Historically, Reading Research has always been a broad and multidisciplinary research field, moti... more Historically, Reading Research has always been a broad and multidisciplinary research field, motivated by the complexity of the act of reading. Based on a review of the literature, the aim of this paper is to provide a current overview of Reading Research, starting from the study of new factors that have influenced the growth of this field. To this end, a bibliometric analysis was carried out, focusing on four main points: areas of knowledge; the most prolific authors; the contrast between Reading Research and Digital Reading Research; and the main topic areas being studied. The methodology used involves an extensive collection of data originating from different sources, data analyses, the calculation of efficiency rates and the solutions used to the address disparity in the amount and type of data found. This study confirms that the onset of the use of technological devices for reading stimulated the growth of Reading Research. Since 2009, when the use of the Kindle e-reader (Amazon) stabilized, preceding the launch of the iPad tablet (Apple) in 2010, digital reading played an important role in Reading Research, attracting new topics and research prospects.

By means of systematic mapping, international published papers and research on digital skills training were critically evaluated, generating a process that helps us to recognize information about health professionals and the type of educational technology used in training. With this in mind, we employed the systematic mapping method using the WoS and Scopus databases between 2015 and 2019 in English and Spanish, specifically focused on research articles. The five competencies of the European Framework of Digital Competence were used to analyze the articles, and the works were classified according to the educational technology used. Inclusion, exclusion, and quality criteria were applied. Two hundred and forty-eight articles were selected for the study. On the one hand, its importance in the fields of Social Science and Humanities tends to move towards other forms of representation, basically research articles, and on the other hand, its visibility is increasingly conditioned by factors inherent in the digital environment. On the basis of these assumptions, a study on the context of scientific monographs in the systems of assessment and institutional accreditation of research has been conducted, taking as references the research requirements for the accreditation of the different faculty figures and those for obtaining "the six-year research periods".

Se analiza del caso de J.K Rowling como ejemplo de migración desde su nicho original, la literatura infantil y juvenil, a la literatura de adultos, estudiando los indicadores de visibilidad como ediciones de su obra, presencia en las listas de más vendidos, presencia web, y aparición en bases de datos nacionales e internacionales. Se discute la viabilidad de salir del nicho de mercado amparado por estructuras editoriales y comunicativas consolidadas, empleando además el expediente del anonimato.

On the one hand, in the area of Social Sciences and Humanities relevance in quantitative terms has been undermined, giving prominence to other document types such as research papers published in academic journals. Moreover, their visibility and accessibility have been conditioned by a number of factors that form an intrinsic part of the digital medium itself. Based on these two fundamental premises, this paper aims to analyze only the situation of scholarly monographs in institutional systems for research assessment and tenure, from the perspective of the various proposed requirements regarding accreditation for the different figures of university teaching staff and the request for Spanish recognition of six-year research periods.

Resumen: El sector editorial de las publicaciones electrónicas ha experimentado una ralentización... more Resumen: El sector editorial de las publicaciones electrónicas ha experimentado una ralentización en su crecimiento en los dos últimos años, aunque uno de sus segmentos no ha seguido el ritmo del resto. Se trata del relativo a los audiolibros, que ha tenido un extraordinario desarrollo en todos los países. No se trata de un género nuevo, pues su antigüedad se remonta a los comienzos del siglo XX, pero en lo digital ha sido ahora cuando han explotado el máximo de sus posibilidades, optimizando sus prestaciones para contextos diversos, que tienen que ver con todo tipo de actividades del quehacer cotidiano. La investigación sobre los audiolibros plantea algunos puntos críticos que se analizan en la contribución, como la relación entre comprensión y audición, las diferencias entre los entornos auditivos e impresos, los sistemas de control de calidad en relación con su presentación, y los sistemas de difusión. El análisis de estas cuestiones entraña igualmente el de la disyuntiva leerescuchar como parámetros de medición desde el punto de vista de la consideración de este nuevo género como integrante del concepto de lectura.

Este artículo analiza la distancia temporal entre la disponibilidad online de los artículos y su ... more Este artículo analiza la distancia temporal entre la disponibilidad online de los artículos y su publicación en papel y cómo este lapso de tiempo afecta a los indicadores bibliométricos Factor de Impacto (JIF) e Índice de Inmediatez. Esta investigación examinó 18.526 artículos, la colección completa de artículos y revisiones publicadas por un conjunto de 61 revistas de Urología y Nefrología en 2013 y 2014. Los resultados hallados sugieren que la Publicación Electrónica Anticipada (AOP) acelera la citación de artículos, afectando a los valores de JIF e Índice de Inmediatez. Respecto a los valores de JIF, la comparación entre revistas con AOP y sin esta característica mostró diferencias estadísticamente significativas (P=0,001, U test Mann-Whitney). La correlación de Spearman entre JIF y la mediana del intervalo de tiempo publicación online-papel no resultó ser estadísticamente significativa. La investigación sobre la lectura durante décadas ha centrado su atención en los procesos de alfa... more La investigación sobre la lectura durante décadas ha centrado su atención en los procesos de alfabetización, en la formación del lector, en las dificultades para el desarrollo de competencias lectoras y en los patrones de comportamiento de los lectores desde un punto de vista estadístico. La aparición de dispositivos de lectura electrónica, y de contenidos digitales sobre todo a finales del siglo XX, ha generado una corriente de investigación orientada a examinar las circunstancias en las que está produciendo la migración de un sistema analógico a otro digital y la incidencia de la tecnología en algunas de las funciones asociadas con la práctica lectora, como la concentración, la memorización y la interpretación. En este artículo se traza un panorama del desarrollo de algunas de estas investigaciones, estableciendo algunos de los elementos críticos para la consolidación de las mismas.

