This article examined self-concept, social network and study habit as predictors of students' educational success using some selected post-primary schools in Lagos metropolis, Nigeria, as a case study. Questionnaires were used to collect information from 150 students in five secondary schools in the state. Three hypotheses were formulated and tested using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Statistics. The results revealed a significant connection between social network and students' self-concept, based on the fact that r-cal (0.206) was greater than the r-crit value (0.120) @ 0.05 level of significance. Further to that, it was found that students' study habits showed a significant correlation with both students' academic performance and their self-concept using the value of r-cal (0.184) to be significantly greater than r-crit (0.024) at 0.05 level of significance and 148 degree of freedom. Lastly, the study revealed a significant relationship between students' study habits and their academic performance judging from the value of r-cal (0.139) that was greater than r-crit (0.089) at 0.05 level of significance and 148 degree of freedom. This article examined the menace of political godfatherism, one of the major internal factors hindering the advancement of the democratization process and development of Nigeria in order to validate Rostow thesis. The study employed the descriptive approach andtherefore collected its data from secondary sources. Moreover, the study examined the two opposing models on the subject of development and also discussed the problem of godfatherism and its implications on the democratization process and developmentof Nigeria. The paper suggests love, patriotism, hard work, sacrifice, commitment, condemnation of evil and celebration of good, not only for the elite class, but also for the entire citizenry. These could be used to stop the escalation of political godfatherism in order to enthrone true the democracy that is needed for national unity and development. In actualizing this, this paper concluded that the elite class needs to be saturated or dyed with positive attributes, which hinge on national unity and consciousness, development-oriented mentality, public-spirit and patriotism. These are essential to galvanize the available resources and generate the necessary sentiments for the progress and well-being of Nigerians.

This study examined the socio-economic status of work-study students in Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria. The study used survey method (questionnaire) to collect information from 120 respondents. Findings of the study showed that a percentage change in parental income and occupation significantly increased the likelihood of student participation in work and study programme by 0.453 and 0.367 percentages. The above result is found significant at 5 percent (P<0.05) and 1 percent level of significance (P<0.001) respectively. The study concluded that a significant support of parental income and occupation played a significant role in student individual choices of whether to enroll for a work-study initiative or otherwise.

This studycomparedthe salary structure of the administrative personnel in some selected Federal, State andPrivate universities, southwest Nigeria with the aim of finding the average. The study employed qualitative data retrieved from archival documents. Analysis of research questions showed a disparity in the average salary structure of the administrative personnel between the public and the private universities. Finally, the study discussed the Sociological and Psychological implications of the discovered disparity on the administrative personnel.

This article explored the contributions of women tonational development in Nigeria with a focus on late Prof. Dora Akunyili. The study employed qualitative data collected from archival documents and internet to examine research on national development, the life history of late Prof. Dora Akunyili and her contributions to national development. The study concluded thatProfessor Dora Akunyili's performance has proven that women should never be taken for granted when it comes to handling the mantle of leadership. Therefore, this study suggested that Nigerian women be strongly encouraged to develop their potentials for greater contributions to the development of Nigeria.

This article employed secondary data to critically examine policies, mission and vision of a private mission university in line with fundamental human rights and the safety of students. The high rate of violence and criminal activities across Nigeria seems to have given credence to such policies in as much as such policies emphasize students" safety and development. Therefore, academic freedom and students" fundamental human rights should be exercise within the policies designed to ensure students safety and development. In the past and in recent times, studies have explored several areas of student safety and development, most especially in developed nations where priority is placed on student affairs administration, but such efforts are yet to be examined in the literature emanating from Nigeria despite several criticism against the policies of the university. Contrary to the belief of many critics, violation of fundamental human rights does not exist in the university under study; instead, stringent policies and procedures attached to the actualization or implementation of such policies are in existence to safeguard students" safety and development. The study argued that the failure of some students to comply with the procedures attached to these policies seem to have created a scenario of violation which critics contend with. Thus, a stern look at these policies and their applicability to students" matters would have been better understood and appreciated instead of condemnation. However, the paper argued that implementation of policies should be exercised with caution, largely because disciplinary power is a sensitive issue and those exercising it must do so with thoughtfulness and in absolute good faith and in accordance with the rule of law.

