This article deals with the first attempts of creating and the development of regional organisati... more This article deals with the first attempts of creating and the development of regional organisations in Southeast Asia. It will be argued that the specific “Asian nationalism” combined with the colonial heritage lies in the foundation of the successful regional organisation in this region. The same values and perceptions are also “responsible” for the gradual evolvement and spread of the ideas of regionalism not only in the sub-region of Southeast Asia but also in the broader region of East Asia. The article will try to give some theoretical background of regionalism and nationalism before focusing on the practical implementation of those principles.

Коронасян през 1946 г. след мистериозното убийство на неговия брат крал Ананда Махидол, точно 70 години по-късно Рама ІХ остава завинаги легенда в тайландската история. Има личности, които бележат историята на своя народ и на света, и колкото и противоречия да има около живота и дейността на краля, не може да се отрече, че крал Бумибол е един от тях. Въпреки дългото управление на крал Бумибол неговият живот-личен и на политическата сцена, остава скрит не само за света, но и за тайския народ. Единствените "проблясъци" от живота на тайската монархия са предоставяни внимателно от тайската пропагандна машина за специални поводи

Но в КНР пропагандата е също толкова важна, колкото и полицейските части. С умелото използване на образи и изрази, които дълбоко са залегнали в мисленето и в езика на китайския народ, ККП успява да спечели подкрепата на народа през първите години на установяване на комунистическия режим 1 .

If one looks at the history of the country, a question that ultimately must come to the fore is w... more If one looks at the history of the country, a question that ultimately must come to the fore is why is the monarchy so cherished and revered? After all, in 1932 the monarchy was on the decline. Some members of the People's Party that deposed the absolute monarchy wanted to do away with the institution altogether. Despite this the monarchy survives and the King is still respected by the Thai. The current king Bhumibol Adulyadej (known also as Rama IX) is the world's longest-serving current monarch and the longest-reigning monarch in Thai history (over 68 years). He has divine legitimating in the eyes of his subjects and this allows him to play an important role in the contemporary political life of Thailand. The paper will, therefore, explore the ascendance of the monarch's role in Thailand from 1932 onwards and his participation in several significant events in the country's history (the coups d'état, the "War on drugs", the transition towards democracy, etc.).