Following a bibliographical review of recommendation systems, the performance of a number of book recommendation systems is tested. The systems tested are grouped according to whether recommendations are done by specialists, are based on social networking or use more complex statistical stylometry to help each reader find the reading materials best suited to them. This article analyses the difference in timing between the online availability of articles and th... more This article analyses the difference in timing between the online availability of articles and their corresponding print publication and how it affects two bibliometric indicators: Journal Impact Factor (JIF) and Immediacy Index. This research examined 18,526 articles, the complete collection of articles and reviews published by a set of 61 journals on Urology and Nephrology in 2013 and 2014. The findings suggest that Advance Online Publication (AOP) accelerates the citation of articles and affects the JIF and Immediacy Index values. Regarding the JIF values, the comparison between journals with or without AOP showed statistically significant differences (P=0.001, Mann-Whitney U test). The Spearman's correlation between the JIF and the median online-to-print publication delay was not statistically significant. As to the Immediacy Index, a significant Spearman's correlation (rs=0.280, P=0.029) was found regarding the median online-to-print publication delays for journals published in 2014, although no statistically significant correlation was found for those published in 2013. Most journals examined (n=52 out of 61) published their articles in AOP. The analysis also showed different publisher practices: eight journals did not include the online posting dates in the full-text and nine journals published articles showing two different online posting dates-the date provided on the journal website and another provided by Elsevier's Science Direct. These practices suggest the need for transparency and standardization of the AOP dates of scientific articles for calculating bibliometric indicators for journals.

Resumen: Desde hace años, los grandes grupos de edición vienen enarbolando, una estrategia de cre... more Resumen: Desde hace años, los grandes grupos de edición vienen enarbolando, una estrategia de crecimiento basada en su expansión territorial y lingüística. Para ello han recurrido a la absorción de todo tipo de empresas, vinculadas o no con su área principal de negocio, y a la eliminación de las divisiones menos rentables económicamente. La desaparición de Circulo de Lectores, perteneciente al Grupo Planeta, se inscribe en estas estrategias. Víctima de la falta de adaptación al nuevo contexto digital, adolecía de un sistema basado en un modelo obsoleto, pensado para el entorno papel y altamente efectivo en el mismo, pero incompatible con las nuevas prácticas de una sociedad profundamente digitalizada en los consumos culturales. También su vertiente editorial, plasmada en el sello Galaxia Gutenberg, y en la excelencia de colecciones como la de Obras Completas, se ha visto afectada por estos movimientos, alejados de lo que Giulio Einaudi consideraba como la Edición sí, esto es, aquella que buscaba la excelencia, la calidad y la innovación, y no necesariamente la rentabilidad. En este artículo se hace un balance de los fundamentos de Circulo de Lectores y un análisis de las circunstancias de su desaparición al hilo de las estrategias desarrolladas por los grandes grupos de edición. considered as the Yes edition: this is, the one that sought excellence, quality and innovation, and not necessaritly profitability. las que se aborde, pero existe un consenso generalizado sobre sus
bondades y beneficios para la población en general y para el
desarrollo de la cultura en particular. Los cambios tecnológicos
que ha experimentado en la última década, que involucran a todos
los actores de su cadena de valor, han añadido funcionalidades,
prestaciones y modalidades que amplían considerablemente el elenco
de los contenidos disponibles y sus formas de consumo. Se puede

hablar de una lectura “a la intemperie” tanto para designar estas
nuevas prácticas como para denominar la interpretación que se hace
de las mismas según las herramientas de medición disponibles. El
problema se plantea al analizar el paso del acto de leer a la
afirmación de “Yo he leído”. Y esto es particularmente importante
en el caso de los libros, asumidos en el inconsciente colectivo
como la expresión más depurada de la práctica lectora, pues dada
su condición cronodegradable, en términos de memoria, las
declaraciones sobre lo leído se pueden referir a obras
inexistentes, desde el punto de vista de su peso y de la intensidad
del recuerdo, como han puesto de manifiesto numerosas experiencias
e investigaciones. A pesar de todo, leer libros constituye una
movilización de competencias imprescindibles, sobre todo en el
ámbito universitario, en el que el libro está sufriendo un
desplazamiento inapelable en beneficio de otros géneros más breves
y accesibles cognitivamente, como los artículos científicos. Por
todo ello han de activarse en la universidad los procedimientos
necesarios para recuperar el papel de prescripción y recomendación
inherente a las prácticas docentes, sobre todo en las Humanidades
y las Ciencias Sociales, con objeto de concitar el interés y el
uso por parte de los alumnos de un género relegado a un
voluntarismo cada vez menos consistente.
