
José R . Torres-Ramos
José R. Torres-Ramos is a Lecturer in Ethnomusicology at The University of Texas Austin where he is musical director and administrator of Mariachi Paredes de Tejastitlán and also teaches courses in ethnomusicology. Dr. Torres holds a PhD in ethnomusicology from the University of North Texas and his research is based in Latin America with a focus on Mexico modern mariachi tradition. He was awarded a Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Award (DDRA) Fellowship in 2017 funding fieldwork in Mexico City and Guadalajara. Dr. Torres' scholarship has been presented and published in both the United States and Mexico. His forthcoming chapter, "Timbral Habitus," contributed to the edited volume, Keywords in Music Theory for Anti-Racist Scholars, will be published by Duke University Press.
