In this study, a buckler crab, Cryptopodia angulata, reported for the first time from Majali, Karwar, West coast of India. This species rarely occurs in the Indian coastal waters and this is the first report from the Karwar coast. External characters have been photographed and examined.

This research was conducted in October to December 2016 at fish seed center Pengujan, Bintan, Riau Island. The purpose of research was to determine the best concentration of Extrajoss for improving the rate of population growth of B. plicatilis in media culture. Complete Random Design (CRD) was applied as a method at this study with 4 taraf treatments that is P0 media consists of 300 mg chicken manure, 7.5 mg TSP, 6 mg Urea, 0.45 g yeast Bread/3 liters of water (control), then for further media added P1 (0.30 g Extrajoss), P2 (0.40 g Extrajoss), and P3 (0.50 g Extrajoss) with 3 replicates and observation 2 times day. Hominin consumption of small prey has been much discussed over the past decades. Such resources are often considered to be unproductive in the Middle Paleolithic due to their limited meat yield and, hence, low energy return. Temperature manipulation during incubation has effect on embryonic development, hatchability and incubation duration. The incubation temperature of broiler breeder eggs was decreased 3°C and 2°C than standard temperature at day 15 for next 113 hours. The minimum 35°C/95°F is integral to start peeping of chicks. After incubating at 3°C and 2°C less than standard incubation temperature, the incubation temperature was again increased 1.5°C and 1°C respectively up to hatching results delay in hatching for 12 hours. The hatchability (84.38 ± 3.44 a , 86.79 ± 2.17 a ), candling (8.06 ± 2.66 b , 7.29 ± 1.39 b ) and dead in shell (7.56 ± 0.92 c , 5.92 ± 0.83 c ) were insignificant (P < 0.05). The temperature manipulation did not affect the hatch window. The hatch window was found same for control and experimental group. The only effect was 12 hours late peeping of chicks compared to control. The chicks transferred to broiler houses and house conditions were kept same for both experimental and control group. We found that feed intake (g) of experimental group was higher than control for first four weeks; while in fifth week the feed intake of control was better than experimental group. Due to high feed intake the weight gain (g) of experimental group was higher for first three weeks and for control group last two weeks. The Feed conversion ratio was found to be better for experimental group for first week, for rest four weeks the FCR of control group was found better than experimental group. The weekly mortality of chicks was found higher for experimental group, with highest for last week of growing. In short by temperature manipulation after d 15 of incubation at 3°C and 2°C less than standard incubation temperature for 113 hours then increasing temperature 1.5°C and 1°C respectively up to hatching results in delay in hatching for 12 hours, with significant (P < 0.05) last week mortality.

This research investigates quality management practices in the poultry hatcheries with special attention to Sri Maruthi Hatcheries in Tamil Nadu, which is known for its quality chick production. Considering the high competition and the need for quality in the poultry industry, quality control and assurance is fundamental in winning customer confidence, and consistent products and services. The objective of this study is to assess the existing practices, gaps and opportunities of the quality control systems in the hatchery operation and production processes. Resources such as surveys and interviews with staff and secondary sources including industry reports and case studies were used in the study to look into incubation practices, environment and structural control, and labor as critical determinants of chick hatchability and product integrity. The research findings indicate the existence of gaps in the processes, some of the equipment used, trainings, and these gaps can be able to improve the quality control performance of the hatchery. Suggested improvements include better education and training of the staff, better management of the environmental conditions, and more thorough inspection procedures. Between these needs gaps and the recommendations, Sri Maruthi Hatcheries will enhance its grip on the market, increasing customer satisfaction and pioneering other expansion attributes for poultry hatcheries in the industry.