Two studies investigated the mediating roles of self-motivated behavior (self-efficacy, selfinterest and learning behavior) in accounting for the influence of intergroup member contact for intergroup harmony. In study 1, seventy-six (males = 55.26%; females = 44.74%) freshmen students, age ranged between 16 and 25, (M = 22.54, SD = 4.45) years voluntarily participated. Cross-sectional design with regression analysis revealed that intergroup contact significantly predicted intergroup harmony. In study 2, one hundred and two students (males = 56.2%); females = 43.8%) freshmen (100 level) of ethnic origin (Igbo = 45.6%; Hausa/Fulani = 20.4%; Yoruba = 24.5% & others = 9.5%); religious orientations (Christians = 62%; Muslim = 38%) age ranged between 17 and 26, (M = 22.15, SD = 2.35) years, voluntarily participated. Crosssectional design which adopted regression analysis showed significant positive indirect effect of intergroup member contact on intergroup harmony through self-efficacy, self-interest and learning behaviour. The outcome of the study suggested for the first time a framework for understanding the roles of self-motivated behavior in intergroup member contact's effect for intergroup harmony. The study results highlighted the need to consider self-motivated behavior in developing social interventions for peace building and intergroup harmony in multi-ethnic nation.

The problem of immorality among the youth population is of universal consequence. The youth population refers to adolescents, teenagers, young adults and working-class population. Adolescents are still in the formative years and could be positively influenced towards moral uprightness. Consequently, several authors have attempted to uncover factors associated with immorality and the possible interventions among the youth. Some of the proposed interventions include parental instructions, sermonizing, inclusion of moral instructions in the school curriculum, adverts on media networks, punishment for wrong doing, rewards for uprightness and outstanding virtues among others. This study was conducted to examine the influence of female genital mutilation on women sexual activities in Oke-Ona community, Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun-State, South-West Geopolitical Zone of Nigeria with respect to: sexual satisfaction, sexual desire and virginal penetration experience. In order to achieve its aim, the study raised three hypotheses, each on sexual satisfaction, sexual desire and virginal penetration experience. These hypotheses were tested through t-test statistical method via the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) 23rd version. Results showed no positive interaction between genital mutilation and sexual satisfaction [t (109) = .560, P&gt;.05]. Recently, SIWES has attracted studies from scholars in higher educational systems in Nigeria due to the deficiency or lack of proficiency of many graduates, mostly in the natural sciences. This shows that the scheme has not been effective in ensuring impartation of practical knowledge on students. Consequently, many employers of labour view this challenge as one of the causes of unemployment, an obstacle to achieving corporate goals and a serious obstacle to national development. Although SIWES stakeholders have been primarily indicted for its dysfunction, most especially, the Government, and the management of tertiary institutions, but none of such studies have compared SIWES in developed countries with a developing society like Nigeria with the aim of identifying the missing gap that needs to be filled to ensure students proficiency at work after graduation. Being a descriptive article, the present study used data from secondary sources to analyze and synthesize SIWES in four purposefully selected countries. By synthesizing SIWES activities in these countries, the study identifies factors responsible for the dysfunction of SIWES in Nigeria. These include poor quality of education from the elementary school to higher educational systems; short duration apportioned to SIWES in the curriculum of tertiary institutions; insufficient industries and closure of some of the few existing ones due to unfavourable environmental factors; inadequate equipment / facilities in existing few industries for effective practical training and poor leadership of SIWES stakeholders. The study concluded that SIWES in Nigeria could improve if these flaws could be effectively addressed.

The concept of social change could be considered an ever-constant phenomenon in human society. This is because virtually nothing has ever remained static since the advent of man and his society. Thus, issues surrounding social change have occupied the mind of scholars for many centuries. This study was carried out to appraise SIWES in sixteen (16) tertiary institutions in Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria using descriptive method. Among other things, it investigated the percentage of SIWES unit in tertiary institutions in the state that has: (i) a structure; (ii) budget; (iii) coordinators’ tenure of office; and (v) a succession plan for coordinators. The study engaged a purposive sampling technique to select one participant from each institution and used descriptive statistics to analyze the data. These include frequency distribution, percentage and ranking. This study was an update on gender differences, personality characteristics and academic performance carried out among students at a private University in Ogun State, Nigeria. The present study intends to validate the findings of the previous study with further review of literature on the subject matter. The result of the study showed that male and female students are different with regards to academic performance but not in personality traits. The current work investigated the relationship of such beliefs with personality traits in the southeast geopolitical zone of the country [specifically Igbo land].
