Developed countries are currently undergoing demographic changes which entail the rising number of senior citizens. This particular demographic group is prone to suffering from numerous chronic diseases. The link between old age and chronic disease e.g. is illustrated by USA population reference bureau1, according to which up to 19 million people need to provide day-today primary assistance to their elderly family members. There are already a number of technologies in use, including digital devices, smart sensors and intelligent applications that assist elderly people with their everyday needs in their own homes. Developing a strategy for an integrated technological solution would resolve many issues faced by elderly patients and would lead to improving their quality of life, health, and safety. The objectives of COST Action CA 16226, Indoor living improvement: Smart Habitat for the Elderly (Sheld-on), Working Group 3 was: to explore the specific needs of elderly on ph...

Raising Motivation to Achieve Collaboration in Online Courses

Proposed chapter will focus on how online tutor must act to make good collaboration with its students. What kind of barriers are going to be on the way, what is the connection between motivation and learning in e-learning. Conversation in which people do not see each other is rarely long-lasting conversation. Usually they loose interest to subject very quickly. The same principle is applied to on-line course. The teacher (tutor in e-learning) needs to take all the responsibility and all the time should try to motivate the students. The experience gave us the result. It is collective education.

An aging population, a multitude of public, private and informal actors, together with a myriad of e-health systems and technologies create numerous hurdles to offering efficient and cost-effective care. In order to tackle these issues, collaboration on multiple levels is needed between actors from healthcare and social care services - from private doctors to public hospitals and from home carers to emergency centers for the elderly. This, so-called Integrated e-care has to be structured efficiently, so the actors are aware of their specific roles in the value chain, and, most significantly, able to effectively share information between them. Serving content from the cloud allows access anywhere at any time. In order to validate the implementation of the model and its impact as well as its market replication potential in other countries, all pilots will run for more than a year, foll...

WWW.HR tends to be a thematic portal, providing regional information specifically concerning Croatia. WWW. HR consists of two services: general info on Croatia and a directory of the Croatian Web sites. Besides a touch-sensitive map of the Republic of Croatia, general info on Croatia provides “Short info about Croatia”, covering national history, tourism, economy, nature, geography, politics, arts, culture, sport and Internet resources. A directory of Croatian Web sites is hierarchically organized in 15 categories and 344 subcategories. The content of the directory is fully searchable by keyword and/or by Boolean expression. Sites are added based on submissions from webmasters. All newly submitted sites are reviewed by the administrator and added to the directory. This article presents WWW.HR as a national Web portal, retrospecting its past and reviewing its current st...

A Security Assessment Framework for e-Health: A Croatian Perspective
E-health aims to improve health of citizens, productivity and efficiency in healthcare delivery, ... more E-health aims to improve health of citizens, productivity and efficiency in healthcare delivery, and the social and economic value of health by using information and communication technologies. It encompasses various interoperability approaches and mechanisms among health services, products and processes combined with organizational change in healthcare systems, covering interaction between patients and health-service providers, institution-to-institution transmission of data, or peer-to-peer communication between patients and/or health professionals. Since inappropriate use or misuse of medical information can lead to undesirable outcomes, medicine and health are considered as very sensitive areas in terms of human life and work. Therefore, security polices, practices and procedures must be in place as well as utilization of cyber security and defense technologies, which help to protect e-health systems against attacks, detect abnormal activities and to have proven contingency plan...