Fertility and hatchability are major determinants for profitability in a hatchery enterprise. A healthy chicken starts from a good quality intact breeder's egg. The egg is a multifunctional biomineral complex consists of highly structured calcium carbonate shell act as a barrier for growing embryo to prevent microbial invasion and provide mechanical strength [1]. The eggs should appear smooth and free of cracks by the naked eye. The damage of eggshell may occur at any level occasionally including transportation and while eggs settings. Some eggshell breakage may be complete crack, star crack, pimples, pinholes, sandpaper, leathery appearance and hairline cracks, account for approximately 0.5% to 6% of total eggs production [2]. P oultry is the 2 nd largest industry of Pakistan whose play a dynamic role in the GDP of country. Poultry products are rich source of protein and good source of income. Importance of poultry is further emphasized by its demand and production ability in the country (Hussain et al., 2015; FAO, 2011). In Pakistan, currently there are more than twenty-five thousand poultry farms and four hundred hatcheries, that providing employment and income for livelihood of thousands of people and also fulfilling the most of animal protein requirement of the nation. Moreover, the poultry industry has engaged a thousands of veterinarians for disease management and quality insurance of poultry products (Anonyms, 2011; Nazia et al., 2015). Temperature is the main factors known to influence embryonic development (Mahmud et al., 2011). The effect of pre-heating on hatchability has been evaluated to a partial developmental stage of embryo before or after pre-heating treatment (Reijrink et al., 2009). It is of interest to point out that, prior storage, heating the chick eggs for six hours allowed the complete formation of hypoblast (Silva et al., 2008). The effects of pre incubation on hatchability are directly depending upon their flock management, nutrition, age and pre-heating temperature/period. It was documented that the chick weight, hatchability and temperature are very closely interrelated (King' ori, 2011). Development of embryo in broiler breeder eggs are started from the time of laying, as at the moment of lay, the egg temperature is above 40°C (North and Bell, 1990). In the recent decades, several studies reported that pre-heating of poultry eggs before storage resulted in more live chicks and a lower level of embryonic mortality compared to the eggs that remained un-heated (Reijrink et al., 2009). The hatchery's key aim is to provide an even and uniform start of growth for all embryos placed in incubator. The prewarming process directly influences embryo capability and avoid condensation. In current study, three experimental groups each consist of 4, 03,920 eggs were pre-heated at 82 o F for 5 hours (Group A), 82 o F for 3 hours (Group B) or without pre-heat treatment (control, Group C) were selected to investigate the effect of pre-warming on hatchability and post-hatch performance. Each treatment group consists of fifteen hatch records of commercial hatchery. Results showed that significant differences (P <0.01) were documented in hatchability percentage between A and C groups (1.339±0.066) as compared to A and B (0.621± 0.059), or B and C groups (0.71±0.072). Mortality was reduced significantly (P<0.05) in A (3.18±0.77) and B (3.97±0.63) groups as compared to control (5.39±0.02). Weight gain was increased (P<0.01) in A (1955.66±21.82) and B (1896±83.97) groups than control group (1668.33±32.14). Feed conversion ratio were found significantly better (P<0.002) in A (1.49±0.06) and B (1.72±0.02) groups than C group (1.91±0.05). However, feed intake was not affected (P> 0.05) by the pre-warming regimen of eggs. These results suggested that pre-warming of eggs is a beneficial regimen, which may be used to enhance the hatchability and posthatch performance of broilers.

Incubation duration is most important factor to achieve standard hatchability, water loss and chick yield. The current study was conducted to evaluate the exact duration of egg incubation and its effects on egg hatchability and broiler's performance at farm. Eggs from Ross-308 breeder flocks having age of 42-46 weeks and standard weight of 55-60g were divided into two experimental groups each consist of (n= 538,560) eggs. Group A was incubated for 506 hours (444h in setter and 62 h in hatcher) and hatch pulling was performed twice 1 st after 494 h and remaining un-hatch eggs were again shifted to hatchers for next 12 h for 2 nd pulling (conventional method of hatch pulling in Pakistan). For group B, hatch pulling was performed after 506 h (456 h in setter and 50 h in hatcher) and complete hatch pulling was done only once. Eggs weight (54.9 ±0.6, 53.9±0.8)at transfer (from setter to hatcher), water loss at transfer (10.6±0.7, 11.67±0.7) and chick weight at day one (42.7±0.3, 41.6±0.3) were significantly (P<0.05) different between group A and B respectively. Similarly, hatchability percentage (85.16±1.02,85.56±1.02) and dead in shell (DIS) percentage(6.62 ±1.5, 6.61±0.8)were also positively (P<0.05) changed in group A as compared to group B respectively. Mortality (3.47±0.23, 2.28±0.06), weight gain (1955.66±25.02, 2001.33±24.33), feed intake (3260.51±13.47, 3245.02±18.03,) and feed conservation ratio at day 35(1.716±0.03, 1.44±0.02) were also found significantly (P<0.05) different in group A than B respectively. These, results indicated that incubation of eggs for 506 h along with single hatch pull is better in terms of water loss, hatchability, DIS percentage and post-hatch performance of broilers.

