The sample consisted of 284 students for the diagnostic purpose of demonstrating the existence of the problem under study. The research adopted a non-experimental design and a quantitative approach, processing the collected data using SPSS V26 software. The results revealed that 66.90% of students failed to develop reading comprehension. Similarly, difficulties were identified in text production, specifically in coherence (59.8%, 170) and spelling (59%, 169). Given this situation, a motivational strategies model was designed based on the foundations, principles, and techniques that guide its implementation, relying on the commitment and effort of teachers and the management team.

CONCEPTUAL METAPHOR IN CHILDREN'S LANGUAGE: A VIEW FROM COGNITIVE LINGUISTICS, 2025
This article analyzes the use of conceptual metaphor in children's language from the perspective ... more This article analyzes the use of conceptual metaphor in children's language from the perspective of cognitive linguistics. Based on the postulates of Lakoff and Johnson (1980), it is argued that children not only repeat metaphors from the adult environment but also construct their own metaphorical structures to understand the world. Through observations in preschool classrooms and recordings of children's spontaneous speech, metaphorical expressions related to emotions, the body, space, and social relationships are identified. Phrases such as "the sun is sad" or "my tummy is fighting" reveal that children project concrete experiences (body, movement, objects) onto abstract domains (emotions, time, internal states). These metaphors are not errors, but powerful cognitive tools for organizing experience. The study adopts a qualitative approach, with linguistic analysis of children's discourse corpora. It is concluded that conceptual metaphor is part of early semantic development, reinforcing both linguistic creativity and meaning construction. It is recommended that teachers recognize the expressive and cognitive value of these metaphors to promote language education that is sensitive to children's mental processes.

INTERCULTURAL AND COMMUNICATIVE COMPETENCE: A REFLECTION FROM THE TEACHING OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES, 2025

Drawing on the theoretical contributions of authors such as Byram, Meyer, Liddicoat, Crozet, and others, it examines the affective, behavioral, and cognitive components that comprise this competence. It clarifies the distinction between multiculturalism, pluriculturalism, and interculturality. It also clarifies that the concepts of otherness and alterity are not synonymous. Furthermore, it analyzes pedagogical experiences that exemplify their application in real-life contexts, highlighting the transformative role of the classroom as a space for cultural encounter. The work is based on a solid conceptual review and proposes pedagogical pathways that link language learning with the development of critical and bilingual intercultural citizens. We are invited to think of foreign language teaching not only as a matter of grammar or linguistics, but as an opportunity to develop intercultural citizens, people capable of understanding, respecting, and engaging in dialogue with others, from the perspective of difference (otherness). Because today, more than ever, we need to teach languages based on empathy, curiosity, and human encounter. This research is based on a simple but profound premise: that teaching a language is also teaching how to live together. Intercultural competence is not only about understanding others, but also about transforming ourselves (otherness) to better coexist in diversity. It is a process of continuous learning, dialogue, and openness.

POLITICAL WAREHOUSES AND DIGITAL WARFARE IN COLOMBIA: A COMPARATIVE READING OF RIGHT-WING AND LEFT-WING COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES, 2025

Through a comparative reading, it examines the communicative strategies used by both ideological spectrums in digital environments, with a particular focus on coordinated uses of social media to influence public opinion, control discourse, and deepen polarization. The study adopts a qualitative approach based on content and digital discourse analysis, using emblematic cases during presidential campaigns and moments of political crisis. The findings reveal common patterns such as adversary stigmatization, emotional manipulation, and viral dissemination of polarizing narratives, though with distinct variations in structure, actors, and symbolic repertoires. The study shows how political bodegas function as technopolitical devices that negatively impact democratic deliberation, eroding the public sphere and reducing critical citizen participation to binary confrontation. The article calls for a rethinking of the role of digital platforms in political communication and the ethical challenges posed by these practices

Gender, Growth and Local Enterprise A Mixed Methods Case Study of Women Entrepreneurs in Barranquilla, 2025

Drawing on three community-based case studies—(1) the Emprender Mujer training program supported by Fundación Grupo Argos, (2) the 16,000+ business registrations by women reported by the Barranquilla Chamber of Commerce, and (3) the transformation of informal recyclers into formal entrepreneurs—this research investigates the gender-specific challenges, economic contributions, and empowerment pathways experienced by women entrepreneurs.Quantitative data is analyzed to trace business growth indicators such as formal registration, sectoral distribution, and participation in support networks, while qualitative data from semi-structured interviews offers insights into women's motivations, resilience strategies, and perceptions of opportunity and constraint. This dual lens enables a contextualized understanding of how local policies, gender norms, and access to capital intersect to shape entrepreneurial trajectories in a Caribbean Colombian city.Findings suggest that while women entrepreneurs in Barranquilla are making substantial contributions to local economic development, they continue to face structural barriers related to gendered labor divisions, limited access to financial services, and underrepresentation in high-growth sectors. Nonetheless, programs like Emprender Mujer and community-based support initiatives have emerged as critical catalysts for empowerment and sustainable enterprise. This research contributes to the growing literature on gender and entrepreneurship in the Global South, emphasizing the value of mixed methods in capturing the complexity of women’s experiences in urban informal-to-formal transitions.

