobiográfica, e sendo a autora mulher, pobre e negra, permiti-nos perceber a existência de "brasis" edificados, dentre outros vários elementos, sobre as bases da desigualdade sócio-econômica, étnico/racial e de gênero. Percebe-se que é desta forma que a nação é construída e reconstruída ininterruptamente -por variados tempos, espaços e sujeitos. São múltiplas determinações surgidas a partir das relações sociais estabelecidas entre um povo que se afirma, em muitos aspectos, a partir da negação do outro e das condições em que vive.

A escrita da negra-mulher na contemporaneidade constitui um gesto de resistência e afirmação identitária, que busca romper com os processos históricos de silenciamento e apagamento. Nesse contexto, a literatura é compreendida como uma estética política, capaz de tensionar e coibir as estruturas de poder que incidem sobre os corpos racializados e generificados. A escrevivência, conceito central na produção literária de Conceição Evaristo, transcende o testemunho individual e instaura-se como prática discursiva de um coletivo historicamente marginalizado, articulando as dimensões vivência, memória e identidade. Nesse sentido, não se restringe ao testemunho individual, mas emerge como expressão coletiva, enraizada na experiência compartilhada e na memória ancestral. Este estudo analisa os poemas "Vozes-mulheres", "A noite não adormece nos olhos das mulheres" e "Da calma e do silêncio", presentes na obra Poemas de recordação e outros movimentos (2021), de Conceição Evaristo, a fim de investigar de que maneira a escrevivência promove a partilha do sensível e se articula com a memória, a história e a construção das identidades. Un'assenza che unisce in un legame invisibile scrittrici e poetesse, commediografe e filosofe, pensatrici solitarie, contrastate da un universo di segni che racconta la prerogativa maschile sulla parola. Ciascuna costruisce il filo che la unisce alle altre, alla "società delle straniere", capace di narrare la storia di una diversità di pensiero e di scrittura. Una filigrana di voci e di testi, molti ancora da scoprire, da leggere, rileggere, che vi proponiamo in questa collana.

Neste  artigo,  analiso  a  amizade  entre  as  duas  protagonistas  da  série  de  romances  da  escritora  Elena  Ferrante,  mais  conhecido  como  “tetralogia  na-politana”, à luz da teoria do romance de formação. Se nos romances de formação clássicos, a amizade é um elemento essencial para a formação da personalidade do protagonista, na tetralogia napolitana de Ferrante a amizade entre Elena Greco (Lenu) e Raffaela Cerullo (Lila) torna-se o elemento central, mais importante e determinante na formação das duas protagonistas. Consequentemente, com a representação  de  duas  protagonistas  no  centro  do  enredo  conectadas  por  essa  relação  de  amizade,  Ferrante  também  modifica  a  característica  do  individualismo típica do romance de formação. Em diálogo com historiadores como Rei-nhart Koselleck, Franco Moretti, bem como o sociólogo Georg Simmel e o teórico da literatura Mikhail Bakhtin, além da fortuna crítica da obra ferranteana, analiso neste artigo a configuração da amizade de Lenu e Lila na tetralogia napolitana e suas subversões dos topoi do subgênero romance de formação.

This  article  intends  to  analyze  the  friendship  between  the  two  protagonists of the series of novels by the writer Elena Ferrante, better known as  “Neapolitan  novels”,  in  the  light  of  the  theory  of  the  Bildungsroman.  In  the  classics Bildungsromanes,  friendship  is  an  essential  element  for  the  formation  of  the  protagonist’s  personality  but  in  Ferrante’s  Neapolitan  novels  the  friendship  between  Elena  Greco  (Lenu)  and  Rafaella  Cerullo  (Lila)  becomes  central, the most important and decisive element in the formation of the two protagonists. Consequently, with the representation of two protagonists at the center  of  the  plot  connected  by  this  friendship,  Ferrante  also  modifies  other  typical  characteristic  of  the  Bildungsroman  such  as  the  individualism.  In  dia-logue  with  historians  such  as  Reinhart  Koselleck,  Franco  Moretti,  as  well  the  sociologist Georg Simmel and the literary theorist Mikhail Bakhtin, in addition to the critical fortune of Ferrante’s work, I analyze in this article the configuration of Lenu and Lila’s friendship in the Neapolitan novels and its subversions of the topoi of the Bildungsroman subgenre.

