SIAe "Simposio IberoAmericano de Arqueología Espacial" pretende ser un encuentro internacional de investigadoras/es que desarrollen sus trabajos arqueológicos dentro del ámbito latinoamericano. SIAe quiere constituirse como un entorno de difusión y foro de discusión cuyo argumento transversal sea el análisis espacial en Arqueología.

Un bref rappel de l'histoire de la recherche sur les sols et structures d'habitat du Paléolithique supérieur en récapitule, dans ses grandes lignes, les principaux aspects matériels, méthodologiques et théoriques. À partir de là, nous proposons un rapide « état de la question » sur cet axe spécifique de l'étude du passé, et nous présentons ensuite les résultats préliminaires d'une recherche sur d'évidentes habitations dans la Galerie Inférieure de La Garma. Il s'agit d'un ensemble remarquable de sols d'habitat en grotte du Magdalénien moyen : de grandes dimensions, d'une richesse extraordinaire, exceptionnellement bien conservé et non recouvert par un dépôt sédimentaire, présentant des structures construites associées à des représentations rupestres de la même période. Les potentialités informatives du site sont remarquables, et le projet de recherche mis en oeuvre commence déjà à offrir quelques résultats, à la diffusion desquels cet article constitue une modeste contribution.

Documentation and publication of palaeolithic objects such as lithic artefacts, bone tools or mobile art is done since decades mainly by drawings. These drawings are an indispensable part of scientific research and methodology. Teaching drawing techniques is even integrated into the educational program at university level. Although creating a drawing is very time consuming and requires training, until now it has not been replaced by photography. Taking a picture of a palaeolithic object is obviously even more difficult than to make a drawing. To visualize all scientific relevant features of an object in just one shot is not possible. The cost/performance ratio for drawings is therefore better than for photography. Photos are used mainly to present objects to a broad public. Within the scientific community drawings are the most frequent medium of information transfer.

El profesor Ignacio Barandiarán ha desempeñado un papel muy relevante en el desarrollo académico de la Prehistoria de Cantabria, una región con una gran tradición investigadora, pero que, hasta su llegada a Santander como Catedrático de Arqueología en 1978, carecía de centros de docencia e investigación en esta disciplina. Aunque su estancia entre nosotros fue breve, la puesta en marcha del Departamento de Prehistoria de la Universidad de Cantabria, la constitución de una importante biblioteca, y el lanzamiento de trabajos de campo en la región contribuyeron de forma decisiva a la consolidación de estos estudios. Por ello, aunque la mayor parte de nosotros no hemos sido discípulos directos del Prof. Barandiarán, podemos enorgullecernos de ser en cierta manera herederos de su legado académico.

The Lower Gallery at La Garma is a cave whose entrance became blocked near the end of the Late Glacial period, sealing off hundreds of square metres of Middle Magdalenian habitation floors. Among the different portable artefacts found on these floors are one very characteristic type: calcite plaquettes decorated with engravings representing animals such as bison and deer, anatomical parts (heads, above all), and an anthropomorph. They also contain non-figurative designs, in the form of different kinds of grids of intercrossing lines. To date, seventeen engraved plaquettes have been found in Zone IV of the cave, and the perspectives for future research are excellent, if we consider that the floors in the Lower Gallery contain thousands of potential surfaces for portable art. The outstanding state of conservation of these occupation floors, which have remained intact since their formation about 16,500 years ago, allows us to study these Magdalenian objects in their archaeological context. Although the study of Zone IV has not been completed yet, the available evidence suggests that these plaquettes, together with other portable art objects made from organic materials, were produced, used and abandoned in the cave, finally being added to the thick carpet of remains covering the habitation floors.

Barnacles of the species Pollicipes pollicipes are crustaceans that nowadays live on wave-beaten rocky substrates in the intertidal and low-shore zones on the coasts of Atlantic Europe and North Africa. At the present time, the exploitation of this species is profitable, especially in northern Spain where this seafood is highly valued, as well as expensive. However, the gathering of this resource, which is carried out manually by the percebeiros or ''goose barnacle fishers'' entails great risks.

Nowadays LED lighting devices are incorporated to most important lighting companies. Advantages of these systems are very well known: timelife, size, compact, variation of output flux,... One of the most applied characteristic is the possibility to obtain with the same system different colors. It is possible without complex and expensive systems to obtain a tunable spectral light. In cultural heritage lighting system it will be a very important characteristic since it will make possible to obtain an optimized spectral source. Art works lighting is a very complex problem where needs for display and conservation are in conflict. Electromagnetic radiation is an agent which causes changes in material composition of painting and therefore degradation of them. In the other hand displaying art works in good conditions requires visible radiation onto the surface of paintings. This idea is applied in the problem which arise when illuminanting Paleolithic cave paintings. In this work the authors have applied a methodology which permits optimize the color reproduction and to reduce the damage of paintings.