Abstrak Nannochloropsis sp. adalah mikroalga yang biasa digunakan sebagai pakan alami dalam kegiatan kultur larva ikan dan udang karena memiliki kandungan asam amino yang tinggi. Ketersediaan asam amino dipengaruhi oleh cahaya dalam proses fotosintesis. Tingginya asam amino non esensial pada mikroalga akan meningkatkan nutrisi pakan alami bagi larva ikan dan udang. Rotifers are the main feed during the hatchery process in fisheries. However, rotifers rely heavily on Nannochloropsis as their natural feed. This research was conducted to find out alternative feeds for rotifers. This study used bread yeast, and trash fish as an alternative feed for eight days. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh dosis ragi roti yang berbeda terhadap kepadatan rotifera (Brachionus plicatilis). Penelitian ini dilakukan pada bulan Agustus 2021 di Laboratorium Perikanan Terpadu, Universitas Sulawesi Barat. Rotifera dikultur dengan pemberian pakan alami Nannochloropsis sp.  sebanyak 41 ml dengan penambahan berbagai dosis ragi roti. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 4 perlakuan dan 3 ulangan yaitu perlakuan A sebagai kontrol yakni penambahan ragi roti dengan dosis 0,0 mg/L, perlakuan B dosis 15,0 mg/L, perlakuan C dosis 30,0 mg/L, dan perlakuan D dosis 45,0 mg/L. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas penggunaan jenis garam dan salinitas yang berbeda terhadap daya tetas artemia salina, menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) Faktorial dengan 7 taraf perlakuan dan 3 kali ulangan. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Februari 2022 di Laboratorium Basah, Fakultas Perikanan Universitas Dharmawangsa. Parameter yang di amati antara lain : nilai Hatching Persentase (HP)  menunjukkan nilai daya tetas tetas tertinggi terdapat pada perlakuan penetasan artemia dengan menggunakan garam dolpin di salinitas 30 ppt yaitu sebesar 59,43 %. Rotifera (Branchionus plicatilis) merupakan zooplankton yang dapat dijadikan sebagai pakan alami larva ikan. Kepiting bakau (Scylla serrata) merupakan salah satu komoditas ikan air laut yang mendapat perhatian besar bagi usaha perikanan, harga jual yang selalu naik dan teknologi budidaya yang sudah berkembang. In this study, we report a buckler crab, Cryptopodia angulata, for the first time from Kasimedu fishing harbor, Chennai, Southeast coast of India. This crab occurs only, rarely, in Indian coastal waters. This is the first report from Chennai coastal waters. External characteristics were examined and are illustrated.

