Alejandro García-Sanjuán

Teaching Medieval History at the University of Huelva (Spain). My main field of work is al-Andalus (Arab and Islamic Iberia) and my scholarship deals with a range of topics, including pious endowments (awqaf), jihad and legal dhimma status in the Maliki doctrine, the Islamic conquest, and the origins of al-Andalus, the Christian conquest of al-Andalus, and the reception of al-Andalus in modern Spanish culture and scholarship, with a special focus on the influence of Spanish nationalism and the notion of 'Reconquista'.
