In the mid-20th century during the Cold War and racial segregation in the United States, showrunner Gene Roddenberry created a science fiction series called Star Trek. In addition to technological concepts ahead of its time, social relations not yet understood by its spectators are presented in this work. In this context, two characters stand out, Lieutenant Nyota Uhura, a black woman of African descent, and Chief Engineer Geordi La Forge, a blind black man. The series includes in its notion of normality groups marginalized by society, contrasting with the concept of exotic assimilated by the spectators.

Cultural, a field here outlined in quick brushstrokes, opening, however, to future research. Developing sensitivity and respect for the other's gaze, which is always fundamental, is an exercise that can begin with an interdisciplinary reading, attentive to the plural richness of the meanings of a text, verbal or non-verbal.

ABSTRACT The aim of this article is to show how proposals for field research methodologies in astronomy in cultures were developed, with the purpose of recording contributions from participants and traditional experts, during workshops that took place in the middle of the Tiquié River (Rio Negro Bay-Brazilian Amazonia region), between 2005 and 2007. Representatives of ethnical groups such as Tukáno, Desâna and Tuyúka, among others, participated in these workshops. We described in this work some astronomical constellations according to Tukano at Escola Yupuri, where the workshops took place. Starting from arrangements of stars, organized outside Western conventions, this ethnical group, as well as others from the same region, relates its own constellations to environmental variations such as different levels of the river, flowering, fruiting and other events such as its ritual practices. These complex correlations were summarized in the representation of what was called a circular calendar. This object/tool combine in the same panorama, the sky and the closest environment, described according to a socially shared construction. The Tukáno group and other ethnic groups in this region have similar representations. Our investigation also was developed with the purpose of giving visibility to the representations of a set of indigenous astronomical constellations, interconnected each other and with the life of the societies from the northwestern Amazonian region, starting from a Tukáno reference.

Both were connected among some relevant scientists and astronomers for Brazilian and international History of Sciences. The last one eclipse became Albert Einstein a famous scientist and a notorious public person known all around the world. Both eclipses were important steps to recognition and affirmative action to Brazil toward a detached position as a young republican country around the World. The production of journalists, scientists, advertisings in newspapers and a book chapter reveals many different narratives levels about correlations betweennatural phenomena and society. Part of these narratives aren´t explicit. There are a complex mosaic of expectations, perceptions and behaviors that appears in the analyzed texts.

Even though these topics could be explained in a very close way but they are almost never presented together. Developed from a practical experience in a proposal of Physics and Mathematics integrated subject within a Distance Learning Course offered by Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC-SP), it is an alternative to teach Mechanics, Mathematics and can be integrated with other subjects in humanities areas as History, Geography and Social Sciences.

Although it is a theme endowed with an institutionalization promoted by the International Astronomical Union (IAU), by legitimizing a complete set of constellations since 1930, it is worth exploring nuances that have been little developed in the academic field. Thus, it seems to be important to revisit the concept of constellation, especially if we consider the studies of Cultural Astronomy developed mainly in the Amazon Northwestern region.

Relying on participant observation and ethnomathematics sources, on practical sky observation activities, and on classical sources about constellations observed in Brazil's Amazon region, a sky mapping project was undertaken with Tukano, Desana and Tuyuka indigenous communities. At the Yupuri School, an astronomical calendar was created that integrates specific environmental and climate events based on descriptions of many constellations from different indigenous communities. This investigation found that in the northwest, Amazonian Indians mark rain periods, drought, planting and harvesting by the set and rise of major constellations. To complement these findings, non-Indian materials were also analyzed mainly from the researchers of the early 20 th century who worked in the northwestern state of Amazonas.

The constructions of d ifferent circular calendar versions used to educational purposes were in the midst of our acade mic research. A selected group of indigenous people known as Tukano, who live around the Tiquié River, have a calendar which correlates animal’s behavior and plants as we ll as environmental issues within groups of stars and constellations near the sunset. Otherwise there are relations between History of Sciences and Astronomy in Cultures becau se anthropologists and ethnographers visited this area late in nineteenth century and in the early twenty century, producing remarkable documents about this topic. This kind of investigation became possible because we developed comparisons...

This period is especially relevant in the development of astronomical culture in Portugal and Spain, since this was the age of the great overseas explorations, when astronomical navigation became of fundamental importance. The astronomical culture of that time involved ancient and new concepts, and old revisited narratives about the cosmos and its influence in many facets of the sublunary world. The present research describes the influence and transformation of the classical and medieval astronomical culture in the specific context of sixteenth century Iberian texts. There were different publics involved in the production and study of those works, such as navigators, priests, physicians, farmers, astrologers and scholars. Those different aspects of astronomical and astrological knowledge were not distinct,...