A survey was conducted to know the present status of naturally occurring seaweed flora and their utilization in Bangladesh by interviews of scientific officers of MFTS (Marine Fisheries and Technology Station, Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute, Cox’s Bazar), NGO officials associated with seaweed research project, local seaweed food products manufacturer, seaweed collectors and Mog or Rakhyine tribal community of Cox’s Bazar and St. Martin Island. Rotifer Brachionus rotundiformis merupakan pakan alami utama yang dipergunakan dalam perbenihan ikan-ikan laut. Produksi rotifer pada percobaan ini dilakukan dalam wadah kecil (0,5 m3) dengan padat penebaran awal 100-150 ekor/mL, diberikan fitoplankton Nannochloropsis oculata kepadatan tinggi (1,0-2,0x108 sel/mL) didalam dan di luar ruangan.  Oksigen murni dialirkan ke dalam bak-bak budidaya rotifer dengan laju 0,05-0,1 L/menit sedangkan penghitungan kepadatan fitoplankton, rotifer, dan pemeriksaan kualitas air dilakukan setiap hari. The present study was conducted at a commercial hatchery with the objective to evaluate the effects of egg weight and storage period on embryonic mortality (early, mid and late) during incubation of fertile eggs from Cobb broiler breeder strain during 4 production phases(pre-peak; 25-28, peak; 29-36, post-peak; 37-52 and terminal; 53-56 th weeks of age), categorized into 3 egg weights (small, medium and large subjected to change in each production phase) and maintained at 3 different storage periods (1, 4- and 7-days)and replicated 6 times. The culture of shellfish larvae under controlled hatchery conditions requires not only the development of specific culture techniques, but in most cases also the production and use of Bio enriched feeds as feed for the developing larvae in hatchery. The present study describes the preparation techniques currently employed for the culture of the Bio enriched feeds commonly used in larvae culture, as well as their application potential in terms of their nutritional properties and feeding methods. The article is divided into different sections according to the Bio enriched feeds used in hatchery, namely technique, preparations of bio enriched feed and nutritional value.

This research aimed to report two species of Brachyuran crabs that were found rarely from Indonesian waters. The latest report was more than one hundred years ago, and the study from Indonesia before was not so clear, both information about specimens and location details. We conducted our study in Southern Aru Island and Malacca Strait using trawl during the cruise research which was held by the Research Institute for Marine Fisheries, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries. Our findings were Izanami reticulata, New Record (family Matutidae) from Southern Aru Island, and Cryptopodia fornicata (family Parthenopidae) from Malacca Strait. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kandungan vitamin C rotifer, artemia dan larva rajungan setelah diperkaya dengan vitamin C dan menganalisis pemberian vitamin C terhadap sintasan, rasio RNA/DNA, kecepatan metamorfosis dan ketahanan stres larva rajungan stadia zoea. Serta menentukan dosis optimum vitamin C yang menghasilkan sintasan, rasio RNA/DNA, ke-cepatan metamorfosis dan ketahanan stres larva rajungan stadia zoea yang terbaik. This research was conducted in October to December 2016 at fish seed center Pengujan, Bintan, Riau Island. The purpose of research was to determine the best concentration of Extrajoss for improving the rate of population growth of B. plicatilis in media culture. Complete Random Design (CRD) was applied as a method at this study with 4 taraf treatments that is P0 media consists of 300 mg chicken manure, 7.5 mg TSP, 6 mg Urea, 0.45 g yeast Bread/3 liters of water (control), then for further media added P1 (0.30 g Extrajoss), P2 (0.40 g Extrajoss), and P3 (0.50 g Extrajoss) with 3 replicates and observation 2 times day. The culture of shellfish larvae under controlled hatchery conditions requires not only the development of specific culture techniques, but in most cases also the production and use of Bio enriched feeds as feed for the developing larvae in hatchery. The present study describes the preparation techniques currently employed for the culture of the Bio enriched feeds commonly used in larvae culture, as well as their application potential in terms of their nutritional properties and feeding methods. The article is divided into different sections according to the Bio enriched feeds used in hatchery, namely technique, preparations of bio enriched feed and nutritional value.