La propuesta se basa en un análisis comparatístico
sobre las representaciones de los cuerpos gestantes,
puerperios y crianzas presentes en las novelas Noticias
sobre Christa T. (1968) de Christa Wolf (1929–2011) y
la tetralogía Dos amigas de Elena Ferrante (1953) que
comprende las novelas: La amiga estupenda (2011), Un
mal nombre (2012), Las deudas del cuerpo (2013) y La niña
perdida (2014). Asimismo, se pretende explorar cómo de
estas obras se desprende una reflexión sobre la escritura,
la creatividad y la inadecuación del lenguaje, para dar
cuenta de la experiencia que atraviesa a las figuras ma￾ternas y que se inscribe en el aspecto utópico del poder
de la palabra para recuperar la genealogía femenina. La
comparación se propone profundizar las hipótesis de
estudios recientes que se concentran en delinear una
continuidad entre Wolf y Ferrante.

Este ensayo mapea las coordenadas de Elena Ferrante como un fenómeno literario global y, en particular, en relación con la disciplina de los estudios clásicos y la construcción de la personalidad autoral de Ferrante dentro de la tradición literaria clásica. Además, explora figuras femeninas recurrentes que Ferrante toma prestadas del mito griego, creando de hecho su propia mitología femenina. Este proceso es examinado en el libro infantil de Ferrante La muñeca olvidada (2007), una historia sobre una muñeca abandonada en la playa que reconfigura el mito de Ariadna. Al observar La muñeca olvidada a través de los lentes del mito griego, el ensayo argumenta que los textos de Ferrante no solo absorben y revisan a autores masculinos clásicos, sino que también reinventan figuras femeninas abandonadas de la tradición grecorromana. Son sus historias, filtradas a través de la encarnación de una subjetividad femenina, las que habitan sus textos, generando mitologías nuevas y modernas sobre las mentes y los cuerpos de las mujeres, sobre las madres y las hijas, la feminidad y la agencia.

This essay maps the coordinates of Elena Ferrante as a global literary phenomenon and in particular, in relation to the discipline of Classics and the construction of Ferrante’s authorial persona within the Classical literary tradition. It further explores recurring female figures that Ferrante borrows from Greek myth, in effect creating her own feminine mythology. This process is examined in Ferrante’s children’s book La spiaggia di notte (2007), the story of a doll abandoned on the beach which reconfigures the myth of Ariadne. By looking at La spiaggia di nottte through the lens of Greek myth, the essay argues that Ferrante’s texts not only absorb and revise classical male authors, but also reimagine abandoned female figures from the Greco-Roman tradition. It is their stories, filtered through an embodied female subjectivity, that inhabit her texts, engendering new, modern, mythologies about women’s minds and bodies, about mothers and daughters, femininity, and agency.

La escritura es un tema recurrente en la obra de Elena Ferrante. En sus artículos y entrevistas más recientes, la reflexión sobre el acto de escribir da paso a una reflexión específica sobre las "escritoras". El concepto que propone Ferrante para describir la novedad que introducen las escritoras dentro de la tradición literaria es el de "genealogía" (un concepto del feminismo de la diferencia sexual formulado por Luce Irigaray y Luisa Muraro). Retomando la invitación de Ferrante a fortalecer una "genealogía artística" femenina, este artículo propone un linaje que conecta a la autora de las novelas napolitanas con Sibilla Aleramo, a través de Goliarda Sapienza. Siguiendo el hilo de sus reflexiones sobre la escritura, se resaltarán una serie de vínculos y cruces entre estos autores de diferentes generaciones entre ellos: la pasión por la lectura, por la autobiogra!a y la metaficción. Finalmente, el artículo se centrará en cómo el fenómeno Ferrante ha ayudado a llevar la cuestión de la escritura de las mujeres al centro del debate teórico feminista.

