Abstract

This paper proposes a new reconstruction of the socio-economic practices among the Kedah natives by using a cultural anthropology perspective on ethnoastronomy. This reconstruction attempts to link the local constellations to specific ecological adaptations, and from there, to certain economic lifestyles. Field interviews have been conducted since May 2015 to April 2018 among practitioners in several economic activities to gather the aforementioned folk knowledge. We conclude by saying that the traditional Kedahans living in different local ecological systems practised differing astronomical knowledge to suit their particular economic lifestyles.
