The paper discusses the creation and significance of the Senster, an innovative computer-based artwork developed by Edward Ihnatowicz in collaboration with engineers. Set in the Evoluon exhibition, the Senster utilizes advanced technology including electro-hydraulic systems and a digital computer to interact with its environment. The work exemplifies the fusion of art and science, emphasizing the potential for collaborative creativity in the development of new artistic forms.

This book is about intelligence, embodied intelligence-and it is about a paradigm shift, a shift from a computational view of intelligence, thinking and cognition, to one that takes the complete organism-brain, body and environment-into account. As we know from Thomas Kuhn's famous book, "The structure of scientific revolutions", paradigm shifts do not occur instantaneously, but the process is a long and tedious one that happens at different levels and it takes a lot of time before a new consensus can be reached. There have been a large number of books and publications arguing, essentially from a conceptual, philosophical, or a biological stance, why computation is in many ways inappropriate to explain the behavior of systems in the real world and that completely novel approaches are needed. 25 years after the appearance of Rodney Brooks' seminal article with the innocuous title "A robust layered control system for a mobile robot," in a sense the manifesto for the famous 'subsumption architecture,' which, in the fields of Artificial Intelligence and robotics, marked the starting point of the "embodied turn," there is increasing consensus that embodied intelligence is the new paradigm, not only in AI, but in psychology, philosophy, and the neurosciences.

In spring of 2010, architecture and engineering students at the University of Pennsylvania were teamed together to create artistic mechatronic robotic devices. The context for their creations was Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This became a joint effort between professors from Mechanical Engineering and Architecture and a director from a professional theater troupe instructing a group of students to develop a performance performed by the Pig Iron Theatre Troupe at the Annenberg Center called The Robot Etudes. Whereas robots have been used in theater before and artistic directors have instructed technicians to develop special effects robots, developing robotic elements specifically for theater with a diverse set of creative innovators is new. This paper focuses on the process by which the play was formed and the successes and struggles in forming a cooperative experiment between three very different disciplines.

Typically, visits to modern art galleries or museums are characterized as visual experiences supported by textbased information describing the works of art. Our goal was to investigate the potential of providing a fuller and richer experience while viewing visual art by appealing to the senses beyond sight. We designed SensArt, a multisensory experience whereby someone viewing a painting received a translation of the art through a headset with music and a belt programmed with vibration patterns and changes in temperature.

Sonic Constructs is an interactive sound installation that uses Lego Mindstorms™ semi-automata musical robots. In Sonic Constructs, two robotic devices move and interact while performing trajectories that produce sound as a by-product of the movement itself. Direction, speed, acceleration, position, scratching and collision characterise an environment for kinetic and acoustic participation. This paper investigates a critical context relating to the use of robotics in the digital arts.

The digital revolution that started with Industry 3.0 developed with Industry 4.0, allowing artificial intelligence and robot technologies to take place in many areas. The rapid development of technology and the corresponding change in consumer needs have forced many sectors to adapt to changing conditions. The dynamics of the fourth industrial revolution accelerated this change and started to play an important role in the preferences of both businesses and consumers. Artificial intelligence and robot technologies, which are among these dynamics, are both indispensable for people's daily lives and are expressed as technological innovations that many businesses apply. Examples of robotic applications, which have started to be seen in service industries after industrial industries, have started to be seen in tourism services. In addition to the Hen-na Hotel, the first and only example in the world, which provides service entirely with robots in Japan, the examples of businesses in which human employees and robots take place are increasing day by day.