يكمن نصف جمال الحياة في تعقيدها - في تلك التجارب التي لا يمكن حصر عمقها وأبعادها أو تسويتها أو احتوائها في فئات مرتبة. لا يوجد مكان يكون فيه هذا التعقيد أكبر أو أكثر ثراءً أو مليئًا بالفوارق الدقيقة كما هو الحال في العالم العاطفي للعلاقات الإنسانية، حيث يتحدى فضاء أكثر اتساعًا، ويقحم نفسه بين مختلف التسميات التي نحاول فرضها عليها. تلك العلاقات التي نسميها الأفلاطونية يصعب تصنيفها بدرجة كافية، ولكن عندما تتخلل الصداقة نبض الحب الرومانسي، وعندما يتوقف شخصان عن معرفة ما يدعوان بعضهما البعض، ويعرفان فقط ما يعنيان لبعضهما البعض، تصل الحياة إلى مستوى يتصاعد فيه التعقيد، ويمكن أن تصبح إما شديدة الصراخ أو تعزف السمفونية المتعالية موسيقاها. ومن تلك السمفونيات الخالية من التعقيد التواصلي، العلاقة بين راشيل كارسون ودوروثي فريمان، وجبران خليل جبران وماري هاسكل . وقد نشأت أحد هذه الروابط غير المألوفة بين عازفة البيانو الموهوبة كلارا شومان (13 أيلول 1819 - 20 أيار 1896) والمؤلف الموسيقي يوهانس برامز (7 أيار 1833 - 3 نيسان 1897).

إن (طفل الثامنة والتسعين نصراني) عوالم من المعلومات المتناثرة والمتجمعة معًا، وهي كثيفة بحيث تتكاثر وتتناسل داخل العمل من أقصاه إلى أقصاه، فهناك معلومات عن تروتسكي الذي يصفه السارد بصديق المعلمة"سافو"، والتي يرى فيها بطلة للرواية، فيما ترى هي في والد النصراني" أحمد الزميكر" البطل الحقيقي، وهناك معلومات عن مصر عبد الناصر، وما بعده وقبله وما قبل هذا القبل، حيث حسن العرابي وسعد زغلول ومصطفى النحاس، وهو ما سنجده في اندماج وصول المنفيين من حزب الوفد إلى عدن في طريقهم لمنفى آخر بعيد، ومعلومات سردية الطابع عن زيارة غاندي الهند لعدن في تفاصيل حتى انحرافه بالسفينة انحرافًا كادت معه أن تغرق، ومثلما يحضر هؤلاء يحضر قائد ثورة الريف في المغرب المناضل عبد الكريم الحطابي، ومحاولة الثوار اليمنيين تهريبه، وجورج لوكاش، والحزب الشيوعي الفرنسي وتفرعاته ومؤتمره العشرين، وستالين، ولينين وزوجته، وبودابست وقلعتها، والشعراء أنا أخماتوفا، وكفافيس، ويسنين، ورامبو الذي سنجد حتى صورة ختمه أو طابعه الشخصي الذي استخدمه في معاملاته التجارية في عدن على النحو: عبد ربه الكراني-عبده رامبو، وكذلك الشاعر اليهودي المصري السوريالي إدموند جاييس الذي امتلك أسرته قبل ثورة يوليو الناصرية بنوكًا وثروة طائلة في مصر وكيف أهدى نصف ثروته للثورة، لكن الثورة أخذت بقية ثروته وطردته وعائلته من مصر فعاش مشردًا في باريس مع أصدقائه من الشعراء، وهذه المعلومات ليست سوى غيض من فيض المعلومات والمعرفة بداخل الرواية، ومما لا يمكن نسيانه هنا وجود خيط رفيع متكاثر من الأساطير اليونانية بحيث توشك أن تجد داخل الرواية منظومة سردية من أساطير الأغريق قوم سافو، والتي قد يشار إليها بأرتميس إلهة الصيد الإغريقية، وقصة أحمد النصراني شبيهة بقصة باريس وهيليين اللذين تسببا بسقوط طروادة، وفرحة اليهودية وزواجها من سرور ليسا في ذا الزواج إلا فرحة وديكليون بعد هبوطهما على البرناس بعد الطوفان، وهكذا إلى ما لا نهاية من المعلومات التساردية بشكل لانهائي.
تغطي القصص في "النصراني" كل مكان، وأينما نبتت لا تنفصل عن جماعات أخواتها المتساردات، سواء في جميع المساحات الزمنية أو المساحات الجغرافية، وحتى في التاريخ، فكل شيء يرتبط بكل شيء، وكل أحد يقدم سرديته عن الموضوع وثيماته، حيث يحاول الكل السرد والحكي، وهو ما يثبته باسم في قمة هذيانه في نصه" خاطف - سريع لا يتوانى عن الاندياح"، الهيستيري مشيرًا إلى مواثبة أخيه خالق عبد القيوم السارد الأول، إياه، وروايته له محاولاته والآخرين كتابة هذه السيرة قائلا:" واثبني جوزيف في أقاصي الوسن: سايرته؛ تثنى من تباكر صحوه، وتأنُّسِ سهره وخموده أواخر المساءات؛ ليس غير أقل الأقل من الأقل الباقي!...