Crustacean larvae have the characteristics of living as carnivorous organisms. This has an impact on the length of gut evacuation time which affects the feeding pattern of the larvae. The feeding strategy of mud crab larvae is modulated by the length of gut evacuation time. Another factor that can be subject to modulation is the frequency of feeding. Ikan bandeng (Chanos chanos) merupakan komoditas perikanan air payau yang sangat potensial untuk dikembangkan dalam budidaya. Produksi larva bandeng dipengaruhi oleh jenis pakan alami rotifer. Peningkatan nutrisi rotifer dapat dilakukan melalui pengkayaan (enrichment) dengan vitamin B1, B6, B12 dan C. Kombinasi vitamin ini diharapkan mampu meningkatkan pertumbuhan dan kelulushidupan larva. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji pengaruh pengkayaan B. rotundiformis dengan dosis vitamin (B1, B6, B12 dan C) yang berbeda terhadap kelulushidupan dan pertumbuhan larva. Rotifer (Brachionus plicatilis) merupakan salah satu jenis makanan alami yang digunakan dalam pemeliharaan larva kepiting bakau. Untuk itu telah dilakukan pemeliharaan larva kepiting bakau (Scala serrata) dengan penggunaan tipe rotifer yang berbeda.

Fertile eggs were obtained from a commercial fl ock of Ross broiler breeders (51 weeks old) and candled to determine the presence of hairline or star cracks. Eggs (5400 total) were assigned in equal numbers to 3 treatments (hairline-cracked, star-cracked, and normal eggs) and incubated for 21 days. Upon hatching, 10 chicks per treatment were euthanized, and organ weights were measured. Compared with normal eggs, the presence of egg shell cracks (regardless of type) resulted in higher egg weight loss at the time of transfer; a decrease in hatchability, hatch of fertile eggs, chick length, yolk-free body mass (P < 0.01), and percentage of hatchling breast and liver weight (P < 0.05); and an increase in the contamination rate of eggs (P < 0.01). Weight loss in hairline-cracked eggs was signifi cantly higher than in star-cracked eggs (P < 0.001). Percentage hatchability and body weight of chicks hatched from star-cracked eggs was higher than in chicks from hairline-cracked eggs (P < 0.001). Crack type did not have a signifi cant eff ect on chick length and body weight uniformity; however, the Pasgar score as a quality indicator was higher in chicks hatched from star-cracked eggs than those from hairline-cracked eggs (P < 0.05). Th ere were no signifi cant diff erences among treatments in terms of heart and small intestine weight. Th e contamination rate of hairline-cracked eggs was higher than that of star-cracked (P < 0.01). A higher incidence of embryonic mortality was observed during days 1-8 of incubation for shell-cracked eggs (P < 0.001). Total embryonic mortality in hairline-cracked, star-cracked, and normal eggs was 51.1%, 36.6%, and 13.3%, respectively. Th is study showed that egg shell cracks reduced incubation parameters and chick quality. Th e negative eff ects of hairline cracks were more pronounced than those of star cracks.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas penggunaan jenis garam dan salinitas yang berbeda terhadap daya tetas artemia salina, menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) Faktorial dengan 7 taraf perlakuan dan 3 kali ulangan. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Februari 2022 di Laboratorium Basah, Fakultas Perikanan Universitas Dharmawangsa. Parameter yang di amati antara lain : nilai Hatching Persentase (HP)  menunjukkan nilai daya tetas tetas tertinggi terdapat pada perlakuan penetasan artemia dengan menggunakan garam dolpin di salinitas 30 ppt yaitu sebesar 59,43 %. This study aims to compare the rearing of purple mub crab, Scylla tranquebarica larvae with different feeding regimes. This study consisted of two treatments, namely Treatment A (rearing of mud crab larvae without artificial feed) and Treatment B (rearing of mub crab larvae with artificial feed starting at Zoea 3 to the crablet stage) each with three replications. The rearing tanks used from Zoea 1 to Megalopa (M) stages were cylindrical fiberglass tanks with 0.65 m in the diameter and 200-250 liter volume. Each tank was stocked with newly hatched larvae at a density of 50 larvae L −1. The results showed that Treatment A had better survival rate (from Zoea 1 to crablet) and crablet production namely 0.51% and 138 respectively compared with Treatment B namely 0.27% and 121 respectively but there was no significant difference (P > 0.05). Although the survival rate on Treatment B was lower but the percentage of megalopa stage appearance and the Larval Stage Index value on 18-20 days after hatching of Treatment B were higher than Treatment A. Based on the results of this present study, rearing of Zoea 3 to Zoea 5 and M is still sufficient by using only enriched Artemia nauplii (with High Unsaturated Fatty Acid (HUFA) as much as 80 ppm). For the rearing of larval Zoea 5 and M to crablet, besides fed with Artemia nauplii can also be fed with additional feed in the form of fresh feed (shredded shrimp meat) or artificial feed that used in shrimp post larval rearing.