Let's learn with Salsa, 2022
This article analyzes the intersection of music, culture, and language through the pedagogical pr... more This article analyzes the intersection of music, culture, and language through the pedagogical project "Aprendamos con Salsa," implemented in the Colombian Caribbean as an innovative strategy for foreign language teaching. From a critical intercultural perspective, it examines how incorporating salsa songs in English classes enhances not only students' linguistic development but also their cultural identity, sense of belonging, and connection to local memory and knowledge. Using a qualitative and interpretive methodology, the study documents classroom experiences in three schools in Barranquilla, selecting emblematic songs such as "Pedro Navaja," "La rebelión," and "Plástico" based on their narrative strength, linguistic value, and symbolic meaning. The findings reveal a redefinition of the body as a learning tool, the use of orality as a didactic resource, and the reinforcement of nontraditional pedagogical practices grounded in rhythm, dialogue, and critical interpretation. The discussion positions salsa as a cultural archive, a form of popular pedagogy, and a decolonial resource to challenge the monocultural curriculum. In conclusion, teaching languages from within-from Caribbean cultural referencesemerges as a political act of cognitive justice and cultural affirmation in Latin American classrooms.

Educational transformation, decoloniality, peace and communication skills, 2025

Hence the importance of employing emancipatory pedagogical capacities to build just societies. In this regard, the purpose of this research is to analyze the challenges and opportunities of decolonial education as a way of dismantling the collective boundaries imposed by neocolonial interests. This is a bibliographical and documentary study, constructed from a deductive rationalist approach. The results show that racist and classist alienations that impede the capacity for social deliberation are being addressed; thus, skills are developed that provoke critical thinking capable of establishing equitable relationships. Liberating instruction prepares for peaceful coexistence by teaching tolerance, respect, and listening—distinctive competencies for intercultural relations. In conclusion, the importance of subordinating, in teaching, the communicative possibilities offered by new information technologies to the recognition of dignity as the foundation of human rights is emphasized.Keywords: ;;; ;

artificial intelligence-AI, as a technological tool that has been breaking
into learning constructs at all levels of education. Qualitative-
hermeneutical discourse was used to review the existing literature
on the impact of this technology on educational processes.
With the emergence of the algorithmization of computing based on
artificial intelligence, applications have been created at an accelerated
pace to automatically generate knowledge constructs that have
transformed learning didactics in school. This technological disruption
represents great contributions that benefit learning constructs,
since it optimizes the educational-research process, however, its
applicability contradicts constructivist didactics-pedagogical, since
the challenge to overcome in its use is the ethical risk, which generates
the potential bias of smart tools that can deconstruct the
learning process.

Reflections on identity and culture in language teaching, 1998
This article reflects on the relationship between language, culture, and identity in the teaching... more This article reflects on the relationship between language, culture, and identity in the teaching and learning of foreign languages, highlighting the need to move beyond traditional approaches focused exclusively on linguistic competence. A critical and intercultural perspective is proposed that recognizes learners as cultural and political subjects, capable of constructing their own meanings in relation to other languages and cultures. Based on pedagogical experiences contextualized in the Colombian Caribbean, concrete possibilities for bilingual intercultural teaching based on decoloniality and the dialogue of knowledge are evident.

It proposes integrating intercultural and decolonial concepts to revalue local cultures, promoting an emancipatory and transformative approach. The struggles from the South against linguistic colonialism and the transcendence that local cultures should have. Through a hermeneutic methodology, the educational reality is critically interpreted to propose a linguistic code that promotes decolonial thinking, recognizing the local context as a key space for pedagogical and social transformation.

The analysis covers his proposal for a philosophy of intercultural alterity, which seeks to recognize and value the other as an active subject in the construction of more just societies, and his critique of neoliberalism as a system that perpetuates inequalities and cultural exclusion. It also examines his contribution to decolonial epistemologies, highlighting how his work challenges the colonial structures still present in the region. The article addresses his biographical and academic career, highlighting his role as founder of the journal Utopía y Praxis Latinoamericana and as coordinator of emblematic projects such as "Interculturalidad y Razón Epistémica en América Latina." The impact of his work on education and the training of rural teachers in intercultural pedagogies is also analyzed. Finally, critical reflections on the strengths and limitations of his thought are presented, highlighting its relevance in the contemporary context. This article seeks to position Márquez Fernández as an essential reference for understanding and transforming the cultural, social and political dynamics of Latin America from a decolonial philosophical perspective.EVISTA DE FILOSOFIA LATINOAMERICANA 37

Transdisciplinarity, by allowing dialogue between various areas of knowledge, helps students establish meaningful connections between concepts and their practical application in the real world, promoting an education focused on active and social learning. This approach also makes students protagonists of their educational process, since learning becomes a journey of self-discovery and participation, where they can see the direct impact of their knowledge on the solution of complex problems and on their personal development. Furthermore, it analyzes how curricular innovation based on transdisciplinarity facilitates adaptation to the changes and challenges of the 21st century, providing students with the necessary tools to face a globalized and diverse environment. It also examines how transdisciplinarity allows for a more holistic and creative education, where students become active agents of their learning by connecting knowledge from various disciplines.

toda a região andina.