El presente estudio examina la novela El amor molesto (1992) de Elena Ferrante, centrándose en la complejidad de las relaciones maternofiliales en el contexto de la sociedad patriarcal napolitana. A través del análisis de la narrativa y de la temporalidad fragmentada de la obra, se revela cómo la protagonista, Delia, desentraña la historia de su madre, Amalia, cuya muerte aparentemente accidental desencadena un proceso de introspección y confrontación con un pasado traumático. Este proceso llevará a Delia a cuestionar y finalmente comprender a la figura materna, así como las dinámicas de poder y de violencia que han marcado su relación con Amalia. Ferrante articula una crítica al control patriarcal, y utiliza la ciudad de Nápoles como un reflejo de la opresión y de la resistencia femeninas.

This article starts from Mikhail Bakhtin's well-known essay on the Bildungsroman to confront his ideas about the representation, by this novelistic genre, of the formation of man, with Paul Ricoeur's concept of narrative identity. The French philosopher understands the  narrative  as  the  only  possibility  of  constituting  the  subject's  identity,  which  can  be extended to the way in which the Bildungsroman, the novel of formation, seeks to show the constitution of the characters' character. The dialectic between sameness and ipseity explains the ways in which this genre configures itself as a narrative.

La propuesta consiste en analizar los elementos vinculados con la novela de formación presentes en la tetralogía Dos amigas de Elena Ferrante que comprende las obras: La amiga estupenda (2011), Un mal nombre (2012); Las deudas del cuerpo (2013) y La niña perdida (2014).
Se exploran las trayectorias de las protagonistas de Dos Amigas vinculadas a la tradición literaria de las novelas de aprendizaje femeninas con el propósito de identificar los giros y recursos narrativos que evidencian un quiebre con las heroínas femeninas analizadas en el siglo XX. El objetivo de identificar los aspectos formales relacionados con el proceso de formación de los sujetos femeninos en la obra de Ferrante se relaciona con la actualidad de su propuesta, que subvierte los modelos analizados por la crítica literaria feminista de los años setenta y que plantea complejas discusiones afines a los debates feministas del siglo XXI.

"Narratives Beyond the Self: Relationality in Contemporary Italian Literature represents the first extensive attempt to map a relational path in contemporary Italian literature. It achieves this by focusing on literary works that thematically and structurally reflect a reconceptualisation of a strong and autonomous self in relational terms. Over the past few decades, Italian literature has witnessed the emergence of numerous texts that explore new ways to articulate the relationship between self and other, individual and community. These narratives complicate the ‘ipertrofia dell’io’ that dominates many contemporary works by placing the ‘I’ in a network of relations and emphasising the intersubjective and collective nature of both identity and storytelling. To account for this constant mediation and renegotiation of the self, such works take the form of reported stories, auto/biographical or auto/biofictional accounts, first-person plural and collective narrations, and even collaborative autobiographies. The issue aims to chart such developments not by delineating a clear route or tracing straight-edged boundaries but rather by analysing a constellation of texts that have grown increasingly important despite their somewhat peripheral status in contemporary canons or their unconventional nature, which reworks literary genres and reinvents narratological structures.

Since the 1970s and 1980s, history theorists and historians
have been interested in the formal aspects of historiographical texts,
problematizing the separation between history and fiction and focusing
on what these discursive genres have in common: they are conventionalized, intertextual linguistic constructs, which use poetic and rhetorical
devices in their representations of reality. In this article I intend to reflect on the ways in which two contemporary writers, Annie Ernaux and
Elena Ferrante, figure out the relations between history and fiction and,
to this end, parody traditional literary genres, such as the Bildungsroman
and the autobiography. At first, they seem to follow opposite directions: while Ernaux integrates a certain objectivist turn, which marks
the literature defined by Ivan Jablonka (2020) as post-realist, Ferrante
mobilizes forms, motifs and genres traditionally associated with the
modern realistic novel. On the other hand, both appropriate the topoi
of the classic Bildungsroman and, at the same time, deform and update
them, subjecting them to the pressure of issues that characterize literary
narratives at the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st,
in order to narratively investigate the articulations between (female)
writing and formation, and between the fictions of the self and the fictions of 20th century history.