Nutrient content of natural food is one of the main factors for determining the successful of marine fish fry production.  EPA ( Eicosapentaenoic Acid ) and DHA ( Docosahexaenoic Acid ) are two essential fatty acids for marine fish larvae.   Low levels of EPA and DHA content in natural food is major problem in marine fish larval production.  Rotifers fed by Nannochloropsis contained EPA about 0.94%-1.46% and DHA was limited, while in Artemia was 0.27%-0.39% EPA and DHA was undetected (Suprayudi et al ., 2002a).  Feeding on supplemented Artemia with EPA 28G and DHA 70G in ratio of 1:1 could not significantly improved its survival rate and larval development time, while growth by length and carapas width at first crab were higher than  that of fed with unenriched Artemia . Environmental heat stress is one of the most challenging conditions which have adverse effect on the poultry industry. Broiler chickens are sensitive to heat stress mainly due to not having sweat glands. The current study was conducted to observe the effect of heat stress on performance of Ross-308 broiler chickens. 1600 Ross-308 broiler day old chicks were obtained from local hatchery and randomly divided into two groups, the heat stress group A (n=800) and heat free group B (n=800). Group A was reared in high temperature (101 0 F) whereas group B was reared in ideal temperature. To evaluate the physiological stress indicators blood glucose levels and total blood cell count were checked on day 21 and 28. The parameters observed were; feed intake, body weight gain, feed conversion ratio, water intake and carcass yield. The results indicated that feed intake, weight gain, water intake, feed conversion ratio and carcass yield were significantly higher in group B compared to group A. It was concluded that heat stress has deleterious effect over the performance of broiler Ross-308 chicken.

Permasalahan utama budidaya ikan rainbow (Melanotaenia parva) adalah sintasan larva yang masih rendah terutama pada saat terjadi peralihan makan dari cadangan kuning telur (endogenous) ke pakan eksternal (eksogenous). Pakan awal larva rainbow berupa pakan alami (plankton). Untuk menyediakan plankton dapat dilakukan melalui pemupukan kotoran ayam. Tujuan penelitian adalah penyediaan pakan alami untuk meningkatkan sintasan dan pertumbuhan larva ikan rainbow kurumoi melalui pemupukan kotoran ayam dengan dosis yang berbeda di akuarium. Akuarium yang digunakan berukuran 50 cm x 50 cm x 40 cm sebanyak 15 buah dengan volume air 40 L. The growth of larvae showed that F3 treatment was higher than F1 and F2 on the sixth day with an increase in the absolute value of growth of 0.12044 mm compared to F1 of 0.05531 mm and F2 of 0.03253 mm.

The availability of female adult mature will continuously support mud crab hatchery to produce the best quality larvae. Bray et al., (1990b) proposed that zoea length can be used as an index of larval quality. Larval quality is dependent on the physiological condition related to the growth and survival rate of several larval development stages (Racotta et al., 2003). The mortality in all development stages was due to the high sensitivity of larvae to environmental changes. Two aquariums and sterilized water were used in all rearing processes and larvae of Scylla Serrata fed once a day. It was fed by rotifer (Branchionus plicatilis) and Artemia sp on the third and fifth days. The results showed that the eye was a distinguishing characteristic between zoea I and zoea II. Development of zoea I range from about 0 (zero) to fourth days and zoea II about fifth to seventh days. Observation of growth for six days indicates an increase significantly on the fourth to sixth days. The survival rate of Scylla Serrata larvae without food holds three days out. Otherwise, larvae that were fed every day hold seven days out.
