Examination of Little Beauty through the posthuman lens problematises the hierarchical animal-human relationship as one of ownership or control of the human over the non-human exposing the shifting, fluid nature of the power balance on which it is grounded; thus, it creates the space for the consideration of the child-adult relationship in corresponding dynamic terms questioning perceptions of the child as perpetually disempowered against the almighty, normative adult authority.

The method is based on the process of close observation and analysis of an art work by the students with the objective of deriving conclusions that will alter biased or distorted views on serious cultural issues. The results of the application of the process are encouraging and suggest that the aesthetic experience of understanding and interpreting an art work can affect students' ideas and cultural beliefs.

Macaulay created Mosque as a response to the 9/11 attacks and its complex political and socio cultural global impact. Through the deployment of the mosque as a conceptual framework the notions of mobility, displacement and belonging are addressed as intersecting factors forging communal and individual identities.

It is argued that the examination of the complex relationship between the child and the adult character in the text, as well as the child reader and the adult author in a theoretical framework, which provides the space for the renegotiation of the notion of power and its properties, effectively serves a twofold purpose: it delineates the complications in the representation of childhood subjectivity in the picture book, and, simultaneously, illuminates the theoretical issue to which Beauvais The Mighty Child refers as "the inherent problem of adult 'power' in children's literature" (4).
